Beautiful game if your computer can render the graphics. Interesting storyline. Choices sometimes matter and if you choose wrong, you end up not getting a quest or progressing. And try not to waste inspiration until near end of game.

when i got this game and i thought it would be very weird and i would not like it as much as i do, i did not know it was big as it really is, i'm very happy and pleased would absolutely recommend even if you have a busy life, its very nice and easy to understand and full of mystery, and it also has a very good story line, and amazing view's, makes me very happy as a painter myself, i did have a little trouble with some bad lag but i just had to fool with setting's in game and on steam, also i use zorin instead of windows. :) a very pretty game even with lag lol!

It's a nice, relaxed, very visually pretty game. Is it the most compelling story? No. But it's a chill escape from reality for a few hours.

Edit to add: it *does* have crashing/glitching issues. But it autosaves frequently enough that it's a mild irritation to just reboot it, I'm not losing like hours of progress or anything.

I had played the game for around 2 hours. The locations are truly pretty, but, as some people write, the dialogues are just too banal and I didnt have the feeling anymore that I would want to continue this game. But the concept itself is very interesting. (Acatually I would have prefered HomoSapiens as NPCs instead of these animal humanoids - it could still be a fictional Island then anyway -, but this is just a matter of taste.)

Another thing I wanna mention is that I didnt have the impression during these 2 hours that I could paint a lot. (I didnt get a lot into this "inspiration" mechanic, as mentioned in the video). Sure you can overpaint a painting, so that the materials for the Canvas shouldn't be a problem, but since the game is about playing a painter, I would have wished some more freedom or at least some more introduction into it.

Its hard for me to give a thumb up or down, I would rather just give a middle thing.

P.s. I am quite excited that the game is just 3gb big. I dont like all these 150gb big games nowadays, so this at least is a big plus for me. You can just quickly install and reinstall it anytime and dont need to download it for a week without a break.

P.p.s. during my 2 hours I didnt stumble into any freezes or bugs, but as I had read that the save games could be corrupted and dissappear, I was preparing to make a backup regulary.

缺点：1.自行车，帐篷不能随时随地展开，而且调用每次都需要主动打开背包，收回也需要主动操作，不然会停留在原地
2.晚上外出有寒冷值的设定，与游戏轻松，随心游览的基调不符合。且在游戏后期获得保暖衣物和帐篷后，才能避免游戏进程被这一设定强制打断。前期没有特别好的解决办法
3.游戏的保存有bug，导致晚上被冻死后有概率坏档，完全无法保存，丢失了几个小时的进度
4.游戏的指引是灾难级别，没有小地图，在大地图也没有显示玩家的位置，更没有快捷的传送。导致后期为了做任务不得不重复跑图，即使获得自行车这一代步道具后也没发从根本上改善这一点。而且由于整个地图的偏向于自然风格，辨别方向很多时候需要可以寻找标记物，迷路，找不到方向是经常发生的。
5.任务驱动严重，地图虽然不大，但是开发者强制通过任务引导玩家前往地图的各个角落。有的地区的开放甚至是以接取特定任务或者完成特定任务为前提，这一点与游戏的糟糕指引相结合，体验是灾难级别的。当游戏进程推进到一定程度后，如果没有求助于攻略，寻找到一些特定的地点以及npc，便无法继续进行下去，体验非常糟糕。截止到写评论的时候，我仍然没有找到前往西林以及迪漠崖的方法。同时这个游戏的任务不仅没有指引，对于任务的条件地点的描述也非常模糊，导致不看攻略有些任务完全无法下手。对于地图的探索表面上看上去虽然是自由的，但实际上受到了不小的制约。开发者在这张看上去自由的地图中，放弃了线性的叙事和场景，但又通过无聊的任务限制了玩家的行为，可以说是失败的，综合体验也是糟糕的。
6.虽然美术风格和整体氛围放在2019年的水准看算不错，但模型的贴图和纹理还是粗糙，而且npc的动作僵硬，不自然。
7.npc在地图上没有名字作为区分，加上所用的大部分都是几个通用模型，有时候寻找起来也不舒服，尤其是在纳瓦城这种npc比较多的地方。并且npc在地图上的位置与时间挂钩，再加上这个游戏糟糕的指引，很多时候这类重要的信息完全没有给出，导致有时候光找个npc就浪费了很多时间
8.画画这一较为核心的玩法没有体现出特色，大部分时候就是在单纯的拍照，比较无聊
9.场景的设计和互动上存在问题，既有空气墙，有的时候也会莫名其妙被卡一下，移动尤其是翻越障碍物时的动作也不自然

Unfortunately my game broke numerous times.
I'm still playing at the moment of writing this, and I must admit I'm pretty hooked.
If the game wouldn't crash randomly, it would be perfect.

There are few gamers that pull at my heart like this one. The environment, the characters, the story, the atmosphere. I actually didnt want to complete the game. I wanted to remain there and earn glowstones by fishing or working in the fields. Sleep in the different Inns and just.. bike around.

This game offered more than it advertised. Like a cozy microcosmos of small activities. There was so much more than I expected. At the end this is but another space that will remain for a long time in my heart.

Super jeu, basé sur de belles histoires et de chouettes quêtes dans un monde ouvert. L'univers est riche. Ce n'est pas du tout un RPG par contre, il faudrait retirer ce tag. La plupart des jeux en monde ouvert sont des univers violents basés sur le combat. Il est assez rare de trouver un jeu calme, poétique et humoristique dans lequel on peut simplement se promener. I absolutely adore Eastshade. As someone who thrives on quest driven gameplay and prefers exploration over combat, this game feels perfectly balanced.
The world is beautiful and immersive. The quests provide clear purpose without pressure, and the pacing encourages you to slow down and appreciate the environment. I have genuinely found myself stopping just to admire the scenery, and it even made me reflect on slowing down in real life.

If you are looking for a unique, peaceful, artistic exploration game, then I'm sure you'll enjoy this one. I hoped to get more of the feeling I got from the trailer, and goodness, did they deliver! I loved exploring every inch of this world, with the calming music and interesting quests. I loved 'being' an artist and looking at the world though those eyes. I wanted to complete every single quest, and am glad that I did. It's a piece of art that only indie games can seem to deliver nowadays, with all the passion that went into it. Eastshade has a beautiful, peaceful atmosphere with enough realism to keep you a little apprehensive. The puzzles aren't hard, but also not so easy that you don't feel satisfied after solving them. Interesting characters, I like that you can do another run through and make different decisions. The bike sounds are satisfying and its a pleasure to just bike around this world. So far feels amazing! Low-pace, nice graphics, cute genuine voice acting. I adore those little rpg elements with glowstones as currency you get for some small tasks, and the level design is fine, pushing me to explore the locations. Characters are lovely.

I'd love to have more control over the painting styles though! Since this is sort of the whole point -- to picture nice views with your easel, not a camera. Maybe it comes later, if so I will change the review.

Un jeu chill (pas de stress, pas de risque de mourir...), très beau (chaque coin que l'on visite est pittoresque et mérite de s'arrêter quelques instants pour l'admirer). On explore, on parle aux gens, on rend des services, on bricole quelques objets pour se faciliter la vie... On peut prendre son temps et apprécier le level design très réussi. L'exploration est progressive : en fonction des quêtes effectuées et des objets fabriqués, on débloque les différentes parties de l'île, ce qui donne un sentiment de progression tout à fait satisfaisant.
Le jeu n'est pas parfait (quelques glitchs visuels et autres petits bugs - rien de bien méchant cependant -, des murs invisibles parfois frustrants...), mais il en vaut la peine quand même. J'avais lu que le jeu se finissait en 9 heures, 13 en prenant son temps ; au final j'y ai passé plus de 30 heures. Jeu très recommandé !

If you're looking for an easy, relaxing and beautiful adventure game to play; Eastshade is the one.

You play in first person as a painter going around the map taking photos, painting them and selling them for money with a few side quests and a main story to follow. There is few survival aspects and they are temperature based (getting cold at night).

Exploring in this game is very easy, I found myself wandering around a lot as there's nothing that will hurt you (no enemies so there's no need for combat) and you pick up some lore of certain places along the way.
The townsfolk are lovely animal npcs, some with nice little characteristics that separate them from the rest.

Definitely a game I kept screenshotting in, it is genuinely such a gorgeous world.

One thing I will say is I recommend getting it on sale! I feel the game is too short to be bought at full price :)

Повесточная шагалка с элементами выживалки про остров уродливых фуррей и художника. Но несмотря на эту мерзость, игра очень милая, добрая и красивая (несмотря на крайне дешёвую графику). В ней дохрена багов и просто чудовищные просадки ФПС (со 120 до 50!), но она всё равно очень душевная и приятная. Парадокс? Парадокс. 7/10.

Eastshade aims to be an open world RPG with no violence and it certainly succeeds. Thing is, in many open world RPGs, the main instigator of quests and general things to do involves violence (hunt this, fight that, avenged this NPC, etc.) so Eastshade is at a disadvantage when it comes to do. I think a lot of people coming from the more traditional RPGs will find this game boring but it is a different and interesting experience that I really enjoyed.

If the game's description sounds interesting, you'll probably find enjoyment in Eastshade. If no violence sounds boring, maybe this is not the game for you.

This is a little gem for cozy gamers. You walk around, fulfill interesting quests and paint pictures. The landscapes are very pretty but the graphics leave something to be desired. The game is buggy so do your best to save often, and maybe step away for a bit if you do lose progress. I did experience some blackscreens and a glitch where I just fell through the streets of an empty un-rendered Nava. Still, I enjoyed the otherwise low stakes and don't regret picking this up.

Very pretty, very scenic. Interesting choices as far as which anthro animals to include -- I've rarely seen monkey furries before. There's a mix of deer, owls, and monkeys mainly, with some bears here and there. Good graphics mostly, though NPC faces are...interesting, full voice acting. Unfortunately, there are some very odd game mechanic decisions.

It's splitting the difference between a survival game where you balance resources (money, canvases, crafting supplies, the number of paintings you're allowed to make, etc), and a casual exploration game where you experience things and talk to NPCs and find secrets. I think the balance is a little off, and the survival is interfering with the exploration.

The map is split into several zones, and unlocking each new zone requires doing quests (pay 60 coins to unlock the first bridge, get 3 recommendations to be allowed entry to the town, etc). The game is tightly balanced enough, that after buying a single cup of tea I wasn't directly instructed to, I was left exactly one (1) coin short of being able to unlock the bridge for a few in-game days. It doesn't tell you who can give you recommendations, so if you've already done exploring before reaching the city gate, you have to do significant backtracking to try and figure out which NPCs of all the people you've talked to are able to give you recommendations. [edit] On additional play, there are in fact at least four people who can give recommendations, so it's not a full needle-in-a-haystack situation. Check questgivers.

There's a mirror puzzle involving light beams, and how they reflect at particular times of day. When you succeed (which will likely involve minutes of waiting), you gain access to an NPC who gives you a quest in the form of a rhyming riddle, whose answer involves doing something at an earlier time of day. Meaning that you have to wait an entire extra day before you can do the next stage of that quest; you can't just continue that questline immediately. Moments like that feel like either gameplay padding, or poor design. There are frequent breaks in the flow, where you have to redirect and find other things to do, instead of continuing what you were doing.

The most egregious problem, I think, is how much the inspiration system limits your ability to make paintings, and makes paintings a limited resource. It technically encourages exploration (you MUST explore to regenerate the ability to create paintings), but it also means you have to think very hard about whether a moment is worth capturing. You can't casually decide to paint an animal you see doing something cool, or a scenic view you like, or see if a character would enjoy a painting of themselves or their family, without risking having to paint over it later for a mandatory quest. You have to carefully manage how many paintings you let yourself create, to avoid running out of the ability to make paintings later. Given how inspiration is earned, it seems to be a strictly limited resource -- and I'm left wondering if I can softlock myself by creating too many paintings I wasn't ordered to.

I can see how the resource balancing is intended to function, but I think it's missing the mark. The game would strongly benefit from a creative/storytelling mode, where the inspiration system is turned off, and the profit you receive from selling things is doubled. Even doubling the amount of inspiration gained and making canvases (or planks/fabric) more common would help quite a bit.

If you like casual survival games, with a screenshot-based set of sidequests tacked on the side, it could be a decent game. Especially if you're the kind of person who reflexively does main quests first, stays on roads, and doesn't mind following tutorials. ...but, if you spend your time in exploration games jittering horses up cliffs no man was meant to climb to see what the view's like from the top, this is probably not the game for you.

This is not primarily a game for exploring; it uses gameplay mechanics to control exploration and force it to stay within certain limits. This is not primarily a game for capturing and saving images, your resources are limited and you'll be spending 80% of your time replenishing them. There is a day-night cycle, with timed events that occur at different specific times of day, and half of that cycle is gated behind whatever upgrade will let you travel at night. There are several places in the early game I'll need to backtrack to, as soon as I find that upgrade.

There are so many arbitrary limitations, for a game that's trying to be about exploration.

[Edit] I have swapped to a hesitant thumbs up after reaching the city of Nava, due to a few choice lines of dialogue. I am fond of the herbalist who doesn't give a dang about her job.

For whatever reason that nixed whatever progress I had, including all the toll money I collected and paid to get to Nava, as well as all the achievements I made on the way there. Unless you're a fan of completing the starter quests over and over, don't waste your time with this game. You will be mad. Guaranteed.

I would like to enjoy it but the game crashes to desktop very regularly, requiring constant restarts, thus taking any enjoyability out of it. Be better if you could paint tbh so you could watch the paint dry... Probably less frustrating.

Favourite things have been fish that fly above along the river in a shoal and birds that don't fly out over the sea just hang there static in the air, oh don't forget the rat that drifts in the woods when he's stuck!
Bad things have been grinding feathers for 60 coins to cross a bridge because i did not think money was that important and booze was funny at the start, a crappy tactic to lock someone in an area, and add in some game crashes and you catch my drift.

This is not a patch on Dear Esther, which does not crash, and, you can take HD screenshots anytime.

I can see how this relaxing game may appeal to some. But I found the writing, story and voice acting to be banal. The movement around the world feels too floaty. Graphically, I can tell they put a lot of effort into it, but it just didn't feel right -- colors were too saturated in shade, from some angles the river is just a flat blue surface, stuff like that. Meditative game where you can just chill and relax. Nothing bad will ever happen. Nobody is going to treat you bad. Just chill and enjoy the ride.
There are a couple of bugs however. There is one especially annoying, which forced me to replay almost the whole game in order to get one last achievement and it's simply because I've completed two quests in a wrong order.
But other then that - interesting, calming, relaxing. Top notch!

Eastshade - Leonardo Da Vinci has got nothing on you!

Breathtakingly beautiful, stunning visuals with great atmosphere, solid characters and voice acting and great vistas to paint. In this game you run around doing quests, making money for toll gates, collecting candles and materials for canvases.

You choose what to paint and how to paint it (portrait or landscape) and travel a gorgeous world to do it. If you want a casual game where you just walk around and take in the sights, this game is for you.

The game has deleted my save files during gameplay, lost all progress.
Apparently it's a known issue, if that's the case and the support for the game has ceased, at least a warning message letting players know to always keep a backup would suffice.

Beautiful landscapes, cozy game, with an equally beautiful soundtrack. All the interactable characters are nicely voiced, there is a simple but rewarding progression system where you need to buy a few pieces of equipment to explore more, even small methods of transportation, and it has a nice conclusion that left me satisfied. No crashes, runs perfectly on a 7 year old machine. Only bug I found is a very easily avoidable one at the start. Don't get punched by the guy, or the game won't let you save. You will know who it is, just don't pick the line that aggravates him. If you do just reload. Around 20 solid hours of relaxing exploration, definitely get at discount, but was well worth at full price.

Pros:
-open world
-no fighting, so it's nice if you want a game to just chill through
-Fun characters and interactions
-there is a lot to do

Cons:
-the map is not helpful. It's hard to read and from what I've seen, there's no "you are here" dot to know where you are or which direction you're heading.
-some parts of the world look very similar, so there have been times where I think I'm going the right way to learn I'm not. Or I spend more time than I'd like trying to find something.
-there needs to be more fast travel points
-some quests are able to be figured out, but there are some where I get stuck and need to find the answer on the internet. This is after talking to everyone and exploring within the game to see if I can figure it out. Would be nice to be able to buy hints with gemstones.

Overall, I'd still buy this game despite the cons! I just sometimes have to take a day or two off from it when I get stuck on multiple quests and need to take a break.

Beautiful and relaxing!

The island is full of places you'd like to paint, but soon you discover that inspiration is a resource not to be spent in vain. I liked the landscapes and architecture very much. Big kudos to the part of the team who made the soundtrack - it is very fitting for every area.

There are numerous bugs in the game that can make the journey frustrating, so save the game frequently, especially before placing a boat.

Still very impressive how such a small studio was able to make this game!

I first fell in love with this game when it was on xbox gamepass. I'm only 6 hours in on steam and am more in love with it now then i was then. definitely a cozy game. 10/10

EDIT: I am now 15 hours in and i'm editing to say that I have had several game breaking bug issues: being unable to save the game and having to close it and losing 45+ minutes of progress to being unable to interact with anything (including my bed so I couldn't sleep; which then caused me to FREEZE TO DEATH).

This game is still absolutely beautiful and I want to truly love it but its hard to get over the bugs and issues i have experienced. it is frustrating to have to replay sections over and over due to these bugs. I don't want to sit here and be mad while playing such a potentially "cozy" game. 6/10

В целом неплохо. Есть 2 вещи которые мне не понравились. Первое - это какая-то психоделическая палитра окружения... цветовая гамма зачастую совершенно не сочетается друг с другом и некоторые объекты выглядят чужеродно, а ведь это игра про художника! И второе это баги. раз пять сваливалась под текстуры и какая-то ошибка со спавном квестовых персонажей в двух квестах: с рыбой и енотом из квеста про барабанщиков, еще слетающее положение камеры при "рисовании". В целом не очень критично. Геймплей медитативный гуляешь по дорожкам и разглядываешь окружение, квесты интересные и легко проходятся без гайда просто на обычном исследовании, по миру приятно ходить и изучать его. Вобщем на один раз вечерком расслабиться сойдет

This is a simple game that nails a lot of stuff to perfection. The exploration is really cool, and the places are so well designed that each discover feels epic. The world is small, making each place matter. When you talk to someone, you can go somewhere else and then come back to this character later. It is like the size of the world makes you go back and forth revisiting old places and people - making them more memorable. That said, this is one of the few games I remembered every single NPC: They were really unique, having true personalities, true struggles. They felt alive. And when I had to say goodbye, I felt it to the heart. I knew I had to go oversails, [i]but did I really wanted?[/i] The game deeply connects with you, if you're inclined to.

It is, however, a very niche game. I wouldn't recommend to anyone.

Світ Eastshade не поспішає. Він не вимагає нічого, лише просить тебе — зупинитись, вдихнути, подивитись. Це не гра, а тиха подорож у місце, де краса стала мовою, а кожен пейзаж — історія і пам'ять про когось, хто був дорог, або про тих, хто став дорогим серцю у цій пригоді.

Тут не стріляють, не рятують світ і не змагаються за перемогу. Натомість ти малюєш — не для слави, а щоб запам’ятати мить. Холодне повітря з гір Тіффмуру… такі дрібниці, як не показана, але відчутна втрата старого Ліндоу у листах і щоденниках з минулого, показують цей чудернацький світ живим і змінюваним. Золотий пил у сонячних променях ранкового міста в Наві, коли ти чуєш гомін багатьох голосів, що кудись поспішають, поки ти намагаєшся зупинитись на вулицях, зловити гарну мить, потягуючи з кухля з чаєм. Ласкаве тепло напою дозволяє ненадовго побачити цей світ в інших барвах.

І щоразу, коли натягуєш полотно, світ затихає, наче визнає: так, ця краса варта, щоб зупинитись…

Особисто мені подобалось між декількома замовленнями, що змушували мене далеко мандрувати, зупинитись, розвести вогнище, поставити намет і чайник, і слухати пісню мандруючого барда Вази. Ми разом пили чай і насолоджувались миттю. Або якщо прийти о сьомій вечора у таверну “Корчма під старим горнятником”, можна почути декілька різних історій. Сідав біля капітана розбитої “Аннабель” і слухав історії аж до самого ранку.

Але Eastshade — це не лише пейзаж. Це історії, що з’являються поруч із тобою, коли ти просто слухаєш. Справа із крадієм, де замість зброї — спостережливість. Возз’єднання сім’ї, де зайві слова, бо фарби говорять глибше. І загадковий народ Перших, який настільки довіряє тобі, що пускає показати своє життя, приховане від випадкових поглядів. І коли ти усвідомлюєш, що знаєш таємницю, яка прихована від усіх, це дійсно надихає. Це саме те, що шукаєш у пригодах і що робить їх запам'ятовуючимися — унікальний досвід.

Усе це — як нитки, що сплітаються у полотно життя мандрівника, якому даровано відчувати цей світ глибше. І коли, зрештою, ти підіймаєшся на великий корабель, що повертає тебе додому, серце раптом стихає. І поки Ліндоу все більше розчиняється у блакитному небокраї, у ранкову мить, поки всі в місті, яке ти покидаєш, ще сплять, ти раптом розумієш: головне не те, що ти побачив, а як ти дивився, як прожив цю коротку, але унікальну пригоду.

Захоплююча пригода чекає на мандрівного митця - досліджуйте квітучий острів, допомагайте його мешканцям та створюйте неймовірні пейзажі на холсті. Центральним мотивом є основне заняття протагоніста - живопис, але, тим не менш, гра далеко не обмежується тільки ним.

Рецепт гри доволі насичений - в яскравий, атмосферний, переважно доброзичливий і різноманітний відкритий світ додано трошки крафту, жменя загадок, щіпка археології і хімічного аналізу, і все це задобрено приправами комерції, збиральництва, рибальства і [spoiler]легкого тріпу (саме так 🙃)[/spoiler].

Мені гра сподобалась, хоча з деякими квестами не одразу зрозуміло, що робити. Відгуки інших гравців підтверджують факт певної неочевидності деяких завдань. I love this game sooo much. It's so calm and chill and I love just being able to walk around and enjoy the scenery. There are plenty of characters to talk to that help break up some of the loneliness of your travels, along with tons of little side quests. Painting is fun and simple, it's just framing a shot like you're using a camera. The music and sounds are atmospheric and it's just overall soooo so cozy. I wish there was more games like this. If I had to ask for anything, it would be for something like a character creator or even a home I could decorate.
