Wonderfully charming game! The spellcrafting is incredibly fun and is used in puzzles as well as combat. I loved making this absolute horror of a spell that just shot out a dozen fireballs which each split into more fireballs. The art is very nice as well and the story had some nice twists and turns. You'll have a good time with it methinks

It’s not a bad game but to me personally it was often more frustrating than fun. First of all, mana management kills the fun. In most fights, even small generic ones, you will run out of mana and you will need to run in circles and wait to do anything, even block or dodge as those are spells. There are “mana potions” but replenishing them is super tedious. Combat most of the time is annoying due to mana and the fact that enemies are swarming you and have all sorts of CC (knockdown, freeze, magic blocking). I would be OK with super fast combat if the player character was more responsive. Third thing, puzzles. A lot of them aren’t hard to figure out but a nightmare to execute. You need to stand in the exact spot and be turned by an exact angle otherwise you won't score the hit. Fourth thing, spell creation is very limited and you won’t be able to create anything fancy. It’s more about maxing out damage than being creative. And even if you’ll really try to be creative restrictive mana pool will kill the fun because it’s all about efficiency. Fifth and last complaint is about the story. On a high level there are some cool ideas with a bit of dark humor but execution is very questionable. Dialogues felt lifeless. Twists were predictable. Some parts were outright dumb just to make other parts better.
On the bright side, the game looks like an animated Asterix comic book which was a treat (there’s even a boar meat cooking). Some enemies are really creative and fun to fight with as they require a bit of thinking (gargoyle-cyclops is the best). I wish there were more of those rather than cannon fodder spam. Bosses were fun to fight. I also enjoyed the seal puzzles required to open doors.
I played the game on hard difficulty (Archmage) so maybe it’s less frustrating on normal. Unfortunately the game doesn’t allow to change it so I decided to go through after reaching 50% rather than starting a new run. I wanted to like this game but after it showied something cool it followed up with something frustrating so my whole experience was a rollercoaster that, in the end, I cannot recommend.

Good to know (no spoilers):
- If you want to give it a shot, choose the first difficulty. Extra things from “Archmage” aren’t worth the frustration.

It's a wizard game, so I have to give it SOME props. Obviously it's going to be fun for me specifically, which is why I'll probably play more of it even though I'm not reccomending it. I have a TL;DR at the bottom if you don't care that much, which is fair.

The reason why I'm giving it a thumbs down is because it is a SLOG to get through. The game prides itself on its spellcrafting, but you get about one thing to adjust your spells every hour. I can't adjust or work on my spells in the beginning of the game, and most of the early adjustions are basically just upgrades. Based on the progress bar which you can see in the save menu and how slow the progression is, I could assume it'd take around 40 hours to complete the game (i'm not gonna look this up bc honestly I don't care THAT much), and most of that is going to be talking to people and fighting. Oh, and walking from point A to point B. That takes a lot of time.

This would be fine and I would be okay with it IF the combat was quick, snappy, and challenging in very fun ways. It isn't really. You can't play offensively becuase you'll run out of mana and you can't play defensively because you simply cannot escape the melee enemies. The enemies also block you, so if you're cornered, you're boned. You'll get stunlocked and pelted with javelins before you can run away. Sucks.
In adition, the visuals are just hard to follow. Each level has about one color that it goes by and the game loves particle effects. On their own, those two are awesome! But both of those together, combined with the high camera angle, makes it HARD to SEE.
The thing that sort of saves the combat in my opinion is the afformentioned spellcrafting. It is VERY fun to make and name your own spells with different effects for different scenarios, and I'm willing to bet combat becomes EXTREMLY fun near the end. HOWEVER, the end is however many hours away and for the first real-life day worth of gameplay, you will have basically 5 spells, all of which feel ineffective because the enemies have so much HP and bodyblock you constantly.
That's not to mention the bosses. THE BOSSES. They are gimmicky, which is fine, and they're easy to figure out how to counter, which is fine and dandy, and which I would be 100% okay with if not for how DANG TANKY THEY ARE. They take FOREVER to go down, and some of them are activily difficult to deal damage do--- And they're SITILL tanky DESPITE THAT.

Again, this could be okay. The combat can be set to be easy. You don't HAVE to play in archmage mode, you can just enjoy the story! But the story is also not that great.
this is subjective so it's not that important but the story is basically "One mage was real bad and now everyone hates mages." It's a little undermined by the fact that there's a wizard sanctuary where the mage all live peacefuly and not under the fear of prosecution, all of your old friends still like you even though you turned into a wizard after exploding a building and killing multiple people, and the people that are terrified of wizards can be swayed by about 3 dialog boxes each.
That doesn't stop this seemingly cozy, bright game from being extremly mean to you. The mentor in the beginning was such an ass that I almost stopped playing from how much I hated him (not really, he's fine, but nobody likes him and his family deserves to be disintigrated). Every location you go to is bright and bubbly and ocasionally a little spooky, but all the dialog and information surrounding it is so sad that it just feels like the part of this game that wants to be cozy and bubbly and fun keeps clashing with the other section that wants to introduce some sort of brutal realism to this extremely cartoonish setting.

TL;DR: the game is incohesive, the combat is frustrating, and progression is incredibly slow.
I'd be shocked if this game was playtested by more than 3 people. i'm still going to play it because i CARVE for games about wizards CONSTANTLY and the few things that are done right are very nice, but i can't see many others having enough fun to play through the whole thing.

Na plus jest ciekawy system magii, w którym składamy zaklęcia z mniejszych kawałków. Jest sporo efektów i one działają zwykle zgodnie z oczekiwaniami, tzn. na przykład dodając efekt duplikacji do kuli ognia będziemy mieli czar, który rzuci kilka kul ognia naraz.

Na minus to przede wszystkim konstrukcja rozgrywki. Poruszamy się po świecie złożonym z plansz (np. las). Każda taka plansza ma umieszczonych przeciwników, którzy w nieskończoność się regenerują po każdym nowym załadowaniu planszy. Więc za każdym razem jak nasza postać pójdzie do sąsiedniej lokacji albo wczytamy grę albo zostaniemy pokonani to wszyscy przeciwnicy na danej planszy pojawią się ponownie. To kompletnie zabija uczucie progresu. Najlepszy sposób na przechodzenie gry to używanie zaklęcia do szybkiego poruszania i omijanie wszystkich przeciwników, których jesteśmy w stanie.

Ogólnie to powoduje, że gra jest powtarzalna i przez większość czasu przedzieramy się przez te same tereny i widzimy tych samych przeciwników. Sztucznie wydłuża to rozgrywkę. Nie pomaga tu też fakt, że od pewnego momentu nie ma większej logiki w tym, jakich przeciwników spotkamy. Więc jak spotkamy gobliny to będzie to od razu miks wszystkich rodzajów elementów i w szczególności któryś z goblinów zawsze będzie odporny na jeden z naszych czarów. Zestawy obecnie używanych czarów można zmieniać, ale w trakcie walki jest to irytujące. Co gorsza gra potrafi na nas rzucić przeciwników, na których nie mamy kontry (np. mamy 2 żywioły dostępne, a przeciwnik jest odporny na nie). To w połączeniu z odradzaniem się stworów powoduje, że w którymś momencie odechciewa się walki z tymi potworami.

Dodatkowo jeden z potworów blokuje możliwość rzucania zaklęć. Nie byłoby to złe, gdyby to było rzadkie spotkanie, ale jak już wspomniałem, od pewnego momentu zestawy potworów nie mają logicznego sensu i losowo w hordzie przeciwników do pokonania pojawia się taki, który blokuje zaklęcia. W grze o rzucaniu zaklęć nie możemy rzucać zaklęć...

Tworzenie czarów jest całkiem fajne, ale nowe skladniki czarów zdobywa się na tyle powoli, że po jakimś czasie to ja używałem praktycznie zawsze tego samego.

Podsumowując, pomysl na mechanikę gry jest całkiem fajny, ale konstrukcja świata i dziwne wybory techniczne powodują, że gra rodzi frustrację.

Aquí la magia no es un “hechizo de fuego y ya”: el chiste es combinar y ajustar conjuros para pelear y resolver rompecabezas.

La propuesta es clara: exploración, combate ligero pero constante, puzzles y una vibra de rol de acción sin inflarse como RPG eterno. Se siente como ese tipo de juego que te sonríe con colores bonitos y luego te empuja a un cuarto donde la puerta solo se abre si tu cerebro hace clic.

Primera impresión: “Qué lindo, qué tranquilo”… y de pronto estás rearmando tu build de hechizos porque el juego decidió que hoy vas a aprender a leer el entorno. Gracias, supongo.

Mages of Mystralia es de esos indies que se ganan el respeto por una idea clara: “si vas a ser mago, actúa como uno”. La combinación de acción, aventura y rompecabezas está bien amarrada, y cuando el sistema de hechizos hace clic, el juego se siente más inteligente que la mayoría de experiencias “aprieta para ganar”.

Ahora, lo controversial: que tenga 0 jugadores actuales no significa que sea malo… pero sí que llegas a una fiesta cuando ya están recogiendo los vasos. Aun así, 868 recomendaciones no aparecen por accidente: hay una base de gente que lo jugó, lo terminó y dijo “ok, esto vale la pena”.

Si te atrae la fantasía, un enfoque creativo de magia y puzzles que no te tratan como adorno, aquí hay una aventura muy competente. Si lo tuyo es acción sin pausas y sin pensar, este juego te va a “educar” a la fuerza.

A very earnest and solid video game.

I can't say anything about the atmosphere is particularly exceptional. The world, story, and characters are meh.

The 'main' draw of the spells is definitely interesting! And the progression is really quite good for the first half. These runes give some serious upgrades that feel great. And the puzzles are really quite good! Definitely fun to figure out and seeing the new options afforded by these spells.

The biggest criticism I'd give is that 90% of enemies can be 'solved' in the same way - especially after the midpoint. The magic system makes it so that most damage dealing methods are pretty equivalent - and in order to do more damage you must spend more mana. So even though new opportunities are afforded by new runes and spells - they don't really serve to change how you might play or deal with enemies. In the end, you are just trading mana for damage.

It would definitely be cool to see some more enemy variety or obstacles that reward players for having a diverse set of spells lined up. Or create more interesting/impactful runes.

Overall though I enjoyed myself. A solid 7.5/10.

Excellent game with pleasantly refreshing action mechanics. What it lacks in story (it is not bad - just ok) is made up for in every other area. Giving the player full control of how the attacks/actions behave is amazing, and using that control to solve puzzles is quite nice. If the player gets stuck they may interact with an object to help guide the puzzles (it does not give the solution away). Looking forward to the next entry in the series!

It could have been good had it not been for the animations being uninterruptable, meaning you cannot dodge or block on time.

Honestly, a pretty dope game. Never heard of it until it popped up on Humble Bundle then I saw that you could make your own spells and was sold. I'm an absolute slut for games that make me feel like how a mage is meant to feel. A legitimate mage would never settle for the arbitrary ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ of pre-defined spells. A fireball that travels in a singular straight line? Please... that's ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. I want a fireball that hits a target summons more fireballs that then in turn, summon even more fireballs.

Only drawback is that the random rune makes spells way too powerful. Oh, you mean I can kill the last wave of the Mage's Trial with two spells? Because with random, you can! Slap that badboy on a Creo path spell that summons more Creo paths and g ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ g... you've nuked [i]all[/i] of them.

cute idea, but it's completely half-baked. controls and combat are awkward, and QoL is non-existent. just a few examples: very limited fast travel, no way to manually save or load saves, no way to change difficulty, and no way to tell which things you are supposed to do now (and can get locked out of doing later) versus which things are impossible now and should be returned to later. small areas with frequent loading, and everything in an area resets everytime you enter or exit an area. for example, i beat the first boss, left the arena, walked back into the arena and had to fight him again.

also runes. you have to try a lot of combos to make a spell work how u want it to with the runes. its a little frustrating but fun. personally, i like it. but its def not for everyone.

Man, I gave this a bad review because the combat sucks ass, then I was like "okay but maybe i'm just not getting it", deleted the review, went back to play it for an hour, and now I'm back here. The combat is just really really unfun, and that's by far not the only problem. I'm 4-5 hours in and not a single one of the three spells I have is fun to use. They're all slow, they require me to stand in place, and half of the enemies don't even react to me when I hit them with anything and just keep pounding me.

You'd think that the spell combination mechanic could help me, but all I can do is make three copies of the same unfun spell (which is kinda useless if I'm already struggling defeating a single guy), or I can make the spell explode when it lands (I can't even tell if there's additional damage or if this is just for puzzles?). Or I can randomize the attributes for less mana consumption! Yippee! I can make them even more unreliable! I don't think I'm missing any crucial spell combos, I tried to explore as best I can. Man!

The puzzles are neat, where they're not awkwardly physics based – this game is not precise enough for physics-based puzzles. I could easily solve this one puzzle if I could just aim straight down, but I can't. It won't let me. I can't use the D-Pad, the D-Pad goes to the inventory. So I can't align directions precisely, but so many of the puzzles NEED me to be precise. What the hell?

And gameplay aside: Not that anyone even pretends to care, but the writing is incredibly generic. Not a single NPC and certaintly not the protagonist have a personality worth speaking of. I don't remember a single line of text, except one quest giver who asks you "Are you a mage?" and then runs away. That one was a bit funny. But everything else is so incredibly bland. It's hard to do anything but just press A all throughout the dialogues. I can't even tell if it's a problem with the writing, but I just don't feel any atmosphere building up.

One last gripe that's really a very specific thing but kinda informs you that a good player experience was just not taken seriously when developing this game: At one point in the game, you're told to go to city X. You're told this while right next to a teleporting waypoint. City X is right next to the teleporting waypoint. So what's a gamer to do? They use the waypoint. And from the teleporter, I walk to City X, and right after the loading transiiton into City X, there's a huge blockade that wasn't there before. Because I'm quite clearly not supposed to enter City X from the teleporter. I'm supposed to walk there from the side which does NOT have the waypoint. Oh my god. Why are you wasting my time?

And then I go there the intended way, and there's literally no reason that I couldn't have entered the city from the other direction! They just wanted me to walk? And, ya know, that wouldn't be an issue if traversing this game and the combat on the way were fun, but I refer you back to my first couple paragraphs.

The only upside are the visuals. It's a really pretty game! It has a super charming style that brings me right back to, like, Wind Waker and whatever. That is one of the reasons why I desperately tried to have fun with this game. But there's just not enough redeeming qualities beyond the pretty sights. It's such a shame. This is why this review is so long and rambly. I really wish this game had anything to it, and it's just mediocre enough that you could think it does, but only 4-6 hours in will you realize "ah ♥♥♥♥ i'm not having any fun at all, am I"

作为一款小型ARPG，虽然我挺喜欢这个游戏的，但只能给出勉强7.5到7.9分的评价（10分制），也就是良好有余，优秀不足。可玩可不玩。
长处，或者说特色，我认为有3点值得一提：①偏美式的卡通画风，场景的童话氛围挺足的；故事结构也很简单、很绘本。②魔法构筑系统，4元素和4种施法方式，结合不同的调整符文，可以自己构筑出很多特色魔法。③小支线、小解谜挺充足的，符合主题调性。
接下来就是明显的短板：①人物成长0+剧情一坨+：就一路做任务，看不到人物的心路成长；剧情甚至有没做完的嫌疑 ②魔法系统没有很好地跟剧情推动结合起来；同时很多调整符文毫无意义（说的就是向左向右你俩！），且自由度非常欠缺 ③引导不充分、UI不充分、装备深度没有好好开发。
考虑制作团队规模不大，这个游戏完成度有所欠缺是可以理解的，希望不要烂尾，能看到第二作（感觉几乎不可能）。

Simple top-down Action RPG with an interesting spellcrafting system that feels an awful lot like that of Path of Exile.

Combat is simple and relatively fun, but enemy design is lacking, and the bosses especially are extremely hit-or-miss. This is compounded by the spell system, which relishes in giving you a plethora of tools to modify your attacks but punishes your experimentation by massively increasing mana consumption and giving you very few ways to improve mana regeneration.

I saw the twist coming a mile away, but that's okay, that's just solid foreshadowing. Everything was just a nice little jaunt. A very good game, i got this free on the epic games store years ago, i played it a while on there and i liked it, but i have steam on a number of devices, so i bought it on steam, i now even have a physical copy too. Well if you like zelda, you should enjoy this, its about 50% zelda, 25% hogwarts and 25% its own thing. im surprised its not more liked, negatives slightly over populated with baddies and they level up, cant say i have found it fun killing them, im always trying to run away, its better than tunic, that also has the baddie problem, Nintendo seem to master bad guys well. so for zelda like its amazing, there withs Deaths Door, Tunic, Ocean Horn, Airoheart, Hogwarts, blossom tales.

不得不说，这种设计独创性是非常高的。至少在本人有限的游戏阅历里，还没有在其他游戏里见到类似的玩法。而且它的设计哲学也非常值得称道：玩家在游玩过程中收集到的每种符文，单看的话都并不强大，一些简单的组合，做出来的魔法效果也很一般。但掌握了诀窍以后，玩家可以化腐朽为神奇，配出各种超模的魔法来。

排除掉本作优秀的探索式设计、和独到的法术系统后，剩下的部分就乏善可陈了。

不过，这些显然都只是一些小小的瑕疵而已。本作的完成度无可指摘，几乎感受不到不少独立游戏都有的那种“没做完”的半吊子气息。这就已经相当难得了。本作当年在Kickstarter上发起过众筹，因此，在游戏里也能看到不少墓碑、雕像之类的，这些都是众筹回报。

本作在处理众筹回报的方式上，是比较妥当、得体的。这些众筹要素都不会影响玩家的正常游玩体验、了解它们的内容对游玩本作而言也不是必须的。当然，本作其实也算有一点年头了。如果本人当年有机会发现本作的众筹的话、我自认为我应该会愿意支持这部作品。

[h1]另类收集：探索式游戏的核心玩法[/h1]
如果说要找一部和本作最相像的游戏，笔者第一个想到的、就是一部老游戏，由EA发行的《哈利波特》系列。本人只玩过这个系列的前三作（到《阿兹卡班的囚徒》为止），对它的印象是非常好的。尤其是第二部《密室》，无论是游戏设计、还是完成度上，都达到了这三部作品的巅峰。从《火焰杯》开始，这个系列的美术风格、玩法都有了很大的变化，因此笔者就没有继续游玩后面的作品了。

《哈》就是一部典型的探索式游戏。玩家需要探索错综复杂的霍格沃茨学院，用魔法触发各种各样的机关，还要经历各种各样的平台跳跃、攀爬、躲避怪物和陷阱。游戏还设置有一些小游戏环节，最令人印象深刻的、是它的“潜入”游戏。例如，《魔法石》里，哈利波特就需要穿着隐形衣、躲避费尔奇，途中为了解谜用出的任何魔法，都会吸引费尔奇和他的猫过来查看，这个环节的游玩体验就很紧张有趣。游戏还设计了几个boss战，无论是第一部的伏地魔战、还是第二部的蛇怪战，都相当的有意思，而且玩法还不重复。

本作和《哈》系列的相似性是非常高的。并且，由于本作诞生于更晚的世代，它的解谜性，其实比《哈》还要丰富，游戏中利用地形解谜的设计比比皆是，还经常需要用魔法、到达常规情况下不会到达的秘密区域。由于时代和机能的限制，《哈》的解谜方式就远远没有本作自由。

另一个让本作和《哈》产生联系的，是奖励机制的设计。《哈》一个最重要的、有趣的地方，就是在迷宫里设计了很多像彩蛋一样的秘密区域，并且在其中放置了[u]巫师卡[/u]。玩家稍不留神、可能就会永远错过这些收集要素。在游玩过程中，玩家可以随时检查已经收集到的巫师卡，并且在游戏结尾的时候，会有一个巫师卡结算环节，决定玩家能不能看到一段隐藏剧情。本作的设计、可以说正是得到了《哈》的神髓。不同于《哈》的巫师卡（纯粹的收藏品），本作的收集要素都相当有用，要么是加HP/MP上限这类道具，要么是重要的魔法符文。玩家取得这些道具的正反馈，比《哈》的收集要素还要高。

然而，在另一些方面，就可以看出本作与《哈》这种成熟商业作品之间的距离。《哈》不是纯粹地让玩家探索地图而已，它的关卡设计相当明显。某些游戏关卡在结束后，会有一个小的结算环节，对玩家的表现进行评分，甚至能决定玩家能不能进入奖励环节。不要小看这些设计，它让游戏的主线剧情，本身就带上一些“挑战”要素，是比本作单独设计一个用来游玩挑战关卡的“[i]法师塔[/i]”更高明的，因为《哈》的挑战贯穿整个游戏环节，是没法“逃课”的。反观本作的挑战关卡，它开放的时候游戏已经到了末期，玩家只要配出超模的魔法，就可以轻松破关，实际上背离了游戏设计的初衷。

《哈》还有一个比本作高明的地方，是它不断转换的游玩模式。在《哈》推进剧情的流程中，玩家的游玩目标、甚至玩法细节，会经常发生变化，就像前面提到的那样，玩家可能会经历潜入、搜集物品、参加魁地奇比赛等各种各样的、不同于“主要的探索玩法”本身的游戏体验。不得不说，哪怕谜题设计得再精妙，在这种数值成长大大弱化的RPG里，玩家获得的正反馈是有点不足的，从而产生游戏疲劳。如果游戏中能穿插一些变化，这会大大丰富游戏的层次，本作在这一方面还有所欠缺。

[h1]散而不精：略显平庸的难度设计[/h1]
前面已经提到，本作的难度设计是略显不足的。从一部普通ARPG的角度来审视本作，其实它的设计没什么问题，某些ARPG，例如《百英雄传：崛起》设计得还不如本作。但我要说的是，[b]恰恰是对于本作而言，只是及格的boss设计，是明显不够的[/b]。这是由于，本作的魔法、随着符文的收集，成长得非常明显。作者在设计地图探索的时候，其实是有考虑到这种成长的。可惜，本作的boss战设计，就与魔法的成长割裂得比较明显了。

对于本作而言，理想的boss设计应该要做到，和魔法的成长匹配且契合。例如，玩家在某个阶段，拿到了某个关键符文，那么这个符文，应该要对关底的boss产生特攻才对。一个好的设计，甚至应该要做到“初见杀”的效果。玩家在第一次体验这个boss的时候，由于还不了解它，随意装备了魔法，但是这样做无论如何也无法战胜boss。于是，这迫使玩家思考，如何调整正确的魔法组合，来对症下药地解决问题。例如，完全可以设计这样一个boss，它的行动特别迅捷，以至于寻常的攻击几乎无法命中它，只有带有锁定、跟踪效果的闪电能有效命中boss，且这恰恰是boss的弱点。这就会让这场boss战变得有趣得多。

笔者认为，这种解谜性、对boss设计而言是十分有必要的。至少本作的挑战关卡、应该要有这种程度的游玩体验才对。甚至、为了游戏性，应当对玩家的魔法做出一些限制也在所不惜。比如，《伊苏2》的时间魔法，就是一个很超模的魔法，但它取得的时间点已经在大后期了，而且对应的boss会直接禁止玩家用出这个魔法。对于本作而言，用强力的魔法，对小怪摧枯拉朽、完全是没问题的。但boss、尤其是挑战boss，则应该更注重策略性，而不应让玩家一力降十会，用一种万能的策略轻松通关。

I tried to like this game but whenever I sat down to play it, I never felt like I was having fun. I really enjoyed the spell creation. That mechanic of the game is sweet. The art style is cute and the atmosphere is charming. It does a lot of things right and checks a lot of boxes for me. The reason I can't recommend it is because I felt like the combat just wasn't very fun. Weird because I really enjoyed making different spells and trying them out. I don't know maybe the enemies and death were too punishing? I felt like every time I died and respawed it was a chore to make my way back to where I was. Enemies' ranged attack aim is insanely good. It's hard to see them too when there's a lot on the screen. If you DO see it, it's often too late if you're not already moving because of the clunky controls. I feel a simple dodge roll with a few iframes would have really helped the flow of combat feel better. I know there's a spell you can make that acts like a dash but swapping spells mid combat can be clunky. Also I know you can make a shield spell, BUT when there's a ton of ranged attacks coming at you you'd need to continuously block and it just drains your magic.

I'm usually one to finish games. It's rare I quit in the middle of a game but if a short game like this doesn't grasp my attention in 9 hours, I doubt the ending is going to blow me away and turn my opinion of it around.

The combat isn't fun, and there's a lot of it. There's a lot of lag between your own attacks, and dodging attacks when my character moves so slowly means I often can't attack when one enemy is vulnerable because another enemy is hurling a javelin at me. So the combat ends up feeling slow and dragged out, even for early game enemies.

Perhaps I could overlook it and play on, but the graphics are only decent (they're not bad imo, but nothing amazing), the setting and all the NPCs are uninteresting...

If the game delivered on its promise of allowing me to design my own spells, it would probably make the combat more fun, but I'm about two hours into the game and I haven't unlocked anything that makes fighting all that different; I can take some potshots at enemies before they get to me with the fireball, and my melee attack is a little bigger. I tried making interesting combinations to make the combat fun, like using Homing on the Fire spell to make something like a proximity mine, but it takes too much effort for something that ends up being inconsistent compared to just hitting things with the melee attack.

Fun, short, combat and puzzle game with its gimmick being its spellcrafting system.

I would recommend this game for its dynamic spellcrafting system alone, but the visuals are beautiful also with its cartoony art style and the puzzles are pretty fun. I also feel like the world-building has a lot of potential.

However, the game has some pretty big game design flaws that take away from the experience. First of all, even though the spellcrafting system is amazing, you don’t really get access the tools to really start utilizing it until after the 3rd boss, like at least 4 hours into the game. Yeah, you get a rune here and there that helps you solve some puzzles, but overall it takes quite a long time before you can really have a lot of fun with it. As a result of not getting access to many good tools early, combat early on is pretty brutal and attack timings are too tight. You wouldn’t expect it from a game that looks as cartoony as this, but it’s actually pretty hard in the beginning and I feel that that could drive potential players away from getting to the mid and late game, which is really where it gets super fun. The fast travel system also is not that expansive, so travel is a little tedious, but that’s minor for me.

Since this is the studio’s first game, I’m willing to give them a pass on these issues. Especially because their next game, Echoes of Mystralia, looks really good and takes the good parts from this game.

I’m excited to see the studio develop their next game and explore another game in the universe of Mystralia!

Very easy game to 100% complete, especially if you use the spellcrafting system to its fullest potential to create insanely powerful spells. Highly recommend going for all achievements.

It's a truly enjoyable experience. The standout feature for me was its unique magic system, which lets you create your own spells by combining different runes. It’s incredibly satisfying to experiment and find new ways to solve puzzles and approach combat.

However, one downside is the lack of a journal to track your progress. When I had to take a break and return to the game, it was challenging to pick up where I left off without any guidance or notes on previous objectives. That made it a bit harder to re-engage with the game.

Despite this, I unlocked all the achievements and enjoyed exploring every corner of the world.

Verdict: Having played from start to finish and unlocked all the achievements, I can confidently say it’s a magical and rewarding adventure worth experiencing.

Mages of Mystralia is an Action Adventure RPG about the mage Zia who ventures on a journey of magic full of hurdles in a kingdom where magic is considered forbidden.

The game offers a rune system where you can create multiple and different spells that matches your own play style. The game story was amazing and I enjoyed following it to the end.

The game was made in 2017 and I don't regret playing it in 2025 as I found out about it recently, the design of the game was flawless, I didn't encounter any bugs or issues during my playthrough.

Top notch music and world that will keep you hooked to play more and more, I loved the boss fights, each single one was unique and had a nice design. You need to use different strategies to beat each boss which makes it challenging yet fun at the same time.

Thank you Borealys Games Studio for giving me the opportunity to play this amazing Gem, they also have an upcoming game "Echoes of Mystralia" currently in development which I'm sure it will be amazing same as this.

Very Recommended for RPG Action Adventure Genre Fans. Overall Rating 10/10

Mages of Mystralia - довольно короткая и увлекательная приключенческая игра, с множеством головоломок и возможностью создавать свои заклинания.

Возможность создавать свои заклинания это конечно сильно сказано. На самое дела можно усложнять заклинания различным образом, например если придать огненному шару эффект движения, то это уже дальнобойная атака, а если добавить эффект самонаведения, то ещё и наводящаяся на противника. И так можно усложнять заклинания в плоть до тройного огненного шара который сам наводится на цель, и срабатывает несколько раз или клон, который отвлекает врагов и взрывается расталкивая их. В общем большой простор для творчества, вот только чем сложнее заклинание, тем больше оно требует маны, так что лучше знать меру.

В игре также множество головоломок, большинство решаются с помощью заклинаний. Для облегчения есть подсказки, которые могут сразу сказать, нашли вы нужные руны для решения головоломки или нет, а за плату дают и больше подсказок. Руны - и есть то, что может усложнять заклинания. Кстати, подозреваю, что некоторые головоломки можно решить и не так, как задумывалось разработчиком. Есть так же и графические головоломки. А так же по мере прохождения разнообразие магий растет, и позволяет попадать в ранее недоступные места.

В целом прохождение довольно линейное, а сюжет не впечатляет. Но локации довольно приятные. Сражения достаточно динамичные и не слишком простые, вы как маг слабы в ближнем бою. Но многое будет зависеть о того, насколько эффективные заклинания вы создали.

В целом, хорошая игра.

A Great little title! If you like games that encourage a bit of thinking and creativity, then this game will suit you just fine! Mages of Mystralia allows you to combine different effects for spells and elements to create unique yet simple to master sorcery from your staff which is the main highlight of this game.

The spell creation is not overly complicated. It is simple to understand and pick up while also providing enough depth for you to conjurate some very destructive and chaotic incantations. At first, the game can feel closed and limited due to the nature of the start of the game. You don't have a lot of spells to cast or much to do but as you progress on your adventure and explore the land, you get to unlock new effects that allow you to start making concoctions to solve world puzzles or aid you in combat. The story is pretty short and simple, I feel like it lacked a little in that department as in some ways it felt like a very stereotypical plot many indie games go for. There are some highlights however and it was decent enough for you to not shrug it off. [spoiler]I did not like the ending though, it ended with an unresolved cliffhanger that seems like they were meant to continue it on a sequel but looking into the next game, it does not look like it will continue the story nor the gameplay of this title.[/spoiler]. The game also has a few bugs, like when you use your controller, the wrong prompt can show up. However, this games main focus was spell casting and that alone was engaging and fun.

I recommend it to anyone who is curious in playing this and likes the idea of being able to create magic in unique ways or is just looking for a somewhat cozy yet enjoyable experience.

Bought this to tide me over until Echoes of Mystralia because that gameplay demo was [i]brilliant[/i]. Loved the concept of spell switching in Echoes and assumed that enjoyment would carry over here, the game looked cute, and it was on sale for $5.

Honestly, while I can see why people enjoy the game, I don't think it's worth the money I spent on it. It feels less like I'm fighting enemies and solving puzzles, and more like I'm fighting the game itself to try to progress. The controls feel clunky, I've played almost 3 hours and still feel like nothing particularly interesting has unlocked, and enemy encounters are largely "throw 5 different creatures at you while you run around looking for a split second to let off a spell and desperately hope you didn't mistime it or someone's gonna CC you and you lose 1/3 of your health immediately." Given how clunky the movement is as well as both the length of your spells' cast times and an inability to animation cancel, you spend more time running around because the brief seconds you have when you open up some distance between enemies and yourself isn't quiiite enough to cast anything. I don't think I've actually died more than twice, so it's not so much that it's [i]hard[/i]. I haven't really felt much challenge in these encounters. It's just tedious and a bit of a chore to deal with, which is IMO the worst sin a game with so much of its game time dedicated to combat can have. The exception to the general obnoxiousness of enemy encounters are the bosses, of which I've fought 3 or 4 by now, which I think are the high point of the game for me.

As to the puzzles in this game, there's been 2 or 3 times I've been [i]sure[/i] I knew what the game was wanting me to do, but I just couldn't manage to make Zia do it. So I figured, hey, I'm probably missing something and trying to do this the hard way, let's check out some YouTube videos — only to see that, no, I'm doing everything right, the game just expects you to be pixel-perfect while Zia controls like a drunken panda. That's an exaggeration, but not as much of one as it really should be for a game that's so focused on it's puzzles and platforming. As with combat, it feels like the difficultly is less in the actual ingenuity of the puzzle — they're for the most part pretty basic — but with getting the clunky controls to actually respond in the manner you want them to.

To end on a positive note, I'm shocked by how much better Echoes feels to play than Mages, props to the dev team for really stepping up their game!! While this one isn't for me, I can already tell this is a developer to keep an eye on.

Это небольшое приключение часов на 6 если не особо соваться во все углы. У меня ушло ~11 часов по внутриигровому времени на зачистку 100%, что в целом не то чтобы много.

Сюжет довольно тривиален: у главной героини пробудились магические силы и её изгнали из деревни, потому что маги сейчас вне закона. Её подбирает община магов, даёт ей задания которые должен выполнять маг, но главный двигатель её обучения - это книга заклинаний.
Во-первых, книга говорящая и объясняющая происходящее вокруг. А во-вторых, в ней мы собираем, изменяем и записываем различные комбинации того, что может помочь в бою или исследовании локаций. Также мы выбираем какие конкретно из этих заклинаний мы готовы использовать прямо сейчас.

В целом это своего рода Метроид, Магика и Нойта в одном флаконе. Не от всех этих игр было взятое лучшее, но по порядку:

[*]Метроид - локации здесь зачастую имеют некоторые ограничения, снять которые можно только умением с другой локации. Почти всё время тебя зовут в одну конкретную локацию по сюжету, а во все остальные смысла соваться и так нет, потому что там будут ограничения, снимаемые именно умением с той локации куда тебя зовут. [spoiler] (Взрыв для пролома камней можно получить в ледяном пике, можете не обыскивать каждый угол до этого момента) [/spoiler]
[*]Магика - на ходу собираешь себе свой же арсенал заклинаний, которые порой ведут себя... забавно. Как и в Магике, когда начинается бой, ты просто выкидываешь на поле боя то, что у тебя заготовлено, и по мере продвижения по игре от этого начинает происходить всё больший хаос. Иметь можно не более 4 типов готовых к применению заклинаний (удар, снаряд, земля, игрок - ЛКМ, ПКМ, шифт и пробел соответственно), однако прямо во время боя их можно совершенно без проблем в паузе заменить на другие или пересобрать. Тем самым нивелируется проблема противников с защитой от твоего любимого заклинания - просто поменяй его и вперёд.
[*]Нойта - разнообразие кастуемых заклинаний и принцип их создания. Из самого простого - если к огненному шару присоединены руны "размер" и "серия", то будут выпускаться 3 крупных огненных шара, однако если соединить "размер" к огненному шару через руну "серия", то увеличится уже количество до 5, но не их размер. Главный ограничитель фантазии игрока - это что каждую руну можно использовать лишь раз в одном заклинании, а так же трата маны при использовании или триггере любого заклинания. Ах да, триггеры...

Помните, я писал выше, что заклинания можно записывать заранее? Руна-триггер - это способ активировать любое заклинание из книги, даже если оно не активно. Можно даже это же самое заклинание. Кинули огненый шар с авто-наведением и отскоком в противника - хорошо. А как на счёт того, чтобы при попадании вылетал ещё такой же? Секунд через 5 бедолага будет буквально покрыт сетью этих огненных шаров отскакивающих от него в него же (если будет ещё жив или соседи не переманят часть шаров на себя). А ещё у вас не будет маны на каст чего-либо, потому что думать надо, что выкидываешь на поле боя.

Конечно же, первые 40% игры у игрока попросту не так много рун, чтобы собрать что-то весёлое, с 40% по 70% как раз самое время развлекаться и экспериментировать, ну а последние 30%... Там открываются просто несправедливые механики замены стихии у разных типов заклинаний. Несправедливые они для игрока, потому что будь они доступны сразу или хотя бы в половину времени раньше - игра определённо стала бы в разы бодрее, забавнее и быстрее.

К сожалению, главный минус игры - это её затянутость. Локации большие, а телепорты стоят буквально лишь в трёх из них и более того, пользоваться можно только находясь на одном из них. В итоге бег по пересечённой местности без особых способов ускориться кроме рывка... Долго и не весело. Сглаживает эту проблему респавн врагов на каждом повороте, так что хотя бы не просто бежишь, а порой ещё откидываешься какими-нибудь заклинаниями.

Очевидно, любой игрок просто найдёт себе любимое заклинание и будет его спамить до конца игры с минимальными дополнениями, но к счастью тут встречаются комнаты испытаний, где нужно подобрать конкретную комбинацию и поведение заклинания, что даёт повод собрать себе в арсенал что-нибудь новенькое.

Отдельно хочу похвалить оптимизацию, несмотря на использование Юнити, проблем не возникало вообще ни разу, какое бы месиво ни творилось на экране. Звуковое сопровождение норм, озвучка нейтральная, а не английская, так что слова можно услышать только в катсценах.

Вот в общем-то и всё. Игра звёзд с неба не хватает, есть небольшие недочёты, но в целом достаточно хороша, чтобы пройти её хотя бы раз.

Mages of mystralia è un gioco a doppia faccia. Fin da subito una grafica accattivante e il sistema iniziale delle magie cattura , facendo scorrere molto bene il gioco nelle prime battute, rappresentando un buon indie action.

La narrazione di sfondo , seppur semplice , scorre e accompagna il giocatore, con mappe ben realizzate e qualche interessante puzzle.
Il gameplay si basa completamente sulle magie, seppur basilari, ma i problemi del gioco iniziano proprio quando si iniziano ad ottenere piu' incantesimi da usare, e soprattutto da creare attraverso un inutilmente complicato sistema di rune.

Confusionario. Non saprei come descrivere diversamente la situazione. Tra improbabili e continue aperture dal menu per selezionare i diversi tipi di magie, per passare a semplici nemici spugne che necessitano di veramente troppi colpi.
Questione boss , qui tutti i problemi descritti in precedenza vengono fuori ancora piu' chiaramente, tra pattern impossibili, e un inspiegabile sezione "rogue like " finale per mischiare ancor di piu' le meccaniche.

Mages of Mystralia è un enorme spreco, parte in maniera interessante, per poi sparire sotto le sue stesse idee, molto confuse, di gameplay.

Plays like a top-down Zelda game with magic spells instead of a sword, bow, and bombs, with puzzles, exploration, etc. One of the big twists I saw coming from basically at the beginning of the game (the protagonist has something in common with another certain redhead from a famous magic school book series insofar as she's learning a very similar, almost identical lesson, only she's not the one at risk oddly enough); kinda wish the game was bigger but oh well not a lot of logical room to squeeze in more areas.

Unfortunately the game didn't keep me interested past 50% of the story done. I like the graphics and ideas but the implementation is lacking. Designing your own spells sounds great until you only really need one spell for fighting and this one spell gives you huge mana issues. So you run around in circles and wait for your mana to refresh to shoot again. Monsters have different immunities so it gets even more tedious to deal with them. Also trying out the different spell options takes time and the names often don't make sense. You need to try everything out to see how it behaves and switching spells mid fight is not that easy.
The other thing that gets more and more annoying is the constant running between areas with the loading screens. You only have teleports in a handful areas, everything else is (slow) foot work. As monsters respawn, you have to deal with them over and over again. On top of that it's often not clear what to do next. So yeah, I had a little fun at first but ultimately I don't want to finish the game anymore.
