Bought this for 50 cents. The game is actually pretty fun, despite being fairly simple. You get a lot of racing categories and tracks, and 10 teams which are also fully customisable (except liveries). You can play quick races or championships against AI. And the AI is actually also pretty decent for such a simple game. There's also online but it's basically dead, no servers.

After some time playing you realize the gameplay itself seems to have a massive lack of direction, it's confused on whether it wants to be an arcade racer or a sim, combined with being made with a lack of knowledge or understanding of basic real world driving mechanics, the end product ends up being an incompetently thrown together mess.

Adding workshop will make a HUGE improvement to the game, as we will play in much more realistic cars, with realistic liveries, in realistic looking circuits, with realistic adds.
But you are racing without Ferrari, McLaren, Williams... Porsche, Ford, etc.

Excelente juego con un control muy cuidado. A diferencia de Super Woden gp 2, aquí la cámara está lo suficientemente lejos para ver la curva en la que tienes que frenar y colocar el coche, parece una tontería, pero en el otro juego es frustante ir con un coche rápido y ver la curva cuando ya es tarde para frenar.

I recommend buying Ultimate Racing 2D 2, as it includes more features than the first one. But if you want to add the first game to your library, its price is very affordable.
It would be great if they added cromos from the best cattegories of the gam, it could really add some life and variety to the game over time.

Very simple but addictive racing game that teaches basic racing mechanics - pit stops, tire selection, negotiating turns, etc... can play PvP on a keyboard. Perfect for my 7 year-old son. Don't spend over $2 for this - on sale it is a great little gem of a game

Pretty decent top-down racing game as long as you lower your expectations and go in open-minded. Sure, the game looks like something made in Flash, for the low price you're getting quite a few things tho. There are many tracks and vehicles to choose from, a lot of options to tinker with ai, plenty of gamemodes and even local + online multiplayer. I didn't expect I would spent nearly 7 hours playing this thing but here we are.

To make it short, it's a fine game but you're better off playing Ultimate Racing 2D 2.
It's a good game, vehicles feels different, there are some different cars to chose, a fine quantity of tracks to race on.
AI on highest difficulty is challenging but once you know how, you can beat them without too much effort (compared to some other racing games where they'll just wreck you no matter what).
Ultimate Racing 2D 2 is the better choice though, it has Steam workshop and modding possibilities (new tracks, new cars, etc).
It should have been in the first game but anyway.
By the way, be careful with the workshop of Ultimate Racing 2D 2, i've downloaded "some" mods and it's taking about 20gb of space... we're talking about no more than 1mb sized mods...

De rebajas es una joya, por 60 céntimos que me costó, vale la pena. Estoy esperando ahorrar para el 2, que tiene más pistas y nuevas funcionalidades, pero si no te lo puedes permitir, este está perfecto. Un juego muy entretenido, casual y al cual le puedes echar las horas que quieras. Las únicas pegas que le encuentro es que los motores suenan muy básicos y que falta pulir los menús. De todos modos, recomendaría sin duda. El editor realmente tenía razón cuando deicidió ponerle de nombre Ultimate Racing 2D.

It truly deserves the name Ultimate Racing 2D.
A throwback to the days of 8 and 16-bit consoles in terms of gameplay.
Although you won't get absolute realistic physics or VR support on this title, it is a lesson in game design with just how much the cars handling changes between classes and how fine tuned it for cars in the same class.
Definitely playable on a keyboard as well, which is a huge plus for acade style games.
Feels like playing a mix of "Enduro" with "Speed Race: Challenge of the X Racer" with "Micromachines".

Графических изысков тут нет, да и без русского перевода разобраться не очень просто во всех этих гоночных реалиях. Привычка играть в гонки от третьего лица также сказывается и поэтому сверху очень уж утомляет этот ограниченный обзор.
Но может любители такого вида найдутся. Также реализмом движения машинки тут и не пахнет. То есть игра вообще даже близко не стоит хотя бы с ощущениями движения, как телетрансляции при виде с вертолёта. Хотя бы так было, если им трудно другие виды сделать для удобства.

Bought it on sale for $1.99, It looked fun and it could have been fun, if only the controls weren't so bad. Keyboard or game pad it doesn't matter, when turning right or left it is full on, all the way right or all the way left. The skills needed here are how long to mash the gas key and then when to get off it and start tapping to get through a corner, same with the steering, and don't bother with the break it is useless. If you can master the mash and tap skill set needed to stay off the walls, out of the grass and dirt and keep the car on the track this could be fun for you. Otherwise, you'll play it for 3.9 hr, then permanently delete the game, place it in the Crap Heap category of your Steam library and write a review much like this one.
Muy buen juego y bastante amplio para ser uno de carreras top-down. Tiene muchas clases y autos con distintos comportamientos, además de una conducción satisfactoria, pero con un alto techo de habilidad (son re tryhard).
La cámara es algo rara, ya que no siempre mantiene al auto en el centro una vez que te aproximas a los bordes del juego. Se siente extraño pero es llevadero. Estaría bueno que tenga la posibilidad de hacer carreras multi-clase también, pero es muy recomendable en el estado acutal (hay que tener en cuenta que salió el Ultimate Racing 2D 2).

This is a game best played with friends but for online play you cannot host your own server, you must use a public server that appear to be absolute dog ♥♥♥♥♥ - packet loss, rubber banding, completely bollocked results.

It's good fun, no bugs, but feels underdeveloped.
If you want to experience 2d racing with 35 cars and a few dozen tracks, this can be fun.
I like the career mode, but most of the other game styles are too customizable, and not real competition.
I'm guessing you can find competition online, but that seems.. not too alive ATM, probably better in the sequel.
I enjoyed it, but I can't say it's one of the best games. 7/10

Foi uma delícia fazer 100% desse jogo e conhecer a franquia, nem sabia da existência do segundo jogo! Uma gameplay viciante e vários sistemas de competição que vão render bastante tempo de diversão. Realmente um trabalho bem executado.

There is no career mode, what you get in "career mode" is quickrace exept all but one of the cars/tracks are locked behind playing them in order.
Great game to play for a little or long while. Runs well probably on a lot of systems of any spec, multiplayer works well, kids like having races with me and seeing me lap them haha.
I really love this game. It aims to be a simple but more realistic race game. The focus is more on perfect race lines and consistent racing, not arcade style weapons or crashing into each other. Clipping the grass is punishing and really slows you down. Each type of vehicle has different handling characteristics. Career mode is cool with better teams offering a spot with good results. Another cool thing is you don't need to unlock anything. Just arrive and pick your favorite vehicle. I like the motorbike class. The different tracks are represented as countries and shows little versions of a famous tracks, like a mini COTA for USA or Silverstone for UK. But there are also dirt ovals for flat track or sliding cars. It's great and simple. Sound effects are not great but easy to forgive, since you expect it to feel basic. The joy of the game is the racing. Putting down consistent and fast laps. This is a good change of pace when I don't want to play more serious racing sims.

It's a fun game that is clearly made with a *lot* of love, and it shows in the tracks' layouts and scene, which aim to represent actual race tracks. It's missing some features like map and livery editor, but overall is a cheap and light fun passtime. Can be hard at the start, tho.

Ultimate Racing 2D is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as if it was a real PC game (it's not)... it's a cash grab from greedy mobile devs. The game is an arcade like ripoff of 1980's top down racers like SuperSprint where, you guessed it, you drive around a track against a bunch of other racers and see if you can go faster than they do. Fair enough. I'll go so far as to say this mobile app isn't exactly shovelware, some attention to detail and features has been put in here as you have a bunch of different game modes, campaign mode, career and upgrade stuff going on, etc.
I personally didn't like the gameplay, the handling for the cars was a bit too loose and unforgiving. Nobody is going to be playing a 2D retro pixel arcade game and demanding fidelity and gritty controls, they want arcade fun... I don't think this game delivers there. Also, it's a mobile app, and a free one, but the devs think that PC gamers are scumbags who should pay them $5 so they can enjoy playing a free mobile app. I have a low opinion of developers who treat PC gamers like second class citizens. It's not ok.
From a technical perspective, as a mobile app, this doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.
A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. On the upside here, at least it's 16 bit style/SuperVGA tier, but that's still retrograde and not close to what the PCs of today are capable of. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.
There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.
Because this is a mobile app, it carries a number of deliberate design deficiencies. Compromises were made to cater to the iPhones that the mobile app was designed for. These are unfortunate handicaps and limitations that PC gamers shouldn't be forced to accept, but it's evident that PC was an afterthought for the iPhone developers who are to blame for this. The mobile app is deficient as a result of these choices, and would have been so much better without the handicaps that designing games for mobile phones forces upon a game. Once more, mobile devs have made gaming worse for everyone. I didn't spend thousands on building a gaming rig just so I could pretend it's an iPhone.
Some of the defects in the mobile app can be attributed to the choice of using the GameMaker Studio construction kit/toolset. This is a very poor quality toolset favoured by amateur developers as it's cheap and requires little in the way of development skill, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities. Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine. GameMaker Studio is most commonly used to make retro pixel shovelware and cash grabs.
A strong argument can be made that construction kits like GameMaker Studio should never be used to make games for profit, as the "developer", Applimazing has done here. These construction kits are intended to teach people some of the basic principles of game development, and to make small demos to pass around with friends. They're not intended to replace to actual work of real, professional game developers. So it's inappropriate when amateurs try to use these for profit, without any actual, real game development effort taking place. This doesn't result in products that have any real meaningful value for gamers.
These technical defects push this mobile app below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.
Once more we see greedy mobile devs trying to scam PC gamers. On Steam, this is $5 USD, on app stores, it's free. Mobile devs must learn PC gamers are not here to be gouged, and can't be expected to pay a premium for a free mobile app just because it's been lazily dumped on Steam. This is unacceptable disrespect for PC gamers. Because this can be played free elsewhere, and because of the other defects, it's impossible to recommend. Who do they think we are?
Really fun top down racer. Might not look like much but there's loads of content, tight racing and strategy! There's stuff that could be added like custom tracks and cars, fuel and damage but that's been added on the second game, which I'm sure I'll buy once I see a good sale and finish this first one :)

Ultimate Racing 2D is an adequate top-down racer. Its ultra low price of $0.50 (during one of its frequent sales) makes it a compelling choice as a game you can buy for all your friends to play together, without even breaking five dollars. Sure, you can find racing games that are better, and it's not a "must have", but it's good enough if you just want a cheap, simple racing game to play with the whole gang. What it lacks in pizzazz it makes up for with customization. With plenty of tracks, cars, and options built in, you can fine tune it to play just the way you want to play it. Multiplayer has a few quirks but works well enough to still be fun.

[h1]Gameplay[/h1]
Ultimate Racing 2D feels like it lacks some personality, but it still manages to check all the minimal criteria for a decent racing game. "Adequate" is the word I'll keep coming back to. It plays as you would expect an arcade-style game to play (acceleration, breaking and steering are pretty much the only controls you need). However, during your first few races, you will likely lose horribly, because some technique required. Steering is a bit stiff (i.e. realistic?) for an arcade game, meaning you will need the right amount of braking and deceleration for taking corners. It's often more than you'd expect. Going off road severely slows you down as well. Cutting through the grass to make a sharp corner more often hurts than helps. There's no vehicle damage to speak of. At most, wear on your tires is the closest thing to damage in this game. That's probably for the best, as the AI doesn't make a great effort to avoid contact. These are mostly good things that should exist in any racing game. It's adequately balanced.
Visually, it has the bare essentials to get by. Everything is unanimated except for the tire smoke, and rain animation. The scenery is roughly plopped down. Not all objects are displayed from the same point of reference. Granted that graphically, it's a 2D game (as advertised), but some 2D objects are isometric from conflicting angles, and some are not (see screenshot below). It's a minor gripe though.

The sound is even more basic (think 1980's 8-bit era), almost to the point of being annoying. The sound of the engine revving as it goes through gears, grinds on my ears a bit.
This might not seem like a glowing review so far, but I believe it's compensated by the fact that it's at such a great price point (when on sale), as well as some other strengths I'll discuss in the next few sections.
[h1]Customization[/h1]
Customization is one of its' strongest areas. A large collection of options, with a wide array of granularity for each one, means you can tweak things just the way you like it. But it's not a dizzying encyclopedia of options that only a racing aficionado would understand. It's all the basic gameplay functions you would care to tweak. Qualifying rounds, car type, AI skill, number of AI opponents, weather, tire wear, number of laps, track, and toggling catch-up mode are just a few of the things that can be tweaked. While using all the variable features for cars, tracks, difficulty, weather, and tire wear, its near impossible to simply memorize a track and pwn your friends on it. Each lap feels different due to these always changing factors. Each aspect that changes requires some play style adjustment. As such it presents quite a challenge for mastering. Of course, you can turn off those ever-changing settings, and play with only one car type, if you want to keep things simple, with less variability.
There's a generous number of cars to choose from. The store description says "300+" cars, which is technically correct, but it's really 38 car types; each with ten slight variations on performance and color schemes for those main types. 38 is still a healthy number to choose from, though. This detail highlights a recurring theme in this game: breadth over depth. While there are tons of cars to choose from, unfortunately they mostly feel like cosmetic differences. There are behavioral differences between vehicles, but the differences primarily consist of speed and agility variations on the same theme. There's no real quirks or personality differences between car types. Driving the tractor combine isn't a whole lot different than driving the F1 car.

The tracks are plentiful as well (46 in total). The variation in track types is quite good: long tracks, short tracks, curvy tracks, oval tracks, dirt tracks, etc. I was pleased with the amount of selection here.
AI skill is the most granular setting in the game. You can pick a skill level from 1 to 120. The granularity mostly boils down to speed and agility. They can be made to be as slow as molasses or blazingly fast. The driving ability of the AI appears to be the same regardless. They won't drive more recklessly or overshoot turns at lower skill levels.
[h1]Multiplayer vs Single Player[/h1]
The multiplayer capabilities was one of my primary interests in this title. I was specifically looking for a game that supported more than four players, and supported both online and local competition. It passes all those requirements. One minor, but noteworthy disappointment is that you can't mix local multiplayer with online multiplayer opponents (e.g. two people playing locally vs two people playing online). It's either one or the other. Other than that, multiplayer worked as expected. Four friends and I were able to play through a few races. There were a couple minor lag issues where on my screen I crossed the finish first, but on my friends screen he crossed the finish first (I was awarded the win, as the host, on both sides). The lag only affects where you appear on others screens, luckily it didn't cause any jitteryness in the experience.
The variety in single player modes was enough to keep me interested. Event mode puts you in specific challenges where you have to maintain certain standings with different cars types. Career and Championship modes lets you set up a series of races of your own choosing. Coin mode is where you grind through a large number of races, earning more coins to unlock faster and better cars.
[h1]Compared to Ultimate Racing 2D 2[/h1]
There's a newer version of this same game called "Ultimate Racing 2D 2". It has some new features, but is mostly the same game. When on sale this original version is only $0.50. The sequel is still over $5 when on sale, more than a 10x difference in price. With the games being so close in many regards except sale price, I lean more in favor of the original version.
[h1]Achievements and Completion Time[/h1]
It took me 18 hours to get all of the achievements.
Overall, I thought the achievements were well done. They are a nice spread between basic and difficult, covering most areas of the game. None were bugged or glitchy, so they get a +1 for that. Just managing to get the achievements to work right is better than some other games can do at 20 times the price. Some achievements might seem impossible at first glance, like defeating the AI on ultimate difficulty, but it's mainly a matter of playing the AI on the right track. The AI has trouble on some tracks. I'll leave it up to you discover which ones those are.

A deeply flawed top-down racing game with terrible weather implementation, awful pit actions and cheating A.I.
My reasons for those observations:
Firstly the weather. You have a percentage scale you can select from 0% chance of rain to 100%. Zero and one hundred are self-explanatory, every other increment however (10, 25, 50, 75) is almost a guarantee of rain no matter which you pick. While you'd assume that picking 10% would mean 1 in every 10 races are wet, what you actually get is rain in all but one of them. I can only assume that the scale is not chances of rain falling at all, but chances of the rain continuing for the entire race. Only then would it make any sense.
Why does the A.I. cheat? They're psychic, that's why. If you're in the middle of a race and you get a forecast warning that rain is coming, the other cars automatically know when it's going to start raining and if they should pit immediately. If they do and you choose to do something different (like stay out another lap), you'll be punished with the rain arriving within the first quarter of the lap and will most likely be overtaken by all the cars that pitted before the lap's over. There is no scope for taking a risky strategy that might pay off because the A.I cars know the best strategy in advance and do it.
Furthermore the track doesn't get wet in any believable fashion: The moment it starts raining, your non-wet tyres are useless and have no grip. I'm guessing the developer lives somewhere where it doesn't rain because otherwise they'd know that when you get a light shower, it's some minutes before the road is hazardous and tyres won't just cease to function the moment a few drops of water hit the track. Keeping the time scaling in mind, you should get at least half a lap of unaffected driving when it starts raining. But you don't; the wet track is either on or off.
This also happens at the start of races where the track is completely dry, there's a "chance" of rain and yet the entire field choose to start on wet tyres. What happened to the racing rule of always being on the correct tyre for the conditions? I guess the developer isn't actually a racing fan and so has never heard of this expression, nor that wet tyres on a bone-dry track will fall to pieces and become useless within a short space of time.
Similarly when using tyre wear in races, the effect of them being worn is exaggerated whereby you go from having all the grip you need to skating all over the place within the space of a single lap. Gradual it is not.
The developer knowing nothing about racing would certainly explain the A.I. cars being immovable objects too. While you can bash them offline by entering a corner too quickly and diving up the inside, most of the time you're the one being forced wherever the car you're racing decides it wants to go. They don't stick rigidly to one line and sometimes swerve from side to side when they should be going in a straight line. And they have a particularly annoying habit of being completely unaware of your presence if you happen to be on the outside of them: They'll just run you off the road, every time. Also if you happen to be alongside a car when he wants to pit, he'll push you into the pits with him because he apparently has no idea that you're there.
While on the subject of pitting: That's a mess too. You do have your own pit which doesn't change no matter which team you're driving for, but all the other cars have a pit at the front end of the pitlane together. If a bunch of them come in together (which they usually do) and you're taking your stop; unless you happen to get lucky and there's a gap for you to pull out into, you won't be able to leave your pitbox until all the cars have passed or you manage to find the right angle to force your way through the line before you get blocked-in. Some tracks have a gap between the A.I pits and the wall, which you can fit through but they don't always park straight either so it's not a guarantee you're going to be able to leave the pits without losing a whole heap of positions. Nearly all of these issues wouldn't exist if the other cars had their own pit boxes.
There are no separate teams for each championship (too much like hard work I guess). Instead you get one set of car and driver names (editable) which are used in every championship, from Tractor racing to Formula A. Likewise the car colours remain the same through all the championships too, which kinda makes a mockery of there being so many different styles of racing. What's the point in having 30 forms of motorsport when all the cars, teams and drivers are the same in each of them? The only things that change are the models used (if you can call a 2D image of a car, a model), the sounds a tiny bit and whether the car has a tendency to understeer or oversteer.
A smaller but not insignificant issue is the HUD which is located at the top of the screen; far, far away from where you're focusing to drive the cars. You have to take your eyes off the road to check things like tyre characteristics, rainfall level and position.
Right at the top of the mound of annoyance though is that the game has a "sequel". It's not a sequel, it's exactly the same game just with a few of the issues ironed out: It has the same tracks, cars and graphics, just with a handful of extras of each.
Either the developer doesn't know how to do DLC or they're quite content to rip people off by making them buy the same game twice. If they'd cared at all about their customers, they'd have taken this first game off the store the moment they released the second one.
