Very tedious and frustrating. The puzzles feel like busywork and the ending is completely absurd. Not the best entry in the series.
I enjoyed the atmosphere of the manor and most of the puzzles. However, compared to many of the other Nancy Drew games, the controls were fairly clunky and navigating through any dialogue was slow and difficult. You shouldn't necessarily skip this one, but expect to be a little more patient with the controls.
Just finished, but I think I was following the walkthrough guideline more than 60% of the game... I liked the setting but it was quite difficult for me. Some of the puzzles were a little bit too repetitive and annoying than being interesting.
As someone who's not native English speaker, I completely gave reading all the handwritten fonts in the letters/books. I wish they kept the voice over system from the Secret of the Shadow Ranch.
Love the Nancy Drew games I'm trying to play them all in order and oooooo there is alot. But I have always liked Blackmoor Manor because of the creepy aspect, the funny characters and the calm it brings.

Сюжет прикольный, загадки тоже, в большенстве не сложные, просто надо исследовать всё и со всеми болтать. Есть душноватые, например где алхимические ингридиенты смешивать, у разных химиктов разное кол-во. Или где призраков искать, буквально последнего не мог найти, пришлось в интернете искать. Но в целом топчик!
More challenging than some of the other ones that I've played. The limited space is maddening, but the clues are intricate and there's a lot of information; I took several pages of notes for this playthrough. Also had a scary element as the secret passageways were very dark and the imagery was pretty creepy. Definitely had fun with Blackmoor Manor.
Lots of great puzzles!
As my list of eligible list of games to be played starts to dwindle, my thoughts turned to my as yet unfinished list of Nancy Drew mysteries I bought long ago. The clumsy navigation using arrows or heavy handed swings with the mouse at the screen edges came back to me in force and ultimately became the reason I didn't finish this game after 12 hours of play time. I got to the point where you spend a lot of time stumbling around in the dark and after a couple hours of claustrophobic fun, I decided to call it and make this a permanent member of my Do Not Like folder. I know that the barriers that separate the 00's to the 10's games is significant (playing Thornton Hall now) but that didn't stop me from finishing the Scarlet Hand episode. I just think this particular one was particularly bad.
This game fills much of its run-time with what feels like time-wasters. To complete the came you will need to play a match-3 game twice, a 20 piece jigsaw puzzle, at least 2 games of "Go Fish", and at least 1 game of what is essentially just rolling dice.
More so than previous entries, "Curse of Blackmoor Manor" relies on mazes, timers, and orienteering, something it struggles to communicate with its non-continuous first-person perspective. There is a lot of stumbling around in the dark, trying to remember if exiting a screen turns you around or not.
Many of the puzzles also rely on dialogue triggers to be activated. Even if you intuit the solution, Nancy will not allow you to solve the puzzle until you speak to someone else. The connection between the characters and the puzzles you solve feel arbitrary, more manufactured by the necessity of event flags than the logic of the story itself.
Particularly in the late-game, there are a number of puzzles that do avoid the two flaws above, but which occasionally have some strained logic to them. A minor example from an early puzzle, if you know anything about carnivorous plants that puzzle will be entirely opaque to you.
This is also the buggiest Nancy Drew game I've played. I encountered 2 game-breaking bugs where a critical item was deleted from the inventory, necessitating a restart.
To end on a positive note, story-wise this game was solid. Each of the characters has probable motive and contributes to the air of paranoia pervasive in this game's atmosphere. The reveal at the end was so much fun! Also, the game-overs are perhaps the funniest in the series. Nancy, what did you think would happen if you crawled into that pitcher plant?
In summation, this is a below-average ND game that falls into some of the series' worst habits, only bolstered by a story that its gameplay only serves to interrupt.

No other Nancy Drew game I've played had this many interlocking parts, or such a great sense of connectivity between its puzzles. And these are some of my favorite puzzles in games as a whole, with the exception of the frog puzzle.
Great time, highly recommend, would drop heavy weights on unsuspecting snoops again.
As someone who loves a good mystery/puzzle game this game was right up my alley! The puzzles definitely can be challenging at times but its so rewarding when you finally figure them out. There is also a hint system with the Junior Sleuth gameplay that is a great help but doesn't flat out just give you the answer when you really feel stuck. This was my introduction to the Nancy Drew games and I'm super excited to play more.
This has always been my favorite Nancy Drew from childhood, just replayed with my daughter and it is just as fun as I remember it to be. It has many puzzles and the classic Nancy Drew feel that the originals had. Definitely recommend.

Можно считать это победой. Только тот, кто прошёл Блэкмур без гайда - может считаться мастер детектив игр Нэнси Дрю и заслужить почётное звание "Старший детектив"
I love the magic and alchemy theme in this one! Some of the puzzles are a little tricky and I needed to look up some hints, even on my 3rd play through. It's been a few years since I last played it, okay? Still probably my favourite Nancy Drew game.
There's a surface perception that these Nancy Drew games are for kids, but I'll tell ya, the puzzles aren't for the faint of heart. Get out your notepad and pencil for these games. The puzzles are elaborate and take a long time to find all the elements, figure out what to do, and then execute. I needed the hint generator to get through it (if you don't know already uhs-hints.com is outstanding for giving hints only. This site has been around forever and has most PnC games). Another plus is that many of these games are older and can be played on dinosaur computers. They are well worth the brain tease and a lot of creativity in writing and art are put into them. I've read that the newer ND games aren't so great but this one is one of the oldies.
Curse of Blackmoor Manor is the 11th Nancy Drew adventure game. In this entry, Nancy goes to help the newly married Linda Penvellyn. Since moving into her new husband's house, she's been behaving strangely and has the symptoms of a strange illness, and it's up to Nancy to figure out what's really going on.
The setting and story take a lot of inspiration from gothic horror. Blackmoor Manor has a very strong spooky English mansion aesthetic, and I enjoyed exploring it. The game isn't very scary but there were a couple of moments that made me jump. I enjoyed uncovering the Penvellyn family lore and figuring out what was really behind Linda's illness. There are a couple of strong possible suspects and motives. The ending was genuinely surprising to me, although it wasn't totally satisfying.
The puzzles here are definitely on the more difficult side, and probably the most complicated ones I've played in the series so far. Most of the puzzles were really enjoyable. They were difficult enough that you really had to think about them, but were pretty well-designed, so most of them felt fair. I needed some help from a walkthrough because there are some things that are easy to miss or that get mentioned early on and are easy to forget later. The puzzles get more complicated as the game goes on and some of them were pretty frustrating. Toward the end of the game you need to do a lot of backtracking through areas that are really difficult to navigate, and I got so frustrated with it that in a couple of places I just looked up the answer even if I already knew what to do, just so I wouldn't have to retread all that ground again.
This is the most minigame-heavy of the ones I've played so far, and it was pretty annoying. You have to play through all of the minigames at least once. There are a few of them you have to figure out through trial and error and a couple you have to replay a few times to keep making progress. I really disliked the minigame you have to play the most, because it wasn't much fun and was easy to lose.
During the game, you can order food for Nancy, and there are a couple of things you order which you can use to solve puzzles, one of which is required for the game to progress. Unfortunately, there's a bug where after the first time you order food, you can try to order food again and it just won't show up. If you spend enough time away from Nancy's room, it may show up later, but I never had any luck getting that to happen. Fortunately, I happened to have ordered the item I needed to move the story forward the first time, but there was an optional puzzle I missed out on because I was never able to order the other item I needed.
I was on the fence about whether to recommend this one. I enjoyed the mystery, the spooky aesthetic, and the difficult but clever puzzles. However, the minigames and overly-complicated late-game puzzles were really annoying, and there is a bug that can get you totally stuck. Overall, I would say I do recommend the game if you like tough puzzles and have a lot of patience, but if you get frustrated easily, this might be one to skip. 5/10

ИМХО, но оригинал мне не особо нравится: часто слышно как актёры озвучки зачитывают текст с листа и ставят неправильные ударения (про Глюкозу в русской локализации могу сказать то же самое, но вот остальные актёры стараются и кажутся мне НАМНОГО лучше оригинала).
Не могу после захода в игру просто продолжить её: постоянно надо загружаться, опять же, с русской версией от Нового Диска такого не было. Почему она отсутствует в библиотеке -- мне не ясно.
В остальном могу сказать что это абсолютный шедевр золотого века компании Her Interactive. Весьма жаль, что последние их игры это смесь кривой реализации инди и плохого движка с посредственной графикой. Играйте в старые игры, господа.
It’s quite a pity that there’s no official Russian localization in the library. IMHO, I don’t really like the original version: you can often hear the voice actors reading straight from the script and putting the stress on the wrong syllables. (I can say the same about Glukoza in the Russian localization, but the rest of the actors really put in effort and sound MUCH better to me than the original ones.)
I can’t just continue the game after launching it — I always have to load it again. This issue didn’t exist in the Russian version by Novy Disk. I have no idea why it’s missing in the Steam library.
Otherwise, I can say this is an absolute masterpiece of Her Interactive’s golden age. It’s a real shame that their recent games are a mix of clumsy indie execution and a poor engine with mediocre graphics. Play the old games, ladies and gentlemen.
Bom, o jogo é intrigante. Exige um pouco de paciência para quem não está acostumado. Os puzzles são bem diferentes, abordam vários temas e são condizentes com a história. Não achei o desfecho tão óbvio assim, demorei muito para desconfiar da pessoa certa. O coitado do papagaio é muito chato kkk
Recomendo fortemente a série da Nancy para quem quer sair da mesmice mainstream e botar a cabeça para funcionar com puzzles que fazem sentido.

Game crashed
It's good. The puzzles are complex but not impossible. The game assumes that you're smart and persistent enough to get the premise but doesn't punish you for not immediately understanding. I filled two pages in irl my notebook with clues and solutions to puzzles, which fully paid off. I've never worked harder to keep track of things in a mystery game than this, but the game fully rewards you for putting in the effort. Also the story is actually pretty cool, and the devs even included some pretty intricate smaller character details and lore. My only gripe is the stiff animation, but the older Nancy Drew games are kind of charming in this way.
Did everything in the wrong order, loved the story, what do you MEAN that was the ending (?!?!?!) would submit myself to these trials and horrors again.

One of the best of the Nancy Drew series, in my opinion.
This Masterpiece was made 20 years ago and I am making this review because it deserves more recognition. Curse of Blackmoor Manor is a fun and amazing experience, it is something that can be enjoyed by both children and adults. The atmosphere, the puzzles, and the story was well done. I played it on Senior Detective and I think having no checklist makes the game even more immersive. Being stuck on the game requires you to either just reread your notes and clues or by talking to an NPC, every single puzzle has some sort of clue or basis on how to solve it except maybe for the final one thus making it the most difficult.
Other things worth mentioning:
-The minigames have a bit of randomness involved in it, some are heavily RNG reliant so it's fine if you don't win on your first try.
-I had an instance where essential items can disappear as a bug, redoing where you got them from won't help. Either you reload your last save, or worst case scenario you start from the beginning. Be sure to save your game regularly!
Awesome game, loved it as a kid and love it now. Good scares in it too.

- Здесь действительно довольно ДИНАМИЧНОЕ повествование. Постоянно происходят какие-то события, всё это сопровождается кат-сценами, которые интересно смотреть
- Атмосфера. В целом это присуще каждой игре, но в этой она выкручена на максимум. Бродить по ночному дому/тунелям действительно жутко. Антураж и музыка полностью погружают тебя в "симулятор" хождения по поместью.
- Загадки. Они здесь средней сложности, но при этом каждая сделана супер-логично. Единственное - подсказки к прохождению (молчаливая книга) путали меня, хаха. Не знаю, хорошо это или плохо
- Персонажи. Ну где ты ещё можешь поболтать с попугаем? За остальными персонажами тоже интересно наблюдать
- Сюжет. Это одна из немногих игр про Нэнси, где злодей был действительно замотивированн и не плохо прописан.
Не жалею ни минуты потраченного времени, и надеюсь Her Interactive когда-нибудь смогут приблизиться к такому уровню снова (и вернут управление стрелками, хаха)

Abysmal user experience.
Any time more than about 20 objects are rendered on screen the framerate dips on a system 20 years from the future.
Controls are ass and it's easy to softlock yourself; you may well put as much work into battling the game itself as you do solving the puzzles.
Terrible voice acting for several characters, including Nancy. Plus there's no delay between voicelines so it always sounds like everyone's interrupting each other.
Easily one of the best entries in the Nancy Drew series. The setting is dark and garish and beautiful, and I loved the historical plot. It's one of the darkest games by far, with scary dark hallways, jumpscares and.. hints of animal cruelty and psychological torture??

Nancy Drew: The Curse of Blackmoor Manor really stands out above the rest. Easily in my top 5 favorite HER Nancy Drew games, Blackmoor Manor is one of the spookiest mysteries in the series. An old family lineage, the threat of the Beast of Blackmoor, the looming worry that curses lie around every corner; this game really sets an intriguing scene.
Nancy Drew is in England for this mystery, staying in a centuries old mansion. The mansion alone is wonderful. Deep colors, lots of decor, intricate patterns, and whimsy detailing each room. The dark secret passages are fun and honestly a bit terrifying. They feel larger than the manor itself, winding deep under ground. The characters are well thought out, and the long family history of the manor really makes things feel alive with ancient energy. Even the long-dead ancestors of this family feel tangible and real as Nancy unravels the secrets of the manor. Anyone is a suspect in this installment, and the ending just might shock you!
This game is one of the most difficult games in the series, even on junior level. The lack of a detailed task list and hints can really stump players, particularly younger ones. There are puzzles galore in this installment, each crafted carefully and if you miss reading a book or article, it could prove to be difficult. I think if this game came out a bit later, the newer cell phone and updated journal feature of the later games would really help this one along.
Cons: I absolutely abhor the parrot that is supposed to give you hints in this game. You have to make it snack cakes constantly or it won't talk to you. Sadly, there are clues and puzzles that rely on this birds expertise. It's a clever addition to the story, but the voice drives me batty! Likewise, I really hated having to constantly play games with Jane to get glow sticks to explore the tunnels. The "Jane destroyed all the flashlights so you have to use glow sticks" excuse is weak. It is mundane and monotonous. Especially since it is the same game you are required to play over and over again despite Jane having a trunk of assorted games.
In conclusion, this game really feels like a labor of love in a way some of the other titles just don't stand up against. I will come back to play this one again. Make sure to bring your own pen and paper to take lots of detailed notes to help you solve this case!

Awesome classic game. Love the Nancy Drew Games and have owned them all at one point or another. Grew up with them. 100% recommend for ND fans both new and returning for the 100th time. Always a fun game to play through.
This is my fourth or fifth Nancy game, and my least favorite. The story was super interesting but ended up being unfulfilling. Things go unanswered. There was hardly a point to the entire game. I recommend only playing this for the puzzles. For god's sake, chose Junior Detective so you get a checklist!!

Super nostalgic -- lore was fun, most of the puzzles were difficult but doable. Final "villain" a bit underwhelming.
One of the best puzzle games franchises ever made, and this one specifically is like a top 3 entry in the entire series.
Yeah it's old, yeah it LOOKS like a PC game that'd be on a CD and yeah it originally was, but dude the puzzles are good the pacing is good the character moments and narrative are good and its age is charming and adds to it imo.
The Nancy Drew games are some of the most peak things ever and this is the perfect one to start with, ATMOSPHERIC games too, the tunnels in 'secret of the old clock' are absolutely terrifying and these games can get scary.

If you've never played a Nancy Drew game, don't. They're not good games. There are good moments, but they are very frustrating and don't make a lot of sense. If you have nostalgia glasses, go for it.
A mix of Myst like puzzle and detective work. This is the first Nancy Drew game I've played and so far I love it. Puzzles are great and have involved finding secrets hidden in books, symbols and sounds in the house and interviewing people to find the answers.
Nothing beats getting the right combination on a lock puzzle and watching the static scene you were looking at overlay an FMV video showing a secret hatch open with a new clue or key inside!
I see a lot people talk about how they don't make good myst likes or point and click adventures anymore but never hear Nancy Drew brought up in the conversation. It looks like they have been making these for years. There are tons and they are still making them and from what I can tell they are all great. I'll for sure be playing more of them after this.
I currently haven't finished the game yet as I'm stuck trying to figure out what to do with my items and which way I should press buttons on the wall with all the symbols and I consider that a good thing in the best way!

This is peak Nancy Drew. Fun story, good puzzles, and a cool setting.
This is a very puzzle heavy game and is non-linear, so you can do most of the puzzles in whatever order you find them in, until the last three or so. This means there's no clear order of operations and you might feel at a loss of what to do next sometimes. I like the story and visuals though, so it's a favorite, even if it can be tedious.
This was my very first nancy drew game that i ever played and it may have made me have my first rage quit ever but it is still one of my favorites. I recommend it to everyone

pretty fun story and puzzles :) some of them are a little hard to figure out and the mechanics are kinda clunky, but im really enjoying this game
This game is dated and,(though serviceable in most aspects) it shows.
The biggest negative is that the mini-games you are forced to play are so awfully RNG, they feel like they were made by someone who knows what games are, but didn't know why they are fun (there are 2 iterations of go fish because I guess they ran out of ideas). I threw in the towel at they "typing" mini game (you type random letters and numbers scattered across the screen like a horrible version of "whack-a-mole", as opposed to having text displayed in a line, so your eyes are constantly parsing the screen to lock onto the next character to type before they disappear).
There are also only 2 songs.
The puzzles themselves are mostly fine otherwise, but unless you're an expert typist, do yourself a favor and play on Junior mode.

this is the fourth nancy drew game i purchase and complete as an adult, and it's by far the least fun. the setting is beautiful and the story could be cool, but a lot of puzzles are really annoying and nonsensical to the point that it just feels like work. i had to look up many things (while in the other games i've only been looking up 1 thing). if you're looking to play one of these games i would strongly recommend that you try another one, this one is more infuriating than fun.
Even though visually it is a bit dated the story and the puzzles are interesting and fun. I enjoy the Nancy Drew Mysteries in general, as games and as books. The stories are the main reason why I like to play these games from time to time. Plus I like the way you are sometimes introduced to different cultures and cities through the games.

В достаточно зрелом возрасте, купив ноутбук, я долго гоняла шарики, пока в июне 2008-го не сообразила сходить в компьютерный магазин и обратиться за советом к продавцу (тогда игры можно было покупать на дисках - как всё изменилось). Продавец выдал мне диск с игрой Сокаля и показал на эти игры, небрежно сказав, что они - про девочку-детектива. Не справившись с Сокалем, я взялась за детские игры, чтобы понять, как вообще играют в квесты. И я пропала.
Самой первой моей игрой после игры в шарики была Тайна Ранчо Теней, а затем - Блэкмур. Когда я доиграла до первого кошмара Нэнси, то дико испугалась и выключила игру. Ночью уже МНЕ приснился кошмар. Утром я с опаской включила игру, чтобы продолжить. Но больше не пугали... Зато я поняла, что игры могут делать очень кинематографичными, и они смогут сильно напугать. (Знаю одну женщину с детьми, которая не смогла играть в Псов-призраков Лунного озера, потому что испугалась в начале.)
Так вот, квесты стали моей любовью на всю жизнь, я написала более 300 прохождений на квесты. К сожалению, время диктует своё и сейчас текстовые версии уже не популярны. Всем подавай запись. Но в связи с отключением Ютьюба в России записи уже не посмотришь. Наверно, будем возвращаться к истокам и читать текст.
По поводу Блэкмура. Мелодия с колокольчиками, которыми пользователей встречал сайт Нового Диска, теперь стоит рингтоном у меня на мобильнике. На бывшем сайте разработчиков лет 10 назад выбирали лучшую игру серии, голосовали обычные игроки со всего мира и выбрали Блэкмур. Согласна с мнением народа.
В этой игре нет ничего лишнего - ни ненужной ненавистной готовки (попугаю можно несколько раз положить червяков и голубику в хлебец и больше не мучиться), ни дурацких заданий. Немного "настольных" игр с компьютером, немного беготни на время. Головоломки еще не навороченные, графика отличная. А музыка лучшая из всех игр (похожая музыка в Сокровище королевской башни, только там играет клавесин, а здесь колокольчики). В оригинальной версии попугай ведет себя прилично и не орет по ночам, а что-то бормочет под нос. Поиск сокровища, старинные портреты в английском поместье. Могут играть не только девочки, но и мальчики, дяденьки и бабушки. В общем, у авторов среди однообразных игр получился маленький шедевр.

I played the game before during a time when computer disks were still a thing. I enjoy how interactive the game is. Plus mystery games are always fun. Its not like those game commercials where its a mystery game but really its just Tetris or a puzzle game. Overall 10/10 would recommend.
Nancy Drew - Curse of Blackmoor Manor take place in a Manor named Blackmoor in England, where Nancy is contacted by Mrs. Petrov to investigate the Manor to discover if Petrov's daughter, Linda, is under some supposed curse wich is turning her into a werewolf and if the curse is real or not.
From all the Nancy games I've played so far, This is my favorite and also the hardest one, as you can tell by my gameplay time : 32 hours and 32 minutes, played on Senior Detective (I'm using an external program wich tracks my playtime more accurately, skipping AFK moments).
The puzzles on this one are well integrated into the story and give a very rewarding sensation once solved; they rely a lot on backtracing to an specific location, but most of the information you need to solve them are with this same location. The typing minigame, despite beating it, I didn't enjoyed it very much. All the other puzzles were very satisfying to solve and this time, I enjoyed the story way more and also the ending had the best plot-twist so far, as the culprit wasn't who I thought it was.
Definitely recemmend this entry for those looking for harder puzzles and a great amount of gameplay, you won't be disappointed.
I really want to like this game, and I do, but if your computer is too modern then you'll likely experience this issue where your computer's mouse is going to lag and flash when attempting the mini-games.
To me, this lag is a game breaking issue where I cannot move past certain games, such as the game Jane asks you to play called polygraphic punch, and thusly I am blocked from continuing on because I cannot win a key item. I've tried looking up solutions, turning down my graphics/monitor display/refresh rate/mouse settings-- pretty much everything besides running the game inside of another virtual machine (which I'm not comfortable doing) but I can't win the mini game because my mouse is just too slow to hit the numbers in time and get a high score. It is strange because my mouse flows pretty normally in conversation and other puzzles, but once I am placed in this timed mini-games and it slows to a crawl.
If anyone knows how to fix this issue, please let me know? Maybe it is me, and I'm the stupid one. I would love to continue on with the game if it wasn't for this mouse flashing/lag issue.
I wish there was an update to fix this.

Curse of Blackmoor Manor is a game with a great story, some good puzzles and entertaining characters. The game does a fantastic job with atmosphere and environment when it comes to the manor. It is one of the more puzzle-heavy ND games, so be aware of that if you're not so interested in puzzles. I definitely recommend it.
This was fun, and I definitely had to take notes while playing. However, the ending was very anticlimactic for me. Still, it was fun and I enjoyed it!
I decided to play these games again as an adult, and this was the only one I truly remember pieces of playing (specifically the frog fountain lol) and it did not disappoint! I played on senior detective and it took me 17 hours over the span of a few days to complete. It likely would have taken me longer had I not googled the occasional hint, so I think it was well worth the $5 for the difficulty of the puzzles, the entertainment, and the nostalgia.
This was really fun! I used a guide a lot for this play through as there were a ton of puzzles, more than usual I think for a Nancy Drew game. I liked how the "villain" was less sinister than most and I have confidence they will be better in the future. The story in this game was very fascinating and I'm happy with the amount of detail that went into it.
Really love this game. I played it when I was around 14 and then found it on here when I was 19 really loved this game as it brought back so many childhood memories.

1 word "AMAZING". All the puzzles were challenging, most of the time it took so much effort & brain cells to figure out the puzzles especially the last one. I would not be able to solve that one without the internet. I love how every now and then, when you solve something it takes you to secret passages within the manor keeping you up and about with the game. I also love the navigating the secret passage ways through the dark, no matter how scary & sometimes frustrating it is.
I also love the story of the game and how the puzzles were woven with the story, It keeps me intrigued & wanted to know more, both about their family history & what really happened to Linda. And I also really like the fact about how the family made all of those puzzles as part of their tradition. All in all I would rate this 10 out of 10.

In my opinion, the best Nancy Drew Game currently. Though challenging the first time you play it, the setting, characters and story are more than enough to keep your attention even when you're stuck. A must play for point and click mystery fans and fans of the Nancy Drew games.

The atmosphere is cool, love the story. But this is probably the hardest ND game I've played so far. Needed to look up puzzle answers so many times. Really fun, just expect a challenge. 7/10
Worthwhile if you've played and enjoyed other Nancy Drew games before!

A note though that since this game is from 2004, it may need a few settings changes to run on current computers. I couldn't get it to run at first and the recommended troubleshooting and fixes suggested in the help section weren't working, so here's the fix that worked for me:
Find the local files once installed, and open the "game" file listed as configuration settings (it'll open as text). Change the window mode value from 0 to 2, and save.
Then go to the other "game" file listed as application and open properties. Go to the compatibility tab and select "reduced colour: 16-bit" and 640x480. It may also need settings for an earlier OS, which are in the same tab.
It should then run as normal - hopefully this works for anyone else having trouble starting it up!
Finally a game in the series with a satisfying amount of content to solve. They had almost used every puzzle type to make this game.
Fun game. Bit rough how Nancy just goes mowing through centuries of hard work like it's nothing; sorry ancestral developments. From an outsider's perspective, I think Nancy is at least somewhat the bad guy in this one, particularly since she doesn't actually do what she was sent for so much as she goes wandering elsewhere. I would have liked it if the puzzles didn't have to be repeated every time to open the passages - setting the dragon feet got old fast - but the different challenges were a lot of fun.
One of my favorite games of all time. It has a bit of spooks, and loads of puzzles, We had it on CD rom years ago, and I bought it again years later on Steam
I've played Nancy Drew games for years and liked this one quite a bit. Just make sure you have a knowledge of mercury and magnets before playing. Or be ready to Google a walk-through for help at some point.
On a real note: immersive and engaging throughout, a great story line. Slightly underwhelming ending.
This is definitely one of the strongest single location games in the series. There's a real sense of depth to the manor and its history that makes this game a delight to dig into and explore. I had to make use of the UHS hints a few times though because I had no idea what my next move was; I wouldn't suggest this as a first game for someone new to the ND series.
Definitely make sure to knock on Mrs. Drake's door late at night a few times... a truly underrated in the fandom second change encounter.
it's great, but it is old so new players will struggle. Even though it is released in 2004, game engine is from 1999 or older.
Puzzles can be cryptic, but it is a lot of fun figuring them out. Don't ruin your experience by using a guide.
This is my fourth game from the franchise and I would say that it's quite good. I understand how this is a fan favorite; the story, the location and the atmosphere are pretty cool and the puzzles as well can be pretty hard at times, they can give good challenge (it can get frustrating tho, sometimes when doing a puzzle and I have to look up for the soluce if I'm stuck and most of the time, I found myself saying "There's no way I would know!") Overall, I like it. And I think this is a very good game to replay again.
But there is a bug in this game. I had to do a second playthrough because of that; in this game, you can order food by calling the cook and it's what I did just for fun, but later on, you would need to call him to solve a puzzle and I ordered again but the food never came for the second time. I did all the other tricks like waiting outside of the room, doing other tasks, goint to the library or calling between 10 AM and 5PM; it didn't work. So,I was stuck and I didn't have other choice to start over again. SO, don't call the cook before you need it!!
