I got this game in 2016, and I finally played it at 1:45 AM on 1/1/2026. Still don't know what I just played, but it was interesting nonetheless.
I feel like unfortunately that this is too easy and short of a game to be really worthwhile. The artstyle and story is cute, however the short duration of the game sort of cheapens the story. I feel like some negative consequences to clicking something wrong would help add some more depth to this. The fact you can just click wherever until you find the right move makes it far too easy. Has a lot of potential though.

The Old Tree — ничего не понятно, но очень интересно. Всё происходящее на экране можно описать как сон с температурой под 40°C. Мы играем за какую-то хинкалину с четырьмя щупальцами. Весь геймплей строится на простом "тыкнул сюда, тыкнул туда" — и через 10 минут игра пройдена. Визуал и музыка создают угнетающую атмосферу, что добавляет особого шарма. В целом, это какая-то психоделика: я так и не понял, что хотел донести автор, но "потыкать" было довольно занятно.

Wonderful game. Initially had some trouble figuring out the puzzles but they're definitely easy. At first I thought the character was a walking green apple, but no it was actually a green alien! Felt like an episode of Love Death and Robots. It's brief length (15 min) really did make this feel like an episode from an awesome animated show.
Gloomy atmosphere, great animations - a lot to love here. Minor complaints would be some sections were a little too dark to see what you were supposed to be interacting with. Your pointer changing to show you what on screen you can actually interact with would've been nice. No worries -there's a great guide in the forums an awesome Steam member made, so this wasn't an issue in the few instances where I got stuck.
This is a free game that really everybody should play. I wish the developer had made a full game with this character in the world he is inhabiting. That said, the ending was actually beautiful and felt totally right. It reaches a conclusion and you're left feeling good.
Take 15 minutes out of your day to chill with this game if you haven't already.

TOO dark graphics. Cant see many objects on my not great, but not that bad screen which ive set to prefered brightness. It shouldnt be nesesary to change settings just to see whats on the screen.

(It seems to be a test-run for the developer's main game... Tales of Cosmos.) The Old Tree is nothing special, and you'll get the idea from the trailer. Borderline whether I'd recommend it or not, but I'll give it the benefit of the doubt.

The Old Tree is a very short point & click that takes place in a very strange drab world where we follow along and help an equally strange squid like alien to get to the top of a tree.
Although very short the puzzles of the game at some points can get difficult to figure out at times, it helps to explore a little whenever you are stuck to see just what things you are able to interact with. It doesn't help that the world and some areas are quite dark making it difficult to see things.
It is an interesting game with no dialogue but simple story telling and gameplay within a very unique world that's unfortunately just too short. I would love to have seen and experience far more of the unique and strange world this squid alien inhabits and why it needs to do what it does.

Творческий подход и незаурядные идеи воплощались наяву с возможностью взаимодействия. И все это делалось на чистом энтузиазме! Вот где были таланты... и арт.

a very short game but with a very satisfying environment and gameplay where you have to help the protagonist climb the tree until he reaches the top. there's nothing much to do but you can relax for a while with a good soundtrack. I recommend!

Along your journey you will encounter various obstacles in your path, which are resolved by solving puzzles.
Having first played the game in 2016, I thought I would revisit it for a second chance. Unfortunately, 7 years later and the experience still feels mediocre & frustrating – despite my hoping and wishing that I would love it.
The puzzles themselves are fairly simple; however, the difficulty arises with often being unable to see the environment due to it being overly dark and the game having no brightness or gamma settings. The inability to see well then requires players to do one of three things:
1. Get lucky in clicking the right spot (by chance).
2. Click around the screen maniacally in hopes that you click the correct spot.
3. Refer to a game guide. (I recommend [url=https://steamcommunity.com/sharedfiles/filedetails/?id=411322232]this one[/url].)
Unfortunately, the brightness issues squandered any joy that could be derived from completing the puzzles as they quickly became tedious instead.
Aside from the brightness issues, [i]The Old Tree[/i] is further plagued by lacking any sort of purpose. You witness no character development; nor do you have the opportunity to build any sort of meaningful relationship with the protagonist. Thus, the ending to this linear adventure (which seems like it should be impactful) feels utterly lackluster.
The redeeming qualities of [i]The Old Tree[/i] are certainly the graphics/aesthetic and the atmospheric sound score – as well as being free-to-play, of course.
