A hidden Gem
A short sokoban type puzzle game where the main goal is to hide yourself using the furniture around you.
As someone who relates a little too well to the reclusive main character, I found the theme both funny and unexpectedly motivating.
Any puzzle enthusiasts will definitely enjoy working through its clever level designs.
If you SPOT this game, don't HIDE from it!
Simple, but fun. Early concept of Bonefire Peaks.
Cool little reversal of the usual puzzle platformer. Exactly as advertised.
Fun, relatively short puzzle game with unique, if slightly depressing theme.
Super sconsigliato in sconto.

Good game, sad, that it`s true and unpopular
A fun little sokoban-like. Simple graphics and music, but quite enjoyable. Feels very sad for some reason. Why is this guy trying to hide?
While the game is very simple, it is quite fun. The level of challenge is fairly low, but that doesn't mean that some levels weren't somewhat challenging. Most levels take a minute or two, but then there is the occasional few that I'd get stuck on for 5-10 mins. I actually got stuck on 709 for quite a bit longer than that. I thought maybe there was a red herring in the level. I watched a video after I completed it to see if my solution was different, and it wasn't. A prop was added that easily could have been a stationary block, which led me to think the solution must be something involving that. Other than that, a perfect game.
I really liked that the pace of the game was quick. It also continuously kept things fresh by regularly adding new mechanics. I can see how this game laid the groundwork for Bonefire Peaks, which is a great game, so if you enjoyed Bonefire Peaks, definitely check this out. If you didn't play Bonefire Peaks, definitely check it out. This game took me around five hours and it's very fairly priced. If you like these types of games, just pick it up.
This is a good sokoban style game with a hilarious end goal: you need to hide, i.e., make sure all sides touching your personal space are occupied by walls/floors/furniture. The game is on the short side (55 puzzles, which took me a little over 5 hours without hints) but there are some really creative solutions here. My main complaint is that the difficulty felt unbalanced: there were many levels that I solved almost immediately which seemed to be teaching about different furniture interactions, and and the remaining levels seemed to require multiple jumps of insight. But overall I recommend it.
solid puzzle game
Looks simple on the surface, but wrings a surprising amount of challenge out of the small set of furniture and objects available to manipulate. I was surprised how often I would get stumped in these tiny levels that really force the player to think through executing precise movements.
Fun puzzle game/agoraphobia simulator to spend a few hours with, would recommend.
Overall = 8/10
A minimalist and melancholic puzzle game with simple rules and solutions, yet some of them can be head scratching to figure out. The similar looking levels and setting is rather bland but this adds to the mundane atmosphere and style and the music complements this as well. There aren’t many levels and each is quite small so the game isn’t particularly long, but it was interesting and challenging enough if a bit restrictive at times. The infinite undo and reset options mean you never get truly stuck and can experiment freely, but I would have preferred it if turning and moving required two presses rather than one to avoid pushing blocks unnecessarily and different colour schemes on the different floors.
This is a splendid little puzzle game. It seems to take after Stephen's Sausage Roll in that the verbset is very simple but each new floor (which function as worlds in this game) adds one new piece of furniture to interact with or add in a new dimension to previously established mechanics. Puzzles are fairly contained and I didn't get stuck too much. Beat the game in under five hours.
Cute game, finished in less than 3 hours which is a shame. More levels would've been nice, love the concept. Cheap though, so can't complain.

very good, very relaxing
Very cozy little sokoban game with a fun gimmick
Just finished some initial levels of the game and feel the urge to write a quick review immediately. Room 203 blew my mind on how components are used! Try this game and you'll love it!
Hiding Spot is a puzzle game that seems inessential compared to others in the genre (especially when Bonfire Peaks is another game by the same developer that is much wider in scope and graphical quality), but it is still really enjoyable.
Some of the puzzles are really easy; I was especially shocked by how easy most of the ones of the 9th Floor were
(not to mention the final level, which was probably the easiest last puzzle out of any game I've ever played)
, and some are stupidly hard, but it never goes too far in either direction, which is something I felt in Bonfire Peaks.
Very simple, with some flaws, but some great moments that make you feel very smart. If you get easily frustrated with hard puzzles where you get stuck, just take a break from it for a while. That really helped for me.
7 or 8/10.
Pretty fun. Much easier than Pipe Push Paradise or Stephan's Sausage Rolls but still challenging. Visually unappealing.
Amazing Game
Great concept for a little game, perfectly executed
This is an example of how simplicity can still be fun and challenging.
Only a few elements are brought into the puzzles but yet they are so enjoyable to solve.
I also never felt bored and the fact you can just go any other room when you are stuck on one and want to leave it aside for a while is very nice.
[] Game Content: There's about 10 Floors. Each floor has around 5-10 rooms. Pretty straight forward, without a story. No narration. A puzzle type game.
[] Gameplay: Only 2-3 levels requires me to look for the answer. Took me around 3-4 days to complete.
+Good thing: Feel free to enter any levels and rooms at any time, other than the roof top level.
Occupies your mind.
Low storage for PC memory.
-Downside: Get ready to get eye pains (if trying to blast through it in 1 day).
-Annoying thing: I agree to some of the reviews saying that, it makes the beginning of the game harder to figure out without any pre-game tutorials. What you can move, how they can be flipped, how they can be lifted.
=(Rule/Tip: Your character has to be surrounded/enclosed by 4 surfaces (wall is counted as one too). So, corners would have give you an advantage by marking 2 surface out of the way.)
This is a nice short sokobanoid with a few clever ideas and entertaining but not too difficult puzzles.
Depression Simulator
Hiding Spot: the Selected Works Review
Steam Curator Page: https://store.steampowered.com/curator/44858736/
We're in the midst of a golden age for puzzle games; it's like the one-two punch of Stephen's Sausage Roll and The Witness back 2016 unstoppered huge creative energies across the indie scene, and in the intervening years devs have been parading out a stream of stone cold puzzle classics, and an attendant constellation of smaller, but still excellent, titles too.
Hiding Spot is a bright star in that constellation. It's by Corey Martin, who went on to make Bonfire Peaks, and made Pipe Push Paradise prior to HS - both are phenomenal games, by the way; Bonfire Peaks in particular shares a lot of DNA with Hiding Spot, so if you like this game you should definitely check it out.
But you should start with Hiding Spot; going a step further, if you're curious about the puzzle game renaissance in general, and 'expert puzzle' games in particular, Hiding Spot should be your first stop on that journey. It ramps up its mechanics in a sensible way, nudging your brain into increasingly cantilevered acts of lateral thinking as you internalize its ruleset, and the twists on that ruleset that each different piece of furniture introduces to the moving/stacking fundamentals. For the record, although I love puzzle games, I'm (regrettably) not deeply talented at them, and it took me about 9 hours to complete all 55 puzzles in Hiding Spot.
Key to Hiding Spot's success as a puzzle game, as well as an ambassador to the genre as a whole, is that it's very explicit in terms of what you need to do in each level. Your goal is to surround yourself, on all sides and overhead, with furniture/objects/walls; the layout of each room only has a couple of places where this will seem possible so, once you understand this, you can cleanly and reliably (although not without difficulty of course) 'read out' the puzzle in front of you. And these are tight, small-scale puzzles too, with no red herring elements or extraneous elements as far as I could tell; combined with the requisite unlimited undo/restarts you can home in on and sculpt your solution ideas with no unnecessary friction.
Aesthetics are not hyper important to me in a puzzle game (and some of the best puzzle games have shonky/nerdy/goofy premises), but vibe is something that all Martin's games excel at. Hiding Spot is just plain surreal, with weird low noises in the background and a claustrophobic, dreamlike atmosphere that could be read as threatening or merely deeply odd, depending on your mood.
I don't have any complaints or nitpicks even. Hiding Spot is just a very good puzzle game. There were a few puzzles that frustrated me with the complications they introduced, but every puzzle game has this element of frustration, and you actually want it, because these are the levels that really force you to refine your solving processes. Playing this game can unlock an ongoing love of the puzzle genre, and if it does you have a feast in front of you after you finish Hiding Spot. You'll also have feelings of great cosmic despair whenever you see a folding card table in real life. Great game.
Puzzle game with a calm yet eerie atmosphere
There is a fantastic little puzzle game at the heart of this. Unlike other puzzle games, when adding new features to how puzzles work, to increase the complexity, the difficulty doesn't seem to ramp up too hard. I still felt like I had a good chance of solving all the puzzles in the late game.
Add to this the atmospheric music, and the strangely haunting concept of basically hiding yourself away, and this is indeed a hidden gem ;-)
Some nice puzzles here, but graphics and controls feel a bit awkward.
If you, like me, do this in real life at work, then this game will help you level up and totally hide from coworkers.
9/10
An excellent 3D Sokoban with furniture.
What is it: A unique take on the Sokoban genre, where you have to move furniture around until you are completely hidden in a tiny cube, surrounded by walls or furniture. You start with simple cubes which you can pull or push, but later get access to more complicated furniture: desks, double chests, armchairs, tables you can flip, and dressers you can open. The story is left to your own imagination: are you hiding from zombies, feeling down, or maybe just playing hide and seek.
Similar to Stephen's Sausage Roll or Bonfire Peaks, the game throws you in the deep end, you have to discover interesting ways in which the different pieces of furniture behave when pushed, or pulled, and how they interact with each other. And other than the game's title, you're not even told what the goal is.
Unlike classical Sokoban where you have designated spots for boxes, half the challenge in this game is figuring out where to build your fort. Sometimes you have to find one spot in a seemingly impossible level, sometimes you have to figure out which of the many possibilities is actually achievable. There are open levels with lots of space, tight mazes you have to navigate, and crammed closets you can barely move in. With his two other games on Steam, Bonfire Peaks and Pipe Push Paradise, Corey Martin became one of my favorite puzzle makers.
How hard is it: Moderate to hard. There is usually an easier level introducing each new piece of furniture, but after the first floor the game gets quite hard. With no timer, unlimited undo and restart, and all (except one) levels unlocked from the start, you're free to let a level stew in the back of your mind until you get an epiphany. However, the game doesn't get too hard.
How long is it: 55 levels, which should keep you occupied for 3-6 hours.
Level design: Excellent. Every level is unique, the game doesn't seem repetitive at all, and the solutions are usually not obvious. Some hard thinking is required for many levels. The game manages to do a lot with only a handful of items.
Quality: Superb level design, mechanics that make sense, simple but pleasing voxel graphics, good achievements.
Worth the price: Yes.
Most positive aspect for me: Excellent puzzle design.
Most negative aspect for me: It was over too soon.
Also consider:

One of my favourite games. Especially for its ability to combine and present the game's verb mechanics with the in-game puzzle elements/objects to form surprising and unique interactions throughout the player-led adventure. Steam really needs to have this game's "profile features limited" restriction lifted so this hidden gem can be showcased to more people.
A simple yet rewarding puzzle game that continually introduces unique interactions. Music and voxel art complement the design of each level perfectly.
Pretty fun little puzzle game! It made me rage only a tiny bit on a few of the puzzles. Overall some nice mechanics and cute puzzles, would recommend for a short and semi-challenging experience. The eighth floor was my favorite!! :D
Neat 3D puzzler. The levels are just the right size and the clutter of 3D objects obscuring each other is minimal. For better or worse the graphics, music, and story are also minimal. I would've liked some explanation of why the protagonist needs to hide. If there were an eldritch abomination outside, the game could've easily had some horror vibes.
The mechanics are slightly awkward; you'll often need to crouch or un-crouch to perform actions and there's no way to change your facing direction without a movement input. Sometimes you accidentally knock over a table; it happens. Once you're past that, you can enjoy the unique, intuitive interactions of furniture (e.g. pulling out a dresser drawer, accidentally knocking over a table, etc.).
Difficulty : 2.5/5 (A bit Hard)
Global : 3/5 (Very Good)
I love this kind of game. This one is not that hard except for a few levels with the tables but the puzzles were made with care and there are some "eureka" moments.
very nice to play. some tough nuts to crack.
Not as polished as Bonfire Peaks but nonetheless pretty fun and decently challenging.
HIDING SPOT

Absolutely fantastic Sokoban with many interesting mechanics. The music is haunting and the graphics are excellent.I have played four hours so far and enjoyed every minute of it.
ok i'm stuck on the 4th floor. i'm terrible at persistence in puzzle games. although i will probably not finish this game, it's pretty d*ng good and i had a great time up until then. lol
A voir.
GNU/Linux
Le jeu tourne sans problèmes.
OS: Linux Mint 21, MATE edition.
Hardware : 5950x, Nvidia 3080Ti, 64GB ram.

the most healing puzzle game i have even played. simple, elegant, surprising to me. 10/10
In short: Hiding Spot is a short but smart block-pushing puzzle game about rearranging furniture. The tutorialization is poor, but the theming is strong. With roughly 3 hours of content the price seems somewhat appropriate, while being a steal on sale.
In long: I'm usually not huge on block-pushing puzzles (especially sokoban and the likes), but this one is a bit different. In terms of gameplay you have a limited space on a square grid with some immovable blocks and some movable furniture items. You play as a guy who can stand or crouch, push or grab & pull. The goal is to build a small 1-block cubby-hole to hide in. Since you have to cover your head too, this quickly introduces a third dimension.
While the basic mechanics are pretty simple, complexity stems from the various objects that get gradually added. Starting with simple boxes you'll soon find yourself wrangling bulky dressers and their various drawers. I liked the various furniture items and how differently they behaved (especially the flipping tables). Some of the mechanics are fairly quirky (like not being able to turn around without moving a tile), but the game is built around them. Unfortunately there is zero guidance and no tutorialization at all. So some of the more counter-intuitive mechanics have to be discovered by trial and error or dumb luck.
Being able to pull stuff on top of you
and
level boundaries (despite looking like an open room) counting as walls
could have used better introduction (spoilers are just mechanics).
A lot of those gripes are made up by level design. The game is broken up into 55 puzzles spread across 10 floors. They're usually quite small (which makes the trial and error easier to stomach), but typically very well crafted, smart and often not obvious at all. It's just the right size where - if you get stuck - you can close the game and keep playing in your head. I appreciate that the game is never punishing. There are unlimited undos and you are always free to skip a level. The solutions are generally elegant and feel rewarding. Completing all the levels took me about 3.5 hours, but I definitely took my time, getting stuck on three of them for quite a bit. You should expect to get about 3 hours out of this game, which is perfectly fine. Better for a game to have a few smart and challenging levels than to overstay its welcome, flooding you with dumb or repetitive levels.
The presentation is decent. Sound effects are not really note-worthy, but the music is enjoyably subtle and atmospheric. This is not the best voxel art I've ever seen, but it gets the job done and looks decently nice. I like the theming with a grown man painstakingly rearranging furniture just to hide from the world, rocking back and forth in the relative safety of his cubby-hole. Definitely pretty unique and memorable. The game also has a proper thematic ending, which I appreciate when most indie puzzle games just throw you back to menu upon completion.
The technical side is functional if a bit anemic. The first thing you'll note is the complete lack of mouse support. It's keyboard-only all the way. I don't mind it for the game, but in menus it's perhaps a bit too old-school these days. WASD and arrow keys are interchangable at least. The visual settings are completely fine (windowed mode, resolution selection, anti-aliasing, vsync), but the audio settings could have used volume control instead of just mute settings.
In conclusion this is a surprisingly smart game. I was constantly amazed how very small levels could still trip me up and require me to really think about my actions. Plenty of "Eureka!" moments to be had, which always feels nice in a puzzle game. The first impression was a bit rough, being thrown into the game with no tutorialization at all, but at least the theming is strong and unique. Over-all just an enjoyable short experience that is pretty adequately priced. Very easy to recommend on sale, even if you're not too hot on block-pushing puzzles.
The gameplay is straightforward and prototypical of the genre. The atmosphere is strong. This is the saddest Sokoban.
This game... Made me realize I am very bad at sokoban games. Loving the cupboard, but the table levels makes me wanna hide in the corner in real life.
I personally find this game pretty hard but maybe because it is my first sokoban.
Most important thing in this game is figuring out where is the perfect spot, then you can start planning. Knowing how the furniture interact with each other are also really important. Really makes me use my brain here, recommended!

A game where your character is strong enough to lift two full dresser drawers with their head, but not pick up anything with their arms.
A pleasant surprise!
Having not enjoyed it's bundle-mate, Pipe Push Paradise, I was unsure what to expect heading into Hiding Spot. Thankfully, I found it to be more enjoyable in pretty much every way - though it sadly does have some issues.
Thematically, the game just works really well, & the music/art that ties it all together is soothing & well-suited to the experience. There's not too much variation in the music so you might get a little bit fatigued if you're actively listening to it, but as background puzzle noise, it's very suitable.
The puzzles are presented very cleanly, & the game introduces a decent amount of unique interactable items to up the difficulty - Up until a point, anyway. This stops happening a few chapters into the game, leaving the last few chapters to often be easier than the ones before it. There's also some puzzles that feel out of place in terms of difficulty, either being far too easy or a serious step up in challenge compared to those around them.
Overall though, minor gripes with the consistency of the difficulty aside, Hiding Spot is a well presented & very enjoyable little puzzler that I'm happy to have sunk a couple of hours into, & would gladly recommend it to experienced & new puzzle players alike.
This is a fun puzzle game with an easy-to-understand premise that uses simple mechanics of moving furniture around to solve complex puzzles. I was surprised at the diversity and ingenuity in the puzzles, and found some quite difficult. This was a very satisfying quick playthrough, and was definitely worth the price.
Very good puzzle game, somewhat similar to Stephen's Sausage Roll, but not as difficult and much shorter.
imma cosplay this guy
Fun and unique puzzler that gets fiendishly difficult near the end. Does a great job of exploring its mechanics. Warning: Flipping tables in the game might cause you to flip tables in real life
Unique and clever
Simple control, difficult but well designed puzzles. Great game! Highly recommended for those looking for a casual time killers!
A very cozy (and epic!!!!) game
Sneakily difficult but at the same time very enjoyable. It makes you laugh but at the same time think, "I hope everything's ok with the developer"
Hiding Spot

TLDR Hiding Spot is a short, and not too challenging, sokoban-style puzzle game with some interesting mechanics, although it feels a bit underdeveloped. [15/20⭐, 4h🏅, 3/5💡]
Context Hiding Spot is sokoban-style game where you must surround the player character with the moving pieces (the hiding part). The tweak in the mechanics is that pieces change shape when pushed in certain directions (it reminded me of Pipe Push Paradise, although at the time I wasn’t aware they had the same developer).
Writing You're simply in an office space looking for a hiding spot. I actually got some chuckles from the idea of the character laboriously constructing a hiding place in an office (
and the ending!
).
Aesthetics The visuals and soundtrack also provide an uncanny feeling that fits the bizarre tone of the game. However, I feel that the developers missed an opportunity to further explore the concept by not providing any context or interaction, even if marginal (this is something that Pipe Push Paradise does a little better, even if it is still completely nonsensical).
Gameplay There are 50+ puzzles, all unlocked from the start. Among games of this kind, the puzzles in Hiding Spot are not that challenging: levels are small and usually require only that you to figure out a particular mechanic of the pieces. On the other hand, this also means that there aren’t any gentle introductions to the concepts, but that isn’t really an issue since there isn’t that much you can do on maps of that dimension. So if you’re looking for actual casual puzzles, Hiding Spot seems like a good choice. I did find the distribution of the levels among the worlds (here, floors) confusing, as there didn’t seem to be any conceptual difference (again seemed like a wasted potential, creating a world with no meaning).
As for the actual gameplay, I found the controls awkward, and made worse by the isometric perspective. But I understand that this is a complex issue for tile-pushing games where the third dimension is relevant (e.g., Pipe Push Paradise used a top-view and faced the opposing issue where it was difficult to understand the height of the pieces). But there is an undo button, so there’s that. As any sokoban-style game, there are dead ends but you can undo moves. The game autosaves but the state of each level is not saved.
Value That being said, I had 4 hours of fun, non-frustrating playtime, which seems fair for the price tag (maybe fairer in a sale). All levels accessible from main hub menu. There are multiple progress slots. Achievements are only related to solving the levels, so no added value there. There aren’t used-designed levels, so replay value amounts to revisiting the same levels.

really fun puzzle game! not frustratingly hard, but a good challenge.
Goes to show how much setting and atmosphere matters for a puzzle game.
Interesting mechanics and stays fresh until the end, was a little on the easy side for me but still got me thinking.
I liked the ending !
Fine little sokoban. Not very challenging, but still fun, has a twist on the formula. If you have proclivity for puzzles or for hikikomori, don't pass on this game. For the price, especially on sale, it's great.
Interesting puzzle game. Has some cool puzzles, almost no filler levels. The theme of locking yourself from all sides resonated with me a little too much. The final puzzle has an interesting twist, wish there were more levels in that area.
Definitely worth the money if you like sokoban-style puzzles.
Neat short puzzle game. Some of the solutions I found seemed a little bit like trial and error but most of the game was very interesting.
THANK YOU, COREY! BEAUTIFUL!
Review: Must have for puzzle players, period. Otherwise - buy it if you like challenge and think you are smart, or would like to develop your 3D spacial thinking, or like meditative gameplay and theme. Takes 4.2 h for a slow, but experienced in sokobans brain.
Mumblings (from wanna be gamedev):
1)Overworld and lvl progression. Evrth's open. That's interesting. solves some problems, brings some: you don't get completely stuck until the end, but progression doesn't feel as rewarding exploration (not an essential part of puzzle gameplay, but its almost free goodfeels generally), restricts designer's ability to control the direction and pacing. If you stick to the proposed lvl-order, difficulty is... nonlinear :) 7th floor contains some of the hardest puzzles, then 8-9th floors have some of the simplest ones, for some you could really draw the full state-tree! Having spikes upwards is unwelcomed I'd say - even if you can skip, it fumbles build up to the end and leaves that feeling of incompleteness. But having valleys of easier lvls before the end (or in mid) seems to be a good thing. It creates a proper dynamics, time to digest techniques...
2)Mechanics. Puzzle mech are very hard to analyse! The main points should include how intuitive are they (how predictable are consequences), what are the depth and width of state-tree they create, how reducible are they for our brains. So there are a lot of mechanics, unique features of different types of objects.. There are a lot of counter-intuitive interactions, such as no rotation-in-place (ok), no friction-movement (prob ok), table rotation only when not pushing (u get used to), one little thing about no collision of table legs and pulling hands (not cool), drawers not closing when pushed from behind (oh, why!). But thats all ok if it serves a purpose of restricting number of possible branches or smth, so its all debatable. Personally I found tables mostly incomprehensible and standing apart, but idea-reach, and drawers very interesting, satisfying. It seems mech-s nowhere near to be fully explored in 55 mild lvls of 4-hour game. I expect you could fill it all with unique concepts and oddities of only one-blocks and squatting-pulling introvert interacting.. But I'm not even sure it's a strict improvement on more shallow but varied gameplay. The latter seems to be a safer bet for devs.
3)Lvl quality overall: definitely some great lvls with a definite goal and beautiful logic progression. The ones where I couldn't repeat the solution were rare. Some were solving themselves. At some point we should analyse it lvl-by-lvl in these terms.. but I'm ded now bye
It is a good game.
f***ing brilliant and an absolute must play for fans of PPP, SSR etc.
Here's another wonderful example of indie video game magic. Hiding Spot is a puzzle game built on a simple but deeply human premise - our protagonist feels that he needs a bit of me-time, safely hidden away from the world. So in every room, we must help him create safe a hiding spot - a spot which is isolated from the outside world in all 6 directions. I guess most people feel like this at least some times in their lives, and besides, it evokes some fond childhood memories of turning everything in a room into bunkers.
The puzzle mechanics themselves are Sokoban-esque - you can move items around by either walking into them or by grabbing and dragging. Different items have different rules, which the game unobtrusively introduces as we move along. There are 55 levels altogether, all unique and interesting, I think the game is the right length. It's not easy, but also not hideously difficult, most levels are just right for the seasoned puzzle gamer - there were probably 6-8 levels which required a more serious sitting down and cogitating.
The presentation is nicely functional, and altogether the game is a great experience, complete with a heartwarmingly funny little scene at the end. Very much recommended.
