UFO 50 is a collection of 50 single and multiplayer games from the creators of Spelunky, Downwell, Time Barons, Skorpulac, and Madhouse. Jump in and explore a variety of genres, from platformers and shoot 'em ups to puzzle games and RPGs. If you want to give every game in the bundle a fair chance, two hours isn’t enough. I gave it a try and at least launched every game. About half of them were an immediate “No!”; I played the next 20 for a few minutes, and only about five really caught my attention. And I would have come back to them if I didn't went for the refund. But even those five games were “good” at best. Maybe they become great if you play them long enough, but I think a game should be great from start to finish. So, for me, this collection is way overrated and definitely not the masterpiece that some people try to make it out to be. I wish the developers had focused their efforts on fewer games and made sure they all stood out for the right reason, and not just for a gimmick.

日本語版が出ると聞いてワクワクしながら待っていましたが、中々出ないので購入してざっくりプレイしました。しっかり作り込まれたゲームが50本もあるので、どれかが刺さるという意味では安心できる作品です。

私は義務教育レベルくらいの英語ですが、アクション系は問題ないですし、大体はプレイしていればルールが分かります。ですがRPGとかアドベンチャー系は流石に支障が出るので日本語訳が出るのを待つしかないですね。

ゲーム性は昔ながらのものもありますし、昔のグラフィックで近代ゲームのオマージュみたいなものもあって面白いです。操作性も十字キーと2ボタンでシンプルなのも良いです(1つボタンの組み合わせがややこしいのがありましたけどそれも50本の内の個性の1つということで)。

50本の中に何本か好きなゲームがあればいいという考えの方にはとてもおすすめできますが、50本全部極めようと考える神経質な方はよっぽどゲーム好きでないと苦労すると思います。

日本語版は2025年末の時点で仕上げの時間がもう少し必要とのことなので、今年中には出るのではないでしょうか？日本語版であればさらに楽しめるのは間違いないので期待して待ちます。

Can't believe I still have 48 games to play. Definitely getting my money's worth.
If you grew up play retro games, don't even hesitate getting this game.

Ugh, how do you even review a hodgepodge of games like this? Some are good, some are mediocre, a few are garbage, a few are delightful. Compared to modern games they're relatively short, a nice bunch of experiences that don't demand a huge time investment to enjoy. A number of them are also old-school hard, so you don't need to invest a lot of time in them, unless you want to actually beat them.

And it's got a cute little tamagotchi pig homeowner that you can give gifts to slowly fill up their barren house with. It's pleasant.

I haven't played them all, but here's my partial tier list if it helps:
Worth the price on its own (1): Mini & Max
I liked it (8): Bug Hunter, Magic Garden, Devilition, Warptank, The Big Bell Race, Caramel Caramel, Rock On! Island, Fist Hell,
I didn't hate it (4): Golfaria, Camouflage, Bushido Ball, Party House

For people who appreciate retro, its really good. At a surface level its pretty fun just poking through the collection for the first time and discovering games, but also most of the games are just very solid.

The QoL is pretty low on a lot of these games compared to modern standards, you generally aren't given maps in adventure games, for example. The games don't fully explain themselves, some amount of it is to be worked out through trial and error. I found this charming, others might not.

I recommend it. It is an excellent collection of variety of games with some unique and interesting ideas.
Not all of them were appealing to me, but I found the majority to be interesting at least. Perhaps my only nitpick lies with the arcade games, I wish they had a practice or an infinite life mode, because I have no time to practice these games in a short period.

Unless you are appalled by the classic look of this collection, then you will find at least one game that can interest you.

The main enjoyment of this game for me is just trying all the games for an hour or two, something about discovering these simple old style arcade games (especially the co-op ones) is just so fun. But surprisingly a lot of the game has the legs to be played for many hours. My favorite games in the set are probably party house, a bag building game where you have to assemble the best party and Mortol, a unique 2d platformer with stages to progress through. I don’t really know how to rate or talk about this game because really it's like 50 games but I do know that in totality, it's fun.

Disappointed. Purchased because it reviewed so well, I guess on nostalgia... I grew up through the 80s and 90s playing games of that era. I tried every game here, all 50... and while there's a few that I threw a couple retries at, even those weren't really fun. And most were an immediate 'nope, back to library'. There's nothing here I'd ever want to play again, or feel any desire to complete. Regret the purchase and the time spent trying them all more. Wish I could refund. 16 hours may seem like I enjoyed myself, but it is only about 20 min per title.

Rail Heist is great.

UFO 50 is, well, a collection of 50 games. Everyone has a different playstyle and different preferences. That's just how humans work. But because of the sheer volume and quality of UFO 50, you are almost certainly gonna find at least three games that you absolutely love! $25 is a bit steep, but sometimes this game goes on sale for $19, at which point it 100% becomes worth the money!

I've personally obtained the gift in all but two games in this collection up to #28 Rail Heist - and got gold cartridges or higher for 18 of them. My list of games I absolutely hate and would not recommend is only 9 games long, but before I list those off, I wanna be positive for once;

Bug Hunter, Ninpek, Paint Chase, Mortol, Planet Zoldath, Attactics, Devilition, Avianos, Bushido Ball, Camouflage, Golfaria, The Big Bell Race, Warptank, Onion Delivery, Party House, Divers and Rail Heist.

These 18 games are all absolutely incredible and a joy to play. If I told someone to spend money on UFO 50, [b]these are the games I'd tell them to play first.[/b]

But, in the spirit of my initial review, I do wanna warn you about some stinkers.
Barbuta, Magic Garden, Velgress, Kick Club, Mooncat, Waldorf's Journey, Porgy, Caramel Caramel, and Hot Foot.

For my own set of reasons (most of which can be boiled down to "this game is a slow drag that has little renewable qualities" or "this game controls like warm diarrhea"), the games listed above are the worst in the collection. If you're anything like me, [b]these 9 games are honestly not worth playing at all.[/b] Skip them, they're not worth your time.

Everything here is half baked, it feels like nothing got the attention it needed to be full baked. Nothing controls well. Some games look like they would be fun if you could control them, but you can't, neither on keyboard nor controller. If you grew up in 1987 *specifically* you might get excited every time the game says copyright 1987 the same way a crowd gets excited when the stand-up comedian says the name of the town they're in.

I wouldn't recommend this game for more than $5. Actual retro games from your childhood will be much better than these.

Now that I have played for a *nice* amount of hours, I can confidently say UFO 50 is great.
Before buying it I had some doubts, but now I know that almost all the games in this collection are great and recommended, in fact, throughout all the time I have played this game, I haven't even started over half of the games. The one drawback is that the games all lack tutorials, that is thematic, but is frustrating for the first few minutes of every game. Despite this, I can wholeheartedly recommend this game to almost everyone, especially people like me who like playing many new games.

Got this game as a Chirstmas gift and i've been enjoying my time with it. These collection of games are pretty good, but of course, some of the puzzles/strategy games in this collection don't hit as hard to me compare to the platformers and action games here. Remember, we all love Magic Garden in this house and no one can say anything bad about it. Thanks UFO50 devs for making something pretty cool.

Barbuta is so good like wowee I have spent at least 50 hours alone in that castle! I have never ever died either (many such cases) so I know everything about Barbuta and I can say that my favourite part is the hidden passageway that leads to a room with a massive naked Wario statue and he is strokin' it!! I will let you in on a little secret, if you type mogus sussy into the dev console in the Wario room and then jump 3 times the screen will flash blue then red then green 6 times in that order and then teleport you to the final boss fight but now the final boss is naked Wario and beating him unlocks a secret achievement. Barbuta is great!!! oh also there are like 49 other games I guess they are good too I haven't played them so idk.

3.Avianos (Now this I need as a full game this is peak gameplay)
2.Barbuta (I would totally understand if this is your least favourite game but this game grows on you, you undertand the secrets and learn how to optimise your routes, if this wasn't super clunky and was a full game i'd pay good money for it)
1..Mooncat (mooncat is a way of life, the music, the secrets, the skill ceiling on the movement, the feeling of playing a game for the first time again. This game reminds me of being a child filled with wonder)

Honestly this game could have it's own handheld and still be completely worth it. I was sceptical of these games "not being simple minigames" and still half expected something you'd get on a bootleg 1000 in 1 console you'd find next to Nibe shoes and Apipas sweatpants, but they were not lying when they said these are complete experiences.

That said it's still very much retro with both good and bad. As someone born after the turn of the millennium I have no nostalgia for games from the era this tries to replicate, but from my limited experience this is a pretty faithful imitation. That does however mean some games are pretty ruthless and unforgiving, as well as it taking a bit to even comprehend what you're supposed to do. Once you do however you'll find out just how much each game has to offer.

Of course not all games will be everyone's cup of tea, especially with how many genres they cover, but even games I personally wasn't much interested in managed to hook me in more than I thought, even if I'm still bad at them.

For me the biggest appeal is the simple exploration. Due to my ADHD I didn't stick with many games for long, but going thru them one by one curious what each has to offer. Even after going all 50 of them and spent over 30 hours playing I still feel like for most of them I only scratched the surface and the only thing stopping me from going deeper is my decision paralysis.

My one issue is that it can feel like although no game lacks in depth, some can lack a bit in content. I think this is just the side effects of the games being so fun I want more of them, but several times I've felt like the game has many mechanics while being too short to explore all of them properly.

The best example of this is my favorite game Avianos. A 1v1 conquest strategy game with so many details, yet the maps you experience the details on tend to feel a bit restrictive and the matches end quite fast most of the time. Once again this is just me loving the game so I want more of it. But I can imagine this being scaled up to much larger maps with even more players with very little change to the mechanics.

Overall I think this is an amazing experience for everyone. A bit hard to put into words with how varied each game is, but so worth the money with the amount of content. I would however recommend giving even more money to the devs and get UFO Companion guide book as it makes many of the games much easier to get into.

Fun to try out the 50 different games, but really only a handful of the experiences feel like they're worth having. Cool concept. I just wish the games had more to them - even a 20 game collection like this with a bit more care taken for each of the games would have been incredible. For every retro-inspired innovation in this 50-pack, there's a game that would have been ill-received even if it came out in the period it was supposedly made. I can't say it's worth it to sift through the middling filler to find the interesting stuff, but if you're willing to explore and have a bunch of extra free time then maybe this pack of 50 games is for you.

Imagine there was something like a 'Indie Game Design School" and some other thing like a tuition that makes you consistently design great games.

Then, this game, UFO50, would surely be a Retro Indie design mastercourse. How to design a brilliant indie game, in 50 classes.

How to be faithful to dead, rigid styles (Dungeon Crawlers? Arcade platformers? Beat'em ups? Overworld Explore'n grind Rpgs? Drive'n shoot arcades?), and, at the same time, add one, two or three twists that makes them play fresh again?

How to take something heavy and clunky, and give it lightness and agility, until the remaining stiffness is a charm, instead of a burden?

How to rejuvenate something from an old age that, despite turning out dated, exhudes magic? And to not lose the magic while very subtly injecting 30+ years of modernity?

How to use a hilariously limited colour palette together with a rudimentary sound engine, and polish them creatively to create character, charm, personality, atmosphere, remarkable graphics, and an absolutely brilliant soundtrack?

How to approach difficulty, so that playing feels challenging and engaging without feeling unforgiving?

How to mix tradition and experimentalism, and hit the mark? How to hit your nostalgia buttons - if you are 30+?

How to reach for boldness and ambition, while keeping everything light-hearted, funny, simple and unpretentious?

How to be persistent, fine-tune, polish, polish some more, and then fine-tune a little more?

Mind you, not all 50 games hit these high marks so flawlessly. Some games are too clunky. Some are just simple rehashes of old gaming styles. Some are creative, but the experiments miss the mark. Some are lovely, but short 15 minutes ditties. Some are unfairly difficult. But boy, are the other 35+ games good.

As far as I know, the development of this UFO50 took a small team of developers 8 years. The polish, care and intention all show throughout. If you heard the expression 'labor of love", this shouldapplies here.

So, to summarize - yeah, I'm a big fan of these games! Did I mention that you can play a lot of them with your friends in hotseat mode?

A fantastic collection of retro games! There's an impressive level of polish across the board, I was amazed by how complete each game feels. There's a lot of variety in the genres represented; I particularly enjoyed seeing games that implement a more modern genre in a retro setting.

I completed 40 games and earned 30 cherries. I made a personal ranking of all of the games; my top tier of games has Warptank, Grimstone, Kick Club, Seaside Drive, Pingolf, and Mortol 2. Some of my friends have wildly different rankings; I'm sure you'll find something you'll love in the collection!

you GOTTA buy this ♥♥♥♥, man, it's INSANE.

Given that there are 50 games you would assume "oh, it's like 50 MINI games" - no. Some of them are a bit small but even if you were to disqualify half of them (which is a lot more than the number of games I would describe in this collection as "small"), you're still left with 25 fully realized video games of a huge variety of genres with unique things about them.

Even if there are like three, maybe four games in this that you enjoy and play to a satisfying level of completion, I think you could more than justify the price tag of this. And then there are forty-something more games just bundled with it.

I make no exaggeration when I say that I think I'd value this at like three or four times the amount it is priced at by default on this platform- which I am aware would not mesh very well with steam's ecosystem at all, and I don't think I would've justified it to myself either, but in hindsight I think that's probably what it's worth, for the time they put in.
