i think its poor form to do the "make the new (paid) item overpowered with zero counter play and then nerf it later once its had time to proliferate" on a game that exists purely off the good will of its dedicated and very forgiving community. play mechwarrior living legends, it'll be on steam soon.

this is in reference to the new arrow 4, a staple of battletech. in this game, it locks just as fast as any other missile, does massive damage, cant be dodged, AMS doesn't do enough damage to destroy even ONE... and the way skills work, many missile boats can maintain a lock on you for like 5 seconds after you break line of sight, even if you activate stealth armor.

i really cant emphasize enough how insane it is that AMS does nothing. this is THE counter to missiles. every other missile goes from being "competitive in its niche" to "generally bad and ineffectual" the moment it's used against someone with AMS. not only are the AIVs more powerful than conventional LRMs, they also aren't countered by The Missile Counter Item.

it is true that AIVs have a much longer minimum range than traditional LRMs (90m vs 270m) but this really is not relevant during the early and mid game for pilots that are not making massive mistakes. as a line fighter (the vast majority of mechs), getting locked for long enough with an enemy AIV on the field will result in your armor being thrashed, and by the time the first missile comes in, it doesn't matter because the enemy can keep their lock after you return to concealment for SO LONG. it's also worth noting that AIVs appear to have a taller ballistic arc, so they tend to get blocked by terrain alot less, which is a huge balancing factor that LRMs have to deal with that AIVs do not.

lets look at just PART of how mechwarrior living legends handles this. AIVs take much longer to lock AND require line of sight, just like all other guided missiles in MWLL. this makes fighting an AIV equipped unit much more fair, as the only way they'll hit you without staring at you forever is if their ally NARCs or TAGs you, which is of course when missiles kinda deserve to be overpowered.

mech combat game for teamplayers and those who enjoy engineering sandboxes, based on the battletech franchise.
lots of guides from lots of different sources.
mechs in 4 different weight classes from 20 to 100 tons for snipers, artillerists, brawlers, scouts, stealths, flamers, machine gun maniacs, missile boat enjoyers, cannon connoisseurs, laser lovers and lightning casters.
sadly no actual melee options for fist fights, swords, hammers or axes, so occasionally running a mech over if its legs are weak will be everything in that regard.
distances in battle can range from as close as 90 meters up to over 2,000 meters, depending on your options and choices.
the most polite and friendly people with the most cooperative sense for teamplay are found in the lower player skill tiers.
personally, i rarely even used the steam launcher, only when my normal launcher didn't function properly, which almost never happened and got fixed fast every time.

The best mech combat game that I have ever played. It consistently gets updates, has a mostly active (but somewhat small) player base, and is just fun to play. The world is full of lore akin to Warhammer 40k, spanning multiple eons of conflict. There are hundreds of unique Battlemechs to choose from, and over a thousand variants total, allowing you to pick whatever suits your playstyle. This game is amazing, and would benefit from more people playing it!

I came into this game less than a year ago and its become my favorite online game. I wish I'd been playing since the beginning. The game does a fairly good job of matchmaking into the different tiers so beginners aren't getting absolutely stomped. Though be forewarned the game has a learning curve and an extremely high skill ceiling if you want to put the time in. Its literally the friendliest community of players in any online game I've encountered (a few still suck as it does involve humans after all). Folks will teach you how to play and give you advice pretty freely. I really want this game to continue being supported so anyone reading this review and interested in giving it a try feel free to add me in game with my Steam name. I'm a Tier 1 player and more than happy to help folks out learning the game and will play with folks of any skill level. The game does have new Mechs that are released for actual money but absolutely everything is eventually available to buy for currency earned simply by playing the game. I never felt out gunned simply playing the Mechs you get with C-Bills (the common in game currency). The game has a fully fledged Mech building system for those who want to delve into it. A full 1/4 of my play time is spent brewing Mechs and trying to break them for my playstyle. We still see frequent content releases with new Mechs and weapons added as well as event several times a year that give away legendary Mechs and other cosmetics. The game will run on damn near anything and is free so hop in and join us on the battlefield! :)

Before I really start, I want to say I have had literally thousands of hours of fun with this game. From the cool hero mechs, to the fun crazy builds you can do.

Sadly the game around 2022 started to lose their way. Instead of putting money into the engine, or new maps, or new mechs.... They focused on Champion hero mechs with their own individual paint job, stats, and.... battle pass. All of which are just reskins.
Cockpit items used to be core, and fun to unlock, and add to mechs, but now everything is copy pasted reskinned items. Nothing is original.

The devs went for the money, and sadly its killed the game. We went from a couple thousand online during a weekend, to less than 400. Making matches a wait to get into, and you end up playing with the same DoD faking snowflakes. You will get constantly bombarded with trans, and gay propaganda, and if you ask them to keep the chat on the game you are labeled a phobe/ist of very kind. You can mute them, but the game doesnt save that you muted them.... so since you are always fighting the same folks you end up having to re mute the same people over and over.
You can also report, but sadly what ever devs are left working here are also just activists, because lets face it they arent developers anymore... more like Help desk to ensure the server stays up and you can pay for the next hero...

2023 into 2024 I was hopeful.... they had started to bring in more BT weapons, and even made a new map.... the map sucks... its still a huge graphical mess, and has shader issues out the wazoo. Sadly ever since they are just trying to keep the lights on to squez cent they can out of the 347 people that still play.

After 1111 hours I am truly saddened that this game is as good as dead. I hope and pray they can turn it around, but the Devs either do not care, or do not know what to do.

Hadn't played in over 10 years, but started again with a friend and enjoying it. Like most group content and strategy games, better with friends for better coordination, teamwork, and fun. Random groups are a mixed bag. If you like previous iterations of Mechwarrior and Battletech styled games you will enjoy. The customization is nice, you can tear down and build mechs to fit your playstyle or to better support your friends in a lance.

my experience lately is like a P2W heavy game.

i dont get why it shouldnt be but it feels like it.

here is what i experience; i sneak up on someone from behind; open up with double rotator, pulse lasers, the work; keep heat managed; keep aim around center while we rotated (upgraded rotation and rotation speed, so aim is solid on it).
they overheat go into shutdown, i focus what i assume is the face+-; they come up again; they start fighting back and within 6 seconds i explode from torso dmg (i max armour etc. and keep front towards targets)...

numbers done off dmg afterwards; me like 270dmg, them 400ish dmg;
me hitting them from back with 4 specialized dps weapons, running in circles after for like 20 seconds, while they been shutdown once due to mismanagement off heat;
then they wake up and 6 seconds later puff i die from torso dmg....

it feels like those hardcore p2w games; no matter how i built, or what i bring, or how i attack, flank, ambush, etc. i do trash dmg, and it seems so many others just kills me in2-6 seconds on any class....

it's become quite tiresome.. the first 50 hours i expected i just sucked and have tried to compensated.. i feel like i tried most now and still get this feeling; so its about time to give up;
it just very much suck that it need to be like that... don't get it, other then just having perfect aim, i dont see why or how the difference in dps output/intake is so absolutely wild in difference...

It's a really in-depth game. I personally am majorly into the Mechwarrior universe and lore, and this game is a little overwhelming for me. But that's just my own opinion based on my personal experience. I'm not saying it's bad because of that. This is a case of, "It's not the game, it's just me."

Overall, though, it's a really fun game. No limit to customization or builds you can create for your mech, and a wide variety of maps to play on, friendly community and overall a good time. I'd say more if I could but well I not smort enough to understand most of the game besides gear up, go out, blast mechs, don't die.

Watched some MWO Youtube vids and tried to load this up after years away, and with a large monitor the game is essentially unplayable. The UI and all menus are so small as to be illegible.

Feels like something that should be addressable if the devs had the desire to do so.

FIGHT GOOD; DONT SUCK!
That's all you can do, this game is 13 years old in September and while it is maintained, the game is dying. I've gone through my tutorials, I've earned my wings so to speak by completing my 25+ matches, and I've even been in a unit by this point.

I haven't been able to get into a faction fight though despite waiting hours in queues, but I can usually always get into a quickplay match.

MWO might be an older game, but it is still fun to get on and play. Lots of pew pew action - fighting other players means that you're never going to get the same 'bots' twice.
Best recommended for people who don't blindly run in to be the first to get shot - but hey, if you want to draw fire and distract the enemy for the 5 seconds you can still participate, I won't complain too much!

I hate to have to login every time I open the game because for some reason it keeps logging me out after I exit the game, but I never mark the checkbox that says "Logout".

What's worse is that this is yet another PAY TO WIN game.

If you are tired with the world and the fact most games are just not cool, MWO still gives that tactical squad based and skill based gameplay of all those games that have fallen since 2012 or so where you are actually satisfied you had an impact on the matches you have played, The community is fantastic as most are 30+ and most matches are kinda laid back, this is assisted by a long TTK because mechs and knowledge goes a far way in understanding what you should do or how you want to play your matches.

I did play this back in beta back in the day and never put enough time into it, but its like going back in time to when games were good and understood what they are.

This is an excellent tactical mech game with diverse customization and gritty PVP combat. It is a slower paced strategic and tactical shooter that may not appeal to everyone at first, but if you really give it a try I guarantee you will be hooked if you like mechs with PVP combat and gritty challenging mechanics. There are a ton of mechs and a ton of customization options. Oh, AND its free so just give it a try, the community is pretty chill :)

Fantastic game! Mechs can be customized with many different load outs per chassis. Lots of maps to play in the Quick Que with 12v12 players. Lots of fun. Initial game play is a little challenging while you learn to pilot your Mech, but after that it's lots of fun. And unlike COD and many other online games, I've seen little if any cheating in this game. The player base pretty much keeps that stomped out.

Insane customizability, diversity, and not P2W or even P2P. A remnant of another era, where F2P games weren't trying to milk you for cash. It's well balanced too, with consistent updates that both rework existing mechs and occasionally add in new ones. The team behind it is very devoted, and the community is very friendly.

When this was new and fresh the game was great. Mechs were stompy, ttk was high making them feel like there was some actual armor and weight on them, and high damage alpha strikes were more of a fun gimmick than the stright meta. The game was good all the way up to the beginning of clans but somewhere between then and now PGI really screwed up. Player count is at an ATL and even the tankiest mech gets melted instantly. It just isn't fun anymore.

Mech customization allows you to make interesting builds, fighting other players is fun and there is lots of mechs to use. However you sometimes get curb stomped by the enemy team and the match finding times can take a while, also don't use all your money immediately, use the trial mechs until you find the one you like, then buy it.

Edit: They made Arrow IV overpowered, If you are running a light mech you will get one shot, you can't even shoot them down with 4 AMSs. I can not recomend playing this game.

CryEngine is truly Slopreal-5 of 201Xs, "you need to upgrade your CPU to higrade I7 for 2013 vidya game"
Nvidia splash screen makes things 200% funnier considering GPU power dont really matter in MWO.
Game has weird rendering issues with moving objects and zoom, running light mech will usually look like a bunch of "watery jiggly pixels" in your advanced zoom window, with fps dropped to 24.
On the other side, despite being an F2P game MWO is a true tactical shooter, teamwork and communication is central element of the game, mindless killchasing will lead you to nowhere.
Community is very friendly and positive, zero toxic edgelords, only chill 35-50 y.o dudes with crusty microphones older than me.
Oh, and the cockpits. I cant describe how good they look and feel. One needs to experience this themselves.
Despite abysmal optimisation that sometimes renders game unplayable, I will defiantly revisit MWO from time to time, the battletech charm is just irresistible.

Good mech combat, lots of room for trying out different builds. Not p2w, easy to earn money to buy just about everything. Many in game events that are easy to complete and earn good rewards including hero variant mechs etc. OVERALL A GOOD GAME FROM WHAT APPEARS TO BE A GOOD COMPANY that is true to the mechwarrior franchise.

To celebrate my 666 hour in this game: Just a great game. It still catches me after even hundreds of hours. Each match is thrilling and I still learn the finer details of the game. I love it!

If you like slower paced strategic first person shooters that involve giant mechs with lasers and missile launchers etc. presented in a vaugely simulatorish fashion (rather than pure arcade) then this is probably the best example of that sort of thing you'll find. Multiplayer only.
