Played this game on a while back on my Ex's old MAC and brought on steam since it was so cheap an d on sale to leave my review, i won't lie though this isn't my type of game and only played it once when my EX basically forced me to XD. I like that even though the main theme of the game is death it goes in a whole different direction the horror the more cozy and calm feeling is a nice change of pace for the dead and i like it for that reason. The game while extremely basic looking, like it looks like a cool math game if I'm being completely honest, does have some charm to it. The cutesy art style is plus and the beautiful portrait art does help mask the cheap feel of the game. Gameplay rise it's pretty basic, but for this type of game you really don't need anything but the basic's is suppose. I wish it wasn't so hand holdy though most if not all the conflict in the game is always sorted out for the player even when we fail and i think it could of been slight more challenging. The music is really well done a lot of great tracks here so bonus points there. [Gameplay 10/20. Graphics 12/20. Story 13/20. Music 15/20. Repalyabilty 5/10.] Final Grade 5.5/10 Final Score 6/10.
Short but fun game
Decided to replay this game after five years. Has a lot of heart. Deals with grief and death in a positive manner.
This game has a great story you really gotta play through the first two days and nights to really start enjoying your self the first day you can't do to much but as you go through each day and night the more things you can do the more entities you can interact with it really is such a great story.
This is...not what I was expecting. I anticipated a point-and-click adventure game, not a smaller, less colourful Stardew-like. I completed the first day and feel absolutely no desire to continue playing. Apparently it's short, but it doesn't feel like a game I want to stick with for more than a couple hours.
this is a short and very sweet game that I thought was wonderful. the story is interesting, the characters are engaging and the art is lovely. I got the best ending and will definitely be going back to try the other choices.
short but a hidden gem.
I cannot remember what lead me to finding this game. However, the moment I took a look at it, I knew I had to buy it. RPG Maker games with love and care put into them are right up my alley. As I played it I fell in love with the characters, the story, the theme and topic as well as mechanics. I'm not too big of a fan regarding management mechanics, but they didn't hold me back from loving this game. In a very short time, it entered my heart and I often think about it, even now that I have finished it. I highly recommend this game. I even added it to my favourite games, maxed out the badge and got all the achievements. I would play it all over again in a heartbeat.
love this game!
Story
I really loved this game. I still think about it all the time. Strong story and art. Simple mechanics but that doesn't bother me. I'd definitely look forward to a new game by the same team if it ever came about.
Not alot I can say that hasn't already been said, lol. A very cute little game with some fun characters and a lovely art style.
I haven't tried the new game+ yet but it seems like it'll be fun to have alittle more challenge on top of getting to see more of these ghostly guests.
Beautiful game
Simple. Nothing wrong with that.
This was a fun little game with an interesting story-line, and the artwork was nice. But, it was much too short as I completed it in 4½ hours.
I loved this game. So cute. Would play expansions where she stays with Hermina and keeps the B&B going.
A sweet and uplifting little game that you can beat in a few hours. Despite being short, you come to grow attached to all of the characters introduced, and nothing feels rushed. The art is quite cute and the cut-scenes towards the end of the game definitely tugged at my heartstrings! To me, the game also served as a gentle reminder to let those you love know that, often. It's easy to get caught up in the monotony of life...and it comes at you fast sometimes.
The art, story & Character development is wholesome + Music is a sense of comfort vibe^ As well 2nd play through makes you think on your spending as well shows certain conversations + dialogues between certain characters as well hidden events & connections^ Do look forward if there's some sort of prequel or sequel to this game's story!
The good:
+ Pleasant story, albeit doesn't dive deep enough.
+ Interesting character cast.
+ A/B choice with multiple endings.
+ Chill gameplay which forgive some mistake. Although you'll want to put a bit effort to get best ending/unlock achievement.
+ Fairly good artstyle, even though the game could add more animation (such as watering flower).
The bad: -
The ugly:
* New Game+ is fine way to extend gameplay duration. But some player may not enjoy it since has higher difficulty (considering this game is story/character-driven) or there aren't that many addition.
* The control feel a bit clunky. And if you spam to skip conversation (usually on New Game+), you could accidentally choose unwanted choice.
Corinne Cross's Dead & Breakfast is great relaxing game which tackle serious issue in lighweighted way. But if you're looking for game which tackle serious issue more extensively, story with long lasting impact or unforgettable character, then this game isn't for you.
Corinne Cross's Dead & Breakfast is a cute, wholesome, short (ca. 3 hours) narrative game, presented in a 2D side-view perspective, with mild resource management and puzzle elements.
1. Story & Setting
You reluctantly agree to tend to the house of an elderly lady whose son (a schoolmate of yours) has died, and who has to spend a week in a hospital. You soon notice that the house, a retired bed-and-breakfast, is occupied by several ghosts. Over the course of 7 in-game days, you learn the ghosts' stories and have opportunities to help them transition into the afterlife. In the process, you also develop gardening and cooking skills.
The story is told in a relaxed, empathic, thoughtful way and generally nicely written - it's noticeable that that the developer is a native speaker with good command of her language. The small cast of characters (4 ghosts, 2 shopkeepers, the elderly lady, a neighbor, and the protagonist) is distinct and lovingly designed, I could relate to their feelings and understand their dilemmas. The story arcs are fairly linear, but your actions will determine whether or not you can get the "best ending" for each of the NPCs.
2. Gameplay & Mechanics
You'll spend most of your time reading and clicking through various conversations, with a few rare occasions where your decision can influence the further path of an NPC.
In addition to the narrative gameplay, the game also has gardening and cooking mechanics, but they are held very simple. You can only grow one type of flowers in your garden, and all you have to do is putting dirt and seeds in a pot, which you then need to water on two different days. For cooking, you need to learn a recipe (these are either hidden around the house, or given as quest rewards), buy the ingredients from a grocery store, and play a color-coded "press the key at the right time" minigame.
Since all of the ghosts' story arcs require items that can only be bought at the grocery store, you'll need to generate some money, which you do by selling grown flowers to the florist. This gameplay element, together with the 7-day limit, introduces a mild resource management challenge - but with a bit of forethought, I found it pretty easy to accrue all the money I needed. The game is fairly easy in general and I had no trouble getting the "best ending" for each NPC in my first playthrough. There is a "New Game+" mode that is supposedly a bit more challenging and also includes additional content, but while I did enjoy the story, I doubt that it has enough variation to make replaying it so soon enjoyable for me, so I did not do that yet.
3. Graphics & Presentation
The game uses a 2D side-view with occasional sidescrolling for ther larger rooms. Graphics are stylized and very lo-fi, but get the job done. Soft, relaxed background music as well as occasional sound effects support the atmosphere. The game does not have any voice-acting, and while that may have helped giving the characters even more personality, they are generally written well enough to make VA unnecessary.
While the game generally has rather low production levels, all artistic elements fit together nicely, and no part was detrimental to my enjoyment. A few details (like the lighting differences between day and night, or the reward splash-screens for most characters) are done quite nicely.
4. Usability & Accessibility
The game's settings consist of 4 volume settings, an "always dash" toggle, and a very comfortable key rebinding system. Instead of listing actions and letting you assign one or two keys to each of them, it displays a keyboard and lets assign any action to any key. You could, if you wanted, assign the "inventory" function to more than 50 different keys. This system unfortunately also has a downside - since the displayed keyboards only offers the US ASCII layout, there is no way to assign functions to language-specific keys that do not exist in that layout. Nevertheless, this system should cover more than 95% of cases where players want or need to rebind their keys, and it's very nice that this single indie developer invested the time and effort to provide an important feature that many triple-A products in this genre neglect.
The game starts in a small window that you can maximize, but there is no fullscreen (or borderless windowed) view available.
The UI is generally clear and intuitive, and most of it (though not all) can be navigated with the mouse. Unfortunately, contrary to point-and-click adventures, the mouse cannot be used to move around or interact with objects. For the latter, you have to approach the object and face it, then press the "interact" key or use an inventory item. This feels rather clunky compared to mouse controls, but didn't cause any problems in my playthrough.
The game provides 9 save slots, but can only be saved in one specific room. Thankfully, saving does not automatically end the day or night. Time does not progress automatically, and there's no hurry except in 3 specific scenes when you're playing hide-and-seek with one of the ghosts.
The fact that I never ran into any bugs adds to the impression of a well-polished product that was designed with care for the user experience.
On a side note, the game is completely free of scares, gore, and vulgar language. It manages to keep a positive outlook despite (obviously) having sad or melancholic parts in most of its stories. With its careful handling of its difficult main theme, it might offer a fine way to introduce the topic of death to young ones.
5. Conclusion
I recommend Corinne Cross's Dead & Breakfast to players who appreciate relaxed, empathic ghost stories. It's very short, but well worth its low cost.
A small story based game that deals with heavy topics ins a non-heavy way. Less of a point and click, more of an interactive novel with gardening and cooking elements. Encounter ghosts and grow flowers to sell and buy ingredients for recipes that you find. The main focus is the story, with the other elements being more to create pacing between the story segments.
I enjoyed it, worth replying for achievements.
its cute and fun, would reccomend.
Corinne Cross’s Dead & Breakfast is a very pleasant surprise. You play as Corinne, a young woman who is housesitting a Bed&Breakfast for the mother of a friend who recently passed away. It turns out said B&B is not as empty as she thinks it is…
It’s a pretty short game that deals with themes of grief, friendship and companionship, and the importance of little gestures of kindness in an often unjust world. The art style is fairly simple but pretty, the CGs very nice to look at, and while 80% of the game consists in exploring and talking to the characters, there are some nice mini-games centered around cooking and gardening that give it some additional rhythm.
Overall Corinne Cross is very chill but also heartfelt and I think the game deals very well with heavy themes in a light but non-superficial way. Also liked the NG+ mode which is essentially a retelling of the same story but with additional scenes and dialogue and some bonuses if you explore the house and its surroundings at the right time.
I was charmed by Corinne Cross’s Dead & Breakfast. It's pretty much the antithesis of a horror game and while it is not overtly ambitious it does hits the right notes for everything it sets out to do. The price is really perfect for what you get in this experience, and I can't recommend it enough to people who enjoy story-driven games. I’m really looking forward to the developer’s next game!
I'm not crying. You're crying!
Seriously though, this was such a sweet game that had me wanting to experience more from this world and story. It even had me wanting to do the daily tasks to a grind extent for the satisfaction of it. I will definitely be replaying in the future for the extra unlocked content.
loved the music
A pretty game that gently explores themes around death and socializing.
This is a wonderful and very heart-warming game. The story is delightful, telling of Corinne's coming to terms with her status as a medium to the ghostly inhabitants of the B&B she finds herself taking care of for a week. In that time, you are tasked with taking care of said ghosts by looking after their needs, each in a slightly different way. There is an "action point management" element to it, as everything makes the player character more tired, but I never went below 50% in my standard play - I believe NG+ is harder. I completed a "standard" game in just under 2.5 hours, with New Game+ mode opening up after that, so I suspect the game is 100%able in about 5-6 hours.
The game is consistently upbeat and, as it says, not scary. It does take some fairly heavy subject matter and slide over it a little freely, but that suits the nature of what the game wants to be.
The art style is great, and the music is perfect for the length of the game. I also think the controls have been updated since some reviews, as I had no difficulty with them. The only thing that seemed a little odd to me is that one of the later rooms that you can unlock has an exit that is different to that which you expect, and I found myself entering (or trying to enter) another room more often than leaving the room itself. I understand the design choice, but in a game I find little issue with, it was oddly frustrating.
I highly recommend this game, and hope that you get the same enjoyment from it that I did.
Very cute game! I enjoyed the art style- very fun game if you just want to sit back and relax with a game.
This game is really short and cute. Right up my alley with the little ghosts and the touching story. I left this game wanting a little bit more, though. There wasn't a ton of gameplay and it only took me a few hours to 100% it with new game plus. But it's cute and fun!
I've been meaning to play this game for a while and I'm very happy I did. It's a cute little game that's short and sweet, takes only a few hours to complete. It centers around the death of a young boy and our main character has to run the Bed and Breakfast in his mother's place. Grief and moving on it a big theme in this game and I think it's handled very well. This is not a scary game, ghost are in it but they're friendly and cute. There is gardening and cooking in the game and it has a lot of reply volue to get all the endings. I'm happy I played it and I hope others play and enjoy it to!
This game was an unexpected delight! If you're on the fence about buying it, it's absolutely worth the price. The story is sweet, and the simple (logical. I actually want to say logical) gameplay makes for a wonderful experience. Absolutely give it a try! I'm excited to see more from this developer.
A cute little game about letting the past go and moving forward to the future. This a game that will put you in a good mood and wash away your stress.
I fell in love with the art first, and then the story which was short but sweet and it sends a very good message about the process of moving on and letting go of the past. Overall an amazing game!
Maybe too sugar-coated in treatment of some heavy topics... but on the other hand, not everything must be cynical or grim at any cost. It's simply sweet little game.
A really sweet and relaxing sort of game. I enjoyed this from start to finish
Really cute and touching
I really liked this game and I would recommend. Its fun and i definitely would like to see something longer and more in depth as I loved the art, loved the writing, atmosphere, ect. However, on night six going up to the third floor and inspecting the locked door, I got a crash. Also theres some stock music in the game which is fine, Kevin Macleod is great, but one of the tracks used is the most common and generic "youtube upbeat music" type song i've heard a billion times and scenes with this song made me want to mute or speed through the scene so I could avoid the song. Other than that some of the "best ending" stuff with telling people to "follow their dreams" was kinda... ehhh. I don't really agree with the message and it came across as a little naive or out of touch.
除此之外,唯一想补充的两点就是成就,全成就指南并没有写明的是,Gale 的 Good Ending 必须最后选择不 Cast Spell,以及 Chole 的 Good Ending 必须在第七天时回答 Persuade Her Dream。
A really cute little game that makes you feel happy. Really awesome art style, and a great story. Very chill. Glad I decided to try it out.
No too complex to play, but the story within is a beautiful one. I would highly recommend this game. 10/10
Cute game, but your progress shouldn't regress to zero if you toggle on hints mid way through the game.
Thoughtful, gentle, and very touching. You play a young woman housesitting for a week as a favor to her mother; the mother's dear friend is in the hospital, having had a flareup of a chronic illness on top of having recently lost her son, a friend of yours you fell out of touch with when you both left for different colleges. The house itself was a bed and breakfast, now closed, but on your first night you find it isn't as empty as you had thought. There are ghosts here, drawn by a combination of the house and your latent talent and your potential compassion, should you choose to play that way (and you should. Just sayin') As the game progresses you find out more about them, your mother's friend, the neighbor, the local shopkeepers, and yourself. This is an excellent game for when you're feeling introspective.
Czym Corinne wypełni sobie czas w trakcie bezsennych nocy?
Co jest HOT:
+ ciepła opowieść nawet nie o śmierci, nie o żałobie, tylko o pożegnaniach;
+ przyłożenie się do szczegółów, często opcjonalnych (np. sprawdzania postów na Niefejsbuku, czy podlewanie domowych kwiatków) i estetycznych (światło księżyca wpadające przez okno, obrazki na ścianach);
+ bardzo przyjemna grafika - może miejscami projekty mogły być lepsze, ale zawsze nadrabiają kolorami;
+ New Game + poza ekonomicznym wyzwaniem dodaje nowe scenki i dialogi.
A co NO WIESZ, TO ZALEŻY:
~ gra skupia się przede wszystkim na klimacie i relacjach między postaciami: gameplay jest prosty, ogranicza się do rozsądnego zarządzania kasą, podlewania kwiatów, kolekcjonowania składników, zabawy w chowanego na czas i jednoprzyciskowej mini-gierki z gotowaniem. Jeżeli tego typu gry działają na ciebie tylko wtedy, gdy historia idzie w parze z angażującym gameplajem - to może nie.
"Corinne Cross's Dead & Breakfast" to gra, do której najlepiej pasuje określenie "słodka".
I found this game completely by accident - between the art style and all the positive reviews, I decided to give it a go. I'm so glad that I did, the game is so charming and heartwarming. The characters are really well done; the game is relatively short, but I still cared for all the characters. There's enough of a management puzzle in there to make it more than a visual novel, which I personally appreciated.
There's just something about this game that compelled me to actually write something about it before jumping back in to the new game+. I think the dev made it with love, and that shows.
this was a wonderful sweet game. I was never bored. Loved the story.
Sometimes when you think a game must be good because its expensive and everyone is playing it, it turns out not to be so.
then you find a hidden gem like this game, at a low price but very engaging and interesting with the most cute graphics, and characters.
IF your on the fence about buying it, just DO IT. GREAT LITTLE GAME.
A very cute, short game. A nice little story, sad but lovely
A Short, Sweet and Adorable RPG with plenty of Warmth when it tells a story of ghosts bound in a Bed & Breakfast.
This game aims to covey a positive message outlook when discussing the loss of loved ones and how not to look at death so very sadly.
I'd recommend this for anyone who wants to play casually with cute graphics, simple story and develop some warm and sweet feelings while playing.
This game was short and so sweet. The price definitely reflects the short length of the game.
It has a heartwarming and very enjoyable story.
The controls were strange at first but the tutorial made it quick and easy to understand.
Absolutely buy this game! :)
Lovely story and game.
This is a thoughtful, touching game that I felt dealt tastefully with death and grieving. It actually made me feel better after playing it, with my own mother having passed recently.
It's about 2 hours in length, with a New Game+ mode that adds depth to the characters you would not normally see.
I found Corinne Cross's Dead & Breakfast to be a very enjoyable experience. The characters and cute artistic direction were my favorite elements, as they really brought the game to life. Taking a ride to Chloe's Roses with an inventory full of exquisite white flowers always brought a smile to my face. Chloe always knew I had the best green thumb in town! ;)
Corinne Cross's Dead & Breakfast is a shining example that good writing and smart attention to detail are vital to a game having a soul. Something that is sorely lacking in many of today's games.
Adorable artwork, engaging story, and enough variety of tasks to keep you occupied as you progress through the premise. Short, but fulfilling.
This is a cute, short, thoughtful little game. Lots of contemplations on life and death that doesn't pull punches when it comes to the loss of children. In about two to two and a half hours, you'll be given a lot to think about between games of hide and seek, cooking breakfast, banging your head against locked doors, and trying to find where Mrs. Julia hid all the freakin candles only to realize what you thought was a candle was actually a soap dispenser.
But that's life, isn't it?
A cute little story about Breakfeast and Ghosts.
Even though there were things that bothered me about this game (the bizarre controls, small window, and relatively short play time) I am glad I bought it. The ending left me with a happy feeling :) It's a cute little story and it was worth what I paid. I really got into the characters, too, and I'm usually not that in to visual novels. I am very much looking forward to the new game on which the developer is working.
After a long day of work, all I really wanted to do was help entertain ghosts in a B&B. Thankfully this game exists so I was able to do just that. I got personally invested in all of their lives and just happy I could give them a bit of happiness in the grimmest of circumstances. I recommend anyone to take some time out to do the same.
All around really enjoyable. I'd recommend picking it up.
I enjoyed it both on my first run-through and in new game plus.
This is a very cute game with simple game play and real life lessons to teach. I picked it up thinking it was going to be similar to Stardew Valley, or maybe a Dinner Dash, but instead I got a really good game with an actual storyline. Pleasantly surprised with the extra story line in the Medium+ after the first run.
It may not look like much at a first glance, but Corinne Cross's Dead & Breakfast is an absolute delight.
The story and their characters are wonderful and when presented with the option to go for a new game+ I didn't think twice and jumped right in. And it was so worth it!
It's the perfect length to be played in one go, preferrably at night and without distractions.
Take your time and enjoy all the love for details you'll find along the way.
I was thrilled to learn that a spin-off game is in the works and can't wait to get back into this world!
Entertaining short game with cute characters.
Cute little game! The drawing style is especially enjoyable. It's pretty simple to play and really relaxing! I thought Hermina was a ghost the whole time...
Only negative is that the achievements didn't really unlock after the first one or two.
This is such a beautiful game with a really meaningful storyline about loss, and not wasting a moment. I will say that the controls are a little difficult to grasp, but the stunning visuals and realistic characters easily make up for that. Every single character is well-developed and likeable, and there are fun little quests to keep you occupied so there's never really a dull moment. If you have the chance, definitely play this game!
Such a cute game. It's short but packs in great characters and story. Beautiful aesthetic. Totally loved it.
Usually I am not into "story rich" games, but this is one of those exceptions to the rule. I have finished the game, only found 8 recipes (I know now why, thanks to the great guide), and will replay the game so I can get hold of all 10 recipes.
This is such a fun and entertaining game, with lovely graphics and colours, and a wonderful set of characters. I highly recommend this game to anyone who likes to play a relaxed game.
While short, this is definitely worth the time (especially if it's on sale). It took me about two hours finish the initial story line. It's such a wholesome and healing game with fantastic art, but for those looking for riviting game play, this won't be the game for you. However, if you're looking for a good story, give this one a whirl. For anyone mourning a loved one, or to those who think often about death and it's consequences, this is a great source of comfort and thought.
This game is charming and very fun. I would definitely recommend it for a night in.
A nice little idea with some pretyt well fleshed out characters despite the length of the game. Things actually change enough in the Game+ to make a replay worthwhile.
Recommended.
This game deserves many more positive reviews!
Corinne Cross's Dead & Breakfast is a little point and click adventure where you play Corrine, who is house sitting what used to be a bed and breakfast. She is an insomniac and divides her odd day/night awake time between the locals of this little town and the ghosts who show up after her first night.
Charming graphics make this little story very endearing. It was a slight adjustment to get used to keyboard only controls and figuring out how to deal with the game's resolution (you can change it in-game by looking and Corinne's laptop). But it is a simple set up which does not take any kind of fast reaction time or anything like that. And if you've played other keyboard control/RPGmaker games you will already be used to it.
Story-wise I want to give this game ten gold stars. There's no sarcasm or trying to be edgy, it's just people saying their thoughts and trying to do their best when faced with one of the hardest subjects any of us will have to deal with: death. The NPCs gave a surprisingly heartfelt performance and you'll find smiles and tears here in a way that few if any video games can pull off.
I hope the people behind this game can keep making wonderful things like CCD&B. I definitely recommend this game, it's worth the full price tag.
I am very very excited to play this game again as it gives new content to replays! 10/10
This is such a good and charming game! I'm glad it was kind of short, because I pretty much couldn't walk away once I got going. I didn't expect to get so into planning a breakfast menu for ghosts, but helping them with their problems felt so good that I teared up at a couple of points. This is a seemingly simple game, but it's got a lot to say, and I found the dialogue very impacting and insightful at points. I absolutely loved it, and I hope this developer does more!

Corinne Cross’s Dead & Breakfast is a delightful little sidescrolling game. Initially developed for Indie Game Maker 2015, a month-long contest for which it won first prize, it was updated and revamped for official release with everything polished to a shine. So, overall, it’s short but sweet.
Corinne Cross is, like me, a twenty-something year old who doesn’t quite know what to do with herself after college. A friend of hers from high school had just died, and his mother is in the hospital. Corinne Cross steps in to look after her house - which used to be a Bed & Breakfast - for a week as the mother recovers. The Bed & Breakfast butts up next to a cemetery, and the old lady who runs it seems to know something you don’t… that the B&B is still in business, except the guests never go home!
The art is absolutely adorable and the colors are rich, the writing is cute, and the gameplay is simple. The vast majority of the game is just talking to people all the time, which I love. There are simple mechanics like a flower-growing mechanic, a cooking mechanic, and an energy meter, but these are simple, sweet, and don’t feel unfair. There’s a New Game+ mode that makes things harder, presumably by increasing how much energy each action takes, Even though it’s a short game, with how inflated my backlog is I figured it’d be better to put it aside for now to revisit later.
If you’re thinking of picking it up, please do!
Such an adorable little game! It's short, sweet, the characters are cute and the story made me smile the whole time. Wish they would make a second part or another one with the same concept but longer, maybe in a time-management style.
Super cute. Enjoyed making friends with all the ghosts. The first 3 days feel kind of slow, but otherwise I have no complaints.
I just finished playing this game, and I'm so impressed with all the love and dedication put on it! :3
Super cute, super fun and super well done!
Thank you so much for this amazing game, I wish you all the luck in your future projects!
:)
I sure do recommend this game! It's short, but every single second of it it's amazing!
It's a gorgeous little game. The sprites and art and soundtrack are all lovely.
In the normal game, it's relatively difficult to completely fail in whatever you are doing.
And the story is ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ heartwrenching.
Totally worth the five dollars. I'm psyched for the spinoff game! :D
I am not a heavy gamer, I'm more of a casual player. However, Corinne Cross's Dead & Breakfast got my attention from the moment I saw it. I'm an aesthetic person. If I don't like the graphics, chances are I won't be playing. I'm picky about my games, especially if I'm going to play them long-term. Bad Chalk did a marvelous job with engaging yet casual gameplay, beautiful artwork and graphics (naturally, the Steam cards are gorgeous as well!), and an intriguing storyline.
The game is short, but that's only because I always want more of the story. Bad Chalk delivers well-rounded characters and an imaginative plot in such a short span that, as a fan of stories, I become addicted to replaying the game. I'll be starting on my 3rd play thought soon and I have yet to dare myself to try the New Game+ option. I will say that as both a writer and aspiring substantive editor, the story might be short, but it does give a very satisfying ending each time. It wraps up sub-plots beautifully whether you get the best happy ending or not. I cannot wait for more games from this developer and am excited that they have announced on their social media sites that they will be continuing to develop games!
Short, but worth the price. I have 4.7 hrs on record and went through it twice to get all the achievements.
I didn't expect much coming into this game but I was surprised at how sweet and cute it is.
I just wish it was longer!

Corinne Cross's Dead & Breakfast
Platform: PC
Time: 2-3 hours
Genre: Indie, story-driven, adventure
Corinne Cross's Dead & breakfast is made by Bad Chalk, and is one of those small indie games you just "stumble upon". I loved the look of it from the very first time I found it. I "saved" it on my steam wishlist, and actually forgot about it for awhile. Steam will never let you forget, and when the game got updated, it came back on my front page reminding me that this game existed - I bought it right away.
CCDB is about a girl named Corinne who just lost a friend. Her mom made her house-sit the friend's moms house - Because the mom got sick and went to the hospital. She quickly found out that this isn't an ordinary house, well - and It's actually also an Bed and breakfast - And for a week she needs to keep it all together.
She learns that she isn't an ordinary girl either.
This game was so beautiful and sweet. The style is great and the story is really nice. It's short, yes, and it could be longer - But I liked every day that went buy in-game. I would rather play a short neat game like this, than watch most movies. It was a great experience.
I actually liked the game a lot more after reading a bit about the dev. It's (as far as I know) made by only one person - Cecilia Bishton - a computer game development student. It's so well done, and I'm really looking forward to try out her other games she is working on when they get released!
If you are fan of the small story-driven adventure genre, and loves to play indie games, go check out this game!
Corinne Cross’s Dead and Breakfast is such a sweet and lovely game. If you’re interested in ghosts, cooking, gardening, or accepting the existence of death, then this is the game for you.
The art and music are beautiful, perfectly suited to the story. The characters are all interesting and I would have talked to them all far more if I could.
If you want a short (the base game took about 2-3 hours for the best ending) and sweet game to play then you need to get this.
Corinne cross's Dead & breakfast, a super sweet, charming little home. Would definitely stay there whether it existed in real life or even just in game. Enjoyable from start to finish, with many fun, memorable moments throughout. Relaxing and charming gameplay, with an adorable art style and a story totally worth your time. I've always enjoyed staying in bed & breakfasts but now it'll be a little more special each time as i know how fun it can be to host one. even if its for just a week. Not to mention the adventures you can get into and friends you can make in such a short but wonderful time.
This game was so awesome! It has a lot of great story and the characters are very detailed. It deals with greif and loss and carries an overall good message. The art is beautiful. The game + just makes it even better.
This game is a great little gem! The art is cute, the gameplay is minimal but charming and the music is lovely but what really stands out is the writing. As someone who has lost a few people in my life (some closer than others), I found the way this story dealt with death and mourning to be really realistic. From the "sad" messages on instaface, an in-game social media website to the really heavy stuff like a mother mourning her child, each facet was handled with wisdom, heart, and humor that I found really enjoyable. On top of the deft handling of such heavy themes, the characters were all interesting and I was happy to get a chance to talk to them every chance I could. I have to admit I cried a lot at certain points of this game but that just speaks to how well-written it was and how much the creator had made me care.
The only slight complaint I could possibly make about this game is that you can't check the recipes you know to figure out what you need to buy without interacting with the stove which uses up some of your energy for the day. At some points, especially in the second playthrough, you don't really have energy to spare so it's a bit of an inconvience but one that can be worked around easily if you just make sure to write down the recipes as you learn them on a pad of paper.
Aside from this small thing though, Corinne Cross's Dead & Breakfast is a charming game and a genuinely impressive piece of work for what seems to be a basically one person studio. I can't wait to see what they will come out with next!
Wonderful rpg, emotional and beautifully made, so many routes, plus a new game plus makes replaying even better
A short game about grief and moving on after loss.
The hand-drawn / watercolor-y art style is very charming.
Has a New Game+ mode with extra story bits.
Pros:
*Music, for a small game it's cute music and fitting.
*Characters, some are likeable, some need to grow on you, some are mysterious, there's a variety!
*Story, wonderful story and in my opinion definitely worth a second playthrough for the New Game+ extra scenes.
Definitely a very different and cute little short game that I thoroughly enjoyed playing through twice in 5 hours. I won't be forgetting this one anytime soon.
Cons:
*I wanted more! xD Gosh I wish it was longer, but for the price it was plenty of content. *crosses fingers* sequel?
I initially picked up this game because I'm a big fan of Blackwell and ghost games really get my engine going. But after playing it, I've realized this game really stands in a league of its own. Anyone can tell you that it's precious and charming - I mean, just look at it! But it actually takes a little bit of strategy, and I couldn't even find all the recipes or get every character's best ending on the first go. And speaking of the characters, they are all written so well and so human that I was in tears by the end of the game because my heart was so full for each of them. It's not a grandiose game by any means, but a cozy little trip, and sometimes that's just what I need.
Such a cute little game! It was a little sad but happy in the end :')
pros:
-Pure content... If you need a game that will make you feel good and smile on a rainy day, this game is great. The story is simple and cute and it only takes a few hours to play through it.
-Visually pleasing
-Easy to understand objective as they are pretty clearly laid out.
-Allows you to walk faster... yes, this is THAT imporant. Nothing annoys me more thn a game that forces me to move slowly.
-I enjoyed that they threw in "amount of energy" and money management, it makes you think more carefully about what you do.
-For the price it's totally worth it...
cons:
-Glitchy ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ achievments... I beat this entire game with nothing to show for it even though I should have gotten close to all of them except the
"10 flower pot"
achievment. This, was very upsetting for me as someone who enjoys unlocking achiemvents to show for their hard work... Achivmenets validate all the time I waste gaming lol. This was upsetting enough to where I probably wont do the harder mode play through.
-The controls kinda suck and you cannot change them around to fit what works for you. I have a gaming laptop and was physically uncomfortable for a lot of it. BUT, after a while i did adjust/just got used to it.
-If you press f12 the FREAKING STEAM SCREENSHOT BUTTON FOR ALL GAMES, it exits the game without asking first and without saving. This, was, infurriating... As I am also someone who likes to remember games by taking screenshots of the most memorable moments.
Cute game.
This is an incredible short and sweet game. The writing is fantastic and makes you adore the characters with its unique premises. I also enjoyed the new game + mode which adds a lot of replayability with its new story arcs. By the end, I just wanted more. I can't wait to see what this developer can push out.
Got this during the Summer Sale. Delightful! The story is cute, the "best ending" is adorable, New Game+ gives you some extras, and it's easy. Good casual game.
I enjoyed this game. I played it through twice (so I could play the 2nd mode).
The achievement problem persists so if you haven't gotten an achievement for a while (even if you got one or two initially) consider reinstalling the game early.
Play this if you're looking for a neat little story that will last you 2-3 hours.
Some depth of storytelling, but not too heavy.
A short two hour game but it's really charming
It made me cry a bit, bittersweet feelings everywhere!
The art is really cute too.
I usually do not write reviews. I will make an exception for this game, because it deserves some praise. The game is short,(about two and a half hours to get through the maingame, depending on your fafery level).
It is Pretty,
It is Sweet.
It is Short,
It has charm.
If you are reading this Miss Dev, I am looking forward to seeing more games from you.
