Not the same life changing experience as the first game, however it was a really fun and wacky successor with a lot of different storylines that I was invested in, and some great characters! I would've liked to have more depth with some of the characters, notably the slimes as they have lots of potential, but I still think the game is definitely worth playing, as it was really fun.

i just can't. i played the first and i dont like that game either. i desperately wanted to like the first game, but tldr its a cheap undertale knock off and the weird buddhism story beats feel like some im 14 and this is deep ♥♥♥♥. this game is definitely not a rip off of anything from what i can tell, but it just sucks. Combat? It's *fine*. The actual progression and character leveling and weapons? Makes no sense at all, . Story? I have no ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ clue and I couldn't give a damn. Every character I just want them to shut the ♥♥♥♥ up and stop trying to be funny and quirky. Every attempt at humor falls flat and it just makes me hate everything. There's no comedic timing or jokes at all really, weird ♥♥♥♥ just happens randomly and its lol xd. I hate this game. (no i didnt finish it but i cant bear to)

the game itself is good, music you would expect to find in everhood, cool effects and fights feel good, but if you are expecting story rich gameplay like in the first game then you will be disappointed
i was disappointed at first but i gave it a chance as a separate game and i liked it in the end, although theres a lot of repetitive fights, we dont need gorillion versions of the same enemy just named differently

Hate to give it a thumbs down because I do think it should be experienced, but also god don't play it. Everhood 1 is an all time classic that touches the heart and soul, and I completely 100% UNDERSTAND the vision and meaning 2 is going for... but just because they went for it, stuck the landing, and delivered on it, doesn't mean it's much fun. The purpose of this game is to give you lots of "Fun" things to do, while giving you a deep-seated feeling that you aren't actually having any fun and that none of it matters. And it nails it. So it's not fun.

I held off buying this for awhile since I heard it got mixed reviews and I gotta say I don't get it. I understand the repeat battles can be a little annoying but I actually enjoyed Everhood 2 more than 1. Also the battles don't repeat often enough for me to get sick of them and I think its fun to start remember the song patterns in the common enemies. Really loved this game one of the coolest experiences on steam for sure.

1代重劇情,2代重戰鬥,音樂的部份都還好,比較適合不care劇情的玩家,我覺得2代就是給1代戰鬥玩不夠的人玩的DLC,這也是2代唯一能跟1代比較的優點,說實在劇情或是演出都普通甚至是不知所云(前作沒這麼誇張)。

新玩家要買我會強烈推薦先玩1代,破過前作且喜歡戰鬥的部份再考慮買2代,如果你想要與1代同等級的劇情體驗,那我不會推薦2代。

Yep this sure was an Everhood 2
I'm a big fan of the gameplay in this one, with one simple change (charging up attacks) they made the combat way more fun and engaging, so that's a big W in my book, + the bossfights have really good charting in general
The soundtrack is still peak and it's as good as the first game's ost. The visuals are amped up to 11 now, the devs have learned to create even crazier effects than before and I'm sure at least 1 epileptic person has died playing this
But the story, man… I mean it's there somewhere I guess, like, it has a plot for 1/3rd of the game but after you kill the Dragon it just goes downhill completely
For the rest of the game things just happen with no rhyme or reason, at one point I thought I was fighting the final boss... 4 times in a row and the game was SOMEHOW still going. Everhood 1 set a really high bar in the story department and I think they just gave up, knowing they cannot top it
All in all I've had my fun (plus my mushroom is in the game so I'm totally not biased teehee) even though the plot is lacking, the gameplay made it up for me... mostly...

我過了好久才買二代(因為太多遊戲要玩...所以就一直在蹲特價,然後直到下一個作品預告出來了w,就決定買了)
雖然很多人會跟上一代劇情...去做比較,而且如果有認真看上一代的劇情的情況下...就會發現有不少的衝突...跟...一些人會覺得劇情上很不滿...但是如果玩家用另外一個角度去思考的話...就會發現一件事情..如果撇除一代劇情..我們可以當作這又是一個不同時間線的分支...就當作是另一個可能性
只是一照上一代的結局...雖然原本不排除作者在加結局的可能性...但是我沒想到這次的結局應該要當作是 [spoiler] 一條線的結局嗎...? 後來去查資料好像沒有分支結局....[/spoiler]
我本身很喜歡玩音樂遊戲...跟難度高的遊戲..所以這一代我一開始就選擇了困難
但是整體玩起來...我覺得比上一代簡單,尤其是成就方面..上一代我真的完全沒有解全成就的...心力...無傷真的太難了...

我現在更期待的是下一代...跟認識的人一起玩感覺會很有趣

If you liked the combat of the first game, particularly the latter half, this game is definitely for you. It takes the same basic concept and makes it the primary focus, with battles being far more common and diverse. If your favorite part of the first game was the story then you will likely be disappointed. I found the story of this one to be a bit incoherent. Things just kind of happen without much explanation or build up. Lots of things happen but they don't really matter. It almost feels like they had multiple "ideas" for main plotlines and instead of choosing one they just did all of them at the same time, sometimes consecutively, sometimes in parallel. In a way I think that's kind of the point. It's a world between life and death where no one really dies so everyone occupies themselves with whatever they can to pass the time. It's not as impactful as the first game, but overall still a very unique and interesting.

All that said, I really did love this game. The soundtrack is great, the characters are interesting, and despite my misgivings about the plot I found it hard to put down, especially towards the end.

Everhood 2 is by no means a bad sequel, a lot of people say the gameplay improves but the story heavily falls short. The way I see the Everhood's is Everhood 1 is the curse of immortality and Everhood 2 is a different side of that coin, you see characters that try to make the most of this infinite experience by causing constant chaos unique and fun journeys as they go on to what seems to be no end. So I feel like Everhood 2 adds to Everhood by giving the series a different perspective and overall a new view. Also people that say this is a "random sequel" didn't pay attention to the fact that Irvine and Sam are in Everhood and are in Everhood 2 as major characters. If you enjoyed Everhood give this game a try no matter what people say and I would highly recommend this game.

Everhood 2 is a devine comedy. Okay now that I got the flashy hook I should actually explain why I think this game is the best you could want from a sequel. The original Everhood is a game that can't really be followed up, any mimicking of the same message would be an antithesis to the message of the first. Everhood 2 instead takes you on a rollercoaster of chaos which is where alot of people disconnect with the game. The story is less traditional than the first game, the feeling of being lost and unsure about what was happening or going to happen was prevalent through the entire game, start to end, but that's part of what makes it so fun. It makes me feel like a child having their hand grabbed and being pulled past things I've never seen before, unsure of what the point of it was. The ending of Everhood 2 was something that I have only seen absolute love for or absolute hate for, I know personally that at the end of everything I was nearly rolling on the floor, after the constant barrage of characters and areas and choices and everything, that ending was just the hammer to glass that really made Everhood 2 be cemented as a gem. Don't get me wrong Everhood 2 didn't really have the same effect on me as the original Everhood, but I didn't expect it too either, it's okay for a sequel to be different and try its own thing and have its own message. Everhood 2 is a game that makes me happy, its unbelievably funny and outlandish and that's why I think its an amazing sequel. If Everhood was about enjoying life and not fearing death then what is Everhood 2 but an enjoyment of that life?
I probably haven't gotten my point across and been more rambly then I should've but I'm fine with that. I hope that if you haven't played Everhood 2 that you atleast try and play it to the end, form your own opinions not those of others. If you have played Everhood 2 and disliked it then I'm sorry. I wish you could've enjoyed this game, but ask yourself what did you actually *want* from Everhood 2?

This mess killed the whole point of the first game.

The good: amazing music as always, combat's better than the first game.

The bad: On the contrary to the first game, this one's filled with a completely forgettable cast, forgettable fights, and forgettable moments. They move on from moment to moment so quick because if you actually took a moment to digest what was going on you could see that there was no intended continuance. The "ending" to me showed no respect for the series or the players time and investment. I understand it's what's in line with the message of the game, but that doesn't make it good.

Now they're making a roguelike and bringing the main character back from the first game because there's zero recognition on what made the first game so good in the first place.

Just leave it off on everhood one.

Everhood 2 is a weird game. The first game was basically perfect and they decided to take the wrong lessons. The story was loved for it's bizarre but heartful story, not the random stuff. The sequel has a story that is just purely a complete waste of time to even read or care about. It's ADHD, throw every possible thing that ends in a completely unfulfiling manner.

That said if you enjoyed the combat like me, they did deliver on that, it's just the music isn't tied to an emotional or epic moment from the story that further elevated the music. The variety of songs was enough for me to have bought the soundtrack again. The combat was changed to a more RPG style where you get different weapons, types of attacks and can build up a meter to allow one shotting every single enemy in the game. I liked this change because If it didn't change it up, this game woud just be a terrbile game for being Everhood again but ♥♥♥♥. Instead the combat and visual is still a big enough draw to enjoy.

Just go in knowing that nothing will be able like Everhood, it was a surprise none of knew was gonna be peak. We went in to this sequel expecting to be perfect and the developers made a massive mistake with the writing that I hope they learned from and will take notice on their next game. That said I do recommend it because while I remember and cared nothing of the story, I enjoyed the fact that there is alot variety and lengths of songs by going more into an RPG that I hope they expand in a sequel. Also I love the design and style of the game.

I held off leaving a review but decided I would now do so because though my initial thoughts on the game were mixed, I still had a lot of fun with this even if the story didn't make sense to me at first.

While it does suck the story initially confused me and felt flat in comparison to everhood 1 I really enjoyed the battles and music a lot, yes there are a lot of tracks that aren't as memorable (the basic rpg enemies) but the unique battles have some really awesome tracks and I quite enjoyed those fights and the new combat system.

Watching the retrospective the devs put out a day ago and hearing the intentions behind this game make me appreciate it a lot more, i'm glad to see they tried to make something thoughtful here even if some parts don't quite hit. Overall I wouldn't say this game is bad at all, it has some parts that are kind of mid and other parts that I did enjoy a lot its nothing outstanding but thats ok.

Having put my attention back on this game after the retrospective, I realized I didn't leave a review for this game. I figured it would be worth sharing how my playthrough went, because I think it was something quite special, and what worked about it deserves to be noted for anyone looking to play this game. A few things on what it was like going in:

[*] Me and a family member decided to play this after getting through Everhood 1, and I think this did a lot to set expectations for this game. We went in with the expectation that the plot was going to take some wild swings, which it did. Bear in mind that we were already 90% of the way toward going along with whatever the game was willing to attempt.
[*] We did not play this game solo, most of it was actively doing voicework for the characters and prodding at events in ways that would be the most fun for the other person watching. It's fairly lucky that as a result of this, most of the jokes this game has that would expect a certain timing tended to land very well. There's some very memorable moments in this game, but I can't say with confidence whether the parts where the game felt prescient for us might seem more aimless for others.
[*] We had already made a habit of playing games together over the course of several days, having done so for quite a few games prior. The ability to take games over a long course of time definitely affected how we felt during the parts of this game that took longer to get through. Having the ability to switch out lended a lot more patience for the more difficult sections, and the fact that one of us had prior experience with some of the more difficult battles and gamemodes of Everhood 1 really made the difference.

All that being said, we both really enjoyed our time with Everhood 2. We had a lot of fun voicing the characters, and many of the highlights landed as intended as well as the weaker elements were significantly mitigated. Thinking about it in hindsight, I will admit that the story had some things that needed work - the scope of Everhood 2 is quite large when many of the events lack a clear thematic throughline (although the retrospective cleared a lot up about what the intention was in a way I find very interesting), and a fair number of the events are fun in the moment but ultimately lead to a sporadic narrative in a way that contributes to an overall sense of poor impulse control in the writing, both of which can lead to feeling as though the game struggles to actualize itself and the elements it introduces at times. Purely as an experience though, I appreciate the care put towards the raw experience of this game, which I do think shines through more than a few times throughout. The music and the battles are both spectacular in this one, in some ways better than Everhood.

Ultimately I think game can be very fun, but if you've read the other reviews on this game you more than likely have a good gauge on whether it'll be fun for you. Definitely recommend playing with someone else, for the reasons bulleted above. This game is at its best with a particular headspace, but I cannot deny that my time with it was a blast and I would recommend it to anyone able to reach somewhere similar to where I was going in. My feelings are a little complicated, but writing this has certainly helped, and if you're coming to a decision on this game I hope that these thoughts can help to clarify your own conclusions as well.

As someone who got into everhood 1 because of the soundtrack I played Everhood one and loved it. once i found out 2 was on its way i was stoked and grabbed it day 1, when i first completed 2 I was slightly disapointed with the story, but later on a whim I decided to show some of my friends both games back to back and after that second everhood 2 playthrough I've got to say i genuinly enjoy 2 more than the first game (even if I rather greedly wanted more official post release update battles).

After the replaying of both games I was able to enjoy the story of 2 so much more (even though i still feel left with questions about why certain people and places where present in 2 and how it related to the story of 1) than I had done on my first time through. Certain moments wound up felling more impactful and as a result left a memorable mark that and I often love idly listening to the soundtracks (though was always sad that cat gods hairball and mushroom party songs where never added to the everhood 2 soundtrack). To parapharse a certain shadow. "If the way cannot be found, it must be made" so thank you Foreign Gnomes I am very much looking forward to whatever you do next!

theres no "main" character, fighting in a rhythm game ruins the WHOLE GAME, no main character = bad story, all "fights" in the game is not about dodging but about beating the encounter as fast as possible this goes for all bosses and the cool music you wont hear or will listen on repeat for 10 mins trying to get a combo to one tap

The screwed up thing is I think this is a decent game but because of how GOOD the first one was it really hurts to see this game just not deliver. The core combat itself was a major improvement. However the story blows. Another issue is the amount of boring repeat enemies there are. It was incredibly unfun during that one sequence where I had to fight waves after waves of enemies near the end of the game. Alright game on it's own, but if you just played the first one and was looking to play this, I am extremely hesitant to recommend. 6/10

Не такая классная как первая часть. Сюжета нет, бои часто повторяются и ОСТ простых противников очень короткий, и раздражающий. ПОЧТИ ВСЕ коды для лифта которые я находил приводили к коридору с унитазом и только 2-3 это что-то +- интересное.
Миры мастерской это прикольно, но на момент написания обзора их всего 31. Всё твоё оружие и талисманы у тебя отбирают, и надо проходить их без смертей.
Был не один момент когда игра "заканчивалась" и снова продолжалась. Реальный конец меня разочаровал

Ganz schön repetitive gestaltet. Das einzig interessante ist der Kampf an sich, aber das ist etwas, das ich bereits im ersten Teil genossen hatte. If Everhood 1 is a ghost train ride, this is a rollercoaster. A far lower emphasis on player choice, but a higher emphasis on "wow cool boss fight!"
It might not be for you, but if Everhood 1 wasn't and you're still here somehow, it might be for you! They're two very different games tonally, and play differently too! Everhood 2 is far more aggressive than even the sections of Everhood that let you fight back.

If you've played Everhood 1, make sure you see Yellow before playing this - it makes things make more sense!

Looking at the reviews, its nice to see im not alone in my mixed reaction to this game. I bought it off rip because I LOVED Everhood 1. but everhood 2 has some glaring issues that keep it from being equally loved.
1.the lean into the RPG mechanics make fights take longer than they should and make the game alittle more grindy than the first one, even on story difficulty.
2.the songs arent as good as the first one I feel, especially since the loops are SO short, I get you dont want to make 5 minute songs for EVERY minor enemy but it makes encounters feel more generic.
3. the game seems to have some type of weird input delay that occours every so often. It's annoying because it causes you to lose a huge multiplyer that you were trying to build up.

otherwise, Id still recommend the game. I enjoy the world and theme.

people keep comparing this to everhood 1 but honestly just enjoy the ride and i think both games are plenty good and fun even if you don't end up having total favorites in the second game compared to the first one

the game does have a lot of dragging you everywhere but there's not exactly any specified order of things you have to go through and you can choose which area to go to if you're clever enough, i think this game shines a lot in that regard and others

Playing this game is like seeing your highschool crush after 20 and all you have in common is few old jokes and nothing more, you try to connect again but you hear the same joke but you still want to belive you are not so differen and you still can be friends but all you get is dissapointmen in the end.
I loved everhood 1, i truly still do, but as a continuation THIS game is absoultely weak.
Every cool aspect of everhood 2 stays on the screen for too long until it becomes tedious so another segment feels cool but then it also overstays its welcom and so on. Plot is trying to be deep but there is a problem. you are not protagonist here, Fat rat, and cameo cat from everhood 1 are more of a characters than you, you are playing a camera to their exposition, worst part of it: I didnt like em. They were either on their own adventures while we only tagged along or made quick task for our character to not get bored. It feels like Dnd group wich you are new player that DM constantly forgots about.
Overall game has it moments but few moments of cool stuff are not enough to make me lie and say it was worth the wait.

I dragged my feet on writing this and decided now, for some reason, almost a year later, that I'll write this.

I bought the first one on a whim and beat it entirely in one sitting. It is one of my favorite games of all time, and I have recommended it to so many people. I listen to the OST all the time, and have replayed it at least 4 times. Which is something I almost never do with a game these days.

Everhood 2 I could not finish and wasn't driven to attempt more than what I played in my first or second session.

They completely misunderstood what made the first game great. I don't want to play the same song over and over and over and fight random enemies. In fact, the parts of the first game where this occurred (the Spider-train) were some of the weakest and most frustrating so it was bizarre that they created an entire game where the vast majority of your time is spent engaging with this repetitive combat mechanic.

It seems they wanted to expand on the RPG elements without realizing that those elements were not fun. The first game meanwhile was carried entirely by its immersive story, "combat," and world.

I wish I liked this game more and could recommend it. I suppose I could pull up the OST for this game and find some tunes that I enjoy as much as the first, but I just can't find the motivation to do so.

I really don't understand the hate for this game. Everhood 1 wrapped itself up in a neat, tight package that any direct sequel would've trampled over. Everhood 2 is more of a spiritual successor, heavily inspired by the themes and visuals of its predecessor. If you find the journey to be more memorable than the destination, you will enjoy Everhood 2.

I seem to be in the minority of players who found the ending of Everhood 1 to be half-baked and full of hollow platitudes. In a time where every indie game (including Everhood 1) is trying to be "the next Undertale," it's refreshing to play a game that unapologetically enjoys being just that - a game. Entertainment. Vanity.

Every character lies to you. Every world ends in ruin. Perhaps there is no meaning to it all. As Everhood 1 said: "There are no Absolute Truths. You are free to wrap your half-truths into whatever, that is the true beauty of it. You can make the rest up."

"Go out and make some art." All is vanity, anyway.

I can't not recommend this game, but it has so many flaws I feel like I'm lying when I do. To be upfront, the very end sucks ass. I also can't say the rest didn't feel a little repetitive and sometimes doesn't know what it wants to be, but damn did I not still have so much fun playing through this game. Everhood 2 is more of a spin off to Everhood in my opinion. The story telling is way more cryptic yet even less meaningful while still keeping me hooked until the very end. I couldn't stop thinking about this game while getting through the finals acts, and the rug pulls were so stupid I kept coming back just to see what would happen next even if I could tell this game didn't want to take itself seriously. In my opinion, the gameplay is more fun than the first game, even if a few battles feel unnecessarily recycled and the difficulty ceiling is lower. I just have to keep coming back to the story since I can tell they didn't want to do Everhood 1 again, since they already made Everhood 1. Everhood 2 was meant to not take itself nearly as seriously as a way of making itself distinct from what I understand, and that is completely reasonable. The ending is just so genuinely unfulfilling that even after driving home the fact that this game can be stupid and out there for the sake of being stupid and out there for the whole runtime, it still left me wanting more in a way that doesn't feel good as opposed to Everhood 1, which left me wanting more in a good way.

I'm sure this review is way too long and repetitive, I guess the game is just rubbing off on me a little. Still had a ridiculous amount of fun. Play Everhood 1 first though. you should do that. and only play this game going in knowing it won't take itself seriously.

Everhood 2 reminds me of the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy if there was less philosophical questions and more random ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ that is fun random ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥.

I'll preface this review by saying I don't really have experience with the first game. It's very silly to play the second before the first but I heard it was fairly fun and mostly disconnected from the first aside from some call backs so I decided to give it a try.

This game is very hard to describe for me, at first I was captivated by the thought of what it wanted to tell me regarding life after death in their world, and the battle system really sucked me into actually trying it out after seeing the screenshots and trailers. The music of the game was also alluring, though to make a short comment, a lot of it began to feel the same. Having every song feel like it's using the same beats and staying in the same genre made a lot of things blend together for me but I wanna say this is on my music taste rather than the game.

When I finished it, it really felt like a game full of meta jokes and a lot of silliness disguised as a 'deep message' about Everhood. The battle system was fun, but it got really repetitive with the same enemies over and over. This wasn't helped by the game encouraging the 'one shots,' with dozens of achievements egging you on to do them, making some fights annoyingly long or way too short.

A lot of my battles would end REALLY early, and I'd hear none of the song because the enemy starts out with a very easy beat that let's you counter them pretty quickly. The alternative is the harder battles (typically bosses, but even then some were way too easy), where I just hear the 10-20 seconds of a song over and over again repeating the same pattern until I can properly attack the enemy. At some point, I realized I wasn't even listening to the music, I was too focused on dodging the beats because risking a hit means losing a streak that could have taken who knows how long to reach. I could hardly read the battle dialogue either, because why is there dialogue at the top of the screen in a tense dodging-based fight with no downtime? I definitely had some skill issues for certain fights catching me off guard, but I actually had a hard time believing you could be TOO good at fights and make them rather dull and quick.

I'm not great at taking in the bigger picture of some games, but I sort of understand the thought that it's all a loop and whatever you do is pointless. The game is actually good at showing that but definitely not in a somber way that makes you emotional, it's more of the "Oh, great, everything I did never mattered and the game is having a laugh about it." I felt like I was constantly being baited into believing some decisions actually held weight or might have some pay off, but when finally learning there is only one ending, it sours any thought of bothering to replay it or think of "what could have happened if I chose that other option?" that goes beyond a few extra lines of dialogue. Most of these decisions would also pop up randomly through side-worlds or side quests, which I found myself falling into randomly when I wandered a little too much, and I never understood their purpose or importance even when they tried to pretend they had some.

While some NPC's are somewhat memorable for their designs, I really can't say I recall what their point was or what their dialogue was even for. I don't think I helped myself, since I believe I also found myself very much jumbled and doing things out of order but the design seems fairly intentional given how much freedom you have to wander around at any point.

I believe, because of that, I started to notice you aren't really treated like a friend or anything to any NPC most of the time because it's extremely easy to fall into another world, or level, or side quest where you meet that NPC again and they seem to run through similar 'no time to talk let's go do stuff' chats to avoid messing up any sense of progress. I honestly can't remember the main 'gang' you see from time to time involving the cat, rat, and frog though I certainly recall Raven due to having control of my early quests and almost giving me a sense of purpose.
Some characters stood out to me but in rather odd ways, either having way more animation and fluid motions than even some of the main characters, or serving what felt like little to no importance despite prominently popping up from time to time and feeling like they really want to get your attention with things that don't contribute to the plot at all.

Overall, Everhood 2 was a pretty fun concept when I initially jumped in. When the game tried to further the plot, I realized rather quickly I didn't care for it, I didn't want to keep going. Where most games I binged through from start to finish, I found myself taking breaks or just putting the game down because I couldn't find the interest for it. Every side plot felt random and typically ended the same, either nothing happens and it adds no weight to the main game, or it's just another reinforcement of 'nothing matters.' When I decided to try and beat the game, it's flaws stuck out more and more, they stayed throughout the whole game and don't really make for an enjoyable experience especially when you get to the end where they just remind you "It never ends, am I right?"

It pains me to mark as a no but this game just doesn't have the soul of the original. The music isn't good, the characters (within the first hour) aren't interesting, the visuals are boring. It just feels empty and soulless.

The only thing it does good is the combat feels better. That's not even a good thing as I never wanted to kill in the original anyways. The music and unique visuals in the first game made well up for the combat. Meanwhile in this game the inverse is not true.

There is clearly a lot of passion and effort put into this game that prevents me from leaving a negative review but there are quite a few significant flaws which hold it back, especially considering how good the first Everhood was. First I would like to start with the positives. The combat in this game is a genuine improvement over the first game. While some of the random enemy encounters aren't too special, they are fun enough to fill in the gaps between the main boss fights which are just as good and sometimes better than what the first game had to offer. Also, being greedy and building up very large attacks and one shotting an enemy is so fun and rewarding I tried doing this in almost every fight. The music in this game is also pretty much as good as the first game overall. Everhood 1 probably has higher highs in its soundtrack but Everhood 2 has a more consistent soundtrack overall. The art and animation in this game is also very well done, leaning into abstract and psychedelic visuals much more than the original. Despite all of the great things in this game, it has a lot of problems, the biggest one being the story. The game throws you into so many random side plots and quests that have nothing to do with the main story for some reason. When you actually get back to the main story it feels so all over the place and uncoherent. Without spoiling anything, multiple objectives get started with zero conclusively, then the story gets side tracked to do something else. This happens multiple times throughout the game and when you finally reach the end the game suddenly remembers what the original objective was at the beginning of the game and tries to sloppily wrap everything up. On top of that the ending is not good at all which is a shame considering how good the ending was in Everhood 1. I feel like the main focus of this game was to improve upon the combat system in the original game which it does quite well. Unfortunately the rest of the game falls apart which is a shame because there are pieces of what could have been a really great game here. Again I wouldn't call this a bad game but it is for sure a bad sequel. If you have played the first Everhood and want more out of that games combat system then maybe pick this one up on a sale but otherwise it probably is not worth it, especially if you were expecting something similar to the original games story.

Después de jugar al 1 me parece una decepción, de momento, lo que llevo de historia me interesa 0, el apartado artístico siento que ha perdido gracia y se ha vuelto genérico/soso, no encuentro humor tan bueno como en el primero. A nivel gameplay pues un poco de lo mismo, pero te introduce demasiado rapido el ataque, habria preferido que quedara a algo mas de mid/late game.
Si el primero lo considero un 8.5/10

I'm not a person to believe "making bad games for the sake of them being bad" is real, but this seems to be the case. The first game was AMAZING with its storytelling, music, unique battles, the climax and conclusion hard to forget, not to mention really strong, impactful messages. Everhood 2 felt like a filler. Like a forced sequel.

I didn't actually see this game as a sequel though. If anything, this is a prequel. It's THE Everhood experience. It gives you the taste of how the Everhood dimension felt like to those stuck in there. The neverending adventures, entertainment, immortality. But that's all that there is. There's no actual conclusion, there's no message, no meaning. Eventually you get sick of it because there's no point to it all. Well played, Foreign Gnomes.

Everhood 2 is in a weird spot ever since its release. There are serious & unavoidable issues at the game's core that don't take a critical eye to notice, but there's so much energy radiating from the unique environments, great gameplay and overall experience that it's hard to hate.

Are random JRPG battles a bad fit for this kind of combat? Can you easily lose track of the story while it rugpulls you five times in a row and ends on a wet fart anyway? Are the little intricaties of your Soul Weapons badly explained? Are new playthoughs not worth your time because you can just replay battles on your main savefile, which are the main focus this time around? All yes.
Is this game overhated anyway, due to being a sequel to Everhood 1 which gives people innate expections of what they'll be getting, like it should be? Did I have a great time? Also yes.

No doubt Chris & Jordi had a fantastic time creating everything put on display here, and if they're happy with the final result, good for them, seriously. Personally, if a large rework ever pops up in the future, please have it focus on the story climax, that's all I'll ask.

Everhood did NOT need a second game. This game tarnishes the first one and its reputation. This second one is EXTREMELY repetitive, with almost every part of it requiring you to fight the same enemies or even bosses many times over and even RESTART THE WHOLE GAME if you miss something that they barely even mention in the story.

And this games story is also non-existent and disappointing; I didn't even reach the ending myself as I accidentally received an alternative ending and the game restarted for me so I searched it up just to be disappointed and to see others saying the same thing as me.

The first game is straight PEAK, but this one is just useless and I would really only play the first game.

I will say if you REALLY like the gameplay, then this one does have a better combat system imo, and the music isn't bad either.

Before I continue, I would just like to say I got the game gifted by my friend. I didn't pay 20 dollars, and I'm glad I didn't; however, I feel bad that my friend's money is unfortunately going to waste.

First, I would like to say that I haven't completed the game, I got to the point where you kill one of the more major bosses in the game, and then once I knew there was more, I just shut the game off and uninstalled it. Also, I would like to say that everyone's experiences are different, and there's nothing wrong with that, but for me personally, this game wasn't good.

I've played the first game before this, and to say I was disappointed was not far off.
It's not a bad game, but it's not a good game either, if I had to sum the entire game up, it would be the word boring. For 20 dollars, you'll find better excitement playing the first game, or just another game in general.

4/10, spend your money elsewhere.

I really enjoyed Everhood 1, so I'm sad that I really couldn't get into this one. My review will mostly be comparing the two games, and why this one felt like such a miss for me.

Story:
The story of Everhood 1 was excellent! It was one of those stories with a simple goal that SLOWLY evolves into a more complex goal as you realize more about the world you're in.

Everhood 2 just states off the bat that "Nothing even matters", and where that MAY MOTIVATE you to push through to see IF anything matters, there's no other drive being shown in the story besides one character who's desperately looking for what matters. I didn't end up beating the game, so maybe this story DOES lead to something big that I'm missing, but I'm struggling to care.
The story moments I do appreciate are the little stories, like this side plot of a civilization growing their technology overtime, and you're seeing how their progress grows as you play the game. However these little stories don't feel connected enough to the bigger plot for me to understand what I'm working towards.

Battles:
The battles in Everhood 1 were simple. Dodge the Guitar Hero music notes. This sounds like it would get boring, but the music would really drive home the feelings behind each attack, and will take things up a notch by throwing in some crazy new camera angle, or special effects you have to try not getting distracted by. It's like being on a crazy, high intensity, musical roller coaster ride! These music battles were also story driven, so you knew you were making progress when a character would come out to try and stop you.

Everhood 2 for some reason turns the game into an RPG with random enemy encounters, crystals to upgrade your weapons, different weapons to change up how you approached the battles, and an xp system.
This felt... unnecessary.
Where fighting someone in Everhood 1 signified you were making progress in your adventure, you're most likely fighting a random encountered enemy in Everhood 2, just to serve as a pointless obstacle that you'll have to refight 5 more times. The reason it doesn't feel great for this music based game is because the note attack pattern are the exact same each time you fight that same enemy. You will legit beat an enemy, the music stops, then the next one steps in, and you're just repeating the last minute of battle you just played. The xp as a reward doesn't feel worth it either because it doesn't feel gaining a level makes the battles go any faster.

Combat:
In Everhood 1, you unlock the ability to grab two attacks of the same color, and swing them back at your opponent. This both added another layer to the battling system while also signifying a complete twist to how you approached both the gameplay and the story. This made the battles you'd then have to replay not feel like extra work. You also had to plan your attacks carefully, because if you spent too long collecting two of the same color, the battle would end once the song was over and you'd have to start over. However once it was over, you could take a moment to gather your thoughts, figure out what you could do differently, and even see about fighting someone else if you wanted to.

In Everhood 2, they take things up a notch, letting you grab as MANY attacks of the same color as you wanted, allowing you to deal some MAJOR damage if you reached a certain threshold. This isn't necessarily a bad addition to the combat system, but I think it's flawed by how rewarding it is to gather a lot of attacks, and how punishing it is to be damaged.
If you gather just two of the same color and launch it back at your enemy in this game, you're taking the long route in the fight. I'm glad it's a path you can choose if you so feel, but once you've fought the same enemy 5 times in a row, you really just want these battles to be done and over with. The good news is if you're careful and manage to gather 15 attacks without being damaged, you can launch a powerful blast that knocks out a huge chunk of the enemy's hp! The bad news is if you get hit ONCE, you lose all your grabbed attacks and have to grab 15 more again. These battles also loop forever, so there isn't a moment for you to get kicked out of the battle, regather your thoughts, and come up with a strategy to beat this guy. This means you can easily get stuck in a loop of constantly trying to get 15 attacks, get hit, then repeat until either you've reach your 15 and beat the guy, or give up and take the long route of shooting just the lower damaged attacks back.

That's why I can't recommend this game. If the story was unmotivating, but the combat was fun, I'd argue this game was meant for the combat enjoyers who loved getting high scores like in the original Everhood. If the story had more drive to it, but the combat wasn't fun, I may have pushed through all these pointless fights just to learn what happens next. This game just doesn't fulfill any of these things that I already enjoyed in Everhood 1.

all of the criticisms i have for this game i share with most others, but i feel like they would never be brought up if the first game wasn't so incredibly excellent. yes, the story and some other details are less potent and impactful than the first, but that doesn't make them bad, they're just not on par with how wholly incredible the first is. that might sound like an insult, and maybe it kinda is, but, despite that, if you liked the first one, i'm certain you can get a good deal of enjoyment out of this game.

This is not more of Everhood. This feels very, very different from Everhood. We need a "neutral" review option. One of my least favourite aspects of Everhood was the combat, and the combat here feels even worse to me. Combat is a MUCH bigger component of this game.

This is a perfectly fine game that is similar to Everhood and in the same vein, though unless you're a lore expert you'd never understand *why* it's being called a sequel.

IMO, this should had been a secret sequel with a different name to avoid not meeting folks expectations. Nothing about it needs to change except the name.

As someone who initially liked the first Everhood a decent amount, I feel as if the sequel just does not quite hit the same for me. I understand that the intention is to have a bit more of a non-linear plot, but the way it's executed is a bit messy in all the wrong ways. I have a lot of thoughts going through my head after beating it for the first time, so here's just a bulleted list of all the things I thought were noteworthy.

- Battles were fun. [spoiler]Since that's apparently the whole point of the game[/spoiler], I guess they succeeded on that front. I really didn't like when they made you fight the same enemies over and over again in some of the overworld sections though. A game that's designed for "The Experience" really doesn't lend itself to repeating the same thing. Outside of that though they were cool. Same as before, if not slightly less psychedelic.

I also did not care for the [spoiler]3D avatar. Or the cosmetics, or the leveling system, or the weapons.[/spoiler] There was only a singular mechanic that I thought was inventive, but it still ended up stressing me out at times.

- I really TRIED to grasp onto the story, but it's incredibly hard to follow when it's written in the way that it is. A lot of the game's most important moments of dialogue are quite short/complex, and read by characters that really don't get enough screentime. It's hard for me to feel invested when the message their trying to tell is not only hard to understand, but not really represented by the bulk of the game.

- Later on in the game, the pacing feels pretty off. When I'm trying to reach a late-game objective that's been set out for me and I have to go through a bunch of random ♥♥♥♥ first because enemy #3 doesn't want me reaching there, I start to get a bit frustrated. Sometimes the game just throws stuff at you for no real discernible reason. I get that the kind of disoriented feeling is intentional, but when your message interferes with the enjoyment of a story I feel like maybe there's gotta be a different way to convey those kinds of messages.

- I just didn't care for the cast nearly as much as I did in the first game. They're fine enough, but I just didn't find them as charming as I did in the first game. It might be due to the fact I've had Everhood in my brain for a long time, but I often found myself not nearly as endeared or amused like I used to.

- Throwing away the normal plot of the game in service to the hard-to-understand meta narrative was easily the worst decision for the story being told. It's not that it's necessarily a bad message, but to build up a big world of strange interconnected pieces for nothing is flat-out disappointing. If they had been able to tie the main cast into the story being told in a more cohesive way, I feel like less people would've had issues with this game. [spoiler]They could've at least found a better way to cap it off than "Nothing ever ends in Everhood." What a slap in the face.[/spoiler]

tldr; I don't like Everhood 2 because it builds up a confusing world of mediocre characters that don't do anything to get cut off by even more confusion. The novelty of the first game's mechanics wore off, and everything added on here was just worse than what was already present in the first game.

4/10. I could see what they were trying to do, but it was just not executed nearly as well for something that requires a lot of strong writing skills.

Ever since I laid my hands on Everhood 1 back in 2022, I quickly fell deeply inlove with every single aspect of it. I loved the music, the characters, the story, the deeper lore behind it all and the amazing gameplay. And when I heard that they were making a sequel to one of my favorite games of all time, I was beyond hyped.

Unfortunately, this game did not live up to the hype that I had... And here's why:

First of all, the story. What a mess... It feels more like they had some left over ideas from Everhood 1 and threw them together in a chaotic mess of a game. I absolutely loved the idea of using the secret characters from Everhood 1 as the crew in this game, it added a lot of hype. But the story was just a chaotic mess that felt more like a half assed adventure and less of a complete story and it really hurts cause I was beyond interested in learning all about the characters, the story, the new worlds and such but it just didn't stick.

Second of all, the battles themselves. In Everhood 1, the battles had a reason. All battles were designed to be a unique experience that blended in with the story but Everhood 2 just fails at doing just that. The battles and songs themselves are good as expected but most battles feel rather pointless and repetitive.

And third of all, the ending. (spoiler warning for both Everhood 1 and 2!!!)

Everhood 1's story was amazing from start to finish, it was a heavily emotional journey about souls being stuck inbetween life and death. And we as the player had the fate of helping them cross over which was such an emotional and impactfull story that really stuck with me over the years. Everhood 2 has nothing like that...

Everhood 2 starts with a fun adventure that quickly turns into a chaotic mess of visiting multiple worlds without much purpose. And when the story gets to the point of actually making sense and doing something huge and impactfull, it just throws it away. The game literally has NO ending. The final portion of the game just loops again and again without a secret true ending or anything. All the effort of going through the game, collecting all kinds of weapons and items to finally beat the final boss and it just turns into a sloppy message off how "It never ends in Everhood"

Also, the fact that they basically show us that there's multiple versions of Everhood REALLY pisses me off because it literally means that everything we did in Everhood 1 didn't matter... but alas, it is what it is.

Sorry if my review is somewhat of a mess, I really wanted to write a positive review but I just cant... I just hope that they add some kind of DLC ending that cleans this mess of a game up.

Everhood foi um dos meus jogos favoritos, então era praticamente impossível eu não gostar de Everhood 2. a experiência como um todo é muito positiva.

O jogo peca um pouco em certos personagens, que poderiam ser mais marcantes ou ter trilhas sonoras melhores, considerando o nível do primeiro título. Ainda assim, isso não chega a comprometer a experiência geral.

A nova gameplay que deixa a gente atacar, foi uma adição que eu gostei bastante. Além disso, a história é consideravelmente mais longa que a do primeiro jogo, o que me surpreendeu de forma positiva.

No fim das contas, Everhood 2 mantém a identidade única da franquia.

OBSERVAÇÃO: É daqueles jogos que quanto mais charrado você estiver, melhor ele fica.

Great game, I can see where the negative revirws are coming from, but I personally disagree.
This game does exactly what it sets out to do, and I love it for that.
The gamplay is a step up from 1
I honestly liked the characters more than 1
And I think it matches 1s soundtrack well (Though, it's missing a few standout bangers like the Flower Shopkeepers song)
