Quite intriguing!
I have almost all of the Nancy games through steam, but I won't be purchasing anymore through here. At one point or another all the games functioned as they should, then steam did an update a while ago and now most of the games I have I can not play, some games just won't simply load or give me an error when they do. I have spent hours and days looking online to try and solve the issues I'm having, to no avail. I'm not sure if others are also having this issue as most of the time others are able to resolve it. So it's not that I'm not recommending the Nancy games. I am simply not recommending purchasing them here on steam from my experience. All the Nancy games are fun, exciting and fulfilling.
Good game.
I remember being so scared of this one as a kid! Now that I've played it on my own I can say it's just got a cool creepy atmosphere, and most of the puzzles I was able to figure out fairly easily. There were a lot of patterns to memorize though, and at certain points I was completely stuck on what to do, but it's a very simple contained story overall that had me enjoying time in my own little cabin <3 Of the Nancy games I've played it's nothing extraordinary but I still had a good time!
My favorite game in the series :)
While this game was still fun overall, and while the whole ND series totally rocks, this was probably my least favorite entry of all that I've played on my journey of going through the chronological list of releases.
Going through the maze multiple times for birds, bugs, crypts, and names felt like mindless repetition, especially after the first time going through it and after learning the routes. The puzzles themselves felt way too easy, almost auto-pilot level. The plot seemed too obvious as soon as you are free to meet all the NPCs.
That being said, it was still fun and the NPCs were as enjoyable as always. It had a very enticing and fairly spooky beginning that just couldn't hold its ground throughout the game.
Underwhelming.
This is my favorite Nancy game
The dogs will lead the way! Ghost Dogs is another one of my comfort games that (for some reason) I especially enjoy playing when I'm ill. The vibes are on point and really transport you to another place and time. I just love the shabby old cabin, the lakeside view, and traipsing through the woods. The soundtrack is whimsical and fits the setting perfectly, plus the mystery is so much fun to uncover and is (in my opinion) one of the most interesting in the Nancy Drew franchise. The story of Mickey Malone and his loyal dogs is utterly unforgettable, and so is this game!
Shortest time I've taken to beat a Nancy Game by far, I also guessed the culprit before the end (second time in a row!) Despite the short length, this is definitely one of the most memorable Nancy games. One of the most interesting story's in the series. I wish they did a bit more with the really cool speakeasy though.
I feel bad for those poor dogs :(
This was the very first Nancy Drew game I ever played. I remember aimlessly wandering the woods of Moon Lake, my small child brain unable to piece together the puzzles or what to do. So, I turned to the biggest Nancy Drew fan other than myself I know: my mother. She helped me through the game, making this the first one I beat (though the first one I beat on my own was Trail of the Twister.)
Because of those memories, this one always will hold a special place in my heart. I also think it's a great introduction to the older Nancy Drew games. The navigation is good, the story isn't too nuts, the puzzles are interesting and a good challenge (still hate the dog map one) AND it has a line I still quote to this day:
"Do you smoke?"
"Uh, only when I'm on fire."
10/10.
Over 20 years later and this game still holds up! This immersive atmosphere and gorgeous soundtrack transported me directly to a tranquil Pennsylvania lakeside. This game is perfect for Spring and has a great mix of snooping, exploring, and puzzles that don't feel overdone. It's on the easier side of the Nancy Drew games, but still provides enough challenge. Very fun!
WHy in God's name did i have to run thru a forest for 2 out of the 3 hours?! Jesus christ how is anyone supposed to figure out this convoluted game?! The other games are fine but this one is cruel for some ODD reason
One of the best Nancy Drew games.
Always a great play, and a great mystery storyline.
absolute recommend. dank ass drew game another big hit for the series. love it
I know a lot of people don't like this one, and I'm definitely biased because of my love for animals and my childhood nostalgia, but this is one of my TOP. FAVORITE GAMES. OF ALL TIME.
(HINT: YOU CAN GO OUTSIDE AT NIGHT AS LONG AS YOU WANT. THE HOWLS ARE PART OF THE OST)
Theres real ranger facts, real tips on how to do things, and how you find out who the suspect is, is COOL. Yeah its confusing and you get lost a LOT in that maze of trees, which I admit makes the game frustrating, but as long as you keep clicking on everything and read up on everything they provide you its actually a really nice game.
This game isn't for people who want action and less reading though. It has OODLES of pages and websites for you to navigate and people to talk to. If you love exploring and reading it's amazing, but I can definitely get why people don't exactly enjoy it as much as the other games since every task is more of a puzzle than it is a adventure, and escaping from the suspect is DIFFICULT if you dont know the sequence to get away from them properly.
i love dogs
Love these older nancy drew games. Filled with fun puzzles and spooky themes
This isn't the worst Nancy Drew game I've played by any means but it's kinda low on my list. I didn't really enjoy this game as much as I would've liked to.
Just to keep in mind, the menus were really laggy for me in this one. I'm not sure if it was an issue with my monitor or something (I played this on a big TV), but there's obviously no settings to fix this so I just had to deal with it. Moving around and talking to people was fine, but saving or doing any puzzles at all was agonizingly slow.
The location would be kinda neat but there's not much to explore. The lakeside cabin you're staying at has a shocking lack of puzzles, not even a bedroom with little puzzle boxes in it. It's pretty much just a single room with one puzzle, an instant-kill rotten floorboard you have to fix, a landline you can use to get hints, and a menu to change the time to morning or night. The woods are blocked off by thick brambles, so the entire outside area is pretty much a straight line with nothing in it. The main location you're spending your time in is the woods behind the Malone house, an extremely annoying and confusing labyrinth that you have to go through multiple times. I disliked this so much and there's not much more to say about it.
There's a lack of puzzles in general in this game: it mostly consists of talking to Ranger Akers, Sally, Redd, or Em and getting chores to do, then passing the time until the next day so you can get more chores. The game consists of picking up items and giving them to people, with 10 or so total puzzles to do and very little gameplay involved aside from clicking. None of them were particularly likable but they were at least memorable to me so I didn't mind that necessarily. I wish the titular Ghost Dogs showed up more frequently, they only scare you once and appear at the end when you learn who's behind everything. I know this is usually the case in Nancy games (you don't see the white horse in Shadow Valley or the orca in Deception Island very often either) but the ghost dogs were literally described as attacking "every other night" so I wish they were more of a recurring obstacle somehow. I also thought the ending was anticlimactic.
All in all, I don't recommend this one, but it's not terrible.
1/5 stars. Puzzles not as interesting, makes you go through a maze multiple times for no real reason, anticlimactic end game, didn't really make me care about any of the characters.
One of the best in the series. Nancy is investigating ghost dogs around a cabin in the woods of PA, where an old-time gangster used to run a speakeasy. Not a lot of characters to interview, and Nancy spends most of her time alone, but there's plenty to do. The puzzles and music are fun, the atmosphere is a light-hearted kind of scary, and overall things move along quickly. It's a great choice for a first game if you've never played one of HeR's ND games before.
Short point and click detective story.
Nothing special but can keep you busy for around 9 hours.
I played this game with my girlfriend. Pretty fun... playing with her. The game has a lot of backtracking. But the final third of the game had some pretty challenging and fun puzzles. Would recommend finding a different Nancy Drew to get into the series. Play it if you like to see cute doggies :D
This game was okay, but I didn't find it very scary or exciting. I would recommend other games above this one.
I've played all the ND games, started around 2002 as a kid. Now in 2025 playing moon lake again, it's still one of the best. This one used to scare me as a kid to play at night. I just played one of the newer ones, in Salem, and did not like it - the older NDs are better stories and make more sense what to do next, in my opinion.
Ghost dogs of moon lake
overall 9/10 and 4 note pages
i remember being terrified of this game as a kid and was the 1st ND game i saw, 6 year old me was not happy getting eaten by dogs lol
im 22 now and tbh i thought it would be more scary don't get me wrong running around the forest at night you start hearing those growls and howls was scary for me but other than that and one sense when the dogs try top get you it was pretty chill. i love the story and the puzzles were so fun. id recommend this game to people 100%!!!!
Lots of twists and turns - forest adventures and danger at every turn. Stick with it.
Surprised I didn't write a review for this one yet. I did a replay a few years back and Ghost Dogs has held up as one of my all time favorite ND games. Maybe it's the nostalgia but I love the quirky characters (Red Knott is such a funny weirdo) and the eerie house, woods, and trails that I always get lost in - taking pictures of those damn birds is STILL the most annoying part of the game! I really enjoyed mostly all the other tasks. Also, I loved the soundtrack - equal parts creepy/spooky and naturey-calm. Scare factor is like a 4/5 because of the things I mentioned above but also those scary night scenes. Overall game play for me is 4.5/5.
soo gas i wish i was nancy drew idc. take me to moon lake take me there
This is one of my go-to games to recommend people as an introduction to Nancy Drew or just looking for a cozy mystery with some spooky themes.
I bought the game on Steam for ease of use because my new comp doesn't have a disk drive so who knows how many hours I've actually spent playing it over and over.
One of the best games of my childhood.
This was one of my favourite ND games as a kid and I still love it!
I bought the game for the nostalgia and it didn't disappoint. It was fun to figure out all the clues and puzzles again years later.
Such a classic nancy game! So much fun, even without nostalgia i enjoy it
I give it 2.5 out of 5 stars. Kinda boring and tedious but a fun story.
hmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm... me tink hard:):):)
do chores for unlikable people simulator
Nancy Drew: Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake is a fun installation in the HER ND series. The navigating feature is a bit clunky and its hard to move Nancy around in some places. The scenery is spooky at night and pretty during the day. Many ND games are about old historic stories wrapped up in a treasure hunt. I've just recently finished Message in a Haunted Mansion, Last Train to Blue Moon Canyon, and Secret of Shadow Ranch. All mysteries revolving around a treasure hunt.
Some of the puzzles, such as the bird pictures and the bug catching seems redundant and made simply to pad the play time. I feel like there was just a little too much back and forth busy work. Most of the other puzzles were fun. I loved the dog motif throughout the game. The secret room you find towards the end of the game is beautifully crafted and a fun homage to the "ghost dogs".
It doesn't have a dedicated journal tab and I spent half the game with my own pen and paper before I realized that Nancy was carrying an electronic diary with her that kept really good hints and sometimes answers. Bess and George, plus the Hardy Boys, gave decent clues that lead you in the right direction if you get stuck as well.
Overall, not one of my favorites in the series, but it is a solid entry and will keep you entertained for a few hours.
Plot was interesting, puzzles were hard on senior.
Loved it so much I play it over and over again!!!
i forgot how satisfying puzzle solving feels
It's dope
One of the best games in the series!
lots of fun, love this one
I'm a huge fan of Nancy Drew computer games. This one was my favorite one when I was a kid. In the last year I got to introduce a friend to the ND games and she chose this one out of my list of easier games to start with. I would say it's a good game for anyone to play who is new to the Nancy Drew games. I will say there is one puzzle that has sort of a red herring and it ends up being some guess-work figuring it out but eventually you get the answer. One thing with the games is to never feel bad to look up a hint online if you need help because ND games can certainly be tricky even for grown-ups and that's one of the things that makes them so rewarding too.
Highly recommend to gamers of any age!
i'm not going to say this was unenjoyable, you just need to have saintly patience and a very good sense of humor at yourself. i got turned around in the forest maze more than anything else and spent probably half an hour trying to get the final puzzle. i was on a call with a friend who loves these games and being able to laugh at the game and bounce theories (not that the plot is hard to guess) made it some of the most fun i've ever had. 4/10 gameplay, 10/10 time playing it. a 12 year old would probably love it.
Really solid Nancy game! Puzzles weren't too grueling, not super long either. Redd is a weirdo.. damn him and his birds. Forest is annoying at first, but by the end you know your way around quickly. Baldo puzzle and roman numerals will haunt my dreams forever. Only struggled bc I'm a big dumb dumb who failed to realize I had a notebook on my little pager thingy.. 'i could really use a nice big hint right now!" became a catchphrase.
All in all, good game!
A close second to, "Treasure in the Royal Tower." Love me a good mystery in the great outdoors.
I got stuck here and there but this is the first Nancy Drew game that I could reach to the end *almost* by myself and I'm actually really proud of that :)
In the end, I did enjoy this game. However the navigation for this one almost drove me over the edge. Puzzles were alright, if not a bit low effort compared to previous games. Characters were odd but in a good way but -5 for all the dogs I couldn't pet.
While a fun little mystery with Nancy Drew, Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake is one of my least favorite ND games. The puzzles are fine, but the mystery isn't that interesting and the characters are fairly bland. Still, it's a fun little adventure that takes a few hours.
Spooky atmosphere, beautiful pre-rendered backgrounds, and a dog-themed mystery to solve! It's a fun time for players who are detectives at heart.
it's a good kind of complicated worth it
This was my first ever Nancy Drew game, and I still love it. The music and atmosphere are relaxing.
Nancy does it again! An absolute masterclass of storytelling and mystery solving. I can-not recommend enough. PLAY THIS GAME!!
Game was spooky and fun but the world of moon lake felt small. The plot was rather lacking considering there was really only three people that you saw in person. Which means there is not alot of mystery to it just more boring plot twists. Its a haunted cabin turned into a treasure hunting story in rural Pennsylvania. How original, I guess? 4/10 and I feel like if some of the puzzles were worse it be a 3.
P.S that puzzle where you organize the files in roman numerals was pain in the you know what! It was not translating the numbers into yeas that was hard it was figuring how jeff wanted you to organize the dang files.
i love this gane
Ghost Dogs is one of my favorite games. It's not puzzle heavy and you get used to the wood maze fairly quickly; I love the ambiance that the location and music sets.
Case solved. The final puzzly is really hard. Recomend game!
My favorite ND game!
This was one of the first nancy drew games I played when I was younger. Played it again recently and it's still one of my favorites. Love the story and puzzles aren't too hard. highly recommend this one!
Great soundtrack, puzzles were challenging. Fun atmosphere and characters
fun
Being the 15th Nancy Drew game that I've played, Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake had many wonderful qualities of some of my favorite Nancy Drew games! Hilarious dialogue between characters, great suspects, somewhat easy to solve clues, and a fun location to explore were all pluses! Not overly scary, but did have some elements of this near the beginning of the game. More chores to do than actual puzzles to solve in this game which for me personally required me to not need any cheats like in all of the other Nancy Drew games I've played. Fun end sequence to figure out and overall a really rewarding game! Would rate it 9/10 only because of needing to walk through the cemetery so much (I'm bad at directions!).
Ностальгія та песики :3
love this game
This game is on the short side, but it is Nancy Drew at her best. I particularly enjoy the atmosphere of this entry in the series. Immerse yourself in the remote woods setting and uncover the secrets of an unassuming Prohibition-era cabin. Just watch out for dogs!
I loved the spooky atmosphere and of course the DOGS!
If you liek intense puzzles and hoky 90's-Y2k poiny and clicky games of nostalgia, you will eat this crap up with a spoon
I can't say I DON'T recommend Ghost Dogs, just that you may only enjoy the game halfway if you're expecting it to be scary or interesting. The game is mostly chores, with an opening scene that is the scariest part of the whole game. I dislike the lack of characters and most of their personalities, but I enjoy the setting. I also enjoy the story and it has SOME good puzzles that aren't fetch quests. It's not my first choice, but give it a go if you want more Nancy and have played all the others.
Plenty of dog animations. 5 stars
No such thing as a bad Nancy game.
Another good entry in the series. I enjoyed the story and the setting a lot. While the puzzles were more basic this time around, they were still fun to solve.
As far as the complains go, the game unfortunately employes some padding to stretch the gameplay. Going through the maze in the woods to get to the cemetary / photograph the birds / collect bugs was easily the worst offender in that regards.
Also, I didn't find the suspects all that interesting this time around. The phone contacts and characters in backstory were more memorable, thankfully.
But those problems aren't a dealbreaker. "Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake" is a strong game and plenty of fun.
7/10
very nostalgic to play, although I did look up some clues online, but I really enjoy the story and spooky vibes
great game me and wife love them all lol getting our collection back
Very fun game, would definitely recommend; while the graphics are a bit slow, the puzzles are fun yet manageable, the plot is engaging, and the characters are interesting. Also, the scenery is lovely -- it feels like the true Pennsylvania forests. Ghost Dogs of Moon Lake truly is one of the most classic Nancy Drew games, and is definitely worth a full playthrough!

This was a really fun game! I heard a lot of people complaining about the forest in the reviews but it wasn't that bad when you used the map. The story was super interesting and I liked the environment of Moon Lake! All of the secret passages were really fun as well! I did guess who the villain was by the end but it was still somewhat of a surprise.
Mentions at least 9 dogs. All good dogs. This game has smoothed some of the movement mechanics and the puzzles no longer seem to rely quite so heavily on the vague chance that you/Nancy takes an elevator three times while spinning in a circle and singing the macarena for...reasons?? I'm playing these games in order to the best of my ability and this is my favorite thus far.
The game is old, has several "fetch quests" and can be hard to navigate.
You may be wondering why I recommended it from that, but the nostalgia goggles have been strapped on and I had the time of my life! I remember playing this game as a kid, and getting super frightened by it haha. Now I've grown up, going back to this game and actually completing the story felt like achieving a childhood goal.
Also, the dogs are cute!!
My hot and gay wife has these games so now I'm going to play through the Nancy Drew series, as someone who missed out on the games as a child and also never read any of the books
GHOST DOGS OF MOON LAKE
The Good
- Buppy
- Each game HeR Interactive makes the games more user-friendly, and this is the first installment with the PDA. This completely removes any ability for you to get stuck in a "what can I possibly do now" situation. All necessary information will show up in there (though there is a downside I'll get to)
- You are actually given a map you can carry with you, another quality of life improvement over previous games
- Characters are few but they're interesting and it's genuinely difficult to tell who the culprit is until you're so late in the game you've basically already solved it
- Pictures of dogs
- Feels good to uncover the secrets in the house bit by bit
- Puzzles are very logical and don't require you to guess what the dev was thinking. There is a downside to this I'll mention later, but those puzzles which allow for the "aha" moment feel good to solve
- There is dogs
- Graphics are easily the best the series has to offer so far. It's still obvious these games are made on a budget but HeR interactive has really improved over the first few titles, not just in the attention to detail in the environments but in the character design and animation, Red Knott in particular.
- buppy
The Bad:
- About the PDA. It seems HeR Interactive is a little too invested in helping us out, because in addition to providing us all the information we need to never get stuck, it also...... uh, just gives you the answers to some of the puzzles. In particular
the combination to the safe is just given to you instead of being a clue for where to look to find the answer
.
- Navigation is better than previous games but still clunky, in particular navigating the woods, which you must do multiple times. I never got lost, courtesy of the map, but the means of getting around is extremely unintuitive. If this were a game with real-time graphics and you just walked through, it would be trivial, but as it stands it's easy to make accidental wrong turns and forget where you are.
- The batteries for your flashlight go out at the worst possible time. This could result in a fun puzzle where you go to get new ones and then learn something useful on the way. Nope. So here's the sequence:
traverse the woods for the tenth time or so, solve the gravestone puzzle, get in the tunnel, the flashlight dies, turn around in the dark, find the lever to open the way back in the dark, traverse the woods in reverse, go to Em's Emporium and ask for batteries, solve the trivial soda cans puzzle which is mindless busywork, return to the house, traverse the woods AGAIN, solve the gravestone puzzle AGAIN, then go through the tunnel
. The entire bit with the dying flashlight could be axed from the game and nothing would be lost.
The Weird:
- A big deal is made about safety and you are given PPE equipment and a life jacket. Far as I can tell, you never use these items ever. I do not know why they are in the game.
- Once you find the culprit's hideout, you can hear the sound of dogs, but you cannot see the dogs. You also cannot pet the dogs. This crime I will forgive just this once.
- Red Knott is concerned about how dry the forest is and easy it is to catch fire, so he, an old man, asks you, a high school girl, if you smoke cigarettes, in the year 2002. It's not a wrong thing to ask older people, who are more likely to smoke cigarettes, but considering Nancy is a millennial, it's more accurate to be concerned she is smoking cannabis. But the game was made for children in the year 2002 so this is a reasonable omission.
OVERALL: 3/5 (pretty great!)
I have looked at the general opinion of the ND community and this one is often ranked low. But I think it's the best one so far of the seven I've played. A big part of that is, while the other games also have some brilliant moments, there was always some bit where you'd get stuck because the game was withholding information from you. The PDA solves this by ensuring that you always have all the info, so if you're stuck, it's because you have yet to apply the information that is in front of you. This is the correct way to design puzzle games (though I hope future games don't spoil puzzle answers in the PDA). I also think the puzzle design was better overall and fit the atmosphere.
Finally, buppy :D
Great game! Recommend this to anyone who is interested in mobsters from the 20s and nature. The trails were fun and I enjoyed the characters. I even learned about how harmful deer mice droppings are.
On my replay of all Nancy Drew games on Senior Detective mode I give this game a 4/10. If there was a neutral option I would give it that. I think it has an interesting story. Not as many puzzles as I like, it's more going back and forth between people. I still think it is a good game to play but not super essential in the Nancy Drew series if you are deciding between this and others. I definitely don't think it is horrible just not one I see myself replaying any time soon.
I grew up playing ND games and this was one of my first ones. I've probably played this game 4 times or so (only 1x on Steam). Ghost Dogs has an amazing story that combines 1920s history (think prohibition, speakeasies, gangsters) with a beautiful forest setting that has you bird watching, collecting critters, and getting to the bottom of some freaky doggos. I really enjoyed the characters in this ND game and think it's overall a fantastic game that balances dialogue, reading/research, exploration and puzzles.
love this game!
Another solid entry in the Nancy Drew adventure game series, Puzzles challenging as always, only occasionally frustrating. Based on one of my favorite stories, even if it is from a non-canon collection of "ghost" stories. They expanded quite a bit on the material but kept the bones.
KEEP ON TRUCKIN
First Nancy Drew game I ever played in the 20s and I remember I loved it very much to point that it got me hook on Drew games, Sadly the computer I played it on no longer works and so of course I had to buy it again, still loving it.
As a kid I wasn't allowed to play this one, because it was way scarier than the rest. As an adult, its extremely mild though! xD It's a great, well-rounded game. I do wish Her Interactive had handled their characters of color a little differently, but that's my only criticism. Otherwise, it's a really well-thought through game. You can tell they worked hard to make all the puzzles and secrets believable and the level of detail makes this game fantastic. The setting is a little gloomy, but that makes it perfect for Halloween season! :)
One of the most iconic classic HerInteractive games. It was the second one I ever played as a kid so it has a special place in my heart, but it's also a great game in its own right.
Gotta love the fun puzzles that Ms. Drew always has in store for us!
It is way more basic (in the technical sense) to use than some of the others just because it's older but the later half of the game is really interesting. The puzzles are definitely not as hard. Good one to do in the middle of trickier games.
This is one of my fave Nancy's, hands down. Due to story and location mostly but overall great puzzles and has a good ending! Truly a must play for any Nancy Drew fan!
A lot of backtracking, wandering through the forest 100 times and riding the boat for what feels like a minute each time - just to add additional time to the story. Puzzles that aren't really puzzles even on the hardest mode because they're so easy to solve. I say this as a fan since I was a kid - this is the worst one I have played to date.
