A profound religious horror VN that dives into the trauma those of us who weren't "right" growing up in the church ended up with. This is such a beautiful game that visualizes the different "evils" that made each of us "wrong" and "bad"; it's truly such a great way to address the feeling of embracing your true self versus forcing yourself to be what you're not... for the God over the radio. I highly recommend this game for anyone that has ever felt like they weren't "good" enough in their religion, weren't "acceptable", and were just born "wrong". Those of us that Know The Devil.
Play this if you've ever wanted to feel called out about that specific bisexual crush you had at your Christian summer camp (you know the one... with the hair? and those eyes? yeahhhhhhh you got it!) <3

I was reluctant to give this game a shot b/c the plot "summer camp + gender/identity trouble" and reviews praising particular characters somehow suggested this was just another dating sim. Gladly, it's not. Not at all.
The story is hard to grasp, and I think it's even harder for persons like me whose mother tongue isn't English, and how cannot really relate to the problems described there at the level they deserve either - the writing is rather abstract and metaphorical. That said, against all odds WKTD manages to be profound where you'ld expect it to become pretentious, and all the symbolism makes you thinking.
It's an intriguing experience when you're willing to spend like two hours to see all endings and struggle to understand what the protagonists (and the story) are trying to convey.

This Visual Novel has taken over my mind and I love it. The characters feel so interesting and complex and the story, worldbuilding, and interactions leave me intrigued and reflect the queer experience so, so well. I love it so much and I think it is a must read for anyone whom is queer or anything outside of the norm.
A very short game, but absolutely worth playing through. It is difficult to speak about this game without giving away too much, but it deals with themes of representation and diverging from the norm in a thought provoking way, including addressing some uncomfortable ideas. The music is a bit too loud at times, even at the lowest sound setting, and the script has a few typos, but these are minute points. If you're buying We Know The Devil, it's to enjoy a very well written story, and that's exactly what you'll get.

I first played this game a few years ago. during that time I had a queer friend group, and I recommended them to play this game. my friend (let's call them M) absolutely loved it and even drew some sketches of tattoos we should get that are inspired by this game, but at the time we never got the chance to. M has unfortunately passed away in late 2024, and in 2025 I got the tattoo they drew for me. this game is so meaningful to me for so many different reasons, and now I carry a piece of it on my body that was drawn by my dear friend. please play WKTD. you won't regret it.

This has been my favorite game for 5 years, it genuinely changed the way I view the queer experience and gave me a lot of clarity about my own identity. 100% recommend if you want a story that highlights the struggles of being a queer teen while also offering a glimmer of hope.

Lifechanging
The dialog might feel a bit *too* realistic at first (im old), but for how short and minimalistic it is there's more to unpack here than in the last 3 AAA games I've played combined. And while a handful of branch picks aren't the most complex interaction, reading between the lines is the real gameplay here and makes quick replays actually pretty worth it.

WKtD is an absolute punch in the gut and a super great piece of writing. It feels incredibly like 3 teenagers having conversations that have little point but tons of coming-of-age and selfhood MEANING to them. It also feels ethereal, and strange, and not quite like our world. The music and art do a fantastic job of communicating that tone, too.
Also, it's like, one dollar. This is a short story you should read.
Short VN to play through (TBF, may just be because I read really fast), but one that absolutely ripped my heart out. I think this game will mean so much to anyone who's queer, anyone raised in a Christian household, anyone who likes magical girls... Ngl, at first I did not enjoy the game. I was bored, very confused (and still am about some things in the story- like how the "radios" work and what the characters are supposed to be doing, the scenario in which they are in, what's happening in certain parts, etc. Needs more context or visuals to help). Also in the beginning, the dialogue was either confusing, or cringy, or felt unnecessary / repetitive. Also the body horror at the end was not my cup of tea but ya know, metaphors and sh*t so I can't really hate on that.
HOWEVER,
I did enjoy each ending, I enjoyed the religious trauma themes, the queer themes, I loved the god/devil dialogue, and the philosophical and deep conversations between characters later on. Loved the music and sounds (although it was a bit loud, to warn yall) and loved the visuals/ the art / the background pictures.
OVERALL, the game needs some work but it is still good and the message of the story was beautiful and good. I would not recommend this to everyone. But those in the queer community with religious trauma, the people who will get it, I do recommend.
Doesn't take too long to get all the endings/achievements. Maybe an hour or two with being able to skip previously read dialogue.
incredible game that does a good job of discussing the horror yet comfort in queer identities and personal struggles going hand in hand yet having a small community to uphold you still. a fun balancing act for the ability to accomplish every ending but still quite feasible without much issues. i was able to complete every achievement and scene within 88 minutes without any guide and its something that i can see myself replaying to piece even more of the symbolic themes together
maybe the real horrors were turning an awesome lesbian story into a snoozefest

I wish this game had hooked me a lot more than it did, but whatever it attempts to do by mixing reality and surrealism to deliver its queer metaphors ends up feeling rushed and confusing instead of eloquent and emotionally strong. I had really high expectations for this, but boy oh boy, this game really tried something highbrow and maybe with a better writing, it could've nailed it. Aesthetics-wise, it really is adorably well-done, it looks nostalgic and the art is excelent, a shame the prose tries so hard to prove itself worthy of its own themes by over complicating itself instead of a more natural flow, that would definitely read as more authentic. All in all, a shame, because I do think it had potential to be an incredible gem.
I really enjoy the gameplay set up of this VN and how easy it is to grasp the ‘mechanic.’ Even early on choices make such a big difference in how the stories play out, the resolution of each character. We Know the Devil really explores abstract themes of ‘fighting evil’ and what knowing one’s self truly means. I really enjoy it for that, and I think others will too.
Found out the devs released an update removing a Harry Potter reference from the game and the patch notes said "♥♥♥♥ JK Rowling." That alone is worth my six dollars and sixty-six cents.
The true ending made me cry so bad. Like sobbing crying. Beautiful.
A game about Christian guilt and failing at being good for God even though you're miserable.
Best enjoyed when you're trying to parse the themes and hidden meanings in characters' dialogue, the world/lore in this VN is obtuse so don't expect to get a loredump on how everything works. Just read the vibes, feel out the story and what it means to you.
This is a short, sweet queer game about religious trauma and how it affects queer lives. All that, plus some body horror. I had some UI issues with the game, and sometimes the story confused me, but I cannot complain about the rest of the experience. It's the MOOD that comes through and that's what really matters.

Favourite game ever
Seriously this is kinda the pinnacle of queer visual novels. It's short, amazing soundtrack, amazing art, and the writing has rewired my brain. I sincerely recommend this to any gay friend who likes art and is slightly annoying.
Patti Smith started her first album singing "Jesus died for somebody's sins but not mine". This is a brilliant game about the advice we give to kids. It's also about friendship and salvation. And just like Patti Smith's lyrics, I don't see this game as being necessarily about faith, much less religion.
The game has a couple bugs (tip: avoid loading saves if you can, each run should take an hour at most). It's great, but it's not perfect, just like you, and just like each of the characters. What is perfect, IMO, is the soundtrack. Do not mute it.
It's not a long game, you can probably get all endings in 2 or 3 hours. Its story and themes will stick with you though.

Simultaneously one of the most heartbreaking and heartwarming games I've ever played. The writing for each character is superb, and comes together to show a detailed picture of them all over the separate playthroughs despite the game being otherwise very short. It is not too short though: it is as long as it needs to be.

Another good bite-sized indie visual novel. Writing is very poetic, mostly good with just a few clunky moments. The themes are also *very* earnest and on-the-nose, but I expect that from a teen coming-of-age type story... it didn't exceed my tolerance range. I especially enjoyed the surreal magical-realist world-building and the Sailor Moon references ♥
This game was really entertaining to play through. Not too long to where it would drag, but not short in the way that it'd feel like the overall story needed more. My only gripe was that there wasn't much (if any) deviation between the multiple endings outside of the scenes where you are choosing a specific route. I like the art style behind this visual novel, I think of it as unique, and while the music had a small tendency to break the immersion, when it compliments a scene instead of hijacking it, it creates some of the highest highs this game has to offer. Going into this, I wasn't expecting to be hugely blown away by the story. But at times, I was surprised with how much I liked the main three characters. Overall this was a swift, fun, touching, visual novel.

Honestly? a little underwhelming. Maybe im biased or just not the target audience. Wasnt a bad VN but the story didnt really click for me and i didnt like how all the decisions were just the symbols and not the names. for a game thats tagged LGBTQ+ it could have been gayer. Maybe i did a wrong decision, maybe i need to do every route to understand but the first route didnt grab me unfortunately so i guess ill just never know.

really resonated with me, but this game is not for everyone. i don't really think the screenshots on the store page do it justice. grounded and supernatural. i remember starting this game on call with some friends expecting it to just be another bad visual novel, but the more i played it the more i was engrossed - i finished it privately and walked away from it impacted

this game turned me into a woman
The concept, art and themes were great and had loads of potential but unfortunately it was let down by the writing. The change of tense and speaking character is confusing and some of the writing felt obtuse for the sake of it. I understood a lot of the themes but the execution was a bit poor. It was hard at times to know who talking and it could have improved by either having one sprite on screen at a time, the characters have their symbol on them somewhere or colour to distinguish them more easily.

The cover artwork does this intimate story no justice at all. It is brilliantly written. Immersive and unstoppable you will hang on every word for 55 minutes and then want to go again to explore each character deeper. Per my title, not my usual subject matter, and not my area of experience at all. I leaned a lot. Most of all you will like how the characters all start to speak in different voices even though it's just text. You will quickly learn their names, not that names are not really anything less than labels in the real world these kids live in. And then you can despise the chicken head Captain, he almost broke it for me. Hilarious as the chicken head is, this is a very serious game.

Artistically interesting, with things to say and the confidence in its reader to figure it out. It's short, so it doesn't overstay its welcome. It's been a while since I've played it, but people interested in LGBT stories with a religious or generally esoteric feeling should try this out. Personally, I think it hits the right balance of transparency. It's not particularly scary, but the art and photos are a good artistic choice.
Simple, beautiful, atmospheric and yes, very, very queer.

Sin embargo, la verdadera naturaleza de esta entidad es una pieza clave para desvelar el significado de los conceptos de “maldad” y “bondad” en este corto videojuego y cómo estos se vinculan —o rehúyen— a Venus, Jupiter y Neptune, adolescentes vulnerables víctimas de un trauma religioso, incapaces de poder sentirse en armonía con sus propios cuerpos o de relacionarse sin dejarle un hueco al Diablo entre ellos sin querer. No provocan grima en mí, sino ternura y compasión.

We Know the Devil sabe representar muy bien la experiencia de ser un adolescente LGBT en conflicto consigo mismo y especialmente con su entorno, como si no fuera más que un defecto en el seno de una sociedad ultrarreligiosa que los mira con malos ojos. Si bien es cierto que su escritura está muy lejos de ser perfecta, me recuerda mucho a Umineko no Naku Koro ni en el sentido de que derrocha pasión y sinceridad, como si quien lo haya escrito hubiera tenido la repentina necesidad de arrancarse todas esas emociones del pecho, logrando plasmar la vulnerabilidad emocional que oprime a sus protagonistas en el muy sentido texto.
Feel like this is what happens when you internalize God a little too much, you start making unreal things real just to feed into your shame. I couldn't 100% understand what was happening with all the "sirens" and stuff, though. I guess I figured it was an elaborate make-believe setup by the camp, which is kinda cool in a way. I liked the characters and dialogue. Neptune is indeed very cool.
Edit: Ok, I went and got all the other endings, including the true ending. I'm picking up what they're putting down. This was a great queer story about overcoming shame and being true to yourself. Also, something Neptune says at one point stuck with me a bit. Along the lines of "you can't be thinking you're not a good person when you hate yourself, only someone who is good would hate themself so much."

There is no love stronger than when outsider girls meet through no will of their own and then just kind of decide to stick together anyways. This game could very well be an inspiration for Lost Records: Bloom & Rage, and that is ultimate praise.

On my first playthrough of this game, I couldn't help but feel a bit… lost. The game keeps presenting you with choices comprising two characters whose immediate and long-term consequences are entirely unclear. Aside from those, it has very casual yet often cryptic dialogue full of Christian motifs (I'm agnostic) and rather frequent typos. The writer was clearly enjoying themselves communicating as those teenagers, but it makes it a bit challenging to discern intentional plot points from quirky humor. As a result, the (red) ending feels quite abrupt, and I couldn't entirely discern how my choices led to it. However, I was already really appreciating the game's artwork.
After looking up a completion guide, the reason for my first ending became more apparent, and I also started to enjoy the writing of the other routes quite a bit more. Exploring all the different dialogues that emerge as you make the choices and piecing together information about the characters actually became fun! The highlight of the rest of the game, however, was definitely the true ending: the game finally tells you what it is actually about while resolving everyone's conflict, and it's so much more explicit and beautiful than I had been hoping for.
While I absolutely think that the intransparency about the effects of your decisions is part of what defines this game, I can't exactly claim to have had fun in the beginning before looking up the guide and I think it may have been beneficial to follow the more traditional approach of having the story diverge before the ending. I understand that it's very much possible to 100% the game without one if you experiment enough, but I clearly didn't have the patience.

We Know the Devil es una visual novel tremendamente evocadora, que trata un tema muy importante de una manera enternecedora. Y consigue hacerlo dentro de un marco de realismo mágico que, aunque imagino que resonará más o menos según la edad y las experiencias veraniegas, creo que activará una parte del cerebro reptiliano en muchas, muchas personas. Como es evidente, no quiero entrar en detalles sobre el juego porque yo me metí a ciegas y vi al diablo. Y creo que puede ser una experiencia muy guay para cualquiera.

As a queer person living in a non queer accepting christian family, this game hits too close home. Even after almost 10 years of its release, the themes are still as relevant as ever, which is honestly sad.
