This game was recommended as similar in style to Stranded: Alien Dawn. It's not as amazing as Alien Dawn but scratches the itch. Main similarities are: you build the colony, slowly progress through the knowledge tree, tell your population what to do. There is no limitation on number of characters (you can get as many people as you can feed and support logistically) but obviously prehistoric setting limits the technology and tools. Also, obtaining resources or tools via trade is a no-go. There is a trader, surprisingly, that arrives regularly, but it's not very helpful.
Some things to keep in mind before deciding to purchase.
- Game pace is very slow. There is practically nothing to do for 2 out of 4 seasons. After you automate the tasks and build up some food reserves, it's straight sailing on maximum speed. It gets grindy in late game as you need more and more knowledge points to progress.
- Very limited information available. E.g. food is getting spoiled but you don't really know why or how fast exactly. Or some tools wear off but you don't know when / how many. This was very clear in Alien Dawn. However, when you reach mid-game, you can easily crank up production, so it stops being an issue.
- It's not clear what is causing low morale. I built all the spiritual buildings, food reserves are up to wazoo, plenty of space and very low workload. But these folks are constantly out there with frowny faces while they could be enjoying fresh air and having fun by the fire. I don't get it.
- Combat is half-baked. Raiders attack but you cannot direct your peeps to attack them back. Few brave ones claim atop the platforms and towers where they quickly get butchered. But the rest is just chilling there behind the gate, waiting to be attacked. Also, there are some terrain constraints to build fences, yet raiders somehow scale the cliffs, get around your expensive fortifications and attack your peasants from a flank while they're standing by the gate with surprised Pikachu faces. Thankfully, attacks are not frequent in normal mode but this is just lame. Not even close to satisfaction of gearing up and finally destroying an insect nest in Alien Dawn.
- Some odd UI choices. Usually I play with the mouse and rarely use keyboard. Most [good] city builders have robust UI to control all aspects. But in this game, you need to rely a lot on the keyboard shortcuts to access important management screens. Otherwise they're buried way deep in on-screen controls.
I liked that there were no gotchas in the game. No sudden "pollution" or supply chain issues that you could not foresee. Layout is not an issue at all and even though I managed to exhaust several mines, you just research the next resource and then don't need old resource anymore.
On a less positive note, there isn't an ending in this game. It's kind of anti-climatic. In Alien Dawn, you had missions that eventually ended. Here, you just go through the knowledge tree and then if you continue playing much longer, will probably just exhaust all stone and wood resources eventually. There is neither more progress nor ending. After all the grind, it felt rather unsatisfying. I also felt replay value is not as good as Alien Dawn. That game had 4 different planets and lots of variations driven by the character choices. Here it's just one planet, obviously, so variations are around the map and difficulty level.
Overall, I think it's worth the price on sale and provides entertainment for a few evenings. But Alien Dawn it ain't, sigh...

on ne ce lasse pas de refaire les differentes map avec divers facon d'agencer le camp de base.... plus on progresse plus de chose a gerer.... on passe literalement des heures sans sens rendre compte.... Personnelement j'adore...

Very Solid game, wish there was a way to more directly control population growth but that really was only a factor when trying to get achievements in end game and by that point you've already experienced the whole game. Definitely worth playing.
Dawn of Man — A Love Letter to the Unbothered
I played this game through its development. I watched it grow, shift, and settle into exactly what it was meant to be: a quiet masterpiece. If you're still complaining about it, you have every right to be wrong.
People romanticize the endless grind of game development, then turn around and vilify devs for moving on. Newsflash: developers are human. They have lives, goals, and other stories to tell. Dawn of Man doesn’t need infinite updates to justify its existence. It already carved out a niche no other game fills.
The forever search for perfection is the path of loneliness. Touch grass. Be happy. Find someone who loves you as much as you love your own miserable self. Or better yet, build a village, survive the winter, and let your people thrive.
This game is perfect for what it is. And that’s enough.

Takes forever
It is a slower paced game but you can speed it up to 8x speed. Even though it does take a bit to get used to it is not that hard to learn. Figuring out what works to grow your small troupe of early humans is part of the fun. There are also environmental factors that can really mess up your hard work like storms, and attacks by other humans. It is engaging and is a fun survival game with a bit of civ builder in the mix.

Me parece que es un juego muy antiguo, ya que las mecánicas están del asco. No tienen tutorial o al menos no supe como activarlo. juego que no invita a ser jugado, no entiendes NADA, no hay un árbol de tecnologías para saber por donde vas o hacia donde ir.
It's a really good game for the price. I've gotten lots of enjoyment out of it.

It is OK, I believe there are some basic quality of life changes missing such as controling groups of units and groups of construction, also found the world to be a little to clumsy considering that you need to build walls.
