Definitely not as good as the follow up games, but i'm glad there's an easy way to play this in a more modern form. The game peaks around the picnic table levels, as later on most of the game's levels are just waiting for objects to float in from the side of the screen. The final few cosmos levels are fun though. I would not recommend anybody go for 100%ing this game. A lot of the gold medals just require you replaying levels over and over again to get lucky with the right items to spawn. The endurance challenges aren't really hard but you need to have a video to listen to in the background or you'll go crazy playing the same level for 45 minutes. The "eat 100,000 objects" achievement is ridiculous because it means multiple hours of just replaying the final level over again. Fun game but just beat it regularly.
Levels are too repetitive, especially at the end.
Earning all achievements is ASS because half of the levels is basically rng based if you're trying to get all gold medals
If you just want to be nostalgiabated (which is not bad at all), buy every tasty planet game and you will enjoy them. If you've never played any of these games, buy Tasty Planet: Back for Seconds that's much more polished and enjoyable experience

美味星球是一款类似大鱼吃小鱼的吞吃游戏，玩家操控主角从细胞开始吃，一关一关直到吃遍宇宙，把一切都吞进肚子。游戏也算是很经典的小游戏了，用鼠标或键盘操控主角从小吃到大，不断成长最终清遍全图。玩法虽然简单但是很解压，尤其是部分关卡，前期需要东躲西藏，一步步发展最终把前期的阻碍全吞进肚子，非常解压非常爽。关卡虽然简单但是元素丰富，从细胞开始吃到海洋到上路吞吃人类世界，再吃遍天空直到去宇宙吞吃星球星系和一切。缺点的话，部分关卡尤其是后面宇宙关卡中，吃掉的东西形象比较相近，不是很好分辨，有框标识能吃，但是是跟大的重合在一起，容易不小心一头撞死。整体来说是一款不错的解压小游戏。

Супер душная игра, Back For Seconds намного лучше по дизайну уровней. Можно конечно потыкаться, пройти ради ознакомления, но если уж и хотите в съедобную планету сыграть, то сыграйте во вторую часть, она во всём лучше.

I recently bought Tasty Planet because it’s one of those games I had cracked years ago and never fully finished. As a kid, I played the demo a ton, trying to grab as many gold medals as possible before the timer ran out.
Playing the full version now, and aiming for 100%, brought back a lot of nostalgia, but also reminded me [i]exactly[/i] why I never finished the game back then.

[h2]Casual Playthrough [/h2]
If you’re playing the game casually, it is honestly a pretty fun game. Playing casually is easy and relaxing, the levels are simple, and most of them can be beaten without any frustration.
It’s not punishing at all. You’re just rolling around, eating stuff, and watching your goo grow bigger and bigger is honestly very satisfying. This is where the game shines the most.

[h2]Gold Medals [/h2]
Things change [b]real fast[/b] once you start going for gold medals. Levels like Picnic 6, Sky 4, and Orbit 3 (and really most of the Sky and Orbit levels) rely heavily on luck due to spawn rates and random item placement.
Spawn rates and random item placement can completely decide whether you succeed or fail. Sometimes, no matter how well you play, you just don’t get the items you need fast enough.
That leads to [i]restart after restart after restart[/i]. Which makes these levels feel unfair and frustrating rather than challenging.
I loved the levels where skill actually mattered though. Those felt fair and rewarding, and I wish there were more of them.

Going in, I fully expected to hate the endurance levels. They’re long, and the final one can wipe out nearly an hour of progress if you die.
Surprisingly?

Time flies by when you really get into the flow, and watching your goo slowly grow and grow feels incredibly satisfying. They give a real sense of progression that the gold medal challenges often don’t.
My hand did get sore sometimes, but breaks are easy thanks to the pause button. Finishing these levels felt genuinely rewarding.

Some achievements were more annoying than expected.
“[i]Italian Dinner[/i]” (eat 100,000 objects) forced me to grind a lot extra after finishing the main game, which got a bit boring, but it wasn’t [i]too[/i] bad.
I did really love the achievement “[b]Simon the Cat[/b]” though. Nice little touch.

Replayability is decent.
There are three different modes, which adds some variety, and I could see myself coming back occasionally for casual play.
That said, once you know what to do, most levels don’t offer much challenge unless you’re chasing gold medals or achievements.

For the price and the time you spent in the game, it's quite fun.
The songs get stale, but they aren't that bad.
The gameplay loop is quite tedious, but the creativity in things to eat and the katamari concept make up for it. It doesn't feel like you are playing a katamari game in the bad way. Not a lot of variety. The puzzle mechanics from the start don't carry over to the end which is a wasted opportunity.
Its cardboard feel makes you feel similar to Little Big Planet, which is comfy.
Fun experience!

A game from our childhood. A very satisfying and short game, where you can easily waste 5-6 hours having fun, it's absolutely worth it. A good and nostalgic game, apart from the fact that the timed medals are super hard to get in some levels because of the crazy amount of objects that need to be eaten. It's a great game and I recommend it! Yum Yum!

Cute game but it's not katamari so if you're chasing that feeling you're not going to find it here. How does it stand on it's own then? Not very good. It is fun for a little bit and can be a game to chill to but every level feels the same. Levels do have some small changes like Bigger enemies are more of an issue eating the little enemies, some enemies 1 shot you, enemies getting better at dodging you when you can eat them, and there are maze levels where you have to eat things in the maze in an order fast to beat the timer.
The main issue is when you're just roaming a X by X grid looking for stuff to wonder on screen and as you get bigger the grid feels smaller and smaller. Every level ends with an empty level as you circle the screen hoping enough stuff comes out to feed on.
I would say this is more a neutral because the game is cheap and a little fun but you have to decide if you'll get enough fun out of the game. The game also isn't fully controller supported so menus have to be done with the mouse.
p.s. I saw a review on one of these games saying this is just a v*re simulator. I can see where that is coming from but outside eating people/animals the same way you eat any other object there's no real hint it is trying to be that. If you don't know what v*re is: it's when someone gets off on the act of being eaten whole or watching someone being eaten whole. There I save you from a horrific google search. If you are into that though I bet you'll enjoy this game.

자기보다 작은 것들을 먹어치우고 크기를 불려나가는과정이 중독성있고 좋네요.
근데 개인적으로 시간 제한은 없는 게 좋았을 것 같습니다. 특히 우주로 가면 맵은 큰데 먹을 게 없어서, 운 나쁘면 실패하는 경우가 있더라고요.

Це одна з най улюблених ігор з мого дитинства. Чесно сказати, я радію що зіграв у гру дитинства, але позитивна думка одразу розвіялася після 3.5 години проходження цієї гри через те, що присутні "недоліки" у грі де дуже набридали або ставало нудно грати, наприклад:
1) Таймер, після закінчення часу ти починаєш грати спочатку, що дуже дивує та підвищує темп проходження гри, що чесно кажучи змушує мене напружитись для проходження рівня;
2) Після того як ти поступово збільшуєшся то великі за тебе об'єкти у самому початку рівня(машини, літаки, живі істоти або те, що рухається) найчастіше припиняють з'являтися, що дуже набридає;
3) Керування дуже різке і більшу частину гри я проходив рівні на клавіатурі, але з цікавості під кінець перейшов на комп'ютерного михайла і базова швидкість мене не влаштовує;
Вище перечислена критика це особисто від мене недоліки до гри і як я вважаю то це не сильно критично для такої гри, або це просто улюблена гра з мого дитинства якій я усе пробачу)

Better play "Tasty Planet: Back for Seconds" by the same developer. It has no connection to that game, but has more balanced experience that that.
Major cons of that game is too much long grind to gain size in some levels. And that you have not too much variable content in the game (although it has more levels than back for seconds), because usually the next level is just the same as previous but with added 1 or more new mobs.
P.S. for perfect game: it will be a long haul to grind all gold medals because of randomness of mobs appearance and of tight time limits in some levels (especially in orbit location)

That is where I would like a "meh" rating option in between. Instead, I have flipped a coin. The premise is fun, starting as a failed experiment and eating the universe. It is somehow very satisfying to just devour everything. But the gameplay could be better. The difficulty jumps between levels are insane. There are some I had to retry countless times and others which are totally chill. The music loops are to short and start getting annoying after a while. So yea, it is fun but also annoying and sometimes frustrating.
A nostalgic classic for me, just a fun and simple experience. Pretty tough to get gold on levels, though. Often comes down to luck.

The hitboxes are a joke, the levels get repetitive and lazy, almost like the devs gave up toward the end of the game. Not to mention the last endurance level which takes like an hour

Абсолютно рандомная дичь.
Начиная в это играть, думал, что легко закрою на 100% ачивок, но не тут-то было.
Пару моментиков изначально вызывали вопросы, но затем выяснилось еще кое-что:
1. сожрать 100 тысяч объектов это, конечно, скучно, но легко, лишь переигрывать уровни и всё
2. Прохождение всех уровней на золото. Не думал, что с этим возникнут трудности, но рандомный спавн предметов... Их может быть много, может быть мало. А вот таймеру на эти проблемы плевать, время идёт как ни в чём не бывало. Закрыл всё на золото, кроме одного уровня в космосе, который и спустя сотню попыток таки прошёлся. УРА!
3. Уровни на вынсливость. Казалось бы, что сложного, ведь даже таймера нет... Зато есть амёбы, дельфины, акулы, просто большие рыбы и так далее, которые, пока ты меньше их, ваншотят тебя. Прошёл я первый за 8 минут, второй за 21 минуту, третий... Нервишки надо восстановить сначала, потом посмотрим.

Восстановил нервишки, закрыл третий уровень на выносливость за 47 минут, а также добил ачивки с поеданием объектов... чтож, это было душно.
Сиквел, ставший для меня игрой детства, выглядит более дружелюбно и адекватно на фоне этого ужаса во всём.
An old classic that many(?) of us played years ago, having been a fan of the series over the years I decided that I would come back and relive some old memories, as well as finally bury the hatchet with the games stupid sequels so I never have to come back again…
Tasty planet is a simple yet satisfying game where you play as a blob of grey goo which is able to grow larger by eating anything smaller than itself. Growing larger then means you can eat even more things and grow even faster, leading to a kind of exponential style of gameplay where most of the challenge is at the start while you are still small, leading to kind of a “victory lap” once you pass a certain size.
It is pretty much like a 2d version of the Katamari games, both in gameplay and humor, which it was most likely inspired by, although I do feel like it is inferior in both aspects. This kind of style appeals to a certain kind of person, and I am definitely the target audience for it! There are many charming attributes to the game, such as the grey goo briefly changing colors depending on what you eat, and each level tallying up all objects eaten. There is also a gallery that shows all objects you have ever eaten and how many of them you have consumed. Lastly there is a simple but pleasant comic story following the goo and its 2 idiot scientist creators.
Playing it again after probably over 10 years, the nostalgia factor is definitely there. Pretty much all the levels were more or less as I had remembered them, which couldn’t be said for the other games in the series. However now that I am no longer a child it is much easier to see the various cracks that lie under the surface. The game was still very much enjoyable, but it’s clear that the problems the series has suffered from where there right from the very start…
The game is comprised of 60 levels, with no bonus levels like its sequels have, instead having 3 “endurance levels” which are about 5-15 times longer than normal levels and much harder. Of the main levels, most of them are basic levels with maybe a few preplaced objects that revolve around you eating various objects/creatures that spawn in from the edges of the screen. Then there are a handful of levels that are mostly/entirely comprised of preplaced objects that are usually eaten in a set order like a puzzle, and finally there are another handful of levels that have a different objective where instead of reaching a certain size you eat a certain amount of a specific object/creature. Generally, most levels are pretty short, ranging from under a minute to around 3 minutes, with a few longer ones towards the end that reach 4-6 minutes long.
The endurance levels are MUCH longer, with the first one being 15 minutes, the second one being around 25-30 and the third one being 45-60. You have to be REALLY patient when playing these because a single mistake could set you right back to the start. It is certainly an interesting experience that definitely has its place in the game, but I wouldn’t recommend playing any of them past the first one.
The game is at its best with the levels full of preplaced objects or set paths for objects/creatures to follow. Unfortunately, there are relatively few of these levels compared to the more standard ones that just have things spawn in from the edges of the screen. Those kinds of levels have their place too, but it would have been nice to have a few more curated levels, especially since you could tell that most of the curated levels were made with genuine care.
Probably the best part of the game is the music, they really nailed it with the music choice in this game. It’s the perfect music to just chill out and devour things to, and I don’t think you could get it better if you tried.
The cracks start to show when it comes to the game’s difficulty. Back when I played as a child, I was too scared of the time limit and just played on casual mode. Playing again as an adult I chose the intended difficulty of normal, where there is a time limit for each level and you also get a medal if you complete it fast enough. The time limit to not fail the level was pretty reasonable for all but one level, and even then, I was still able to complete every level first try. The problem lies within the medal system, with it being brutally hard to get gold or sometimes even silver medals on most stages in the game. Most levels rely in large part on rng to spawn in the things you can eat, and there is little to no margin of error on getting the gold medal even if you play completely perfectly. This issue is exacerbated when there are other creatures that ALSO eat things in the level, even more so if those things can also eat you!
All the medals do is unlock a few cheats, which you wont really have any reason to use as there isn’t much replayability in the game. Nevertheless, it is still pretty frustrating to see your final score upon completing most levels. The rng nature of it also makes it feel unappealing to go back and try and get a better medal. The developers must have a sadistic streak when it came to designing the time limit for each medal. Unfortunately, you cannot unlock medals when using cheats either.
A fairly big strike against this game is the graphical “overhaul” compared to the original version. Several things were changed to be less cartoony and it definitely harmed the goofy yet charming feel of the older graphics. Worst of all however, is they changed the look of the grey goo and the UI to match the look they have in the sequels. This is unforgivable and was a very large disappointment to see upon coming back to the game. Whoever decided that this change was a good idea is a complete idiot. The only area that was actually improved at all were the comic strips at the start of each area, which did indeed benefit from it, although I still think it was overall unnecessary.
Only after completing the game again and doing some more research for this review did I learn that there is an option buried in the settings menu that lets you use the old graphics, and even then, the UI is still changed. The older graphics should have been the default setting but thankfully they didn’t outright lose/remove them. It is easy to miss this setting if you bought the game in the big bundle and didn’t read its description.
The total playtime for this came out to 3.8 hours, but a little under half of that was spent playing through the Endurance mode. It was an enjoyable experience going through it again for nostalgias sake, but the game is only really worth it on discount and I also lost a lot of respect for it after seeing the graphical update.

This game was essentially the Katamari Damacy I grew up with, since I didn't come to grow up with a Nintendo, and instead hung around the internet for too long (and found this game through Newgrounds)
The music in this game only revolves around 3 songs;
- A mexican-jazzy vibes music
- A shibuya-kei vibes song
- A bossa nova vibes track
Can't say it's a trash track. Boring and repetitive, yes, but not to the point where it deserves to be called a bad track. It has an okay soundtrack. That's all.
I think this game has a great potential, only that it's only fulfilled towards the end of the game. The cosmos set of levels has such a great design and gameplay in comparison the previous stages.
100% completing the game might take some time, since most of the level's medals depends on how lucky you are with the spawn RNG. It's quite inconsistent and infuriating at times, but once you get a good run, you have a good chance of finishing with a new medal. (Also now I understand why this game only has an any% speedrun and not a 100%)
Otherwise, it's a great nostalgic predecessor to agar.io. Nothing more, nothing less. It's 6 dollars during sale, and a fun way to spend your time. It's an okay game with an alright story. Cop or not, it's your choice.
grey goo vs the world/10
I played these games on mobile a long time ago, and they still hold up to this day, it's a fun romp that you can just play for fun.
although in some levels getting a gold medal is nigh impossible, not because of your own skill level, but because it dies down to luck and purely luck.
case in point, [spoiler]Orbit 2. There are so many times where i nearly get the gold medal only for the game to not send me a space station, causing me to waste time and lose the level. This is not good game design and i am so glad later entries improve on it[/spoiler]
There are games that are technically brilliant, full of flashy graphics and endless updates—and then there are games like Tasty Planet, which don’t need all that. They just exist in your memory, perfectly preserved, like a warm afternoon after school, your favorite YouTuber on the screen, and nothing else to worry about.
I can’t even begin to describe the amount of joy and nostalgia this game brought rushing back to me. I remember watching my favorite YouTubers back in the day—guys like Thinknoodles, DanTDM, maybe even Markiplier at some point—playing this weirdly satisfying little game where you eat everything in sight. It was so simple, but there was something about it that was just... pure. I’d sit on the couch with snacks, completely zoned in, dreaming of playing it myself someday. I never got bored of watching those videos, and now, years later, getting to actually play it again? It's like I'm a kid all over again.
You start as a microscopic grey goo and gradually consume bigger and bigger objects—dust, bugs, mice, people, cars, planets, galaxies—it’s that same escalating power trip that never stops being satisfying. But what makes Tasty Planet really special to me isn’t just the gameplay (which is still solid, even today), it’s the vibe. The game doesn’t rush you. The music is calm, the art is quirky, and the pacing lets you just exist in that world for a little while. It’s therapeutic. It’s meditative. It’s like ASMR for the soul.
Back then, I didn’t care about graphics or mechanics. I just loved watching this little blob grow and grow and grow until it swallowed the universe. And now, actually doing that myself? There's something oddly beautiful about it. It doesn’t try to be edgy or modern or online—it's just fun, in the most innocent and genuine way.
Playing Tasty Planet in 2025 hits different. Life’s gotten more complicated. But booting this up feels like finding an old toy in a drawer, still working, still magical. I can hear the background music in my head even when I’m not playing. I can remember exactly how I felt watching those Let’s Plays, smiling ear to ear, imagining the chaos of being an unstoppable blob. And now, I’m living it. Again. And it's just as good as I remember—maybe even better, now that I understand how rare it is for a game to stick with you like this.
I don’t care if it’s not the most “modern” game out there. I don’t care if it’s niche or if it never went viral or if people forgot about it. Tasty Planet is timeless to me. It represents a kind of joy and simplicity that’s hard to find now. The chill gameplay, the quirky sense of humor, the way each level just makes you feel more and more powerful—it’s a vibe that hasn’t aged a day.
If you grew up watching gaming YouTube in the early 2010s, this game is like a time machine. If you’ve never played it but love relaxing, satisfying games with a bit of chaos thrown in, do yourself a favor and give it a try. Seriously. This isn’t just nostalgia talking—it’s genuinely a great game to unwind with.
Thank you to the devs for keeping this gem alive. Thank you to the YouTubers who made it a part of my childhood. And thank you to whatever part of my brain stored the memory of this game all these years. I didn’t realize how much I missed it until I played it again.
