1925年のとある屋敷を舞台に、ベネディクトが自身に取り憑いた謎の存在と共に、死んだ父親の記憶へと飛び込んでいく。現実とも幻ともつかない不可解な謎を追う、ストーリー重視のラブクラフト風メトロイドヴァニア。美しく幻想的でありながら、どこか禍々しさが漂うビジュアルが印象的で、他のゲームでは替えがきかない独特な空気感は本作ならではの大きな魅力となっている。

ゲームプレイは、敵との戦闘だけでなく、探偵のような調査や推察、そしてパズルが中心。特に調査とパズルに重心が置かれており、謎を解くたびに絶望的な事実が少しずつ明らかになっていく様子はまさにラブクラフトらしさがよく表現されている。戦闘が控えめなせいか展開もスムーズ。マップも現実の地形に忠実で構造を把握しやすく、未探索や通行不能な場所には自動でアイコンが出るため、新しいスキルを得た後に「次はどこへ行けばいいのか」と迷うストレスが少ないのも嬉しい。

一方で、アクション面は少し地味な印象か。基本はダッシュ回避よりもパリィ軸の立ち回りで、ナイフと悪魔による近接攻撃がメインとなるが、敵の種類が少ないためか、どうしても戦い方が単調になりがち。ただ、悪魔のスキル解放や、パッシブ効果を与えるタトゥー、武器改造といったカスタマイズ要素は充実しており、キャラクターをじわじわ成長させていく楽しさはしっかり用意されている。

そして、気になる日本語の対応状況についてだが、本作は残念ながら公式には日本語非対応。Unity製なのでXUnity.AutoTranslatorが使えるが、翻訳されるのは全体の6割ほど。ストーリーの大筋は追えるものの、スキルのチュートリアルやミッション内容が翻訳されないこともあるため、そこをどう捉えるかでハードルが変わってきそう。

クリアまで12時間ほど。1時間以上連続でプレイすると画面がカクつく挙動はあるものの、この独特な雰囲気だけでも触れる価値は十分にある。それだけに、日本語非対応という点だけが本当に惜しまれる良作。

Симпатичная метроидвания с упором на разнообразные головоломки. За ручку не ведет, но и бэктрекингом не мучает. Приятная атмосфера и визуал, прикольный компаньон в духе Венома. Слабое место игры - боевка, но она становится сильно лучше с прокачкой и не успевает сильно надоесть.

In some cases, it's better to release a piece of art into the world in an unfinished or rough state, than to never release it at all.

Knowing how difficult it is to make a videogame, I'm very grateful The Last Case of Benedict Fox even exists.

Despite feeling flawed, unfinished and unpolished, I absolutely loved this game.
Thank you to the developers for creating such a wonderful work of art.

I don't think I can recommend it to everyone, especially if you're an impatient or casual gamer, but if you're looking for an intriguing, beautiful and unique metroidvania, with clever puzzles, style and heart, then don't turn your back on Benedict Fox.

I don't recall ever having to pull my notebook out and make notes while playing a game but boy I enjoyed myself :) Last case of Benedict Fox is a decent Metroidvania with very intelligent puzzles that can take you some time to figure out, but the progression feels good in general and the Art style is really top notch. The only thing that feels mid is combat but in general its very easy. I recommend this one :)

This is a great game. It takes big swings and while some of it falls flat it does things i've never seen in a metroidvania. If you don't like detective games and trying to figure out piecing clues together it's probably not for you though. They have a setting where you can have it autosolve but i don't know the rest of the metroidvania holds up enough to make it worth it for people. I loved it though and truly hope the team does another game that is as inventative as this.

Bueno, recuerdo el trailer cuando lo vi y me quedé alucinado con la estética y todo lo que ofrecía, la verdad es que no esta mal, pero tampoco es nada del otro mundo, una historia que tampoco es que mate mucho y el ritmo es algo lento aun siendo un juego MUY corto que me ha durado poco mas de 5 horas... le doy un 6/10, para pasar una tarde sin mas.

[h1]A Case of Style Over Substance [/h1]

While the premise is interesting and the art style is quite nice, Benedict Fox falls short of the mark. Most of the areas blend together being mostly purple/blue/gray and having the same enemies/"spooky tree" texture in the background.

The combat was pretty frustrating: enemies have a telegraph that they are doing an attack that you can parry but depending on how quick you press the block button, the enemy decides to actually execute their attack whenever they want. Boss attacks are telegraphed pretty poorly resulting in a very annoying combat experience. Additionally, I'm not sure if it was the timing on the animation or just the feel of the combat itself but the feeling of attacking is very underwhelming. It gets marginally better after obtaining some upgrades but only barely so.

The voice acting is pretty piss-poor. Some of the characters sound like they were rushing their lines to fit the animation so expect a lot of rushed/stilted dialogue.

Finally, the performance of the game is pretty terrible. I'm not sure if it's all the lighting effects or if the game is just poorly optimized but after 2 hours of playing, I was getting frame drops from 120+ fps down to the 30 fps range and after 4 hours, it was going under half of that.

I plan to finish it because I appear to be about halfway through the game but I'm not very optimistic that things will drastically improve..

Honestly, it's an interesting game but unless you've already played most of the better metroidvanias out there or you just really like the "lovecraftian" [i](i use that extremely loosely)[/i] flavor, [b]I would pass or buy under $5.[/b]

This was a lot of fun, and essentially a metroidvania that includes story and physical puzzles. For the most part I got through the puzzles myself, with about 3 cases where I had to look something up. But it really was an incredibly good time, and I liked the story and different characters.

My playtime doesn't really reflect the actual play time, it's more like the 12 - 20 hours. I ended up leaving the game open on pause a bit while waiting to for a save point.

- És technikailag is egy teszteletlen, csapnivaló trágya munka.
Kezdte azzal, hogy kinn hagyta a tálcát(nem ez a gond). Ahogy állítgattam, kénytelen voltam gamepad helyett egeret hasznáni mert össze vissza ugrált a menűben. Elsőre gamepaddel akartam átrakni ablakba, majd vissza hátha attól megjavul (nem javult meg) de erre lejjeb ugrott és átrakta felbontást, (ezzel szórakoztam (és ez szórakoztatóbb mint a játek baze) vagy 2-3 percet), folyamatosan le fel ugrált az opciók közt mindet állítgattam, csak ezt nem amit kéne, majd végül fogtam egy egeret és azzal tudtam, megoldani. Már itt sejtettem ha valaminek ilyen igénytelen tróger menüje van, ott a játék is hulladék lesz.
És bejött. A játék bebasz a mélyvízbe, nem vezeti fel sehogy magát. Kb 30 perc dögunalmas rohangálás után már valami csápos sz@rral kellet volna bossfightot tolni.
A játékmenetnél és a menünél csak a kontrol rosszabb.
Billenytüzettel annyi gombot kell használj, ami kis túlzással éppen elfér a keyboardon.
A gamepad irányítás is teljesen rossz, amit átvariálhasz úgyan, de mint minden unity-s fostalicska itt is csak a gyári beéllítasokkal működnek a triggerek. (nem értem, a ótvaros f@szért van az sok retardált léhűtő qa-s minden cégnél).
Ha mást raksz rájuk, mondjuk a célzás balra, lövést-támadást jobbra, már nem fog működni.
Ez a valami a hangokat és a grafikát kivéve egy ótvar alja munka. 8 Gb színtiszta trágya.
Aki ilyet kiad a kezéből az takarodjon el hamburgert csinálni valami gyorsétterembe, mondjuk akik ilyen lusta hüIyék azok még a végén megmérgeznének valakit, de sz@rás után tuti nem mosnának kezet, szóval inkább utcát seperni, az a testhez álló feladat nekik.

Not great. I like the premise and the art style, but that's about it. The combat is pretty annoying. Feels like more of a frustrating way to reset progress than an enjoyable part of the whole. Fortunately, you can enable invincibility and one hit kills.

Then the puzzles are a bit meh. A lot of basic math with an added layer of decyphering numbers through a reference list. Gets boring quick, but worse than that - you don't really know if you have everything you need to actually solve the puzzle. Worse, you can literally forget a key item you need for multiple puzzles in one of them, with no indication of what you did wrong or where. Understandably, there's a way to enable insta-solving of puzzles, which also tells you when you don't have all the pieces.

Exploration is goofy. You can teleport all over the place at any time, and the process still somehow feels tedious and over-reliant on backtracking. A lot of time goes towards working out where to even go next. Often you get somewhere where you're not even sure if you broke something. Did I just push an elevator up a chute by bumping my head into it? I guess I did.

And then the story is just... Ok? I guess. Things happened, and I'm not sure if I goet any investment in them.

Bugged sequence on PC for rescuing the lady from the mirrors (would need a 1000 left-click per second emulator to proceed with the game). Me and my buddies each tried... then we tried with 2 or 3 persons just mashing the mouse like crazy! We tried other mouses to no avail. Dropping the game because of this, what a shame! Although it did end up causing a comical "Office Space"-ish scene lol this game looked very promising to be honest.

Le game design est bien pensé, notamment grâce aux mécaniques d’ancrages. Selon moi, le gameplay reste parfois un peu lourd et imprécis : les sauts manquent de finesse, certains combats sont rigides et l’esquive n’est pas toujours réactive. Malgré cela, l’ensemble fonctionne bien et reste agréable une fois les mécaniques assimilées. Le suivi des quêtes n’est pas toujours clair, il faut donc aimer chercher et revenir souvent sur ses pas. L’exploration est intéressante, l’histoire captivante et les cinématiques vraiment très belles. [b]Je recommande ![/b]

La verdad, este juego es una total obra maestra, me ha encantado, he dedicado mas de 15 horas al juego porque muchas veces uno se queda atrapado sin saber para donde ir o cual es el siguiente paso, a veces toca pasar por lugares específicos para activar lo siguiente y pues se hace un tanto complejo porque si pasaste antes por allá y no se activó lo que se debía activar, luego te quedas varado buscando alternativas. Aun así 10/10 me ha encantado!

A decepção que esse jogo me causou chega a ser triste, porque ele parte de uma ideia excelente: um metroidvania lovecraftiano com bons puzzles, uma história atraente, um visual belíssimo e chefes onde o combate nem sempre envolve lutar de fato. Mas aí começam as decepções: jogabilidade esquisita, combate ruim, problemas de performance, bugs, partes de escuridão extremamente irritantes e chefes que exigem mecânicas que o jogo simplesmente nunca apresentou antes. Eu estava genuinamente adorando a experiência, até chegar a um certo ponto em que o jogo não apenas deixou a desejar, ele se tornou insuportável!

The Last Case of Benedict Fox is a neat little metroidvania. It's hard to recommend at $25, but I'd say it's reasonable between $5 and $15. I'd also say, this is a game made by a studio that hadn't built a game of this genre before and it kinda shows. It's a little rough around the edges on controls and a few bugs (after a few hours the game slows, likely a memory leak, a restart of the game fixes it). It's a little cumbersome where the map and pause menu is delayed and not really smooth the way the premium metroidvania games are. If you're hot off of Hollow Knight / Silksong, this is gonna feel *bad*. But if you can take it for what it is, it's all right. The approach to storytelling through a nightmarish Lovecraftian mindscape is pretty cool, it's a fun way to get a story told to you.

The voice acting will feel stilted, the dialogue is simpler than the lore writing, but deep down it's a story about two parents and how they failed their son. I actually liked the puzzle elements more than the combat (I probably died less than 20 times across the whole game). If Plot Twist built another metroidvania focusing moreso on puzzle unlocks, I'd be a lot more interested. Consider buying on sale if you got an itch for this genre and have already played the greats, this one isn't in that list at all, but I've definitely touched worse.

This game doesn’t deserve the negative reviews. Most critics clearly didn’t make it past the first boss (based on achievement %) and that’s a shame, because there’s a solid 15+ hours of content beyond that point.

The Last Case of Benedict Fox is exactly what a Lovecraftian exploration metroidvania should be. The protagonist isn’t a trained soldier, so it adds up for the combat to feel clunky at times. But that’s part of the charm. Honestly, who among us would stay composed while facing a cosmic horror that bends reality itself?

The voice acting is great and really enhances the eerie atmosphere. As a Lovecraft fan, I’m amazed this one slipped under so many radars. It captures that same sense of mystery and slow-burn discovery I had from the original Resident Evil. A flawed but fascinating experience and easily one of the better Metroidvanias I’ve played in recent years.

So, to say it while staying in theme - A game whose artistry whispers of forgotten realms and unfathomable design, as though conceived by minds not meant for mortal comprehension.

Ощущение будто я пропустил пролог, события происходят слишком быстро и из-за этого ты вообще не понимаешь чо к чему. Кто такой Бенедикт, что за демон с ним тусует, почему в поместье какое-то. По поводу геймплея могу сказать, что со способностями тоже непонятки, тебе очень сумбурно говорят вот так бить, так сильно бить, тут паррирование, тут стрелять. Ладно боевка очень простая. Загадки аля резидент, интересно, но опять же без какой либо подводки. Весь первый час ощущение будто все вокруг понимают что происходит, а я один совсем ничего уяснить не могу.

Man, I really wanted to recommend this. The vibes are nice, the art direction is pretty good, the exploration and puzzles are definite highlights. On the other hand, the combat feels so clunky and awkward - and while the setting is interesting and makes it feel like I want to know more, the actual story is...really bland and forgettable. This issue is compounded by the bafflingly flat storytelling style that feels completely uninterested in whether the player understands anything that is going on at any point.

It's a damn shame, because when Benedict Fox is at its best, I was actually having a fairly good time. The puzzles have a good variety and I found myself actually enjoying translating some of the ciphers and even having to snag a piece of paper and take notes by hand. The metroidvania loop of exploring, upgrading, and exploring further is just as addicting as it always is to me - the game really made me want to know what was around the next corner, even if it just was going to reward me with another dull cutscene without much tangible information. And if you really want to customize your experience, I have to thank the devs for including separate difficulty options for each aspect of the game. Combat, puzzles, and exploration can all be adjusted individually to tailor the game to your specific tastes. I wish more games did that.

If you're a diehard metroidvania fan, this might be worth playing, but there are so many others to try first. If PlotTwist Studios could adjust a bit in a sequel I think they could have something pretty cool, but for now I'm not sure I'd recommend this particular adventure.

12小时全成就，正常过一遍剧情大概8个小时。之前在xgp上玩了英文版的当时还是ea，这次更新中文了，汉化水平很高，非常顶级的类恶魔城，战斗机制很丰富但战斗比重并不高，几乎没有boss战，7成左右体验都是解密，画面很顶，细节也很好，地图做的不算差但水平比较一般，解密部分难度很大，大部分解密是随机所以查攻略也没有用，需要找到规律和原理，比如国际象棋关卡，就刚需了解国际象棋规则才行，欧美做的游戏在那边国际象棋普及率很高，多少算文化差异，中间预言之书关卡有点强行拖节奏算一个差评，进入最终关卡不能再自由移动错过搜集也是减分项，部分引导几乎为0，有点消磨耐心，战斗部分非常少，可能会误导部分受众，除此之外质量设计性价比都堪称十分完美的独立游戏

this is a mix between metroidvania and an escape room, and I loved it!
the whole thing was mostly based around exploration with vast world and lots of branching pathways, it could get almost overwhelming at times but the map did good job at helping to keep track of everything you still didn't get to
the game was also very intersting visually and i generally really liked it but bc of how busy it was sometimes it was hard to see alternative paths and in few cases enemies
combat could be challenging but it felt minimized for the sake of exploration, there were also not that many boss battles which i'm really sad about
and finally the puzzles were fun and not too easy but not too hard either and very versitile

Si l'aventure est assez plaisante en terme d'écriture (malgré quelques dialogues non traduits) et sur le plan visuel, beaucoup de choses viennent gâcher l'expérience.
- Les limbes.
- Les combats mal équilibré avec seulement 3 types d'ennemis. Comble du ridicule il y a un bestiaire. La plupart des ennemis peuvent vous envoyer en plus voler très loin.
- L'optimisation médiocre surtout dans les phases de boss fight.
- Les tutoriels mal branlés passé celui d'intro.

Sinon le côté medroivania est assez correct, par contre Lovecraft j'ai du mal à percevoir où, car à part les tentacules et les limbes qui vous énerveront tellement ce système de lampe torche est mal fichu.
Les quelques quêtes annexes sont globalement assez sympathiques et permettent d'augmenter la durée de vie

Got sort of mixed feelings on this one - setting is fun interesting art style is beautiful puzzles feel rewarding and really makes you think!
Combat seems secondary to the game as its only challenging when you start off, as soon as you get your upgrades going feels trivial. You might say wait but what about traversal puzzles? No such thing here its all pretty straightforward, I suppose dark zones are what they were intended to be but when I unlocked them I was able to already max out the item needed for it which again made it pretty straightforward,
Also final boss is weird in a sense that you need to spot a specific thing do anther thing and use a skill that you have only learned of in arena but never really had a chance to use as needed here before... Overall its on a good side, felt pretty fun and when you are figuring out puzzles when you unlock new tool was the best! Still leaves a lot to be desired, but if there is ever a part 2 I will most definitely check it out!

The story is solid, the environments look amazing, the characters are interesting and the gameplay is quite nice, but the mixed review is there for a reason. With unfinished subtitles, not very well explained puzzles, horrible voice acting, a noticeable memory leak, and a backup save system (nice in theory) that does not stretch before the final point of no return, this game has left me with quite a bad aftertaste.

The game has great settings for puzzle difficulty or visual exploration options, but i only found those in my final hour, so unfortunately have not had the pleaseure of having an easier time exploring and kept getting lost frequently.

Small gripes with animations, such as glitchy movement going from standing to walking, game throwing a running animation for a brief moment in between.

After reluctantly 100%ing the game to at least see everything, my one-word summary of the game is "uninspired".
On paper a metroidvania mixed with "lovecraftian" elements and puzzles instead of the typical traversal abilities sounds great, but "The Last Case of Benedict Fox" only fulfills these aspects on a surface level without making these ideas interesting or making them work together in a coherent manner.

Exploration is overly reliant on the in-game map as the world design is nice to look at, but visually cluttered, lacking in clarity and needlessly convoluted.
Combat lacks impact, depth and variety as there are really only 3 main types of enemies (humanoid, "dog" and "flying").
Puzzles all boil down to "match word/symbol" with extremely minor twists (if any) and are gated behind pickups that are seemingly arbitrarily strewn across the map.
The "lovecraftian" aspect is critically lacking any sense of uncanny dread, madness or cosmic horror. There's just lots of tentacles and some run-of-the-mill secret organisations.

Hab alles auf leicht gestellt (Kämpfe, Rätsel, etc.) damit Kämpfe und/oder Verfolgungsszenen nicht mit endlosem trial and error Momenten enden. War die beste Entscheidung. Trotzdem gibts gewisse Gegner, die nur 2x zuhauen u. man hat das Zeitliche gesegnet, auch auf leicht! An manchen Stellen musste ich bei Youtube nachstöbern, was zu tun ist, weil man feststeckte. Rätsel lassen sich übrigens auch automatisch lösen. Etliche "Anker" lassen einen von A nach B zurückreisen, weil man gewisse Türen / Wege erst freischalten kann, wenn dafür die Fähigkeiten oder Schlüssel gefunden wurden. Die Steuerung mit ´nem X-Box-Controller lief super smooth, tolle Story, coole Upgrade-Möglichkeiten (Dank Tattoos) für Skills. Rundum somit ein richtig tolles, schickes Lovecraft-Game und ein echter Augenschmaus für meine Äuglein. Klare Kaufempfehlung.

I will recommend this game, but know that there are many little annoyances that might make you want to stop playing.

The game isn't bad, but it is bad at teaching you how to do things and what to do next. Right from the very beginning, it throws all kinds of things at your face, making it feel overwhelming, even though it isn't that complicated.

Puzzles don't get explained on how to use your tools to solve them at all. You get some of the tools, feel like somethings still missing, keep exploring and eventually give up and look it up. But then you realize, you could have done the puzzle all along and just didn't understand that you could! Once you do know when to actually approach a puzzle, it becomes a lot better. But sadly the game doesn't give you that on its own.

The combat in this game is pretty simple. It tries to give you these hard enemies and that hard first boss that will beat you up at first, however, once you're past the initial one and gotten some upgrades, the game gets easier and easier and combat will simply change to "how do I kill the enemies the quickest", instead of "how do I even beat this enemy" You feel really powerful really quickly imo.

I like the way the map is designed, but I do feel like it sometimes has too many empty rooms and pathways. Sometimes, you can already get to certain rooms, which you will need to go to later, so they seem empty and the thing you need to get only spawns after you're far enough into the story. It always feels kinda bad to go through a section just to find nothing at the end. I wish that they would at least show these spots on the map. All kinds of things are marked on the map, which abilities you need to go further, but some very minor small things, you need to collect SOMEWHERE in a huge section you've already been to, is pretty boring. It should at least be easier to find what you're looking for.

I love metroidvania style games, but this one is so much more extreme in being confusing and letting you run around everywhere without knowing where to even go.. it.. sucks the fun out of it. I had to look up how to continue several times throughout my playthrough. Most of the time, it works no problem. But sometimes the story wants you to do one thing specifically and everything else doesn't matter until you did that one thing. I would probably have stopped playing this if it weren't for the internet and having maps and playthroughs available.

Overall I liked the gameplay, the abilities and the story. It has a unique artstyle with lots of different lightings, though it does sometimes bug out and gets way too bright for a while in specific locations or cutscenes randomly.

firstly, i love the vibe, the art style, a lot about it.
BUT, i love games like this, where youre stuck for 2hrs straight running around with nothing changing, to find out you HAD to go to training to "re-learn" to double jump, the ♥♥♥♥?, so i bought the other items and did training for them too, nothing changed.
i got as far as collected 2 of the 4 pieces of the coin thing of my grandmother... and im stuck running around for another 2hrs. EDIT, i decided to get back in, it some reason let me pass a section, i got 3rd piece and got tattoo lady, but now im stuck again, no clue where to go. i have 2 indicators on map of where i gotta go, but theyre out of reach. stuff this game.

i even put ALL the easy mode ♥♥♥♥ on, easy combat with immortality, auto solve puzzles, hate exploring ON, etc. and im still running around. i am so confused

I liked my time in this game.

I didn't find it to have poor controls as other people have said. There are absolutely weird frame rate issues. I had to look up how to solve the rift puzzles at first, because I wasn't sure what I was doing mechanically with them. Otherwise, I enjoyed the puzzle solving mixed in with the normal metroidvania stuff.

My biggest gripe is that there aren't enough bosses or enemy types.

Biggest success of the game was definitely the puzzle aspect. Figuring out puzzles on your own felt good.

J'ai acheté ce jeu en promo il y a quelque mois, juste pour fournir mon backlog déjà assez conséquent en comptant le système de famille steam. Mais qu'importe je l'achète quand même et je me lance dans le jeu quelques mois après.

Et bien.. J'ai joué 8h sur une même journée. Pourquoi ? Je ne sais pas vraiment, je me suis juste retrouvé happé dans l'univers du jeu et son ambiance. Il n'y a rien à dire de spécial sur son gameplay, du corps à corps et une arme à distance qui se recharge en attaquant au corps à corps, c'est simple et ça fait le boulot. L'histoire est sympathique mais ce n'est pas non plus le gros point fort du jeu.

Le gros point fort du jeu c'est son univers et sa progression dans les deux limbes. Beaucoup d'aller retour pour débloquer des endroits une fois que vous avez la bonne compétence, mais c'est typique des Metroidvania donc jusque la tout va bien. Mais c'est si jouissif de découvrir toute la map et de découvrir tout les secrets du jeu, c'est même addictif. Et c'est pour ça que je vous recommande ce jeu.

I wanted to like TLCoBF, but I was disappointed. The metroidvania elements are there, along with the lovecraftian style horror and noir but it didn't land. the combat is a mess, the gun is way too overpowered and the last boss fight made me nearly not finish it.

If the combat was good maybe it would have been a solid title.

2. El juego se enfoca en un argumento muy visto, el reino de las sombras (o de las tintas), lo que no lo hace original al respecto, a pesar de eso, la historieta familiar no está mal aunque podrían haberla sacado más jugo.
3. Muchos diálogos y descripciones no tienen sentido, esa parte surrealista no me ha gustado.
4. Juego muy visual, en el diseño de los escenarios sí tiene curro y es original, un Alicia en el país de las maravillas desordenado.
5. De duración está bien lo puedes disfrutar si haces los objetivos secundarios.

断断续续开了三个档，前面俩个档玩了俩三个小时就没有玩了，一开始感觉引导挺弱的，但是因为这个画风真的很喜欢就玩了会，后面就没什么时间玩就下了，这个是第三个档，蹭着暑假一路给他玩完，我感觉挺不错的，可玩性主要还是跑酷吧，刷图，怪物有个机制挺无语的，死了刷新后复活就算了，打了至少爆点墨水什么的吧，还有就是有一些地方没有必要，就是为了拖时长搞得，没有物品，还是死路，特别是在黑暗地方有几个没有意义的死路，挺无语的，其他的没有什么吐槽的，画风是真的好看，也是我坚持玩下去的原因，每个地图有不一样风景，怪物打击感还不错吧，解密也可以设置直接解，也可以设置难度和无敌，对手残很友好，灵泊这个设定不错，可以当休闲小游戏来玩。

С игрой я познакомился еще на момент ее анонса в 2022 году, и стал с нетерпением ждать ее релиза. На то время дизайн и визуальный ряд игры произвели на меня положительное впечатление. Но когда игра вышла, она мигом утонула в негативных отзывах. Ругали как оптимизацию, так и геймплейную часть. Я как-то сразу расстроился, и даже пробовать ее не стал, чисто отложил в дальний ящик надеясь что игру починят. И вот сейчас я купил ее по внушительной скидке после крупного патча, и могу с уверенностью сказать, что игра...ну норм.
[h1]♥♥♥♥♥ не понял, но очень интересно[/h1]
Признаться, сюжет я вообще не понял. По началу я пытался вникнуть в происходящее, и у меня это даже получалось. Играем мы за некого "Бенедикта Фокса" [strike]у которого присутствует шизофрения[/strike] в котором сидит паранормальная сущность именующая себя компаньоном. Фокс находит адрес своего отца, и отправляется к нему в поисках ответов на то почему отец бросил его в детстве, кем он является, и что за сущность обитает в Фоксе. В итоге отца мы находим уже в отрицательно живом состоянии, и отправляемся в его Лимбо, местный параллельный мир, в поисках ответов.
Проблема сюжета в том, что общая картина то понятна, а вот детали объясняются так себе. Из-за того, что игрок скачет из одного лимбо в другой, все легко может перемешаться в голове. И вроде бы сюжет в общих чертах понятен, но остается куча недосказанностей на которые ты ждешь ответ в конце, а в ответ получаешь одну из худших концовок эвер.

Сюжет сюжетом, а в метроидвании все играют ради геймплея, и с ним тоже не все так гладко.
- [b]Исследование мира[/b]: Само исследование сделано на приличном уровне. Бегать приятно, карта сделана отлично. Все закутки, неисследованные части, закрытые двери и головоломки сразу помечаются на карте. За всю игру у меня ни разу не было момента, когда я не мог понять куда мне идти, и всегда все было понятно. Как и в любой другой метроидвании на протяжении всей игры будут давать различные способности для продвижения по карте, и все это ровным слоем размазано по игре.
Ну а про визуал я и говорить не буду, для меня он стал ключевым в выборе игры. Если и пробовать играть в игру, то только ради него.
- [b]Боевая система[/b]: Боевка же сделана не так хорошо, как исследование. С одной стороны она не успевает надоесть из-за весьма небольшого хронометража игры, а с другой стороны имеем очень скудный арсенал. По факту у Фокса всего две пушки на всю игру, кинжал и пистолет. Все разнообразие приходится на приемы компаньона. Он умеет брать противника в захват, он умеет ускорять Фокса дабы тот сделал сшибающий с ног и подкидывающий в воздух противника подкат, есть всякие парирования, щиты, и даже ловушку можно поставить. Вот только проблема в том, что НИЧЕГО из этого в игре не нужно, она спокойно проходится одним комбо, три удара кинжалом и выстрел из пистолета после. Захват крайне ситуативен, и полезен только у речек-говнотечек, в которые можно сбрасывать противников чтобы они ваншотнулись(ну и так же забирать щит у одного противника). Делая подкат можно красочно пристрелить недруга в воздухе, или прибить его к земле при помощи захвата. Про ловушку я вообще молчу, я за всю игру ею так и не воспользовался. И вот как бы есть достаточное количество приемов, но этим пользоваться абсолютно не хочется, да и не нужно. В итоге всю игру игрок пользуется только ударом кинжала, выстрелом из пистолета и парированием, благо игра короткая, и стандартное комбо не успевает надоесть.
- [b]Загадки[/b]: Загадки сделаны приятно хорошо. На всю игру насчитывается 4-5 типов загадок, которые не успевают приесться. Тут есть и шахматы, и простая арифметика, и даже поработать с картами таро дадут. Большая часть загадок разгадывается при помощи специального устройства, которое Фокс находит в начале игры, и по началу пользоваться им неприятно, и я не понимал что от меня хочет игра, но довольно быстро привыкаешь, и от загадок начинаешь получать удовольствие

В итоге игра просто норм. Не сказать что после всех отзывов я ждал чего-то крутого, скорее мои ожидания были занижены и надежды были только на сносный визуал. Но получил я вполне съедобную игру, которая работает и имеет более-менее неплохой геймплей. Честно, не знаю насколько все плохо было на релизе, как то не вдавался в подробности, но сейчас, если брать игру по скидке, то получить дозу удовольствия вполне можно.

I enjoyed the game a great deal.

It's a visual treat, absolutely beautiful. Every part of every level is designed with really effective compositions. The camera just swings from perfect shot to perfect shot in every room and area.

The puzzles are decent (I liked them) if largely disconnected from each other (there's a little bit of solving large systems, knowing when you find new tools to apply to various effect, but mostly they are like puzzles on specific doors, serving as keys to gate progress).

I actually really liked the combat, which judging from other reviews puts me in the minority. It was quite difficult, and the punishment for failure is a little stiff, but not insurmountable, as checkpoints are regular enough to mitigate some frustration. The control scheme is certainly quirky, but it does a lot of interesting things and was reasonably responsive, enough that I felt like when I, say, missed a block, it was more my fault than the game's. I almost wish the enemies had been weaker, but more populous. I mostly didn't use a lot of the items/consumables the game offered aside from the base heal, but I liked the grabbing and throwing moves that are introduced mid/late game. A spoiler about the bosses & combat that I think is significant: [spoiler]There are only two combat bosses in the game, which felt VERY strange. The others don't use any combat mechanics. The first boss is extremely difficult and required many many attempts, especially as you will likely fight it before being fully used to the controls. Game reset is quick though and its not too far from a checkpoint so it wasn't terrible to just throw myself at him until I figured him out.[/spoiler]

Progress is gated behind killing enemies/clearing the area successfully as you explore, which from looking at other people's comments and reviews tripped a lot of people up (finding and killing everything for the currency to purchase exploration abilities). However, the game offers a nice solution to help with some of that: modular difficulty. Which I think is clever as hell and puts a lot of control in the player's hands to tune their experience. You can tune several aspects of the game's "difficulty" separately from each other, and you can freely change these settings at any time (combat, puzzles, and exploration). The exploration setting in particular is a great way to get hints if you hit a wall, as it can highlight areas on the map where you have missed enemies or other points of interest. I used that one towards the end to help pick up those last scraps of completion before finishing the game, so I didn't have to check every corner manually. It was nice to set it to easy, check the map, then set it back to normal or hard to remove unnecessary information from the map and make it easier to read in different circumstances.

I enjoyed the story. Not groundbreaking, but interesting and engaging, and I liked Fox and his Companion. It was moody and light (as in not exposition heavy, a lot is left implied or not explained to the player, but it's clear the characters know more), but I can see where some might find it hard to engage with, due to leaving a lot unsaid. It could feel confusing to some, which may cause them to disengage with the story. I like this style, it can make a world feel alive without bogging things down under a lot of technical lore, and it allows focus to stay on what matters to the narrative itself. It's more about the relationship between the characters you're exploring and their experiences than the gritty operation of the mysterious organizations around them, which are largely left unexplained (because none of the characters involved need to explain it to each other, there's no audience stand-in for story exposition). It maintains a lot of mystery. The world building behind the story is great, but done with a pretty light touch. The voice acting is a little rough.

The game menu (particularly navigating the inventory and notes? sections) is terrible. Just a fight every time I open it up to look at an item or clue again. Deeply unintuitive and difficult. There's a key on screen to identify what buttons you need to move each... section... thing? Had to refer back to it constantly (the actions never became second-nature), but the text is tiny and hard to find (I don't have great eyesight), so I'd often end up scrolling onto some nonsense page while I tried to orient myself. Easily the worst part of the game. XD

I experienced a few very minor bugs that didn't really impact play too negatively. It ran quite smoothly for me.

The Last Case of Benedict Fox es un metroidvania lovecraftiano mezclado con multitud de puzles, acertijos y secretos por descubrir. Es un metroidvania en el sentido de que el personaje, sus habilidades, sus armas, etc van evolucionando a lo largo del juego, lo cual será imprescindible para conseguir avanzar en la aventura. También es un metroidvania en el sentido de que tendrás que volver varias veces a las mismas zonas que ya habías visitado antes para provechar las nuevas habilidades del personaje y poder entonces conseguir ciertos objetos o resolver ciertos puzles. Y sí, el juego está repleto de puzles, acertijos y enigmas, y en realidad tiene tanto de esto como de lo anterior. Por tanto, se podría decir que se trata de un metroidvania mezclado con puzles y aventura.

Técnicamente es precioso, recreando un mundo lovecraftiano oscuro muy reconocible repleto de detalles. Jugablemente también está muy bien, y la verdad es que el hecho de ver cómo va agrandándose el mapa cada vez que estás atravesando una zona nueva a mí personalmente me ha enganchado mucho. El combate está bien llevado a cabo, llegando a disponer de multitud de posibilidades cuando vas evolucionando las habilidades del personaje. Pero a pesar de eso los combates con los enemigos resulta ser la parte más sencilla del juego. Lo verdaderamente complicado radica en los puzles y los acertijos. Algunos resultan evidentes, pero pocos. La mayoría pueden ser resueltos pensando un poco y ayudándote necesariamente de los objetos y notas escritas que irás recogiendo por los diferentes mapeados. Pero habrá ocasiones en las que no sabrás qué tienes que hacer, o dónde tienes que ir, lo cual es algo frustrante.

A pesar de ello, en mi opinión es un muy buen juego. Si te gustan los metroidvanias en los que prime la acción sin tener que pensar mucho, no creo que éste juego sea para ti. Pero si te gustan los puzles y los acertijos, el ir poco a poco averiguando el devenir de una gran historia hasta descubrir la verdad, el juego te encantará. A mí me ha enganchado hasta conseguir completarlo, y el sabor de boca que me ha dejado es francamente bueno. Merece mucho la pena.

I see a lot of people complain about stuttering and frame drops, which did happen to me once - but I turned the graphics down a little and it was a non issue - didn't happen again - and I was streaming the game in discord. I do have a decent PC, but I don't see where the issue is with this one.

This game starts out feeling a bit clunky and slow with the controls, but by the end of the game, you'll have plenty of abilities and upgrades to feel more fluid and powerful as the protagonist. Not to mention, you get used to the timing of your own attacks and learn the visual and auditory cues that are needed to be effective against the mobs.

Lots of gamer logic is needed to not only solve some puzzles but navigate the map as well as some combat scenarios. You cant just button mash and win, you need to know at least a few ability combos to not get stomped into the ground. I think this game may be especially difficult for someone who is new to "gamer logic" and doesn't plan to use reasoning, clues, etc. to uncover stuff. This IS a puzzle game! There are a lot of codes, cyphers, and riddles!

I did note that the subtitles seemed to be messed up a little at the end and omit quite a bit of what the characters were saying inputting a <COMP> in their place - odd.

The game art, in my opinion, was such an interesting choice! I love the environments. They are colored vividly and they are so surreal its just beautiful, I killed myself quite a few times looking at the pretty scenery instead of what I was doing. The character models seem strange, almost like they don't fit or belong in the scene - which strangely enough, worked brilliantly with the overall aesthetic and concept, being Lovecraftian.

There was only 1 puzzle we had to look up between my partner and myself to complete this at 100% - and checking how many tarot cards we were supposed to have in total. Everything will make you think - but by no means is anything to challenging to figure out on your own, In my opinion.

puzzle was bugged for me, looked online, had the right solution. still wouldn't take it.
had enough when the game takes away your power-up/equipment for the third time and "trial and error" the next segment/boss battle. why?
there are better metroidvania, story is ok, but it never picks up steam since every cutscene is spaced out in the world.

go play something else.

I gave The Last Case of Benedict Fox a shot, thinking I was about to dive into a dark, moody Metroidvania with some cool detective vibes and a twist of Lovecraft. And for the first hour or two, I was kinda into it! The atmosphere is great, the art style is the one thing this game absolutely nails. It feels like stepping into a gothic watercolor painting with tentacles hiding in the shadows.

But then... the game actually starts. And that’s when the frustration kicks in. The map is a mess. I don’t mean confusing in a fun, “ooh let me figure this out” kind of way. I mean confusing in a “where the hell do I go and why does every door need some item I’ve never even heard of” kind of way. I spent most of my time wandering around, backtracking, hoping to stumble into progress. Spoiler: I didn’t.

The combat is clunky and not fun. The exploration isn’t rewarding. The progression is tied more to collecting currency and fighting random enemies than solving puzzles or finding cool new areas.

The story... is there. I think. It’s trying to be deep and mysterious, but it ends up feeling kind of jumbled. Between the vague voice acting and the scattered clues, I had a hard time piecing it all together. And after a while, I didn’t really care enough to try.

TL;DR: The Last Case of Benedict Fox has style and cool puzzle ideas, but it’s held back by frustrating level design, bad combat, and an identity crisis. Not the worst game I’ve played, but not one I’ll be finishing either. 4/10

Love the vibe, the artstyle, the story seems interesting. However, the performance is seriously shoddy and there are broken animations, making the experience janky and unpleasant. Example - character turn animations are completely missing in the latest version. Combat is also quite unwieldy and clunky. Might give it another chance, but the first impression is very disappointing, which is a huge shame, cause I've been looking forward to a lovecraftian metroidvania

The Last Case of Benedict Fox is a metroidvania that tries to do something a bit more, with heavy emphasis on story and puzzles.

Following a main case, in addition to various sidequests gave an extra push to push forward. The setting was very interesting to me, and visuals together with audio made a very compelling world to explore.

Puzzles are used a lot, and usually, you need to find various items in the world before you can come back and attempt to solve them. Some more difficult than others, but there is also an Accessibility option that can auto solve them if you don't want to deal with the solving part.

Combat is ok, gets much better after upgrades, but still, I would say that its the least interesting thing from the game. No difficulty spikes.

Achievement wise, it's straight forward, with a point of no return that renders some missable. But there is a clear warning for that, and there is time before the end to wrap the remaining achievements.

Last, I played the Definitive Edition mainly on Steam Deck, and I cannot say I recommended it. Even though no crashes, there were many graphical issues (background elements not rendering), many performance dips, and I couldn't play it on a stable 45FPS (a mix of Low with a few Medium settings). I ended up streaming it from PC to the Deck, and that was a much more enjoyable experience.

Terrible. Just terrible.
Optimization is bad as frames just keep dropping and cannot keep consistent framerate. Environmental design is great but the level design is horrendous. The gameplay direction is so bad, you are constantly not knowing what to do next in the game, and I had the map assist ON. Like how is that possible? IT's a metroidvania but they don't tell you when you get a new ability ready to unlock or unlocked and that caused me to go around and around trying to find where to go next.

The upgrading mechanic is also TERRIBLE. You cannot upgrade unless you kill enemies and enemies give you currency ONCE. NO FARMING. NO RESOURCE GATHERING. I guess it's a blessing in disguise especially when the combat feels extremely stiff and just odd. The ragdoll physics make no sense as an enemy can cause you to fly super far and possibly off the platform. This happens so much in the later half of the game, especially when you cannot see them past your camera and they snipe you from miles away.

The sound mixing is also extremely TERRIBLE. Voice tracks are always playing on top of one another and music is not noticeable. Whenever you go to the lady who gives you upgrades, Benedict always makes a load groaning/moaning sound, dreamybull would have competition. There are also no sound effects in the cutscenes which makes every one of them fall flat. Last TERRIBLE thing about this game, is the story.

It's so hard to keep track of what is going on in the story because they layer in so much quests and details in the ♥♥♥♥♥♥ collectibles you have to gather, and this feeling of being lost is amplified when the game doesn't even tell you where to go next.

The only good thing about this game is the art direction.

This games has a serious problem of memory leak. After 01-02 hours of gameplay there is an annoying framedrop. It doesn't make it unplayable but it could be a no deal for some players.

I'm going to be a little bias because I love cosmic horror and all related to HP Lovecraft, so this game hit me in my heart. I kinda love it. Is indeed a metroidvania more oriented to exploration (and yes, you are going to explore a lot). There is a considerable lack of enemies. Is like the devs wanted to give you enough time to appreciate the beautiful backgrounds. This game has an excelent art direction, perhaps is one of the most beautiful sidescrollers I've ever played.

The puzzles are not hard. They bring a fair challenge even for those that doesn't like puzzles.

THe combat is clunky and hard at the beginning but once you have some skills and weapon upgrade you will dance around enemies. And you can pretty much ignore enemies if you want.

Is good, give it a try if the frame drop problem is not a deal breaker for you.

Fun game. Has a unique feel and artstyle. Enjoyed both story and puzzles. Things that seemed difficult were only so cause you didnt have all the equipment or upgrades you needed yet. Game throws you in and doesnt tell you what to do, what you need, or how to use things which I really like. Figuring things out on your own feels great. The conundrum device with all the number cifers were a lot easier after a few puzzles. At times the frame rate dips. Didnt find a solution for this other than restarting the game but it didnt bother me much. Played through it in 2 days. Would probably play it again.

Perseguido por la Orden debido a vínculos pasados y enfrascado en una importante investigación acerca de “El Ritual”, Benedict descubre que su padre es una pieza clave del rompecabezas, que guarda importantes secretos. El juego bebe directamente del género metroidvania, postulándose como una aventura de combates y plataformas en 2’5D con un enorme mapa que tendremos que ir desbloqueando progresivamente a medida que desarrollemos nuestro personaje. Sin embargo, existen algunos aspectos que le hacen sobresalir, ya que el título pone un peso enorme en el desarrollo de su profunda trama y en la investigación a través de ítems, documentos y eventos que se irán sucediendo. Los puzzles juegan un papel fundamental y es que nos encontraremos una gran variedad de ellos, desde combinaciones rápidas de comandos hasta complejos acertijos que deberemos descifrar con ayuda de distintos documentos repartidos por el Limbo. La movilidad y agilidad de Benedict a través del escenario es rápida y disfrutona, especialmente su triple salto. Los combates pueden resultar muy básicos al principio, incluso algo confusos, pues existen muchos comandos y acciones a los que tendremos que acostumbrarnos, sin embargo, irán ganando calidad y protagonismo a medida que mejoremos nuestras armas (una pistola y una daga) y consigamos nuevas habilidades demoniacas a través de tatuajes especiales. Disfruto mucho jugando un buen metroidvania, pero es cierto que la mayoría pecan de monótonos o poco originales, convirtiéndose en meras copias unos de otros con diferencias en la trama, los gráficos y alguna que otra mecánica. Afortunadamente, a veces aparece algún título que sobresale y este es el caso de The Last Case of Benedict Fox, un juego que me ha tenido enganchado de principio a fin, con una historia atrapante y profunda, así como una combinación excelente entre combates, exploración y puzzles sorprendentemente buenos. El gran repertorio de mecánicas y su detallado apartado gráfico hacen que brille por encima de la media. No todo son aplausos, puesto que el juego pincha un poco en los combates, algo farragosos y poco fluidos, a pesar del enorme repertorio de habilidades que disponemos. Su potencia gráfica también le perjudican, haciendo que el juego vaya a tirones en repetidas ocasiones, sin llegar a perjudicar la experiencia, pero que pondrá de los nervios a los más puristas.

类银玩家遇到过不去的地方会觉得是自己还没有解锁对应能力，解迷玩家遇到卡关会觉得自己脑子有问题，你游还不告诉玩家解不开这个谜题到底是因为没解锁能力还是自己笨，玩家就会在过不去的坎上感受到无穷无尽的负反馈，原来类银游戏的探索乐趣被你变成了折磨，建议把当初想到做解密加类银的天才给开除了，还有建议给游戏里加内置修改器和自动解谜的人包个大红包！
除了美术真的一无是处了。。。

I have mixed opinions of this game. While I love the artwork and lore, the gameplay, puzzles, controls and overall jankiness of the game is really offputting.

I usually love metrovanias, mystical games and puzzles and although this game has aspects of it, it often fell flat on it's face for me. Could have been an awesome game if done properly but had too many problems for me to recommend this game.

Buen Metroidvania. Me gusta el uso que se le da a los puzzles en este juego, que en vez de necesitar una habilidad nueva para avanzar, necesites conocimiento para pasarte un puzzle.
Lo peor del juego para mi es el mapa, es un poco lioso y como te saltes una mínima cosa, para volver a encontrarla... imposible.

Cara, eu gostei da ideia de poder investigar o que aconteceu, os itens inspecionáveis, a arte, as vozes, a ideia do demônio e a interação com o protagonista, a exploração e principalmente os puzzles com vários níveis de entendimento e que vai te conduzindo para os puzzles mais difficiles.

O que não gostei foram algumas cutscenes (talvez usar mais frames pra deixar mais fluido e usar de algum outro artificio para poder complementar a cena), a progressão é meio rápida demais, muitos itens que poderiam ter mais interações e tive alguns bugs de legenda no final.

Mas teve tanta coisa boa que esses detalhes passam a ser nem tão impactantes assim. Poder tirar e colocar as dicas e auxilios é tão bom que é outro ponto a se ressaltar.

Vale a pena demais esse jogo.

很精致的画风设计，和重克苏鲁元素很合胃口，本人很喜欢主角和魔伴设定。场景有很多很好看感觉和剧情有关的装饰，要是有些能加入检视要素就好了。游戏更着重解密，有些解密提示指引很不明显，比如裂隙的解密、营地密码和塔罗牌。战斗部分十分简单，也很少，但战斗手法很多。流程较短，打折入手血赚。总体还是个很好玩的类银恶游戏。

tldr; get it on sale and you might enjoy it far more than i did

the art style is what drew me in and for $2.50, its super cool thematically and visually stunning, but i couldnt get past the first 30 minutes before getting bored. you're dropped into the tutorial instantly after the odd pacing of the opening cutscenes, with zero explanations as to who you are, why you're possessed, why you're doing what you're doing, etc. you also walk into Benedict's [spoiler]dead father[/spoiler] practically immediately, but he doesn't seem that upset about it.

i didnt care for the combat or the controls. neither were particularly enjoyable even after remapping to oblivion. the double jump is not actually a double jump, and there are far too many button inputs for a brute-forcer such as myself. its obvious this game was meant for a controller and not a keyboard. brain hurty, me smash.

An unique and underrated gem of a Metroidvania, unlike anything I've ever played in the MV genre. It is a mystery detective case solving game with absolutely gorgeous art and great soundtrack. The combat is very well done but many upgrades and ways of attack. Your main weapon is a dagger and a handgun but you can also utilize your "companion" eldritch tentacles for attack and navigating ability. Game also has options to lower combat difficulty and "point you in the right direction" option if you feel lost. I admit that I turn both on and it helps tremendously but if you enjoy exploring the whole map with challenging combat, you're free to do that yourself. The story itself it great with many twists and turns on exploring the death of Benedict Fox's parent and discovering the horror that lie behind it. Very unique game, recommended for MV lover who want exploration and strong story with a side of beautiful arts
