Putt-Putt Travels Through Time

In this Junior Adventure, Putt-Putt must travel through time to rescue his dog Pep and retrieve his lunchbox, calculator, and history report. This was the first Putt-Putt game to have multiple paths — the missing objects could be in one of four locations, meaning there could be different puzzles on different playthroughs.

Storyline

Putt-Putt drops by Mr. Firebird's lab before school to show him his history report, lunchbox, and calculator. There, he is amazed to discover that Mr. Firebird has invented a time machine — and horrified when an accident sucks his school supplies, and his dog Pep, into the machine, scattering them through time and space. Putt-Putt must therefore use the time machine and travel to four periods — the age of the dinosaurs, the Middle Ages, the Wild West, and the far future — to retrieve them.

Wordt eigenlijk voorgesteld voor kinderen tot 6 jaar maar mijn dochter heeft net het eerste spel gespeeld en is er toch 3u zoet mee geweest (het was zo goed als haar eerste ervaring met spelletjes waarbij je op onderzoek moet uitgaan, dus daar kun je zeker rekening mee houden). Om je spel te bewaren druk je eender wanneer in het spel op de 'B'-toets. Om een bewaard spel terug op te roepen druk je op de 'R'-toets.

It feels really good to finally beat a game I've owned since childhood but never actually rolled credits on. You see, as a kid, I wasn't actually all that concerned with finding Putt-Putt's school supplies and I would instead just hang out with the dinosaurs and Wheel in the prehistoric era because I liked how Wheel would call him "Putt" and give him primordial soup.

HUGE fan of Putt-Putt starting every conversation with "I've come from the future/past!" by the way. Good thing everyone else is such a good sport about it and don't try to burn him as a witch.

I recently learned that all my childhood Humongous Entertainment faves (Putt-Putt, Spy Fox, Pajama Sam) were on Steam, so when I got my new gaming laptop, I decided to christen it with a playthrough of this classic. Great fun, with nice educational touches like a minigame where you practice addition and the fact that Putt-Putt reads aloud any text you click. Also, half the environment is clickable, activating little animations of bugs and lizards and critters running around. I don't think I even knew about half of those as a kid. Perfectly good game to have your child play or run through for nostalgia's sake.

Seems like that itchy dinosaur enjoys your ministrations a lot for a kids' game, but I think that segment is also educational in that it's modeling consent and communication in a physical relationship. This is an excellent way to introduce your child to concepts that will help them in the future.

Don't get me started on the color purple... never explained, never justified, yet absoulte and focal. A color historically reserved for royalty, divinity, and authority. Putt-Putt exists as both chosen and alienated, sacred and absurd. Even more unsettling is the player’s ability to alter this color, acting as an implicit question of identity: if the self can be recolored, what remains essential? What, truly, is Putt-Putt? [b]When[/b] is Putt-Putt?

What does such an experience leave you with?
A burden of truth, a distrust of those who fail to grasp temporal responsibility, and a revelation of the consequences shaped by ignorance.

My 4 year old loves this. Reminds me of those Jumpstart Windows 98 style games. well, cuz it is.

This one is very cool in that you can replay it, and it changes every time. The 4 items you have to find get hidden in randomized spots, requiring new puzzles. So the replay value is huge. Plus my kid feels like she is mastering it over time instead of being constantly confused.

Another good Putt Putt game, and it has all the positives of Humongous Entertainment games, good music, oozing with charm, still tons of items to click on to see animations.

I like how the premise is once again something non mundane, traveling through time, but I do feel as though the concept wasn't fully utilized, especially in the dinosaurs and future portals where there's barely any point and click adventuring. Also wish we heard more facts about each setting, even Putt Putt Saves the Zoo had more fun trivia than this game xd.

And again, while games are still charming, they aren't even remotely hard point and click adventures due to being targeted for kids(even more so then other games in Humongous Entertainment library) so do keep that in mind.

But if you enjoyed Putt Putt games so far, you'll enjoy this one as well, gotta be top 3-5 best Putt Putt games probably.

[b]Wham BOOM BLAM boing![/b] - Literally the first line of the 'ABOUT THIS GAME' section.

This was one of my favorites growing up--at least for Putt-Putt games. If you only play through it once, though, you'll probably come away thinking it is fairly simple and straightforward. This is in large part because the game is highly replayable with [i]many[/i] different possibilities as far as what items end up where and how you get them. It is really neat and a large reason why I played this [i]so much[/i] growing up. That said, that does mean you might get a run where one of the four historical settings has less to do. This is just a case of bad luck in what the game rolled up for you. But hey, play it again and see how things changed. Honestly, this is the one game where it makes the most sense to play it multiple times and get different paths given the whole time travel angle...I suppose that might also imply that Putt-Putt and co are stuck in a timeloop that is, in a meta sense, the game we are playing.....

Yeah, so, anyways, Mr. Firebird should be locked up, right? This is the second time he's endangered a child, except this time he also endangered the entire space-time continuum by letting this [i]child[/i] travel through time [i]unsupervised.[/i] Kid was going around showing medieval peasants magical oil and driving over all sorts of other butterflies...Actually, I want to talk about the oil thing for a second. Not to sound conspiratorial, but if I found out that these H.E. games were sponsored by Big Oil back in the day I would not be shocked AT ALL. This is yet another game where oil appears as some kind of magical, rust destroying substance. It doesn't work like that!

Whatever. In fairness, living cars probably have a different view on fossil fuels than us. Also...they are [b]car[/b]toons.

This game is very enjoyable and highly replayable, and kinda needs to be replayed to get the full value out of it. The characters are fun for kids. There's several little minigames in here as well. The puzzles you solve are also reasonably interesting, and the variability definitely kept my interest as a kid.

I [i]highly[/i] recommend picking this up on sale either through the Putt-Putt Complete Pack or the Humongous Entertainment Complete Pack.

It's super cute, with 24 possible ways to reach the ending, so good luck to finding them all. It's a pity it is old and has no achievements, but I see a bunch of possibilities for it. It is totally worth the money if you are a PnC fan.

Edit: I couldn't figure out controls for the Steam Deck so I had to buy on the Switch. I would get it on Switch instead if you want to play it on the go the controls are better.

While the premise didn't sound all that interesting to me at first, as I played this game I started to like it more and more.

It's a big improvement over the previous three games. It's an adventure game, just like Putt-Putt 1, 2, 3. However, this one has four time periods, it doesn't have heavy-handed 'click on this to learn about this animal' stuff like Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo, and while kids playing this game probably won't learn anything extremely deep, the vaguest introductions to a lot of different things (the Jurassic period, the medieval age, 1800s 'Old West' America, and uh... basic addition) I think are probably going to be a lot more helpful to children to introduce them to various concepts without overloading them. Good stuff on that front.

It's also just a better, stronger game in my book. I think that the puzzles for the most part are not too complex or anything, but you're encouraged to step into all the different time periods to explore and find items and such, so that kind of naturally elongates the playtime of the game. Not by too much, especially if you're an adult, because you'll probably quickly realize what kind of structure the game has, especially if you're familiar with... I don't know, adventure games in general.

Going along with some of the other Humongous games (one of the Pajama Sam games has a reference to 'Grapes of Wrath') this game also has some bizarre literary references, like '1984x4' and 'The Great Gas B'. I don't think any child would EVER begin to understand that these are in fact references, so I'm not sure what they're there for except to make any adult in the vicinity chuckle and shake their head in disbelief if they happen to glance at the screen.

I'm basically done talking about the game, really, there's not much to it, but I think that the graphics this time around looked better than Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo which was the previous title, despite a few weird creepy faces here and there.

This game as far as I could tell also eased up on the weird self-referential product placement that was surprisingly prevalent in Putt-Putt Saves the Zoo, there was none that I could find. I didn't even see a Fatty Bear cameo which was seen in I think all three of the previous Putt-Putt games that I can recall. It's possible I just missed it in this one, but either way, I was pleased.

Overall, definitely a good game. I don't know who I would really recommend it to, maybe if you have very young children, like 5-7 or something like that, but I ended up kind of laughing at some of the dialogue, scenarios, and some other stuff, so maybe even adults might get something out of this. Not a lot, since it didn't even take me 2 hours to get through it, and I was going at a leisurely pace and trying out all the minigames on the side, but hey.

I'm always a sucker for a time-travel plot, though clearly this a very basic implementation. Fun characters, just a touch of puzzle-solving complexity and the interaction between the four worlds is used sensibly without feeling too much like meaningless errands.

The best Putt Putt game, despite never playing it before nor growing up with it.

Everything the other games did, this did it better and travelling through each portal to grab bits and pieces of a puzzle to solve in another era makes it really fun, engaging and interesting as it's the first time the series as done this which they nailed perfectly.

Many unique characters from different era's to meet, easy yet satisfying puzzles, great relaxing soundtrack, multiple playthroughs and overall just a very memorable and fun game.

Putt-Putt is an amazing game to pass the time. The 90's kind of style is through the roof which I love and I know it's from '97 but it's genuinely not bad at all! Getting to the end and getting all the items was so rewarding when it happened I felt like I had just won life.

Putt-Putt Travels Through Time is a wonderful treat for children! In his biggest adventure, Putt-Putt must search for all of his school supplies and Pep after they get sucked into Mr. Firebird's new time machine! There are four different eras to explore: the Age of the Dinosaurs, the Medieval Times, the Old West, and the Future! Each item is hidden somewhere in each of those eras, but players should keep in mind that more than one item will never be seen in the same era. If you are a parent of small children reading this review, I strongly suggest you get this for them, because there are a bunch of useful educational elements in this game, take my word for it!

For Putt-putt standards, this is quite a high concept game and with "Putt-Putt goes to the Moon" the second and last entry that has a none ordinary gimmick.
So it is unsurprising that, with the quality of the series peaking in this one, it will only go down hill from here on out.

Growing up, this game was the peak of Humongous Entertainment for me. The sheer anticipation of coming home everyday after school and hoping on my parents computer to save Pep for the fiftieth time was unlike anything I had experienced. Going back to it as an adult, I found so much more to appreciate. The animation and voice acting are superb. The music is some of Jeremy Soule's best work as a composer. The variety of locations and replay-ability in the randomization of where your items end up leaves you always coming back for more. This is the Gold Standard in terms of edutainment. Incredibly engaging and educational in an organic and natural way that feels so fun to play. If you had these games like I did as a kid, grab whatever bundle you can find. I got the entire Humongous Catalog that's available here and it was well worth it.

I was just a kid when I discovered the beauty of the puttputt series.

It's ahead of it's time. Puttputt truly is a non-binairy icon. Just like Freddy FIsh.
Freddy is a girl, did you know? We assume everything is male because we live in a patriarchal society. Think about it.
Be better.

Anyways. What is time? Can a car truly travel through it. It's a common fantasy.

The part where puttputt scratches the dinosaur was my first introduction to ASMR. God, I wish someone would do that to me. I'm so itchy.

Somehow this game is very difficult to me. And don't get me wrong, I'm not stupid. No, I'm not stupid at all. I used to speedrun puttputt saves the zoo, before I even knew what speedrunning was. I used to make my brother run to the kitchen microwave to see the time. I think my record is about three minutes, but it's hard to know for sure.

I guess that's all I have to say.

Before this i have never played a Putt-Putt game, and i gotta say this was a lot of fun. Probably more fun then it has any right to be. For starters it's an educational 90s Point and Click game with a really cool cartoony aesthetic and graphical look which holds up really well today. The game has puzzles but they are very easy and nothing too hard. Most people will finish the game without any difficulties i assume. But i was kinda stunned how a educational game from the 90s is still fun despite being educational. It has voice acting which helps and everything feels great. Like it's fun to explore and see what the game has to show you. Sure it's all simplified and meant for kids but i still would recommend this game regardless. I am not the target demographic and i had a lot of fun exploring in this game and seeing how the small yet compact story progress and i think in the end if you go into this accepting it for what it is you can have fun and enjoy the experience. It's like playing through an episode of a cartoon i would say because everything is so fluid and well executed. Needless to say this is a gem from the past that does enough to make me happy i played this and have completed my first Putt Putt game and i am happy to play more of them in the future since they all seem to have their own theme which i would assume would be quite interesting to explore.

Игра моего детства. Когда в доисторические времена, я поиграла в эту игру на диске, он вроде ещё остался, тогда мне просто крышу снесло с длины игры и с её качества. Сейчас я могу сказать, только то, что английский тут на уровне аудирования на уроке английского языка. Также всё пердит, акцент просто пушка и звук наслаждение для ушей. Для ребёнка -5 лет - эти загадки были чем-то сложным, на уровне квантовой физики. А для взрослого и состоятельного человека, эти загадки на уровне математического уравнения за 5 класс. Много чего здесь интересного, но и много факапов. Но для игры 90-х - это сказка. В общем, могу сказать только одно, игра хорошая, но уж слишком для детей, игра с сюжет, но не поймёшь и половину слов. Игра с графикой и весьма хорошей графикой, что на то время, что и в наше время. Игра заставила вернуться меня в то время, когда я ещё думать не умела, что даже заставило меня улыбнуться. 10 из 10 слёз деда!

Putt putt travels through time was a game from my childhood, I played on disc when I was around the age of 5. I never thought id be able to play this game again but since it's on steam I felt like I got to relive some of my best childhood moments. This game is amazing for everyone I would highly recommend it!!! Especially if you have kiddos it will leave them with amazing memories and even teach them interesting topics.

{Drunk SeriesSeries Review}
Man, the Putt-Putt Series really goes hard, he goes from a parade to the moon to time travel. Mr. Firebird, who I'm convinced gives off Elon Musk vibs, closes down the Firework Factory probably for safety reasons, sending a child into space was probably bad PR. He now runs a R&D Lab, and has made a time window.... which breaks and sends Putt-Putt's school things and his dog, who should be dead 10x over now, back in time. I like that Putt-Putt's main concern is that he lost his school stuff and not the possible damage to the space time that his supplies could/will cause. It's cool with the 4 different time periods you travel to. It's also weird how the past people know what some things are even through they weren't invented yet. Drunk me had a blast, and still didn't have a difficult time getting through it.

Putt-Putt 4 (aka Putt-Putt Travels Through Time) is an ancient collection of childrens minigames wrapped up by a point and click adventure game made using the ScummVM engine.

There's nothing wrong with the general idea, but this game is over 25 years old, it's ancient. 4:3, fixed resolution (looks like VGA). Weirdly, the devs have patched it from time to time, but this is really like putting lipstick on the skeleton of a pig that died long ago. I know that's not all that nice to say, but these guys are charging $7.00 USD for this, when you can play free educational games for kids, with much higher quality, in browsers or mobile, so how could anyone consider paying for this?

This is just some attempt to cash in on some old abandoned kids game. It's really not cool.

Am I an adult who had to look up a walkthrough for this game? Perhaps..... But boy do I love it. The theme song gets wildly stuck in my head. Nostalgia for sure. Also those chewy wagon wheels are a part of my psyche permanently and have been since I saw them many years ago.
