it's a great short experience with interesting dialogue and dynamics, plus a beautiful and trippy atmosphere. i'm a huge fan of long, lore-heavy games and with short ones like these it's fun to try to find those pieces of worldbuilding. it was a fun play.
Probably one of my new top favourites. I'm super into arthouse film and weird/surreal stuff in general, so I really appreciated the visual and auditory design here, props-by-proxy to those behind the music; really funky.

I just love how avant-garde this game is. It's clear there is a lot of lore and worldbuilding is so interesting. Absolutely adore the style / creativity of this series. First saw this game on a Jacob Geller video and was blown away. I love cool environments, especially in games, and this game has one of the best.
Biggest waste of time I've ever played. Gameplay? None. Graphics? Bad. Achievements? Five, one of which is for listening to every random sentence every NPC says, and the rest is for stealing every single item that isn't nailed down (which nobody tries to stop you from doing).

A fun little experiance with excellent vibes.
I'm replaying all the Cosmo D games, and it's interesting going back to this one first and seeing the beginings of the style. This very simple foundation is built on with each subsequent game, creating some really engaging experiences -Assuming you vibe with this kinda style.
It wont be for everyone. Off-Peak is basically a walking simulator set around a bizzare train station. There are conversations to be had or overheard, and a lot varied music. If you like walking around exploring a space, this station has a lot to look at.
It's short, and it's free. No harm in giving it a shot.
If you enjoy it, consider trying The Norwood suit.

この作品は中間的な領域にあるのだとおもいます。一般的なSteamユーザーの需要には合っていません。そこに"ゲーム"を期待するべきではありませんが、別種の体験の濃度をもった作品では、たしかにあります。

recently, me and my partners in crime did a long ass road trip from colorado to california and back and at some point I put on the off peak ost as the sun was setting as we approached the rocky mountains, the vibes was immaculate and utterly terrifying.

A great introduction into the wacky series. Very basic gameplay but the visuals and music are elite.
i shoulddd have four of the six cheevos, beat the game in less than an hour, but enjoyed it the entire way through.

Es más una experiencia con un apartado artístico y sonoro que ya solo por eso hace que merezca la pena darle una oportunidad. Desarrollado por Cosmo D. (el violonchelista del grupo musical Archie Pelago) y lanzado en 2015, es un indie gratuito que no te dejará indiferente.
[h1]Argumento:[/h1]
Aviso: el juego está completamente en inglés. No hay voces y los textos no tienen opción de cambio de idioma, por lo que si no dominas el idioma no te vas a enterar absolutamente de nada.
Te encuentras en una estación de tren de Off-Peak (una estructura masiva que parece una mezcla entre una catedral, un centro comercial y una terminal de trenes). Tu objetivo es simple: salir de allí, pero hay un pequeño problema: no tienes billete. Tendremos que encontrar los pedazos de un billete esparcido por el escenario para poder salir de allí. Podemos hablar con prácticamente todos los personajes que nos encontremos por la estación, o al menos leer sus conversaciones: los diálogos son de lo más extraño y bizarro.
Conforme avancemos, descubriremos que la estación es el dominio de un tal Marcus Peak, un magnate que ha transformado un espacio de tránsito en un templo dedicado a su propio ego y a la explotación de la cultura. El juego utiliza esta búsqueda del billete para mostrarte la tensión entre los artistas que intentan mantener su identidad y un sistema que busca convertir todo talento en una mercancía de lujo.

En cuanto a jugabilidad, tiene mecánicas muy simples: podemos movernos libremente por el escenario con una vista en primera persona, pudiendo interactuar con algunos objetos (la mayoría relacionados con los logros) y dialogar con algunos personajes, pero poco más. El manejo es algo tosco, pero cumple su objetivo. Aquí no hay armas ni enemigos. No podemos morir. Tu único objetivo real es encontrar las piezas de un billete de tren que ha sido despedazado y repartido por toda la estación. Puedes ir a tu ritmo y tomarte todo el tiempo que necesites.
Al final es una presentación muy original de su disco: si te alejas de una zona donde hay un altavoz o un músico, la música cambia, se vuelve más tenue o se mezcla con el sonido de la siguiente área. Explorar el mapa es, en esencia, ir "remezclando" la banda sonora con tus pasos.
[h1]Gráficos:[/h1]
El apartado gráfico es un collage surrealista que mezcla modelos 3D toscos y humanos de aspecto inquietante. Gigantes, gente fea deliberadamente, otros con proporciones surrealistas en un escenario de proporciones gigantescas para hacerte sentir minúsculo, con un diseño arquitectónico exagerado para sumergirte en su mundo que más bien parece una galería de arte moderno en un sueño sin mucho sentido.
Es un estilo excéntrico que encaja perfectamente con el jazz experimental de Archie Pelago, convirtiendo cada escenario en una pieza de arte visual que compensa sus limitaciones técnicas (modelos de poca carga poligonal, baja distancia de representación, animaciones robóticas) con una identidad única que te hará pararte a cada rato y admirar su apartado artístico.
Eso sí, el juego está muy mal optimizado. No me ha ido lento, pero tampoco lo fluido que debería teniendo en cuenta su apartado gráfico y que lo he jugado en un ordenador de gama alta.

El sonido es casi inexistente, lo que sí nos acompañará durante esta breve experiencia es la música, que es extremadamente buena (compuesta por Archie Pelago), totalmente acorde con la estética y temática del juego. Ya solo por la BSO merece la pena darle una oportunidad al juego. Toda la música se compuso específicamente para el juego, que se siente casi como un "video musical interactivo" para su álbum homónimo.

No es un juego para todo el mundo, pero sí lo recomendaría a aquellos a los que les gusta el arte y probar cosas distintas a lo habitual. Eso sí, si el hecho de que esté completamente en inglés no te supone un problema. Si buscas retos, te decepcionará totalmente. For a game I've 100%'d twice in less than 1 hour of playtime, I love Off-Peak from the depths of my heart. You will too, if you go in with an open mind.
I’ll start by saying that I consider Betrayal At Club Low a brilliant game, a solid 9, and I’m extremely excited for Cosmo D’s next project, Moves of the Diamond Hand. Precisely because I’m a fan, I went back to revisit his earlier works, but honestly, this one, in my opinion, can hardly even be called a “game.” There’s no real gameplay mechanic here at all. To me, it feels more like a developer tech demo. Since it’s free, it doesn’t really make sense to be overly critical. Still, for anyone checking it out with the same expectations I had, you can trust me and simply skip this one.
If you're a fan of David Lynch then you'll most likely love this game. It packs a punch and will stick with you for years. I found this game years ago when it was their only game and have played everything they've released since.

i admire the brainwires of the people who made this epic monstrosity of a game. could listen to the soundtrack for the rest of my life. peak character design and great dialogues. whole game kind of feels like derealisation to me which in a way resembles most days of my life.

Great surrealist and dreamlike 20 mins game. Plays like a really great short story that could easily be expanded into a full game with a few more mechanics. The music deserves special attention as well. It utterly slaps. Each little area has its own unique music and atmospheric effects and it works incredbly well.
If you are interested in making games at all (and even if you are just interested in games as art) this is an absolute must. It should be a mandatory games 101 cirriculum content. It shows how games as an artform is quite unique from otrher mediums. Thanks for making this devs.

This little game takes maybe 30 minutes to an hour and the entire time it feels like a fever dream. Abstract art all around coupled with NPCs that feel dreamlike in a nonsensival way makes this little adventure not for everyone as there's nothing a scrap of combat, but it's free and a decent way to spend an hour of your day

You know the game will be good when upon launch the environment tells you that due to suspension of the city-wide subway, one of the recommended mode of transportation is swimming or a swim ring.
Off-Peak is a fantastic, geeky, artsy, musical, atmospheric and almost a collage of a game, with incredible microdetails.
The deep jazz-house OST by Archie Pelago is brilliantly slapped onto each section of the game.
Cosmo never fails do deliver.
If you're someone like me who likes weird stuff just for the sake of weird stuff, this is a fine experience.

I've been aware of Off-Peak and Cosmo D for some time now, and I remember first seeing Off-Peak and being totally mesmerized. The game itself is rather short, and if you ignore all of the interesting things about it, could probably be completed in a matter of minutes. The real meat here is the tone, the atmosphere, the music, and the hard-to-describe feeling of wanting to be lost in this place, if for no other reason than to explore. There is a lot going on visually, and it can sometimes feel a little overwhelming and haphazard, but that, I think, lends to the charm that this game does offer. I want to be able to visit this train station. I want to be able to sit at the ramen counter and wax poetic with the chef. I want to be able to relax and play a board game at the bar. These weird, artistic spaces are fleeting at best in the real world, and I think this game serves as a sort of virtual haven for people that long for the same type of experience and environment. That style has only become more refined and more pointed with Cosmo D's further games, so if you're a fan of excellent music and a game that's more about the vibes than the gameplay, absolutely give this (and the rest of his games) a try.
This game is like ending up in Limbo after passing away, but you discover that's a pretty chill place where everyone plays board games all the time while jazzy tunes seem to play constantly in the background. A surreal walking sim worth experiencing. Even if you have no interest in the game after reading this, you should still look into the soundtrack. It's what ties the whole thing together.
"Off-Peak" is a pretentious, badly made "more art than game" "experience", an aimless walking sim where you explore a single, giant area with multiple secret passageways filled with a mish-mash of mismatched, low quality game assets. You can choose to interact with some stuff to get some poorly made narrative while ear bleedingly awful "music" assaults you (seriously the music is worse than the "game" here).
Here's another case where Itch failed. They have like, ONE job... to act as containment to prevent poorly made amateur shovelware from leaking out onto platforms where gamers might see them and lose hope in the gaming industry. But here we are. The participation trophies and hi-5's from the group hug weren't enough and some of the amateur drivel they're supposed to protect us from got out.
The game is quite short, and can be run through in just 20 minutes. The lack of content here makes it hard to suggest it's worth spending the time to add to your library and download.
The game is really simple and unambitious in terms of implementation, more of a tech demo or one of those cases where an amateur developer spends $100 to publish something on Steam Direct to see if it's possible. Yes, obviously it's possible. A proof of concept, tech demo, or something that's less than a little blip on the radar isn't offering anything truly valuable to gamers.
I'm not sure if this is an asset flip, but it's one of those cases where the assets just look much better than the rest of the quality of the game... a glaring inconsistency. There's no evidence, but as always, the biggest problem with asset flips besides the plagiarism is the deplorably low quality of the other aspects of the game, and even if the game assets are genuinely created for the game, the quality of the rest of the game is indistinguishable from that of asset flips.
This game is fairly dated at 9 years old... and even back then it looked old and busted compared to contemporary, professionally made 3D games of the same period. It looked bad then, it looks worse now.
Now on to pricing and value for gamers.
Most "free" games on Steam aren't really free. There's usually some kind of monetisation, from nasty mobile app cash shops, or content locked behind DLC, or donations being requested, to any other number of shady pricing schemes that could mislead gamers, but in this case I'm glad to say this really does appear to be a fully free game.
Nothing demonstrates a developers belief in themselves and their work than giving it away without any remuneration. This is a service to themselves, and the gaming industry, and should be applauded. Of course, just because something is free, doesn't necessarily mean it's valuable, or something you might want to spend your time on.
In terms of public reception, this failed. There's well over 130 million gamers on Steam. SteamDB showed the game peaked at less than 100 concurrent players, they couldn't even break three figures, and now there's basically nobody playing it. Even though it's free. This is a dismal public reception, but it's easy to see why gamers rejected it.
Bearing in mind that free games don't add +1 to your game collector count, should you bother adding this to your library and downloading it? What's the verdict?
I think you should give this one a miss. Although it's free, your time and storage are valuable resources, and the market is filled with superior options.

The music is the obvious highlight, the jazz really fits with the absurdist world.
The world is interesting to look at and explore, it feels like a dream that you can walk around in.
Certainly more of a one and done kind of experience but it feels more like walking into an art piece than playing a game, highly recommend.

Off-Peak is intriguing. It's set in a massive train station, or really, a train station with one massive room and a few smaller offshoots. I've played through it twice, so far: once, taking my time, talking and listening to as many people hanging around as I could find. Then I played it again, running through as quickly as possible and only collecting the handful of essential items. Both experiences were interesting. The first let me really soak in the vibes of its soundtrack and its large artworks and spaces, together with the hints of strangeness in dialog about the larger setting. The second let me experience the simplicity of the space and the game's underlying skeleton. This is a game for the curious and it makes me look forward to further explorations of Cosmo D's creations.

Best free short game i've played in a very long time. Very interesting style
I really enjoyed this game. It's short, but that works in its favour to establish its world with intrigue, personality, and secrets. The vibes are immaculate: everything feels off-kilter, like nothing is quite right, which leads to it having an incredibly eerie, but not spooky, atmosphere.
