There's merit in the worst of it.
i damn near lost my mind doing the mazes. Why would you tie the dialogue, you know, where you're telling the story. to specific moves? You destroy the rhythm of precision. Because it's not about step by step it's about solving the problem and if you can see the timing, the level is a river to sweep through, not puddle stomp.
The solve was of course to have the ability to see past dialogue. Not grant infinite lives because if you happened to miss a key point, you're still left to piece it together. Which was fine enough for a story like this. Sweet, cute, but simple and predictable. BUT IT'S ABOUT THE PRINCIPLE NOT HOW WELL IT WAS EXECUTED.
That aside, the concepts for the maze were very solid. If you want hard, they aren't but they are thoughtful aside from the dialogue ♥♥♥♥ up. I also could be talking out of my ass right now because I immediately stopped playing the standard mode at the first sign of said dialogue ♥♥♥♥ up. XD Also you can beat it in an hour. The 2 hours total is card mining. Honestly, I am gonna give this game a thumb's up because it's better than just scrolling on your phone, which I have done for an hour, or 2. Or 10. DON'T JUDGE ME. :p

I actually thought the puzzles weren't too bad. Can't say I was the biggest fan of the visual novel aspects, but i don't regret playing it.
Bon jeu pas prise de tête avec une bonne ambiance. Petite histoire et musique sympa. Le doublage est vraiment excelent et rajoute beaucoup de vie aux personnages. (qui sont des IA)
Point faible les niveaux un peu court?
A short game with basic but decent voiceover for the AI. Of course, there's no voice over for the protagonist and I am not complaining either. You can probably sense the story from the get-go, so don't expect any surprises if you're a veteran player.
Ideally, I'd recommend this game for kids as it's safe (in all ways). The gameplay is smooth and there's a challenge mode as well. An added time limit would have been a nice touch.

Pretty good game. I enjoyed the story, characters, art, and the game play.
I am 32 years old.
My ex-wife and I have a daughter together, and we adopted our son together. Both are now 4 years old.
When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.
Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.
With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.
After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.
Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.
Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.
Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

Unhack is a gem of a game that combines Visual Novel and Puzzle genres. Visual Novel obviously refers to how the story is presented. As per the game being a Puzzle – it’s about getting from point A to point B in less or more challenging situations.
You get to play the game as Unhacker and the goal of your hacking mission is to stop the 5K Worm. The whole story is really interesting. It is a Visual Novel, but falls into Kinetic category (doesn’t have any choices). However that isn’t really much of an issue. In the Puzzle part aside from getting from Start to Finish you also have to for example avoid lasers that can immediately cease you from existence.
The characters you meet on your path are super cute and have personalities you can typically run into in Anime/Manga. And you definitely form a bond with them during your journey. Nice addition is definitely the fact that they are voiced.
Overall Unhack is a game I recommend checking out. I had a lot of fun playing it, seeing the interactions between characters and dealing with the puzzle parts.

A fun little puzzle-type game with an interesting story. I love the character designs, the music and the voice acting.
Could have done with a bit more polish, though. I pressed the Return key during the end credits, and the music just stopped playing. Also, aside from the ASWD and f keys, the controls aren't really explained. I only discovered by accident that you can press Return to proceed with the story. Would have been nice to have a key to go back in the story. If there was, I never discovered it. Also, it's not clear which chapters you've completed and which you haven't, which makes it difficult to know where you left off if you don't complete this in one session.
Despite some of these shortcomings, I did enjoy this game.

Somehow, even though along the way I found soo many reasons NOT to like this game, like:

no achievements, no points store (or bugged / view on community market)
the few settings there are do not carry over between sessions
Incompatible with steam overlay + no screenshots (unless you manually add compatibility -> see Guides)
False promise of Weedy showing using The Mod
story ok but not very realistic (bogus hacking / programming) or deep
gameplay not very challenging or enticing
DLC also too short and easy
However, I guess the cons didn't convince me, even though in quantity and quality they seem to outweigh the

And yes, would have loved to see that famed costume mod in action
(I think it would have made for a good DLC idea), puny perverted human me.
Now, on to Unhack 2, which I hear is supposed to be even better.
I'm certainly excited in anticipation.
Where - what? I was promised a pervy costume mod. Where's my pervy costume mod! What? Rather be caught dead than in it! I feel ripped off!

I have a special appreciation for visual novels that are interwoven with gameplay. This one certainly doesn't disappoint in that category!
The mini-game style gameplay requires you to find the right timing. It's not overly difficult, I played on Hard (three lives) for all of the missions without issue. Each level builds upon the previous ones and has a new mechanic added keeping it fresh.
However what I found a bit inconventient was how the story gets auto-played by passing certain level points which leads to two outcomes. Either you naturally breeze through like I initially did and have to back up the dialogue at the end to read it or you have to periodically stop to read each piece of dialogue as it comes up. It's not that big a problem and I have no idea how to solve this for an ideal flow, though I believe I should at least mention it.
Nevertheless the story is quite nice and did get me a little emotional over the AI characters at the end.
Due to how short it is it doesn't go very deep into the subject matter present and isn't particularly complex, but in combination with the gameplay, the nice visuals and great sound design it is a good, simple game for an evening.
To sum it up, each piece comes together to make a quite good game I recommend.

A fairly short title combining action puzzles with visual novel sections. Is the idea of virus chasing enticing enough?
As an 'unhacking' specialist you are tasked with worm elimination. The task boils down to simple navigation of simple maze -like stages in order to exterminate computer worms or to reach certain places. There are ten stages within the main game and three extra in the DLC. You can select any stage from the start. Also, there are three levels of difficulty but even the hardest one doesn't pose any serious challenge. As for the story, while all stages contain some chatting sections, most talking occurs between levels. It is a fairly short and straightforward sci-fi story with mostly predictable events. There is only one ending so one playthrough is enough to see everything. Due to its length, characters are underdeveloped and some parts remain unanswered but it still is decent enough to enjoy. For the price asked, and when compared to similar titles at this price point, it is good enough to fill a few hours of your day.
The main theme here is sci-fi, or virtual space to be more specific, and it is more than clear. Stages look like electronic circuits and cold colours emphasise this style. Everything feels a bit sterile and somewhat empty, budget-like. Characters done in anime style also reflect the low budget as it's at best average. Still, overall design and visual quality is acceptable.
Electronic music is one of the strongest points of this game. I really enjoyed some tracks and the free soundtrack DLC is a cool bonus. There is also some voice acting which is unusual for such a cheap title, however, it is pretty bland. Character voices do not convey emotions well and sound pretty monotone. Not terrible but unnecessary feature.
No bugs encountered.
To summarise, a short action puzzle/visual novel with average anime art and decent soundtrack. If you enjoy the listed genres you might find it enjoyable but it is still a budget title so low expectations are almost a must: 5.1/10

Небольшая кинетическая визуалка с вставками в виде мини-игры. Сложность влияет лишь на количество жизней в мини-игре - на минимальной сложности жизни бесконечны, впрочем никакого штрафа за провал на более высоких сложностях нет, так что имеет смысл ставить хотя бы нормальную, чтобы был хоть какой-то интерес. Что касается самой визуалки, я бы и сказал, что она о взломе и искусственном интеллекте, но это лишь сеттинг. На деле визуалка про человечность (по крайней мере я так думаю). С моей точки зрения, вещи подобные unhack 1-2 и cursed sight периодически стоит читать, чтобы оставаться человеком. Игра достаточно короткая, впрочем и цена невелика. Рекомендую.
TLDR: A cute short puzzle game with some VN-style sequences featuring well-voiced attractive anime girls/women. Good for playing through to the end in one sitting (which can easily be done in under 2 hours if playing on easiest difficulty).
[b]-Monetization-[/b]
The artbook and soundtrack (OST) are both available as DLC while there's an extra 3-episode prequel DLC (Unhack Destruction) also available that details some events prior to the events of this game. I'd love for the prequel DLC to be included with the base game now considering how much time has passed since release (over 8+ years as of this review). The game is short enough (under 2 hours) on the easiest difficulty to be easily completed in under the 2 hour mark and refunded, so the extra DLC being included would go a long way towards retaining players IMHO.
The Artbook and Soundtrack/OST DLC is nice but absolutely not essential. I do wish the Artbook contained some more artwork, especially concept art, sketches, or other similar material. It feels very bare-bones for what it is at a meager 15 pages with stuff that is already in the game (and about 2 screenshots from an earlier demo build of the game).
[b]-Technical-[/b]
The game does not save settings between sessions, but the only settings available were for volume and turning 'emoticons' on or off. I'm presuming this refers to the text-based emoticons typed by your protagonist, but why someone would want to disable them I have no idea. No other options are available for resolution, windowed/fullscreen or other options. The game launches and stays exclusively in 'borderless fullscreen'. There is no save/load system so if you want to return you must manually keep track of where you are in the story. I've detailed this further in the 'Story' section.
The full paid game has trading cards but no Steam achievements.
[b]-Story-[/b]
The highlight of this has to be the storyline. The demo offers an amazing 'cliffhanger' ending where the full version lets you play through the entire story. Without spoiling the storyline, there are events that can be somewhat predictable and it feels like a typical 'anime' story.
The storyline has nothing to do with any actual technical stuff in our world as 'unhacking' alone is a silly concept. Worms and viruses are portrayed as various enemy objects to bypass/overcome in various ways. A few minor gaming-related allusions are made. The protagonist is portrayed as a 'pervert' who constantly sexually-harasses the female AI that he works with and this is played for laughs [spoiler](these kinds of jokes have aged very poorly, but humor should be evaluated based on context and considering none of the AI have a physical body then I personally don't see the issue)[/spoiler].
It is a typical arc of suspicion, conflict, and resolution. There are several such arcs placed throughout the story but each 'episode' flows into the next one. One downside is that the player is never told what episode they are on, so episode selection becomes a guessing-game if you aren't manually keeping track of things. There's generally a full-screen artwork image shown with a 'next' button before loading the next episode and this can be used to keep track manually.
One of the single biggest issues with the story clashing against gameplay is that 'story activation' markers within the puzzles are often placed in such a way as to prevent hearing the fully-voiced dialogue during the process of avoiding obstacles. This jarring story pacing/flow during puzzle sequences is a detriment rather than an asset.
[b]-Audiovisual-[/b]
For visuals, the clean and simple artwork does a great job of conveying the themes of the story. Character artwork in particular is a fantastic highlight. Backgrounds are simple and get the job done.
For audio, the music is primarily ambient techno/electronica style befitting the game's atmosphere. While lacking in clear chord progression outside of the main title theme, it makes up for it with wonderful and appropriate music to match the mood of the story at that point in time. This is especially notable during heartfelt and sad moments. Wonderful work all around, though only grab the Soundtrack DLC if you want to support the creator a bit more or obtain it as part of a bundle deal.
[b]-Difficulty-[/b]
There are 3 different difficulty settings. The easiest difficulty is called 'Normal' with Infinite Lives/Attempts as well as reduced/slower/easier obstacles. After that there is 'Hard' difficulty with 3 Lives/Attempts and more challenging obstacles. The hardest difficulty is 'Insane' and towards the end of the game (around episode 8 out of 10) it becomes very tricky if not downright 'brutal' to complete a stage fully on this difficulty. There are no achievements or other benefits towards playing on harder difficulties which is a shame as it inhibits the desire to replay the game at a later time.
[b]-Overall-[/b]
I would recommend only getting this game in a bundle deal on sale. It is a great game but the questionable humor/jokes on certain aspects as well as a lack of Steam achievements means this cannot compete with other similar visual novel games at a similar price point at normal price. Fortunately, nearly all of my complaints have been remedied (and then some) in the sequel to this game known as [url=https://store.steampowered.com/app/444170/Unhack_2/]Unhack 2[/url].
Pra ser bem claro eu nunca gostei de Visual Novels, não sei como obtive esse jogo, mas resolve tentar jogar ele pelo tempo que aguentei ( na verdade o jogo não têm nem 2 horas de gameplay). Esse jogo me decepcionou de duas formas, a VN na verdade é uma personagem chata falando a cada 2 segundos, que se o jogador não cuidar, acaba pulando as falas e perdendo a história do jogo (que já não é boa), fora isso a segunda decepção é o puzzle que supostamente é pra ser o diferencia do jogo, na realidade você só precisa avançar entre as "casas" clicando ou usando wasd, quando o jogo apresenta algum obstaculo você só precisa esperar o caminho abrir e avançar, totalmente tedioso.
Resumindo, história ruim e mal apresentada, gameplay chato, não vejo razão alguma pra alguém querer jogar.

To be clear I never liked Visual Novels, I don't know how I got this game, but I try to play it for as long as I could (actually the game doesn't even have 2 hours of gameplay). This game disappointed me in two ways, VN is actually a boring character talking every 2 seconds, if the player doesn't take care, he ends up skipping lines and losing the game's story (which is no good anyway), other than that the second disappointment is the puzzle that is supposed to be different part from this game, in reality you only need to advance between the "houses" by clicking or using wasd, when the game presents an obstacle you just have to wait for the path to open and advance, totally tedious.
In short, bad and poorly presented story, boring gameplay, I don't see any reason anyone would want to play.

Great game! I've played through all difficulties and loved the challenge and the story. I highly recommend this game for someone that likes a casual game with great narration and awesome voice acting. Music is also fantastic to the point where I've uploaded to my phone for listening on the go.

Le plus intéressant dans ce jeu, ce n'est pas la partie visual novel à proprement parler (qui est sympa mais très courte), ni la partie puzzle game (qui est cool aussi mais pas révolutionnaire), mais plutôt le mélange des deux : le visual novel y gagne beaucoup grâce au mini-jeu qui rend le concept original, et le mini-jeu aurait pu n'être qu'une variante d'un jeu mobile lambda s'il n'avait pas été illustré par une histoire qui se déroule au fur et à mesure de notre progression, ce qui rend l'expérience nettement plus plaisante.
Par contre j'aurais bien aimé que les épisodes non encore joués soient grisés dans le menu ou quelque chose comme ça, ça aurait permis de savoir où on en est si on ne veut pas forcément tous les faire d'une traite.
Au final, bien que très court (2h maxi), j'ai trouvé ce petit jeu plutôt sympa, surtout pour son concept original, et l'histoire est amusante aussi.

Anime style game where the story is told as you play in real time. You hack the system by navigating your way through the system, dodging worms and other nasty stuff as you make your way to destroy the virus at the end of the level. Not your average visual novel game but still great fun non the less.

The idea of playing a visual novel that transitions into a puzzle game while still being a visual novel is novel in and of itself, even still in 2021. Story's a little thin and the art is a little rough (Unhack 2 looks great though!) but this unique and relatively short (less than 50 minutes on Normal) game is a treat.

Unhack is an interesting title that manages to be different & has a lot of heart, despite the length & pacing. Would I go out & recommend Unhack specifically? Not necessarily, but it's a unique experience made by a small team that I enjoyed.
It's a short visual novel with a soundtrack, fully-voiced lines (minus the protagonist), & contains 10 chapters/levels that feature platformer-based gameplay - as the visual novel is still going on. I've played very few visual novels that feature any real gameplay aspect to them - for that alone, this title is worth trying out. As for the game itself, it's not really my cup of tea - it manages to be both easy & difficult, plus difficulty is only based lives (from a couple to an infinite amount). I wouldn't say it's very exciting, but for what it is, it was interesting to be maneuvering around obstacles as the characters talked. Unfortunately, some spaces trigger the next line of dialogue, which made for some awkward backtracking & retracking because the character didn't finish speaking or I couldn't read that fast, but I needed to move because a trap was closing in on me. Overall though, the game bit of Unhack was welcome & kept it interesting as Unhack toggled between game & visual novel.
The visuals & presentation of Unhack are also interesting & what initially caught my interest. The cyber-aesthetics are appealing & fitting. The cast is fully-voiced & fun to listen to (minus some weird enunciation & sound quality here & there). The soundtrack complements the story & setting (though not as uptempo or energetic as I'd like - think a quieter Human After All a la Daft Punk). It was also nice to see the characters' mannerisms & limited actions, especially when the [spoiler]characters & their outfits mix together, after they start merging with each other[/spoiler]. The CGs at the end of each chapter were also something I enjoyed.
The story, arguably the biggest part of this project, is a mixed bag. It seems like it could be a fascinating enough universe - but all it goes into is light details & a rapid plot. Terms & events aren't particularly explained, so the audience is left to wonder about most of it. The characters are distinct & some show "development," but it's more of steps on an outline, rather than actual growth & background. It's a shame, as it has the makings of a good story - & I WANT to like it, but we're really left with half of a story at best - more likely a third of one, however. There's light background, "flashbacks," & a do-or-die type ultimatum at the climax, but the pacing means that they're within a few minutes of each other. I wasn't particularly rushing my playthrough, but I finished the game in under 2 hours. I really wish there was more here - it feels more like an intro or a demo.
I'm happy with the purchase, & like I opened, this wouldn't be my first recommendation, but I still found it well-worth my time. I'd definitely spend more time on the title if there was more content. I've got high hopes for Unhack 2.

Трудно описать что происходит... Но достаточно посмотреть трейлер и все станет понятно. Игра проходится за 2 часа. Ачивок нет. Сложность нормальная. Интересно до самого конца и когда уже наскучивает - мы уже убиваем последнего босса. Не ахти какая игра, но уж точно не плохая.

UnHack est un petit mélange de puzzle game et de Visual Novel assez court mais plutôt agréable à jouer, qui commence simple pour tirer sur une histoire plus touchante... avec des IA?
C'est un peu dommage que les illustrations inter-niveaux soient aussi médiocres, pour le coup, et que la bande-son soit composée de boucles assez courtes la plupart du temps, car les persos ont du charme et certains morceaux sont très agréables.
Un bon "petit" jeu comme Invert Mouse sait en faire, je conseille. Certes peut-être pas au prix fort vu sa très faible urée de vie, mais à essayer quand même à l'occasion.

사이버네틱 + 퍼즐 + 애니메이션 캐릭터 조합이 도저히 이해가진 않습니다만 게임 자체는 그럭저럭 할만한 수준입니다.
퍼즐 요소보다는 오히려 컨트롤 요소가 더 강조된 느낌이 강합니다. 하지만 둘다 어려운 수준은 아니고 다 쉬운 수준입니다.
한글화가 안되어있지만 게임을 진행하는데는 전혀 상관이 없습니다.
이렇게 눈깔 큰 캐릭터를 좋아하시는 분들이 있을지는 모르겠지만 그런대로 수요가 있는 것 같네요.
플탐은 1~2시간이면 끝나고 정 할거없다 하시는분들은 한번 해보시는것도 나쁘지 않습니다.

This is a fun little game. Kind of short, but fun.

There's a little awkwardness in the sprites, but they're okay. The rest of the game visuals are better, and that's usually what you're focusing on anyway.
[b]Voice Acting[/b]:
The voices are a bit awkward. There are awkward pauses, and sometimes their tone seems a little strange for what they're saying. It's definitely not the strong suit of this game.
[b]Characters[/b]:
I'd have liked to have more time with the characters, as the game seemed to move a little fast. The characters had different personalities, but kind of started to feel the same after a while.
[b]Story[/b]:
The story's okay. It didn't really wow me in any way, but I started to feel bad at the end, so it gets some points there.
[b]Comedy[/b]:
There was a lot of comedy in this game, and it was clearly (at least to me it was) inspired by what you find in anime. They voice acting added to some, and took away from others. If you enjoy this kind of humor, it's going to be really funny, but I personally wasn't drawn to it.
[b]Gameplay[/b]:
The gameplay's simplistic, but I think that's a good thing. It plays in a way that's simple to get the hang of, but it still manages to provide a challenge later in the game.
[b]Music[/b]:
I think the music is the best part of the game. It acts as a decent background drone that matches the overall tone of the game. I think the only possible improvement that could be made is better transitions. The music seems to suddenly shift, and it's kind of off putting.
[b]Conclusion[/b]:
It's not great, but it's fun. The DLC adds a short backstory, that helps you understand A2 a little more, but I think is too short to have much of an emotional impact, though the same can be said for the main game as well. Can't see myself playing it more, but I'm glad I played it the one time.

While this game is rough, it holds a lot of potential. I think i'ts one of the most inovative Visual Novels I've ever seen. I played it a long time ago and felt like coming back and as I am now writing this piece, I think it deserves some attention.
As I said, it is not a smooth ride, the "hacking" mechanic is also used to advance text, which means that more action-y players won't feel as bored as if just reading a story, they can actually watch it unfold and that depends on their reaction and planning. The puzzles aren't very complex, and you can always go with difficulty settings that give you three lives or none at all, nothing will impact the story, its just a way you can challenge yourself a little.
And speaking of the story, I believe it is fairly nice. Nothing too write home about, but very touching and dramatic, with a few twists here and there. Despite the fact that there is little to no introduction, As long as you read the sinopsis on the store page, you will be fine.
Another high point is a respectable work with sound design and voice acting too. On the visual style, while the mugshots are cute, the gameplay design is very minimalistic, but it tells you just enough that you need to know. The only major bad part I can think of is the way the game is programmed, not allowing you to change resolution nor take screenshots. There are ways to circumvent this though, though that work should be a point. Also, for a visual novel, the lack of a gallery really hurts it, and it has rather impressive art between episodes.
Unhack is probably one of the first games I've seen from this creator, and I've played a couple more. I will say again that it is a rough start but a very well crafted one. It shows great promise and despite its shortcomings I still have to praise it for what it does. Can't wait to see what its sequel will bring.

The Unhack was within my view for a pretty long time, and I knew that it could only be described as a very simple and short doujin game from a small team based on Fuwanovel forums. I got this game from a Mini InvertMouse bundle on Fanatical and since then waited for a chance to play it. Well, the chance is here, and this is... exacty what I expected.
This is a short (1.5 hours for both the main game and DLC together on Normal difficulty) mix between a sort of kinetic visual novel and a rhythm maze game. If you remember The World's Hardest Game on Flash from 00s, where you must go through a labyrinth, while avoiding moving enemies, then this is it, only much, much more simple - here you have a number of stopping points and you must jump between them in time. It actually becomes tricky in the second part of the game, especially if you choose the Hard difficulty with only three lives (there is also Insane with instant death), but if you are well versed in this type of games, then it should be a child's play for you. I'm not that good with rhythm games, well, to be frank, my sense of rhythm is pretty much horrible (and still I managed to BEAT that Hardest Game mentioned above, it took me 6 or 7 hours, but I still did it), so I was satisfied with Normal difficulty without death.
The content is what you can expect from a doujin game like this. You are someone like a security engineer in cyberspace, and you have an AI, Weedy as you partner. You work for a cybersecurity organisation and there is a conspiracy you got yourself engaged in. I can't say that this type of plot isn't clichéd no matter how you look at it (even all of the twists are pretty much predictable). But even with this plot this game has its own charm. The characters are cute and not exactly cardboard pieces, the art isn't top notch, but actually nice, the overall design is pretty much Flash-like, but not unpleasant. In the end, it got me hooked, that's why I'll repeat this once more - ...wow.
It will certainly look overpriced for many people, but with me getting it in a cheap bundle along with two other InvertMouse novels - this definitely wasn't a bad purchase.

Unhack is a simple action/puzzle game with a Japanese visual novel "story" tacked on the front of it. Move your pointer through the maze, across every flag, to the exit, to "clear" each level.
The puzzle gameplay is Flash/Browser tier, very low quality/minimalist art style. Combine this with no working widescreen support (pillarboxed 4:3), and a $5 price tag for a flash game with some anime girls slapped on the front, and I couldn't recommend this to anyone.
It's an average and short game. You should buy it at discount price.

This was so far from what I expected that I had to mute the entire thing to even be able to continue on. The narration and sexual innuendo was incredibly juvenile and that's all there really was to the story, the puzzles weren't difficult or engaging enough to make me want to keep playing to the end.
If you are into hentai then I am sure this will be right up your alley, I am not a teenage boy and therefore it wasn't, the end.
Adding a sexual content tag, so that others are not mislead like I was, into thinking this was merely a puzzle game with some storytelling from an AI NPC.

小游戏，如果是慈善包或者打折到3元以下可以考虑买。故事背景是网络数据世界，玩家要控制weedy和debug去消灭名为A^2的病毒，到后面发现weedy才是大boss，一顿回忆杀之后debug升级为debug^2打败了weedy的boss形态——母虫病毒，唤回了weedy。
玩法就是走迷宫，有点像吃豆人，躲避各种陷阱的同时，收集钥匙，踩机关消灭敌人。注意：打boss的时候一次只能打一滴血，要回到boss关的起点，才能继续进行攻击，推荐直接打一滴死一次，能直接复活在起点，不需要再往回跑一趟。
一小时通关，只可惜没有成就，但能挂卡，还算不错。
Я не многое могу сказать об этой игре, так как с английским у меня плохо. Однако то, что я понять смог, вывело игру для меня в список маленьких, но очень хороших игр. Это интересная игра-головоломка, где по ходу игры вы раскрываете сюжет, в котором, я не разобрался от слова вообще :D
Unhack is in its core a pretty good Puzzle Game with 10 "Maps". The entire game took me pretty much exactly an hour to complete, however I also did it on the easiest mode, where you can as many times as you want. Normally I am not really a Puzzle Game kind of Guy, but I honestly enjoyed it here. The Mixture between the Puzzle and the Visual Novel Aspect really fit and although the Story isnt anyhting super exciting, I found it to be pretty cute and likeable. What I also liked was the English Voice Acting and the Art. If the Pictures on the Storepage here catch your interest then I am also pretty sure that you will like the Game. If you buy this in a Sale it will also be really cheap so why not just give it a try yourself.

故事中主角是一名「unhacker」，而裡面三位角色都是 AI ，藉由遇到不同的 AI 去挖掘主角在這間資安公司中所進行的任務背後所隱藏的背景。
劇情很短，內容不會太複雜，單純只是「一個事件」這樣的長度與內容。

I'm unsure where I purchased this game. I think it might have came in a bundle. It's a cute short game. Shorter for me because I went click happy through the visual novel part. The puzzles were fun and easy to figure out. I look forward to the 2nd Unhack game.

A VN style story with some puzzle aspects in it. This was a fun little game, good for an hour or two of play time and some cute anime girls to go along with it.
An instatnat classic, Makes me think of Megaman NT warrior, with a touch of Vocaloid. It knows what it is and who it caters to; A light novel puzzel game that doesn't take it's self too seriously as it appeals to computer science Otaku with a thing for AI Waifus.
To explain why I love this game, I think can be best summed up as; 'It's a case study in minimalism- how to do it well without sacrificeing depth.'
The puzzle elements are easy to grasp yet the nuance of skil isn't lost, The story and caracters are simple yet endearing, Overall It's a short and memerable experiance one can complete in a little over an hour- just long enough to carry it's self gracefully and end before it runs out of steam.
Minimalism asside, Everything else is great! Art is easy on the eyes, great voice acting preformances, story feels predictable yet still somehow manages to suprise. These production values are well worth your $4.
9/10 - Only complaint is theirs no payoff with the 'Costume mod' running gag.

思った以上に良かった。主人公以外のキャラクターは女の子ばかり。一見日本人受けしにくい塗りの絵だが、表情差分が豊富にあり、何より英語だがフルボイス！そのため、きちんとキャラクターに愛着が湧く。前半は軽妙な掛け合いにニヤニヤしてしまったし、後半のサプライズのあるストーリーも良い。
ゲーム部分は難易度がNORMAL、HARD、INSANEから選べるが、NORMALは何と体力無限。実績も無く、NORMALでプレイすれば十分なため、完全にストーリーのスパイスのようなものでしかない。プレイヤーが特定のマスに進行するごとに会話が進むというシステムで、自分の行動がストーリーとシンクロしている感じが面白かった。
惜しむらくは全10話で1時間にも満たないことだが、密度が濃くて楽しめた。定期的に半額以下になるセールをやっているようなので、是非プレイしてみてほしい。女の子達が可愛いし、きっと心に残るはず。
余談として、どうやら続編ではボイスが無くなってしまったらしい。今作ではボイスが大きな比重を占めているので、その点は非常に残念。

Right off the bat, the game comes across as rather lackluster. Characters are expressive and the art style is consistent, maintaining the mood throughout, but backgrounds are exceedingly basic, while CGs are few, rather poor compared to the regular graphics, and only thinly connected to the plot.
[b]Sound: 5/10[/b]
Unlike most indie VNs nowadays, this one is fully voice acted, and pretty well to boot. Sadly, it's matched by a fairly forgettable OST; it's... there, it just doesn't do much of anything.
[b]Story: 6/10[/b]
The core of a good VN is its story, and here is where Unlink is at its weirdest: on one hand, the plot has lots of twists throughout its meager length, unusual enough to be surprising but not so much as to strain credibility, which keeps things interesting. But on the other, it [i]is[/i] rather short, which means there's next to no world building and very little development for any of its characters.
[b]Longevity: 0/10[/b]
A bit over an hour for both the main game and its DLC, with no branching whatsoever outside the failure screen for dying at the minigame that forms the core of its gameplay; which, while fun enough, offers no reason to replay once solved.

So, nothing really stands out besides the voice acting, and even that is mostly by the standards of indie VNs. But even so, I enjoyed it; perhaps it's the uniqueness of its premise, or simply the fact that nothing in it manages to overstay its welcome. It feels like a really focused labor of love from start to finish, if that makes sense.
Still, even at its regular low price I'd have trouble recommending it; the value is just not there. But on sale, or thought of as a small donation to an indie dev, I do believe it's worth a buy: in spite of its flaws its got plenty of charm and, as the saying goes, I could think of worse ways to spend a lazy afternoon. Or maybe just a quiet moment during one.

Play as a seemingly normal person on his journey to become the legendary hackaiyan, have powerups that would even make krillin viable.
Pretty fun game, I thought it was pretty charming and the puzzle elements and the story dialogue was good.

- Funny and endearing dialogue
- Puzzles mechanics are easy to understand but get stuff added to make them always interesting.
- Music is great
- Short, makes it for a nice single session.
- Nice aesthetic and theme.

- Short is a double edge'd sword, but there is more games!

Simple fun puzzles with funny and endearing dialogue while you do them. Krillin is now viable due to the power boost he received. Not Yamcha though. Fk Yamcha.

Ah dem squicky-high-picky voices... thats how I like my anime. Until my ears bleed to death. Nah, it wasn't that bad ofcourse. The game was worth that hour of my time. Everything about it screams budget its not boring though, an okay game among these almost free. Even if you consider 4 years passed by. Dialogoues shouldnt trigger during moving, otherwise it is annoying and usually forces you to look into back log for them.

6/10 recommended I think. This is ... interesting. The story is super short, but the plot is unexpectedly well written and with engaging pacing. There's even some twists in such a short story! I bought all games in the series for some easy achievements and some generic light novel action with fanservice..... aka, i didn't expect much from the the games or their DLCs....

This game had a good story and was a lot of fun to play
I was bored tonight and decided to play one of my backlog games and I picked Unhack. It's a visual novel with light game elements. The story wasnt bad, it was a little corny and predictable though. All and all, enjoyable. I beat the game in 69 minutes.
Steam Trading Cards: More than likely you will beat the game with a few cards left to unlock and be forced to idle the game for a bit.
Think of this game less of a VN and more of a quick puzzle game with some VN elements and excellent voice acting. The story, while short, did pique my interest long enough for me to clear the whole game (which takes around an hour or less). It also provides some decent backstory for its sequel, Unhack 2. It's nothing deep, however.
Gameplay is basically sliding block puzzles. You move across a maze of sorts with WASD and try to get the other side, sometimes while avoiding lasers and killing enemies through use of timed shots. The game isn't hard at all, and Easy mode even gives you infinite lives. It does get a little stale though, and I would've liked to see more intricate hazards.
There's no saving feature. That said, you're allowed to choose which "episode" you want to play at the title screen, so the saving isn't really needed (each episode lasts around 5-10 minutes depending on how fast you clear). I would've liked an indicator of what episode I was currently playing, but it's not that hard to quit and choose a different one if you select wrong.
The voice acting is superb. Probably the biggest name here is Xanthe Huynh of K-On, SAO, Persona 5 fame. That's not to say that the other actresses didn't do good jobs. Aimee Smith, Skylar Davenport, Rachael Messer, and Xanthe all performed wonderfully at bringing the characters to life, despite how short the game is.
I really do recommend Unhack. Maybe not at the 3.99 price point for something this short and a bit rough around the edges, but at a lower price I do suggest buying this game.

Unhack è una visual novel/puzzle game stupenda! Il doppiaggio è di ottimo livello, perfetto per ogni personaggio, ognuno dei quali è caratterizzato alla perfezione. La grafica è semplice, ma d'effetto. Viene fatto un sapiente uso dei colori, facendoci capire sempre come ci dobbiamo muovere. E le musiche... mamma mia, le musiche! Assolutamente stupende! Soprattutto, secondo me, quella del livello 4 (chiamata "High Stakes"). Il compositore è stato veramente bravo a comporre ogni singolo brano, ognuno dei quali è assolutamente perfetto per il momento in cui viene utilizzato. Così come i suoni. Il character design dei personaggi è realizzato davvero bene. E poi... la storia. Mamma mia, la storia! Si evolve in modo perfetto, partendo come una cosa semplice ed evolvendo in qualcosa di assurdo! Scritta davvero bene! L'unica piccola pecca è il fatto che vi siano, purtroppo, solo 10 livelli. Però la rigiocabilità è data dalla possibilità di scegliere fra 3 livelli di difficoltà: Normale, Difficile, e la Folle. Quest'ultima in particolare trovo sia l'essenza vera e propria del gioco. Perché a questa difficoltà vi assicuro che non sarà difficile incorrere nel Game Over. Inoltre, il DLC "Unhack: Destruction" aggiunge 3 livelli extra, basati su un altro personaggio, approfondendo la sua storia. E trovo che sia davvero un buon DLC! In pratica, fra gioco principale e DLC spendereste 5 euro. Quasi nulla, insomma, dato che li vale tranquillamente tutti! Sono inoltre scaricabili (tutto da Steam, dato che non l'ho detto) le Soundtrack gratuitamente, ed anche l'Artbook Digitale a 2 euro, se vi interessa (a me sì). Quindi, che aspettate?? Compratelo! Ora!!
对于四块钱买到的小品级作品来说，确实还行。
画风不是特别的好，但至少还算是挺萌的，人设也就是OK，配音倒是挺好，看来作者人缘不错。
剧情没那么复杂，背景一交代基本就猜到怎么回事了，但也算是self-explanatory。
啧啧，觉得我要做游戏的话大概第一部能做成这样子就很满足了。

This was a very fun Visual Novel with an integrated puzzle mechanic. It was a very fun game, and I found it well worth playing. The story was good, the game was good, the art was good, and the music was good. I also played the DLC which gave a surprising little back story. I would consider the DLC a must as it explains parts of the story that would otherwise be missed.
Short but entertaining.
It makes me curious about the improvements made in Unhack2.
Intro: When I joined Steam in 2012, my first attempt at VNs (visual novels) and A.I. storylines was Analogue- A Hate Story and Hate Plus. I discovered Unhack shortly thereafter and I can say with certainty that InvertMouse's series is the more accessible of the two. Both make my recommendation list for VNs that I would recommend to newcomers, but if they approach this after being introduced to anime or manga, Unhack is better.

[*] The narrative (while simple) is the foundation for the sequel which genuinely surprised me in the direction it went. Despite that it still respects the story of this original and provides time to feel closure and emotional punch to the story from the first. (And on a narrative note, there is prequel DLC which has a separate review from me. Highly recommended and referenced [spoiler] as a location and art gallery in the sequel. It also makes one particular moment that much sadder and emotional when compared to another reunion in Unhack 2.[/spoiler]
[*] The art, while simple still impresses during the wallpaper sections and makes narrative sense when you consider A.I. have multiple generations. This improves the effect in the sequel, which has even better wallpapers and a new artist mimic and contrast the old style using pixels, low-res vs. high-res images, and some impressive color work.
[*] Short length so it won't take too many hours out of your life (Unlike some MUCH longer VNs. Looking at you Sunrider).
[*] Gameplay is simple but requires some skill closer to the end. More interactive than the usual VN, which I appreciate. Plus it provides story during gameplay which is something that dual-genre VNs don't often have (looking at you Sunrider).
[*] Has optional voice acting with actresses who have been in several anime dubs post 2010 till now (Xanthe Huynh especially for voicing Menma in Anohana and Haru in Persona 5). And if you don't like voice work in your VNs check the options.

[*] Unhack 2- Already mentioned this several times in my review, but the sequel does improve every bit of this original. In the worst case, you can just jump into the sequel, read the first game's recap, and understand the lack of voice acting. HOWEVER, there are some bits narrated by the original cast in the soundtrack for Unhack 2. Have a look if you're interested.
[*] Analogue- A Hate Story and Hate Plus- Two other great introduction VNs. Analogue has a bit of code typing required, Hate Plus does not, but both rely on A.I. or computed-recorded Human memories to tell their story. A lot of text and a lot of diary entries to read, but it makes the emotional punch when it has to. Plus you get commentary during the game like Unhack, so good job for that. Plus they have multiple ending including an optional harem ending, which most VNs refuse to do. [spoiler](requires remembering the code to a particular diary entry)[/spoiler] All in all, worth looking into and Christine Love's earlier work.
[*] Portal, Portal 2, or System Shock 2- Other A.I. stories. Just scary, funny, and all over the place. Won't forget these ones easily.
[*] System Shock remake- Releasing in 2018- Hopefully it lives up to the legacy of the 2nd game.
[*] Ghost in the Shell (&Stand Alone Complex )The big franchise which tackles something similar to Unhack and Unhack 2. Lot of anime films, TV series, Live-action movie, or a free-to-play game to work with. Not a series I particularly enjoy, but I've only seen bits and pieces. Worth having a look since it's all on Steam now.

Alright Unhack, we need to talk. I like puzzle games. I like visual novels too. I think we both like both of these things. So why on earth did you take the most boring tropish components of each and mashed them together? No, no, I don't hate you. You're a good kid and I know you mean well (your art is nice for what it is), but it felt like you made this game with cruise control turned on. Now I know you have a lot of dlc and a sequel, but I have never played an easier puzzler, nor gagged harder at the forced harem and the general tsudere/mary sue dynamic pressed upon the story. A forced harem, mind you, with literal digital girls who are programs who somehow can go super saiyan but are also programs but can also feel love.
I'm not faulting you for any of this. It's the easiest story to write, the easiest game to conceptualize and execute on. Even then, I think there's potential. Maybe the sequel makes better use of the genuinely charming idea that's presented here, or the dlc. All I know is that I rolled my eyes far too hard far too often playing this, and I'm not want to play it again. I do think there's a winning formula hiding somewhere in Unhack, however. Somewhere in it's DNA.
I speak condescendingly because the game itself felt like a condesension; when I hear puzzles, I hope for challenge, and when I hear Visual Novel, I cross my fingers for an engaging narrative. Neither were achieved here, instead giving us the barest minimum to achieve mediocrity. Unhack is not a bad game, nor is it a good game; it simply made me feeling nothing except a distant pang for a missed opportunity. A guilty pleasure at best for me, if that. (I love your other stuff Invert, this one just didn't click.) Pass.

It's not bad, just short but given the price it's ok.
Interesująca visual novel z naciskiem na logiczno-zręcznościówkę. Jesteśmy "Unhackerem", który stworzył AI o imieniu Weedy. Większość informacji na temat głównego bohatera znajdziemy w drugiej części tejże serii, dlatego polecam w nią zagrać tuż po przejściu pierwszej części.
Naszą robotą jest odnalezienie intrygi między firmami, a dzięki temu docieramy małymi krokami do reszty fabuły, w której niemalże każda postać odgrywa ważną rolę.
Weedy - dziewczyna z fioletowymi włosami i oczami towarzyszy nam już od początku rozgrywki. Charyzmatyczna, gotowa do działania i pomocy. Jedna z najbardziej optymistycznych postaci w grze, z którą tworzymy najsilniejszą więź.
A2 - za przeproszeniem rozwydrzony dzieciak, który sądzi, że wie wszystko najlepiej i robi wszystko tak samo. Bardzo irytująca, jednak na pewno znajdzie swoich fanów. Uważam, że osoba podkładająca głos tejże postaci idealnie oddała charakter panny z zielonymi włosami.
Miss Debug - jedna z najciekawszych (moim zdaniem) AI, która jest zawsze śpiąca, jednak posiada największy zasób wiedzy. O niej nie wiemy zbyt sporo, dlatego trafiła na pierwsze miejsce w liście "kogo lubię najbardziej". Moim zdaniem wygląda najlepiej z całej trójki.
Przechodzenie poziomów na początku jest niezwykle łatwe, jednak później ich trudność zostaje zwiększona i gra staje się bardziej "wciągająca". Tych, którzy są odważni, zapraszam do wypróbowania trybu z jednym życiem - zabawa murowana!

+ można "wczuć się" w postać Unhackera (polecam spojrzeć na drugą część - bardziej rozbudowana rozgrywka oraz więcej zagadnień z informatyki)

+ poziomy trudności
+ można się zrelaksować
+ tania i do tego warta!
Minusy:
- studio zadbało o szatę graficzną, jednak mogło być w tym przypadku ciut lepiej
- rozdzielczość ekranu 4:3
- dosyć krótka (około półtorej godziny rozrywki)
Moja ocena to 8.5/10!
