It was so much fun to return to Nancy Drew after a long break. I never played the newer ones so it was so much fun to play. The puzzles took a bit for me to figure out at times, but after some trial and error, I made it to the end. I would love to do another run on Senior Detective.
logic is key
Big-big spoilers hidden here!
At moment of writing this I've played a total of 8 ND games.
Now, this one’s a bit of a doozy. This is my forth ND game. But technically it is also my first ND game. I tried it years ago, but the puzzle with assigning seats was bugged for me, and didn’t work, so I had no way of progressing the game and gave up. Maybe it was for the better, since this game would’ve been a terrible first introduction to the ND series. It is very different from other, older ND titles I have already played. However, I have yet to find out if this one’s an outlier or if all the newer games are like this.
Fortunately, despite how different this game felt compared to others, I still enjoyed it a lot. It was fun in all the right ways for me. Without giving to many details away, this game is FULL of drama. I’m quite used to ND games constantly deescalating their internal conflicts. Characters are very rarely allowed to just unabashedly hate each other, not even in DAN (and that game was MESSY). But here? Everybody hates everybody. Quite openly too. There’s a lot of shade being thrown around in dialogue, but that’s not there the real tea comes from. You see, in the game you have an option to listen to recordings of cast’s rehearsals, and while I usually hate this type of lore dumping in games (think Dirk’s letters in SHA), I ALWAYS looked forward to going back to the office and checking if more voice notes have been uploaded.
The reason for this is the cast, it was simply amazing. They were all little egomaniacal pricks. Talking to them in real life would’ve been unbearable, but I had the time of my life talking to them from behind the screen. I can’t even pick a favorite. And the dialogue options were just as fantastic. There were several times in this game when I had to exclaim out loud “Nancy! You can’t just ask this!!”. But each time I went ahead, and asked the question, reveling in the unfolding drama. This game managed to make me really excited about learning everyone’s back story and talking to people. Even in my all-time favorite CRY I wasn’t as invested in everyone’s dialogue, but here, I interacted with characters time and time again, always hoping a new dialogue option had been unlocked. I didn’t even want any clues, I just wanted gossip!
The was one thing that annoyed me though. Despite LIE taking place in Greece, all the characters are Americans, except for one guy (and if you’ve played the game you know that’s a very interesting choice from HER). What a bummer.
The plot of this game, however, is ridiculous. I still like it, but it’s really goofy.
Just the fact that Melina invites you to investigate, and then dumps the entire museum on you, is bonkers. Yeah, sure, I’ll learn how to verify ancient art’s authenticity in one hour! No problem at all! Not to mention everything that has to do with the play, especially the way it's justified by the story. It’s giving “to save our local skate park, we’ll have to put on the best talent show this town has ever seen!”. The conspiracy is also bonkers. Like, how would that even work? It is so convoluted, only a theater kid could come up with something like this. Also, I just don’t believe in anyone’s motivations for doing this. Tough mobster going around in costume and full make up? Going to rehearsals? Learning lines? I didn’t buy it, and it was goofy every single second.
And the play itself?
Why does a play about Persephone only has 4 roles??? Why is the script like that? I get that it’s a front, and not meant to be performed a second time, but has Melina not once checked the script? It’s so bad! Persephone is such a non-factor in it, it should really be called “Persephone’s Mom and her weird relationship with the blond twink, whoever he’s supposed to be”. I guess all of that adds a human layer to the story, cause like, of course Xenia would write something like this. She has a gigantic crown on her head. But then again, in hindsight, how did I not know it was a group conspiracy?? Any legitimate actor would be raising hell over a script like that. In my defense however, I had no idea HER could even pull a twist like this. Not a single good guy in the story! All interactive characters are criminals! Even Melina, because she totally exploited Nancy for free labor (also she must’ve been profiting from the scheme somehow, I just don’t believe she had no clue whatsoever).
Regardless of my bewilderment over the plot, I still think character writing was very nuanced and detailed, so, big kudos for that.
Puzzles were alright. They were doable, so that’s good. But they also… felt like homework. It was constant learning. Learning history, art verification, sound mixing, stage lighting, doing paperwork. For whatever reason this game really made me feel like I was Nancy Drew with her never-ending barrage of unpaid internships. I did A LOT of work for that woman
on top of saving her ass from jail.
The game overall is pretty solid in terms of atmosphere and feel. First half of the game is not very scenic, but it gets a lot better as it goes on, and we get to explore the underworld. I’m not particularly in love with the daytime ND games, but this one at least didn’t hurt to look at. Plus, it managed to have a very lazy Mediterranean-afternoon vibe to it. It’s the big day, but not a single person seems to be in a rush over it. Some of them haven’t even finished with their assignments! Also, I’m sorry, but the fact that this play REQUIRES authentic reproductions of ancient Greek pottery is hilarious. Another fact that’s hilarious, is that, because this game supposedly takes place during a single day, all the characters are in costume ALL THE TIME. Even while making pottery or setting up lights.
One more detail that makes my head spin is those decorations. Part of me is convinced that the underworld was real actual hell that exists underneath the stage.
The other part of me still thinks that all of this was a money laundering scheme by Melina.
God, I just never managed to trust Melina, it had to have been an inside job! Also would’ve rocked if the criminal turned out to be a phone contact (but that would cost additional money for animation, and HER just doesn’t have spare budgets like that).
Also, this game made me feel like I was in the backrooms. Wondering this gigantic empty set with, what I can only describe as, the only 4 people in 100 km radius was very suffocating at times. Felt like purgatory (which is above Hell!!).
I don’t think it’s a negative though. Like I said, this game has a very interesting feeling to it.
And I’m still shocked by the choice to make all the characters not only actors, but also co-conspirators. Not even a rogue repairman or assistant are part of the story. Just Nancy and the gang. I genuinely felt in danger during the finale.
All in all, this game felt like a neat, tight experience, rich with over-the-top drama and scheming, and even though it’s different from most ND games I’ve played so far, it is still very identifiably ND.
9,5/10 for all the drama and gossip.
Not a big fan of this one. The puzzles are either boring or too difficult, the characters are all unlikable, the plot is strange, and the majority of the game takes place in a museum or sets for a play and not in actual Greece. A bit of a waste of a setting in my opinion.
life changing
It's a good game with challenging puzzles that make you think.
Felt like conversations happened out of order, the puzzles were uninspired, and progression hinges on just walking loops around the map until you *hopefully* notice a single new item on the edge of the screen. Not HER Interactive's best work.
I love the Nancy Drew games, but this is one of the more disappointing ones. Love the theme, but the dialogue doesn't progress in a way that makes sense. Makes things super confusing sometimes!
wszystko
Great game with challenging puzzles and an easy to follow checklist of tasks!
Excellent game, highly recommend!! While some find the plot a bit unrealistic and the game a bit overly ambitious, I personally found it to be engaging, interesting, and fun! The ambience is lovely, and the theme is on point. If you're a classicist (a.k.a love studying ancient Rome and Greece) you'll probably have an amazing time. If not, this game might not become a top favorite of yours, but I'd still highly recommend a playthrough. And, if you're already a ND fan, there's no question that you should play it as a great installment of the series!
Challenging puzzles!
We will smurf soon. TSM wrath will be swift. All these peasants thinking we aren’t good. Lmfao
Also this game sucks. Go watch paint dry--more fun
Very disappointed since I could not play the game on windows 11. The game would freeze and then shut down immediately after the first dialogue scene and nothing I could find online would fix it. I even tried playing it when my computer was running an older version of windows, but no luck. :/
If you like Nancy Drew games that are pretty puzzle heavy definitely check this one out. The environment is a little cramped compared to others in the series (especially since it's in Greece!) but it was really fun!
SPOILERS:
I loved the Underworld set, the way I was able to use my childhood obsession with Greek mythology and enjoy the puzzles, and reeallllyyy loved the fact this was an 'everyone is guilty' plot. I think it was a lot of fun to change the pace, and rather than pinpoint one person who's causing trouble the whole time, it's a matter of proving it.
Labyrinth of Boredom. As far as im concerned, this "game" is just a puzzle compilation with how poorly the story is executed. To be fair, I never had the upmost interest in Greek mythology anyway.
This is the most illogical game. I felt like I was in a weird dream the whole time. The layout of the rooms make no sense. The location of objects makes no sense. One character is apparently able to teleport and change outfits when you go through a few doors. You basically know the culprit 5 minutes in and spend the rest of the time messing around until you do enough tasks to trigger the end game. Nancy somehow manages to anger every single person in this game, and five minutes later they will be happy to talk to her again. This is the only game where I felt like Nancy herself is stupid. Because why would she
continually pester a known criminal about his past murders
.
Absolutely love this!
Not my favorite but fun to play! I love that it is set in Greece and adds a touch of Greek Mythology. I end is a little korny but I would recommend this game for Nancy Drew fans.
Probably my least favorite played in the Nancy Drew series. I didn't hate the puzzles, but how you progress in the game didn't feel logical, and there's just no great flow in how to move on and trigger the next phase of the game. Story line wasn't terrible, but just felt disjointed compared to many other games.
I love Nancy Drew games and have been playing them for a while, this one really disappointed me. I love Greek Mythology and theatre so I thought this game was going to be super fun. The characters were just okay and the mystery was just like too far fetched. Also the puzzles really felt like they had nothing to do with the plot, Overall its beautiful to look at and the mechanics are much better than the old games but the story line, characters and puzzles just make it not worth the time in my opinion.

This was not one of my favorite ND games.
If you are playing through all of them I would recommend you get it on sale.
I was really looking forward to this game, it seemed interesting and the backgrounds look beautiful.
However, the story was predictable, I didn't like any of the characters, it got boring half way through and since I wasn't invested in the characters or story I wasn't that interested in finishing the game. The ending was good, some of the puzzles were good, but not many of them. I do not think I would play this one again.
One of the more mature entries in the series. Played it with someone and it was certainly more enjoyable for that. Puzzles were a bit convoluted and really saturated the back half.
Played on Amateur: the puzzles are challenging, but not impossible, and the hint feature helps point you in the right direction before giving you spoilers. There's not too many locations/rooms available, and feels rather contained and less spacious than other ND games, but I did enjoy the story line and soundtrack! I love that the game is educational and informative as it is based in a museum of ancient Greek artifacts and mythological lore.
That set must have cost about $30,000,000 to build, right? Who built it? Who paid for it and how? Where is the stage crew? Who decided this made sense? I can only suspend my disbelief but so much.
This one doesn't feel as logically thought through as some of the other games in the series (how on earth did this troupe get hired... and I'm still trying to figure out how those stages could have been feasible...), but it was a fun overview of Greek mythology, had great characters, and absolutely stunning sets. Very colorful and fun. Highly recommend!
It had a really interesting story line but the puzzles were a lot harder than most of the other Nancy Drew games. I feel like their instructions or "hints" for solving puzzles weren't really that helpful and I was still completely confused about what I was supposed to do.
UGH. try any other nancy drew title you'll enjoy it. not this one. so bad.
I'm playing my way through all of the ND games, and I suspect most people reading this review are too, regardless of reviews! But here are my thoughts anyway.
labyrinth of lies is definitely going in my top 3 ND titles of all time! I really enjoyed it, and it probably had one of my favorite settings of all the titles I've played (though i'm very excited for SOD!) the underworld set was just so cool, and for the most part i really enjoyed the puzzles. there were some unexpectedly tough ones towards the end, but it was really fun! i enjoyed the characters and the plot, and don't really have any major criticisms.
They really put a lot of effort into this dialogue! I'm really enjoying going back and playing these games as an adult.
Epic gameplay and plot, just like all the ND games from HerInteractive! Love the graphics for this game also, and all the vivid locations! I also find ancient Greece and Rome fascinating. highly recommended!
Has a lot of challenging puzzles and a pretty good twist to the plot line.
I love Nancy Drew - I love the old games, I love many of the new games, I love the camp and quirks that come along with game play. That said, this game did not work for me. Between the issues with navigation (at no point in the game can you take a 360 view of the setting), the plot holes, the issues with game mechanics (the NPC appearing in two locations at the same time in different costumes and different moods; talking to people twice in a row and receiving materially different updates; uh....what is Kronos?), this was a bummer for me. What makes it worse is that the story line and dialogue almost (almost!) could have redeemed this.
All Nancy Drew games are amazing. Nothing negative to say at all. I 11/10 recommend!
Learn about Greek mythology and explore theatrical sets based on the Greek Underworld!
nancy drew + greek mythology=perfection
dont listen to the haters, this game def has its issues but i still really enjoyed it :)
I think this might actually be the worst Nancy Drew game?
Might be one of the top 3 ND games I have played. Puzzles were challenging, but not extremely difficult. I really enjoyed the Ancient Greece aspect and learning more about the gods and thought the puzzles were very intuitive when it came to researching and applying the knowledge. The art style of the underworld was absolutely mesmerizing to wander through and I enjoyed this game from start to finish. Highly recommend!!
the disk puzzle got on my nerves other than that great plot, great puzzles,
Setting is great (the underground is amazing), characters have character, plot is good. But you do have to run a mile to get from one character to the next. Didn't like it as much as I wanted to.
Its very enjoyable
This was probably my least favourite of the nancy drew games.
Lots of fun, heavy on greek mythology. Game location is fantastic and they really outdid themselves on graphics. A very fun mystery game.
I love all Nancy Drew games. Sometimes a little difficult...but hints help.
I played this game growing up so I wanted to replay it now. I love the Greek mythology spin on it and I feel like Nancy isn't in much danger compared to some of her other games. Some of the puzzle are kinda tricky in Master mode because there isn't much instructions given and they are usually written in riddles. Overall, I enjoyed this game.
Fun game so far, even though I've yet to finish it. I have several ND games, but I've only finished one of them (Alibi in Ashes). I've had to use a guide for most of the puzzles, but otherwise it's been a blast.
Continues to remain one of the only game series my wife will play with me - and i grudgingly enjoy them despite terrible pacing, hammy characters and awkwardly confusing puzzles, there's still something fun there.
I really enjoy all the nancy drew games
I'm sorry, I rarely review negatively because I don't want people to be turned off by something that they might like. However, if you are already reading this, I must say, out of the many Nancy Drew games you can play, you can definitely skip this one, and it won't affect your enjoyment of the other better games whatsoever. This has one of the weirdest plots of the whole series, not to mention the many gaping plot holes in it. Puzzles are ok, none of them really stood out as amazing, but none were like terribly bad or annoying to play. There were some obtuse thinking in this one, just because I think whoever designed them overthought how complicated they wanted things to be. so yeah, skip this one.
Game is terrible. I like nancy drew games but this game should be overwhelmingly negative.
perfect game for everyone to enjoy. Choppy story line if you dont follow the right way, but I love an interesting Nancy Drew game and when I first ordered it, it was fun and took a minute to solve puzzles. My husband can solve them in a flash so now we play together.
stan nancy drew
Yeah, the reviews don't lie. This is not a good one. It wasn't obvious. Hard to believe that each of the performers is starting to act like their characters (in the play), and then they have this basement hideout (that is so so so cool and well done). Are we supposed to believe that it is just for them and not for some museum or interactive area for the public? It would be like if that whole temple in The Scarlet Hand were made just for the staff to hang out it?! Doesn't make sense. Also, these puzzles were all over the place and didn't feel like they were naturally in the environment.
Definitely in the lowest 3 Nancy Drew games for me and I’ve played all 33 games (up to Midnight in Salem).
I do enjoy the fact that it wasn’t a spooky setting for once so it’s a more “chill” game. I do also love the underworld set, I think it was nicely done.
However those are probably the only 2 things I actually liked about the game. First of all, I find that I do not care for any of the characters at all. *minor spoiler ahead* Like somehow even a certain character being all mysterious and sketchy about his past doesn’t actually make me curious?
Secondly, I feel like the game doesn’t flow nicely. Like the sequence of events doesn’t really make sense and I found myself stuck a couple of times.
Overall not an enjoyable Nancy Drew game, it’s not exciting and when I was 70% through, all I could think of is getting it over with.
I really enjoyed all the puzzles in this Nancy Drew game! The dialogue was short, sweet, and to-the-point, with the main emphasis being on puzzles to progress the game. This is just the way I like it! Uncovering new locations also made the game more invigorating. I really enjoyed re-visiting this game again! PS: Make sure you take notes on some of the Greek lore you find if you're playing on Master Sleuth, it may come in handy for puzzles later when pieces of your inventory are no longer there!
One of the best Nancy Drew games I've played. Good diversity and quantity of puzzles, some other games there are fewer puzzles. A good balance between the challenge of figuring out what you need to do next / how to solve a puzzle, and the clues that help you figure it out. In some other games it's sometimes too easy or too hard. Characters with interesting back stories, good pacing with the plot, and love the setting. Liked how the whodunnit format is different in this game than in other games.
My only aggravation with this game was the lack of instruction through it. Thank god for a check list. Also the puzzles were incredibly difficult even on amateur level
I liked this ND game, but definitely not my favorite. I liked how different it felt by being in Greece, but I feel like the mystery part of the game doesn't come in till pretty late. I also thought that some of the puzzles were kind of advanced (even in amateur detective mode). But overall I thought the story line was good. Although looking back I do regret buying it full price ($19.99).
I wasnt sure about this one at first after playing the Shattered Medallion, but I'm really glad I played it. The recent Nancy Drew games, this one and Sea of Darkness, were beautifully made. The voices, graphics, story lines, theyre so good! I was really excited for Midnight in Salem and had a hard time getting into it. I REALLLLLY hope they make some more like Sea of Darkness and Labyrinth of Lies. I've been playing Nancy Drew since I was young and I love these games so much. I really want to keep playing them.
Good story, nothing amazing, but definitely good. If you don't like a lot of big, complicated puzzles like RAN, but don't like MID for it's lack of hard puzzles, this game is a good compromise.
It was informative and unpredictable. Mystery++
Lots of puzzles! Not always seamless to the story (which is good), but lots of good, varying difficulty puzzles.
I LOVE Greek myths so I was really excited for this game but it was honestly one of my least favorite ND games to date. The story was predictable and also really ran in circles several times, the flow of the game was very un-intuitive to me and some of the puzzles were ridiculous. There were also plot holes that I don't usually find in ND games such as an NPC being in literally two places at once in different outfits and in one place they're mad at you and one they're not, enough that I started expecting a Waverly Academy-esk twist that didn't come.
This game was...okay. I loved playing the old Nancy Drew games, when I was a kid, even though they terrified me to no end. I picked up this one to try out since its one I'd never played before, and as a Classical Studies major I was excited for a Greek-myth themed game.
It definitely feels like the Nancy Drew games I remember, though I did find the plot a little bit lacking. Nevertheless I did really enjoy revisiting the series and I'd definitely try out more!
9/10 - Great setting, good puzzles, and a cast of characters you will never forget. Shout out to Grigor for his excellent writing skills!
its kinda great
its a hit
Fantastic story line! Enjoyed every minute of it especially the bonus awards. It feels like a classic Nancy Drew to me and the voice actors did great.
Very good puzzles and easy tool/task navigation.
literally the worst one im so confused
a lot of puzzles. not good mix pf puzzle and investigation.
As a lover of Greek mythology and Nancy Drew, this game was a huge hit! I will definitely be adding this to my favorites!
This one has everything I want in a Nancy Drew game. The puzzles are decent, the set (although limited) looks really cool, it's educational, and the characters are well written. I really like the characters in this one; they are dynamic and the voice actors did a great job. There are a few hinky moments trying to get events to trigger but besides that I found the plot engaging. I think this is one of my favourite Nancy Drew games.
Love it! They layered the plot very well. I like all the characters, and exploring was a lot of fun in this game! I am also a sucker for Greek mythology, so that may be why I like it so much, too.
not bad
I thought this was really fun and it had plenty of different "locations" to explore. For people who enjoy mythology, it was fun to see their interpretation of the stories as well! I will say, it didn't necessarily end on a high note, but the playthrough was good enough I'll give it a pass.
I really enjoyed this one.
The plot made sense, the puzzles involved research but weren't overly difficult and the characters were interesting.
This morning I was fired from my job after 25 years of working there. My boss had retired and let this POS college grad with $200,000 in student debt and an ego the size of Texas take over, firing everyone over the age of 35 in order to "progress the company into the next century." F*CK YOU, CHAD! F*CK YOU AND YOUR PORSCHE YOUR DAD BOUGHT YOU! Have fun looking for the huge sh*t I took in your wiper fluid container!!!
TlDr Nancy Drew 8/10 Would recommend
I would recommend if you could find this on sale. I have to agree with some of the users that the pacing was a little slow. There were one or two puzzles that were a little too hard in my opinion, but overall a decent game.
This one was very middle of the road for me, I liked the more chill setting (after playing lots of ND games with a spooky vibe it's nice to have a change) and the overall atmosphere and style of the game. But there are a lot of annoying slider puzzles in this (my least favorite kind) and you do end up doing a lot of chores that don't really have anything to do with the main objective of the game. The story itself was fine but again, nothing too special and I didn't feel like I connected really with any of the characters. Overall, just kind of *meh*.
love
This is one of my favorite Nancy Drew games. It has wonderful puzzles, memorable characters, and a cool twist. I have replayed this game several times through and have enjoyed myself every time.
I enjoyed this one a lot, honestly. Especially when compared to The Shattered Medallion. My only real complaints are that the names are a little... obnoxiously on the nose (Thanos and Kronos and Niobe and Xenia...) and Thanos overall was absent most of the game and easily hated the rest. The actual end result of the mystery was pretty predictable. I did enjoy it, though, so I won't complain too much.
It's just a good game.
Too many long puzzles even for Nancy Drew sleuth standards and really a whole lot of nuthin' for awhile. It had promise with its location and lore involved, but overall it's underwhelming.
Love all ND games. The graphics and mechanics just keep improving!!!
Good game. Challenging puzzles. Loved the sets. Not my favorite of the series but definitely entertaining.
it’s okay! i probably would’ve given it a thumbs down if i’d played it before midnight in salem, but it’s definitely better than midnight in salem.
my main complaint is the pacing and the amount of spoon-feeding. there are a lot of nd games where you are sort of led gently through the story, but this one feels less like you’re driving it and more like it’s being told to you with puzzles. most of the major breakthroughs don’t feel like things that you did yourself, but that might just be me. that being said, the sets are pretty, if a little immersion-breaking. the characters vary in quality imo.
i wouldn’t say skip it (especially if you’re doing an nd marathon) but definitely play other nd games too.
It was okay. The story sort of all comes up together at the end instead of playing out smoothly but thats pretty normal for ND games lol. The puzzles were okay but to be honest most of them were pretty boring and, in my opinion, most of them didn't go with the them of the story. Also navigation is pretty confusing like I completely missed a pathway until I looked it up because I was stuck :/ The characters are good and I think that they were well thought out and the music is pretty good :) I have to say I didn't really like the voice acting in this game :/ People talk SO SLOW so I ended up just skipping through most of it or turning off my sound and reading it then skipping :/ Also the hints in the taskbar aren't helpful at ALL :( I got stuck quite a lot because there is so much stuff you need to do and the hints were always super vague :( But overall the games ok but not the best :)
Great sets, entertaining plot, well developed characters with strong backgrounds, tons of challenging but fun puzzles
This is my least favourite Nancy Drew game. It is boring and full of plot holes.
this is a great game i would recomend. ive only played a handful of the nancy drew games but this one doesnt dissapoint
Pretty good
it was good
Eh. I got this game for like $3.99 so I can't really complain. I've been playing ND games since 2002 and I've loved all of them up until the newer ones. This one is probably my least favorite out of that bunch. I didn't really feel like I was paying a mystery game. It felt like a museum curator chore simulator. When you finally get down to the set of the theater, it just gets really confusing. As other reviewers have stated, the backgrounds are well done, but that's definitely not enough reason to spend $20 on the game. I would only recommend getting this game if you want to play every game in the series, otherwise, skip it!
I found this one lovely.
Not one of the best games in the series, but also not one of the worst. I didn't really grow to care for any of the new characters unfortunately. However, some of the sets are really cool and beautiful.
