アクションゲームとしては非常に面白い作品。
ボスで何度も死んでやり直すタイプのゲームではなく、難易度は高くない。
そしてステージ数とパズルのバリエーションが多く、さまざまなギミックを解いていくのはとても楽しかった。
特にボス戦は、操作テクニックよりも「どうすれば倒せるか」のギミックを解かないと勝てないタイプで、アクションよりもパズル性のほうが高い作品だと感じる。
グラフィックについても見た通り、こだわりというか執念を感じる美グラ。

一方でストーリーとキャラクターは壊滅的に合わなかった。
ストーリーは、ポップなキャラのイメージからは遠いキリスト教終末的世界観ベースにあり、会話が難解（そうに見えるが、それっぽいワードが混ざるだけで、あまり奥深さも感じられなかった）。

そしてキャラクターはほぼ全員、とても動物的で独りよがりなタイプばかり。
基本的に相手の話を真正面から返さないので対話が成立しないし、自分のしたいことしかしない、人の話を力で遮って勝手に突っ走る、かと思えば俺ってこんな辛い過去なんだぜ自慢ばかりで、全く共感できなかった。

本作の主人公はいわゆる「一言も話さない系」女子で、こういうキャラの場合、プレイヤーが主人公に感情移入する余地を残すという演出でもあり、まあ有る有るではある
しかし本作では仲間の静止を振り切って勝手にボスに乗り込んだりするし、自分の分身という感じは全く無く、黙って勝手に行動する迷惑なやつなんだ。ホウレンソウは大事だよ？

それから、キャラクターの精神的な成長・・・？
まあ幼稚園児が母親に怒られてしおらしくなる程度の変化はあったか。成長かなぁ？
人間の精神的な成長は、迷いとか後悔を前提としてそれを乗り越える段階を通過することで成長が感じられると思っているのだけど、本作のキャラはそもそも迷いとかあんまりなさそう（そういう演出だろう）だから、成長というよりは例えば破滅的願望が成就していくとかのステージが進んでいく感じを成長と錯覚しているだけなんじゃないかと感じる。
何を言ってるかわからないと思うけど、本編のストーリーもこういうふわとした抽象文が大半ですよ、というところ。
ストーリーや構成を重視する人には、全くオススメできません。

i've not finished it yet but my thoughts at the moment are.

it has just about everything I loved about Crosscode. great pixel-art visuals, great puzzle-platforming dungeons, a heart-felt and tragic story with a complex cast, enemies and bosses that feel more like riddles than skill checks, bumping music and so so colorful. But it's also a light Metroidvania which adds a bit more spice to the sense of progression. Ladders do suck though. Worst ladders I have encountered in a videogame. The ones in Blasphemous are better somehow.

Se tem um jogo que que exala carisma e melancolia ao mesmo tempo é esse jogo, infelizmente não tem uma tradução em PT-BR oficial, mas se você tem uma boa noção de inglês é bem tranquilo entender a história, que é simplesmente fenomenal. O grande forte desse jogo é definitivamente a humanização dos personagens, as atitudes que eles tomam e o desenvolvimento deles, é um metroidvania com uma narrativa de outro mundo, coisa que não vejo a cada esquina por aí, se não se convenceu ainda vou te dizer alguns elementos do jogo sem dar grandes spoilers, tem um pessoal que tem um fanatismo religioso aí que regula absolutamente tudo, até quem pode ou não trabalhar, e você não tem licença pra trabalhar como mecânica mas você faz mesmo assim porque gosta de ajudar os outros, tudo gira em torno de um controle social bem estabelecido, culpa e responsabilidade por parte de decisões que sua personagem e outros amigos seus tomam, nem tudo é preto no branco, não tem mocinho e vilão certo, é só um monte de gente seguindo seus ídolos ou fazendo o que bem entende apesar dos riscos.

Vale mencionar que Iconoclasts é um jogo feito majoritariamente por uma ÚNICA pessoa, o que fez com que demorasse uns 7 anos pra ser feito, eu fico meio triste por saber que, apesar da repercussão geral do jogo ter sido positiva, não ter feito um grande sucesso, pois ele merecia sim ser uma referência no gênero de metroidvania, a qualidade do jogo é impecável, a jogabilidade é fluída e fácil de entender sem contar que esse jogo é um charme, o cara que fez esse jogo é brabo demais, investiu 7 anos da vida dele nesse jogo e entregou uma das melhores experiências que já tive com metroidvanias, merecia mais reconhecimento.

まず、メガドラ風16bitのドットアニメーションの豊富さを賞賛したい。
ディテールの端々から、作者のただ事ではないドット愛がうかがえるが、ゲーム性においても非凡な出来を見せてくれる。
とりわけボス戦は見事の一言に尽きる。試行を重ねればノーダメで突破できる設計であり、その上演出もひたすら冴え渡るため、プレイヤーにはいずれかのボス戦が確実に記憶に刻まれるであろう。
アクションゲームのボス戦はタイマン構図が通例だが、このゲームでは仲間と共闘するボス戦が数多く見られる。
仲間の援護を経ての自キャラの攻勢、自分の行動を引き継いだ仲間による一撃など、ユニークなひねりが要所で設けられ、効果的に機能している。
これらによる画面のにぎやかさとゲーム的盛り上がりが、プレイヤーにすさまじく強烈な印象を残すのだ。
マザー戦では味方３キャラとボスが入り乱れ死闘を繰り広げる、まさにこのゲームの華といっても過言ではない（「あたしの大地の一撃を喰らいな！」）。

しかしながら道中、エリアを突き進むパートにはあまり楽しさを見出だせなかった。
ギミックにしてももっと作り込めたのではないか。
ギミックの種類は多彩なのだけど、印象深いものがあまりなく、突破するのにも若干作業感がぬぐえないといった次第。
位置入れ替えビームの仕掛けはかなり良かったのでもっとほしかった、後半に解禁されるものなのでこれはもう仕方ないのだけど。
あと探索要素は無しにしてステージクリア型一点でよかったと思う。

ストーリーについてはかなりの評判であるが、アクションゲームらしからぬ膨大なテキスト量は考えもの。
キャラ描写も兼ねたセリフの数々は非常に美味ではあるが、会話のワンストロークがやけに長い。
エゴ丸出しのキャラたちは賛否両論あるだろうが、ある意味彼らのおかげで沈黙の主人公ロビンの善性が際立つ。
個人的にここは"話せる"主人公にして、なぜそうまでして人助けをするのかロビン自身の哲学を直に聞いてみたかったところ。
ところでラスト付近、ロビンの別の姿が拝めるのだが、あまりにも可愛すぎるのでそのままでいて～！
と思った矢先そのシーンの意図を受けとると、まあまあ居心地悪くさせられます(泣)
私も芯のほうではロビンの親父と一緒なのかな……。

いろいろ言ったけどオススメ。秀逸なボス戦と丹精込められたドットビジュアルで十分元がとれます。
通常の一週目よりチャレンジモードの二週目が破格に楽しかった。

第一次玩是在一个有很多游戏的掌机上，掌机叫啥我已经记不清了。但我很清楚的记得这个很可爱的Q版金发女角色，q版角色的动作设计以及玩法(虽然客观来说很普遍)吸引我。可惜的是我当时没记住这款游戏的名字。我一直在通过关键词来寻找，直到真正找到这里。内心的激动难遏制购买的心情，我立即购买并且下载游玩。对我而言这款游戏是我曾经无法忘记的时光，是那段无聊的日子里的唯一慰藉，所以我想给这款游戏打个5⭐。
但总体说实话，真实游玩下来可能面临不知道往哪走以及靠北的攻击判定所带来的困惑，以及有一关双角色配合通关的boss非常难打。游戏内的指示很少(个人游玩体感)，有时候你看着地图打圈圈都不知道该干嘛，我印象比较深的就是沙漠图，以及下一关的海底基地图。

Очень интересный экшен-платформер с элементами метроидвании.

Игра очень авторская (соло-разработка) и своеобразная, так что будьте готовы к постоянному обману ожиданий и разрывам шаблона. Учитывая визуал и то как устроен вступительный уровень, я например никак не ожидал, к чему всё в итоге придёт. Сюжет не просто есть, он тут с позволения сказать УБОЙНЫЙ, с кучей диалогов и лора. Локации не очень большие, и вся карта мира не то что бы огромная, но бэктрекинг тут такой неприятный, а карта настолько не интуитивная, что по итогу я пропустил двух опциональных боссов и половину апгрейдов, толку от которых на нормальной сложности я не заметил.

Участвуй в разработке хотя бы ещё пара человек, думаю можно было бы и карту лучше продумать, и сценарий получше вычитать и геймплей допилить до конфетки. 7/10, но очень запоминающиеся 7/10.

Having the metroidvania tag on this game is probably doing the game a disservice. Yes, you can technically go back and get things from old locations but it's never necessary and the reward for doing so is extremely small. The game is more of an action platformer. Even that gets old. You pretty much fight the same enemies with the same set of abilities for most of the game. The story drags on and on. I think if they had cut a couple acts of the story to make everything feel more fresh, it would be more fun. The story is pretty odd and wasn't very interesting to me. There wasn't really a single character that I liked or cared about. Overall, it's just a slog of a game.

On the plus side, the controls are solid and the graphics are nice for what they are.

看起来好像是个银河城类的平台动作游戏，
实际上个解谜游戏，从开图到打Boss基本都是解谜玩法，而且大部分是要卡时间的动态谜题。
战斗没什么正反馈，也缺乏成就感。
引导方面也有点模糊，如果隔了一段时间没玩，很容易接不上（而解谜为主的游戏总是有卡关的可能性）。
剧情方面只能说一般，纠结在小事上的矫情情节有点多，新引入的术语概念很多，又没有充分的铺垫和解说。

如果你是被画面吸引进来，并且能接受解谜为主的玩法，那可以试一试。否则不太建议入手。

A perfectly competent 2D sidescrolling action platformer with a sprinkling of puzzle and light metroidvania elements.

Alas, competent is [i]all[/i] it is, as while the presentation and overall mechanics are perfectly servicable, the sense of progression is lacking, and a few of the game's key features smack of missed potential. By far the most interesting facet of the game is its plot, but this alone isn't enough to elevate the rest of the package beyond its genre peers.

I do love metroidvania and Iconoclast is surely a really good game in this genre, not perfect and we will get to that but still a really solid game nonetheless, one of the best aspects of this game if not the best is the story that goes pretty dark, pretty fast from a story about a mechanic named robin that want to help people even if they don't want it because she's not part of the cult religion government to pretty much everything goes wrong and she's now the only one that can stop the world to being destroyed, it's intense and deep i do love the characters and their development through out the story I really enjoyed a lot.
The gameplay is a classic metroidvania stuff you explore, you get upgrade and get to explore more, it's simple but here I think it's too simple, sure the upgrades are good and I do love the new ways to explore that the game has but, the exploration it's not that interesting, sure the map it's not that big but even if you want to explore there's not a lot to find, sure you can find materials to use to craft tweaks that they are small upgrades that you can loose (momentarily) when you get hit but those tweaks except for some they are not that great, I think after I while I didn't touch the tweaks until the end of the game, the boss fights are really solid, most of them are easy but a lot of them are interesting way to get them, maybe one it's a tag team fight or another is a stealth boss fight where the boss is invisible and you need to sneak around it to hit it, they are fun, most of them at least but in the end it's a really tight game but unfortunately I think it lacks something.
One other aspects of this game that is stunning is the graphics, i played a lot of pixels art games but this one is impressive, fluid animation colorful scenario with lots of details and great variety of enemies designs, this game is really good looking and the soundtrack is good as the graphics.
Like I said before iconoclast is a really tight game: solid story, gameplay that it's great but it can be more and a really solid graphics and sound compartment, so if you're in for a really good story and a fun metroidvania this game is for you.

Despues de 2.5 horas y 23% del juego, no es mi tipo de "metroidvania", me encanta este genero, pero este juego tiene algunos problemas:

-Aun no desbloqueo un TP para volver a zonas anteriores (si es que existe), algo fundamental para un metroidvania
-Es un juego muy lineal, no hay mucho espacio para la exploracion
-La mayoria de los objetos coleccionables y las "mejoras" que puedes comprar, son inutiles
-Me sorprende no encontrar algun doble salto, dash, escalada u otra habilidad tipica de metroidvania que te facilite el movimiento
-Es extraño, pero creo que este juego esta muy orgulloso de que puedas agarrarte de los bordes cuando saltas, porque se usa constantemente y parece como si el juego estuviese diseñado para eso, no habria un problema con eso, si es que la animacion de agarrarse al borde fuese mas rapida o no tengas que usarla contantemente
-Los enemigos son inutiles, no te obtienes ningun beneficio al matarlo, podria haberse implementado un sistema de dinero o experiencia, pero los enemigos son basicamente una molestia que puedes evitar o matar si no los puedes evitar

Algunos puntos buenos
-El mejor punto de este juego es la historia, o al menos eso dicen las reviews que vi, porque yo salte toda la historia
-El arte es muy bonito
-Tiene algunos puzzles interesantes
-Tiene bastantes peleas con jefes, no es tan simple como ir y dispararle, debes entender cual es la debilidad del jefe antes de golpearlo

Das Spiel ist ein Hammer!!!

Es bietet alles was man sich nur wünschen kann.

-Eine tolle Steuerung die präzise und butterweich ist.
-Eine tolle Retro-Pixel-Grafik.
-Eine klasse Musik und Sounds die nie nerven und nicht langweilig werden.
-Schöne Action.
-Tolle Puzzle die fordern.
-Eine schöne Geschichte die klasse erzählt wird.
-Last but not least ... Schwierigkeitsgrade für jedermann ... denn vom normalen oder schwerem Spiel bis hin zu einem Spaziergang für Noobs ist alles dabei.

So und nicht anders muss ein Spiel sein.
Fair ... klasse ... unterhaltsam.

Je plutôt sympa qui axe sont gameplay davantage sur les puzzles que sur le combat. Le pixel art est très beau, le gamefeel satisfaisant, l'exploration bien et la majorité des combats agréables. C'est pas non plus le metroidvania de la décennie mais il permet de passer un bon moment et peu se vanter de proposer quelque chose qui a sa propre identité.
Le jeu est par contre un peu verbeux et quelques boss un peu pénibles (entendre par là que le gameplay ne se prête je trouve pas très bien à ce qui est demandé de faire pour venir à bout de ces quelques boss.). Il peut aussi y avoir un petit sentiment de ne pas comprendre directement ce qui est attendu de nous sur certains boss car ils intègrent pour la majorité une petite part de réflexion puzzle, mais après 1 ou 2 try on fini par comprendre ce qu'il faut faire / quelle arme utiliser)

Esse jogo fez eu amar novamente metrodivanias, pois ele é incrivel, sua historia, musica e arte são perfeitas. Esse jogo não precisa de 300 efeitos ou cutscenes super realistas para dar impacto ou para ser interessante, ele faz coisas simples parecem incrivelmente boas, cada segundo desse jogo valeu apena e posso prometer que você não vai se arrepender de jogar.

关卡设计挺巧妙的，但是流程地图太长了，前三个小时的体验最好，越到后面体验感越差还有收集制作的装备没有很大的用处，正反馈太少了，后面全是粪怪，一堆解密，boss也全是机制怪，说实话玩的很难受。

I like metroidvanias, tho I am super bad at agile platforming. Therefore only thanks to "relaxed mode" I was able to finish the game and so thank You mr Dev for this mode - without it I would ditch the game and could not experience whole story and all sweetness of Your game :). Overall graphics super cute and super detailed, music retro in sync with the vibes, story crazy and I liked it, also many cool mechanics and ideas here, tho I absolutely hate bosses in games I do appreciate effort put into those as well.

I tried it years ago and couldn't finish it, but then I just tried it again now that I'm older and can think better.

It's a very pretty game. The controls felt iffy but you can get used to them.

But the story is where it loses me. It's just so painfully obvious to a degree further than even nintendo games. I do like the moral of the story, which is obvious almost from the get-go. It's about the Right to Repair, and Right to Pirate. It's kinda nice, but I just can't bring myself to finish it. The writing hurts.

这款类银是在旭日老仙之前就已经买了并且玩了一段时间，发现剧情看不懂遂弃坑，后来旭日老仙出这个系列的时候没空下载回来玩，时隔将近两年半()才重新下载回来并打了全成就，游戏战斗方面基本都是偏机制向，知道什么时候躲招，什么时候输出，输出哪个地方，是战斗的关键。剧情方面，ok看完老仙的合集后依然有许多存疑点，感觉游戏在剧情方面确实有点迷。游戏bgm很赞，尤其喜欢高塔和达兰坡地的bgm。解密方面还行，偶尔有几个难得看看攻略也能全收集。挑战模式并不是挨打就死，装上3个免伤模块能让你有很高的容错（吐槽一下除了免伤和肺活量别的模块基本没啥用，并且挨打就失效，有点难绷），挑战模式最难的是白特工（3个阶段，容错低，并且连战）和米娜相关的部分（不能装模块，挨一下就死）以及最终的星虫boss（建议每一个阶段熬无伤或者至少身上有2个盾再击杀，因为进入下一个阶段死了复活后护盾不会补满），流程很短，推进很快，综合来说还算是一款不错的游戏。

This game has the best story ever deliaered within the medium. Had this been a movie, it would have become a timeless classic.

Don't let the bright cute graphics fool you. This game is very dark with tragic characters that are so very lifelike, it's amazing it came from the mind of a smalltime solitary developer. Even the antagonists are fascinating.

The gameplay is fun. It plays like a platformer with some Metroidvania ellements. But some of the Metroidvania ellements can be completelty ignored and you can beat the game without fighting any of the optional bosses or collecting the extra curricular upgrade resources.

I think the most compelling character in this game is "Royal". Whe you first meet him, he's in a sad mood, complaining about life, how everyone treats him, and how that creates his role in life. I've never seen a character as... truly... lifelike. I think about this character, from time to time, especially when running into hyper ellite religious individuals. I beat the game years and years ago, and still think about it.

The way Religion seems to work in society, is very much like what's portrayed in this game. I wish I could explain further, but there are some catagorical differences. Religions aren't always a theocratic government bent on punnishing the wicked, but where the similarity resides is in the culture, the role we play, the storys we tell ourselves about the play by play of our lives. Our motives and how it determines our motives, and the legitimacy or maybe lack of legitimacy those stories and motives have on reality.

There's a silent sitori (Zen Bhudist term. Look it up), that's found in this game, and it lingers with you for months after completing it. And it just... becomes a part of you.

The developer even made the music to the game, though I hear he doesn't consider himself a composer. I wouldn't say that the music is masterful, but it's successful at getting you to feel what's intended.

PAra empezar no es metroidvania es un juego de plataformas con puzzles. Segundo la historia, santo coñazo, los personajes no paran de hablar, incontinencia verborreica, es un puto juego de plataformas con puzzle de lo mas simplón, quieres dejar de darme la tabarra cada 2x3, Joakin Sandberg dijo que el guion lo iba haciendo sobre la marcha y se nota.

Lo más interesante son los bosses, ojala el juego solo fuera de bosses y no de personajes con incontinencia verbal que no importa a nadie, ya que la historia ni es original ni el juego es divertido.

Vamos lo he dejado a la mitad porque es aburridísimo.

Despite its flaws, Iconoclasts was just good enough to be above C-tier. If you want a true Metroidvania, I found myself pretty satisfied with this title. A lot of the bosses, however, featured really annoying and convoluted gimmicks that would only be used once, and when they were, they were either explained poorly (the Inti fight) or presented with no time to react (the Inti fight, again). Many of the characters were written very well, and others not so much; Chrome was one of my highlights, and Elro was one of the most bothersome lore characters I've ever seen. As I said, just above mid.

In the start, it felt extremely promising, the characters and setting were charming, and I had a lotta hope that it'll continue being so engaging as it goes on and the challenges becomes more complex. But more often than not, I'm finding that the complexity is created through tedious backtracking and confusing level design. Yeah yeah, backtracking is normal in Metroidvanias, but you gotta make the movement become more fun at some point, but we can't dash, we can't double-jump, all we can do is walk, jump, and hang from platforms, and it just all feels kinda clumsy and incomplete. The combat is also nothing to write home about, you have one clumsy melee weapon and two guns (of which only one is really practical for combat). The "Tweaks" you can equip don't give you any additional flexibility or so, they mostly make exploration a tad more convenient.

I was honestly into the underlying story and the worldbuilding, but the gameplay to me feels like a drag. It's honestly just inches away from a good game, though, so writing this review stings. I do respect what the developer went for and I hope I can be more positive about their next project.

Sorpresa de juego, esperaba que sea un juego más tranquilo por sus colores vibrantes y todo el apartado artistico (excelente por cierto) pero resulto ser un juego que te sumerge en una historia donde la humanidad se enfrenta a una crisis espiritual y politica. El unico punto que creo que no destaca suficiente es el enfrentamiento con los mobs generales o comunes, no representan algo significativo del juego hasta parecerian una especie de "relleno" pero no se hacen molestos; que por el contrario, sus jefes me gustaron bastante.

+类银方面，根据角色获取到的武器来进行“道路解锁”，当然也能用来杀敌
+boss数量多，且各有特点，绝不是换皮怪
+关卡方面，保存点数量多且位置恰当，boss战前基本都有保存点，就算没有也能在boss房前复活。关卡设计无功无过，也还可以

-前期的谜语人对话略多。
-部分boss提示不明显。游戏里都是机制boss，提示不明显导致容易初见杀（好在能直接复活后可重新boss战，不用跑图）
-机制boss还有一个缺点，就是get到的很快就能打过，get不到就真的卡在那里了，容易弃坑。说实话游玩过程中有好几次想弃坑，挫败感实在是太强了
-同样的，部分机制小怪引导也有不清晰的问题。比如大后期的附身怪，附身怪a无法直接伤害，附身怪b却可以直接伤害，逻辑不通导致差点卡关
-关卡方面，整体解密要素偏多，甚至可以用几乎来形容。玩家获得到新武器只是“满足”解密能力，但具体“解开”某条道路的机关还得靠玩家去想，数量多了有点烦人。喜欢这套的应该会非常喜欢，但我觉得有点用力过度了，哪怕是密特罗德的解密都没有这么多，玩的有点累
-地图部分场景缺少捷径，本来解密失败需重试就挺烦的，结果有的地方还要来回跑图，更是恶心。点名“高塔”部分
-地图显示信息少甚至错误。本来地图显示的内容就不多，结果与npc对话提到的某个地点，居然和地图上的名称对不上，找半天找不到正确地点，还得去看攻略（看评论区说是中文翻译问题）
-部分主线引导不明确。结合上一点，导致更容易卡关、迷路
-探索奖励匮乏。游戏中的探索奖励就是宝箱，开启后获得可制作模块（理解为空洞骑士里的护符就行）的材料，首先本身模块的效果就不咋地，受伤后还会使最右侧的模块暂时失效。另外佩戴上限也只有3个。中期开始我都懒得制作模块了，因为作用实在不大
--整体游玩下来缺少“逐渐解锁能力”的快感，正如前面所说获得新武器后玩家只是有资格去解密，导致长时间玩下来只有对解密和跑路的厌倦，最终支持我玩下去的只有剧情

Somehow this game got worse and worse the longer the story continued on. The enemies became more tedious and spongey despite being the same enemies you've fought all game. The major enemies who want you dead over and over and over somehow keep coming back like a bad penny because of decisions you get no say in, YET YOU MUST. Parts of your "party" become more and more frustrating and unreliable and there's not a single reason a sane person would continue depending on them, yet YOU MUST. YOU MUST let every bad decision happen, every opportunity to solve a future problem fail.

Without the plot, the game is... just any other metroidvania, except with more enemies having invincibility spam for periods of time than you can shake a wrench at.

I didn't hate it, but after about the midpoint of the game, I certainly didn't enjoy any of it either.

一款非常好玩的类银，推荐给喜欢偏解谜的2d动作冒险游戏。
这游戏没有数值成长，只有相当于能力的几把武器，每个武器不仅是攻击变化，还有很独特的效果，用来解开地图以及怪物的“能力锁”，所以游戏中不仅是地图上的谜题，打BOSS时也得解谜，可能有些人会不太能接受。不过还好的是谜题提示做得还不错，印象里我就卡了两次，一次是对新武器能力不熟、还有一次是星虫手部螺丝和前面的设计相悖，其他时候能GET到方法。
另外游戏花了非常多的时间来做过场来讲故事，剧本不算白开水，还挺黑暗的，但是人类内斗了这么久最终结局还是靠主角打爆BOSS，就显得前面死那么多人的剧情没什么意义，甚至有点搞笑，配上这个机翻还不如不看。
总之这游戏是一点也不恶魔城的，更像纯粹的银河战士，然后把地图探索改成剧本推动。

TL;DR: A weird, middling little action game that doesn’t do enough to stand out in a crowded genre.[hr][/hr]
Occasionally I buy a game based on whim and vibes, instead of my usual routine of relying on trusted reviewers to help filter out most of the chaff. [i]Iconoclasts[/i] was one such purchase, and while I enjoyed it well enough, I didn’t find it terribly compelling. It is a science fiction story-driven game search-action (or at least that’s the genre it most closely hews to) title that never quite manages to find its footing.

You play as Robin, an underground mechanic on a planet dominated by a dystopian religion / government known as the One Concern. This seemingly almighty cult strictly guards access to technology and strives to confine the thoughts of the populace similar to The Party in George Orwell’s [i]1984[/i], punishing deviations with “divine” eradication. The story that unfolds over the course of the game has you digging into the planet’s history, both literally and metaphorically, and revealing the true intentions at the heart of the One Concern’s operations. It’s a compelling setup, but the game’s tone is a bizarre mixture of cutesy slapstick humor with body- and cosmic-horror all set in an authoritarian hellscape. That blend may be up somebody’s alley, but for my tastes it never found the right balance, and wound up feeling constant tonal whiplash.

The gameplay was similarly dissonant, vacillating between fairly standard side-scrolling action-platforming exploration (with the requisite puzzles and secrets) and boss fights that tended to rely on teasing out gimmicks rather than mastery of the combat mechanics. It was mostly enjoyable, but nothing really felt clever enough to make a lasting impression. There were a few stand-out boss encounters where I was impressed based on enemy design, but more often I found myself replaying early phases that I’d grown bored of as I tried to learn a gimmick later in the fight. It never got so frustrating that I wanted to quit, but neither was it compelling.

In conclusion, Iconoclasts is a land of contrasts. I liked it well enough to finish it, but it felt too internally inconsistent to really hit with me, and I don’t feel compelled to recommend it. It is impressive as a largely solo-developer project, but it just didn’t feel fully compatible with my tastes.

Mechanically, this is a great 2D Metroidvania! Everything technical and aesthetic about it is top notch, it's got great sprite work and sound design, it feels phenomenal to play, and it's very creative with some really unique puzzles and plenty of secrets that are worth searching for.

The writing, on the other hand, is more mixed for me. The overall concept is great and there are some scenes that are incredibly well done. The world is alive and some of the twists hit pretty hard. There are also, however, just as many scenes where the dialogue is a little stilted and awkward, and it's not entirely clear what they're trying to get across.

I still heavily recommend playing Iconoclasts, since the gameplay is what matters in this genre and it does all of that extremely well. I also do think the writing is better than average, the lackluster parts only stand out to me because I feel like this game had the pieces in place to tell a truly phenomenal story. While it didn't live up to that potential, it's still commendable that it had such a promising world and cast in the first place and I wouldn't be surprised if some of these characters and scenes truly resonate with a player with different tastes than myself.

If you're into Metroidvanias or 2D platformers at all, this is well worth full price.

说真的，在玩《叛逆机械师》之前，我也担心过这类游戏会不会又是个“玩法扎实、剧情凑数”的模板作品。但十多个小时流程下来，我彻底被折服了——它居然在有限的篇幅里，把一群角色的故事讲得如此鲜活、动人。

这游戏的灵魂，绝对是它笔下的人物。主角罗宾一句台词没有，却靠着行动成为我心中那朵永远灿烂的“小葵花”，她的善良与坚韧贯穿始终。而她的伙伴们更是各有各的精彩：冲动的米娜其实重情重义，看似软弱的哥哥埃尔罗有着最真实的恐惧与关爱，而那位骄傲的圣子罗伊尔，其悲剧性结局更是让无数玩家争论不休，后劲十足。就连反派也毫不脸谱化，特工“黑”的悲情与将军克罗姆的复杂谋算，都让这个世界显得真实而深刻。不得不说，这种全员“有血有肉”的塑造功力，在同类游戏中实属罕见。

Até a parte da neve o jogo já deixa claro que ele é metroidvania-lite: não é tão travado em backtracking, mas tem aquela sensação de “vou abrindo caminho na marra”.
A Robin, com a pistola e a chave inglesa, dá um gameplay que mistura plataforma rápida com quebra-cabeça na marra. Não é nada complexo demais, mas é satisfatório.
As mecânicas de girar parafusos, carregar energia e ativar mecanismos fazem o jogo parecer bem físico, tá ligado? Tu sente que tá mexendo no mundo.

ESTÉTICA

O jogo é pixel art 2D, mas não é aquele pixel genérico. Tem cor, tem movimento, tem uma vibe meio “mundo quebrado mas bonito”.
As animações são suaves, e os cenários antes da neve já mostram que o jogo manda bem em criar ambientes que te dão curiosidade real de continuar andando.
A trilha sonora é boa de verdade, tu sente ela te jogando pra frente, mas sem ser barulhera.

PERSONAGENS E ATMOSFERA

Sem spoiler: tu vai conhecendo alguns personagens que parecem “normais”, mas tu sente que tá rolando algo muito maior por trás.
O jogo tem um tom meio pesado escondido num visual fofinho. Tu percebe que cada área tem uma história própria, e até a parte da neve tu já fica meio “mano, tem algo errado nesse mundinho”.

RITMO

Até chegar na neve, o jogo te dá um ritmo bem equilibrado:

um pouco de puzzle, um pouco de combate, um pouco de narrativa, e áreas que não te cansam.

É o tipo de jogo que tu joga sem travar, sem precisar ficar lendo tutorial toda hora.

i love this game, vibes, music, art, story. it lacks nothing in these area's. two small points: i would have appriciated a difficulty level that's actually difficult but not "everything kills you in one hit lmao" and the tweak system is a scam. all the cool tweaks require the resource "ivory oil" and during two playtroughs in both of which i actively tried to get chests, i found a grand total of 0 ivory oil. at that point just dont include the mechanic

I really, really love Iconoclasts. It is such a well-crafted game and is a truly fun experience in terms of story and gameplay. And man, is it a hell of a story. This is one of those games I recommend players go in blind into, as much of the enjoyment comes from figuring out the puzzles (within both the narrative and gameplay) on your own. For fans of classic metroid, and for fans of any puzzle games, this is definitely one I would recommend picking up. Also I think it is best to try this game on a more difficult setting, as figuring out the bosses across multiple encounters really sold me when I first tried it. Also be warned that this game has profound emotion in its narrative, there are definitely moments that have stuck with me for years after, which I still think about in moments of contemplation. For pursuers of secrets there are definitely many to uncover, secrets laden into the story and world, and hidden mechanics within the gameplay as well, there is much to uncover behind its mechanics (haha!). It is games like these that give me hope for the future, and the developer Joakim Sandberg did a fantastic job, especially considering he somehow developed all this game on his own, definitely give it a chance, I promise you will find it interesting!

Iconoclasts is an odd one, i had heard so many amazing things about it especially regarding its story but when i started playing it was actually the smooth controls and especially the level design that captivated me. The character feels very responsive and controls very well. The level design starts of relatively simple in the first biome but the next couple ones after that have some of the best level design i've seen in a metroidvania. Most MV's have a few simple jumps and some enemies in each room with a basic puzzle if you're lucky which results in all the rooms feeling samey. In iconoclasts though nearly every room brings something else, with actual clever level design that feels unique. The levels flow very well with some nonlinear parts and interconnected level design full of twists, turns and shortcuts but the puzzles are still the real highlight. No real brain busters like a proper puzzle game but enough to keep the game feeling fresh at least in the fist two 3rds of the campaign.

This is because nearing the end the game becomes nearly 100% linear without much innovation in terms of puzzles. The narrative takes the stage here and while there were definately some highlights here i couldn't help but feel a tad bit dissapointed. I had heard such great things about it after all so i was expecting an incredible finale but i was just mostly flabbergasted about the completely random plot twist at the final boss. No spoilers but it just felt out of place, dunno what else they could have done with it but it did make the story fall a bit flat on its arse for me. Still the side characters and their arcs are the bread and butter of the narrative and there's a few good characters hidden in here. There's also a few i couldn't stand but results may vary on your prefference. MV's are never really narrative focused so it's nice to get one that mostly does it well. It has a lot of dialogue though which will take up a significant part of your gametime so skipping dialogue may affect the experience and game lenght.

Other than great level design/puzzles and an intrigueing narrative there's also some combat to be had in iconoclasts. Not nearly as much as most other MV's though but enough to be worth talking about. There's a good enemy variety to it all but i found combat not all that satisfying to be honest, there's no real healing system and enemies knockback on hit without dropping anything so they serve more as an obstacle than a proper adversary. For bosses though this is completely different as this game has some of the most unique bosses of any MV, mind you that doesn't mean they're the best or most fun fights but they're memorable for sure. Each boss is more of a big puzzle with the chance of dying rather than an actual fight although there's some of those too. In general the creativity on display in these fights is very impressive and just another thing to set iconoclasts apart. Their designs were also top notch and very expressive although it was sometimes hard to see what was going on in the chaos.

The visuals are also very unique with detailed pixel art, especially in terms of character expressions that further underline the story, but also for the environments. Iconoclasts is very colourfull but it sets itself apart visually with odd geometric shapes that are woven into the environments, from odd cubes in the rock to triangular motifs found everywhere, the game feels filled with iconography which is more than likely intentional. It's not the most beautiful game ever imo but it has a clear visual identity which is hard to pull of with pixel art. In terms of the score it also has quite a bit of memorable tracks although a few more emotional pieces could have definately added some more weight to the narrative. As it is both the OST and SFX are fine though to round off the experience feeling smooth. What also felt smooth was the framerate as the game ran perfectly fine with fast load times too. Worth playing if you're up for a unique MV that's more puzzle and narrative focused than usual.
