Поинт и клики люблю, рав фури, ваджет ай - сколько часов просижено в них. В "Раскопки кургана" от той же студии играл, заодно решил в "Старого ужасного" и "Футбольную игру". Вкратце - очень пиксельно, мало чего видно - ведь все происходит в полутьме, загадки простые, сюжет арт-хаусный, то есть ничего не понятно. Скорее рекомендую, если вы поинт-кликовый гурман и точно нет, если даже описание показалось интересным, но вы не особо фанат поинт-клика.

Mesmerizing!
Despite having no interest in football—or sports in general—I bought this game because I love Cloak and Dagger Games’ other titles. I was in for a treat. The mystery is well paced, the atmosphere is truly one of a kind, and the beautiful little details breathe so much personality and love into this game. Truly lovely.

This is the kind of tiny indie you launch “just to see”… and suddenly you’re locked in, wandering through a neon-tinted night where everyone feels slightly off, the town feels staged, and the dialogue has that delicious “something’s wrong here” energy.

Visually, it commits to retro: chunky 2D, old PC adventure DNA, and that grainy vibe that screams “late 80s / early 90s”. Mechanically, it’s classic point & click—talk, inspect, combine, move forward. Nothing revolutionary, but clean and effective.

Where it absolutely shines is the [i]scenario[/i]. I’m not spoiling anything, but the way the story builds tension and keeps you questioning what you’re seeing is honestly top-tier for such a short format. It nails that “David Lynch but in pixel form” feeling: familiar tropes, weird undercurrents, and a narrative that makes you reframe what you just lived.

My only real complaint? It’s short. Like, “you can finish it before your coffee gets cold” short. So yes, I recommend it… but I recommend grabbing it on sale—not because it doesn’t deserve love, but because price-to-playtime matters.

Хочу сразу же обратить внимание на то, что разработчики - невероятно талантливые люди: пока что я играл в три их игры и каждая из них великолепна. Я бы сказал, что эти ребята - повелители саспенса и мастера короткого метра от видеоигр.

Что касается непосредственно Football Game; в моих заметках по игре есть только одна запись - "Невероятная атмосфера". Каждую секунду ты ожидаешь, что произойдёт что-то нехорошее и страшное. Гнетущая атмосфера, которую поддерживает мрачный дизайн. Дополню, что в игре ночь.
Абсолютно внезапно нашёл отсылки к горячо любимому мною Твин Пиксу: первый же канал на телевизоре, поиск зажигалки, в целом некая недосказанность происходящего. Видно, что вдохновлялись, в основном, третьим сезоном, но всё равно здорово. (А может никто ничем не вдохновлялся и это только моё восприятие?)

Играющий столкнётся с короткой, но интересной историей, которую можно толковать несколькими способами. Конец игры непредсказуем и по своему великолепен - лучше и представить нельзя: с одной стороны, повествование завершено; но с другой стороны, финал открытый.

Если любите Твин Пикс, point'n'click и саспенс - однозначно играйте.

If you're a fan of classic point and click games and the uneasy vibe of David Lynch films, Football Game is certainly worth a couple of bucks and an hour or two of your time. It's a very short game, so you might want to wait for a discount.

The puzzles are quite straightforward and nothing you haven't seen countless times before. The graphics are simple but rather creative at times. Every now and then the game uses cinematic camera angles that actually look surprisingly beautiful. The best part of this game is the atmosphere which is dreamlike and creepy throughout, even if the story itself is somewhat predictable.

All in all, this game feels like a practice run for The Excavation of Hob's Barrow, which shares the same strengths but is a vastly superior experience.

A brief but enthralling game that keeps you hooked until its twisted conclusion. This is a perfect palate cleanser after - well, after almost anything you've likely played recently. But make no mistake: Football Game will leave a bold stamp on your memory.

As with most Cloak and Dagger games, this title is pervaded by a constant sense of unease. The universe in which it takes place is normal - arguably even mundane. But as the main character, Tommy, progresses through his day, it becomes clear that something is seriously off. What is it? Why does nothing feel quite right? How can we get to the bottom of it all?

I can't say much more without spoiling the story, so I'll simply say that Football Game is well worthwhile. Prepare for a ride you won't forget.

A short but thoughtful story told through the use of point-and-click adventure game mechanics and some fairly light, accessible puzzle-solving. There's a little bit of the requisite adventure game "find an object you can trade for another object which you use to get yet another object" back-tracking, but even as someone who's not great at puzzle-solving in these types of games, there was nothing here that I couldn't figure out myself without looking it up. The real point of the puzzle-solving here is establish a tense, unsettling atmosphere and to provide moments of characterisation which are cleverly and subtly integrated into the gameplay. There's an ambiguity to the story which felt intentional and meaningful, and overall I just found this to be a really interesting and well-constructed short experience.

Krótka przygodówka mająca całkiem sporo do zaoferowania, ale nadal starająca się nadrabiać braki niedopowiedzeniami, co tylko psuje efekt końcowy. Tak naprawdę nie dowiadujemy się na koniec, co się stało, możemy tylko tworzyć teorie.

Niemniej: to nadal angażująca produkcja dająca satysfakcję przez większość rozgrywki. Tak naprawdę nie licząc tego jednego momentu, kiedy trzeba było wydobyć kod do drzwi, więc trzeba było wykombinować papierosy i zapalniczkę i puszkę napoju i w ten sposób dostać się do męskiej przebieralni... Sam protagonista był z tego niezadowolony, a co dopiero ja. "The Excavation of Hob's Barrow" też miało taki problem.

SUMMARY: Simple point & click adventure with a great story behind it.

PROS
+ The graphics are what you expect from a pixelated point & click, but the animations and close ups add another level to it.
+ The story is simple, but well executed.
+ Nothing feels contrived or unnecessary. It's a smooth process. Most people wont ever need to lookup a guide for a hint.
+ The music is grand.

CONS
- The length almost makes it feel like it's part 1 of a 3 part game, and I wouldn't have minded more. That said, the length might have made me appreciate this game more than if it was longer.

This strange framing pairs nicely with Lynchian vibes found in the story. If you love Twin Peaks and more story driven point click adventures, Football Game is worth playing.

Mit ihrem vierten Point & Click-Adventure „Legend of Hand“ hatte das UK-Indie-Entwicklerstudio Cloak and Dagger Games (Hob's Barrow) erstmals ein kommerzielles Spiel veröffentlicht. Das Blut war geleckt, daher sollte auch die nächste, wesentlich kleinere Produktion ein kommerzielles Spiel werden.
Die Rede ist von Football Game, das fünfte Adventure der Engländer, wurde am 14.02.2018 auf Steam veröffentlicht, und bekam im darauffolgenden Jahr auch noch Portierungen für diverse Konsolensysteme. Und nein, hier geht es nicht wirklich um American Football oder Fußball. Was euch stattdessen erwartet, erfahrt ihr im folgendem Review.

[h1]Eine Nacht im Leben eines heranwachsenden Football-Spielers[/h1]
Die USA im Jahre 1987. East Bend, Purchase County, Englund Street 229. So lautet die Heimadresse des jugendlichen Schülers und Football-Spielers Tommy. Der Blondschopf hat auf den ersten Blick alles was man sich wünschen kann. Eine fürsorgliche Mutter, die Position des Quarterbacks seiner Schul-Mannschaft Purchase County Turbines und natürlich die Liebe von Suzy Cooper, dem begehrtesten Mädchen an seiner Schule. Doch hat der ansehnliche Jock einen großen Schwachpunkt: Er trinkt gerne mal einen über den Durst. Die entsprechende Alkoholfahne verrät ihn bei seiner Mutter, die dem Burschen zur Strafe Hausarrest aufbrummt. Das ist ein Problem, denn diesen Abend findet ein wichtiges Spiel der Turbines statt, und wichtiger noch hat Tommy im Vorfeld ein Date mit seiner Flamme Suzy geplant. Er hat ihr sogar ein teures Geschenk gekauft.

Jetzt liegt es an uns Tommy dabei zu helfen rechtzeitig zu Suzy und zum Spiel zu gelangen. Doch das ist alles andere als einfach, denn der Quarterback scheint derzeit eine Pechsträhne zu haben und viele Dinge sind nicht so, wie sie sein sollten. Was die Nacht für Tommy parat hält, müsst ihr natürlich selbst herausfinden.

Football Game macht kein großes Geheimnis daraus, dass etwas schlimmes im Gange ist. Schon im Titelbildschirm wird eine sinistre Atmosphäre aufgebaut, die auch über das gesamte Spiel hinweg aufrechterhalten wird. Besagte Atmosphäre ist dann auch die größte Stärke des Spiels, da die Auflösung des Plots wesentlich bodenständiger ist, als man anfangs denken mag.
Football Game ist übrigens kein Spiel, welches jedes Storydetail durchkaut. Stattdessen erlaubt es Spielraum zur Eigeninterpretation und fordert das eigene Kopfkino. Ob diese Herangehensweise gut oder schlecht ist, entscheidet der persönliche Geschmack. Aufgrund der Kürze des Spiels (ohne externe Hilfsmittel etwa 2 Stunden) sollte man jedoch keine umfangreiche Handlung oder umfassende Charakterstudien erwarten.

[h1]Keine echten Besonderheiten im Gameplay-Bereich[/h1]
Football Game ist ein generisches Point & Click-Adventure. Man dirigiert Tommy via Mauscursor durch die strikte 2D-Umgebung, nutzt die Maustasten um mit Hotspots zu interagieren (linke Maustaste) oder diese zu betrachten (rechte Maustaste), redet mit NPCs und sammelt Gegenstände ein, welche in einer Inventarleiste gehortet werden, die am oberen Bildschirmrand aufpoppt. Gesammelte Gegenstände können gegebenenfalls untereinander kombiniert werden und müssen verwendet werden, um diverse Aufgabenstellungen und Probleme zu lösen.

Um die sehr kurze Spieldauer zu Strecken, verzichtet das Spiel auf eine Hotspotanzeige und arbeitet mit Event-Triggern. Letzteres bedeutet, dass man bestimmte Aktionen erst auslösen darf und einige NPCs erst dann auftauchen, wenn man bestimmte Ereignisse getriggert hat. So weigert sich Tommy z.B. zunächst die Garage zu öffnen, und wichtige NPCs tauchen erst später in der Umgebung auf. Derartige Dinge provozieren etwas Backtracking und fruchtlose Sucherei. Da die Spielwelt aber sehr mickrig und linear ist, sollten einem diese Event-Trigger nicht zu sehr ausbremsen.

Eine größere Hürde könnte jedoch das Spind-Rätsel gegen Ende des Spiels darstellen. Hier muss man einen vierstelligen Zahlencode austüfteln, und die entsprechenden Hinweise erfordern mehr Querdenken, als man erwarten würde. Für sich gesehen ist dieses Code-Rätsel sehr gut, und bereitete mir ein schönes Erfolgserlebnis. Jedoch passt es nicht so richtig zu einem derart kurzen Adventure, welches sein Augenmerk eher auf Story und Atmosphäre legt.
Ansonsten hat Football Game jedoch keinerlei Besonderheiten im Gameplay-Bereich zu bieten.

[h1]Grafik und Sound[/h1]
Grafisch orientiert sich Football Game an steinalten Point & Click-Adventures der 80er-Jahre. Doch selbst in dieser Hinsicht wirkt die Grafik des Spiels ein wenig arg minimalistisch. Die Charaktersprites weisen z.B. keine Gesichter auf, und da das Spiel bei Nacht stattfindet, sind große Teile der kleinen Spielwelt in Finsternis getaucht. Obendrein wird ein Unschärfe-Filter genutzt, den man nicht deaktivieren kann. Abgesehen von Helligkeitseinstellungen bietet das Game nämlich keine Grafikoptionen an. Natürlich kann man argumentieren, dass all diese Dinge zur unterschwelligen Gruselatmosphäre des Spiels beitragen.
Mono- und Dialogtexte werden übrigens mit leicht animierte Talking Head-Grafiken garniert, welche an jene aus Hotline Miami erinnern. Und natürlich gibt es auch hier wieder die ikonischen Pixel-Zwischensequenzen im markant-krudem Cloak & Dagger Games-Stil.

Der Soundtrack setzt auf gruseliges Ambiente, manchmal gibt es auch einfach nur Stille. Bemerkenswert sind die beiden Tracks der Londoner Band Jupiter-C, welche im Titelbildschirm und bei den Autofahrten Verwendung finden. Diese sind angenehm düster und bereichern das Spielerlebnis.
Eine Sprachausgabe gibt es leider nicht, die deutsche Textübersetzung ist dafür gut gelungen.

[h1]Ein großer Schritt rückwärts[/h1]
Mit „Legend of Hand“ hatte der UK-Indie-Entwickler Cloak and Dagger Games bewiesen, dass sie in der Lage sind vollwertige Point & Click-Adventures mit dem nötigen Schuss Kreativität zu kreieren. Mit der Folgeproduktion „Football Game“ konnten sie leider nicht an „Legend of Hand“ anknüpfen. Stattdessen rutschen sie wieder auf den Stand ihrer Freeware-Games zurück. Das Problem hierbei ist, dass „Football Game“ aber nun einmal ein kommerzielles Spiel ist. Und als solches hat der Titel nicht genug zu bieten. Uninspiriertes Standard-Adventure-Gameplay, das Fehlen einer Hotspot-Anzeige, minimalistische Grafik und die läppische Spieldauer von ca. 2 Stunden machen es schwer den Kaufpreis von 3,99 € zu rechtfertigen.
Die düstere Atmosphäre und der sympathische, krude Artstil der Entwickler reichen meines Erachtens nicht aus, um den Preis zu rechtfertigen. Vor allem dann nicht, wenn der Entwickler mit „A Date in the Park“ und „The Terrible Old Man“ kostenlose Spiele zur Verfügung stellt. Wer die Adventures des Entwicklers mag und die Spendierhose an hat, darf aber gerne zugreifen.

It's like Ron Gilbert and David Lynch had a son with a lot of love and enthusiasm, but now they are going through a marital crisis, and the kid is entering adolescence, little by little losing his way.
A lot of teenage angst, surrealism colliding with hyperrealism and an atmospheric night like no other, a soundtrack like cherry on top, so memorable that I played it in 2021 in the middle of the pandemic and I still remember it perfectly, good and consistent pixel art for the story it aims to tell, solid experience.

Es muss ja nicht jedes Spiel tagelang unterhalten, aber das ist echt zu viel (bzw. zu wenig) des Guten! Ein vielversprechender Prolog, mehr nicht.

Football Game é um curto point-and-click de suspense feito pela Cloak and Dagger Games, mesma equipe que fez jogos como A Date in the Park, The Terrible Old Man e, mais recentemente, The Excavation of Hob's Barrow. Ele é inspirado em filmes do diretor surrealista David Lynch, especialmente Estrada Perdida mas com várias referências a Twin Peaks também. Nele, o jogador controla Tommy, um estudante que joga no time de futebol americano e quer encontrar a namorada, Suzy, antes do jogo.

Por ser um jogo curto não vou entrar em muitos detalhes da história. Ela é contada de uma forma um pouco confusa e ambígua, permitindo algumas interpretações diferentes, como se espera de algo inspirado na obra do Lynch. A trilha também lembra músicas vistas em obras como Império dos Sonhos, e os visuais são minimalistas mas bem bons. A jogabilidade é o que se espera de um point-and-click, com fetch quests e puzzles de inventário, mas o jogo possui alguns quebra-cabeças que achei interessantes.

Eu recomendo Football Game pra quem quer um jogo curto e lynchiano. Por mais que não tenha me surpreendido tanto, pois achei que a história foi um pouco previsível, ele ainda é bem feito e permite que o jogador chegue às suas próprias conclusões quanto ao que ocorreu.

Football Game is a construction kit copy + paste game. The "developer" used the craptastic Adventure Game Studio video game construction kit, copying + pasting and arranging premade assets, using premade level design tools so they could pretend they're an actual game developer. Adventure Game Studio is a point and click construction kit that you can use without any real coding skill needed, it's designed to assemble ripoffs of The Secret of Monkey Island, Day of the Tentacle and so on.

A strong argument can be made that construction kits like Adventure Game Studio should never be used to make games for profit, as the "developer", Cloak and Dagger Games has done here. These construction kits are intended to teach people some of the basic principles of game development, and to make small demos to pass around with friends. They're not intended to replace to actual work of real, professional game developers. So it's inappropriate when amateurs try to use these for profit, without any actual, real game development effort taking place. This doesn't result in products that have any real meaningful value for gamers.

This is a perfect example of that, being of deplorably low quality, and relating a badly written "noir" story about a football player with a dark past and a missing girlfriend, set in the 1980's. If the story might sound compelling, well, don't bother because whatever slim hopes this had of being remotely successful are trashed by the lazy construction kit copy + paste job. Turns out when people can't manage to do the technical implementation for a video game and rely on construction kits to do the work instead, they actually aren't good at the other areas of game design, too. Who could have guessed.

From a technical perspective, the game doesn't meet basic minimum requirements that most PC gamers expect as standard.

A choice was made to use obsolete, decades old retro pixel "art" as a substitute for contemporary PC graphics. It's unclear if this is due to lack of budget or talent, regardless, the overall visual quality of the game is extremely low as a result.

There's an ugly screen filter meant to make the game look even more obsolete... like the game looks bad enough already, but they actually went out of their way to make it look worse. There's no way to turn this off.

There's no option to change the resolution and no useful graphics tweaks. There's no way to ensure this is running at the native resolution of your display. There's no guarantee this game will look right on any PC as a result of this hamfisted design decision.

The controls can't be customised, which will be an annoyance for many, but it can also render the game unplayable for differently-abled gamers, left handed gamers or gamers using AZERTY or other international keyboard layouts.

Some of the defects in the game can be attributed to the choice of using the video game construction kit/toolset, Adventure Game Studio. This is a very poor quality toolset sometimes used by amateur/unskilled developers as it doesn't require advanced game development skills, but unfortunately has very limited capabilities. Just as you can't make a silk purse out of a sows ear, you can't make a great video game if you use a terrible engine.

These technical defects push this game below acceptable standards for any modern PC game.

The poor quality of this game is reflected by how many people spent time with it. At the time of this review, SteamDB shows the all-time peak player number was only 5 players. This is a remarkably low number, and now, the only player activity occurs once or twice a month, presumably someone loading it up to see what it is then quickly uninstalling it. Considering there's over 120 million gamers on Steam and well over 100,000 games for gamers to choose from, the overwhelming lack of interest in this low quality game is to be expected.

So, should you buy this game?

Football Game is relatively cheap at $3 USD, but it's not worth it. Given the defects and quality issues with the game, coupled with the unrealistic price, this is impossible to recommend.

This should be no surprise, it's well known that amateur developers who aren't capable of doing professional game implementation are also bad at all the other aspects of game design, which is why they simply are never successful. I don't make the rules, this is an objective fact. I mean, Rockstar didn't make GTA:V using Adventure Game Studio, did they?

So why has the developer breached Valve guidelines to make such an utterly wrong statement? The developer is just trying to cover up their inability to use professional level game development tools by pretending AGS can produce high quality games, but facts don't lie. It's a kindness, and a truth, to apportion the blame for this failure of a game to a terrible game construction kit, but if the developer insists that the game is awful because they don't even know how to use Adventure Game Studio properly, then why on earth would they make the terrible mistake of inflicting such a poor quality game on gamers?

These construction kits are intended to teach elementary video game design to people, and to make small toys to pass around with friends, and should never be used to create for-profit products or as an attempt to replace the work of real, genuine game developers, as has happened here (to disastrous results).

The developers response here is an insult to gamers and an insult to the unsung heroes of game development, the professional developers who work long hours and produce exceedingly high, legendary quality video games that millions of gamers enjoy. All so he can defend his choice to pretend he's a game developer because he used a construction kit. As always, gamers, you be the judge. Oh, you already have... peak player count: 5 players.

Nothing in the developers pointless breach of Valve guidelines changes any of the objective facts of my review. My review stands unaltered. I cannot recommend this construction kit "game" to anyone.

Das hier ist das retromäßigste Retro Point´n´Klick Adventure was ich seit langer Zeit genießen durfte.
Wie frisch vom C64 - ohne die minutenlangen(!) Wartezeiten, die die Grafikadventure auf dem Brotkasten oft hatten.

Das Spiel spielt passenderweise in den End-80ern. C64-Zeit, Baby!

Das Spiel schenkt uns eine kleine Zeitreise und 80er Charme für Nostalgiker - oder für Neuentdecker.

Man, man - auch dieses Adventure aus der Feder dieses Studios hat mich richtig positiv überrascht und überzeugt mit Mut zur Innovation.
Irgendwie sind die Point´n´Klick aus dem Hause immer ... weird - und das meine ich positiv!

Ce jeu ne paye peut être pas de mine, mais il est une vraie pépite dans son genre.

Au début, on ne sait pas trop ou le jeu veut nous emmener. L'ambiance est glauque, bizarre, dérangeant. Et plus ça avance, plus on a peur de comprendre. Des fois, il vaut mieux ne pas savoir. La fin est subtile. Il vous faudra peut être refaire le jeu (qui est court tout de même) et/ou regarder sur les forums du jeu pour comprendre tout le lore. Les théories sont FOLLES !

Bei Tommy läufts...
Der ehemalige Football Held seiner Schule wacht nachmittags halb besoffen auf, die paar Bierchen am helllichten Tage kann man sich ja mal gönnen...
Im Rausch beschließt er sich hinters Steuer zu klemmen und höchst verantwortungsvoll zum Spiel seiner Ex-Mannschaft zu eiern, natürlich nebst der holden Angebeteten.
Die steht bestimmt total auf Bierfahne und Penner-Look und wenn Tommy jetzt noch vier Touchdowns in einem Spiel erzielt und davon dann sein gesamtes weiteres Leben zehrt - tja, dann ist der Weg zum Lebenserfolg quasi vorgezeichnet ;-)
Doch halt!
Mutti entreißt uns den Autoschlüssel und brabbelt ne fadenscheinige Begründung von wegen: Dont drink an Drive - oder so...
Hausarrest gibts auch noch, das Bier ist ebenfalls alle und damit der Tag im Grunde gelaufen.
Doch Tommy bricht aus!
Nicht nur aus der elterlichen Hütte sondern auch aus den Fängen der allzu beengten Realität und im väterlichen Automobil gehts erstmal ab in die Freiheit und dann in einen Fiebertraum der seinesgleichen sucht und in wunderbar dunklen Farben daher kommt.
Wir stürzen uns also in den Malstrom aus leichtem Horror und Mystery Elementen - stets auf der Suche nach unserer besseren Hälfte... denn die ist wie vom Erdboden verschluckt.

Es wird gerätselt und gequasselt, genau wie wirs kennen und lieben.
Doch mit der Zeit merkt Tommy: Irgendwas geht hier ganz und gar nicht mit rechten Dingen zu.
Jedermann quatscht kryptisches Kauderwelsch daher und nichts ergibt einen Sinn.
Und so sehr wir auch versuchen, die Fäden der Handlung zu verknüpfen und die Dialoge in ein sinniges Bild zu pressen: Die Puzzlestücke des Geschehens wollen sich einfach nicht ineinander fügen lassen.

Je mehr wir erfahren, desto verwirrender wird das alles und mit jedem neuen Informationsfetzen verfinstert sich die Vorahnung dessen, was im verschlafenen Vorort geschehen sein mag und weswegen sich die Leute so sonderbar benehmen.

Gespoilert wird hier das echt starke und höchst interpretationswürdige Ende natürlich nicht und für nen einzelnen Taler im Sale kannst Du das sicher auch selbst herausfinden, lieber Leser.
Zwei Stündchen Deiner Zeit wird dieses kleine, aber feine Adventure der düsteren Sorte Dir rauben, doch ists beileibe keine verschenkte Zeit.
Grafisch anfangs abschreckend, entfaltet der absurd dunkle Stil mit seinen großflächigen Schwarz-Anteilen nen wundervoll bedrohlichen Charme, die passende Mucke gibts aufs Ohr und mit seinem Hinweis auf die deutlichen Einflüsse eines gewissen David Lynch haben die Devs keineswegs übertrieben.

Die Atmo ist dicht, die Story macht neugierig und die Dialoge sind auch in der Übersetzung gelungen und griffig.

Passt eigentlich alles und das zum kleinen Preis, lieber Leser. Also schnapp zu und geh dem großen Geheimnis einer kleinen Stadt auf den Grund...

First of all, the art style is really really good.
As an example, it isn't just dark because it is night, it is dark because the darkness of Tommy's past sins are haunting him. His life is bleak, he is past his prime, he is entirely consumed by his inner darkness, it permeates his every breath, his every step, his every word. This darkness is almost palpable, you can reach out and touch it within the narrative as he is desperately searching for his girlfriend, his only light in the cold world he inhabits. The ending is a bit open ended but I believe it is obvious what happened.

The soundtrack masterfully and seamlessly works with what we are being presented as we play. It is scary, it is uncanny, it is unsettling. All the good things. This Point and Click game hit me way harder than I thought it would and I am really happy I played it.

Unha aventura das que tentan levar a narración de videoxogos a outro nivel. Unha pequena historia que parece beber do Lynch da época de Blue Velvet ou Twin Peaks onde xiramos arredor da perda, do duelo e do alcoholismo.
Non é que sexa moi complexa como aventura gráfica e todo é demasiado evidente nese senso, pero compénsase cunha perspectiva narrativa que deixa moitas cousas abertas.
A ambientación nun instituto dos 80, por certo, funciona moi ben co apartado gráfico.

The Excavation of Hob's Barrow is my adventure game of the year this year (I know it was released last year, but I played it early this year), just a terrific game, so I decided to pick up the two Cloak and Dagger games I hadn't yet played at this recent Steam summer sale, this one and Sumatra.

Football Games is quite short, about an hour, but quite well done for what it is. It has some of the signature elements from Cloak and Dagger games that help them stand out over and above just being well designed traditional P&C adventure games. Like A Date in the Park or Mudlarks (which is quite a good game, their first I think, which isn't available on Steam but can be downloaded for free) it has a seemingly mundane initial setting that gets weird quickly. Hob's Barrow, of course, is creepy all the way through given its subject matter, but Football Game has almost a similarly ominous tone throughout even while it's just a high school kid trying to get to a football game and find his girlfriend. It also has some of the weird, interesting, original quirks C&D like to do, like the off-kilter closeups of characters or animations of scene elements. And as a fun early surprise, as you're walking through this pretty standard adventure game pixel art house you can look at a TV that has a series of strange, short, repeating live action clips as you click through the channels. Pretty sure I've never seen anything like that in another game of this sort.

Definitely recommend picking this up if you played Hob's Barrow and liked it as much as I did. Yes, it's very short, but the
low price is set more than appropriately to account for the length.

Avventura inquietante come da tradizione di C&D Games, ed anche questa è buona.

Onestamente, la parte puzzle non è molto riuscita nella parte dello stadio: si perde molto tempo in azioni poco stimolanti, rimbalzando continuamente tra una schermata e l'altra per attività molto futili mentre la trama rimane completamente bloccata.

Bellissima la regia, veramente. C'è sempre un'atmosfera indecifrabile in cui sembra tutto normale con l'eccezione di dettagli gravemente fuori posto che indicano come tutto sia molto diverso da come sembra. C&D poi è fortissimo nell'uso delle cutscene e anche qui sono molto azzeccate e inserite perfettamente.

Mi sento in conclusione di avvertire solo di una cosa: non è un gioco con un epilogo "spiegato". Al giocatore viene richiesta un'interpretazione degli eventi e non è detto di trovarla. Personalmente, apprezzo questo tipo di conclusione (e la mia teoria me la sono fatta).

A fantastic atmosphere, and a nothing story. But what an atmosphere! What a fabulous use of limited palette and what seems like rotoscoping(?), and a grungy, dark soundtrack! Grimy, brooding, Lynchian: worth a euro and an hour of your time.

Played this after The Excavation of Hob's Barrow because of it being the same dev - this is much smaller is scope but a nice short adventure experience with an interesting mystery and visuals, feels like "real" characters conveyed in only small amounts of text

Great game. Just the right amount of creepiness for what it is. A game that truly doesn't overstay its welcome, and has enough ambiguity to make you think. It is a very unpleasant story, so if you're in that kind of mood, you'll enjoy this hour-long sidescroller. One cutscene in particular is "off", if you know what I mean.

Dialog is done through those giant deformed heads like in Hotline Miami, which on their own are creepy enough!

Please for the love of god if you play Football Game, change the channels on the TV in Tommy's living room. He's only in his house twice, so you only have two opportunities to look at his TV. This alone is worth the $0.99 this game costs. If I say the name "Richard Kern", you'll have an idea of what's on those different channels.

Giving this one a 9 out of 10.

[Deck users: runs perfectly. Just keep the default configuration - you only need the right trackpad and R2, so no rebinding needed. Note that the inventory and menu are up at the top of the screen and only show up when your cursor is on them. That's how it is on Switch, too. You can save just like in an old-time console.]

Un juego interesante y corto de suspenso/misterio con toques de terror. La estetica y sonido del juego estan muy bien logradas, desde el inicio el juego te hace sentir la tension que caracteriza a los juegos de terror, esa de que algo no esta bien.

La historia esta bien pero el final se me hizo muy predecible, si bien el final es abierto a interpretacion, cosa que no me gusto, hay algo que casi casi te confirma que paso pero no tienes total certeza. Aun asi, es un buen juego para pasar un rato.

FOOTBALL GAME is an Indie Point and Click horror/thriller title with a depth of atmosphere you do not often see.

The experience is around an hour long but will stay with you for long time as it is so well written.

Aesthetically the game mimics, in my opinion, the old BBC Acorn Master Compact style of my childhood....

You follow star quarterback Tommy as he looks for his girl on game night but all is not as it seems.

With strong Silent Hill 2, surrealist and Lynchian vibes I would highly recommend you check this one out

Interesting game that I feel takes itself too seriously. Although I didn't regret playing it at all. Dialogue seemed like one of those cliched after-school specials from the 80s. Music was relatively fitting for the mood of the game; although, the designers seemed to either really enjoy it or pretentiously liked the song performers a little tooooo much. This is because the interludes where VERY LONG for a NOT that great music number. I think there was a choice of two different music cassettes for the player to chose from in these sections, in order to create some sort of replayablity......maybe.....idk. However, there is no way in God's green earth am I going to go back and take an ear peak at a different torturous ditty. Thank God! they at least gave us the option to skip the scene. (thank you developers :) *phewha* That being said, I do actually recommend it and had a reasonably enjoyable 1.8 hrs of my life I'll never get back. Oh, and if you like creepy closeups of protagonists ogling an 8-bit cheerleader with butt-hole camel toe!....well then, this might be just for you! Good luck and have fun!

Hay veces que no sabes muy bien por qué te atrapa un juego, aunque en el caso de Football Game, pese a la sencillez en todos sus aspectos, creo que lo tengo claro.
Una pequeña (una hora aproximadamente) aventura point and click que me ha ganado sobre todo por su ambientación y sus sensacional e insana atmósfera. Tiene algo que me recuerda a la obra de Octavi Navarro, e incluso me ha transmitido algo parecido a los juegos de A bag of milk. Obras cortas, oscuras, en las que entiendes que algo no funciona como debería y que nuestro protagonista esconde más de lo que parece. Juegos que a su manera tratan la depresión, esquizofrenia o diversas afecciones mentales, que diluyen la línea entre lo real y un mundo que pude convertirse en una cárcel o infierno para su protagonista.
Cloak and Dagger Games están en un gran momento por su excelente The Excavation of Hob's Barrow, pero lo cierto es que ya tenían unas cuantas aventuras destacables a sus espaldas, entre las que se encuentra esta pequeña joya.
Tiene algún puzzle interesante pero sobre todo, una fuerza invisible que tira del jugador a querer saber más sobre la vida del protagonista y su aparente idílica relación.
Si te gusta el cómic independiente americano o aventuras como las mencionadas en el texto te lo recomiendo. 7'5/10

Enjoyed this one a lot after playing "Date in the Park" and "The Terrible Old Man," both pretty decent short games. You play as Tommy trying to get to tonight's football game and meet up with your girl Suzy, while having to solve little puzzles and run some errands along the way. This game can be completed under 2 hours, solid pixel animation, and good music. The game is listed for $1.99 on Steam, might be worth to wait to see if you can grab it on sale since it's a really short game.

Another short, but really good point and click adventure game by Cloack and Dagger Games. There's not much else to say, if you played one of their games and are looking for another hour or two to spend with great atmosphere, a bit of creepy vibe and some awesome soundtracks, then this game is for you.
