The atmosphere and voice acting are both nice. Compared to the first game, the movement feels more intuitive. The puzzles are rather straight forward besides for the last couple of them. You can find the solution by just looking around the room for the most part. The combat is mainly you firing a gun, it overheating, and you hiding behind something. I didn't even expect combat out of a puzzle game, so it was a nice surprise.

Recently got into VR and picked Red Matter 2 based on the reviews.

And they are spot on.

Having played Half Life: Alyx, you will enjoy RM2 as well. The control lay-out is directly inspired by Valve and that's a good thing.

If you want a solid VR experience, this game does not disappoint.

The best VR game I've ever played (so far). Mechanics are great, visuals are great, art style and world building is great. The puzzles require a bit of thinking, sometimes out of the box, but don't pose much of a challenge. "Combat" can be a bit annoying, but is perfectly manageable if you stay in cover. The story line is motivating enough to keep you going, but nothing one hasn't seen/read before. For the complete picture, however, playing Red Matter 1 before this is recommended.
For those averse to horror, especially in VR: The atmosphere is very eerie and perfectly supported by the music, but there are no jump scares and the developers did away with the scare chords used for a few events in Red Matter 1, so kudos for that. While I was on the edge while playing and anxious about the next discovery, it was never enough to require frequent breaks.
I did not have any issues getting the game to work on my Linux VR setup (Proton + ALVR --> Pico 4).

Overall, highly recommended!

This game was a huge disappointment for me. It felt like walking sim with forced puzzles that act more like a “smart” way to stop the player from speed running through the main story line, only two puzzles at the end were interesting. Achievements are mostly automatically received while progressing through the story except two but you can easily get them on the first try. The story was so plain that I was wondering if it was written by a child. You can predict how the story will progress from the first game. Combat felt like a shooting range with moving targets, interaction with the world was just basic for VR. To put it shortly, get it if you don’t have any other title in your whitelist. I played it removed it and forgot about it

I honestly wasn’t expecting much from Red Matter 2, but it has far exceeded my expectations. If you liked Half-Life: Alyx, you’ll probably enjoy this. It has a similar look and feel in terms of atmosphere and puzzle design. I’m playing on a Quest 3 with an RTX 5090, and some of the scenes look almost photorealistic. The lighting and textures are impressive, especially in VR where scale really matters. There are moments where you just stop and look around.

The aesthetic is really strong. The bases have that grounded retro-futuristic look, kind of like The Incredibles but more realistic. When you step outside, the space views are on another level. It genuinely feels like you’re standing above Saturn with its massive rings overhead. Later, looking toward Neptune from one of its moons has the same sense of scale. This isn’t a game you rush through. It’s better when you slow down and take in the details. I’m not finished yet, but am very much looking forward to finishing this upcoming week.

My only real criticism is the character animations. They just don’t look as good as the rest of the game. The environments are so detailed and realistic that the characters don’t quite match that same level visually. I think they might have been better off using stereoscopic 3D recordings of real actors, like in The 7th Guest VR. With visuals this strong, real human performances probably would have blended better with the world and felt more believable.

Wenn es es gäbe, würd ich eine Neutrale Einstufung machen.
Gleich vorweg, zum Vollpreis kann ich es absolut nicht empfehlen. Das Gameplay ist zu Linear, die Rätsel zu einfach und zu offensichtlich und meiner Meinung nach Null Wiederspielwert.
Im Sale kann ich zumindest darüber hinweg sehen. Ich hab etwa 7 Stunden dafür gebraucht. Atmosphäre ist gelungen, aber es fühlt sich mehrheitlich als Walkinsimulator an. Man bekommt zwar irgendwann ein Laserwaffe um Wächterdrohnen auseinander zunehmen, da diese aber null Inteligenz besitzen, wirkt es halt auch nur halbherzig, vermutlich weil es sich die Comminty gewünscht hat.
Wer den ersten Teil mochte, wird hier mit Sicherheit seine freude dran haben und Dem kann ich esempfehlen

Jest jeszcze ładniejsza niż pierwsza część, równie dobrze opowiedziana, zagadki są ciekawe, ale raczej nie zablokujesz się tu nigdzie. Sporo interakcji z obiektami i trochę widoków do podziwiania. W odróżnieniu od pierwszej części - gdzie zagadki są wyłącznie logiczne - tutaj jest też trochę elementów zręcznościowych. Bardzo polecam. Chciałbym żeby powstała trzecia część, bo gra się w to naprawdę wybornie.

пару часов от всего игрового времени просто ходил и делал скрины. игра не только геймплейно затягивает, но и невероятно красива.

головоломки интересные, не сложные, думаю для большинства будет крайне приятно их разгадывать.

сюжет на высокомом уровне, для такой студии это великолепный результат. я бы даже сказал пример, так и нужно делать.

графику я уже вскользь упомянул. да, она прекрасна, оптимизация одна из лучших, уровень халфы. и кстати, говоря про халфу, рэд мэттер понравился мне больше, чем халф лайф алекс.

из минусов это только отсуствие русской локализации. это довольно странно.

в целом на 9.7/10.

Red Matter 2 is a flawed, but ultimately enjoyable experience (for me).

Firstly -- visually it's stunning. It's up there with some of the best PCVR titles out there.

The materials, textures, and set pieces are breathtaking and highly immersive. A+ there.

Secondly, the story is intriguing and definitely keeps you going along. The science fiction elements look so good and there's tons of great little lore/world building here if you slow down and take your time.

The negative to me, surprisingly, were the main puzzle sections.

Some puzzles are incredibly easy. Some are incredibly obtuse and strange or just unwieldy (too many sections relying on flying vehicles remotely, which I always tend to hate).

There were many times where I felt that the pacing was entirely messed up due to being stuck arbitrarily on hard puzzles, and these puzzles weren't in situations where I felt like the momentum of the story would call for it -- such as in-between high tension moments.

Instead, they were often at times where I felt like my character should have more of a sense of urgency, and yet, there I was stumbling about for 30 minutes. It sometimes took me out of the game.

The combat is nothing to write home about, but it's not the main focus of the game and does its job.

Overall, if you want an immersion-first experience, it's worth it for the story + graphics alone.

But it can be a tad frustrating here and there because the puzzles are so inconsistent. They can drag down what is otherwise an excellent game.

7.5/10 for me.

I have not played immersive games with VR beofre so starting with Red Matter 2 was without question a stunning entry into this genre and technology. It delivers a masterfully created experience that was both breathtaking and filled with adventure and a intriguing story line.
The level of detail in every level is astounding and i still get a huge kick from watching the shadow of my robotic hand using the flashlight tool on the left hand.
All that being said i would suggest some tweaks to reduce the onset of nausea during play may be a good idea.
Overall it is thrilling and well worth the spend.

毎日運動としてスタンドアローンでVRゲームをやっていますが、このVRのCGのリアリティーに惚れ惚れします。
まだ、冒頭だけですが、惚れこみました。
ゲーミングノートとPico4を使っていますが、こんなに没入感のある世界を再現できるデバイスのポテンシャルにも驚きました。
Half Life Alyx並みとユーチューブで紹介していましたが、確かにその通りですね。

なにより雰囲気も素晴らしいです。
非常に人気があって有名なのは昔から知っていましたが、パズル系なら別にVRでなくても良いと敬遠していましたが、これはVRを楽しむためのパズルといった感じがします。

Half Life Alyxに並ぶ、VRを持っていたら絶対やるべきゲームです。

Great progress after first game

This time not only visuals and graphics better, but physics feels much more immerse. Controls and objects manipulation much more accurate

I didn't expect it, but there is even combat mechanic. And it doesn't even irritate or frustrate you.

Though the main focus of the game is on interactive puzzles - and they are good. You can't solve them immediately on the spot as with most AAA games nowdays - you have to think a little bit. But not to long - they are perfectly balanced

Juegazo impresionante! Absolutamente todo me ha parecido de un nivel enorme. Las mecánicas, la jugabilidad, e incluso los puzzles que, aún siendo algunos algo más complejos, son super intuitivos. En algunos juegos del estilo acabas mirando algún gameplay porque a veces los puzzles son muy complejos. En este te puedes fiar todo el rato de tu intuición. Los paisajes planetarios son simplemente impresionantes! Parece que estás realmente allí.
Lo recomiendo muchísimo.
Además si sueles marearte con la RV, con este juego no lo vas a sufrir para nada.
Yo he empezado con el 2 porque puedes jugarlos por separado, pero pienso comprar el 1 también sin dudarlo.

Graphics are nowhere the quality of Half Life "Alyx", but some of the visual FX make up for the minimal detail of the textures. Some of the puzzles are quite challenging, leaving you wondering if there is something missing, or a bug in the game, only to stumble across the solution after a while and thinking "Aha! finally found it.."
The combat can get a bit frustrating at times, but staying under cover and patience is the key. I found that aiming the pistol required an odd wrist angle, but that may just be me. I bought the game while on a "Black Friday" sale day, and think I would have felt a little cheated if I had paid full price with the game being a little short. Despite this, it's an enjoyable game with a great story that drives you forward.

Red Matter 2 - это не просто продолжение, это настоящий прорыв.
Игра превзошла первую часть во всем: в масштабе, атмосфере, визуальной детализации и разнообразии геймплея. Мир погружает с первой минуты - каждый уголок лунной базы и волгравийских станций продуман до мелочей, а пейзажи за окном просто завораживают. Головоломки остались интуитивными и приятными, но их стало больше, они интереснее и лучше вписаны в сюжет.

Радует и то, что разработчики добавили новые механики: легкие боевые схватки и хакинг терминалов - все работает плавно и естественно в VR. Игра не перегружает, но дает ощущение полноценного приключения. Прошел ее дважды - и оба раза с большим удовольствием.

Если вы цените атмосферу, продуманный геймплей и качественную реализацию виртуальной реальности - Red Matter 2 обязательна к прохождению!

Вы проникаете на космическую станцию в поисках бывшей подруги. Выясняется, что она еще жива, но на станции никого! И какая-то плоть на стенах. В какой-то момент у меня возникло страшное подозрение. Жаль, что оно не оправдалось. Какой сюжетный поворот был упущен... В остальном игра хорошая. Хорошо сделаны руки, загадки с физикой и удаленным управлением, неплохие перестрелки с укрытиями.

延续了前作的风格，画面依旧惊艳，沉浸式体验感极强
新加入的战斗系统，有的玩家觉得是败笔，我认为还好吧，起码它不算很难，占比也不是很大，除非是VR设备的质量原因，否则一般主角也不会真被那些无人机打死（吧？）。开发者对游戏的定位是很明确的，这个游戏主打的还是解谜，战斗是次要的，没有在解谜与战斗的分配比例上失衡，还是可以接受的。
结尾剧情反转也很有特色，我猜应该也是致敬了《星际穿越》？

Что ж, это, безусловно, одна из самых недооценённых игроками шикарных VR-игр. Я бы сказал эталон, учитывая что вряд-ли у команды был большой бюджет. Отличная графика, что в ПК версии, что в портативе, пример многим другим студиям как нужно делать оптимизацию. Интересный развивающийся сюжет, который затягивает и даже пугает. Всем рекомендуется пройти обе эти части.
Но также жирный минус за отсутствие русской локализации, при том что в игре даже в нескольких местах встречались надписи на русском..

The first game was a fun short demo of a puzzle game. And now the second, explores more of the game's lore and is a longer puzzle-adventure with added combat. Story takes right after the first, while you have a new body to run around in. Story is still kind of hard to follow, one of those who you have to read alot to properly get. The atmosphere is wonderfully creepy. The puzzles are challenging, not annoyingly hard. It looks real nice graphics/environment as a VR game. Real fun series.

To be blunt, I did not like the first game. It suffered from some boring game design and poor design choices that had occurred due to its old age being developed at the beginning of VR. I went into this expecting much of the same, yet I was very much surprised with how much they iterated and improved upon the first.

The puzzles felt quite diverse, and in my opinion a lot more [i]interesting[/i] than the first. Smooth Locomotion was finally normalized, preventing any motion sickness that I suffered from the first game. Additionally, while I'm confident TAA is used (and forced), the "Vaseline effect" from the blurriness that plagued anything further than 3 feet ahead is much better mitigated now. I appreciate the simplistic combat here as well, it helps a lot with the pacing of this game between sections. Finally, I'd like to acknowledge the large amount of small details that this game has, with its item weight simulation, interactability, and quality voice-acting.

The team behind this did a great job and it shows in the quality of their work.

truly a "must play" for vr gamers. I beat this game in mid 2025 and think its just creative and wonderful. One of the few vr games that really saves some of the best stuff to the end. Right behind Skyrim VR with FUS mod, Red Matter 2 is the best VR game I have played to date. It is even better than its predecessor, Red Matter 1 (which is also a fantastic game). The graphical realism, creative story telling and game play are the best available in VR. The puzzles are fun and not too challenging which I appreciate. I put this game above Lone Echo as the premiere VR space game experience and for me personally, I enjoyed it even more than Half Life Alyx (also a top notch VR game). The game ran buttery smooth on my RTX 5070. I hope the developers don't stop producing new games. There are so many VR titles out there, but few match the quality and performance of Red Matter 2. I got it for an absolute bargain of $16 and some change. This title seems to go on sale regularly. Highly recommend.

Realmente disfruté mucho esta pequeña dupla de juegos, se me hizo muy original su ambientación y siento que el universo que han creado da para más entregas, aunque a juzgar por el desenlace dudo que haya un Red Matter 3. Lo unico que no me convenció del todo, fue que el prota tuviera voz en la secuela, no está mal, pero me gustaba que fuese mudo como en el uno, causaba más intriga y tensión lidiar solo con el sonido ambiente y la banda sonora misteriosa. Aún así buenos jueguitos VR!

The Red Matter series is like the Portal series.

The first entry is an enjoyable short puzzle game with a relatively simple story (at least compared to the second game).

The second entry is way longer, is more dialogue heavy, and expands more on the world. It also refines existing mechanics and adds new ones, in this case gun combat.

What i don't like about it are: while there are clever puzzles, some puzzles like figuring out a safe combination are a bit repetitive. Other than that the gun combat is a bit basic, just point and shoot. The first game kinda looked better too.

Despite these negatives it's still a great experience overall.

A decent narrative puzzle adventure game, about the same quality as Red Matter 1. Although this game is twice as long, I think Red Matter 1 was more consistently enjoyable, while RM2 has some stretches that really drag with easy but tedious environmental puzzles and platforming through drab, samey-looking industrial corridors. The gun combat is also as mediocre as it gets in VR and was an unnecessary addition. However, Red Matter 2 definitely has its "high points", most of which revolve around some spectacular visual moments, and the story, while not super memorable, is interesting enough to keep you going through the end.

Light recommendation if you want an atmospheric narrative adventure game and can put up with tedious gameplay at times.

+ Графика, арт, космические пейзажи смотрятся офигенно в VR, эстетика советской фантастики передана великолепно, художнику всяческий респект. Я достаточно много видел космоса в VR, и вот в этой игре на мой взгляд лучше всех передан масштаб космических тел. По мимо головоломок есть стрельба, норм для разнообразия
- сюжет не цепляет, много бестолкового чтива
Конечно, это не шедевр, но к прохождению обязательна )

Una secuela que mejora todo lo bueno del primero. Tiene una atmósfera increíble, graficos muy buenos y un excelente diseño artístico. Hay más exploración, puzles más variados y algo de acción, aunque se puede sentir torpe o frustrante de a ratos.

Es uno de los mejores juegos de VR. Si te gustó el primero, este te va a encantar.

Одна из лучших VR-игр на данный момент. Первая часть была интересной головоломкой, но продолжение стало ещё лучше.
Расширили сюжет, добавили геймплейные фишки, графика и артдизайн всё так же на высоте и выглядит отлично.
Играл через Quest 3 - никаких проблем с управлением и т.п. не было.

Red Matter 2 is one of the best VR games I've had the pleasure of playing. Here's why, broken down into positives and negatives:

Positive:
+ Beautiful graphics that are detailed without being overwhelming
+ Smart hand mechanics, including the familiar scanner and new features like a well-designed weapon, a flashlight-like tool, and more
+ Brilliant game design – it was always exciting to puzzle your way from room to room, eager to see what came next
+ Great music
+ Clever and well-crafted puzzles that give just the right amount of hints without spoiling too much
+ Engaging and suspenseful story
+ Took me about 6 hours to complete
+ A few moments where you get to pilot a small airship to solve puzzles – a fun touch
+ Solid hacking mini-game
+ A really well-implemented jetpack function – always felt intuitive to control and didn't cause motion sickness for me

Negative:
- I just wish it had lasted longer :) But considering the small dev team, the quality is seriously impressive

The quality of this game is insane. This has some of the best visuals and polish that I've seen in a VR game. Very few games can even be compared the HL:A, but I think this game comes very close. The story, atmosphere, mechanics, puzzles, visuals...everything is top-notch. This game has the glassiest looking glass I've ever seen in VR. The IK arms and the polish of things like the interface cable are a super nice touch. I was very, very impressed with this game. None of the puzzles were hand-holdy or hard. I was able to comfortably make it through the game at a steady pace without any help. Each of the environments really drew me in, and I spent my sweet time taking it all in. Well done to the devs, I hope we get more from them.

Really excellent game, VR needs more games like this, really impressive quality pacing and graphics for a first person VR game made by a team of just 5-8 people it seems. Big step up from the first and the puzzles are not extremely difficult but they are consistently fun involved and not too simple. Story was actually very engaging big step up narrative wise from 1. They do a 5 second credit teaser again like 1 but unlike 1 it feels like 2 still has a definitive satisfying ending that is well built up to.. The combat with the literal one gun type and two enemy types was pretty average but thankfully combat made up tiny portion of game. As long as you like puzzles and a good bit of story in your games would highly reccomend trying this game out.

Good continuation of interesting puzzle solving story. This time with action shooter elements. Plot is predictable, but good enough. Graphics is decent, but for good quality you will need to use supersampling. Puzzles are like in previous part well balanced and you can solve them by yourself if you are patient and know how to follow instructions. If you like good VR games - definitely try this one.

An awesome sequel to a great game.
There is a little weapon use, but the developers kindly provided a difficulty setting for players, like me, who are not action/platform players. More kudos!
The game is astonishingly well polished for such a small dev team.
Worked perfectly on my HP Reverb G2 after switching to SteamVR.
