A super fun indie platform game. Love the creative style. Do recommend.
Short, sweet, simple little platformer game about a little samurai dog out on a quest to rescue his buff boyfriend. There's very little in terms of a plot. You just have to deal with a handful of baddies in their own unique stages a-la Mega Man style.
The stages themselves are nothing too complex, but there are still plenty of little hidden nooks and crannies to keep you busy. Combat is fine for what it is. I appreciate the ways this game leans into being a simple Game Boy platformer with a simple control layout that accomplishes simple actions.
The difficulty is just right, especially for a first-time playthrough. You'll spend a little time getting familiar with stage hazards and boss attack patterns, but none of it outstays its welcome.
You can easily 100% this game and its achievements in a single sitting as I have. Give it a spin!

Um ótimo jogo. Bastante divertido de jogar e bonito, apesar de só ter umas três cores por fase. Ele não é tão frustrante quanto os jogos de plataforma antigos e ser bastante curto significa que ele não se perde no caminho, ficando divertido até o final.
Bastante influenciado por jogos como Megaman (vi o Clone X no chefe final) mas não é um daqueles jogos que praticamente só tem referências.
É muito bom ver que o estado dos jogos brasileiros mudou tanto desde que comecei a jogá-los. De "legal por ser brasileiro mas ainda falta muito" até o "bom e ponto" de jogos como Dogurai.
Não estava esperando nada desse jogo, mas, até que é legalzinho, sua arte e gameplay são simples oq torna interessante. Se essa porra tem história, não faço a menor ideia, mas, sabemos que não precisa de uma historia complexa pra ser boa, só acho que vacilaram no chefão final, é muito fubanga. 7/10.

ステージごとに横スクロールアクションとボス戦がありロックマンのような感じです。ステージ数は少なめです。即死の要素が多かったような印象があります。
操作は、移動、攻撃（近距離のみ）、ジャンプ（二段ジャンプあり）、スライディングのみです。あと一部の敵には攻撃時にQTEで多くダメージを与えられる演出があります。
トゥルーエンドでクリアすると遠距離攻撃できる操作キャラクターが解放されます。
my buddy gifted me this game, and it started for me as a chore to be kind to his gift. i can confidently say my perspective has shifted from what it was before I finished. Dogurai brought me back to the old Nintendo classic platformers I used to love as a wee chap, and I'm looking forward to the next one I find similar to it

But they just had to make the whole game fun!
It clearly gives Megamen vibes but on the GB, and also reminds me of Kirby's DreamLand 2 with the collectibles and story telling (minimal and necessary to unlock more of the game).
it's short, challenging and charming just like the retros that it is inspired from, nostalgia guaranteed.

There is some good stuff, like the different color palettes, the "ninja" attack, some good platforming, few good bossfights. But I think something was still missing from making it "special". Anyhow, it's a good and relaxing indie retro game, if you love this genre you should try it! quite short tho!

Dogurai remixes elements of several successful retro-platformers: you have the general game-structure of Mega-Man with the sword-play of the Ninja Gaiden-titles for the NES, early Castlevania-style bosses (even Death makes an appearance!), all packaged in the stylish - but sometimes a bit murky - color palette of the NES/Gameboy and a nice chiptune-soundtrack.
The price of admission is more than fair and if you like what you see on this store-page, you'll probably get your money's worth. It really gives a good impression of what this title is about.
You can expect precice controls with a fluid and cool dash, tough pattern-based bosses, diverse levels with many different obstacles, as well as some replayablity in form of two endings and a couple of collectibles and hidden areas. The game is probably also great for speedrunning if you are into that.
However, you can also expect wonky hitboxes, some insane checkpoint-choices, a point of no return after which you'll need a new file if you want to collect all the collectibles (if I haven't missed anything?) and of course the dog-theme that is surely a matter of taste.
But these frustrations aside, the game is good, it is almost too cheap for the quality you get, and all in all a great time. It doesn't demand much, neither in time nor in investment, and returns thousandfold.

Dogurai ist ein gelungener Start für das brasilianische Indie-Team Hungry Bear Games. Der Game Boy-Stil wird hier wirklich gelungen eingefangen und in einem unterhaltsamen Action-Platformer umgesetzt, der sich angenehm flüssig spielen lässt. Leider hat man auch ein paar schlechte Eigenschaften seliger 90er Gaming-Tage mitgebracht. Einige Spielpassagen sind echt fies und erfordern viel Übung und noch mehr Extraleben, bevor man sie endlich in den Griff bekommen hat. Da der allgemeine Schwierigkeitsgrad von Dogurai aber eigentlich recht moderat ausfällt, können diese Passagen einen Nicht-Retro-Spieler umso mehr irritieren. Auch vereinzelte Schlampereien wie der Verzicht auf eine Introsequenz oder eins, zwei wacklig designte Bossgegner, bringen einige unnötige Minuspunkte.
Nichtsdestotrotz bekommen GB-Nostalgiker, die nicht zu viel erwarten, einen schönen Titel, der sich seinerzeit auch gut auf der Original-Hardware gemacht hätte.

Jogo incrivel, não tem como não recomendar, tudo que ele aparenta ser ele é, um dos poucos em que isso acontece, com obvias inspirações em jogos antigos mas que continua com uma essencia propria, a unica coisa que me incomodou são leveis onde o principal inimigo é os obstaculos, porém isso é algo pessoal e não um erro legitimo do jogo. Com o preço que está vale muito a pena. 8,5/10.
Dogurai jogo esse estilo Megaman, uma pegada de gráficos da época do nintendinho, eu até pensei q jogo fosse antigo, mais é novo e é brasileiro, mas como eu amo estes jogos comprei e estou gostando mto, enfim, quem gosta de jogos megaman de super nintendo só que um pouco menos detalhado, vai gosta desse aqui.

-I like that every level has a different color palette and distinct theme, and it matches the Gameboy inspiration
-Super cheap, unde 5$ and good amount of content for price
-Soundtrack and sound effects are good
-Bosses were well designed and could be completed once you learned the movement and attack patterns
Cons:
-No remapping of the dash button, and it's attached to a Down + Jump combo. This never feels comfortable to me, and I have hard time dashing and running forward at the same time. I end up standing still for a second before and after dashing which defeats the purpose in most situations.
-A lot of instadeath environmental hazards such as spikes, lava, conveyor belt crushing you, falling off the map, etc.
-Enemies quickly fly in the air from off the screen while you are trying to jump from platforms and the floor is falling out so you have to do all this quickly w/o seeing the enemy until the last second.
-No powerups! I think powerups would have added a lot of variety and spiced things up. You only have one basic attack and you have to be right next to enemies to use it. I would have liked at least a throwing star or something.
-Odd checkpoint timing. I found that early in the level, I didn't die much but late, I died a ton. Problem is, is that early in the level there's are tons of checkpoints but late, there is usually only two. There's a checkpoint right before an extended platforming/chase segment, and then right after. I found this to be the most challenging part of the game, and I think a midway checkpoint could have alleviated some frustration.
Thoughts:
-This is another one that just wasn't a good fit for me. I think it's safe to safe to say, that I'm not as a big of a fan of these retro games as I had thought. I like some of the quality of life options and customization that modern games offer. Unfortunately, I didn't enjoy most of my experience w/ Dogurai. This is a game I can only recommend to ppl that love these Mega Man inspired retro action platformers. There are just so many excellent games that I think are better that can be picked up during a sale, which is why I'm giving this a thumbs down.

Dogurai, um jogo de plataforma extremamente difícil, e com muitas referências a Mega Man, seja o X, Zero, Clássico e etc.
As músicas são legais, a ideia da paleta de cor mudar a cada fase de acordo com o tema dela é bem inteligente, dá para terminar em duas horas, os chefes são desafiadores mas não é aquelas coisas que você vai passar horas e horas no mesmo chefe (com excessão de uns dois).
Vale a pena os 10 reais gastos por este jogo, realmente é bem divertido para passar o tempo, e, para as pessoas que adoram Mega Man, você com certeza vai se impressionar com o tanto de referência que esse jogo tem a ele.

Pequeno jogo para quem gosta dos clássicos como Megaman do NES, consegue-se ver inúmeras inspirações do mencionado. Os gráficos são feitos em 8 bit real, não só estética, uma paleta de cores extremamente limitada e muito bem utilizada, a jogabilidade é excepcional, todos os comandos são acurados e nunca parece que foi erro do jogador quando você morre e você vai, não é um jogo fácil, porém mais fácil que megaman. Terminei apenas no modo normal, mas existe o modo difícil também para quem gosta da realidade do desafio da era de ouro dos 8 bits. As músicas são todas animadas e parecem encaixar em seus cenários. Recomendo a qualquer saudosista do NES.

Dogurai is a lovingly tribute to 8-bit era gaming, with both its charms and faults.
Developed by brazilian team Hungry Bear Games, Dogurai recreates the feeling of the original Game Boy console, with its limited color pallet and screen resolution. Different color pallets can be unlocked by finding collectibles, adding some variety to the pixelated graphics.
The gameplay is heavily inspired by the original Mega Man series on NES. Difficult levels, challenging platforming sessions, unique enemies and a boss and the end of every level. Beat all of them, and you unlock the final fortress, where you certainly will fight them all again in a boss rush before the final battle. But, instead of shooting pellets at enemies, Dogurai wields a samurai sword, making the game unique enough to not feel like a Mega Man rip-off.
If you enjoy challenging retro gaming, with some quirky secrets and a charming yet short experience, this is a game for you!
Dogurai est un bel hommage à la fois à la gameboy pour son aspect graphique, et à la série Megaman (époque NES) pour son aspect action-plateforme.
C'est simple, vous incarnez un chien samurai ayant pour mission de sauver le monde des griffes de vilains méchants robots. Vous devrez pour cela, comme dans les premiers Megaman, parcourir d'abord 4 niveaux et battre autant de boss, puis 2 niveaux supplémentaires pour finir l'histoire. Niveau gameplay, vous pouvez sauter, donner un coup de sabre, et faire une glissade. Il y a en plus pour certains ennemis et pour les boss une amusante séquence de QTE qui se déclenche avec le bon timing. Dommage par contre que le fait de battre un boss ne nous donne pas un pouvoir supplémentaire, l'hommage à Megaman aurait été complet. Dans l'ensemble, le level design est plutôt cool, et offre même quelques passages cachés.
Graphiquement, c'est de la gameboy donc, chaque niveau mettant l'accent sur une couleur particulière, ce qui donne un certain charme au jeu (pour peu qu'on y soit réceptif évidemment). La plupart des environnements sont d'ailleurs bien travaillés et plutôt jolis, et les animations sont soignées. Mention spéciale aux musiques très sympas.
Bref, Dogurai est à faire pour tous les amoureux de la gameboy, même si je conseille l'achat peut-être qu'en période de solde, étant donné qu'on en voit le bout en 1h (un peu plus pour voir la fin secrète).
Acompanho esse jogo desde que o conheci em um evento de desenvolvedores em Brasília e até disse que queria muito fazer mods para ele. Absolutamente sensacional. Foi criado originalmente para ser um jogo de Game Boy e agora foi lançado até para PS4. Músicas cativantes, controle responsivo e dificuldade desafiadora. Uma carta de amor aos fãs de Megaman, Castlevania e Metroid.

A really awesome game. I could fly up on the nostalgia. The attack mode where we have to press the buttons at the right time is one of the greatest points of this game.
It's a good game with a retro feel to it. The soundtrack doesn't have many songs but it will definitely remind you of those old school games that you played as a kid. It feels cool slashing bullets with dogurais sword instead of just simply dodging them like all other games force you to do. The colors for the levels can be a little off putting, at least to me, but it's still a good game. Also, it's really short. I have about 25 minutes in the game and I'm already 37% complete. No doubt I'll come back to replay it eventually though so that length doesn't really matter that much. Good job with the game guys

Los controles son precisos, el juego es desafiante sin llegar a ser injusto, y es bastante sencillo en sus mecanicas como para no tener que complicarse en entenderlo y enfocarse mas en la habilidad propia del jugador, eso me gusto bastante, pues es fácil de tomar y empezar a jugar.
Los secretos, rutas alternas de ciertos escenarios y logros también son un añadido que me agradó

O jogo contém alguns easter eggs, é todo feito em pixel e me faz muito lembrar da época que eu jogava no meu velho Game Boy. A dificuldade do jogo não passa perto de ser fácil, é bem desafiador e você precisa de paciência pra passar de certas fases (a fase da lava que o diga). Tudo nele é lindo, o level design, as músicas das fases, todos os pequenos detalhes que transformam esse jogo numa obra prima e me faz ter nostalgia do tempo que eu passava jogando toda tarde esses tipos de jogos quando era pequena. Meus parabéns aos envolvidos, em especial ao Mock!

The controls are simple and responsive (You can literally play this with a NES controller), the mechanics are easy to understand, and the stages are all straightforward, each one with a different challenge of it's own.
I don't know if you prefer long or short experiences, so I believe is worth mentioning that this game has the average length of a NES/Gameboy action-platformer title, IF you don't feel like trying to look for it's secrets.
My only negative note is that this game trows A LOT of cheapshots at the player, mostly involving projectiles coming from offscreen and too fast to avoid/destroy without knowing the pattern beforehand (and even then you may still take a hit)... but at least, they don't respawn infinitely.
Overall a pretty good game for a small price, and once you finish it, it has some secrets to find as well.

Thank you for making this game, very nostalgic for those of us who played platform games in the 80s-90s. There are many options for retro platformers out there, but this is a fresh aproach which I am enjoying very much so far. Besides minor bug issues, there is nothing else to be said other than "you should try this game". This one just feels right. Challenging game with excellent controls, replayability, interesting enemies. 100% recommend.
The game itself takes back to a lot of classic platform games. I thought it was a beat easy having normal mode with infinite lives, but I guess that was intended to allow the game to be actually played with (as opposed to rage-quitted with).

I've read some other reviews here, and I can partially agree with some of them. Although sound effects at some stages were indeed missing, the soundtrack itself matches so much with the gameplay that the lack of sound effects itself I could only notice because of someone else pointed that out.

Dogurai is a game that pays homage to the Megaman series of old, and it shows. Not only due to its graphics, but for being hella fun to play! I'll break down my opinion on each of the game's aspects.
Gameplay is on point. Very simple control scheme: Run, attack, jump, double jump and a dash move. That's what you need for a dog samurai game and that's perfect. Use your sword to slice enemies, weaken those that have stronger armor and CUT BULLETS MID-AIR! Be the dog ninja you always wanted to be!
The graphics for this game are simply AMAZING! Very very colorful and with much detail and life, even with the small amount of bits it has. Each level feels different, and the color palette changing for each level felt pretty nice, making room for some pretty gorgeous scenery. I'd say the Desert Level and the last linear levels have my favorite graphics and design of them all.
If wanted, you can change the color palette yourself and set it fixed to one of many available colors, instead of having it change for each level.
The characters and enemies are also pretty well animated, everything feels fluid and pretty good to look at.
The music is also a pretty good point, all the background music and sound effects are pretty good! Each level's OST is nice to listen to, and it changes now and then whenever needed to set the mood, and it feels great whenever it happens, especially towards the last sections of the game, the use of the soundtrack was simply masterful.
Regarding difficulty, I'd say this is a slightly difficult game. Nothing that'd make you want to pull your hair out, it starts pretty easy and slowly gets harder as it goes, but it's a smooth difficulty curve. Be mindful, there are one or two moments during the whole game where you can get pretty frustrated if platforming isn't your forte. If that happens, just pause the game, take a quick breath and then return. It's not impossible, just need a bit patience during these hard moments and to take it easy.
And speaking of difficulty, the boss battles were absolutely great, high points during my playthrough! They're all very unique and distinct from one another, with varied movesets. You might die once or twice, but if you pay attention to their movements you'll soon start predicting their movements and then it's all a smooth sail from there on out. I was never frustrated when dying to the bosses, no death felt unfair, it always felt like it was my own fault and that I should be more careful next time.
The only downside for me was its short duration. It's such a good game, I wish it went on a little longer, but it's already perfect at its current size anyways, so that's just a little nitpick my me, a small fan who just wanted the main story to go on.
Replay value wise, it has many achievements you can go after, and some secret achievements as well! And you can unlock something, which I won't spoil, that changes how the game plays a little bit and it's quite fun to play using it after playing through the game normally before!
Overall, 10/10 game, I recommend it to EVERYONE. It's a really good game, must-buy!

Fair difficulty / perfect for platformer junkies like myself.
I played a really early access build and was already expecting a lot of this game. I was surprised with a lot of smart changes and awesome level design.
Re-playability was something that I was not expecting, really nice surprise!
Really fun bosses, smart enemy placements, beautiful pixel art, nice difficulty, nice touch for hidden stuff, replayable, delivers the retro feeling and still tries to do something new with creative thinking...
That is all I can say without spoilers.
Totally recommend it for people in search of a great retro platformer.

I thought the game was too easy at first, then i got face slammed with smart enemy placements around platforms
I thought the secrets were too easy to find, then I ended the game with the bad ending without seeing all characters
I thought the gameplay was the same for the whole journey, then the game threw me in different situations and mechanics
The homage to megaman is noticeable, though with its own flair.
I wish the characters and bosses were a little more clear, I still don't understand what some of the characters were
And a wee bit of exposure with dialogs/settings in the beginning would've made Bones' mission more clear, but that's only my personal opinion.
Dogurais Stärken liegen leider direkt im Trailer, welcher mit großartigen Artworks der Bossgegner und dem vermutlich besten Song des Spiels daherkommt.
Im Spiel aber kommt wenig von diesem Charme rüber. Es soll aussehen wie ein Gameboy Spiel und hält sich an die sehr limitierte Farbpalette. Allerdings nutzt man diese weit weniger gut aus als die meisten späteren Gameboy Titel welche wirklich viele detaillierte Sprites und Hintergründe in vier Grautönen liefern konnten. Dogurai hat die meiste Zeit nur flache Hintergründe, welche mit dem Spielersprite verschmelzen.
Das Gameplay ist erstaunlich flach mit nur wenigen verschiedenen Feinden die sich häufig wiederholen, seltsam implementierten Quick-Time-Events und Plattforming welches dich häufig in die Ungewissheit springen lässt. In einem Level bin ich zwei mal in eine Falle gesprungen welche von meiner eigenen Lebensenergie verdeckt wurden.
Und dann fühlt es sich dank des Sounddesigns auch häufig noch recht unfertig an? Es verfolgt dich eine riesige Lavawand, aber ohne Soundeffekt. Du fährst auf einem Motorrad über schmerzhaft platzierte Plattformen, aber ohne Soundeffekt. Du tötest in Slowmotion und möglichst cool inszeniert einen großen Feind, aber selbst das, you guessed it, ohne passende Soundeffekte.
Dogurai ist keineswegs "schrecklich", aber auch nichts was man wohl je aktiv heraussuchen würde.
Keineswegs ist es ein hidden Gem, und das ist schade da zumindest in der artistischen Seite eine menge Talent steckt.
Die Artworks im Trailer und ein paar wenige der Grafiken (bspw die Explosionen) sprechen dafür. Mehr ist es dann aber auch nicht.

Bom level design, músicas que ficam na cabeça, uma dificuldade alta, mas não injusta além de segredos e 2 finais fazem desse jogo uma excelente pedida para todo fã de Megaman

Short Review: Dogurai is an amazing game, featuring really good action and gameplay, distinct and interesting levels and bosses, and is overall super worth your time. It's easily one of the best games I've played this year, and I'm NOT saying this lightly.
Long Review:
First and foremost, I am NOT a fan of "retro" stuff. That being said, Dogurai is much, much more than simply a "retro" game - it's a work made with love, a really fun game and a cool experience.
-Gameplay: Dogurai's gameplay is simple, yet delivers everything it needs to - fast paced combat, with a good variety of enemy and interesting bosses with different patterns. Everything feels unique, and nothing is out of place. Most common enemies are there just as a minor roadblock or distraction, but bosses are just hard enough where it feels great to both learn and beat them.
-Level Design: Featuring 8 different levels, Dogurai has no shortage of interesting levels, scenarios and platforms. Ranging from more platform, timing based levels, to ones mostly focused on combat (and a cool bike ride), every new stage you enter feels new.
-Characters: EVERYTHING. LOOKS. SO. GOOD. From playable characters, to simple enemies, to bosses, every design is unique, interesting and, honestly, just cool as hell. There's not much to say about this, just know its real good.
-Visual Style: Not gonna lie, I was worried that, due to the color limitations of trying to stay faithful to gameboy games, I thought this game would lose a bit in visual style, and maybe even create some confusion, like with enemies or the playable character blending in with scenario. Nope. The style works really really well, nothing gets lost in the scenario and you can really tell what everything is - pipes, plants, boxes, you name it.
-Extra stuff and collectables: This game features quite a lot of little extra stuff you can do, and it's all clear and said by the game. It makes sure you know what it uses its most important collectable for, and other little things can be found in your achievements. Trust me, you'll probably want to make some, if not all, of the extras.
-Overall story: While not featuring much of a story, Dogurai delivers just enough so you have a context of what is going on in the world and with its characters - and that by no means is a bad thing. The strongest aspect in this point, for me, is the relationship betweetn its characters (which you'll have to play to know).
I think I'm not missing anything, so let's wrap it up!
Dogurai is an excellent game and totally worth playing even if you're just a little bit interested. You won't regret it.
This game is a solid 9/10, even comparing to big titles and AAA games.
It does well what is supposed to do: be a platformer that plays like old games and definitely feels like you are playing on a gameboy/old system.
My only complaint would be probably that it feels a little bit short, but if retro-plataformers is your thing, it's worth it.

[b] Dogurai [/b] is a faithful retro platformer that seems to take inspiration from classics like [i] Mega Man [/i] and [i]Ninja Gaiden[/i]. The first stage is preset, but you will be able to choose the order for some of the levels, each ending with the boss fight. On normal difficulty, you get infinite lives so it probably won't take longer than 3 hours to finish, although the harder mode would be a lot more challenging due to constant death pits. I would say that Dogurai is above average when compared to similar retro-themed platformers. The movement is relatively basic - you can double jump, slide, and occasionally juggle heavy enemies with quick-time events. I never felt like the game was unfair or too frustrating because the controls and platforming are very tight. Compared to something like [i] Tayal [/i], it's not nearly as hard. It has a decent variety of levels, including a motorcycle ride and a classic lava chase. Most of the bosses were fun, although I would argue that they needed a larger health bar (killed some of them in 20 seconds with little practice). I only finished the game once, but it seems like there might be at least one alternate ending based on collectibles.

I think the game is solid all around and I enjoyed it from start to finish. It's a little bit expensive compared to similar games, but if you need to scratch that nostalgia for retro platformers, I think it can do the job very well. I have no real issues with it, aside from the fact that I have been playing the same type of game all my life (looking for some originality as well).

Jogo bom e divertido com varias lembranças nostálgicas!
Acabei de receber esse jogo e não imaginava que ele seria bom desse jeito, vi uma gameplay dele em uma fase de "teste" distribuída ao pessoal do Cartuchito e não imaginava que o jogo seria assim. Ele é bem completo, simples e bem divertido.
Em resumo, diria que ele daria um 8/10 por ter pontos muitos positivos, como jogabilidade fluida e bem funcional, musicas boas de se escutar e que combinam em parte com o ambiente e um gráfico bonito mesmo sendo simples, apesar dele ser todo feito com uma tabela de cor a cada level, não é nada que deixe seus olhos cansados em ficar olhando.
Agora como complemento, digo que os únicos problemas que o jogo pode ter é algumas mecânicas que as vezes podem te atrapalhar como o slide, e um level designe em si que achei um pouco "difícil", mesmo pra quem já é mais experiente ou que simplesmente pretende "rushar" um pouco mais.
Acredito também que alguns inimigos poderiam ter uma IA um pouco mais aprimorada, já que a variedade deles são poucas, mas todos em si são bons e alguns foram muito bem posicionados para dar aquele "breake" na sua run.
Na minha opinião, achei o jogo muito bom em todos os ambos, gostei das referencias, easter eggs e do final bem explicartivo e a forma clara que ele deixa que existe mais de um final, o que me deixou ainda mais interessado em rejogar e buscar o verdadeiro 100%
Unica critica é ao cenários de fundos que são muito estáticos e os bosses não oferecem muita dificuldade.
Agradeço a equipe de desenvolvimento pelo jogo, pois já está na minha lista de um dos melhores jogos que joguei e/ou vi em 2019.
