Prepare to have your ears chewed off. There's a good game in there, just cut the dialogues and monologues by half and it will still be too much, but bearable.

I made it all the way to the final chapter but never actually finished it. Every now and then I tell myself I’ll go back and finally beat it, but I always end up getting lazy.
Still, it’s one of those feel good games that sticks with you. Even after all these years, I still find myself thinking about it from time to time.

I went into this expecting a simple retro point & click. What I got was a surprisingly thoughtful cyberpunk story with strong characters and real thematic weight.
Yes, gameplay-wise it’s closer to a visual novel with light point & click elements. If you’re expecting heavy puzzle design or complex mechanics, this isn’t that kind of game. It’s more about dialogue, atmosphere, and choices than mechanical challenge.
But the writing carries it.
The world feels alive, the social commentary feels intentional (not preachy), and the dynamic between the protagonist and Turing was genuinely engaging, especially when I decided to roleplay some tension. The character interactions are where the game shines.
It’s also worth noting: only around 44% of players even got the early Prologue achievement. That’s a shame, because this is absolutely a game that rewards sticking with it.

主人公と相棒（AI）の掛け合い、タバコの煙、怪しげなバー、そしてサイバーパンクな都市描写。往年の名作アドベンチャーを愛する者なら、開始5分で実家に帰ったような安心感と興奮を覚えるだろう。
特に素晴らしいのが、相棒チューニングとの関係性と、脚本の深さだ。
見た目はコミカルでポップだが、扱われるテーマは『AIの遺伝子』のように鋭く、現代的だ。「AIに人権はあるか？」という王道の問いかけに加え、「サイボーグ化の果てに人間性を喪失する者」や「遺伝子改造されたマイノリティの苦悩」といった重いテーマが、日常会話の中にドキッとするような鋭利さで挟み込まれる。
この「ほのぼの」と「シリアス」の絶妙なバランスが、テキストアドベンチャー特有の中だるみを防ぎ、最後までプレイヤーを惹きつけて離さない。
一方で、ゲームプレイそのものには古臭さが残る。
雰囲気重視のピクセル風UIは、視認性や操作性において必ずしも成功しているとは言い難い。オーソドックスなポイント・アンド・クリック方式ゆえに、画面内の小さな判定を探してクリックし続ける「総当たり」を強いられたり、移動や演出のテンポが悪くモタモタさせられたりと、ストーリーに没頭したいのにシステムに水を差される場面（ダレ）があるのが惜しい点だ。

【BAD】
・[b]UIと操作性の古さ。[/b] メニュー画面やアイテム選択が直感的ではなく、あえてレトロに寄せた結果、現代のゲームとしての快適さを犠牲にしている。
・シーンによってはフラグ立て（次に何をすべきか）が分かりにくく、同じ場所を行ったり来たりさせられるため、テンポが悪くなる。
・翻訳は概ね良好だが、一部のスラングやネットミームの訳が独特で、好みが分かれる場合がある。
Good game. It's really nice to meet and learn about all the characters. I like the cyberpunk themes and pixelated graphics. Music is great too. Story is interesting enough, I enjoyed it.
Only big complaint I have is the clunkiness around some of the UI stuff. Saving requires you to name the save file, for instance, and for some reason there's some lag before you can start typing a name. Or another, if your cursor is already on top of a UI element before it finishes loading, then clicking it after loading finishes does nothing. For example, opening the menu is a 2 second unskippable animation, so if you open the menu and put your cursor over where the Saves option button is, then clicking does nothing after the menu finishes loading. You need to move your cursor off the button and then back on again, for the button to be clickable. Same thing for scene transitions in the game screen, when you know what you need to click on next and you go to your next location, you need to deliberately keep your cursor away from what you will click on, wait for the transition to finish, and then mouse over your item to click on it.
Despite the big paragraph, I really think this is a good game, I had fun playing it.
A very interesting sci-fi detective game with different moral viewpoints explored on the themes of robot consciousness and genetic modification.
Because it is a point-and-click game, you have to press a mouse click at every pause in a conversation and, because Turing is quite hesitant at times, then you can be made to make quite a few mouse clicks - which gets tedious at times. Yet the pauses are necessary to show Turing's deliberation and thoughtfulness. I only wish the conversational pauses could have been present without requiring all the mouse-clicks.

Game dropped at 4.3 hours due to an issue that I knew would cause me to quit, and was careful until now to avoid, but just happened. The game's save area has "load" as it's primary option. With no auto save I just had 2.3 hours of gameplay evaporate. Game is a visual novel with good music $10 is too much for what you get.

I agree with other posts wishing there was a neutral button for games. Ultimately the straw that broke the camel's back on this one is the fact that it costs $10. A visual novel that has good gameplay, and fully voiced interactions (for the most part). Achievements in this game are very telling as you can see this game gets dropped often just after the 2nd chapter.
The good: The music is great, honestly one of the things that kept me going. The pixel art is also really nice to look at, as are some of the interactions you have with NPCs.
The bad: Oh my god, really your load button is your PRIMARY option in the save screen? Are you trolling your players, or just that inconsiderate to not include auto-save with that as a function? I saw that when I started and thought "oh crap I have to be very careful when I save, because I'm going to accidently load after a long game play instead of save and it'll piss me off." That's where my quit moment happened. I played for 2 hours+ and went to save, forgetting that the load option was the primary option, and without a "Are you sure you want to load?" safety prompt (though it has this for saving -_-) 2+ hours of gameplay with heavy dialogue evaporated into the ether.
Additionally, the lack of immersion with other NPC's essentially making them less than chat GPT to talk with makes them boring. I was blown away that you have an interaction with a character in the game, and after you bamboozle them that's it, interaction over, next scene. This essentially turns the game into a comic with extra steps. If I want to read a manga or a comic I'll do that without the possibility of loading over my save file...
Lastly $10 is absolutely not the right price, nothing is overly unique with this game it's a visual novel with some good music and nice pixel art. I'd not pay more than $5-7.
As a fan of Snatcher, which this game clearly takes inspiration from, I really wanted to like this game. But it tries way too hard to railroad you into situations where it can preach at you and justify the noxious behavior of its characters. No matter which pronouns you pick, you're treated as if you're a basic cishet male. This game would have benefited from making the protagonist an actual character that's kind of a loser much like Gillian Seed is portrayed as, rather than making it an insert of the player. I'm not here to be clobbered over the head with my own progressive values. I'm both the target audience for this game and not at the same time, and the dissonance was enough to make me give up on it after it called me a knuckle-dragging ignorant ♥♥♥♥-lord because I called out Jess' behavior.

I played through this on console which means yes I bought it twice because the game is that good. Definitely have to have some nostalgia for this type of game and the 16bit/sega cd era to get the most out of this but that doesn't make it any less great, well-written, charming, and full of heart. A must play for old school visual novel-ish graphic adventure game fans young and old.
This game had a lot going for it. I liked Wilty, I liked the spoiled milk, and I liked a lot of the general themes of the game and a lot of the overall storyline. On the other hand, this game was politically charged in a way that undermined a lot of the interesting plot points in the world that they had created. I also didn't like going through the game and getting to the end and having the game glitch out so to deprive me of the single-play-through achievement the first time I attempted it. I also felt like there were a lot of questions that were never answered, no matter which ending I got. A lot to like, but I don't have any desire to ever play it again. 4/10.

- Characters: every character was unique and felt special, this game is a great example on how to create a diverse group, I definitely won’t forget Turing :’)
- Story/Conversations: This is definitely one hell of a story and oh boy did I feel the whole range of emotions while playing. I definitely lost count of the amount of times I was laughing out loud and the reference to Elong almost took me out lol xD // Other thoughts: the overall story started to feel a little long/convoluted near the end, but it didn't feel confusing, it was more like I was starting to get tired like them at the end of their journey x_x zzzz...zz...zzz......zzz....
Extras: I play a lot of my games with the sound lowered or off so I did not experience the voice acting or any music, my apologies!

Another of the many games that makes me wish for a neutral review, or at least star/score system.
While I only played little over an hour, the writing has forced me to stop and abandon ROM sadly. I am not entirely against what would be called nowadays woke or liberally toxic, but the characters in this are borderline parodies, offensive at that, of whatever identity you can think of in regards of lgbt. Even worse, they seldom have anything of interest, or any real depth aside their sexuality, gender identity and whatever flavor of furry they happen to be. Not much of life story, background etc. Maybe it reveals later down the line and I've just given up too easily, but there's plenty of VNs without the kind of facepalm-inducing writing this one has.
4/10, could be nice if you have higher tolerance to the early sjw movement stereotypes than me.

Laidback visual novel with humorous writing and point-and-click gameplay. Surprisingly deep and topical about current events from the future now that we're 8 years removed from it's origin. Pick it up for a fun time.
i really wish steam had an option for a neutral rating. the game's not [i]bad[/i]--there's lots of stuff to like about it. the pixel art is done relatively well, the soundtrack is great to listen to, the voice acting is decent, and the game actually has linux support, which is nice when most other devs don't give a ♥♥♥♥. on the other hand, the game's writing is rather hamfisted and preachy. it certainly isn't terrible by any means--there are lots of VNs whose ♥♥♥♥♥♥ writing has made me bury my face in my hands, and this wasn't one of them. still, a lot of the issues here weren't handled with very much tact, and the VN very much wants you to think in a certain way.
a lot of the characters in the VN feel like they were added there simply for diversity. the depiction of sympathy seems lowkey transphobic--i'm gonna be real, i don't think it's okay to depict women with beards. it might've been fine to do a decade ago, so i'm not gonna fault them for it, but in an era where we have ♥♥♥♥ like [i]U.S. v. Skrmetti[/i] and now have to worry about optics, it really isn't a good look. hybrids seem like a really ♥♥♥♥♥♥ metaphor for the way trans people are treated today, and the game completely ignores the differences between the entirely elective nature of gene therapy and gender dysphoria; people don't kill themselves because they can't be catgirls. while the game presents an alternate point of view in the form of the human revolution, you don't get the chance to seriously engage with their ideas. maybe i simply just don't like the genre of SF, but i would much rather see representations that are genuine, that speak to the struggles that marginalized communities face in the real world.
speaking of which, as a south asian myself, i really wasn't a super big fan of majid. he felt more like a token character than an actual member of the south asian diaspora. i don't really know how to put it, but you can kinda tell when stuff like that was written about us and not by us.
if the game was released today, it would be called woke. sure, it's progressive, but in a performative way (for christ's sake, the game makes you ask a robot its pronouns). it's the type of neoliberal ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that you would see in the mid and late 2010s. and that brings me to what i like about the game--yes, it's inaccurate, yes, it's performative, yes, it's preachy, but it couldn't have been made in 2025. it makes you yearn for the past where games like this with their extreme, weirdly.. privileged descriptions were considered normal. having to join a pronoun circle's marginally better than being called slurs.
personally, i would maybe suggest playing the game at least once. it doesn't have much replay value, and i can't really recommend it unless it's on sale or something (hence why i gave the thumbs down rating). i can appreciate the aim of the project, and i like the little bits of culture sprinkled in (gonzo journalism, neuromancer references, etc.). i'm not gonna discuss the fact that AI is panning out differently than how the devs thought it would--after all, the game was written 10 years ago. but regardless, this game's a pass from me. i thought it was interesting, but i certainly wouldn't play it again.

Lovely nostalgia-evoking cyberpunk pixel point & click thriller. The aesthetics still live in my head to this day, it did a fantastic job in 2015 and inspired many game makers.
Never competed it, but it was still fun for at least 10 hrs with some fun writing and whacky characters. I recommend if you like VN or point and click games at all.
Great game so far. Had a midlife crisis trying to figure out why one of the voice actors sounded familiar. I found out they're the person who criticized Chipper and Sons so harshly that it lead to fnaf being made.
That aside though Reading Only Memories is genuinely a fun visual novel and I'm glad I rediscovered this game for I've heard of it back in 2015, but never played it.

世界観が直球のサイバーパンクでありそういうのが好きな人にはたまらない作品。また、背景などの攻略に直接関係ないオブジェクトを調べてもバラエティに富んだリアクションが楽しめます。また細部に至るまでさまざまな小ネタが散りばめられており、それを探すだけでも楽しいでしょう。
反面、操作のレスポンスやUIはちょっとテンポが遅い感じでややストレス。全体的にキーレスポンスが遅く、文字送りはボタンを押してからワンテンポ遅れるし、テキストの瞬間表示の設定もなし。さらにセーブファイルには名前をつけないといけないのがかなり面倒。これ、「名前をつけられる」じゃなくて「名前をつけないといけない」のが親切が仇になってる感じです。エンディング分岐やチャプターモードがないことを考えるとセーブスロットの数も不十分です。
また、中盤から終盤までの盛り上がりに対してラストはやや消化不良というか盛り上がらなさを感じました。
全体的に世界観や精緻なドットグラフィック、耳に残るBGM、さまざまな小ネタなど良い要素はたくさんありますが、UIやシステム周りの不満点がその良さを打ち消してしまってる感じです。
しかし総合的には面白いゲームなので、あんまりイライラせずにやってみるといいでしょう。腐った牛乳は最重要アイテム！

If you grew up with Snatcher and Policenauts, this is gonna tickle all those memories in a brilliant way, I'm going to also now get the sequel to this, and I highly suggest picking up this game! Music is so good in it, VA is phenomenal, and overall it's a really fun game!!

Whilst I appreciate the world design. Most of the characters felt very unrealistic and lifeless. So, as mostly text based games go its kinda a slog

I havent finished it but so far it's hitting every vibe I love. I wish the text skip was faster but everything else has me hooked.
An aesthetically appealing retro-styled point&click adventure set in a lively cyberpunk world filled with political and social tensions, techological developments and dilemmas ranging to "what it means to be human" to "what is to have an identity". 2064: ROM doesn't shy away from exposing the player to topics like this, which I personally loved.
Narratively speaking, I found the game to be a bit underwhelming. I think that the main premise is kind of uninteresting, and, in turn, the game is heavily carried by the excellent writing of its colourful main cast and marvelous worldbuilding.
Puzzles are fine, too. Not too challenging. However, there's various ways to solve them, which adds some replay value.
The OST, composed by 2Mello, is pretty much perfect. It's fitting, memorable and, most importantly, a bloody ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ banger.
While not for everyone, 2064: ROM may prove to be a delightful experience for those who seek an nice adventure in a carefully crafted cyberpunk world, despite its flaws.
For me the experience was clearly a no, but if you have a lot of patience and like the art, you can definetively enjoy the game. There are some good themes an ideas scattered in the first three chapters. maybe the story amount to anything good, but I was too bored and demotivated to keep going on.
The game looked to me like an indie updated version of "Snatcher" before buying it, but the timing is badly managed (too much filler?) and the trivial talking take too much time to keep me invested in the story, minigames add frustration instead of variation and the art and character design is the fugliest thing I've seen in a lot of time. Characterization wasn't great too, everybody sounded like an otaku high on redbull and it was difficult for me to connect with anybody. The pixel art style is totally fake and difficult to see.

This game is awesome, I've not finished it yet but I've definitely played it enough to write this review!
Things I like about it:
- Interesting story, a friend of yours goes missing and you have to find out what happened to him accompanied by a little robot buddy named Turing. If you like cyberpunk futuristic style stories, this'll be right up your alley.
- Multiple endings and multiple ways to do puzzles - this means there's replayability!
- The puzzles aren't super hard but also not super easy either, and if you fail a puzzle there's usually another way to get past it, which is great so you don't ever get stuck and can't continue.
- Different dialogue options, so you can be mean or nice to people to get different responses.
- Fully voice acted! And the VAs do a great job, their delivery is on point.
- Cute graphics, pixelated but also easy to see what everything is.
- Great memorable characters, most of whom pop up a few times during the story. My faves are Chad & Oliver, they're hilarious. One character owns a polar bear butler, so you know it's a good time!
- You can click on multiple things in every location and read dialogue or talk to Turing about it, and you can try to use items in your inventory on basically everything too to get a funny bit of dialogue. I love when games do this, there's a funny bit where I tried to use a stun gun on something, got in trouble for it and for awhile I wasn't allowed to try to use the gun on any other items.
- Banging soundtrack, SO many good tracks! The whole OST is on Spotify, definitely check it out!! It's all 8 bit sounding and awesome and really gives me 90s DOS games vibes which is an era I'm super nostalgic for.
Overall, I'm really enjoying 2064: ROM a lot and recommend it! I was a bit iffy at first cos the artwork on the Steam page didn't really appeal to me, but I gave it a try and I'm hooked now.

OMG! It was HUGE! I want more games from this developer! Like it SO MUCH! All in this novel was amazing - visual style, music, characters, voice acting! It feels like in 80s-90s - for example Runny Bluster but with voice acting - SOO COOL!!!! And this unexpet warandroid drama - icryed to the end!
Just one con (but its my inner con) - PURE WILTY! I feel so bad about him - he is dead and & I so dump that i didnt understood how it good vibe system works (((((, i didnt know that u need to talk to it in every chapter & dont understood how much! EHHH....This fault will be forever with me (T___T)

I can't lie - I LOVE the world they have created here. The story is interesting and the characters (especially the voice acting) are positively charming. There is a LOT of text in here, and it can be a bit much at times, but for the most part the writers have done a good job of making the characters feel rounded. Many of the puzzles have multiple solutions, which does a lot to reduce railroading, although there is still some (particularly near the end leading into the final confrontation). Overall I enjoyed my time with the game and I look forward to moving on to the sequel.
Nothing fancy but a well-made little VN. It's well written, funny, fully voiced acted and the characters are quite likeable. I enjoyed the story much more than I thought I would, thanks to this cast of goofballs.

This game is so much more then just a visual novel, the amount of items and people you can interact with that give often extremely funny dialogue is insane and so much of it is completely optional. Plus I wasn't expecting any voice acting let alone the game being fully voiced and everyone did a fantastic job, all this combined with great characters and a pretty compelling mystery makes this one of my favorite games. It's shiny but dweeby. Wants to talk about a lot of social issues it has a weak grasp on, and the characters are all stock. I wanna say it has its heart in the right place but that's complicated by some weird choices. I like this style of adventure game, but I don't like this.
This game is the very definition of a sleeper hit. The art style, music, characters, and story are all pretty phenomenal, and there's full voice acting to boot. I don't want to spoil any of the major plot points, but the gist is that your friend has gone missing, and you team up with a little robot pal to figure out what happened and why. The game clocks in at around 10 hours, and it definitely makes the best use of your time with it. The pacing of the story is solid, and it's a shame that this game set the bar so high just for the sequel to fall flat on it's face.
I enjoyed this on the first playthrough before voice acting was added, but I played it again after almost a decade since it released... it unfortunately does not hold up.

What a horrible experience. Just finished because I'm very persistent. NPCs are arrogant, story is bland and dialogues bored me to death (and I'm used to boring visual novels). The only good point are the pixel art (however too colorful for my taste). It's weird how many positive reviews for a pretencious game.

I know this was labeled as a Visual Novel and not a point & click but that's what I started to expect as the game started out and unfortunately it dashed my hopes. I do still like visual novels so I kept playing for a bit but man, this is not well written and the voice acting is something... (Not good) Those two things are pretty important in a game like this so, I'm out.

I think a unique thing the game does is:
You have the option, at first, to try to talk someone into doing what would be helpful for your overall objective. If you say the wrong things, they may not be into it. Instead of putting you into a failstate, from there you look into an alternative way to make progress with them that isn't talking. And if that fails too, you can find a plan C. I don't think you can really fail-fail, you just have alternative methods that may or may not be as satisfactory, but it'll do.
The reason I didn't finish the game were some of the characters. They're such unlikeable, overused tropes.

You, as a presumably "hard boiled journalist", are dragged into one of those dramatic adventures that are trying to bring up the most popular topic in the cyberpunk genre - what is making us human with technology being more and more integral with not only our lifestyles, but also our bodies. And what if the machine can gain consciousness?
I quickly got fond of N E O San Francisco. Story is presenting you various opportunities to sink into this universe and oh my - I really want to drown in this one. It has all you want from this genre - big corporations being a part of your everyday life more than you want, humanity dividing with each day due to conflicts with technology. Even characters presented are great in showcasing those problems.
And speaking of problems - game unfortunately has problems with delivering the story in the right way. You, as you probably suppose, are your main hero in this. Well, no. The main hero is your sidekick, who is progressively taking more and more screen time. They are leading all conversations and making the majority of the decisions for you. Your "hard boiled journalist" personality is only to make a few decisions here and there, use some items to make this story somehow interactive. There were a dozen situations where I really wanted to take another direction - but your companion is making them for you without a chance to object.
This sidekick is my main objection. There is a plethora of greatly written characters in other media, who are fan favourites in their fandom, with their personality being just hard to not like them. Your sidekick in ROM is just not one of those - and I, unfortunately, couldn't bring myself to like them.
Another objection is the delivery of the cyberpunk genre, and it's bad. I understand that all genres are evolving and this is an attempt to somehow make a "good" ending, but the shortsightedness of your decisions are terrible. No matter what ending you choose, it just can’t deliver any satisfaction. You basically get rid of one problem to end up in another one, but the game is saying “hey, it's christmas we don’t have to care”.
It’s still a thumbs up. Game is delivering a really well written universe with great characters (and sometimes very bad voice actors, but it’s still impressive almost the entire game is voiced) and great branching that can lead up to about 6 endings. If you don’t mind being rather a spectator than the main character, can stand sometimes bad voice acting and want a visual novel rather than point’n’click adventure - try this for yourself.
2064: Read Only Memories is a fun point-and-click adventure with great world building and characters. The characters all feel realistic and relatable. The story is interesting, if a little short. Some of the point and click elements could have been improved upon.

古典的アドベンチャーゲームっぽいフォーマットだが、そこに乗っているゲームプレイはほぼビジュアルノベル。ということに気づくのにちょっと時間がかかった。いつになったらプレイヤーに主導権を渡してくれるのだろう？と疑問に思っていたらチャプターが進んで焦った。
行き先を選ぶフィールドマップ（ストアページSS1枚目）があるが、どこに行こうかなと悩む機会は2、3度しかなかった。
基本的なゲーム進行が
【行き先Aに行こう→Aにおける会話劇の中で、次はBに行くことを指示される→Bにおける会話劇の中で……→……】
のループとなっており、その点に関して正直に言ってしまえば退屈だった。
ゲーム進行の別の部分、ポイント&クリックやヒト・モノへのインタラクションもそんなに印象に残る仕掛けが無かったなあという印象。
とにかく、はじめからビジュアルノベルだとわかって臨んでいれば違う感想を抱けたかもしれないという若干の後悔をレビューに残しておく。誰かの役に立つかもしれないので。
キャラは魅力的だし、プレイヤーの選ぶ行動や発言でしっかりとシナリオやテキストが変化する（であろう）点や、関係なさそうなモノを調べた時のテキスト群の用意の良さ、レトロなビジュアルとBGMなんかはよくできてると思う。

got this in this year's queer bundle and i love it so far! it's really charming, the pixel art is beyond adorable and the little comments when you try to do silly things made me chuckle several times. another plus is that it works on my very slow laptop perfectly, so it doesn't require a lot from the piece of tech you have. you get to pick your character's name, pronouns (including neos and the ability to create your own!) and diet preferences, which really warmed my heart, that kind of attention is always a nice touch. can't wait to play it more!

Was looking for more interactivity, like in Ace Attorney; instead, this is far more like a visual novel. If visual novels are your thing, this is excellent. It's just not for me. There is voice acting, but I ended up turning it off because the mics they used keep popping bad when they talk and it kept taking me out of the story and making me remember I'm playing a game.

solid game, and i do recommend it with a few "buts".
1, i felt like the conversation choices were limiting. there are, like, MAJOR things that are just not talked about or followed up on in any way until the very end. and i felt like a lot of things that were happening were obviously bad ideas but i was railroaded into doing them anyway.
2, way way too many meaningless interactions. what i mean by that is, each scene has a bunch of interactable things, but the vast majority of those interactions are completely meaningless. give me an options to use an umbrella on a teapot, and i'm going to use it. when it doesn't do anything, i wonder why that was even an option. when that exact thing happens over 100 times, i'm not having a good experience anymore. when i found out there were multiple endings, i just didn't have the energy to do it again.
3, incredible queer representation but zero intersectionality, which i found strange. racial diversity? disabilities? referring to someone's haircut as a "mohawk" -- the mohawks are people!
4, for some reason the save menu just didn't cooperate with steam deck, i had to hit buttons 10+ times for them to register. just a QOL thing but an important one bc this game doesn't autosave!
my complaints aside, i did enjoy the story. if you were reading this as a book, it would be a great book. as the game intends, i started out being annoyed and kind of resentful of my companion, by the end i really loved them and was worried for their safety, and for me that is big. they do an excellent job giving characters a ton of depth and compelling stories. they also do a spectacular job of the "♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥" moments, which are surprising and impactful. and, while i do complain about intersectionality above, the bold and unapologetic queerness is objectively good. this game was release in 2015 but i think it's messages resonate more now than they did then.

Really natural parallels to queer culture today without making it painfully obvious, makes it feel like proper world development than, something shoe horned in, which a lot of games should really take note from!
The game is very honest, has fun twists and an adorable artstyle.
I will say some story elements can be confusing, and although it was tweaked, Jess' character is harsh to interact with. I understand the character they wanted, her story is nice! But even with respectable responses she remains really aggressive. As a main queer rep she comes off way too agro, almost like you were supposed to choose the rude responses to her.
Voice work makes it feel really complete! Even if some lines still remain unvoiced,
The Hybrid's in a Cyberpunk world is such a neat thing you don't often see in the setting,
And the way they write robots is so cute~ The whole sentience story arc is really cool to watch fold out!

An interesting setting and artistically pretty, colorful environments. Unfortunately, there's hardly any player interaction, and the few scattered puzzles are effortlessly simple. Most of the game is various NPCs expositing information, which makes it more egregious that nearly every single character in this game talks down to you. NPC attitudes range from friendly-but-arrogant "genius" characters who condescendingly recite trivia and expospeak to your character, all the way down to NPCs who are outright abusive. In the latter case, you are told to just suck it up and deal with it, as the character's tragic backstory apparently excuses any wrongdoing on their part.
There's ostensibly a message buried in here somewhere about accepting people as they are, but the delivery comes across as simply saying "sit down, shut up, and let smarter people than you tell you what to do." The crisp art and occasional moment of charming flavor text from interacting with the scenery is just not worth having to trudge through the many hours of toxic sludge this game has prepared. Not recommended.
I decided to finally knock this one off my backlog when I saw the sequel coming out. For the most part, I enjoyed my time with it. I enjoyed its characters and the world they inhabit is quite interesting to discover. There's a lot of little descriptions when you click on various items which fills out a lot of details, giving it a more lived in feel. It certainly is much more a visual novel than point and click adventure, so you won't be getting a puzzle fix here as they are few and far between. But there are some dialogue trees that'll have positive or negative effects later down the line. All was going well until... until the final chapter. Holy hell was it just awful :( It soured me on the whole experience. I'll spoiler tag my complaints but they'll be worded very vaguely if you want to peek before a purchase.

There are 2 mini-games you run into during the course of the game. One is an arcade cabinet, and the other is as necessary part of the story used to chase down characters you need to have a scene with. It's good that they introduce these early on because both of these mechanics are used in the final chapter. However, both mechanics are less difficult at the end even though the stakes are higher. The mechanic from the arcade cabinet just results in a few extra clicks you're forced to do. The chase mechanic is worse as well, because the first time you interact with it, you've got a goal of trapping a character so you can chat. But in the version used in the final act, there is no such goal, you're just doing busy work to run around in circles. It's again, simpler, but the stakes are higher as there is a life and death fail state. This would be disappointing enough, however, I certainly wasn't expecting any more complex mechanics. The issue is that this whole scene you're being chased by a character who, was written believably before hand, but turns into a campy Bond villain at the end. It feels like they got a new writer just for this act. He just loves to tell you all his evil plans, and the ways he's going to hurt you, and how fun it is to be evil, and it is just so damn boring and exhausting. It doesn't fit the character at all, who was, up until then, a pretty cool customer. It wasn't surprising in the least bit that they were one of the baddies. The reveal was telegraphed and obvious, so I'm not even sure if it was intended to be dramatic or not. But what was surprising is how that character becomes a cackling cartoon villain. Imagine if in Terminator 2, the T1000 in the final scene turned into Dr. Evil from Austin Powers and went on and on for an hour and half about how much fun it is to kill kill KILL!. It doesn't fit at all. The whiplash in the writing is horrendous. And he Does. Not. Shut. Up. It goes On. and On. and On while you're forced to engage in the subpar busy work mechanics. When its finally over, you get to another scene where your character is meant to accomplish the final objective. This scene is just another huge exposition dump. There's some dialog trees, but if there's a failure state in them, its quite hard to find. If it weren't for the previous scene, this one would be the worst writing in the game. It feels like there was a word count goal that the writers had to get to, because its so verbose. Its a little more earned here, but coming after the previous scene I needed a break and didn't get one. I cannot express enough how exhausting this was. When you finally 'beat' the game, you're let out into the world to see the consequences of your actions and... well it's good again, It's interesting to see how the world has changed and how those changes affect different characters around town. But the fact that the climax of the game is such a monumentous dip in quality for both the mechanics and the writing is impossible to ignore and overshadows the rest of my fairly positive experience.

Whew, needed to get that off my chest. Worth picking up on sale if you like visual novels with a few more minor mechanics. Or are itching to find out about the world before or after playing either its sequel, or VA-11 Hall-A: Cyberpunk Bartender which is in the same universe. The world and characters are interesting, but this isn't a bastion of fantastic writing. The final act's dip in quality really ruined it for me unfortunately.
I love this game. I've loved it for years. I've played it on multiple platforms, multiple times, shared it with friends, and remember it fondly. Play this game at the right time, and it can become a part of you; an adjustment to the filter through which you see the world, or added scope on the lens.
The writing is funny, the characters are engaging, the world building intricate, clear, and a fascinating look into the future from a 2014-2015 perspective. It's definitely built for fans of a point-and-click adventure, in the style of the late 00's-early 10's adventure game revival.
Personally, I love how grounded the story feels, even in the cyberpunk setting. It's a futuristic noir mystery with a candy coated pallet swap and puns. [i]Who Framed Roger Rabbit[/i] for queer nerds. The fantastical setting and tech are balanced by familiar archetypes and affecting relationships.
I recommend this game to everyone. It is a delightful, rich, and lovingly-crafted game, well worth the price and the time.
Sadly I'll never be able to play it on steam again/only for less than an hour, but please, enjoy what I cannot. If this message no longer tracks with my hours total, know I've failed my mission, but that the game so good that I would sacrifice the priceless to play it again.
I cannot overstate how much I love the characters and story in this game. The voice acting is excellent and the music is pretty banging too. I love how much detail there is in the setting.
I would highly recommend this game to those that enjoy a game that has true different endings depending on the choices you make throughout the game, and to those who enjoy a rich story with amazing character development. It is also fully voice acted which is a huge benefit and really helps you to become engulfed into the game and into the game world. Definitely do your first playthrough blind, or at the minimum look up where you should save to go after the different achievement endings. Just keep in mind the whole game is a visual novel and very text heavy with minimum skip options. This game won't hit a lot of audiences but if you like visual novels, enjoy games like life is strange, then you should definitely go through the journey. Its well worth it even when its not on sale
Un point & click en pixel art, très inclusif, et le tout avec une bonne histoire. Le seul point négatif pour moi c'est qu'il est en anglais seulement avec un vocabulaire assez pointu, en plus des termes cyberpunk que je ne connais déjà pas en français, mais le jeu reste très largement compréhensible dans son ensemble.
I'm very much in love with this game. It's basically a visual novel, not exactly what most people might expect of a point-and-click. The characters are cool, the art is very sweet and looks oldschool, the story is interesting and it's not very long, I guess it takes around 8 hours each gameplay. It reminds me a lot of Snatcher and Policenauts, so if you like those, there's a big chance you'll like this game. I've played this 3 times already and I can't wait to play the new one that's about to be released.
I wish I could recommend this game because the team clearly did some things right (music, the retro-ish point & click art, character portraits) but even after two hours the story did nothing to draw me in. My robot sidekick is more annoying than charming, the mechanics are extremely basic, and lastly, I didn't feel like I had much agency at all to make decisions that would matter in my investigation.
If you need a cyberpunk fix, get it, I guess. But otherwise I hope the sequel will improve on the lackluster gameplay aspects.
