Механика крюка мне до безумия понравилась, но игра не сыскала популярности. Вроде я и понимаю - в ней нет чего-то супер уникального как для рогалика, да и визуал не завлекает по уши. Боссы одинаковые, есть нечестные моменты, когда урон избежать ну никак. Два достижения меня задушили на поиск реликвий и записок - к чему делать повторки? Уж лучше бы они повторялись только после сбора всей коллекции.
Но мне почему-то игра нравится: милота и крюк сделали своё дело, хотя и проходная работа.
Damn, clearing the true ending took some time. The game varies in difficulty between trivially easy and ridiculously unfair. Room filled with enemies that can't shoot and just wait to die - very easy. Room filled with double-shielded green enemies with the double damage bane and you've run out of items, and there's spiked floors and homing rockets and electro-balls - there goes all your health.
The RNG can really screw you over sometimes.
This game isn't taking the sonic or mario route of leading you through a bunch of levels with different designs - you're getting the same rooms a bunch of times - making this more of an arcade experience that tests your control.
I was a little surprised when the global stats showed so few beat the final boss, but, then again, just to fight the final boss requires beating 9 ships, completing the 3 cursed ships, and running the gauntlet of the previous 3 bosses.
Its a bit much for the casual player.
I really dig the pixel art in this game, and the gameplay is super dynamic and fun to master., biuIt does get pretty difficult towards the end. I got distracted by other games, so I never finished it.
It's a great game. It has a lot of personality and charm, tough as nails with a high skill ceiling. It's items aren't super deep though, so don't expect Isaac or Skul level of builds here, it's mostly stats, conditional stats and resources. Hope we get a Flinthook 2.
GOTY 2025, HAWK-HOOK FLINT ON THAT THANG
While there might not be all that many different enemies, this is still one of the run-based twin-stick shooting platformers that I find myself most fond of.
The pixelart is cute and the intro and overall aesthetics just feels like something that should've had a saturday morning cartoon in the early 90s.
Until you get used to the movement you'll usually feel this is mediocre at best. But once you get a hang of the hookshot and slo-mo to aim properly you'll be flying around the screen blowing stuff up.
And the soundtrack...so there might not be all that many different tracks, but they're all high intensity bangers which has seen me boot up the game after a long period of time just to kick ass to.
Meta progression is neat too, allowing you to unlock various powerups to bring along on a run, though the interface for keeping track of what you have and have not selected might be a bit rough, it does give a decent feeling of meta-progression to at least have something to start out with.
Don't go in expecting monumentally broken meta-builds though. Most upgrades are damage output, max health, slo-mo duration etc.
This means no over the top broken runs, but for a guy like me who don't really spend much time planning out good builds, it also means I don't feel like I'm totally playing the game wrong.
In all, if you like pixel art, awesome soundtrack and fast paced bad-assery space-swashbuckling action this is worthy consideration.

Flinthook is a 2D Action Roguelike about space captain flinthook who sets out on a mission to save the cosmos from the space pirates crew.
The game offers 4 different stages (pirate ships) each with multiple rooms filled with platforming and enemy challenges. Most of the room space is tight filled with different kinds of traps from explosives, to spikes, to acid and so on. You need to fight the monsters that appear within challenge rooms and clear the room for rewards and be able to proceed to the next room.
Very challenging yet fun procedural rooms each different from the other. You will also find merchants during your runs that will offer you with different types of goods, from weapon upgrades to trait upgrades.
The soundtracks and music were really nice to listen to during hours of gaming sessions, it will definitely keep you hooked. This game may have released back in 2017, however it was mostly overlook due to its difficulty, once you master the platforming and timings, it gets easier.
It's really recommended for the fans of platforming and Action Roguelike genres.

ルームクリア型のアクションでフックを使った移動も軽快でなかなか面白かった作品だ。
ボスも相応に歯応えがあってボスへ辿り着くまでの道は長いが、アクションゲームとしての完成度は良かった。
ところがボスに負けたとき、評価は一変した。
なんと本作はボスに敗北するとボス前からではなく長いなが～い道中を最初からやり直しとなる。
これが苦痛。
最初からやり直して、その道中で永続的にキャラクタの性能が上がる何かがあればワンチャン耐えられたが、そういったものは一切ないのでやり直しは本当に虚無の気分となる。
FC時代のような昔のシンプルなアクションであれば道中は短いので最初からやり直しとなってもたいしたことはないだろうが、何度も書いているように道中が長いのだ。
それが本当につらい。
そして本作が発売されていた当時の時点で本作より快適性が高く、やり直しも苦ではないアクションゲームは他にもあったのであえてこのゲームに付き合い理由が一切ないのだ。
苦痛にしか感じないゲームデザインなのにどうしてわざわざ付き合う必要があるのだろうか。制作側は競合作品が幾つもある中でどうしてこのゲームデザインで最後まで付き合ってもらえると思っているのか不思議である。
Si les images visibles sur la page du magasin, le [i]gameplay[/i] au grappin souvent imprécis, les incessants aller-retours dans les niveaux et le fait que seul 16% des joueurs ont vaincu le deuxième [i]boss[/i] ne vous refroidissent pas, vous accrocherez probablement à ce [i]rogue-lite[/i] difficile à aborder mais qui cache sûrement quelques trésors.
Great roguelike with amazing art and a good soundtrack. I get Bucky O'Hare vibes from it.
I'm happy with the six hours I got out of this. The movement is really fun, and the art is cool, and the space pirate themeing is charming. I do wish they took these mechanics and put it in a more conventional side-scrolling platformer though. The rogue-lite stuff hurts the game, because it all feels pretty samey after a while. I've gotten bored with it, and I'm not getting that much new stuff on new runs. So I'm done, but I had fun. I'm curious about the dev's other games.

Flinthook is a game that really didn't need to be a rougelike at all. I really enjoy the genre, but Flinthook absolutely made me feel like strategy didn't matter and instead I have to bash my head through a wall until it finally gives in with good RNG.
I thought I was having a "skill issue" moment with the game, but several hours in and I mastered how this game controls (and it controls well), but I didn't feel like I learned anything from the MANY deaths I experienced. A lot of it was hazards I couldn't see at all or just getting in many bad spots where enemies just have the clear advantage of being able to shoot you through walls.
Perks do help but I viewed them as bandaids around the game's design, and even then, Captain Flinthook can have his healthbar demolished in seconds even with the perk that increases invincibility duration.
I dunno man, I wouldn't say this is a bad game, there's a lot to like about it, but I think there's better games in the genre that are more rewarding to sink time into and get good at. This honestly should've been an action platformer with the rougelike elements being a separate mode.

I tried for 10 mins trying to get use to the controls but I could not.....
The mouse movement being tied to player just throws me from any rapid form of precise movement I want, I looked for options because nothing in control scheme.

"Hi all! We've tried all different ways to do this, and locking the cursor around the hero was the only good way to do this with our mechanics.
Unlocking the mouse made it impossible to zip around a level quickly, as you would need to do large, uncomfortable movements to follow the hero on the screen - I know it sounds a bit weird as it is unconventional, but trust us, it wasn't feeling good at all! The way we did it takes just a little bit to get used to, I hope you will enjoy it :)

Update, Found old launch with option that gave more mouse controls made me sad they didn't work.

C'est un peu dommage : le concept est sympa, les graphismes et la musique plutôt cool mais...
C'est dur, beaucoup trop dur pour ce que ça peut apporter de satisfaction.
Ce jeu vous harcèle constamment, par des pièges de partout, très peu visibles, et propose une très faible variété d'ennemis et de décors que l'on recroise en boucle...
Meh !
Le gain de percs est hyper lent, à part si vous êtes naturellement monstrueux au jeu (ce qui n'est pas mon cas) si bien qu'on ne peut que très peu tenter des builds différents à moins d'avoir 20 heures de jeu au bas mot.
C'en est arrivé à un point où j'aimerais continuer de tryhard (parce que je déteste rester sur une défaite), mais celui ci me donne une flemme de fou. Je ne tire aucune satisfaction à y jouer.
Si vous êtes facilement frustré, à fuir à 100%

This is a very solid game for what it is but unfortunately suffers from a lack of variety or content.
Having said that, as you can probably tell, I still recommend this game.
The artstyle and characters are charming and unique, and the worldbuilding is fun and engaging. The items that do exist are good and help to shake the game up a little bit. The progression feels nice, and the pacing is good. Everything about this game is solid.
If you're hoping to have a game you can keep playing over and over for hours and never get bored, though, this unfortunately is not it. It lacks the it factor that a game like Binding of Isaac has. The variety is just a little to constrained, the enemies just a little to predictable. If I could completely change weapons, there were more kinds of hooks, anything like this would have gone a long way towards replayability. And enemies only have one kind of elite, kind of like the Jammed in Enter The Gungeon. If there were more kinds of enemies to give you some variety and break up the monotony that also would have helped.
Overall, it's a very good game, but I would treat it more like a story game than a true roguelike. Which is unfortunate, because i followed this game since early development.

The art, music, and worldbuilding/lore are fantastic.
The game gets very grindy, and is sometimes brutally unfair. I've never rage-quitted, but I have sighed and switched over to something else for a while.
Still, Flinthook is unique enough that I think most platform gamers should give it a try.

FLINTHOOK is a rock-solid, 2d rogue-like grapple-shooter ... thing.
It has very clever game design, art direction-- practically the whole nine yards.
Fun to hop in for 30 min to an hour and blast away.

After 74+ hrs of play, I'm amending some of my older critique & adding some new stuff.
Most of what I said, I'll back up. Still fun as heck, but equally as infuriating when you botch a run.
The real gripe I have is not being able to change perk loadouts between ships. Were I given that chance,
even once per set of missions, I'd be happier, but that's the biggest gripe.
The second gripe is that there are (3) perks somewhere in the game (won't tell you where),
that once you get them It TRULY begins to open up (IMO). I wish this happened sooner for me, but better late than never.
-Third, minor gripe; I wish there were a warp feature inside ships. The game has a nasty habit of CROSSING THE RUBICON on most plays; giving you an obstacle room from HECK some where between that health you passed up earlier, and the boss. Once you made it through, It's Sophie's choice to figure out if it's worth getting shredded on spikes again on your way back to the health that you now need.

All in all, there are going to be some cheap deaths, and pushover moments - that 's the nature of the randomized
beast. These points don't cause me to dislike the game.
FINAL VERDICT: It's a good game that turns great once you have the perk loadout you prefer.
Until then, keep grinding, even if the bosses are slapping you around. It gets better along the way, ;p

Definitely play Rogue Legacy 2 instead. That game is harder to beat, but it's so easy to "read the room" in that game whenever you enter a room that you can race forward without ever stopping. Dead Cells is the same way. Meanwhile with Flinthook, the traps REALLY blend into the environment, so you're going to be punished if you don't stop for a few seconds and locate all the hazards everytime you enter a new room, which really ruins your momentum. It's still beatable, and there's guaranteed healing items in every run, but it's not as fun as it could be.
The haters just suck.
Esse jogo... ele peca na mesma quantidade que ele acerta, ficando em um equilíbrio muito peculiar entre um excelente jogo e um jogo meio mhe.
Porem em questão de direção de arte é um acerto muito bem feito, musica e efeitos sonoros são bem agradais que casam bem com a pixel art bunitinha e fofa fazendo um jogo que me traz ate uma vibe nostálgica por me lembrar de muitos jogos que eu jogava com a mema vibe de jogo com arte fofa.
Na questão de game play que ele fica complicado, ele tem um gancho, eu gosto de mecânica de gancho em jogo 2D, então sobe no meu conceito, o problema é ser tão dependente dele, o boneco e lento, você pula e quase não sai do chão e meu amigo, a coisa mais irritante desse jogo que me faz subir pelas parede e quase não recomendar esse jogo, por que diabos o cursor fica preso ao redor do personagem??? isso é so ruim é so frustrante, é muito estranho ter o mouse preso em uma área tão pequena, não sei se é para tornar o jogo mais difícil ou so uma escolha ruim.
Tirando essa falha catastrófica que acabei de mencionar... Esse jogo é bom, da pra se divertir e gastar umas horas boas nele.

Nearly every run feels the same and most of the gameplay and loot variety doesn't lend itself to enhancing gameplay in any significant way, sure there's optional content to engage with but the core loop is GRATING.
Writing this review years later after seeing an art for it on the publishers YouTube channel... I can attest that this game is a waste of your time and there's plenty of better games in the genre to spend your time with (for the same price OR even less)

Le jeu est mal foutu, répétitif, il faut énormément de farm pour avoir des bonnes cartes, une fois fini il perd tout son intérêt, les succès sont pas ouf. Trop de trucs ne vont pas, je recommande vraiment pas.
super charming GBA-style aesthetic, marred by numerous bizarre design choices. The worst of which is an enemy who appears randomly, and continuously fires a laser at you non-stop until you're dead. Who thought this was a good idea?
Every few years I think "why did I stop playing that great looking Flinthook game?" and then I play for a while and get to this garbage and remember why and uninstall it again.
I really, really tried here. Have played plenty of roguelites and difficult platformers. I tried this once, failed at it, came back later, but just failing again.
Maybe there's some kind of OP perk combo that I'm missing here, but the rooms are often built in a ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ way. It's not really forgiving either; you can have an amazing run, and then have that one room where you fall into a trap you can't get out of and get 130 damage trying to get out, with a lifebar up until 150. (No invulnerability if you get hit, unless you find/unlock a certain perk very randomly)
I give up, I'll watch a lets play on youtube for someone who spent more hours into it. That's what is needed eventually, hours of your time, just to immediately recognise the type of rooms and being able to see immediately what the danger zones are. They're really unclear and more often than not, the way to clear the room is absolutely disastrous.

Pretty cool and underrated Rogue Like, you play as a space pirate of sorts, you get a gun, and a hook -as the name of the game implies-, you can use this hook through the multitude of rooms in different spaceships to traverse, avoid obstacles, and maneuver around enemies; as you progress you level up and unlock cards that you can equip before boarding a ship, each of these cards provide different bonuses like higher XP gain, more health, or an increased critical chance.
The combat and traversal is good, the visuals & aesthetic are charming and distinctive, and overall, I would say it's a definitely good Rogue like game. If I were to complain about two big problems is that on one hand: the game doesn't let you rebind keys, which is a huge problem; and on the other hand, the game has difficulty spikes. For the most part the game is fairly easy, but then you can go into a room with a cyclops enemy pirate that shoots an endless laser beam and takes a ridiculous amount of damage, effectively turning the game into an exercise in patience, because of the proceeding grind you have to commit to before tackling the many challenges in your way.
The base gameplay cycle is that after you board a number of ships, you get a particular currency that then you can feed to an alien creature that serves as your compass, feed enough and eventually you get access to the boss battle; there are more than four bosses in the game, so imagine doing this time and time again; it can get tedious at times.
But generally though? I thought the gameplay loop was good, and the game was fun for what it is, I don't think is a Rogue Like that will blow you away, but it's certainly not a bad game.
There was a point in time where I was actively addicted to this game. Got on the pro controls and set up my Steam Controller for specific bindings and everything. The last time I played it was on my Switch and had to readjust, but I still found it to be loads of fun. If you're into platforming and enjoy / tolerate rogue lites, it's a pretty easy recommendation.
La base de un Roguelike suele ser la experimentación, ver que combinación épica de armas o items te puede tocar y usar tus habilidades gamer para ganar la partida y eventualmente continuar con el ciclo, la repetición es parte de la esencia, y por eso se nota muchísimo cuando esta hecho para el culo, si bien el arte de Flinthook esta bien y tiene su gracia, todas las partidas se sienten exactamente iguales, las mejoras son bastante mediocres, las layouts de las naves apenas varían y no les veo ni una pizca de personalidad, también esta la mecánica del gancho, y para darle el nombre al juego se me hizo super meh
It's got a cute style, some nice music, and a couple unique mechanics, but it's as deep as a kiddie pool. The grapple mechanic is flawed from the very beginning because your hook is way too short. GRAPPLES NEED TO BE LONG! The gun also lacks range making it so you have to get way too close to the enemies. The time slowing mechanic gets old fast and doesn't synergize well with the other mechanics because you're often limited by your movement and weapon options, not your reaction time. The locking boot button is on the same hand as time stop, meaning to do both requires two fingers on the left shoulder buttons which is awkward. The levels become repetitive quickly. The hook placement is scattershot so it always feels awkward traveling between hooks. The subweapons and perks all suck. The bosses take too long to kill... I tried getting into this game, but I'm not gonna "git gud" on the same boring content over and over in order to potentially see something new. I'm going back to Returnal.
Made me wanna kill myself. 10/10 amazing game, and one of the few roguelikes that isn't entirely up to RNG.

An absolute gem worth every penny. Fast paced and smooth, rewarding players who are resourceful. Highly recommend it, buy it and try it esp. if it's on sale. Everyone saying it is hard need to git gud.
I'm usually a fan of platforming games and roguelikes but flinthook failed to hook me in any way. It has fine artwork and passing music but the majority of this game is a fairly standard old fashioned platformer that sees you roaming around small arenas clearing the rooms and collecting treasure.
The movement gimmick of being able to hook around the screen didn't feel well implemented though as the controls are a bit stiff and given that everything hurts you you're more likely to fling yourself into harms way than away from it. There's not really any motivation to use it aside from adding moving for movements sake or when you need to ascend. It doesn't feel smooth and adds little to the actual game loop which is highly repetitive.
That leaves the roguelite gameplay and the label feels like an exaggeration. You have randomly tiled assortments of screens dotted around and you clear the enemies on each until you find the treasure. Maybe I just didn't get deep enough to see more than that but the first 10 minutes seems representative of the next 3 hours so I think I got the gist.
An indie darling I just couldn't vibe with. Didn't feel innovative or seem to be doing anything fresh beyond the title feature that didn't impress me with its implementation.
Flinthook has the makings of a great game, but I had two major gripes with it. First of all, the controls aren't great. I tried both Default and Pro, but just couldn't get them to be quite what I wanted. The sad thing is that if I could customize my controls (Including things like hold vs tap for fire, and setting lock in place vs not), I'm sure I could get them feeling great, but they only have options for Default or Pro. The second major issue is that their levels are a bit crowded/messy. There's so much stuff that it's hard to pick out what's background, what's shootable, what's a platform, etc. In particular, the spiky balls, lasers, and spiky head enemies are difficult to see, leading to me getting hit without even noticing what hit me.

The game is beautiful and has an amazing soundtrack, but is lackluster when it comes to gameplay. The difficulty curve is frustrating and it has one of the worst control schemes I've ever encountered whether on controller or keyboard and mouse.
If you can get past the kinks its a good game.

Otherwise a good roguelike, lots of charm, single player games like this literally have infinite replayability
Once you unlock the "Featherfall" card, the game becomes a lot more humanly reactable in the later difficulties as it gives you 2 options of gliding or fast falling, in response to the huge amount of Kaizo-like obstacles and screen full of projectiles, this helps immensely

신나는 후크액션 로그라이크를 기대하고 했는데 막상 그냥 방하나들어갈때마다 한대는 쳐맞으라고 구조를 만들어놈. 이건 어렵다가 아니라 그냥 부조리한게임이다라는 생각을 들게함. 무엇보다 최악은 게임이 죄다회색에 어두운계열이고 구조물이 많은데 색감때문에 가시트랩종류는 진짜 눈에 뛰질않음. 회피나 페링,이단점프이딴거 심지어 대쉬같은것도 없어서 피하는게 아주 심플해서 부조리함을 느낌. 후크로 피해야하는데 어떻게 조절하는지 감이 안옴. 가끔 버블로 감싸진 적은 버블을 터트려야하는데 분홍버블은 특정적을 잡아야 텨지는데 그걸 또 보호하게 배치돼기도함. 그냥 제작자가 게임은 재밌게 만들 생각은 안하고 그냥 유저 화나라고 만든게임. 절때 정가주고 사지마셈.

En este rogue-lite abordas naves-pirata espaciales buscando a tus hermanos en cada run y vas mejorando equipándote habilidades en forma de carta y consiguiendo mejoras globales (más vida, etc.)
Está bastante fino si te gustan los rogue-lites, likes, o como hostia se llamen. Los juegos de las runs. Tú me entiendes.
the room design is just across the board not good. i understand that it's randomly generated but it doesnt feel good to play through the rooms because of how insanely bad they play out.
on top of that, visual clarity is sorely lacking. for a game that demands you to pay attention relatively fast to what is happening, everything blends together and gives you no real time to sit still to properly parse the game's visuals.
gameplay is mostly fine, but every time i pick it up i'm reminded why i put it down.
Absolutely a hidden gem amongst the indie game scene that may seem less approachable than its peers due to the high difficulty, but once you can squeeze through the challenges that this game imposes you'll find a really complete and fleshed out roguelike with tons of variety and content to make every run feel different, with a beautiful visual style and smooth graphics that make this a criminally underrated title. Honestly the only thing it's missing is a little more accessibility options and we'd have an instant classic, I highly recommend you give it a chance!
Game makes me feel like a bumbling idiot, 8/10
Flinthook is one of those games that are really complicated to recommend, when you first start the game feels like garbage, but It gets better.
When I first started playing I had a really hard time, the controlls are weird and there are a million stuff happening every screen, I kept dieng with no progress.
But after a while (around 3 hours of gameplay) I got some good upgrades and got used to the controls, after that the game becomes really addictive.
One big complaint I have with this game is the collectables (relics and lore pages), you get It at random while playing, and you can get duplicates, so If you want to get everything be ready to restart your runs a lot.
I really recommend this game if you like platform shooter and roguelites, just be patient with the first few hours.
Hook game make me gay
Don't be fooled by time played I have played much more than shows here but am incredibly disappointed by the developers seeming disinterest in making intuitive mouse + keyboard controls due to one thing and one thing only; The cursor being locked to the player. This wouldn't inherently be bad if you had an alternative but you don't and with a game where quick reactions are necessary due to a lack of invulnerability and you only being able to avoid things using the movement options a control scheme that feels good to the player is necessary but for me and a lot of others whose prefer to play on mouse + keyboard a weird limiting design choice such as this makes mouse + keyboard feel excruciating although it is such an easy addition to just allow the player the choice to unlock the cursor if they so choose. The game if you want to play on controller is above average nothing groundbreaking but a potentially fun movement mechanic that at the best of times feels effortless and endlessly enjoyable makes it a great game but over anything making the game feel good to the player is priority number one despite what you may think personally of a design choice if your community's growth is stifled because you refuse to change things then you only have yourself to blame.
My very first roguelite experience and a damn good one I must say.
Previously I had never delved into the genre due to lack of knowledge about what exactly it encompassed. Having each level randomized was something I did not consider at first to be a thing, nor having abilities between runs, so my urgency to complete them like a typical dungeon crawler kicked in and bite me good during the first ones. Later on I started getting in the mood, strategizing about what I needed to upgrade next, betting on which rooms to go next and which ones to avoid, and of course, traversing through with the game's highlight: the hookshot mechanic.
That's what really hooked me (heh) from the trailers. Not the aesthetics even if I'm sometimes biased towards pixel art, nor the chiptune music which reminds me of series like Mega Man with a certain pirate style. It just seemed like fun and upon controlling it I can confirm as such. The moment the hook fits is precise enough to be satisfactory, adding the corresponding sound effect when it lands and it made for some quite memorable boss fights (even now, years after I got my first hands on the game). Furthermore, the enemies had some quirky designs and the achievements with some patience are honestly not that impossible to get (I'm honestly baffled by how few people bothered to get them all as well).
In any case, after clocking in more than 50 hours which definitely felt like way less, this is a sure recommendation if you're into roguelite, snappy movements, hookshot or just pirates in general.

Creo que ya he jugado lo suficiente a Flinthook como para opinar sobre él. Es mi primer Rogue-Lite así que hay cosas que diré no muy acertadamente.
Flinthook es un muy buen juego. Eso es verdad. Es un Rogue-Lite muy bien hecho que entiende lo más importante de su género y lo hace bien.
Flinthook entra por los ojos y eso está claro. Yo lo he jugado por su estilo artístico y ese pixel art tan bonito y me he quedado por la jugabilidad tan fluida que tiene. Además, el soundtrack está bastante bien.
La jugabilidad está muy bien. Los controles son híper fluídos y es muy gratificante saber moverse con el gancho y esquivar ataques de enemigos a velocidades vertiginosas. El diseño de niveles (supuestamente aleatorios) está bastante bien, aunque se me ha hecho un poco repetitivo. Aunque cada run se siente distinta gracias a las cartas que podemos poner antes de cada run, que nos darán distintas ventajas.
Me parece una muy buena idea que la historia se recopile en una sección del menú principal y creo que deberían hacerlo más juegos, pero que el juego no te explica nada si no entras a esa sección, cosa que me molesta mucho.
En resumen, Flinthook hace bastantes cosas y en su mayoría, las hace genial. Recomendadísimo (aunque si lo jugáis en sesiones muy largas puede llegar a ser frustrante por su dificultad)
Es entretenido de jugar, es rápido y ágil... cuando quiere, siento que lo que más destaca del juego es el apartado visual, es llamativo pero muy sobrecargado, muchas veces se recibe daño sin enterarse de donde proviene esa fuente de daño, sobre todo cuando viene del entorno que varios elementos pasan desapercibidos o se mezclan con los fondos. Tiene potencial pero se siente meeeh en el inicio, una vez te hagas con la dinámica del gancho y te desplaces por el mapa como corresponde se siente mejor. Si te gustan los juegos dificiles y los roguelikes dale una probadita, no está nada mal, pero tampoco es el mejor
This game is great! It has a nice, simple story, beautiful pixel art and fun mechanics! But one thing is certain...this game is HARD. Like, hard hard. It's fair, but the level design and some of the enemies punish you VERY MUCH if you're not careful. But it's a fun challenge! I definitely recommend this game to people that like a good, challenging platformer!

Flinthook é o perfeito exemplo da não aplicação das boas práticas de game design em um jogo, apresentando inúmeras problemáticas, fico surpreso como uma empresa como a Tribute deixa isso acontecer.
Começando pela engenharia das próprias fases, sendo elas mal elaboradas e com problemas como: Inimigos estacionários que assim que o jogador entra na sala não tem tempo para reagir aos projéteis. Foram inúmeras as vezes que morri desta maneira.
Outro grande problema foi a péssima escolha de cores para as ameaças. A exemplo disto, temos os espinhos que tem a mesma cor das decorações e não dão o feedback ao jogador. Muitas vezes Eu recebia dano sem saber por que estava me ferindo ou mesmo aterrissava em plataformas que Eu acreditava serem seguras, mas apresentavam armadilhas de espinhos retráteis. Isso sem falar nos espinhos que ficavam por trás dos campos de força avermelhados, que são desativados com slowmotion, e ao saltar nos campos de força o Flint colidia com o espinho.
Sobre a navegação das fases: às vezes tentar reinventar a roda pode ser a maior cilada que um game design pode cometer e para mim isso acontece com a péssima escolha na tomada de decisão para as portas serem ativadas com o gancho, muitas vezes troquei de sala sem ser esta a minha intenção. Por que não tomar como referência jogos clássicos como Metroid??
Voltando um pouco a falar sobre o design artístico, os locais onde o gancho do Flint gruda não recebe o destaque necessário. Por vezes disparei em uma porta ou procurava a porta, mas ela ficava disfarçada em meio aos locais que o gancho conseguia grudar.
Indo agora para a estrutura do jogo em si, o sistema de ícones não transmite a mensagem de forma clara para o jogador, sobre quais os tipos de ameaças serão encontradas em cada fase. Durante as oitenta e três horas que levei analisando este jogo nunca consegui compreender o que cada ícone significa com exceções dos óbvios, como comida, mapa quebrado ou a neblina.
Sendo um jogador que sempre personaliza o mapa do controle esse ponto me incomodou, o jogo disponibiliza apenas dois modos de controle, o casual (que mais atrapalha o jogador, do que ajuda) e o profissional (que de profissional não tem nada). O jogador não poder personalizar os controles ao meu ver gerou inúmeros problemas. Durante toda a experiência do jogo usei apenas o modo casual e com isso o gancho ficou no gatilho direito, um botão lento devido ao tempo necessário para enviar o comando inerente à própria estrutura do botão. Muitas vezes não conseguia disparar o gancho de um ponto ao outro sem cair em espinhos ou fogo. Isso sem mencionar que a precisão do gancho para o auto target ser bastante ineficiente.
Olhando para a mobilidade do herói, Flint se move de maneira pouco precisa e como se isso não bastasse como um problema em si, você colocar para baixo faz com que o nosso herói caia mais rápido, criando assim mais um degrau no aprendizado do jogo. E não acaba por aí, as molas que arremessam o Flint tem uma altura um controle não intuitivo, gerando problemas. Tendo três alturas diferentes:
Quando o flint pula: alcançando uma maior altura;
Altura média: sendo a altura neutra.
Pulo baixo: segurando para baixo.
Por último, o slidewall foi a habilidade mais inútil durante todo o tempo que joguei, o Flint escorregava muito rápido, quase não fazendo diferença com a queda normal. Todos esses acúmulos de problemáticas (ao meu ver) na movimentação me passou a impressão que o projeto não estava bem definido para qual caminho seguir.
(Nota pessoal: senti muita falta em um jogo neste estilo um pulo duplo)
Por fim, acredito ser esta a minha única sugestão, acredito que a existência de um upgrade do mapa seria mais eficiente do que encontrá-lo em uma sala randômica. Acho que foi uma escolha sem sentido, dada a quantidade de vezes em que esta sala apareceu na penúltima sala da run, tornando o mapa inútil, minha sugestão seria criar um upgrade que liberasse o mapa de cada mundo semelhante a dificuldade liberada ao passar para o próximo mundo, pois isso poderia tornar o jogo mais rápido em runs futuras.
Muy bien sus 2 primeros jefes (con todos sus niveles, aclaro), pero el 3 nivel es algo increible como escala la dificultad. Aun asi es muy entretenido.
Really wanted to love this game, but it's very angering simply because everything on screen blends together so you can't easily see what is harmful or what is coming towards you or where you can or can't land.
There's no clear indicator for trapped platforms, most platforms that bear obvious warning signs are actually safe. Enemy rooms have a special warning effect at the start that hides a good portion of the screen, but you can take damage while it's there and you sometimes are in direct danger during that time.
Some enemies have no telegraphed attacks, there's even one enemy you encounter during the first boss that is immune when it spawns but become attackable after it finishes it's first attack and there's absolutely no visual changes in between so I just assumed it was always immune.
The actual platforming isn't that good either, you keep some sideways momentum when you bounce or grapple on hooks which means you end up throwing yourself in harm's way most of the time. A lot of rooms also just feel unfairly punishing.
I can't recommend this game mostly because enemies, projectiles, traps, breakable objects and plafroms/walls all blend together and with the background so you can't tell what is going on most of the time.

本作是比較輕量的 Roguelite 動作遊戲，玩家扮演一名星際海盜，入侵別人的海盜船並偷走船內最深處的寶藏。可愛的像素風格美術就算以 2022 的標準來也很棒，角色與怪物的動畫也很生動。玩法也挺有趣，主角有類似《隻狼》的鉤索裝備，透過瞄準房間內懸掛的金環進行空中移動。主角有特殊能力能在短時間內讓時間流動速度變慢，不僅在戰鬥上提供優勢，也是跨越某些地圖陷阱所必需的能力。關卡設計方面，變化是有但不算大，喜歡 Rogue 類遊戲的玩家可能會比較失望。
再來談談操作設計，這遊戲在這方面較欠缺琢磨。操作方式分為鍵盤+滑鼠、手把兩種，且一律無法自定義按鍵。我們分別來看兩者差異，鍵盤+滑鼠，最垃圾的地方在於，滑鼠的移動範圍被限縮在以鉤索的抓取距離為半徑、主角為圓心的一個圓內，且遊戲內沒有滑鼠靈敏度的相關設定，這操作起來就很蛋疼了。至於手把，在使用 PRO 操作模式下比起鍵鼠更為順手，且 Steam 支援手把鍵位修改。所以，就目前來說我會推薦用手把遊玩。

遊戲是好遊戲，但身為一個 Roguelite 遊戲，通關後的重玩價值比較沒那麼高。整體而言，我還是偏向推薦這款遊戲，但不值得原價入手。

(por el momento estoy en el tercer jefe) Es súper adictivo, tiene un gran apartado visual y el soundtrack tiende a ser pegadizo, siendo sincero, yo no lo juego de forma corrida, casi siempre me dan rachas de jugarlo, pero termino hartándome de la dificultad y se queda en mi galería por meses, pero a pesar de todo, posee una parte de mi que ve al juego como fascinante y divertido, nunca lo eliminaría de mi colección de juegos. Like most of the other reviews I see. i want to like this game but the actual game play itself just becomes frustrating and repetitive. traps are so hard to see while trying to dodge enemies it just doesn't feel fun.

Solidly fun rougelite. Any game with a grapple hook is immediately 20% cooler. Great music, pixel art and gameplay. Definitely worth picking up.
Do you like to run, jump, and shoot? Well this game has plenty of that. But after a few dozen tries I gave up on the second boss. I ran out of new things to see on the way, sort of. There is a ton of platforming variety, but less battle arena variety. It's either wide open with some hazards, or more cramped than exit the gungeon. But hay, was worth the price.
Now I aint no fancy computer doctor but I feel like ideally this game could have been made to function with windows installed.

Flinthook is a solid roguelike that takes inspiration from Metroid and The Binding of Isaac to create a fun and fast paced adventure. The graphics and music are beautiful and the gameplay is entirely unique. While the story is a little lacking, at least in terms of relevance to the gameplay, that by no means bogs down Flinthook. Just be sure to use the "pro" controls setting if you're using a controller.

I really wanted to like this one as a fan of another game by Tribute (Mercenary King; Monster Hunter meets Contra, check it out) + pixelart indies in general.
Fine sound design and artstyle.
The platforming in isolation is fun.
The combat is a bit mindless but passable.
The controls are not great to begin with, but they really become a problem when doing combat *while* paltforming. Which the game tries to do a lot:
You always aim the grappling hook in the same direction you shoot.
This means you must constantly awkwardly alternate between gunning enemies and using your hook because your other mobility options are pretty bad comparatively.
Sometimes given the high count of traps you have to also play floor is lava on top of that.
As you drunkenly fumble on stage hazards you'll notice invincibility frames are not very generous either.
If you decide to try it out anyway, I strongly recommend to immediately get accustomed to the pro controls option also (...Which you can't remap to your liking :/).
The default ones are even worse and force you to aim where you're moving at, exacerbating the clunky combat-platforming.
Note I didn't play long enough to unlock double jump and went for other upgrades first, so mayyybe if you grind out mobility upgrades first it becomes more playable but out of the box, eesh.
I am super stuck in this game. Every time I get close to progessing, I get smacked down by a boss or a cheap room and have to go back to square one.
It's lovely though. The animation is fluid and looks really nice (especially in the opening), and the music is SUPER catchy. Tentative recommendation if you can handle losing progress, or if you're just more skilled than me.
