Storyline

Putt-Putt delivers a bag of Zoo Chow to the Cartown Zoo for its grand opening. Upon arriving and talking to Outback Al, the head zookeeper, he discovers that many last-minute problems have come up; most notably, several baby animals are missing! Putt-Putt volunteers to travel around the zoo and find Baby Jambo the elephant, Masai the giraffe, Kenya the lion cub, Sammy the seal, Zanzibar the hippopotamus, Skeeter the snake, and Sammy the seal and get them back to their parents.

Putt Putt Saves The Zoo is a lovely relaxing game. They go the extra mile with all the little details on the environments and animals, like having a full fifteen minutes of toucan jokes that no one but us listened to. There is a lot of whimsy and heart in all of the characters. My favourite animal was Masai the Giraffe, but they are all very good friends to Putt Putt. The minigames are also unironically pretty good, the ice hockey mini game especially. That Polar bear is an incredible athlete and I look forward to watching their career unfold.

Als kind veel gespeeld, nu gekocht pakket 'Humongous Entertainment Complete Pack' gekocht voor mijn zoon.
Een veel leuker alternatief dan de 'gratis' rommel android spelletjes die hij op de tablet speelt.

Ja, de graphics zijn slecht. Maar voor een kind maakt dat niet uit.
Voor te bewaren in de nederlandstalige versie: duw op toetsenbord knop 'b' voor bewaren ipv engelse s voor save.

Another great putt putt game in the series

The gameplay and story were on par with Putt Putt Goes to the moon, and it's ok, I think I personally preferred the 2nd game but this one is also alright. Kinda feel like the game missed a lot on not making all animals require you to rescue them by knowing information about them, one of them, snake, can be saved by giving it a hot cocoa(because snake can't move if their internal temperature drops too low), which is cool, but I wish more/all animals required you to do that. There's a speaker box Infront of all parent animals, and it would be kinda cool to see the game insentivise learning about animals in this way. Also as before, the game is a bit too easy if you play it as an adult, and I wish they were just a bit more challenging.

Also, whoever was the developer behind that snowbear hockey mini game? He/she must've loved hockey a lot, because it was actually kinda HARD to win a 2nd time, because bear starts to actually move well, a highlight of the whole game for me xD

Also I rarely mention graphical changes, but this time, it's kinda important to mention it, since in this game Humongous Entertainment showcases their signature style that appears through all future games, and they removed uncanny Putt Putt smile from first two games.

Overall, another good entry in Putt Putt series.

Probably the best Putt-Putt game out there. The animation and sounds are great, and you don't have to do menial jobs to get coins; even painting your car is free. And for those on Mac as well, the game runs perfectly with no compatibility issues or glitches. Pro tip: Command+Q/Ctrl+Q quits the game.

Revisited this game after almost 20 years, which I used to play as a small Czech child with my sister on the family computer. We understood almost none of the English and it was so special to me to now know what all the gibberish meant.
The gameplay mostly consists of clicking, except for a few mini games, but that still provides more than enough entertainment. The amount of things you can interact with is amazing and the animations are just so random and funny, I still remembered so many of them.
To me this is a timeless piece of art and I can't wait to show it to my nephew. ♥

Putt-Putt Saves The Zoo is a short educational point & click meant for children. Compared to previous installments, Saves The Zoo has a much more upbeat and fun atmosphere. From this game onwards the Putt-Putt series has found their art styles look and feel. This one in the series I spent a lot of time on when young and had fond memories of.

A fun educational game that will take kids to the zoo and teach them about animals, a little bit of their ecology, and the environments they come from. Make sure to click on the small speakers that will give short informationals to some of the animals. Interesting feature that's added in this game is how you can get a camera in the very beginning of the game that allows you to take pictures of the animals and can even get it printed. A fun little introduction to cameras and printers for kids I suppose.
Still quite a short game especially if you were to rush saving the animals, but there are seemingly far more interactables that will be fun for kids to mess around with not to mention the 2 mini games that are definitely fun. Items can be collected at any time when you first find them eliminating the need to backtrack and reducing the time it takes to figure out some puzzles which may possibly shorten play sessions. Unfortunately the baby animals are always trapped the same way making it easy to save them once you played through the game once.

The art style change is jarring if you’re going in order but it’s probably for the best. Close images look better and the cartoon style fits.

Probably easier than putt putt goes to the moon and more refined and intuitive than putt putt joins the parade.

This was one of my favourite games as a young kid, and it's still fun playing it over 25 years later.

The puzzles are simple but enjoyable and I think even today would be easy for children to grasp. The baby animals give you pretty obvious hints, too.

Be sure to click on anything you can, since you get a fun little animation whenever you do! They're reactive and very amusing.

Some of the adult animals have stereotypical accents, but that was the only outdated thing I noticed.

If you played this game back in the 90s, it's absolutely worth replaying today. If you have young kids yourself, I recommend it for them, too. It's relatively short, and only took me about 40 minutes to play through (and that's with clicking on almost everything and watching every little animation), but it was a very enjoyable 40 minutes.

To quote Putt-Putt himself, "Hot diggidy! This is fun!"

Putt-Putt® Saves The Zoo is the first in the series to adopt the artstyle that will remain consistent for the rest of Putt-Putt and Pep's run. This is the Putt-Putt that I grew up with, and this game, specifically, holds a lot of memories for me. Compared to the previous entries in the franchise, it is a lot brighter and feels particularly upbeat despite the whole plot revolving around missing animal children... In fairness, this is meant for kids.

Anyways, this game is really charming, but also fairly straightforward. You can easily end up collecting an item you'll need later, which can save on backtracking even if it ends up meaning the game might be a bit on the short side. For children, though, I'm sure they'll remain occupied for longer as I was. There's a lot to explore and even some minigames to partake in. There's even a bonus feature, entirely optional, within the game where you can use a camera to take photos of various animals and characters throughout the journey. These photos can be viewed at any time, can appear in the credits, and can even be printed out. I don't ever remember doing that last bit as a kid, but given the cost of colored ink back then I'm sure my parents appreciated me not investing in that feature. If you don't mind, though, I'm sure that's a fun way for kids to keep a physical Putt-Putt souvenir. It's actually a fairly well fleshed out feature too, as nearly every photo you take will have a different work of art specifically made for that. It's a really nice touch considering it is something I imagine a lot of kids completely gloss over upon realizing they don't [i]need[/i] to take pictures. It really shows Humongous Entertainment's attention to detail and willingness to invest in these games.

As I mentioned earlier, there are a couple of other minigames to be found. There's a 1v1 hockey game against Maurice the Polar Bear and I remember as a kid finding it kind of difficult. It's pretty fun and the penguin stadium you play in has an announcer with a ton of fun voicelines who plays some nice hockey tunes and blasts the horn when someone scores a goal. The other minigame is an animal tag that I remember mostly due to the sounds the animals make when you tag them. One of Humongous Entertainment's defining qualities, I think, is their catalog of iconic, weird sounds, and this little section features some of their most memorable.

Speaking of sound, though, the music here is really special. Each land has its own set of themes, and there's even some tracks that only play around certain areas or characters. It all makes the game feel special and like a lot of love went into it. Oh, and of course I gotta shoutout the 'Welcome to the Zoo' song that plays at the entrance if you click on the topiary creatures. I could recall that song word for word to this day. It's a lot of fun and also...features one of the many easter egg tie-ins for other existing (at the time) H.E. games--most prominently this is Freddi Fish, but I managed to find a few others for Buzzy and Fatty Bear throughout the game. A few of them were really funny, actually.

So anyways, I have a lot of fond memories of this game and I'm sure it can make a lot more for kids today. It is fairly easy as far as these games go, but I think there's still enough charm and interest going on here to keep kids (and the occasional adult) coming back.

I recommend picking this up in either the Putt-Putt Complete Pack or the Humongous Entertainment Complete Pack, ideally on sale.

Oh the memories of playing this game. My aunt had it on disc and I would play the crap out of it as a kid. I was quite happy to find her on Steam by accident. Overall a big step up from the first two games in terms of technology, but in my opinion, a step back in terms of the art. However, a step forward in terms of the animation. There's more of it, and it looks generally pretty okay.

Anyway, Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo is a point and click adventure, as was the style for a lot of PC games at that time. There's a fair few objectives, and they've really ramped up the complexity of this game compared to the earlier Putt-Putt games, because you have now many different branching paths, and some aren't accessible until you find an item that lets you progress, which is usually one one of the other branching paths, so there's actually some backtracking in this game to find things on other paths so you can return to a different path to progress.

There's also more stuff just lying around the screens of the game, so there's actually a little bit of classic pixel hunting in this one. I would call this a detriment, at least a little bit. And it's weird too, because, with the simplicity of the English in this game, and the scenario in general, they still have pretty detailed explanations of the animals in this game when you click on the little speakers near the animals found in the game. They give measurements in feet or the stories of buildings, and that's all pretty difficult stuff for VERY young children to pick up on.

It's one of the things many children's games wrestle with, I think. You want to appeal to children, so you go very 'kiddy' with the art style, the subject matter, the writing, the music, everything, but then you also want it to be educational and you don't necessarily know how dumb it has to be for them or how to convey it adequately.

When Naughty Dog released Jak & Daxter, they found that they themselves had missed with their target audience. The 10-year old demographic wanted to play games for much older kids they wanted games like Grand Theft Auto 3, which was released the same year. This led to a drastic redesign. Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo feels like Jak & Daxter, in the sense that they are aiming quite low, but to be old enough to even play this game... means you're probably old enough that, at the time, you'd probably want to play Doom or Quake, or something.

As for the graphics, I think that the art style is a little less appealing, I think many of the gradients on backgrounds and stuff just aren't that nice to look at, compared to the first two games, so I was a bit disappointed by that. The animation though really saved it I think, though, since they play with angles a lot and I found those elements looked really good, even though much of the background stills and such weren't quite so nice.

There's a surprising amount of cross-promotion in this game, shamelessly so, 'Freddi Fish' for instance shows up multiple times and one of Humongous Entertainment's other games is given a little plug or two. This is not really a damning offence since, even games I like have done this. In some modern games, we have crossover events to specifically help market a game between two games that share what someone figures is a similar playerbase.

Overall I enjoyed it, it's hard to grade it compared to the first two games because I have a lot of nostalgia for those.

This is a very old game but still very attractive for young children. I was not able to 'SAVE' and 'LOAD' the game progression. The F5 key has the 'SAVE' and 'LOAD' keys greyed out ? The game's original way to save and load was the 's' key and the 'l' key. They also do not work ! I run this game in the 'DUTCH' language for my grandson. Finally I found the right keys ! To save in the 'DUTCH' version, use the 'b' key (Bewaar) to SAVE and use the 'r' key (Roep) to LOAD your progression. Not very obvious ... Hope this info helps.

Jeu de mon enfance et, à y rejouer en étant adulte, je le trouve vraiment très bien fait pour un jeu datant de 1995. Le fait qu'on puisse cliquer partout et qu'il y ait des sons, des petites interactions, je trouve ça vraiment formidable et drôle. Nice hint of nostalgia. I love that nothing was changed, but now you don't need the original CD/DVD game to play. I remember playing this game so much as a kid, so I am glad I can just go to Steam and revisit those memories. I only wish - not related to this game, but the creators of a different sort of simple point-and-click kids' game - that the creators of Blue's Clues: Blue's Birthday Adventure did a similar port to Steam. The Blue's Clues game I am referencing had 2 disc's for different experiences; a Red disc about what Blue wants to do at her party and what Blue wants to play; and the Yellow disc about what she wants to give her guests and what Blue wants to eat at her party. Sadly not every kids' CD/DVD game from the 2000's to 2010's has done a port, so with this franchise, I am very glad that they decided to allow the game to live on, along with other Putt-Putt games and with games of the same franchise, like with Freddi Fish! I do recommend this game for any kids or people wanting to revisit childhood memories.

I love the game, but hate this service. It takes forever for it to load straight from my computer and even longer when i try to go through STEAM itself. Sometimes it won't load from anywhere. A waste of money.
Also, I can't use another game on another computer at the same time. i purchased this for my preschool class and I can only have one child at a time play, which is a bummer because we LOVE Putt Putt.

One of the best Putt Putt games out there.

Saves The Zoo follows the multiple paths formula where you can handle any objective in any order you'd like which makes repeat playthroughs fun, each animal has different conversations for before/after meeting them aswell as before/after meeting their parents so it's rich filled with dialogue you can easily miss but goes to show how much attention to detail is put into this game.

Its aged incredibly well, alot of fun and one of my fav Putt Putt games.

Whenever I get a package of plain M&Ms, I make it my duty to continue the strength and robustness of the candy as a species. To this end, I hold M&M duels. Taking two candies between my thumb and forefinger, I apply pressure, squeezing them together until one of them cracks and splinters. That is the “loser,” and I eat the inferior one immediately. The winner gets to go another round. I have found that, in general, the brown and red M&Ms are tougher, and the newer blue ones are genetically inferior. I have hypothesized that the blue M&Ms as a race cannot survive long in the intense theater of competition that is the modern candy and snack-food world. Occasionally I will get a mutation, a candy that is misshapen, or pointier, or flatter than the rest. Almost invariably this proves to be a weakness, but on very rare occasions it gives the candy extra strength. In this way, the species continues to adapt to its environment. When I reach the end of the pack, I am left with one M&M, the strongest of the herd. Since it would make no sense to eat this one as well, I pack it neatly in an envelope and send it to M&M Mars, A Division of Mars, Inc., Hackettstown, NJ 17840-1503 U.S.A., along with a 3×5 card reading, “Please use this M&M for breeding purposes.” This week they wrote back to thank me, and sent me a coupon for a free 1/2 pound bag of plain M&Ms. I consider this “grant money.” I have set aside the weekend for a grand tournament. From a field of hundreds, we will discover the True Champion. There can be only one.

This game brought me hours of joy as a kid, and I am now able to play it with my daughter together! She is less than 2, so the story itself isn't clicking quite yet, but some of the minigames within it are easy to play with toddlers, and keeps them engaged and loving animals. I already loved this game before, but this connection I can make now with my daughter is extra special.
