Not the best in the series----the original was a little better

A rather simple introduction to the Nancy Drew PC games, pretty straightforward, mainly just talking. Altough I did get stuck sometimes where you just had to talk to everyone again until someone popped up with new dialogue and I forgot to look at the menu...don't be like me.
Just enjoyable fun.

Secrets Can Kill: Remastered is a remake of the first Nancy Drew adventure game. In this game, Nancy goes undercover to investigate the murder of a high school student. The remastered version has different graphics from the original and a different plot. It also has some of the extra features added to later Nancy Drew games, like the cell phone and the in-game notebook.
To solve the mystery, Nancy has to explore the school, talk to other students, and decode the messages left behind by the victim. The mystery wasn't especially complex and the culprit seemed really obvious from about the halfway point. There are a couple of red herrings but they aren't explored in depth.
The gameplay involves mostly exploring and solving codes, with a couple of other puzzles mixed in. There aren't many inventory object puzzles. I enjoyed solving the coded messages. It was usually pretty easy to tell what the code was going for but there were a couple of less straightforward ones mixed in. The final puzzle in the game was the only one that didn't really make sense to me, and I ended up needing a lot of trial and error to figure it out.
There are a lot of Nancy Drew references throughout the game, both to the other games and the books. The bulletin boards in the school feature a lot of art from the Nancy Drew series, and most of the books in the library are references to other games.
There's a lot of stuff in this game that's just unnecessary. Some of that is just references, like the books in the library that you don't really need to read, but a lot of it is stuff that has to do with the setup of the case. The game has a lot of codes and a few different suspects to talk to, but only a limited number of them have to do with the true culprit. If it doesn't pertain to the main culprit, you can finish the game without fully investigating/solving it. In my playthrough, I ended up with some unanswered questions and unsolved puzzles because I didn't follow up on other clues in time, and it made the resolution less satisfying.
There were things I liked about Secrets Can Kill but overall it was just okay. The puzzles were mostly pretty enjoyable, the codes were tricky but fun, and I enjoyed the references to the books and other games. However, the plot is pretty weak and there is a lot of stuff in the game that goes nowhere and is unnecessary. 6/10
Great for Nancy Drew beginners, or those wanting pure nostalgia vibes! Puzzles are overall easy and you don't get lost and confused about what to do in this one! A great starting point for those getting back into the Nancy Drew Universe!
This was fun to replay with some differences from the original. I wasn't a huge fan of this one when I first played it as a kid (on double discs mind you!) and I can't say I loved it this time around. However, I was impressed with the updated graphics! It felt more like a nice nostalgia play then anything really exciting or scary. The plot didn't stand out much and the character's weren't compelling to me. Overall game play 2/5 and scare factor 2/5.

I'm very sad to say but this is the only Nancy Drew game I can't recommend and I have played them all. Granted this is one of the very first but this is definitely skipable unless you want to be a completionist which is why I played it. The game is absurdly short, there are only three locations, and the puzzles are quite boring. I bought it on sale but it's worth less than $5 for what you get.
A short game, but good introduction to Nancy Drew. Not my favorite of the Nancy Drew Games, but not my least favorite!
Only took about 4-5 hours to beat. Shorter than I would have liked and ciphers weren't very challenging but I would still recommend it for the nostalgia. Good if you want something to get the detective juices flowing but you don't want to do any critical heavy thinking!

Именно эта часть, пожалуй, самая душная из всех, что я играла. Локации однообразные. Читать 15 одинаковых записок на одинаковых стендах просто невообразимо скучно. И хоть и шифры довольно интересные, но по факту они почти не имеют никакого значения в игре. Было бы намного интереснее, если бы Нэнси не допускала нас до осмотра каких-либо предметов, пока мы не сделаем декодирование.... В прошлых частях, например, Нэнси предлагала записывать решения на листочках и комментировала все наши действия.
Здесь создается ощущение, что ты играешь отдельно от Нэнси, а она просто ходит и щупает всё подряд по наитию...
Так же СКРИПТЫ, более бесячие мне ещё не встречались. Меня не допускали к сюжетному событию просто потому что я не рассмотрела близко плакат, который в целом мало на что влиял... Да и издалека был прекрасно виден/читабелен.
Потратила 4 часа на прохождение, 2 из которых просто пыталась понять, что я не сделала...
Из приятного - яичко можно получить ЛОГИЧЕСКИМ путем, а не как во многих других играх серии.
Плюсик поставлю сюжету, он действительно интересный. Правда Нэнси очень радостно регаирует на убийство, что вызывает некоторые вопросы :D

Nancy Drew: Secrets Can Kill is the first mystery of the HER Interactive Nancy Drew series. This particular edition is the remastered one. It's not one of my favorites, though the music is very nostalgic. The mystery is good, a little darker than the other games. A murdered high school student has left behind a series of clues that leads Nancy to his secrets... and his killer. This game is short, only a couple hours of gameplay.
Most of this game is character interaction and reading billboards. There are very few puzzles. Ned gives you helpful clues if you get stuck.
Overall, it's neat to see where this series started, this one feels a tad more realistic story-wise compared to the other more fantastical mysteries.
As someone who has played many Nancy Drew games throughout my life, I wanted to start from the beginning and experience them all. While Secrets Can Kill is more simple than later games in the series, I find it to be a good thing. For people wanting to play but not sure where to start, this is a great game to test the waters. It's not too hard and doesn't leave you frustrated looking up online walkthroughs. The graphics are not amazing, especially compared to more recent installations, but I was able to easily look past this. My only complaint is a glitch that happens during some cutscenes that cause the screen to flash rapidly. It's not too horrible--I could still make out what was happening and read the dialogue--but I'll still issue a fair warning to anyone with epilepsy or photosensitivity.
Overall, it was a good game! I really enjoyed it.
The game is still worth playing, but it's not a well-made remaster. The graphics are inconsistent: some a blurry, some are OK< (but still worse compared to successor's "Shadow at the Water's Edge"). Music is not remarkable and quite annoying in Diner location with some random and I guess buggy sounds of alarm or door knocking. The atmosphere (apart from aunt Eloise house) is boring and the school feels empty. "Barnacle Blast" is the only mini-game present in this title and is pretty hard and buggy (it can freeze for the slightest moment that makes you lose a ball). Especially considering the fact that you need to reach level 20 for the Award. Plus, some of the character's speech lines are not in logical order.
On the bright side, the story is good with a nice twist in the end. Although there are not many in-game puzzles the "solving" progression is still interesting. It requires finding pieces of information, combining them and figuring out what to do next on your own.
I would recommend and the game was fun. But MUCH shorter than I was expecting. so if you're expecting a lot of puzzles, this one is not for you.
Amazing, beefy final puzzle. I just wish the 'first step' isn't locked behind dialogue progression that is quite easy to miss and cause player to go back and forth trying things out without results.

It's a pretty good game. Not difficult, but also not easy.
I played this game in 2002 with my 6 year old daughter. And then we played every single Nancy Drew through the last one in 2019 when she was 23 years old. Tonight the two of us continued the tradition by introducing it to my 8 year old grand daughter. It is a family legacy now.
It was alright, very easy and definitely a beginner game compared to some of the other ones I've played. Not the biggest fan but if you're looking for an introduction to the series I would for sure start with this one.

I've known Nancy Drew games for years but haven't finished any of the ones I tried. I'm glad I decided to play Nancy Drew now, and I plan to finish the whole series. Secrets Can Kill is the first installment of the series, initially released in 1998, and this is the remaster, released in 2010. You receive a new investigation about the murder of Jake Rogers in a school. Jake was a popular student with many haters around him. Investigate the school, question the suspected students, and use your journal to follow the leads to solve this mystery.

I loved her to-do list, which kept her objectives clear and easy to follow. I found it easy to follow the story along with the journal and didn't need any hints. The hinting system is in the phone by calling your friend to give you an idea of the solution. The voiceovers are excellent; all the conversations are voiced, but you must read a couple of notes to get clues. Puzzles vary in difficulty; you can't solve some without collecting multiple hints first.

Initially, I was not too fond of the 3D navigation; it made me dizzy, but I got used to it after a while and found it easy. I only wished for a map of the areas so I wouldn't keep going back and forth; it is understandable since the game is pretty old. The soundtrack, however, is excellent; I loved it so much that it sometimes sounded intense.
The graphics are dated but still easy on the eyes. Despite its age, I enjoyed every part of this game. I haven't seen the original, but this remaster is good. There is a manual save; I highly recommend saving it occasionally.

I discovered the manual in Steam's additional content section after I finished the game. It would have been a great help with one of the last puzzles, and I appreciated them including it with the game. I highly recommend this game for any mystery and detective lovers.

A charming puzzle game. Way better than expected.
It's a classic since it's the first, but it's a major snoozefest plot wise! The puzzles are nice though and it did a great job setting up expectations for future games.

Somehow both tedious and short. I have played a couple of Nancy Drew games in the past and found them reasonably entertaining so figured I would start as close to the beginning as I can get. I have very limited familiarity with the franchise so the callbacks and Easter eggs were lost on me. I found the mystery dull, the characters boring and the voice acting was pretty hideous. The puzzles were either easy or tedious with nothing in between. Not the worst game in existence, I am sure, but not a good introduction to the Nancy Drew game series. Not really worth full price unless you are a Nancy Drew completionist.
this game is so scary. The door slamming noise and alarm really had me freaking out. The jumpscares are insane. I almost cried. I had to turn the lights on in my house because i was so on edge. This game took me 9 hours. I hated that guy - AKA; all of them. Ja : u2
Would recommend. This was my first Nancy Drew and I think the pacing was pretty nice. As you can see by my playtime, it wasn't too long or too hard. I'm happy to have so many other opus to play now.
I recommend that you get the ND games in their pack and on sale as I think I bought 10 of them for 20€ or something
it was good
This was a little hard to get into at first but it felt very rewarding towards the end when you solve some of the more difficult mysteries and puzzles.
I played the original with my two best friends as a kid so getting to play it a gain decades later was a straight shot of nostalgia! I will say that the world is smaller and the playtime definitely feels shorter than I remember, though, which is probably just a product of me getting older and games getting easier lol. I was able to finish it on Senior Detective mode in about 4 or 5 hours even while taking my time looking for Easter eggs, goofing around, and getting stuck on a puzzle, but I enjoyed every second. I definitely want to play again to try to get all of the detective achievements.
It's definitely a fun way to spend an afternoon. I'd definitely recommend it to anyone who wants something chill to play and enjoys point-and-clicks, puzzles, mysteries, and games with that classic late '90s/early 2000s feel. It's a nice remaster and I hope that one day HeR will release a port of the original with the old 2D animations.
I love the Nancy Drew games. I'm currently trying to do them in order and this is the first time I'm doing Secrets Can Kill. I enjoyed the story and the sleuthing even though I finished the game in a few hours. Either way, it was fun!
This is the 2nd game I try within the Nancy Drew HOG games and I am still not a fan. They are ok to try on a boring afternoon when you have nothing better to do. However, I am not a fan of the writing or the way the clues are scattered in these games.
if you like detective games, you will love this one
This is the first Nancy Drew game I have ever played, and I played it for the first time just now. So this was definitely a new experience for me. I am a big fan of point & click games (oldies as well as new ones), and also detective games, so this saga seemed to hit all the right marks. And as far as point & click games go, this one was alright. I can't say it's my favorite (or anywhere near it), but I had a good enough time with it. I can totally see its appeal, especially if you are a fan of the source material, or have played it as a child, it looks like the kind of game that sticks with you. I bought the whole lot here on steam, and I'll eventually get around to playing them all, I expect to have a nice enough time with each one (even better if I warm up to recurring characters, although I'm not sure there will be any besides the protagonist). The game is actually shorter than my playtime, but I kept going for the in-game achievements ([spoiler]having to beat 20 levels of an Arkanoid game to get one was definitely too much, and there's no real benefits other than having the award at the end, so I'd advice against it XD[/spoiler]).
Overall, nice enough, even if you are new to the saga, I can recommend
I've never played this Nancy Drew game before as I only grew up playing the two Dossiers. Since a lot of the games are really inexpensive since they are pretty old I am going on a journey to play through them all. I finished this one pretty quickly and I didn't guess the twist. I would say it isn't one of my favorites though because of the tediousness of finding all the clues. I'm really glad I had a guide to help me. Still, I'm glad I played it.

I have grown up on these games and now am working through playing them all over and filling in the gaps of ones I missed. While I never played the OG version of this game, I enjoyed this one! It was SUPER short - only took me 2.5 hours to complete. I would say all in all it was good! Not as awesome as others, but I would not exclude it into the lesser end of ND games. Overall 7/10 :)

Nancy Drew: Secrets Can Kill Remastered is the remastered version of the original game by the same title. The original game is not available for purchase off of her interactive's website but if you can find the files or the original disc version of the game then you can still play it. One of three ways: using the discs, ScummVM or tricking your computer into thinking that the discs are being used when you are just renaming files on your computer (only two folders - it is easier then you think).
This game follows Nancy as she is undercover with her contact Detective Beach trying to find the person who killed Jake Rodgers and most importantly the piece of evidence that can most likely tie the killer to the crime like a possible note book that Jake may have written important things down.
Overall, I like this game it is a simple good short and a great introduction to the Nancy Drew game series. If you are new I would recommend playing this game as it is a good start and technically the first game in the series.
An odd enjoyable little game. I was always curious about Nancy Drew games so I thought I'd do a little research and find the first game even though I had heard that they're all self contained stories. So I went and bought the Nancy Drew Classic Bundle which had the first game and 4 others. I was wondering if it'd be a bit of a slog like other older games I've played, the Witcher coming to mind. Yet, I was actually able to complete the entire game without any walk-through help. Though, I'm a bit sad that this game didn't have any steam achievements.
I think the game was voice acted well. In these types of games I feel like they sometimes beat you over the head with the same information, and that makes you want to skip all the voice acted dialogue and just skim the transcript. However, I didn't feel that way with this game and was genuinely listening to everyone. I don't know if I'll feel that way with the other games, but hopefully.
Last, but not least the cellphone. I feel like I almost screwed myself over by not using it to take pictures right away. Luckily, when I started using it I quickly found the things I had passed that I wanted to take pictures of because there's a big puzzle you need a ton of pictures for. Also as wonderful as the cellphone is, I would knock an entire star off this game for it changing the resolution of the pictures. It made reading a couple of the important puzzle pieces hard.
Lastly, you will probably need a scrap piece of paper or a notebook for that big puzzle, so it would of been nice if they provided one in game.
My hot and gay wife has these games so now I'm going to play through the Nancy Drew series, as someone who missed out on the games and also never read any of the books.
SECRETS CAN KILL
The Good
- Everything is neat and self-contained. The game shouldn't take too long to complete from start to finish, and it's possible a first-timer can do everything in one sitting.
- The in-game cellphone is a life-saver! Taking notes is always helpful but the ability to photograph all the important clues minimizes the obsessive note-taking required for most 90s puzzlers.
- I dig the 90s nostalgia, as a cringe millennial
- Most puzzles are fun to solve and the solution paths are totally logical once you have all the required information. The only exception imo is the [spoiler]boiler room levers[/spoiler] which feels like the devs are just trolling you. There's also at least one puzzle which asks you to piece together multiple clues, *but* you can work out a solution even if you don't find all the clues. I personally loved the last two puzzles of the game the most.
- You can drink soda.
The Bad
- Overall the game has aged poorly, particularly in regards to the gameplay loop. There was probably no way a remaster would fix this without HeR just straight up remaking the whole game. If you can get through the slooooooow turning speed and a few pixel hunt-y moments you'll be fine.
- The dialogue is... not great. I understand brevity is important in this genre, so everyone cuts straight to the chase, but I kept thinking the whole game that these students would immediately assume Nancy Drew was a cop and not talk to her, just based on how you essentially walk up to total strangers and start interrogating them.
- On that note, the story doesn't feel all that solid either. While the puzzles are totally logical, the story beats are not. The ending feels like it comes out of nowhere imo, and [spoiler]it really feels like none of the stuff you do in the story logically connects to the final reveal[/spoiler].
- The [spoiler]timed boiler room puzzle[/spoiler], the only puzzle where I could say "how on earth was I to know I was supposed to do that"
- Every time you want to enter the library, you have to go to your inventory and pull out the key. The door does not stay unlocked. The suffering I endured opening that menu over and over is indescribable.
The Weird
- Okay, the [spoiler]final puzzle at the manor is really funny. That's a good way to end the game.[/spoiler].
- My man Jake Rogers really just posted cryptic clues all over the school bulletin boards where anyone could read and decipher them and no one bothered to do that until you came along. The story almost justifies it, but it is still very silly.
- Nancy Drew sounds like a 40 year old smoker.
- You can blow up two separate buildings in this game. You're not supposed to, but just know that you're allowed to.
- You can lose the game if you use a vending machine wrong. I will not provide context for this.
OVERALL
I enjoyed it okay. A lot of the problems imo are due to the game aging poorly. Newer games have much better interfaces and more abilities to integrate story and gameplay. It's also a bit too short to really get invested in and a lot of the puzzles don't feel like they fit into the game world.
Fun play despite it's problems. This is a super short game and you can really feel it once it's done like "hmmm what did I actually do" and to me doesn't feel like a real investigation compared to a lot of other titles in the series. Regardless I still think the series as a whole is worth a play if puzzles, point and click, bad accents, and mysteries are your think. I'd rank this towards the bottom of the series as far as favorites go - but it's iconic because it's the "first" game.
Played some of these as a kid. Still fun and still challenging in senior detective mode! Honestly holds up really well! I plan on playing the entire game series. HIGHLY RECOMMEND!!!
I will start by saying that I love the entire Nancy Drew series so this comment will most likely be biased :).
This was not their best game ever but since it was the first, it is understandable. It was a good start and for the time it came out originally (1998), it was great and it felt so nostalgic going through it after all these years.
The puzzles are not difficult and not that numerous but they do require attention to detail. You have the option to play as a Junior or Senior Detective, so the Junior one provides more help for new players of the series. Also, the story is rather cliche but again, this is an old game and back in those days it was on the side of novelty :)
Overal, it's worth the time it takes to play it however, the full price tag seems worth it more for those with nostalgia, not for new players of the series. Just remember not to judge the entire series only based on this one game and play it know it was relesead in '98 ;)

Considering this is the oldest Nancy Drew game, it's surprising to say that it's actually still one of the best, even 34 games later. Great puzzles, characters, and mystery.
One tip though: make sure that you click on the 'Judo Poster' near the gym at some point. This triggers dialogue with one character. Without it, you'll get stuck.
This game is by far the worst ND games I have tried. It took me 2 hours to finish, the mystery was too easy and there was 2 puzzles basically. It was boring and you could spend your money elsewhere. ND has way better options.

Never played the old Nancy Drews before, man, this is rough. Dont get me wrong it's still fun to play and captures the ND-Spirit, but you can tell this one was their first attempt. The later ones are so much better. It's close to a "neutral" for me. Wouldnt play it again.

I recommend this only to people who want to play all of the Nancy Drew games or if you have played a few and want something a bit simpler with some arbitrary puzzles. The length is a bit short but considering that it is a remaster of the first game that is to be expected. There are some minor graphical glitches and bugs, and some weird dialogue, with some minor typos but I do see the effort they made updating the original to the new format. There are not a ton of puzzles in this game especially if you compare it to the later Nancy Drew games which was when this came out during, so it might be jarring to see how much of the puzzles just rely on you finding specific things by clicking specific locations, as compared to others where puzzles are their own logic or uses in-world or in-game logic to solve. The story is a straightforward though I do like how it unfolds and how it is paced towards a cool ending (though you can see who the culprit was a mile away if you look close enough)
Still a nice Nancy Drew game, but maybe only for those who really enjoy them.
It was a neat little mystery game with pretty decent puzzles. Good introduction to the Nancy Drew series. I only wish there were Steam Achievements.
First time playing ND games in 15+ years. Felt good to relive and honestly, still had it's challenges that stumped me for a minute. I never played the original, so I know I've seen some reviews say the remaster has some positive changes to the story/ending, but I can't speak much on the original. As a completionist, I enjoyed this + a few easter eggs hidden within the game. I would play again in a few years.

Its a fun puzzle game. If you don't like looking around at literally everything then this is not for you. You do have to do things in order sometimes so if you miss something little it can be frustrating to move on. I love the nancy drew games. I've played them since I was a kid and its just fun to sit down for a few hours and solve some mysteries.

The first Nancy Drew game, hence the remaster. Quite short and only a few puzzles. The ending is a letdown.
I have played the OG version of this game, and I always thought the ending was terrible. You never even interact with the killer until the very last scene. In this remaster, the ending is somehow worse, with a completely new character and you never see the killer at all. I didn't understand why there was a cage to catch Uncle Steve because I got the passcode correct on my first try so never found out that if you get the code wrong a cage falls on you. 0/10 Uncle Steve Points. Bad ending.
U CAN'T ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ SAVE OR ELSE IT'LL CRASH. I'M DONE LOOKING UP TO HOTFIX THIS 2 DECADE YEAR OLD GAME AND NOBODY IS EVEN TRYING POSTING ABOUT THESE ISSUES. IF U HAVE LATE PC SPECS DON'T BUY IT!!
Most of the game is you walking around and solving little coded notes with barely ever speaking to anyone... and while that was fun in its own way, it was also one of the games biggest flaws in my opinion. It meant that there was no real story line or arc to the story as you progressed. It felt like the entire story was stuck stagnant in one or two hours of a day and you were just sitting at your computer figuring out coded notes all at once with no shifting goals or feeling of progression.
Surpisingly finished this in one sitting, which I would not normally be able to do.
This was one of the first Games that got me into Nancy Drew, so this game holds a very special place in my heart <3

Но там происходит ужасное событие - студент Джейк Роджерс был найден мертвым со следами насильственной смерти. Один из детективов, расследующих дело, просит нашу тетю отправить нас на помощь следствию в виде студента по обмену. Мы прекрасно понимаем на какой риск идем, но ничего не можем поделать - необходимо поймать убийцу и представить его суду.
Многие истинные фанаты серии жалуются что ремейк этой части 2010 года порезал и испортил многие моменты из оригинальной версии 1998 года. Так как я не знаком с оригиналом, то могу судить только по личным впечатлениям.
После достаточно пресной Alibi in Ashes вновь влиться в насыщенную и большую интерактивную локацию было интересным опытом. Здесь прекрасная стилизация под типичные американские школы с множеством плакатов, листовок и длинными коридорами со шкафчиками. Мне было интересно рассматривать окружение и вчитываться в многочисленные тексты. Почти все головоломки тут заточены под поиск информации и данных, а также активное взаимодействие с персонажами. Они тут к слову реализованы неплохо и обладают яркими характерами.
Насыщенный финальный сегмент в котельной впечатлил меня, а личность преступника удивила. Я бы никогда не подумал что такой человек может совершить зверское преступление. Это первая часть из детективной серии про Нэнси, где мы сталкиваемся с таким громким преступлением и ищем опасного преступника. Мне понравилась атмосфера американской школы и неспешные прогулки по местным коридорам.
Pretty standard Nancy Drew fare, and a bit weird how there's this whole school with ZERO classrooms in it and almost NOTHING comes up in their card catalog (yeah yeah I know programming a game and all, but it always feels artificial). At least the puzzles in this one mostly make sense, vs. some of the ones with wood box puzzles with *A.I.*
Recommend if you already know and love the Nancy Drew series, as it's more of the same. Haven't played the original to know what's remastered, but this version is nice.

What a strange game to come back to after 17 years. The remaster helps the whole story to feel like it was leading somewhere rather than the slightly unfulfilling ending of the original version. Despite the fact that the characters have gone from two dimensions to three, the original characters still all feel very one-dimensional. However, the addition of the new character gave the story a little more depth and made the remake come together. To be fair, it's a remake of the first in the series, the one that started it all, so I have to give it some credit, even if it doesn't have the same punch as the later games. It is an homage to the series anyway, so it's not really even about the gameplay anyway. 5/10.
a classic if you are a fan of Nancy Drew games as a whole, but its very short and lacking what a lot of the later games have. Wouldn't be my first pick to play but definitely not my last.

I thought this game was so fun; at one point I got really stuck but made myself keep trying without any hints and it felt so satisfying when I finally got to the end! 9/10; needs less Daryl hitting on you. Also, I loved that it works so well as a multiplayer game and I was able to share it with my whole family! Although I haven't played other games in the series yet I'm really excited to! :)
P.S., I will probably go back and play it again to get all of the achievements you can earn. I highly recommend it!
While this is a nice little introduction to the Nancy Drew game series, I'm afraid I can't recommend it. To start off with, during playing, I was faced with an awful graphical glitch that caused intense flashing lights. I'm an epileptic. My laptop isn't horrible nor is it top-of-the-line, however, this glitch really should be patched out. I have no activity myself but I still have to be careful about flashing lights since I will always be epileptic; it can come back at any point in time. Another reason why I can't recommend this game is that it is rather short and feels quite bare in comparison to other games in the series. I've played others before when I was a child and was surprised to be allowed to just wander into the kitchen in the diner. You're typically blocked from places where you're not supposed to be; you have to figure out a way how to get in. This mechanic is seen with one of the characters when you're trying to get into the teachers' lounge. The overall bareness results in a lackluster mystery. You figure out pretty quickly which one of the students was at least involved in the murder because you don't even have to talk to them for most of the playtime. If you're playing on Junior, for example, you do not need to also talk to them to check certain tasks off. They had been separated from the other students. In the end, there are only five characters you can talk to, and any red herring feels weak. Do check out the other games in the series, though! Just please stay away from this one if you're epileptic like me and end up with the same graphical glitch.

I felt this one lacked a lot of variety in the puzzles. the majority were word based secret notes. They were ok, but frustrating to realise the way you took your note meant the puzzle couldn't be solved without going back to it. i had to use a walk through a lot for this one as a result. It was alright, but not the best nacy game of the older collection.

o primeiro nancy drew da her interactive. é igual todos os outros, dialogos e personagens toscos de jogos point and click do começo dos anos 2000, a historia desse é relativamente mais interessante que os jogos da nancy drew costumam ser, mas você tem que ficar scanneando a tela com o mouse como sempre pra achar onde clicar. é o primeiro da franquia e um dos melhores, na minha opinião.
First time playing the Remastered version; probably the original, which I still have, would've been just as fine in terms of the story and game play (except for switching between the discs!). This remastered version has hints/nods to games later in the Nancy Drew series in the books you can read in the high school's library, but as it had nothing to do with this mystery, it was a bit frustrating for it to be in this game. Overall I am not a fan of many of the characters and the only interesting part is the murder and the culprit's motive. Still recommended for being the first game in the series.

every Nancy drew game (with a few exceptions) is great and this one was at least a 6/10, the final few puzzles were too confusing for me, and the atmosphere and immersion aren't great but I enjoyed myself for the almost 4 hours I spent with this game.
Cons:
Although a remaster you can feel that this is the oldest game in the series.
i don't ask for hand holding but i had no clue i had the key to the library half the game or even where the library was! I never used a ladle I found very early on and the villain kinda came out of nowhere.
Interesting story line, some puzzles were challenging and kept me hooked, also has the checklist which helps when you are stumped on what to do!
Just wish it went on a bit longer!

I'm honestly surprised at how quickly I finished this game, especially with 3 full notebook pages filled to the brim. I absolutely adored the puzzles and the storyline; I didn't need a single walkthrough for this one. Also, I didn't do a completionist run, but I appreciate how many achievements there are to get and may have to back through the game in the future. Voice acting, gameplay, and navigation were all stellar. 10/10
Secrets Can Kill: Remastered is by far the shortest ND game I have played. This only took me about two and a half hours, most of that time spent playing Barnacle Blaster and hunting down quarters. This is both a positive and negative trait of the game; other ND titles are notoriously impossible that SCK, despite its lack of complexity, is refreshing since you can complete this without any external help. If you're new to the Nancy Drew franchise, this is a good place to start as it introduces you to the mechanics and general vibe of these games. Just know that the later games have much richer gameplay with more intriguing characters, hard (and some almost impossible) puzzles, and fully fleshed out locale to explore. SCK is short and sweet and doesn't require too much brain power as the few puzzles there are are easily solvable. Does the story leave a bit to be desired? Yes. As an ND fan who has played the majority of the games, SCK doesn't hold a candle to some later titles. Does that make SCK any less enjoyable? No. :) Go for it with low expectations if you're a newbie and if you're a fan, you'll find something to love just because of your love for ND. (I loved the diner and Nancy's aunt's house. Reminds me of my family's Floridian homes!)
