Putt-Putt Enters the Race is a Junior Adventure in which Putt-Putt helps the main acts of a circus get ready for the show. This point-and-click adventure game aimed at children features simple inventory puzzles and a few minigames.
Putt-Putt is traveling to the circus in Apple Valley when a goat eats his ticket! The circus train offers to give him a ride so he can try and figure out a way to see the show without a ticket — and he arrives to find the circus in disarry! Ringmaster B. J. Sweeney recruits him to help out, and so Putt-Putt must help out the main acts of Honko the Clown, Philippe the Flea, Reginald the Lion, Katie Cannonball, and the Flying Porkowskis — and probably every other act in the circus as well.

Ahh so many good memories with these humongous games. Free games cd-rom in a cereal box... damn these were great times! Nostalgia With These Till I Die!
Played a lot of this one as a kid, I think I liked the circus aesthetics a lot. Now a days, I see it as a weaker entry of the series, not bad by any means, its still fun but doesn't hit the same as the others.
I liked this game, despite it having a few hiccups.
For example, unlike Travels Through Time and Enteres The Race, it has no item randomization, a step-back gameplay vise. But I do think despite that its a fun first playthrough, almost feels like Freddi Fish 5 in terms of gameplay(but easier). it feels long enough, and you get to see tons of characters, heck even two characters who tell jokes felt the most funny duo compared to all other Putt Putt games.
Not much to say, if you enjoyed previous two Putt Putt games in the timeline, you'll mostly enjoy this one as well

This is one of the Putt-Putt games I had as a kid. It was cool then and now to see some returning characters and meet a whole new cast of new faces.
One thing that did stick out to me now and then was Putt-Putt himself. His voice changed. Granted, this isn't the first game where that occurred--that was Putt-Putt Enters the Race, but I didn't have that one as a kid. So, back then, I just had to wonder why Putt-Putt sounded like a completely different person. Little did I know that the voice actors changed. Acclaimed voice actor Nancy Cartwright does a fine job filling in the shoes of Jason Ellefson, who was the child actor that had previously done the role. Still, it was jarring then, and it is a bit jarring now. Nothing I can't get beyond, but worth noting.
As far as the game itself goes, this one is deceptively straightforward. Pretty much everyone you meet has some thing they need help with, and doing so will put you closer to your goal. There aren't really a ton of completely optional things to do--though, there are a few. I didn't play this one nearly as much as the others growing up, and I think part of that had to do with the straightforward nature of this story...and perhaps a tad to do with the voice. Honestly, this is still a fun Putt-Putt game, but it just enjoyed the likes of Putt-Putt Travels Through Time and Putt-Putt Saves The Zoo more.
I guess it is probably also worth noting that this game's theme perhaps has not aged as well as the others. Circuses are not really popular anymore. This is especially the case for circuses that host animals. There are a lot of complex reasons for this that we don't really need to get into here, BUT it just serves the point that this one isn't nearly as timeless as the other games in its appeal. Regardless, in the Putt-Putt universe where everything is pretty cheery and most animals seem to be sentient and have jobs (even fleas), I guess, I suppose things work out for everyone involved and circuses are ok, actually.
At any rate, I would say this is a fine inclusion in the Putt-Putt catalog, and I [i]do[/i] have a lot of fond memories playing it. I recommend picking this up on sale, perhaps as part of the Putt-Putt Complete Pack or the Humongous Entertainment Complete Pack.

One of the best of the series. The game has had a visual glow-up, voice acting is strong and there's a varied cast of entertaining characters, mostly without re-use from earlier games. Puzzles feel somewhat meaningful, judged well for a game aimed at children.
A really good game that sorta feels like Save The Zoo in almost everyway so feels unoriginal at times.
Everything you did in Save The Zoo will be done here such as a middle path that branches into smaller ones, meeting the character you need to save then figure out the puzzle to help them etc however i feel the Festival Theme is done incredibly well, bursting with colour and charm that feels really nice to look at and it all feels consistent which is great.
Not the most original Putt Putt game but you're still going to have a great time regardless as they always nail the design and gameplay.
Putt-Putt Joins the Circus is honestly not one of Humongous Entertainment's better titles. For one thing, its plot is way too similar to Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo (in fact this game actually would have been called "Putt-Putt SAVES the Circus" until HE changed it). Also, this game lacks alternate puzzles that earlier HE games (including Putt-Putt Travels Through Time and Putt-Putt Enters the Race) had. The music and voice performances aren't very lively either. However, that doesn't mean this game is awful. There are still plenty of good features, like creating your own clown costume, making a power shake with fruits and vegetables, and searching for a flea that has moved in on a dancing bear. This game is no prizewinner, but it's pretty decent. Young children will still like it.

The last good-ish, for Putt-Putt standards at least (which means mainly for children and not so much for adults), entry, though there is not really anything special to this one compared to the rest (from "Putt-Putt: Saves the zoo" onwards).

Putt-Putt Joins the Circus is a family friendly point & click adventure game for children that I decided to play while drinking maybe too alcohol. While Putt-Putt is going to see a circus, which is in fact not too far just cross country, he gets roped into helping in get ready cause the owner sooo bad at his job that a child could do better. It was smooth sailing till I overlooked a path and got lost and confused for a bit, but no help required this time. Fun looking circus, feel like most of thier problems could have been solved with better communication skills, or like not taking each others stuff. Overall, drunk me had fun.

I am 31.
My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and adopted our son together. They are now both 4 years old.
When we were going through our separation, I found myself lost and miserable. I was self destructive. I got so mad one day from everything spiraling out of my control that I punched some concrete in a moment of overwhelming emotion. That caused me to break my 5th metacarpal in my right hand... my working hand... my games hand.. the hand that I held and carried my children to bed with.. The hand I desperately needed to make sure I could continue to provide.
After learning of the severity of my self-inflicted damage, I was borderline suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man with no history of depression or anxiety. I have never had fits of rage, or been one to break down and cry, but I was in a low spot that just really buried me from being able to see the light on the other side.
Having nothing better to do, I searched for a game I could play, ONE HANDED while I recovered. I somehow stumbled upon this game and read some of the reviews. I decided that it had to be worth a shot... I must admit, I didn't beat the game too many times, or play nearly as long as some of you. With that being said, after doing so, I had a new found joy and hope for life. I was able to put behind me the pain and suffering that had been cast over me. I was able to experience other peoples joy and happiness. I was able to see the fruits of my "labor". I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ minutes to this music long enough to realize that I was going to be okay.
After coming to that realization, I turned the game off, and I went back to work. It hurt my hand like hell but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so damn sorry for myself, and I became the father I needed to be in that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving as.
Today, I am close friend with my kids mother. We don't fight, or argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents, and friends.
I now have 3 kids. My third child is, wait for it, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my own separation, and we just stumbled in to each others life unexpectedly. We have been in a relationship for a year now, and are very happy together.
Moral of the story, you never know what life holds in store for you, and if I would have given up when all the odds were stacked against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

Best characters of all the Putt-Putt games
Putt-Putt 6 (aka Putt-Putt Joins The Circus) is an ancient collection of childrens minigames made using the ScummVM engine. The minigames have a circus/carnival games theme and feature various Putt-Putt universe characters. The minigames are wrapped in a LucasArts style ScummVM point and click adventure game veneer.
There's nothing wrong with the general idea, but this game is over 25 years old, it's ancient. 4:3, fixed resolution (looks like VGA). Weirdly, the devs have patched it from time to time, but this is really like putting lipstick on the skeleton of a pig that died long ago. I know that's not all that nice to say, but these guys are charging $7.00 USD for this, when you can play free educational games for kids, with much higher quality, in browsers or mobile, so how could anyone consider paying for this?
This is just some attempt to cash in on some old abandoned kids game. It's really not cool.
Kids just don't know how miserable their lives are now adays without putt-putt. They watch bluey or whatever but don't play putt-putt and pajama sam... shame.

Truly a masterpiece of a bygone era. I can't tell you how much this game has impacted me, emotionally and spiritually. Forget Halo, Overwatch, DOOM and the rest. Bartholomew Bart's Peanut Challenge is the best first person shooter experience available. Ask yourself, "am I even a real gamer if I haven't achieved level 10 in the Peanut Challenge?" If you haven't, you need to buy Putt-Putt Joins the Circus immediately. The immersion is unmatched. The characters represent the worst and best part of ourselves. B.J. Sweeney is like a father to me and I owe a lot of who I am today to him. Also... ♥♥♥♥ that goat.
Putt-Putt Joins The Circus bucks a lot of the trends employed since the third game on and returns the series to a more predictable session akin to the first two games.
The above said, the art style of the third game on as well as some of the characters from the Zoo return - not to mention a lot of the cameos from other games too.
I have to say that I liked a lot of the games and their presentation. Out of all the Putt-Putt games I believe this was likely the one best suited to the youngest of children. All the games seemed to work fine too.
I wouldn't say it is a title that will hold a kids attention for more then a session or two but By this point in the series it is unlikely kids will want to be playing it more then that I think.

The nostalgia is real. I was gifted then entire bundle of all the Humongous games and replaying them has been amazing. Even after all this time they still hold up. It'd be neat to get remastered versions of any of them.
If you have kids, it's totally worth every penny to get these for them. They'll love every one.

This is a game near and dear to my heart. I first played the Putt-Putt games, along with a few other Humongous titles, as a young child, and years later picked up the entire collection to some day share with my family once young kids enter the picture. I still have fond memories of playing this game with my brother on our father's Windows 95 machine, and decided to boot the game up for a nostalgia trip. I have to say, the production value of these games is such that I have no doubt in their ability to capture a child's attention just as well today as they did 25 years ago. Humongous did a fantastic job with their sprite work, drawing such extensive animations, that even accounting for the lack of antialiasing and upscaling to fit a 1440p display, the bright colors and engaging characters carry the day.
Further enhancing the engagement value of this game, Humongous did a fantastic job of making nearly everything on-screen at any time clickable, giving children a myriad of options with which to hold their attention. Further, the voice acting, nearly unheard of for a game of this vintage, adds massive appeal for non-reading children. The only shortcoming I can see, and it is one that speaks to the age of the game, is the lack of accessibility options for the hearing impaired.
I would expect these titles to engage a child in their targeted age range just as well as newer, 3D offerings. I enjoyed my trip down memory lane, and feel confident recommending this title to any parent looking for wholesome, engaging entertainment for their child.

Putt-Putt® Joins the Circus is a decent game for kids. It will take you an hour to beat the game but for younger kids I could see it taking two to three depending on how how much they like to click things. Its nice and colorful, the music is serviceable and gets that circus theme down. The game is wholesome and is good family entertainment. Whether I recommend this game really comes down to your age. If its for someone who is 11 or younger then sure I'd give it a buy especially if they like clicking on things. For everyone else if you have an hour to kill then sure, just buy it on sale.

Putt Putt joins the circus is voice acted and features plenty of animations around the game to interact with. The interactivity does not feature puzzles but there is a logical sequence to follow for progress and there is sometimes no inherent feedback on whats required. There are multiple items and a non blind run is somewhere around an hour. Guides are often required for games of this era and subgenre. Altogether it may or may not fit with a very small niche of young gamers but it is not quite worth keeping on display in permanent library and is best kept archived. The thematic itself was harmless and not very educational in and of itself. Good manners and an upbeat can do attitude is that of the car. You get plenty a chance to talk to an anthropomorphic animal that talks. Do a few errands and explore the hub-shaped environments like the typical game from this dev. Has some annoying backtracking and guesswork. Progress is obtained in this series by items that unlock more things to access. Usually through fetch quest type actions and the occasional kleptomanic random collecting.
when i was a small child this game was one of my first pc games along side Pyjama Sam: no need to hide when its dark. the silly little details are just as i remember, such as a possum hanging down a branch punching a punching ball having it explode in his face the him climbing back up or matching the animal tail/leg with the head. the game is just as great as i remember and is full of charm the whole way through. my final score for this game is a FULL: 10/10 it might be a childrens game but even if you buy this on your steam account its still as fun as a twenty year old plus adult. with charms that lasts the ages. i can say without hesitation. this is a HUGE recommendation. WOWIE ZOWIE!!!

Nostalgic
I remember playing the demo as a kid. Is it the best in the library, no, but as a short game I would recommend for how quick you can play it.
Really well designed game with a very good translation to Dutch. My 4 y/o was able to finish this game all by himself (no hints from me). It took him many many sittings (total about 10 hours).
The game is designed in such a way that it kept him from getting frustrated by not finding a solution. I think because you can click all these things that make random stuff happen, he would just keep exploring.

I know this game like the back of my hand. I got it on a disc in a cereal box when I was about 6 or 7 and played the hell out of it I used to beat this game multiple times in one sitting sometimes but as an adult putt putt just doesn’t hold up like other humongous entertainment games the characters are annoying it has no challenge what so ever its boring and stale unless your under 10 I’d pass on it.
