First, yes I know I'm not recommending this game. And that's really because this game is incomplete. This is only Act I of what is suppsed to be a IV part game and as of posting this review only 2 of those parts are out (part II came out in 2015... so who knows if we'll be getting more). Episodic games can be fun but only when you know you'll eventually get the full thing and charing $7.79 (CAD) for what's at most 3 hours of game play when the game isn't finished is kinda lame.

The story itself seems fine... but it's so early it's hard to tell if it's worth it. The graphics are a bit janky and my game lagged quite a bit. The voice acting is very hit or miss. There really wasn't anything that kept me invested (and tbh I'll probably only replay so I can get 100% completion on this). If you really like point and click games and need to play every single one you might enjoy this. Otherwise, maybe wait till it's on sale or until the other episodes are out.

Also James' design annoyed me so much. Why did he have a HUNK of hair in his face sometimes and then just a little bit other times? It was kind of distracting.

I did think some of the acheivement names were funny so yay for that.

Avventura tutta italiana divisa in quattro atti.
Il primo l’ho giocato in una sera ed ho subito avuto voglia di proseguire con il secondo. Non si parla di un capolavoro ma di un punta&clicca molto carino.
Le scene e i personaggi sono molto godibili a livello grafico, i dialoghi e le scene animate sono realizzate in stile comics. Il comparto audio è ottimo ma devo dire che non ho gradito per niente il doppiaggio italiano che spesso mi ha rotto il mood della scena. Gli stessi dialoghi a volte li ho trovati “imbarazzanti” proprio per i contenuti.
Sugli enigmi secondo me si poteva fare meglio, ce ne sono pochi davvero interessati mentre gli altri sono banali, ti scivolano via dalle mani e neanche te ne accorgi. Le interazioni con l’ambiente sono davvero scarne.
La trama invece è interessante, intensa, a tratti cruda, e ricca di dettagli che valorizzano il contesto della storia. D'altronde è quella che tira tutto.
A parer mio questo gioco merita la sufficienza.
Non è un gioco tecnicamente brillante ma nonostante delle cose negative è stato comunque divertente e sento di aver speso bene il mio tempo i miei soldi.

Atto I mi è durato di più e l’ho trovato anche leggermente più denso come contenuti.
Gli enigmi non sono mai frustranti, ma neanche banali: tutto sommato ben bilanciati. Ammetto di aver cercato una guida online per un passaggio, ma solo perché non avevo fatto attenzione ad un dettaglio mostrato nel filmato.

This is an episodic game where you have to buy the episodes separately. This came out in 2014, and second episode came out in 2015, it's been over 9 years waiting for Act 3.

It's not a bad game, but it's a very short game, I know I didn't pay full price and I don't remember when I got the game, it's been sitting in my library for years.
I completed this game in 1 hour and 43 minutes, and the price is 6.99$.
My biggest complaint minus the time it took to beat was the graphics of how James shirt was done

This game and the puzzles are extremely simplistic and it's super easy to get through.
The story is ok, but this is Act 1 so I guess I'm waiting for Act 2 to go on sale because I'm not going to be paying full price if there's a big chance I can finish that in under 2 hours.

According to their website Act 3 is in production as they announced it with a trailer in 2022.

I just can't recommend the game, it might be worth it to play for some, but wait to see if Acts 3 & 4 get released before you pick it up.

Da das Spiel eigenständig vermarktet wird, bewerte ich es auch als eigenständigen Teil. Und genau dann versagt er nämlich, weil Akt I einfach mittendrin endet. Einen Cliffhanger zu haben, wäre ja noch ok, aber da ist einfach ganz unvermittelt Schluss, so als wäre das Geld oder die Zeit ausgegangen. Das Spiel ist einfach mit der Heckenschere durchgeschnitten.

Fangen wir aber vorne an: Die Zwischensequenzen in Form eines Comicbuches gefallen mir eigentlich sogar recht gut, zumal es recht viele sind. Schauplätze sind dafür sehr rar gesät. Ein anderer Steam-Bewerter schreibt von 10 Stück. Ich finde aber, dass man recht logisch hin und hergeschickt wird und dass nie allzu negativ wirkt. Es gibt ein stetiges Vorankommen, obwohl die Schauplätze auch wiederverwertet werden.

Grafisch ist das ganze OK, aber mehr auch nicht. Die Schauplätze finde ich trotzdem schön anzusehen.

Die Handlung entwickelt sich erst recht langsam und soll laut Intro auf einem Roman basieren. Dadurch hat man da eine recht spannende Grundlage, die sich gegen Ende von Akt I erst wirklich entfaltet. Bei dem Titel des Spiels muss man nicht erwähnen, dass es hier um Verschwörungen geht, in die der Vatikan selbstverständlich verstrickt ist. Da bin ich schon gespannt auf den weiteren Fortgang der Geschichte. Das Spiel ist übrigens ein Mix aus ernster Handlung, aber auch mal lustigen Dialogen. So versucht eine Großmutter verzweifelt, mich mit ihrer Enkelin zu verkuppeln. Logiklöcher gibt es aber auch. So inhaftiere ich z.B. jemanden, der mich umbringen möchte, in meiner Wohnung. Ich lasse aber dort meinen Laptop mit Geheiminformationen stehen... Von diesen Momenten gibt es genügend im Spiel.
Für ein Indiespiel ist die Handlung aber immer so solide, dass sie mein Interesse weckt und hält.

Das Beste am Spiel ist die Musik, die selten ertönt, aber ziemlich gelungen ist. Für Spielbesitzer gibt es den Soundtrack hier sogar gratis dazu. Das ist ein klasse Schachzug!

Die deutsche Übersetzung (nur Untertitel) ist leider nur OK. Die scheint mit einem Übersetzungstool gemacht worden zu sein. Das schmeißt mal völlig absurde Texte aus. So beschwert sich jemand, dem ich mit einem verstopften Kamin aus dem Haus treibe über "die Grippe". :roll:
Meistens ist der Text aber fehlerfrei, aber eben etwas holprig geschrieben. Vor allem bei den Tagebuchtexten merkt man das eher. Ich denke, der Rest fällt nicht so sehr auf, weil ich die englische Sprachausgabe ja unterbewusst mit wahrnehme und interpretiere.

Die Rätsel sind eigentlich alle grottig. Manche sehr schwer und mit Pixelhunting versehen (auch wenn sich das Spiel parallel darüber lustig macht) und andere wieder sehr einfach. Insgesamt wirken alle Rätselelemente eher bemüht.

Insgesamt kein absolut schlechtes Spiel, zumal sich die Reihe entwickelt - so viel sei hier schon mal verraten.

Quería darle un recomendado pero después de valorarlo y de acordarme que también le di un NO a Blackwell Legacy, me veo obligado a explicar qué problemas tiene el juego: quizá no sea insufrible ni horrible ni nada por el estilo, pero es un pelín aburrido, sobre todo por una trama pretenciosa y ciertos puzles excesivamente simples... Y el final abiertísimo, que no deja lugar a dudas que es simplemente un capítulo de una historia mayor. Pero de esto que se queda tan como si no hubiera pasado nada todavía, que realmente no sientes que hayas jugado a un juego sino a una demo. Osea, que si haces como yo y compras un pack con varios juegos pues ni tan mal, pero comprarlo solo ni pensarse.

Visualmente me molesta porque los dibujos cómic son muy bonitos, me encanta el estilo cartoon realista, pero los modelos 3D son muy baratos y tiene bastantes fallos gráficos como personajes que se quedan en pose T. Y finalmente, creo que es un proyecto humilde con demasiado poco presupuesto (basta con ver la traducción española), pero que no puede justificar que se sienta un amalgama de aventuras gráficas mucho mejores: Broken Sword, Blackwell Legacy, The Longest Journey son solo algunos títulos que me vienen a la mente.

Lo dicho, a mí no me ha gustado y ojalá lo pudiera haber disfrutado, vosotros mismos. Por cierto, no puedo olvidar el puzle del coche, un minijuego ridículo que lo siento pero lo que hizo fue matarme de risa.

Shadows on the Vatican jest grą luźno opartą na książce autorstwa Davida Yallopa "In God's Name" wydanej we Włoszech przez wydawnictwo Bantam Books w 1984 roku.
Poznanie całej historii z uwagi na to, że została ona podzielona na epizody, będzie wymagało od nas zagrania we wszystkie cztery części serii.

Fabuła gry opowiada historię byłego księdza, który zostaje wplątany w konspiracje sięgające samego szczytu Kościoła. Jego dawny, mieszkający w Rzymie przyjaciel wpadł w tarapaty i jest to powiązane z teczką pełną kompromitujących Kościół dokumentów. Watykan nie cofnie się przed niczym, aby je odzyskać.
To jest mniej więcej zarys fabuły i można ją określić słowem "ujdzie.

To jest główny problem Shadows on the Vatican.
Wszystko w tym tytule możemy określić słowami "ujdzie".

Rozgrywka zamieniona w point'and'click przynosi ze sobą wszystkie elementy, które kojarzymy z tego typu gier. Przeszukujemy lokacje, zbieramy niezbędne przedmioty, rozwiązujemy zagadki i rozmawiamy z napotykanymi postaciami.
Wszystkie te elementy są "nawet".
Jedynie o grze aktorskiej nie można powiedzieć złego słowa, bo role odegrane są z sercem i profesjonalizmem, a głosy pasują do bohaterów.

Grafika jak przystało na gry typu point'and'click opiera się na ukazywaniu nam lokacji będących dwuwymiarowymi tłami. Jednak wszystkie postacie są już trójwymiarowe.
Nie ukrywam, że według mnie wyszło to dosyć kiepsko i rozbija to trochę graficzną spójność. Shadows on the Vatican jest grą brzydką i ani tła, ani postacie nie przyciągają naszego oka, a uważam, iż jest to fundament dobrze wykonanego point'and'clicka.

Grę w skali dziesięciopunktowej oceniłbym jakoś pośrodku, ale szczerze mówiąc nie poleciłbym jej żadnemu znajomemu. Nie polecam więc też wszystkim innym, ponieważ uważam, że na rynku gier jest wiele point'and'click, które bardziej zasługują na uwagę graczy. Shadows on the Vatican to po prostu ledwie średniak.

Conspiracy mystery in the style of Broken Sword and Secret Files.

It's a short game (about 3 hrs), there's not many locations or items, so the puzzles don't take too long to solve.

It's not a complete story, there's only three parts available at time of this review.

The game started slowly the first time I played, so wait when first loading it.

un avventura grafica classica e molto piacevole!
un ottimo primo capitolo che fa venir voglia di continuare la saga. Il protagonista è molto interessante ed i dialoghi sono spesso esilaranti, senza però perdere la serietà della situazione.
A differenza di alcune avventure grafiche qui la storia cerca di prendersi sul serio dall'inizio alla fine, niente assurdità ridicole e niente distrazioni poco plausibili.
è uno di quei giochi dove si potrebbe dire "dovrebbero farci un film" ma farlo non avrebbe senso perchè sarebbe esattamente uguale al gioco, nulla è da buttare e tutto è importante. Alcuni puzzle possono sembrare tediosi ma premiano il giocatore, disegni eccellenti e doppiaggio italiano di livello.
Contento di averlo scoperto anche se così tardi, lo consiglio agli amanti del genere!

No está mal, pero me parece que el juego ciertas problemáticas técnicas. La historia es interesante, pero hay una parte que a veces se buguea, que es cuando ves a la monja tomando vino, porque no le podes hablar como tendría que pasar en la historia para agarrar un objeto que necesitas, sino que no te deja. Ni siquiera cuando volvés a un anterior guardado de una escena anterior, una cagada porque tenes que empezar el juego de vuelta. Es horrible porque la historia parece interesante pero una paja tener que hacer todo de vuelta.

! This review only refers to Steam Deck technical issues. To not be unfair, I rated "Recommended", as I can't say anything about the game(play) itself.

I'm sorry, the game is unusable on Steam Deck, due to a weird mouse issue (mouse pointer movement restricted to 2/3 x 3/4 of screen width/height).

And it will only even run, using PROTON GE v8-32 or later. Plus setting an option in config dialogue window to "Run in window" (fullscreen, it won't even start).

Thus, I will have to refund. Unfortunately.

I am 32 years old.

My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.

When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.

Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.

With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.

After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.

Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.

Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.

Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

Un point and click honnête, dont le principal atout est son histoire qui ne fait qu'être ébauchée dans l'acte I.

Une très bonne surprise que ce premier volet!
L'enquête tient en haleine, on est dans un point and click très classique qui plaira aux amateurs du genre. On mène une vraie investigation, on ne passe pas son temps en associations improbables d'objets qui plombent le scénario. L'animation un peu "figée" donne l'impression d'un jeu "old school" qui m'a un peu rappelé Gabriel Knight. Et même si on ne joue pas dans la même cour, l'ensemble, quoiqu'un peu court, reste agréable.

Incuriosita dal Made in Italy, mi sono approcciata per la prima volta ad un genere che non avevo mai considerato prima. E devo dire che l'azzardo è stato vincente. Shadows on the Vatican ha tutto quello che un videogioco dovrebbe avere: una trama ben costruita, una meticolosa caratterizzazione dei personaggi, una dovizia di dettagli che non è tanto usuale ritrovare nel gaming e una soundtrack fenomenale. Un gioco con luci ed ombre ma che alla fine si fa godere.
Ho sin da subito apprezzato la grafica curatissima in stile fumetto, che con le sue cutscene ricorda molto lo stile di XIII.
Anche il comparto audio è ben realizzato, con delle musiche ben calate nell'atmosfera del gioco ed un doppiaggio sicuramente azzeccato per certi personaggi ma migliorabile per altri.
I dialoghi sono sensati e ben scritti e ho molto apprezzato certi stacchi ironici ( [spoiler] come il commento con relativo trofeo per il [i] bidet [/i] e certi dialoghi con Mario, il barista [/spoiler] )
E poi c'è la trama, altra nota positiva del prodotto, cresce al giusto ritmo e prende senza fare troppi giri logici.

Ma, come dicevo inizialmente, ci sono anche delle note dolenti.
La più grave fra queste è che certe sezioni davvero non si fanno comprendere ( [spoiler] un esempio: nella sezione finale, prima dovremmo usare delle chiavi per agganciarci ad un'impalcatura, senza alcun motivo, e poi dovremmo coprire con un telo un comignolo, anche in questo caso totalmente random poiché non si intende chiaramente che il volere del personaggio non è entrare direttamente in casa bensì far uscire da questa un personaggio chiave e solo dopo poter irrompere per commettere un furto... [/spoiler] ) o sono completamente arbitrarie ( [spoiler] come il minigioco dell'inseguimento con la macchina, in cui dovremmo scegliere delle strade su cui proseguire con il nostro veicolo, sperando di non incappare in ostacoli ma senza poterli minimamente prevedere in alcun modo [/spoiler] ).
Infine, sul lato tecnico c'è da fare del labor limae: in diverse sezioni il gioco, nell'angolo superiore sinistro, visualizza un codice di errore [code] "Runtime Script Error, see Log for details" [/code]ed in più i tempi di caricamento sono troppo lunghi per un'avventura così leggera.

In soldoni, se cercate un'avventura semplice al punto giusto, con una bella grafica fumettosa e di durata breve, provate [b] Shadows on the Vatican Act I: Greed [/b]; vi intratterrà sicuramente.

This is a review of Shadows on the Vatican Acts I and II, as I find them inseparable. This series has quickly become my game of the year, even playing it after so long, and right on time before the release of Act III. What does such a late release mean? This is not an indication of laziness. Quite the contrary: that can mean only one thing. This is a work of love, of passion, of huge investment in time and resources because this story WANTS to be told, and HAS to be experienced. This is a story beloved to the producers and storytellers, so much so that they have battled many an obstacle in these years to make it happen. This is a game that wants ITS VOICE to be heard.
As you load the game and the title screen appears, you are treated to one of most sublime game soundtracks I have ever heard. I mean Lara Croft’s theme in the original Tomb Raider level of epic. The music in Shadows is simply jaw dropping. I have the full OST in my playlist and I often listen to it, alongside Hans Zimmer, Dan Gibson, Carmina, Bach. You can find the full OST on Youtube as well (and I recommend listening to the track "To Silvia").
Let’s talk about the story and dialogues.
Inspired by the essay "In nome di Dio", Shadows on the Vatican is a thrill-filled story full of intrigue, mystery and some of the most deep and memorable characters I have ever met in a video game. James Murphy and Silvia are well rounded and beautifully designed — seriously, the comics-style, hand drawn characters are heart-stopping beautiful — and they have a deep personality. The plot will capture you and drag you through the two acts, leaving you wanting for more. There are tons of historical facts, trivia about Rome, the Vatican… there is so much to learn!
One of the best parts of this game are the dialogues, the thoughts of the characters, their motivations, their shady past and uncertain future. Every character evolves through the story and I can’t wait to see where the next two acts will take us.
Puzzles and gameplay are classic, as one can expect from a point and click adventure game. There are inventory based puzzles, riddles, as well as some more difficult puzzles based on reading, numbers and deep thought. Some of them may be a tad too difficult, so don’t feel too bad if you have to check a walkthrough once or twice. It’s worth it! However, I also found some of the most fun, original and quirky puzzles as well, winking and giving a nod to typical cliches of point and click games and turning them around for the fun of it.
In this respect, there are TONS of easter eggs, funny achievements, references to the world of gaming, and to other games developed by other software houses.
In my opinion, the only reason why we don’t see a flood of overwhelmingly positive reviews is the fact that some players are reluctant to give it a chance before the four episodes come out.
That is exactly the opposite of what we should do, as it is with our support NOW that can make a new act possible, that energies and budget can be allocated to the telling of this story.
Last but not least, let’s talk about the elephant in the room: the graphics. Not the comics-style drawings of the characters, but the 3D backgrounds and character models. Yes, the graphics is a bit rigid, and can feel outdated, even though it NEVER for a second bothered me or distracted me, and I actually find the backgrounds quite well detailed and well designed.
But we must keep this in mind: They were other times, there was no Kickstarter to bump up the budget of an indie company, there was no Steam to advertise, there was no indie trend, and the engines available were quite different.
I don’t want to hear it. Of course the graphics is a bit outdated. However, it shouldn’t affect or distract us too much, considering that we live in the era of masterpieces like Undertale and The Return of the Obra Dinn, purposefully reduced to bare bone graphics, for one reason or another. Whatever the case, we should be open-minded and accepting enough to give it a fair chance.
If you do it, you will be rewarded with amazing character designs, a jaw dropping soundtrack, memorable character, and a beautifully told story.

The gameplay is like any classic Point&Click. I liked the portraits of the characters and the artwork of the comic cutscenes, however, the characters looked dated during the gameplay. The areas and scenery look great though.

The dialogue and voiceovers are good in my opinion, although I've read in some of the reviews stating how bad it is. The puzzles are easy, and if you fail to do anything the game has autosave as well as manual save. You can explore the city with the fast-traveling map.

When you first play the game, you'll hear an outstanding theme song on the menu screen, I liked it so much, and the developers are nice enough to put the soundtrack on steam for free, I would pay to listen to this music. The soundtracks of the game are really good.

Pros:
+Interesting story.

Cons:
-The game is quite short, there is even an achievement where you can finish the game in less than two hours.
-Dated characters look.

Some of the achievements are missable, but there are some good guides here on steam to earn them all if you are into getting 100%. I highly recommend it to people who enjoy P&C games and don't mind the religious aspects. P.S. Mario is my favorite character.

Mais uma recomendação não tão enfática.

A trama desse adventure tem potencial, mas como o jogo é muito curtinho não cheguei a empolgar totalmente. O plot twist do final foi bem clichezão e batido, mas eu gosto muito de histórias de conspiração, então vou jogar os próximos, até porque já estão na minha biblioteca hehe.

Visualmente o jogo é feio de doer, datado até para a época do lançamento. Eu me senti jogando algo do fim dos anos 90/início dos 2000. Cenários pré-renderizados pouco inspirados e personagens que se movem como robôs. A arte em estilo comics que aparece em certos trechos do jogo também não é sensacional. Trilha meh.

Os puzzles são, no geral, bem elaborados (ainda que com um ou outro elemento batido) e uma coisa positiva é que não é um jogo que vai te puxando pela mãozinha e dizendo o que você tem que fazer ou para onde ir. Você tem que pensar.

Pegue se sair numa promo muuuuuito baratinho, como eu peguei, e se você curtir muito esse tipo de jogo. Do contrário, não vale.

Honestly not a fan of the genre, but surprisingly liked this game. Story is interesting and well, without spoilers, right.. ( moves closer to whisper into ear “ cliffhanger “ ).
The only problem I had with this game would be my total inability to figure some puzzles without help of a guide, yes, I’m that not used to this kind of stuff.

P.S. If full game would be in this art style instead of 3d, it would be better.

Gut gemachtes Adventure.

Hat mir gut gefallen.
Ist auf jeden Fall was für jeden, der Kriminalgeschichten und Verschwörungstheorien liebt.
Werde gleich danach mit Akt 2 von insgesamt 4 weitermachen.
Hoffentlich kommen die letzten beiden Akte auch noch auf den Markt, wegen Corona war jetzt viel Leerlaufzeit.
Daher wäre es schön, wenn sich noch ein paar Käufer (im Sale) finden lassen würden, um das auch finanziell hinzubekommen.
Sehr schön ist, es gibt nicht nur Sammelkarten, sondern auch interessante Errungenschaften.
Wer sinnvolle Speicherstände anlegt, kann die speziellen davon auch noch nachträglich hinbekommen.
So muss man z.B. die Systemuhr auf Weihnachten stellen, und dann den Schornstein am Ende des Spiels benutzen.
Eins bekommt man nur, indem man in unter 2 Stunden erneut das Spiel durchspielt, ich habe 45 Minuten dafür gebraucht, danach hatte ich den 100% Spielstand.
Da wäre alternativ auch noch genug Zeit, um dann eine andere Errungenschaft mitzunehmen, die man nicht per Speicherstand schnell erreichen kann.
Es ist also eine noch akzeptable Mischung, damit auch ein kleiner Anspruch besteht.
Ich hatte einmal im Spiel einen Absturz, was aber auch an meiner 2 Monitorlösung mit unterschiedlichen Auflösungen und dem hinausklicken fürs nachlesen der nächsten Errungenschaften gelegen haben könnte.
Ansonsten war alles super und ich hatte viel Freude am Spiel, da die Story interessant und die Rätsel nicht zu schwer waren.

Fazit: kaufen, kaufen, kaufen!

Consigliatissimo primo episodio di una saga piacevole e ben fatta, che sa rispettare perfettamente i canoni del genere, senza abbandonarsi a frequenti citazioni stantie.
Opera davvero di ottimo livello professionale, curata in maniera capillare nonostante figlia di una produzione indipendente. Intrattenitiva e mai frustrante, seria ma mai pesante.
Personaggi e avvenimenti memorabili e credibili, buoni enigmi e musica ben realizzata. Buono il doppiaggio sia in italiano che in inglese. Davvero buono, aspetto con ansia di poter proseguire la saga :)

While a bit on the short side, this first act is a great setup for an investigation adventure involving thugs, the Vatican and money laundry. All characters are absolutely well defined with distinct personalities, something that you don't see very often. And there is the best side-kick character introduction ever seen in a P&C game.

Puzzles are generally well designed (with a few exceptions), but some of them really rely on the player examining every single hot spot with both left and right mouse buttons.

Overall, I recommend this game to every one who likes investigative P&C games and conspiracies heavy stories.

Pleasantly surprised by this game, looking forward to continue with ACTII and I've seen on Twitter that devs work on ACTS III/IV which is great.

There are some rough areas like for example stiff character models and missing signposting at times, but i can overlook these as i am a sucker for such kind of point and clicks with conspiracies etc.

Interesante propuesta indie que no ha acabado de engancharme. La forma de anticiparte la trama parece demasiado forzada o que te llega de sopetón, así como algunos giros o introducciones de personajes. Los puzzles no me parecen para nada complicados y los subtítulos en castellano tienen algunas faltas de ortografía bastante importantes.

Los gráficos, si bien no es la parte más importante, son bastante cutres y el juego no parece demasiado bien optimizado. El tema de que sea por capítulos, pues echar para atrás al quedarse la historia incompleta y no saber si terminará. La descripción de los personajes parece, por momentos, algo superficial, al destacar tanto que son muy atractivos (¿es realmente necesario?).

En fin, no me ha acabado de enganchar lo suficiente, aunque le daré una oportunidad a la segunda parte ya que se juega fácil y su duración no es demasiado larga. Logros fáciles de conseguir.

Также есть классные и простые ачивки... Без особого труда выбил 90% или 18 из 20, мне просто лень менять дату и заново прощелкивать фастран)) А так 100% будет получить не так уж и сложно!!! Также есть карточки и значки!

Roma é o palco desta aventura, uma cidade banhada pelo crepúsculo eterno, seus céus tingidos da cor do sangue derramado em mais de trinta anos de intriga: sangue de inocentes e culpados, de vítimas desconhecidas e famosas.
Este jogo possui uma boa trama, amei a história e a forma de como conseguiu mesclar a investigação com a religião com enigma bem misterioso que quando descobrido se profunde numa área sombria o que o faz querer saber mais da próxima sequência. Curti demais os puzzles e o modo da conversação, possui um entretenimento bem legal e não é cansativo o jogo até o fim. Talvez o que possa o incomodar são as movimentações do personagem andando, etc, mas não chega a dá vontade de parar de jogar (pelo amor de Deus). Os gráficos, cenários, principalmente a área dos comic meio graphic novel que rola em uns momentos nos cenários do jogo achei muito da hora.
Todos os personagens foram bem equilibrados e bem úteis para a história ao todo, os cut scenes com as tramas prende a atenção desde o início do jogo até ao fim do episódio e cada locais que podemos ir no jogo possui uma história por trás sendo ela histórica ou não mescla muito bem no que o jogo propôs para o desenrolamento do enigma do Act I. Eu só sei que amei e recomendo muito ele, sendo uns dos meus favs agora.

Lead voice actors are awful. Especially Silvia. She speaks too slowly in her voiceovers and is clearly reading her lines rather than acting them. She strikes me as the type who doesn't understand the difference between reading a scene and acting a scene. They probably told her over and over to put a bit of emotion into her acting but she figured since she was reading from a script, she should sound like she's reading. Godawful.

Puzzles in this game are mainly inventory puzzles, but very few of them make sense. Half the time I have no idea why I'm doing something. Hero is stuck hanging from a scaffold and he uses keys to pull himself up? Um, not only would that never work in real life, but it doesn't make any logical sense. The other annoyance is how linear the game is. You aren't allowed to do things unless the game decides it's time to do them. Hero will say over and over that something doesn't make sense until he finally decides it does. I spent the first hour listening to him refuse to do anything. Why would I do that? Um because I'm telling you to that's why!

This game isn't exactly horrible. It just suffers from poor acting and illogical puzzles. Visually it looks great and the gameplay and controls are everything you'd want in an adventure game. I've heard the second game is better. Here's hoping.

Shadows on the Vatican Act I: Greed is a short point and click adventure game - the game has an achievement for a sub-2 hour run (I made it to 50 minutes with mistakes), and Howlongtobeat lists the game as 2.5 hours long - it's not a major title.

First and foremost:
- the game's animation is lacking

- the protagonist's (James') English voice acting is excellent for most of the game, but supporting character's VO is like a rollercoaster. Mario is great, the nun's mixed, Silvia's flat and it sounds like the voice actress just didn't even care.

- The story is loosely based on the 1984 book of David A. Yallop: In God's Name. It's like the first (few?) chapters of any Dan Brown book, but the programming is not so tight and there's surprisingly little gameplay/puzzle in the game.

I genuinely liked the game because it has character and I found it charming even with the silly animation style, and I found the story interested. So my review is positive, but as I mentioned the problems - it's not a flashed out and fancy game. Being at the current 68% review rate with mixed category is fitting for its overall quality, there are glaring issues that need to be overlooked to fully enjoy it.

It's not a bad short game, only worth it when it's on sale.

Good music and voice acting. Just be aware, there is no ending to this story. Only 2 parts of a 4 part series.

Edit: ehh, maybe they're still working on it?

Sama gra jest całkiem ok, typowa przygodówka z łamigówkami na umiarkowanie trudnym poziomie. Wkurzające jest jednak podzielenie historii na dwie osobne gry, za które trzeba osobno zapłacić.

Loved this game. Same review for both Acts, being them part of a unique game.
Good investigation context, nothing to make you lose you mind though. The Vatican and surroundings are for sure a captivating scenario as well.
Localized italian dialogues made it even funnier to go through the story.

Кароче в целом неплохой квест, но я его не смог пройти.
В каком то моменте застрял, и не понял как дальше проходить, не люблю такие моменты в играх, а подсказок что именно делать нет.
За то что в игре у вас нет подсказок вам Дизлайк!
А так игра в целом для любителей жанра квестов, думаю им понравится.

Un gioco abbastanza squallido, mal doppiato, mal disegnato e abbastanza scontato. Cosa ancora più grave, i numerosi luoghi comuni sui romani e gli italiani. la sciarpa in bella vista "magica Roma" dove il barista "romano" parla napoletano, dipinge roma come una città di scippatori, tutto discriminante e superficiale. Sviluppatori e tutta la combriccola che ha messo in piedi questo gioco assai scarso hanno molto da imparare sul modo di fare videogames senza discriminare fedi sportive o provenienze geografiche e devo imparare a fare storie coinvolgenti

Je suis un peu embêté avec cet acte 1 de Shadows of Vatican. Je n'ai pas vraiment apprécié maiis l'acte 2 s'est révélé bien plus à mon goût. J'aurais tendance à évaluer négativement le 1 et positivement le 2 mais le 2 étant à peu près incompréhensible sans avoir fait le 1, ça n'a pas trop de sens de juger l'un sans l'autre.
Bon, de quoi il retourne. On a affaire à un point&click classique, du type je me ballade un peu partout en papotant et en ramassant des trucs. Cet acte 1 nous propose une intrigue bien menée mais somme toute banale et assez prévisible. Le personnage principal est sous-exploité. L'intro nous montre un traumatisme passé mais les fêlures résultantes du perso ne seront sensibles qu'à l'acte 2. Les personnages secondaires de cet acte 1 ne sont pour la plupart pas partie prenante de l'intrigue. Le barman, la bibliothécaire, la banquière sont plus dédiés au pittoresque et à un humour basé sur une opposition de clichés "ritals" vs "ricains". Sur ce plan aussi, l'acte 2 est très différent avec des personnages importants pour l'intrigue.
Bref cet acte 1 n'est qu'une longue intro loin d'être palpitante.
Personnellement j'ai trouvé les enchaînements parfois peu fluides, par exemple devoir aller explicitement regarder un objet dans mon inventaire sans que ça ne dise rien de plus que quand je l'avais regardé sur son étagère avant de le prendre ou re-rentrer dans un lieu dont j'ai tout épuisé pour débloquer une cinématique, une action ou un dialogue. Encore un point qui m'a paru moins sensible dans l'acte 2.
Conclusion je vais finalement mettre un avis négatif parce qu'au vu des dates de parution des actes 1 et 2 et l'état du site officiel du jeu, j'ai bien l'impression que les actes 3 et 4 ne verront jamais le jour. L'acte 2 à lui seul ne me sauve pas l'ensemble

Shadows on the Vatican is a good, all-around adventure game. It is short, but well made. New locations open up as you progress in the story. You find things, talk to people, using logic and problem solving to try and figure out who tried to kill your friend. Surprise ending. Maybe the developers will make new chapters?

Herkese Merhaba,

Oyun 2014 yapımı ve bir serinin ilk oyunu. Bu ilk bölümün 2.5-3 saatlik oynama süresi mevcut.
Konu olarak tatmin edici diyebiliriz. Grafikler açıkçası orta seviyenin biraz aşağısında. Yani eğer bu tip oyunlardan görsel şölen bekleyenlerdenseniz hayal kırıklığına uğrarsınız. Mekan grafikleri kişi grafiklerine göre biraz daha iyi durumda. Tabi bu eleştiriyi yaparken oyunun 2014 yapımı ( 6 yaşında ) bir oyun olduğunu unutmamak gerekli. Bu yüzden çok fazla acımasız davranmak istemiyorum.
Bulmacalar anlamında neredeyse hiç zorlanmadım diyebilirim. Oyunun en büyük eksiği mekanlarda etkileşime gireceğiniz objelerin kısıtlı olması. Sadece işlem yapacağınız objeler ile etkileşim olduğundan ne yapacağınızı çok aramanız gerekmiyor.

Oyunu 1,5 TL gibi bir paraya aldığım için tavsiye ediyorum. Bu fiyat seviyesinde 3 saat size sıkılmadığınız bir deneyim sunabiliyorsa bence belli bir başarım elde etmiştir.

Hikayenin devamını merak ettiğim ve fiyatı da gayet uygun olduğu için ikinci bölümü de mutlaka oynayacağım diyebilirim.

Para-Performans kıyası sayesinde oynanabilir olduğunu düşünüyorum. Ama ileride hatırlayacağım ve çok iyi vakit geçirmiştim diyeceğim bir yapım kesinlikle değil.
