mindboggling wow
I have two complaints about this game:
I want it to be bigger and have some procedural area to run around in because I like non-euclidean games and design in general.
I want to throat punch the creator over the ski puzzle. BS hitboxes.
This game will give most people a headache and I knocked most of it out in a single setting and wanted more. Like, make non-euclidean DOOM now.
It's a short piece that you can lose time in just walking around; definitely goes under the 'Youtube Experience Game' category. Worth a jaunt.

This is a really fun little game. I can't compare it to anything else I've played because it's just that unique.
Normally, I never get nausea playing video games. No abnormal camera angles, rapid motion, or anything VR has fazed me.
That said, this game in VR left me being constantly unbalanced. Not because I was actually unbalanced, but because by some reflex my body would overcorrect itself THINKING it was unbalanced.
Wild experience, highly recommend.
As someone fascinated by mathematics, Hyperbolica is amazing, allowing you to experience hyperbolic and spherical geometries in a (somewhat) intuitive way. That being said, it does feel more like a tech demo to explore said geometries. Also, even though I have pretty good VR legs, the VR mode absolutely killed me.
If walking around in unfamiliar geometries sounds interesting, you'll love this game.

It is a fun game but above all it illustrates negatively curved (hyperbolic) space with a minigame in positively (spherical) space.

Cool for those interested in non-Euclidean geometry and how it works, I love how decently accurate the rendering is. Main quests are simple but give you a good idea of how each world works. I recommend taking breaks though as the game warns, you mayy get a migraine if you play for too long!
As an artist who paints and draws and also teaches perspective this is a one of a kind opportunity to feel really dizzy and nearly vomit. Love it. Cant wait to get well and try again.
gimmick doesn't really work well in vr honestly, just makes the world feel super flat
This game comprises of 5 puzzles, with no specific order, along with some side minigames. It gives you the freedom to roam around and explore on your own and experience hyperbolic geometry, which is a treat. I had the advantage of playing the online game "sokyokuban" (google it), so that gave me an edge I feel. Highly recommend.
This experience opens your mind up to the implications of non-Euclidean geometry. Otherwise, the gameplay itself is a bit lacking, but I'd still recommend to anyone intrigued by the premise. And watch his YouTube series diving into the technical aspects!
It may just be a tech demo, but it's a really fun and funky tech demo. If you'd like to get your brain twisted into shapes that violate the laws of our universe's geometry, give it a try!

This is more of a formal and technological experiment than a game of any kind, it's a walking sim with minimal interaction. That being said other types of spaces are very cool to experience and no other game allows you to do that in fpp (that I know of).

Fun adventure game with a focus on having the world adhere to different geometry than you're used to. It's hard to phrase how it works, but imagine walking straight forward to an object and not reaching it, you'll go right past it instead.
There's plenty of additional stuff outside the main quest, like some minigames with additional achievements or collectibles to find for a different ending. I wish the game had a bit more leeway on one speedrun achievement, and I must say I dislike a game having a random "Play in VR" achievement. Besides those two issues, fun game that will suit you for a nice day!

The difficulty of several of the minigames seem a bit broken, and the final boss fight is probably the easiest of all of them.

I really wanted to like this game. I followed the devlogs and thought it was a really cool idea. But, after playing the game, it was just that - an interesting idea. The storyline was fine, but it was the game design that turned me off. The minigames were mostly annoying, the controls were clunky (PC with controller) and there was no fulfilling challenges.
Drone racing was very disorienting and even with getting used to the controls I needed to keep switching Y axis inversion JUST FOR THE FLYING (it's horrible for normal gameplay). The settings should've been separated.
Then thing (snowball and food) throwing, the aiming is just bad. Targeting and moving is mushy and it's hard to tell where I'm actually aiming.
End game was also very confusing. The goal was not intuitive and actually doing the thing was a slog at first and way too easy once I figured out what I'm expected to do in the first place. The story point was interesting enough, but executing it was very unrewarding.
All in all, the game was an interesting idea, with decent enough storytelling for the idea, but very lacking in execution. I don't regret buying it, but I find it hard to recommend.

Unfortunately this game was not for me. The game isn't as educational as I imagined from its description. I couldn't find any explanations, names, or definitions of the geometries featured in the game neither in the game (in my 1-hour gameplay) nor external resources such as Wikis.
As you can tell from the description and screenshots, the game causes motion sickness easily. I hoped the game would intrigue me enough to overcome it, but unfortunately it didn't.

After a few hours the nonsense becomes sensible and you sort of just know how to navigate inside this bizarre geometry. Honestly a very surreal experience, and a total mind f***

This game is wonderful to play. It serves as a perfect introduction to hyperbolic and spherical geometry, and the world is so so cool. It is worth noting that it is far more about exploring, doing simple challenges in curved space, and having fun. The writing is not always superb, and the pacing of the game could be more engaging. To an extent I think if these things were "improved", it would take away from the goal of the game, which is to serve as a beautiful introduction to hyperbolic space in a world you are free to explore without being rushed. (If you want a game in curved space that is challenging and mechanically intensive, I strongly recommend HyperRogue.)
Before this game, I did not know that curved space is something we humans can actually experience, but thanks to this game (and HyperRogue) we can! The way exploring hyperbolic and spherical geometry feels is mesmerizing; I get so pulled in, I find myself missing it when I return to my basically Euclidean life. The fact that an indie developer pulled off creating a game engine specifically for curved geometry AND making the game within it look so polished is a miracle.
The game itself is fine, but high risk of simulator sickness. Most nauseating adventure game I ever finished.
If you should play this game keep the following in mind:
- do not play with a full stomach
- avoid using headphones or anything that covers the ears.
- effects may linger after turning away from the screen
- the treasure chest will make you sick fast

An environment that rewrites the laws of physics is pretty impressive on its own.
Hyperbolic geometry sounds interesting, but in terms of gameplay it's just regular geometry with more volume crammed in. There are only 2 places where it really has a direct impact on the gameplay, one of them is pushing a box in circles for 2 minutes, and the other is actually spherical geometry. That's if you don't count basic traversal challenges, just getting from point A to point B.
The rest is a whole lot of walking around, clicking on each of the dozens of NPCs trying to figure out which of them is going to progress the story, and occasional scuffed Unity platforming. The biggest impact the hyperbolic geometry has it that it makes it take way longer than you think to fully explore an area, so you will just be walking around for an eternity with your agonizingly slow movement speed.
I'd only recommend it if you've watched the development videos and want to see what the final product looks like. The technical aspects are cool but it's not fun to play.
It's a very unique experience. Definitely worth a try.

this game doesn't really have much going on. It plays a little like a tech demo and not a full game. It is a good introduction to the neat visuals, but sadly that's all they really seemed to be, a visual gimmick. If you strip away the visual gimmick, the world is empty and not very interesting, the characters assume you care about them when you really don't, and the quests I experienced were more like warioware minigames. I was expecting a much deeper experience than this from something that tries to do something so new with visuals, but sadly it was quite shallow.
I'm Hyperlovin' It™
I really enjoyed playing this game. It was exciting to experiece a true non euclidian game and it was interesting just playing around with the curved space, which the game highly encourages by having different challenges utilizing this cuved space.
Besides that, the game also provides you with an interesting story and lore that reveals itself while playing while you are exploring the world. I especially like this kind of non linear progression with a flexible order of exploration.
You don't have to collect all the trinkets but if you decide to, it is really rewarding.
I enjoyed completing 100% of this game and would highly recommend it to anyone who likes these kind of exploration / collecting games and is interested in non-euclidian games. Although beware of motion sickness.

This is a really cool game that you should definitley buy. but id buy it on sale. its beautifully crafted and clearly took a lot of work, but theres just not much to do other than talk to people and do the short little puzzles. if the devs can make other kinds of games using non-euclidean geometry, like a boomer shooter or a top down rts, that would be so cool.

Fascinating game. Euclidean geometry feels boring? Try this.
An incredibly unique game, probably the best playable representation of non-Euclidian environments yet to be created. I do wish that the game was more open about exactly what the properties of each different environment are, so you could know what to look for, but that may take away from the magic so I understand the decision. There are a few minigames to find and play, and collecting all of the game's trinkets made for a good time, though I certainly think the game would benefit from having more puzzles that actually leverage the hyperbolic spaces themselves. There are only 3 or 4 puzzles that really involve the hyperbolic space itself, the rest are just minigames/tasks being performed within the environment.
The writing and characters are incredibly charming, and the whole light-hearted attitude of the game really pays off with the surprisingly dark twist that comes at the end of the game. I'm very happy with the finished experience. Hopefully the developer gives us more from this world; so much work must have gone into creating these places, it'd be a shame to let them only exist in a game that can be mostly completed in 5-6 hours. Still, regardless of that, I think the game is absolutely worth the money, as it is an experience you will not be able to get anywhere else.

I really wanted to like this but it's just insufferably boring. The novelty of the unconventional perspective wears off very quickly and there is pretty much no substance beyond that. Tedious dialog, slow movement, minimal guidance, lots of backtracking... this would probably be better named Psychedelic Walking Simulator.
i liked the dev-logs but the game gave me extreme motion sickness so i couldn't play. if u suffer from a similar thing don't get this

This incredible simulation of what hyperbolic space would feel like is a must-play for everyone. I thought the variety of activities, like drone racing, diner dashing, catapulting, really help hit home how wondrous this space would be to navigate... I really need to save up for a VR headset to experience this more immersively!

There seems to be a lot of back-and-forth in these reviews about what Hyperbolica is. End of the day, it's effectively a walking simulator with a few short puzzles that allows you to experience this Noneuclidean world. I found the dialogue to be pretty funny, at times actually catching me off guard, but if you're looking fro something more than what is effectively an experience simulator than this probably isn't for you. However, if you're someone who has an interest in geometry, or just wants to see someone try something interesting, then you'll love it. If you're someone who wants some level of brain-breaking but want real gameplay, try out 4-D golf. Either way, love the game, even if there probably could have been more done with it.
A lot of other reviewers complain about missed opportunities here in [i]Hyperbolica[/i], and they're not wrong. It certainly could do a lot more with its premise and its gimmick. However, I believe in grading things based on what they [i]are[/i], not what they [i]could be[/i], so let's take CodeParade's word for it:

In a word, it's [i]nice[/i].
Sometimes, that's enough.
Is a quiet, [i]nice[/i] game that illustrates geometric weirdness worth (as of writing) thirteen bucks to you? That's all it comes down to. If you want some Big Gaming Experience, hold off. If you want the opportunity to expand your weird spatial experience--sorry, I can't think of a better way of putting it--then get it.
If you're a developer who wants to make a Big Weird Gaming Experience... pick this up and fiddle with it. See what it might inspire you to make... and looking by the other reviews, there's definitely a market for Big Weird Gaming Experiences. Personally, I could see a cosmic horror or sci-fi exploration game using these geometries working really well.

As technically impressive and well-written as this game is, it felt too much like a regular Euclidean game with just a funky vertex distortion effect to satisfy my desire for a tricky spatial reasoning puzzler like this dev's other game, 4D Golf. There's about 3 curved space-related puzzles in the entire game (unless I missed something) and a hyperbolic maze to solve (but like a Euclidean maze, there isn't really anything to do there but blindly try whatever path seems to point towards the goal), but outside of that, nearly the entire game can be completed by pointing yourself towards the next point of interest and walking forward. The optional content doesn't seem particularly challenging, either.
The story and dialogue is definitely engaging, so if that's enough for you, Hyperbolica should be worth your time. However, if you want something that'll really stretch your ability to wrap your head around unusual geometry, I'd look elsewhere.

It's a simple few hours game, but I was following CodeParade way back during his dev vlogging days and I'm glad I finally got to experience the game! This is a phenomenal concept and that I would hope a larger developer (or CodeParade with a larger dedicated team) would be able to utilize the idea for perhaps a maze section of a game. The boss setting was especially interesting and I felt I got a better understanding of what entering a higher dimension would perhaps be like (but do I know)? Long story short; it was a simple game but the concept behind it really makes it shine.
An interesting experience in what mathematically-accurate non-Euclidean game environments would be like. Hyperbolica is a tech demo first and a game second, which is a shame, since what game-y elements there are show a lot of promise if only they'd been developed further. Nonetheless, I enjoyed this little collectathon.

以双曲几何作为背景的游戏极少，hyperbolica便是其中优秀的之一。这个游戏与其说是游戏，不如说是对双曲空间的一次体验。在这样的空间中曲率是负数，因此会有许多奇特的视觉效果。游戏里德西特农场还是一个球面几何为背景的空间，曲率是正数，视觉效果更加震撼，为远大近小。
该游戏的游戏性尚可。大部分场景其实就是普通的游戏元素（迷宫、开飞机、滑雪等等），套上双曲几何的背景而已，也即可以看成普通游戏就是扭曲了视角而已。但有两处是实实在在利用了非欧几何的性质才能玩过去的地方：一是在德西特农场里打地鼠。回忆之前我说过德西特农场是球面几何，远大近小。因此打地鼠反而要离洞口越远越好打，非常反欧式直觉。另一处是在沙滩上推箱子使其对准洞口把它埋到洞里。初始情况箱子的方向和洞口方向不同，但利用双曲空间曲率不为零的性质，转一圈以后方向并不会和初始方向相同，而是会有夹角，因此可以推着箱子转很多圈慢慢把箱子方向朝正。这两处还是很有意思的。
关于成就：三个关于操作的成就较难，分别是（按我认为的从难到易排序）：咖啡馆80秒递10次盘子、开飞机77秒回来、滑雪5次上板。关于咖啡馆那个，steam指南上没写怎么过，推荐看youtube上一个速通世界纪录的视频里关于咖啡馆的部分。
本游戏体量较小，甚至完成成就花的时间都要比通关多，游戏性尚可，不算太好也不算太坏，之前提到利用非欧几何特性的两处很精彩，但只有两处这种考察思维的，太少了。剩下的基本只是考察操作，以及找出隐藏的东西，略微遗憾。但总的来说，如果不把它当游戏，而是对非欧几何的体验的话，这个体验旅程还是相当不错的。
Not good, if you don't play it with VR headset it's very bad, even playing with the settings to simulate a regular FPS will hurt your eyes after playing for a bit.
At best it's a VR prototype with extremely simplistic gameplay once in a while, at worst it's one of the worst walking simulator, with very bad and banal world building, which should be the core of the game, but it's so uninteresting and it seems to target a way younger audience, I don't explain why it's so bad otherwise.
My main problem is expectations, the game description talks about non-euclidian adventure with puzzles, it's not that, don't get scammed, puzzles are so few and have not much to do with non-euclidian geometry, the whole game has not much to do with non-euclidian geometry imho, when compared to games that are actually dwelving seriously in non-euclidian spaces for their games (especially puzzle games).
I read Flatterland, and it made hyperbolic space sound neat, but I didn't really get it until I played Hyperbolica.
Quirky soundtrack combined with being up all night with a baby and "why is does it take so long to walk around this little park that only took a few seconds to cross" is its own mood.

This game needs to come with a VERTIGO or MOTION SICKNESS warning. You'll experience exactly what VR motion sickness is without the VR headset once you start moving around in the world. The biggest difference is VR motion sickness will go away, but this is the type of motion that you will never get used to.

A wonderful little game with a deceptively simple story. I was already impressed by the game’s rendering of non-Euclidean spaces but the endearing characters and witty writing really elevated the whole experience. Worth seeing through to the end

It was a very chill experience, even when I took my time to talk to many npc's. their dialogues are sometimes... to tech-y but I enjoyed the others! especially with that one event, it took me off-guard, but I felt like I could bond with a character quite quickly! A wonderful experience with a cool twist, both in perspective and narrative! The music was so relaxing too, I genuinely enjoyed it

I like this game. Definitely one I'd put in the "interactive experience" category rather than a traditional game. But it beautifully conveyed a very different perspective of the world. My new favourite shape is the 5 sided square.
I recommend this game... exclusively to graphics programmers and people who like graphics demos. I suggest waiting for a sale.
The sad truth is that this is a very cool graphics demo with a painfully dull game bolted on to it. There's a hint of character that reminds me of "Job Simulator". But there's no real game. I played a bit over an hour and so far the only thing that really takes advantage of the non-euclidean weirdness is a puzzle where you have to rotate a chest by only pushing it. Basically if the graphics were "normal", then maybe this could work as a five year old's first game.
That said, if you're into computer graphics and/or mathematics, or just trippy visuals in general, then this is unlike anything you've ever experienced.

What I find very fascinating is the non-euclidean geometry that the hyperbolic world has and I think it's something to get to know and understand. I like to discover the properties of the hyperbolic and spherical world. I would recommend it to the people who're fascinated in higher dimensional spaces and things the bend the mind to unknown possibilities.

Amazingly awesome and unique world design. The way the world opens up to you in the most unexpected ways makes exploring it a real treat. Trying to track down 100% of the secrets and quest lines can be a bit tedious but that’s my only complaint. The maze and the inside out world were some of my favorite parts.

The most challenging part for me was starting some of the quests as it involved talking to a bunch of unhelpful and increasingly unfunny NPCs.
The hyperbolical worlds almost don't bring value to the gameplay other than the feeling of being lost in a large, mostly empty and uninteresting space.
It's a demo of a technology that could be used in a more interesting way. I have a feeling that a hyperbolic house full of evil mathematicians (you may know them from maths puzzles) could make a good horror game.
