Very beautiful game. I recommend playing it on harder setting available when starting to enjoy it more. Still as many comments say, it has some issues, like it gets a bit repetitive due to lack of enemy variety and combat although deep on paper lacks some clarity and feels a bit shallow, so I ended up doing the same combos over and over. But overall is pretty fun, I really recommend it.

Great visuals and tone. trash combat, and for an action game, that is very damning. most every enemy gets taken down with the light light heavy attack followed by a finisher that restores a third of your health. checkpoint shrines are frequent and restore full health, attack combos outside of the one mentioned are barely worth using, enemies are very samey, played this on hard, still didn't feel challenged other than the bs cheap shots that take almost all of your health in one hit while being barely different than regular attacks. for gameplay's sake, hard pass, but the style is so cool, it makes it somewhat tolerable just for the art.

i'll give it a positive just for that, but the combat leaves much to be desired.

Сама задумка интересная, но ее реализация сущий кошмар. Отвратительный геймплей , отвратительное 2.5D исполнение. Цветовая гамма с одной стороны очень стильная, но если в ваши окна будет светить солнце, вы в этой игре ничего не увидите. Покупал за 170р, думаю эта игра и не стоит потраченных денег. Лучше купить что-то другое!

I was very excited to play this game on my legion go s (steam os version) and the game performed super well so know that this review is in no way due to the performance of the game. On the go, it played beautifully, however this game has some issues ...

One of the issues in which I kept encountering was the delayed, and sometimes non existent unlocking of achievements. This game still has half of the ones I should have received completing it locked, which makes no sense because how can you receive an achievement for completing chapater 4, but not chapter 3? Anyway, the game also does not keep some saves, and on one occasion told me that mine was corrupted. It's also infuriatingly difficult in it's combo system, however I did complete the game and it isn't impossible so.

With a rather lackluster story that had me really not caring what happened to anyone at all (but still going through the motions to see this through), I just expected more here. That's all I can say.

Hay juegos que uno empieza sin expectativas… y de repente te golpean. Este fue uno de esos casos. No esperaba mucho, pero terminó impresionándome muchísimo.

Trek to Yomi es un videojuego en 2.5D, completamente en blanco y negro, que bebe directamente de la estética de las viejas películas de Akira Kurosawa. No es solo una decisión visual: es una declaración de intenciones. Todo en este juego se alimenta del cine clásico japonés.

La historia gira en torno a la venganza, pero no se queda ahí. También plantea preguntas incómodas, muy personales: ¿hasta dónde seríamos capaces de llegar en situaciones realmente desesperadas? Todo esto acompañado por un giro argumental muy bien ejecutado que, en mi caso, me mantuvo pegado a la silla hasta el final.

Hay un fuerte componente cultural. A través de los ítems coleccionables (sí, toca leer), el juego profundiza en tradiciones, prácticas religiosas y elementos espirituales que suman mucho a la inmersión.

En cuanto al combate, es simple en apariencia, pero tiene más dificultad del que parece. No dejes que las primeras impresiones te engañen: hay un nivel de dificultad que exige atención y precisión.

Es un juego breve, sí, pero de esos que dejan marca. Una historia que pega fuerte y una estética que te atrapa desde el primer momento.

La venganza tiene un precio… y este juego se asegura de que pagues hasta el último centavo.

玩完前四章本来能给9分，但是到后面三章太同质化。堆怪、连战，关键是怪还是那几种，种类非常少，打到最后都已经背下每种小怪出招模式了，打最终boss也是初见一命过。战斗系统简而言之就是抵挡反击和资源少得可怜的远程武器，主角动作比小怪慢，前后摇比小怪大，想无伤必须背板。
地图设计其实很有意思，喜欢这种分岔路的设计，缺点在于某些地方是单向路，读档还回不去，第一周目很难毯式搜刮全收集。收集品形象和文本都很深刻，碎片式地刻画主题。
打完之后我点跳过来着，结果点到新游戏也没有二次确认，直接把上个武士道存档覆盖了，本来想打个剑圣模式全成就的，这下只好被迫弃游。
剧情：很经典的武士道文学，主要是讲爱、忠、义，同时带点日本物哀的基调，美术画面和音乐整体其实很好地完成渲染情绪地作用，就是后期太重复，听到npc的哀嚎只会觉得用力过猛和无聊。
鉴定为良作，应该有多结局，值得一玩。

I like the art style, atmosphere and the sound is pretty nice the but controls are clunky feeling a lot and the combat is very same-y and extremely repetitive. I got about 3/4 of the way through but then after I came to basically the same scene and fight for the 3rd time in a row I just exited out and uninstalled as I just don't want to bother finishing it.

Trek to Yomi is a 2.5D, short (~3h long) side-scroller set during the Edo period of feudal Japan about a samurai in and his sense of duty. It is a game with incredible art direction, and rather awful gameplay.

There’s a significant focus on cinematic and “realistic” aspect of sword combat where a single strike is enough to defeat someone, unfortunately it hasn’t translated well into a fun gameplay. The game’s controls often feel clunky and unresponsive while the whole combo system is very shallow to the point where you can beat the entire game by taking a step back and using the same “light+light+heavy” combo.

Despite its short length, by the time I’ve reached the credits I had lingering sense the sense of boredom and frustration from playing it. Later chapters increase difficulty by adding more enemies on the screen and giving them ranged weapons, which leads to few moments where you’re being attacked from 3 sides simultaneously and have to cheese the AI to make the fight manageable.

I don’t really want to give it a negative review but if gameplay is the weakest aspect of a video game, then perhaps it should have been something else.

I tried this but holy ♥♥♥♥—I finished Chapter 6 but since Chapter 4 every time the "boss" shows up i think "please just let this game end"

The story started out cool, i was very interested on where it was going. I tought it would be very straightforward, with me getting revenge or something and I was ok with that
Then, between Chapter 3 and 4, the story went on a direction i didn't expect

I would probably enjoy it if the gameplay itself wasn't so ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ annoying
There is no satisfaction in any of the attacks. Most of the combos—even the "simple" ones where i just wanna roll forward—are incredibly unreliable. The parry sucks, the amount of "fights" just drags as the game goes on

Right now i just want to finish the story to see the end because i spent some money on this ♥♥♥♥

I can't even believe there are "choices" at some point, because there's no way in hell anyone would replay this game multiple times to see all the possible outcomes (if they make any difference)

And the fact that a game that is pbbly only 5h to beat, only has 18% of players who have finished the Chapter 6, WHICH APPARENTLY ISN'T THE LAST ONE, just shows how problematic this game is at keeping players enganged

If you really wanna play this, put the difficulty on easy to ignore most combat and see if the story clicks with you.

graficznie i klimatycznie ta gra jest cudowna ale walka a raczej przeciwnicy których napotykamy są czasami tak absurdalnie potężni że aż irytuje i męczy twórcy w jednej lokacji potrafią napakować po 10 przeciwników którzy nawet za plecami potrafią nas atakować, system parowania nie zawsze działa, nawet jeśli idealnie sparujemy gra potrafi tego nie zaliczyć pomimo widocznej animacji. Niewiele 8% osiągnięć za ukończenie gry, wiele wskazuje że większość graczy porzuciła dalsze granie xD i się nie dziwie bo sam momentami miałem ochotę zakończyć swoją przygodę z tą grą. Podsumowując jest to co najwyżej średnia gra ze średnią walką, dobrym klimatem i poprawną fabułą szczerze nic rewelacyjnego.

I played that on Asus Rog Ally with 7" display. The stars indicating enemy´s attack is absolutely not visible. There should be some better indicator above the enemies, such as uses Shadow of Mordor for example. It is very difficut to notice and you get your skill through many many repeatings by going through the game sections instead of getting better with your skills.

Enemy shooters are very annoying, they are not quickly reachable and you repeat many parts waiting for suitable version of enemy shooting attack. This option of difficulity is not made well.

Gameplay is about fighting all the time, as it is expected to be. You use combos and 3 types of shooting versions. This part is good.

Story is the worst part. You ward-off bandits in your village twice and then story switches to some crashed-corupted dream-world where you fight against ghosts, ghuls and zombies and sometimes the same bosses (ghost version). You still only ask what this dream is and all this main part of the game is annoying. Final part is again in your village and you ward-off the bandits again. Final boss is tough to beat.

I expected nothing special - fighting and combos. But the story and fighting against same enemies in ghost or zombi version is realy boring. You still have to mainly defend and wait for your attack. if you make a combo and enemy is not stuned (his attack is defended) the enemy always interrupt your combo and mostly instantly kill you. It is not about your fast reactions and your making combos fast. It is mainly about defend and attack in the right time. More comlicated combos have to be made in proper button and also time order. You cannot simply push 3x X and 1x Y. You have to continuously press one-by-one x 3 times and quickly Y. If you press 3times X fast, your character will not make whole combo and you will suffer enemy attack.

I played on hard difficulity.

This game should be improved mainly by enemy attack indicator. Shooters attacks are annoying and story is one of the worst ever. Consider purchasing this game!

Trek to Yomi é menos um jogo de ação convencional e mais um ritual interativo sobre honra, perda e destino. Inspirado pelo cinema clássico de samurai, ele constrói uma experiência que privilegia atmosfera, contemplação e peso emocional acima da simples eficiência do combate.

O design visual é sua assinatura mais marcante. A escolha pelo preto e branco não é mero estilo, mas linguagem. Cada enquadramento parece cuidadosamente composto como cena de filme, com luz, sombra e profundidade guiando o olhar do jogador. A jornada de Hiroki se desenrola como uma série de pinturas em movimento, onde cada vila devastada, cada templo silencioso e cada campo abandonado carrega o peso de vidas interrompidas.

O combate é deliberado e contido. Espadas se chocam em duelos que exigem precisão e leitura do adversário, punindo impulsividade. Não há espetáculo exagerado; há tensão, silêncio e o peso de cada golpe. A luta é apresentada não como triunfo, mas como consequência inevitável de escolhas e dever.

Más que un juego de samurais parece una película de Kurosawa, con el dramatismo e incluso el tono y aspecto visual de cualquiera de sus películas clásicas (blanco y negro, luchas coreografiadas, cámaras fijas y travellings guionizados...). Lo mejor del juego es el aspecto narrativo y dramático, y su desarrollo casi cinematográfico en lo visual. Sin embargo en cuanto a la jugabilidad es un título muy limitado, siendo un hack & slash en 2 dimensiones con una acción de lucha repetitiva y que acaba siendo bastante pesada. Es un juego perfecto para "ver" (como juega otro) pero no para "jugar" (por sus mecánicas básicas y repetitivas), que tiene una rejugabilidad limitada, una vez acabado el juego una primera vez. El juego tiene 3 finales distintos en función de nuestro "camino" elegido (que parece más amplio de lo es, ya que solo importa la última elección de diálogo, y todas las demás opciones escogidas anteriormente llevan a la misma opción de selección final).

El aspecto visual y narrativo es notable, y en una primera partida la experiencia es muy gratificante, teniendo también una banda sonora y un aspecto sonoro impecables. Es un título recomendable de una duración moderada, pero con una rejugabilidad muy escasa, debido a lo lineal y fijo de la historia, y a lo repetitivo del combate.

Fun little game that is over real fast, so probably pick this up on a sale, because 20 euro for 3,5 hour game is a little much. The game uses a lot of camera angle changes to be more epic, environments are pretty nice and the art style of black and white is quite unique. Prepare for a lot of Japanese shouting and emotions.

Buen juego, menos mal que es corto porque es lo mismo todo el tiempo, los enemigos, el combate etc. Realmente te sientes como en una película de samuráis vieja, incluso todo está en blanco y negro, en general está bien todo, lo malo es que las peleas son algo lentas y los controles no siempre responden como deben, y lo que más me molesta es lo de la resistencia como en los juegos Souls, así que no puedes dar muchos golpes o movimientos seguidos porque se cansa. En este juego te dan 3 opciones para hacer tu historia, ya será de tu elección cual prefieres, eso ocurre 3 veces durante el juego que te dan a elegir. El juego tiene 7 niveles.

As a Kurosawa movie fan, Trek To Yomi really hit the spot. The B&W art, with its lovely period architecture is drop dead gorgeous throughout the game, certainly increasing my immersion and connection to the gameworld and the plot -- which is a solid samurai movie plot, with good voice-acting, that doesn't drag on too long: I finished a Normal/Bushido playthrough in 9hours, and now with what I've learned about the combat system could certainly finish in less. The combat system does take time to become accustomed to, but once your muscle memory finds the parry timing, you've become familiar with the behavior of the various enemy types, and learned a few of the many attack combos (parry+heavy+heavy or a flurry of light attacks usually suffices), and figured out that the windup moves of certain bosses can simply be ran by or rolled through leading to, e.g., an easy backstab, then the combat becomes engaging and fun: I was never bored or felt the combat was repetitive for a single moment in this game. I highly recommend Trek To Yomi !!

There are a few things to like and a lot to dislike about this game.

The environments, music and just the look of Trek to Yomi are very well thought out, but pretty much everything else is frustrating.

The controls are clunky and for all the options and combos you get there are really only two that are worth while. you can basically go though the game using only the light light heavy and the backwards light heavy combo for one specific opponent.

Also the game lets you get used to the combat system, blocking and parrying then most of the bosses have unblockable attacks. Some opponents let you roll through them and some do not and you can only find out through trial and error; restart and repeat. In addition the armored spearmen near the end of the game are really frustrating to fight as they also negate most of your move set, especially when you fight time with some minions back to back without any checkpoints.

I also found it difficult to transition between 2d and 2.5d environments. The game looks great but it was hard to tell when and where you can move, and when screen transitions were allowed.

I only recommend this game if you are enamored with the visuals and have some interest in Japanese folklore AND play it on easy to experience it without too much frustration.

Классная и очень стильная игра ,сделана под стиль старых японских фильмов про самураев.И да,будем честны: сделана на хайпе когда вышла "Хост оф Тсушима",которая навела шуму в свое время.
По гейплею, ничего выдающегося в принципе ,но играть интересно. Игра очень короткая(4 часа где-то ),но есть несколько развилок по ходу сюжета,что дает стимул перепройти ее еще как минимум раз.
Однозначно рекомендую к прохождению.

Beautiful visuals, audio and atmosphere. The old school samurai and western move vibes are awesome and very original in a videogame.
The story is fine but predictable. I loved the Japanese folklore told via the collectables.
Combat gameplay gets very repetitive from about halfway through. Movement controls are very clunky and buggy.

Zaledwie po 70 minutach grania stwierdziłem że granie w tę grę nie ma sensu. Naprawdę dużo jest w tej grze do poprawy i zdaje się że niestety twórcy nie podołali
ale zacznijmy od plusów
+ Stylizowana czarno-białą grafika (na początku przynajmniej wygląda fajnie bo pewnie pod koniec ten styl graficzny mocno nudzi )
+ wszystko działa , nie ma problemów optymalizacyjnych oraz problemów z glitchami
+ rozbudowane i ładnie zbudowane lokacje
- walka która jest absolutnie niesatysfakcjonująca, postać porusza się ociężale a ataki i bloki wykonywane są z opóźnieniem, walka sprowadza się do klikania cały czas blok i czekania aż będzie można wyprowadzić atak, przeciwnicy wykonują bardzo mało ruchów podczas owej walki
- cena bez promocji 92 zł jest za duża jak na tak krótką i niedopracowaną grę
- animacje postaci wyglądają po prostu źle i psują wrażenie dobrej grafiki
Chciałbym zaznaczyć że możliwe iż w późniejszym etapie fabuły jest lepiej ale już przez te 70 minut ( głównie w 2 rozdziale ) zmuszałem się do grania i w końcu nie wytrzymałem . Również nie chciałem oceniać fabuły ponieważ nie poznałem jej większej części . Możliwe że jest taka super że wynagradza wszystkie bolączki ale podziękuję.
Mimo to, ta gra to nie jest totalny bubel zrobiony na szybko i widać że ktoś się przy niej napracował . Jeśli ktoś ma wielką odporność na słabą walkę i uwielbia podobne klimaty to gra mu się spodoba .

Trek to Yomi isn’t purely a 2.5D Samurai hack-and-slash, it’s more like a cinematic work of art, where it heavily gets the influence from movies such as “Sanjuro” and “Throne of Blood’ which utilizes Kurosawa Style. As you play through the game, you can visually see the core elements from Kurosawa being used, including a distinct black-and-white palette throughout the game, along with dramatic cinematography which gives amazing camera shots. Furthermore, as you play through the story, you will intervene with core elements including moral conflict, honor, and tragedy.

Along with the combat system, in my opinion it was unresponsive but eventually got used to it, where it felt like it didn't matter. As you progress the first couple of chapters you will most likely learn the most effective combo of moves that will be effective until the end of the game. As you progress towards the halfway point of the game you'll have to make a choice between the path of love, duty, or fury. I really enjoyed this aspect as it feels like a telltale game and makes every decision you make meaningful from start to end, giving you a unique ending every playthrough.

- Seemed like there were many combos that you could never actually use
- Incredibly Repetitive
- Bosses are easier than the hordes
- No way to practice new combos
- Found one Combo + Finisher that worked better than just about anything

One of the prettiest games I've ever played. But that's where the compliments end. The fighting system was just not that good. I also played 9 Monkeys of Shaolin, which was a buggy mess, but the combos were so much better.

Dat erste Kapitel, dat war richtig gut. Hab dat wegen der Story gespielt und dem ganzen Erlebnis, dat hat mir echt Spaß gemacht.

Aber dann? Dann ging dat los. Grunts wegkloppen, durch Skelette ballern, zurück, und wieder von vorn. Dat war so spannend wie Fischbrötchen ohne Fisch, sach ich dir.

Und dann der Endboss! Vier Phasen hat der Klappskalli. Vier! ich bin doch nich doof. Wenn ich mir so'n Souls-like Ding geben will, wo ich mir die Finger wund hacke, dann spiel ich auch wat, wat dat richtig kann. Nee, nee. ich spiel dat hier für die Inszenierung und die Story, nich für sowat.

"Trek to Yomi" ist eine spielbare Hommage an Akira Kurosawa. Und das nicht nur wegen der Geschichte rund um Samurai Hiroki, welche typischerweise von Ehre, Pflichtbewusstsein und natürlich auch Rache handelt, sondern auch weil jede Szene wie ein Frame von Yojimbo, Zatoichi, Lone Wolf & Cub und Co. aussieht:
Die Kameraposition, die Hintergründe, welche dank verschiedener Effekte aussehen, als würde ein Matte Painting verwendet werden und dann natürlich die Szenen selbst. Wir duellieren uns vor brennenden Städten, in malerischen Reisfeldern, auf Baumstämmen über Wasserfällen und als Schatten hinter Byobus. Das alles in Schwarz/Weiß und mit einem Film- Grain-Effekt.
Dazu kommt ein grandioses Sounddesign, das Knacken von brennendem Holz, gepaart mit kläglichen Hilferufen von Verwundeten. Die Schlachtfelder haben eine packende Atmosphäre. Die japanische Synchronisation tut ihr Übriges dazu.

Kommen wir zum Gameplay: Der Schwertkampf ist mit zwei Angriffen und einem Block recht simpel gestaltet. Wir gehen langsam vor, blocken Angriffe und warten auf den perfekten Moment, um unseren Gegenschlag auszuführen. Der langsame und paradelastige Kampf passt perfekt ins Spiel. Leider werden die Kämpfe mit steigender Gegnerzahl teilweise sehr frustrierend und gepaart mit den stellenweise schlecht platzierten Speicherpunkten entsteht so ein echter Stimmungskiller bei einem sonst tollen Projekt.

Trotzdem kann ich das Spiel aufgrund seiner tollen Atmosphäre empfehlen. Gerade Fans von Samurai-Filmen und dem früheren japanischen Kino werden voll auf ihre Kosten kommen. Bei zu viel Frust im Kampf geht durch den einfachen Schwierigkeitsgrad zwar etwas an Taktik verloren, dafür kann man sich dann voll auf das Drumherum konzentrieren.

Świetna gra i jedyna w swoim rodzaju. Grałem kiedyś na konsoli i postanowiłem ją kupić jeszcze raz na pc. Rozpocznę przygodę na nowo, bo jest to wyjątkowy projekt z ciekawym klimatem oraz dobrą mechaniką. Na wysokim poziomie trudności wymaga większej uważności i cierpliwości. Uwielbiam!

A very interesting and atmospheric game set in the era of Japanese samurai. The sword combat is exceptionally well crafted, offering plenty of diverse fighting techniques. The black-and-white visuals give the game a unique atmosphere, although I personally would have preferred it in full color. Still, it’s definitely worth giving this game a try!
