Storyline

You start the game as a minor noble, in service to your King. With over a dozen nations and over 50 Lords to choose from, each playthrough is truly unique and tells it`s own story. There are many ways to play the game. The Grand Campaign. Classical RTS skirmish with solo, coop and multiplayer options. And a story driven introductory campaign that introduced the player to the the time period through 9 crafted scenarios.

Das Spiel braucht noch einiges an Entwicklung und Patches.
Die Animationen sind noch alle ziemlich schlecht. So macht es keinen Spaß seinen Truppen beim Kämpfen zuzuschauen. auch das Interface braucht noch Arbeit um übersichtlicher zu werden. Städtemenü, Forschungsmenü und co. sehen aus wie bei Spielen aus den 2000. Einige Sachen lassen sich nicht anklicken besonders wenn man mehrere Einheit dort hat. Einige Funktionen der Steuerung gehen nicht.
Anzeigen sind auch noch nicht genau, sodass wenn ich Bogenschützen auf Mauern beordere sie zwar auf die mauern gehen, jedoch die Truppenanzeige das nicht so zeigt.
Auch find ich es sehr schade, dass man Einheiten nicht wie in Total War in Formationen bringen kann. Außerdem können die Einheiten einfach durch jegliche Formation rennen. Die KI ist auch dumm as ♥♥♥♥.
Um strategisch Interessant in den Kämpfen zu sein, wenn schon nicht ansehnlich, fehlt eben an Formation und mehr Vielseitigkeit. Das was Total War hat. Allgemein kann sich von Total War allgemein mal mehr abgeschaut werden.
Die Idee den Fokus mehr auf Belagerungskämpfe zu packen finde ich eigentlich ziemlich nice. So bekommen auch Upgrades, eigentlich die Städte im gesamten, mehr Bedeutung.
Zum jetzigen Zeitpunkt würde ich das Spiel nicht empfehlen, jedoch arbeiten die Entwickler noch aktive am Spiel und Patches. Ich glaube jedoch trotzdem nicht wirklich daran, dass es noch über sich hinauswachsen wird. Schließlich ist es schon über 6 Jahre draußen, sieht immer noch schlecht aus und fühlt sich sehr plump und unzugänglich an.

- Yapay zekası berbat.

- Arayüz hem eski hem de kullanışsız. Basit bir komutu bile üç kere tıklamak gerekiyor.

I got this game on bundle, and this was the second game I've played of the series. Just minor improvements from the previous entry (Kingdom Wars 2: Definitive Edition). There are bigger maps and a stronger focus on global strategy sound great on paper, but after a while it becomes clear you’re mostly playing the same game again. Fun at first, then repetition slowly creeps in like winter in a medieval village. I can only recommended for fans of the genre, if bought on sale. I'll give it a 6/10.

I won't say that this is a complicated game with many features. However, if you like games such as Age of Empire or Stronghold Crusader, you probably like this game. The gameplay is a mixture of Crusader King and Age of Empire with the game is played in campaign map format and play-pause situation. And when you attack a city or an army, you will be zoomed in as the Age of Empire format. You need to construct a building, upgrade your army, and establish more army to win the battle in certain amount of time. If you are looking for complex strategy game at least as same as Crusader King or Total War series, then I STRONGLY against buying this game bcs it might seem repetitive for you. But if you depart from a game such as Age of Empire, then this is the game for you. Also, it would be much more worth it if you buy it on sale and with the Greater World DLC too since the map only covers England and France.

Posiblemente uno de los juegos que mas me arrepiento de haber comprado, en su momento y ahora mismo tambien. Graficamente un desastre para el año que se lanzo, la banda sonora mas de lo mismo y jugablemente parece una beta permanente, me parece que no recibe mas actualizaciones y viendo el historial de los desarrolladores no es nada raro. Ultimately it is a good game but it tries to be a grand strategy game when it isn't.
The strategy: Get attacked by every country on the planet and beat their invasions one after the other until they declare white peace and you get the point of creating other armies to wipe the map. Levy enough carts/animals/serfs to stay tax positive and use battles to increase wealth/treasure.
Diplomacy: sucks, gifts cost way too much, peace costs way too much and you have to pay to trade...where is the subversion/capitulation of weaker nations, vassalage etc...go as deep as you want there.
Battles/Seige: good system but grindy and repetitive - would like to see more variety in units/tactics
AI: terrible - they fight by sending wave after wave of junk troops...which is annoying. I spend most of my time transferring troops around to heal just in time to get hit again.
Economy: Weird, tough to get some trade goods for research growth, and you can tax cities up to 100% and they stay happy? But things that should make people happy make them angry like markets...which also don't turn profit.

The concepts around this game is really amazing, to combine both RTS and real time grand strategy is always good, but to add RTS and build up your towns and cities and make them formidable and prosperous is really great. So the creators get a A+ for concepts.

However, the execution though interesting and fun has issues and restraints on it. I experienced crashes to desktop mainly going from town, city, and battle to map... not always but it happens. The actions on map make difficult to fully enjoy it, you have buttons that generate in army that are not meant for the army like recruit or it actually says something like "it costs silver to recruit troops on the map so for early game they recommend recruiting them from towns and cities and switch them over to your army"... so your army cannot hit recruit, it keeps you from doing it even though the button exists, they won't let you use it. But when you click on the city and click the same button it lets you recruit anyways so they want you to transfer troops between city and army... but then again the button transfer troops won't work and it forces you do double click on the city over and over until it pops up!

Also for diplomacy there is nothing and you do not even know what is going on, they say France will invade England with Scotland in the intro but then the Papacy, Bavaria, Hungry, Castile, and many other Armies are marching around England (within 1-2 seasons).. they have peace symbols shown next to their armies and conquered towns but they take over towns but you can take them back over and I will add the same "peace" symbols are on the other armies of the nation you are in.

They have new games so I will stop playing this and move on to the others... if you know the history of the Hundred Years war or you watched the Robin Hood movie with Russell Crowe you don't need to play it!

Sadly a waste of time, units don't seem to interact properly, buildings don't work sometimes during sieges (can't open them/access them).

Tried starting a Venice game (no dlc's) and my character was in Greece but base game doesn't have Greece so you were just stuck in oblivion watching NPC's.....

♥♥♥♥ game, just play total war or Stronghold series.

When I originally posted a review on this or a prior release the dev asked me to revise my review; so I deleted it, yet never revised it. All this games are literally the same with barely any new features added. Each iteration is practically the same graphically, mechanics and functionally; I'd stay away. I'm posting this because I looked at this and saw the new game looking 1:1 to this and it's just absurd.

I also believe EA is a good format to get started, but having every game you plan to release go through EA is just absurd and abusive in my eyes.

A cheap copy of a Total War game.
The perdormance is poor, the visuals are poor, the mechanics are shallow, bugs, unintuitive controlls, there just couple maps that are constantly repeated. This may be good as student project, not as something you sell to people. There are no reasons to recommend this game on its own, let alone over any of the older TW games, just get them instead.

Mouse controls on the main map are very poor. You can go crazy. Battles are okay.

如果你喜欢中世纪，那么这是个很有意思的游戏，我才买了2天就已经玩了这么久，所以我说的是真的。
但是这个游戏还有很多不足的地方，玩的越久这种感觉就越明显。

1.科技系统，有时候我真的不太清楚我的科技是已经解锁了还是没有解锁，而且我发现有些科技我无论如何都无法解锁，即使所需要的资源已经足够了（游戏里面的科技分为本地科技以及全局科技，我说的是全局科技，但是本地科技也存在科技解锁与未解锁难以辨识的情况）。

2.战略地图，大地图我不满意的地方在于当后期你的城镇多了以后，你很难迅速而且快捷的找到你的城镇以及军队，还有一点就是在战略地图上我即便已经拉到最大视角能够看到的城镇熟练也相当有限，大概只有4、5个，想要找到其他区域有些麻烦。

3.战斗单位与非战斗单位，游戏当中一座城或者一支军队最多只能容纳30只单位，这是一个很好的设定。但是在实际战斗中非战斗单位的作用很有限，因为铁矿和石头的收集是自动进行的，像鸡以及牛这类动物能够自己产生食物，农奴需要做的只有采集木头。
但是进入战斗之后，你会发现作为进攻方，你已经有了一支成型的军队，你没有空间再去招募更多的军队，那么也就没有收集资源的必要了。
所以我觉得或许将战斗单位和非战斗单位分开，非战斗单位作为一种维持战斗单位所必要的资源会更好一些。

4.外交系统，现在的外交系统基本和没有一样，我不知道外交界面中的地位以及声望有什么用，以及怎么去获得它们。不过我看了开发日志，开发组似乎是要完善外交系统的。

这个游戏现在只是EA阶段，有不足很正常但是我真的希望这个游戏能够越做越好。

Real time strategy games live and die by their controls. Units in this game are difficult to control, the UI is difficult to read, and even clunkier to use.

It's also nearly impossible to tell what's going on in battles. In the tutorial battles my frame rate tanked to unplayable slide-show levels and I'm running a fairly powerful PC these days.

If you want a game like this, go play total war instead. Units are more responsive, UI is easier to read, mechanics are clearer, and it performs better.

That being said, I applaud the attempt to tackle this genre and scale as an indie dev. This just looks like the case of a game with too much scope not given enough resources or time to really shine.

Get it if you want to support indie RTS, but it won't be a good time.

The game is good and has a medieval taste. Campaign have elements of Total War campaign and battle mode feels like Age of Empires but overall it's a fun game.

I would love to play the game as Catalonia, but it seems they chose Aragon as the kingdom name, but in reality, as is well explained in the intro, it was the kingdom of Aragon that was legated to the Count of Barcelona to avoid Castillan assimilation. An assimilation that happened later anyways, and the same fate seems seems that awaits us in the end too.
But I can't feel dragged to playing as Aragon.
Imho catalan counties would have made much more sense. Too many historical boundaries still rule against Catalonia being recognised as the core nation of the mediterranian modenr europe. I suppose the winers take it all.
So sorry, I can't recommend it because of this political issue that annoys me. If you managed to let us edit the name of the kingdom, at least.

It gives the feelings of old 2010 like games. With some of the old jank (in a good way) It runs smooth. Feels amazing. And is actually rather easy to learn after playing the tutorial.

Really shoddy, without a whole lot of thought seemingly put into it. Stone mines in the town square. Can't control your army during sieges unless you transferred the whole thing to the town beforehand.

Absolutely atrocious, aggressively stupid AI: I lost a town because the AI took over my army and (instead of defending the castle when the victory condition was to last 13 minutes) went f*cking off to blob-attack enemy troops on the other side of the map. Enemy armies a fraction of the size of yours will attack one after the other--when they have no chance of winning.

Why do attackers in sieges--or for that matter, *anyone* in field battles--start with a keep and build a town? It doesn't make sense.

Clunky controls: can't back out of the steward without opening and closing the menu. No save option. Can't execute facing movements while defending a castle because it moves the camera.

Overall, just a series of really baffling design choices that left me wondering if this was just left unfinished or if it was made by a child.

Bought this like 5 years ago but didn't get into it, saw the potential though and it was and is only a couple of hours of paid work to get anyway.

It's had over 40 updates of some description and the developers seem to be rather active. It's got much prettier than I remembered it being and the maps a lot bigger and the controls are fine and you don't need things to be perfect to have a good game.

It's fun enough, a good historical period, the mechanics are easy to understand, just needs spacebar pause/unpause hotkey and it's as good as it needs to be.

This game has a great potential for being one of the best historical rts in its own way, it looks like a combination of total war with age of empires III in mechanics, but the best part is that you can choose a great number of civilizations to play and overall even if it's not too easy to play for new players on this genre, you will start to get used to the user interface once you start to understand the strategy that is set on this game, so though it might not look too interesting on the graphics but overall is still a good game, I recommend you to give it a try.

I wanted to like this game but it just isn't good. The tutorial is probably the best part. Its a pretty decent overview of game mechanics. The graphics are pretty bad. The game play is repetitive. The combat and lack of saved files kill this game. In the tutorial it appears balanced but on the campaign its different. combat overall is pretty slow. Archers appear to do no damage. At the start of my campaigns, two different ones, I have lost an equal battle by a significant amount. In the one before this review, the scots had 2 pikes, 3 mace, 2 archers, 2 levy. I had 2 pike, 2 mace, 3 archers, 4 levy, and a guard calv unit. The scots army rushed without building and even tho I met their army I got slaughtered. On medium difficulty. Since there are no save files, I can't attempt to repeat this battle so my campaign is over and I had just finished spending an hour doing the in city city building for all my cities / villages. I got further in my first campaign but a similar thing happened with an ambush on my main city. It's just not fun to do the same in city building over and over again for the terrible combat.. I get that some people don't like loading save files but some people do and its useful for people either learning or wanting to jump up the difficulty without the risk of losing an entire campaign due to taking on more of a challenge.

O um dos melhores jogos de estratégia que já joguei (e eu já joguei coisa pra caramba). O que me encanta nesse titulo é a capacidade de micro gerenciamento, desde o mapa mundi até a defesa do castelo ou aldeia. Cada batalha tem seus desafios, seja você atacando ou defendendo. A IA chega a ser perversa....
A parte diplomática também merece destaque, pois não é aquela coisa de aliado, neutro ou inimigo. Você começa como um nobre, a serviço de um rei, em uma aliança ou não de reinos, no meio de uma guerra entre 2 países muito fortes (frança e inglaterra). A luta pra não tomar uma rasteira dos outros nobres do próprio reino já é complexo, isso enquanto guerras acontecem. É um RTS sem save e load, gostei disso, nada de dar load se perder a batalha, seja tática ou estratégica. As defesas de castelo também são únicas, não parece nada repetido em nenhuma batalha. Ainda estou jogando, 169 horas e acho que não cheguei nem na metade do que o jogo pode proporcionar. Super recomendo

Medieval Kingdom Wars, an amazing grand strategy medieval game, well ahead of its time and to this day 7 years later the developers still pour love into this wonderful passion project.

Pros: One of the most in depth military wise grand strategy games I've ever played, from the unit types to research and types of battle and how dense and down the wire they get, it doesn't disappoint.

Soundtrack, it has a nice soundtrack that can go very well with certain situations in battles.

Graphics, as of now you couldn't really tell this is a game from 2017, the graphics are nice and smooth and makes every battle look as good as they sound.

Variety of nations, there is about a dozen to choose from each with several lord options to choose from.

Game play density, there is hours of content to sink into, it took me 24 hrs of total playtime to conquer Europe, there's an immense amount of strategy in war and even diplomacy to dive into and an economy to manage to make all this possible.

Price, 9.99 normally, I got it for 5.99 on sale, that's a steal!

Cons: Really the only gripe I have is that the replay value isn't very high outside trying another kingdom.

The first time i played this games was in 2021. It was a not so great game but after the major update it has found a special place in my heart. This game is full of wondrous adventure and combat. The graphics are decent and the story line is really cool. You can mold the world and your empire to anything you could every dream of. I hated this game - I played for 40 minutes and it was like looking after somebody's baby who you actively hate (the baby and the parents). Everything about it boiled my piss. The graphics and the UI and the narration and the gameplay - just what the actual eff is this meant to do? I can't not recommend this enough. I want my 40 minutes back you a-holes. Time dilation is a thing - it felt like an eternity. I have mental illness.

This is brilliant,
Building a kingdom from the ground up or starting as a king and defending or destroying your enemies.
Europe is a battleground and you can choose the outcome. From laying siege to an enemy castle or fighting on the sees, diplomacy tries to fill or deplete the coffers of a rising empire. Building defences, upgrading buildings, researching technologies, raising your economy and forces wile crushing those who appose your rule.

So many days spent as a king... I started demanding coffee from random peasan... people.

Amo los juegos medievales por lo que este tuvo mi debilidad, pero en rendimiento se queda pobre, la jugabilidad y su sistema de construcción de ciudades y economía esta bien, el sistema de batalla ahora es otro tema, no favorece mucho a la infantería y tardan mucho en matar a los enemigos y lo hace tedioso el mapa de campaña se mueve lentísimo.
Si sos fan de lo medieval te va a encantar ahora si no tanto capaz te cueste pasarlo.

A veeery slow game to play!
The thing that blows immersion is the "grid" thing and those sketches that are on the campaign map, those make the map "clattery"...
To the Developers, those stuff are not needed and they don't make the map terrain more beautiful, it makes it overwhelming and borring.

I don't think the City/village morale works properly. I have never seen any of my fiefs with happy populance, only Neutral and Unhappy.

Most of the time I have to stay and waiting for money to come in and there is nothing going on, until a 2-3 stack army attack my City. I defeat them and after that I have to wait again for the next attack and the next batch of money to come in, heal my troops rinse and repeat...
No expansion, no me attacking, just Defend and Win all the time.
Where is the fun in that?

Medieval Kingdom Wars is an RTS game taking place during the European Hundred Years’ War. The base game contains 14 factions and over 50 different lords, with many more to be found in the DLCs.
In it, you will have to manage your fiefs and armies, and later on, an entire kingdom while also maintaining diplomatic relations and treaties with other kingdoms.

The game doesn’t have a dedicated, beyond the concept of the 100-year war, and some narration whenever a kingdom gets eliminated, as the story is your own to make.

The game has many various mechanics each separated for combat, research, diplomacy, and kingdom management.
The main focus of gameplay happens on the World Map, where you move around your armies and manage the kingdom. Then you have battles, which take place on different-looking maps depending on the area where you fight.
Battles on the field vary on the location but are mostly straightforward and don’t have much in terms of natural barriers preventing paths. Naval battles aren’t fought in terms of ship against ship, but army vs army, but on boats pre-connected by planks, and also don’t have resource gathering.
Each army spawns opposite of one another facing each other, both starting with a Manor and if it’s a settlement battle, the defending side starts with the building that was already constructed in the settlement beforehand but can still be changed and upgraded.
The attacking side, or when armies meet in the field, both start with a manor and a few plots of land on which you construct buildings to recruit more units, or produce resources.
The battle is won when a Manor is captured (Both captured, if there are 2 armies on one side), the player runs out of silver during a battle, or the AI as an attacker runs out of time.
Each nation has its own roster of units to be selected from separating into ranged and melee infantry, cavalry, livestock, and siege units, all being different in name and design for every nation, but are generally the same in terms of effectiveness.
Silver is the game’s currency and is needed for everything but research upgrades, (you can buy and sell research materials, and need to “research” some of them again in every battle if you want to use it) and also needed to initiate battles yourself, so you need to be careful to have enough.

On the world map in fiefs, you can build resource-gathering buildings, which increase your silver income (and give resource production in battles), military buildings to recruit units, which also increases upkeep, and walls for defense.
If you are defending a settlement, the buildings you construct and upgrade during the battle stay there after the battle, and the same goes for Units, anything you recruit remains in your army after battle.
You can also enter your settlements directly from the world map, to manage the workers and where exactly what building is constructed, but the longer you stay, the more unhappy citizens become. If they become too unhappy they can block your access to the city until their happiness is increased. (They may also rebel, but I am not sure, as I didn’t get that one)
While on the world map, you also have access to four advisors. One for checking the “history” of events that have happened during your playthrough, one for managing research and the required materials, one for diplomacy, and one for finding both your own, and visible armies, as well as the direction where an enemy army is coming to raid your territory.

The world map can also be sped up to x2 speed, while the battles can be fought on max x1.5. Both can also be paused or slowed down.
There is no manual saving in the game, beyond in combat, but the game does have autosaves, and saves whenever you quit the game, no matter what you were doing.
It isn’t difficult to learn and is fun, but it does have some issues or things that could be improved.
The world map has poor differentiation on what armies and fiefs you are at war with, the coloring of nation territories on the mini-map of the world map doesn’t help much with distinguishing what dot belongs to your kingdom, and which belongs to a different one, as many are the same or almost same color.
Armies and fiefs on the world map can be awkward to select without fully zooming in, as the hitboxes for them can be a bit weird at times, and border territory on many parts of the world map is also barely visible with a very faint line.

Visually, the game leaves much to be desired as it looks very outdated, and despite that it can still run poorly depending on army size, but that’s usually fixed by slowing game time.
The units themselves look decent design-wise but again are limited due to the graphics themselves.
Most towns look different and are built in a way to try and replicate the design of real medieval towns.
It’s not pretty to look at, but as long as graphics don’t matter too much, it’s alright.

[h1]Audio and Music[/h1]
The game contains good-sounding medieval-style music, recorded from instruments.
It also is voice-acted, and you can hear that whenever you start a new game from the narrator describing your situations, whenever something happens like a new king being elected, or when a kingdom gets eliminated.
It’s also there when you are moving armies, or ordering units in battle, but those are pretty awkward sounding and very repetitive.

Overall, the game was a very enjoyable experience both with and without the DLCs and it’s worth checking out, but it does have some flaws which can affect player experience.
