i played this game when i was young and it is just as engaging as i remember and it requires you to use that brain power and overall engaging.
it is a littl e frustrating when you dont know what youre missing in order to move foward in the story but when you finally figure it out - bliss!
good
One of my favorites of the series! LOTS of puzzles and codes.
One of the best ND games <3
This is one of my favorite Nancy Drew games because if feels like you have more freedom than you do with how many different types of mini games there are. However, the ending leaves something to be desired. Those who have played this game know what that something is.
Action packed with fun puzzles. Takes a lot of patience, however, as many clues only reveal themselves later in the game! We were immersed in Scotland's rich history, a fun place for Nancy to be led to. Some of the story line is slightly hard to understand, though.
I played these games a lot as a kid. This one was quite good as an adult-- good story, difficult puzzles. One of the better Nancy Drew games :)
The puzzles are are challeneging, but not to hard were you lose the fun
I loved it and I am playing again.

Not the worst Nancy Drew game - there are some charming elements, like the visuals, character interactions, and setting. The positives are overshadowed by poor pacing, under cooked mystery, and frustrating puzzle design. It's a shame!!!!!
So this was a tough one. The plot was exciting and it was interesting getting to know more about Nancy's childhood and her mom. There was no lack of puzzles and riddles to figure out! Honestly had to cheat my way through several of them. The zip lining was one of my favorite parts. This game made really good use of the different spaces from the train stations to the hotel rooms. I would recommend this game if you're looking for a game that will really make you think. I give the story a 3/5 and the scare factor a 1/5.
feels like old nancy. puzzles are very fun
I loved the storyline! It was like all of the nostalgia from the whole series coming back to me -- questions answered that long time fans have been curious about. If you've been a Nancy Drew lover -- you'll love this one!
Love the puzzles in this one!
Classic Nancy Drew game. Good puzzles. (Some good, but illogical. But who cares, right?) The story is captivating, the characters are not too many but distinctive enough.
A bit bland at times, but solid. I would recommend it.
Great game. Very doable. I appreciated that I could skip through conversations. Good hints.
I am not qualified to stop terrorism with tartan patterns. :'(
best game of the series imo
Does not work sufficiently on Windows 11 - played about half way through then crashed constantly and was unplayable and no refund issued.
I did not enjoy this game. It was so bland and shallow that it felt like a mobile game. The pacing, character conversations, and mechanics were destroyed by gaping plot holes. The puzzles were easy just tedious. I knew better than to play a newer Nancy Drew. Do yourself a favour and go replay one of the classics.
I LOVE IT!!!!!
Hadn't played Nancy Drew in a while and jumped back in with this one; loved the story, the puzzles were really cool, fun mechanics... It was a bit heavy on the reading but I could deal with it considering how invested I was. Overall: Great stuff!!
I know this is going to sound conspirical and all...but the "colony virus" seems suspiciously similar to the "corona virus", doesn't it?
Everyone should play this game, and pay close attention to what Ewan says.
Great game!
Telling my kids this game is why we need password managers.
I have played Nancy Drew games since I was 6 years old, and I love this series a lot. Sadly, I cannot faithfully recommend this or any other of the newer ND games because of how buggy they are. I purchased this game, played a bit, then tried to save and it crashed. I looked up tips online, followed them, and tried again. Still no go. It still cannot save on my computer, and I'm just so tired of trying at this point.
Many people online agree that the newer games have consistent issues similar to this, and it never is addressed. I think the company as a whole has phoned it in.
Codes, codes, and more codes. There were so many puzzles in this one, I really enjoyed but but they were very tricky most of the time. Play this when you can!! It got a little slow for me because I'm not the best at puzzles and codes so it took a while to realize what I should do next, but I loved all the different locations and the mini game to make money.
НЕ скучайте играть
I have played Nancy Drew games since I was about nine and this one is definitely interesting. The plot kept me invested, and discovering more about Nancy, her mother, and their relationship gave this a very personal feel. It certainly feels memorable.
Writing this review a week or two after playing I do admit that no one puzzle stands out to me as particularly good or bad, however, they never felt as if they were chores or disconnected from the story, so that is a win for me.
This one is one of the best Nancy Drew games story wise, and though I might have enjoyed seeing more of Scotland, it made sense that we didn't given the gravity and consuming nature of the plot. Overall I would recommend this game; though I will say playing a few other Nancy Drew games first might be best if you are new to the series, if only because it makes the characters, plot, and motivations matter more.
A great game!
Pros:
-The cookie making and shopping for food and souvenirs is fun
-The puzzles are really engaging, challenging but doable
-The story line is interesting having to due with mama Drew's death
-Train station travel with ticket system is nice and fast
Cons:
-Got stuck often because there was not a clear direction of what to do next. Even after talking to everyone and calling everyone on the phone I still didn't have an idea about which puzzle to go for next. Finally had to look up a walkthrough.
-The story is a little confusing and wordy at times. Hard to understand all the company's and there is a lot of papers and letters to read that aren't relevant to the puzzles we are solving.
This is more of a fast-moving game than others. There is less conversational tasks, you get to jump right into the action and the plot of the game. It is a different storyline that has a darker side to some of Nancy's past and her family and friends. For instance, it includes some flashbacks to Nancy's childhood; it even humanized her parents showing that they argued and had their own disagreements. So far, it has had a good balance of places to explore, puzzles to solve, and different people to get to know/snoop on.
This was a fun and surprising story. Exciting. If you like James Bond and other spy stuff, get this game
Cookie-making was the most fun part of the game, I played it so many times I lost count.
This is one of the most boring Nancy Drew games. And you’ll get stuck a lot too, wondering what to do next. I had to refer to walkthroughs several times just so I know what I was supposed to do next to get the story going. The plot/storyline is uninteresting, I skipped reading so many of the information Nancy found because it was so confusing and boring.
On the plus side I guess we got a bit closer to knowing how Nancy looks like?
Just added to my list of favorites!
I really enjoyed the story of this one! The puzzles weren't my favorites, and I also do not understand how there can be a 'wrong cookie' lol, but I felt that completing them and earning money were adequate and it wasn't too tedious. I especially loved Zoe and the lore there too! While I probably won't ever replay this one, I did like being able to learn a little more about the Drews.
Good game. It doesnt properly communicate all the different things you can do at once and how those things are connected to each other, so play on amateur if you are new to the series.
Although I wouldn't recommend this one, it wasn't a terrible game. I liked how sentimental it was and loved the Scottish songs they slipped in. Other than that, it might be my least favorite in the series so far.
I like to take my time with the puzzles and there were just far too many that were timed, they also just weren't that fun to crack. The supporting characters were a bit lackluster, and the ones I was most interested in interacting with required the least amount of interaction :/ The constant honking in the background of one area was also driving me crazy.
Overall I don't think it hurts to have in your collection, but I'd opt for some other entries first.
Great gameplay and an especially heartfelt story line, one of the best I.M.O
Nancy Drew gets conned into flying to Scotland to solve the mystery of her mother's death, which she never mentions to anyone ever, did you know that her mom died? Get sucked into a biowarfare extravaganza while violating all food safety laws by making cookies whenever you need some fast cash.
Nancy arrives in Glasgow and promptly allows all of her belongings to be stolen from her. To fix this, she asks a randomly appearing strange man to help her, gathers no contact info from him and leaves the train station without another thought. What bliss!
Meet a cast of characters who will not be honest with you pretty much the whole game but give you plenty of opportunities to bring up your dead mother. Get yelled at for trying to learn more about aforementioned dead mother from your golfball father Carson who helpfully, with clearly a lot of forethought, destroyed any and all leads Nancy could have used to help her while Nancy was but a youth.
Struggle with disassociation as you randomly enter Flashback Mode where you can relive your snarky preteen years by witnessing your petty arguments with your soon-to-be dead mother, Kate Drew. Who, to be fair, is really dodgy and is well on her way to giving Nancy separation anxiety by popping off to another country without warning.
Unfortunately a lot of the environments in this game are very limited in terms of interaction and navigability. Didn't take too much away, but I promise you will get tired of being Scotland's #1 supporter of public transit after a while.
For the most part, progression through this game is mostly intuitive and the puzzles are decent, some more fun than others. The bagpipe can burn in hell but nothing was overly frustrating. The story line is a a little unusual and tedious at times, but I'd still recommend this game to any ND fan.
Nancy Drew in Scotland.
Honestly, not surprised that this game is not well liked, the story is rushed and doesn't make much sense. It seems to be leading somewhere and has no conclusion for Nancy's personal life.
If you want to check it off your mystery list though go for it!
Challenging but not frustrating puzzles. Good storyline.
Sup this game is really cool and I think that you guys would love it.
Nancy goes to Scotland to try and solve the mystery of her mom's last case. I very much enjoyed the game, which has all the typical stuff we expect from ND. I enjoyed the new characters and the puzzles. As usual there's a minigame to make some money, there's a lot of travel back-and-forth, but generally it's easy enough to figure out the next step. Whenever I got stuck is because i hadn't thoroughly examined a place.
The only weird bits were some of the character interactions, especially between Nancy and her dad, and some of the flashbacks made me wonder why adults were acting like children. Nancy and her dad definitely could use some therapy by the sound of things... Woudl recommend, it took me 7 hours to finish, you can judge if you want to pay full price for that or not. (i waited for a sale)
fun
Enfin un peu d'histoire sur la famille Drew ! Un de mes préférés
One of the more boring games of the series. Most of the clues you collect aren't even usable until the end of the game. NPCs are never there when you need them to be, and you have to do such minute tasks to bring em back (like calling Carson and telling him about Moira so she appears again). Thank god I had the option to skip through dialogue; all of the NPCs were forgettable and Nancy asks them the dumbest questions possible.
I beat it! OMG SO SO SO FUN!!!! 10/10!!!! Loved it ssssssoooooo Much!!!
My absolute favorite Nancy Drew game! Some games in the franchise are lighthearted, some are scary, but this one is neither. It's suspenseful and has an emotional depth you wouldn't expect. The puzzles aren't crazy-intense, either, which is nice because nothing ruins a game more than a frustrating puzzle.
This is only the third Nancy Drew game I've played and I almost feel bummed out because it was so good that I don't know how any of the other ND games will top it. The spy stuff was really fun and the in-game hint system was great. Mainly, though, the fact that it touches on Nancy's mom and her relationships with Nancy, Nancy's dad, and even her friends is both really interesting and deeply poignant.
Great puzzles and great storytelling. Easily one of my top 10 Nancy games!
An amazing nancy drew game, especially if youve grown up with the games. The story being closely tied to nancy herself for once leads to a more emotional climax in certain scenes, and honestly makes it an excellent end to the series if youre going through them all and want a satisfying stopping point. Would definitely recommend anyone who's interested in the series play a few of the other games first though
Every Nancy Drew game has intriguing characters and fun puzzles! I can play them over and over and never get tired of them!
The game was great, the puzzles were challenging as always and the after-credits "bloopers" were a fun addition!
Great story. Great puzzles. Great characters. Completely recommend!!
Silent Spy is above average. The puzzles were tricky and enjoyable. I felt the story was paced well, but 3/4 characters were truly unbelievable. In particular, the other "spy" character acted like a 8-year-old pretending to be a spy. The map is also one of the smaller ones. I had a lot of fun though, so thumbs up all the way!
fun and definitely full of puzzles
Good entry in the series. Nancy is lured to Scotland with a promise of information about her mother's death years earlier. When she gets there, she ends up trying to sort out a terrorist plot. Good puzzles, some fun characters, and maybe one or two sentimental moments. It doesn't nail the sense of "Scotland" the way some entries capture their locations (I don't count a single food stand with haggis as truly capturing life in Glasgow) but the mystery itself is very suspenseful and the unfolding backstory of Nancy's mother gives a certain extra depth to the story. I wouldn't suggest this as the first Nancy Drew game to play, if you've never played one before. But with more than 30 games in the series, if you were only going to try five, make this one of them.
Cool game! Cooler puzzles! However, brain hurts. :(
i've had about 14 years of history with this series, which makes this one feel so much more special than it would if it were my first ND game. honestly? play a few others first (try the highest rated ones), then alibi in ashes, and THEN this one. it's still a good standalone game, but it's a GREAT instalment in an ongoing series. being familiar with the characters and world makes the story so much stronger.
as for the puzzles and story advancement, they're fun. i hated the one with the grid of letters and the glass panels tho lol. i like that you can opt in to "helping" the bad guys in exchange for more info. this game is genuinely tense and exciting in terms of pacing and anticipation.
i rate it 9/10, only because there are a few critical hotspots that are hard to see and i would've been stuck for a lot longer if not for having accidentally moused over them, like a few locks/keypads hidden in the dark for example. sooooo frustrating! need better visibility. everything else is fantastic.
I'm playing my way through all of the ND games, and I suspect most people reading this review are too, regardless of reviews! But here are my thoughts anyway.
I have complex thoughts on this one. there were some things that were done so extremely well, and others that really could have been improved upon. starting with the good - this game adds so much depth to nancy's character, as well as her relationships with her dad, boyfriend, and mother of course. yes, we get to learn more about nancy's mother, but i think it's more important to get to see how nancy reacts to the knowledge she gains throughout the game. at the end, onions were definitely being chopped, i don't think another ND game has made me cry! the resolutions that nancy comes to regarding her mother's death and her own grief were really meaningful, and the VA's voice acting was especially excellent in this title.
regarding improvements...i really felt like they could have made better use of the location. it's scotland, and it feels like you get to see precious few scraps of locations that are definitively scotland - everywhere else, you wouldn't be able to tell where in the world it was taking place. there are several questions/observations raised by nancy about the situation that never get answered, and not in a wistful wondering way - in a genuine, plot hole sort of way. i loved the characters with the exception of the antagonist, i felt as if he could've been developed more and given more of a motive than 'lonely and sad' lol.
that being said, i did enjoy the spy theme/gadgets of this game and it has a good mark in my book overall!!
Love the new nancy drew graphics! I have always played and this game was so smooth and well paced!
easily one of my favorite nancy drew games, i really loved the story!!
One of my favorite Nancy Drew games I've played so far!
this ♥♥♥♥ slaps
Really liked the story and the game is just full of easter eggs!
Love the puzzles, characters, traveling, art, story -- its the best!
great story and good puzzles
Was good, but not enough explosions 9.5/10
Personally didn't enjoy the gameplay. While the story about Nancy's mother was great, the gameplay didn't really make much sense and the final villain reveal was underwhelming. I also expected more exploring and spy work but not much of that happens in this game. The puzzles also don't work well together and did seem kind of random at times. Overall I would rate it a 5/10.
A very fun Nancy game! Me and my kids played together and had a blast! It was a very touching and compelling story. Some of the puzzles in this one is kinda hard, but we just pulled up a walkthrough and resorted to that when needed!
We love the animations of the newer more pricey Nancy games, and eagerly wait for them to go on sale! Make sure you pay attention during and after credits too! (:
One of my favorite games I have played. This is my second time playing it. I love hearing about Nancy's past and knowing her mother. The game was filled with puzzles and so many different twists and turns that had me on the edge of my seat. I recommend playing this game. I love it so much.
Game itself was good, but wasn't fond of the story.
I watched someone’s play through of this game almost 10 years ago when it was first released. I just bought this game recently and there are a lot of details I didn’t remember. Unfortunately I remembered who the culprit was, and like every story-based game, that kinda ruined my game play experience. But this is definitely one of the best Nancy Drew games
This one was okay, but it's definitely over praised as being the best Nancy Drew game. The plot of this game is to find out the truth of what happened to your mother while also being a spy, which sounds neat, but the execution is under cooked. You only ever explore maybe 2 areas with spy antics to a minimum. The game promises evil organizations and foiling evil plots but you don't ever really get that. The puzzles are fine and fun, but the plot is something to be desired.
I love that you can quicken the dialogue. I loved the format, loved the characters...probably my favorite so far if I am honest
fun
I've just started this game and all that I can think as I'm playing is how mind-shatteringly bad the attempts at Scottish accents are. Really, really bad. So bad they are totally distracting me from what is being said as I'm focusing on how its being said. It's like a mixture of Irish and bad eastern european. Honestly, Americans, stop trying to do Scottish accents: you can't do it and it's offensive. Game seems ok, but I'm not sure I can stand to continue. But, that's probably just me. If you're American, you probably won't even notice.
I've played so many of these games since I was a kid. This one knocked it out of the park and was a treat to play as a nostalgia-craving adult. The game's themes are more mature and personal. The writing is excellent with lots of witty humor and a surprising amount of political commentary. Every puzzle was challenging and fun to work through. Definitely my favorite game in the series.
The puzzles were challenging and fun as an amateur sleuther (lol). However, I was stuck a few times cuz it was difficult to find the items needed to crack Kate's puzzles. For instance, it took me a while to find the black archive, and noticed that I had more puzzles to solve in order to get to that step. Some hints were vague but I understand that they're trying to encourage the gamer to keep investigating. In terms of the price, I think this game should've cost $12 instead of $20 in my opinion. Also, reading the letters, dialogues, and books were kinda tedious personally. It didn't take that long to finish and the plot was interesting but left unanswered questions at the end for me.
In graphic adventures, the operative word is graphic! This game, while it has its merits, has waaaay too much text. If I want to read a mystery I buy a book.
This was one of favorites I've played. I was curious how it would be due to the mixed reviews, but I would definitely put this one towards the top for me. The story was interesting, I loved how they incorporated a more personal story line. The puzzles were fun, the characters were interesting, the drama between Nancy, Ned, and her dad was a nice added piece, and I loved how many areas you're able to explore. This one just had a lot going on and I love when ND games have that. This one was also a bit longer, which is something I constantly feel is lacking in the older games. I love how much they packed in to really make it worthwhile.
My favorite of the ND games... fun to play, good puzzles, story not true to books but I loved this game!
Game ran very smoothly. Other ones have crashed on me, but this one ran fairly smoothly with less bugs. Very fun!
Somewhere in top 5 ND games for me. Interesting puzzles, there are lots of them. Intimate glance into Nancy's family story. Very thrilling, loved it.
"A silent spy is a dead spy"
Puzzles are kind of overly complicated, not very intuitive. Seemed like even more running around than usual in an ND game too
Nancy drew a silent spy in short is a love letter to all the fans of previous Nancy drew game players. With subtle nods to past games, plot lines that heavily focus on your past friends and a mystery about Nancy's lost mother. I think this game is truly one of HER interactive best. It's simple but also intense, has the right amount of mystery with the right amount of moments to leave you excited for more.
To be honest the game made me cry several times, this feels like almost a send off to Nancy drew as a whole. Even though there was more games after it, this one felt like a final love letter. One thing I would argue is this game isn't welcoming to a random newcomer. If someone who hasn't played a single Nancy drew game picked this up I worry quite a lot would be missed. But if you're okay missing all the little references I'd recommend this highly. If you feel you're getting stuck the game will give you mini hints. But most puzzles do have easy ways of solving (if you're on amature).
I really say give this one a shot if you've only played a handful of ND games. Heck give it a shot if you haven't and you love a good mystery/puzzle game.
Definitely a go to game. has more puzzle compared to other ND at the same time not too difficult to solve.
Great storyline. The puzzles were enjoyable and not too tricky to figure. Some challenges with knowing what to do next (e.g., how to trigger cut scenes or which characters to interact with). Enjoyed it! Loved the backstory of Nancy's family as well.
I have been playing since the very first game came out, and this is my very favorite. Up there with Secret of the Old Clock and Message in a Haunted Mansion.
This was one of my favorite Nancy Drew games so far. I really enjoyed the story line and it wasn't so much of random puzzles leading you to the next clue compared to previous games. The "spy" setting is fun. The puzzles are challenging but not impossible.
Good Nancy Drew game - did use a walkthrough for some parts and it didn't seem like there was a whole lot to do but I did enjoy it!
ridiculous puzzles.
It's a good game. It isn't one of my favorite Nancy Drew games but it is good enough that I'm about to play it over again now for the second time.
This is a really great Nancy Drew game! Would definitely recommend it to other's who are into the detective type games. The puzzles are fun, there's a lot of Nancy Drew backstory, fun challenges and interesting interactions!
Ranking this in my top tier of ND games
I think this might be the best story/plot out of all of the games. SO glad I decided to replay it!
Крутой сюжет и сложные загадки, советую!
First time playing a Nancy Drew game. Loved it! Definitely shouldn't have played the Master version for my first time, though.
Quite liked it. The characters were fun, liked the jokes. The ending was murky, feels like only half the truth was discovered, the rest remained mystery. Hope there will be continuation to this mystery.
