Alpha Polaris is an oldschool adventure game focusing on slow-burning character driven horror and environmental themes. It draws inspiration from such sources as Inuit legends and Cthulhu mythos.
In the midst of the snowfields of Greenland lies Alpha Polaris, an American oil research station. High above, the ion storm of the century is gathering, bringing about a strange intermixing of reality and night terrors. It is up to Rune Knudsen, a Norwegian biologist, to take on a desperate struggle against fear and death, and to face the primordial force lurking beyond the veiled sky.

This Point-and-Click Adventure turned me away on my first run at it with a fairly obtuse puzzle, but it REALLY ramps up after that. The middle is very good, with very strange happening and a cool building mystery. Unfortunately, there are plenty more obtuse puzzles after that, and everything just kind of... ends. Part of it is that it's unclear what's even happening in some of the cutscenes, including the ending. Overall, it's interesting, but maybe a little too short to completely flesh out the story.

Если бы у квестов был возраст, то это типичный квест периода раннего юношества. И вот честно, я не понимаю, как он это юношество пережил.
Несоциализированный, чурающийся всех, вздрагивающий от птицы за окном, неспособный вести диалог, апатичный, прыгающий с двойки на тройку, подросток с задней парты вашего класса.
И ведь он тогда, лохматый, с рубашкой застёгнутой набекрень, следами синих чернил на белом воротнике, вечно развязанном шнурком на ботинке, и всегда почему-то правом, с сущим бардаком в портфеле, в котором нет нужных тетрадей и полно с предметов, которые были ещё на прошлой неделе, он был лидером кружка, в котором состояли и зауч, и учитель информатики, хулиган из соседнего класса, и дядя Толя электрик, и четвёрочница в очках и белыми бантами на голове, и прочая разношёрстная публика. Они собирались вечером, уже после продлёнки, то в классе информатики, то у завуча, то незнамо где. Многие из нас тогда думали, что они все поехали крышей, но это уже после того, как она сначала у них потекла, или что тот чувак с задней парты... эх, много, в общем, мы тогда чего думали. Не боялись, нет, просто предпочитали держатся от них подальше.
Так и эта игра, геймплейно, отсутствует всякая логика. Как продвинутся дальше и почему именно так, вопреки здравому смыслу, вы никогда не узнаете. Каждый раз вам придётся лезть в гайды и каждый раз, прочитав решение, вы будете вспоминать тот школьный кружок, непонятный никому, кроме его обитателей.

Alpha Polaris is a short, but generally solid point-and-click horror adventure, and it's a pity the team didn't make more.
A few puzzles are poorly implemented (triangulation and translation) but there are guides and the overall experience is still good.
Definitely worth a good if you like the genre.

[u][b]Что за игра?[/b][/u]
В общем-то квест обыкновенный, т.е. "понт-анд-клик". Главный герой может на всё подряд посмотреть и что-то об этом подумать, естественно он имеет и довольно бездонную сумку для всякого. Это всякое нужно собирать по локации и комбинировать между собой, а потом применять по делу. Также ещё имеются более-менее многочисленные разговоры, да пригорошня головоломок в комплекте.
Квест... сложный и нет одновременно. С одной стороны локация маленькая и задачи довольно малочисленные и узконаправленные, поэтому если например знать куда жать или идти по гайду, то игровые моменты будут проходится буквально за минуты. Но есть и ряд вещей, что игру "утяжеляют":
- Есть целая пачка загадок, что требуют печатать ответы. И вот тут довольно таки не просто их угадать. Ну, во всяком случае именно в этих загадках я стабильно тупил. Причём, если вам нужна ачивка, вы даже ошибиться не можете ни разу в этой сфере деятельности. Так что я гадал сначала на "бумаге" в стороне, а потом смотрел ответы для подтверждения мыслей.
Но, это наверное можно даже назвать фишкой игры. Да, я знаю, такое встречается в играх, но я вроде с этим столкнулся впервые. Причём игра учитывает перевод игры, т.е. писать ответы надо на русском, что вроде как и должно облегчить жизнь по идее, но со мной не прокатило.
- Головоломка на отслеживание медведя довольно замудрённая.
- В целом, хоть загадки и небольшие, но как-то они вот размазаны по игровой зоне. Ну типа как в играх обычно - ты просто хватаешь всё и также всё применяешь, довольно насыщенно по комнатам например. Или оно как-то последовательно идёт. Здесь же просто выдаётся задача по типу "надо собраться в поездку", в итоге одна вещь лежит в твоей комнате, другая в одном углу станции, третья на противоположном, а четвёртая на обратной стороне строения снаружи. При этом предметов на станции более чем достаточно, но почти все они лишь фон или типа массовки, среди которой есть и искомое что-то. Поэтому подсказки от самого героя или подсветка всего щупаемого дело не сказать, что ускоряют.
Так что как квесту я бы ей выдал нейтральную оценку. Небольшая, в чём-то сложная. не сказать что прям увлекательная - просто обычная.
[u][b]Сюжет[/b][/u]
Станция в Гренландии, работает на корпоратов и ищет нефть. Этим занят весь "экипаж", кроме гг, он изучает медведей, будучи в целом сторонним человеком в нагрузку к тройке работяг местных. Местные к нему нормально относятся (и кто-то даже очень, хе-хе), а вот корпораты его лишь терпят.
[i]Забавно, но игра типа финская что ли. скандинавская короче. А немалый посыл всего происходящего, что для промышленников-бизнесменов прибыль куда важнее всякой зелёной чепушни и любых невероятных исторических открытий для каких-нибудь "социалистических швеций" (буквально цитата). Иронично? Довольно интересная мысль от самых счастливых северных европейцев, видать не всё так гладко в "Датском королевстве".[/i]
Ну короче. Все занимались своими делам, пока не началась магнитная буря, ну и народ на её фоне сразу под откос пошёл: кошмары снятся, видения, паника. В итоге раскопали легенду про вендиго, да уверовали в неё всем скопом. Иииии короче почти все померли в этой резне. Ну, игра же не зря хоррором называется.
Но, не просто так я тут ухмыляюсь. Юмор в том, что игру конечно можно воспринимать прямо, т.е. что пробудился мифический монстр во льдах и всех порубал. Тем более, в конце-концов, мы его даже видели, да и не будут же врать древние легенды?
Но есть забавная деталь - в первый же диалог нам скажут, что такие психозы вполне норма и что они могут стать даже массовыми. И вот реально, абсолютно все игровые ситуации можно объяснить именно так, т.е. что у народа просто крыша улетела. И что на этой почве они друг друга поубивали сами [spoiler]и не только типа Эл один это делал, а Нова или Эйлер завалили Тулли, сам гг на ровном месте завалил Эйлера, дед хотел кокнуть Нову и т.п.[/spoiler] Не знаю, был ли такой замысел у разрабов вообще, ну типа двойного смысла, но мне как-то так видится.
Но в целом, пусть сюжет я конечно хоррором не назову, но как "напряжная" история на вечерний заход - пойдёт. Хватало моментов, что удивляли. Да и в целом, было интересно наблюдать куда всё катится.
[u][b]Как отдельный плюс[/b][/u] - есть озвучка, вполне неплохая. Сторонняя, но от Акеллы.
[u][b]Спорно.[/b][/u] Игра неоднозначной внешности. Типа интерьеры станции выглядят хорошо, а вот персонажи как модельки не очень, а уж как картинки в диалогах совсем бедово (имхо). Ролики вроде многочисленные и бодрые такие, но люди или животные в них близки к визуальному кошмару, увидев того же медведя я лишь смог воскликнуть: [i]"Мои глаза! Мои глазёнки!"[/i]. Плюсом уже всё заметно устарело, что особенно чувствуется в этих же роликах.
Ну и сюда же можно закинуть довольно скромные длительность и масштабы в целом. Это один из самых маленьких квестов, что я играл. На уровне типа "комнаты" от расти лейк, только в ней то был образный миллион загадок.
[u][b]Минусы:[/b][/u]
- Один раз зависла. Причём после загадки и последующей длинной "киношки", пришлось повторять.
- Одна ачивка не даётся на русском языке, надо убирать перевод через сам стим. А с левой ру-озвучкой это ещё сложнее сделать.
[u][b]Итого[/b][/u] - пойдёт. С точки зрения сюжета довольно неплохо было, в любом прочтении. Как квест или внешне - "тускловато". Но, не пожалел бы, даже если бы купил её, а даром совсем хорошо зашло.
Great story, logical puzzles!
Игра представляет из себя самый что ни на есть классический квест на одном из самых моих любимых движков с 2005 года, когда ещё первый компьютер появился - Wintermute Engine.
Радует, что, в отличие от ужасного во всех отношениях квеста The Lost Crown, здесь он используется хорошо, экраны переходов между локациями в разы быстрее.
Это не хоррор совсем. Скорее детектив-триллер почти без напряжённых моментов.
Мы прибываем на Северную станцию, где изучаем повадки полярных медведей.
Уже не помню спустя 5 лет, в чем перепетии сюжета заключались, но это крепкие 6 баллов из 10 для бесплатного продукта. И идеальная игра в копилку, если проходить по гайду на все достижения.
Игра не прошла проверку временем абсолютно.
Унылый и примитивный сюжет а-ля: "Разбудили вендиго и он сводит людей с ума". В жанре указан хоррор, но хоррора по сути и нету, это триллер. Напугать в этой игре могут разве что головоломки своей дебильностью.
Очень короткая, если откинуть затупы с головоломками, проходится за +- час-два.
Некоторые головоломки просто глупые, до которых без прохождения чтобы догадаться, нужно быть разработчиком видимо. Особенно это касается символов, ладно, если бы был выбор из ответов, но ответ нужно написать самому, короче бред полный, сказал я себе. Или с отслеживанием медведицы, где нужно выйти на улицу, встать спиной к гаражу, применить на себя нож, чтобы узнать циферку, а потом сделать РОВНО 15 шагов, чтобы узнать вторую. Или где нужно на листке написать "насосная" в ответ на "где Нова?", чтобы персонаж догадался, что в подвале оказывается есть люк.
Практически все головоломки максимально простые и логичные, кроме тех, что я перечислил выше.
Играть в 2026-ом не рекомендую, есть игры поинтереснее.
Simple point and click mechanics. Super short, and with an incredibly rushed pacing. it would have benefitted greatly to have a slower, more developed plot. The story, as is, is overall pretty bare-bones.
Sex scene just for the reason to have a sex scene. very unnecessary imo.
Dialogue writing varies greatly in quality. Lackluster line delivery from the protagonist, though i thought Al's was great on the other hand. Pretty uncool to not credit the voice actors properly.
Really nothing was overtly scary, i never felt any unease whilst playing. All the "scary" stuff happened in cutscenes, and not when you were actually controlling your character, so i didn't feel the danger or actual threat that i think they wanted to convey. I understand that it's an adventure game, and that you usually experience the horror through story, not gameplay. But I just didn't find the story all that creepy in the end.
You have to fumble around without decent hints for too much of this game. Missing a single clickable thing can result in getting stuck for far too long only to find that odd little hidden thing you missed and curse with disbelief. ALWAYS use the option to reveal all clickable items in a room as it will save you from so much cursing. And double click to avoid eons of slow walking across multiple scenes/rooms. And those passwords you have to type in? How the heck are you supposed to sort out half those answers? Follow the walkthrough guide to the letter and save a TON as it will crash on you on certain transition scenes for no good reason. I finally finished it with too heavy walkthrough guide usage.
An okay-ish point & click adventure that seemed to me a lot older than it's release date, judging by it's gameplay. This one might appeal the most to people that love this genre, but for causal players the slow-moving and sometimes unintuitive way of puzzle solving can get a tiny bit frustrating. I do have to mention that sadly the resolution is fixed on a lower rate, which I didn't mind, but for higher is always better. Still, it's a decent game given the fact that it's a freebie and I had a good time with it.

I really love games with good stories and this did not dissapoint. Enjoyed the horror elements and the little surprise love "event" that took place. I would really recommend this game to anyone who enjoys point-n-click games.

It was okay, I liked aspects of it but I overall wanted it to be a bit more into it's horror, there's some sprinkled but it never quite goes into it too hard. It's free though and not too bad.

Графика, хоть и пиксельная, создает неповторимую гнетущую атмосферу, а звуковое сопровождение держит в напряжении на протяжении всей игры. Головоломки не всегда очевидны, но в основном логичны и связаны с сюжетом. Отличный выбор для любителей неспешных и обволакивающих хоррор-игр, где важны атмосфера и проработка истории. Рекомендую запастись терпением и насладиться погружением в ледяной кошмар.

What a neat setting, fun vibes. Maybe not the most ambitious, and the parser puzzles were tough, but a fun, rather brief point-and-click romp nonetheless.

Запуская игру, я скептически отнёсся к пометке "Horror Adventure Game" и не зря, мне сложно отнести данную игру к жанру хоррора, но в целом перед нами неплохой Point-and-click психологический триллер по мотивам мифа о Вендиго - злом духе, вдохновленном холодом и голодом.
События переносят нас в Гренландию, а непосредственно действие игры разворачивается на разведочном нефтяном объекте (Альфа-Поларис), вдали от цивилизации. Мы играем за Руне, норвежского студента, который приехал на станцию поработать над диссертацией о белых медведях. В ходе проведения исследований, команда станции находит расщелину с нефтью и не только... Вот тут и начинается сама история, которая меня не впечатлила. Подача сюжета идёт накатом, персонажи деревянные, не вызывают никаких эмоций и переживаний. По факту большую часть времени мы бегаем и собираем какой-то мусор по базе и пытаемся продвинуться дальше. Локаций насчитал штук 5, аналогичное количество и персонажей в игре.
Графика без претензий, учитывая год выпуска игры и олдскульную направленность, выдающейся рисовки тут вы не найдете, анимация сырая, видеовставки - боль. Но игру вытягивает один плюс - она бесплатная, хотя некоторое время она и продавалась за символические деньги.
Если вы любитель point-and-click старой школы, то игра вполне может понравится, да и в целом проходится за вечерок!
Интересная игра, где ты представляешь изначально один сюжет, где ты думаешь, что будет обычная скучная бродилка по локациям в игре. Однако, после внедрения во всю суть игры, сюжета, то понимаешь, какие разработчики молодцы. Сюжет реально получился крутым. Так еще стилистика игры довольно выглядит неплохо (имея в виду, что такие игры в 2-5D адвенчурах мне очень заходит). Конечно, имеются парочку багов, но это не так критично для такой игры 2015-го года.

Хороший квест с зимней атмосферой , но все минимально: т.е. игра длится 4 часа и не особо углубляется в тематику арктики , шаманов , полярной станции и т.д.

Дебютный и единственный проект финской студии, который оставляет двойственное чувство. С одной стороны, это атмосферный [strike]хоррор[/strike] - квест с ледяной эстетикой и любопытной мифологией. С другой — игра страдает от типичных болезней малобюджетных проектов: слабая реализация жанра, технические огрехи и спорный геймдизайн. Если вы фанат арктических сеттингов или ностальгируете по классическим 2.5D-адвенчурам 2000-х — стоит попробовать, тем более что сейчас она распространяется бесплатно. Но ждать шедевра не нужно.
It's an old time adventure in the classic style of trial-and-error gameplay. Even for old fashioned graphics, the character designs are well-made, the dialogue is intimate, and the atmosphere (both aesthetic and literal) is an eerie beauty. First time playing, you'll get the creeps- the next time, you can enjoy the sublime ambiance.
It reminds me of the movie "The thing" from 1982. Such a vibe, love it :)))

Nice setting and ambiance despite the small size. Story is interesting eventhough almost no scary creatures or murderous scenes exist, the game successfully makes us feel the horror through it's atmosphere of isolation and a feeling of something dangerous lurking nearby
Spodziewałem się małej, solidnej gry i dostałem dokładnie to. Alpha Polaris to prosta ( zawsze mamy mniej więcej jasno wyznaczone działanie, a zagadki są bardzo logiczne ) i krótka ( do ukończenia w 3 godziny, mi zeszło trochę więcej bo polowałem na 100% acziwków ), ale bardzo solidnie wykonana i pełna niepokojącej atmosfery przygodówka. Tym bardziej zaskakuje że za grą stoi mikro studio, któremu jednak udało się solidnie wykorzystać bardzo niewielki jak sądzę budżet. Naprawdę nie mam tu niczego poważnego do czego mógłbym się tu przyczepić.
Jedyna uwaga - jeśli macie problem z acziwkiem z triangulacją, zmieńcie język gry na angielski, mi pomogło.
Really good, challenging point-and-click puzzle game! I struggled a lot on some of the puzzles, especially the parser puzzles, so I would recommend using a guide, and there are some great ones in the community tab for this game. I really enjoyed playing this game, and finally figuring out those difficult puzzles was so satisfying!

Спасибо за игру! Очень атмосферный квест с элементами хоррора, который погрузил меня в состояние ностальгии. Жуткие секреты, пробудившиеся где-то во льдах, сюжет достаточно распространенный, но история в игре идет своим путем и является самобытной. А ассоциации с другими проектами и фильмами, при этом, только усиливают эффект.
С решением нескольких задач самостоятельно не справилась, так как некоторые механики были для меня в новинку. Игру рекомендую, всем любителям классических квестов!

You are Rune Knudsen, a Norwegian guy in his 20's who is part of a team at an arctic research station in Greenland. The team works for an oil company, and thus are looking for new places to drill. Only problem is, oil is not the only thing they have discovered under the ice. They have accidentally unleashed something else... something which "[i]science[/i]" claims only exists in old Inuit legends.
[u][b]The Reality[/b][/u]
This is a free, Point & Click story game. It has achievements, and they count, despite the game being free. Also, the Store Page claims the game has trading cards, but none dropped for me. This used to be a paid game, so I assume the cards stopped dropping when the game became free. Although hyped as a "[i]horror[/i]" game, it's not scary at all. It's more like a slow-building mystery tale, even though it has some supernatural elements to the story.
The story takes place over the course of 3 days. The puzzles are decent, and some of them have multiple answers, with each answer giving you a different achievement, so you'll have to play through at least twice to get all of the achievements. Still, you should be able to finish the story and get all the achievements in only 5 to 6 hours.
The game plays as usual for this type of game... a lot of running back and forth, and picking up items to use in other locations. Some items are used on, or combined with, yet other items. How to use the items is part of the puzzle-solving. If you can pick it up, it WILL be used at some point. Also, some items you cannot pick up until you perform some other requirement first.
Since the story is so short, there is not any time to really get into the backstories of the characters, so they do somewhat come off as one-dimensional and shallow. However, the story is very well put together, with a solid plot which provides a couple of surprising twists. I recommend you give your brain a workout and pick up this hidden free gem from a small indie group. You've got nothing to lose here.

So it's been over two years since I played this, and I decided to finally leave a review before uninstalling it (both things I thought I'd already done). I haven't revisited it, here is just what I'd said to some friends about it at the time.
You play as Rune Knudsen, a 28 year old environmentalist/science nerd from Norway studying polar bears at an oil company's outpost in the arctic. The gameplay was a little weak, I found the complete lack of guidance frustrating to the point where I started following a walkthrough very early on to 100% it in one playthrough (3.7 hours according to steam) and the graphics are a little rough for its original release date, especially the cutscenes, but otherwise it was really good.
Alright, that's it. I see it's free now, I really don't remember it being a free game so unless I'm misremembering that's new. It is absolutely worth the time to play if you don't mind using a guide, and I would happily recommend this game even if there was a price tag attached.

Alpha Polaris has a familiar setting, similar to the movie The Thing and it plays well. Characters are interesting and voiced well, the game is not too long and the puzzles are okay-ish. Some a bit too cryptic for my taste which took the pacing out of the game. A solid 8.
Начал играть посмотрев очень положительный рейтинг, но не читав обзоры. А зря. У меня нет претензий к графике и анимациями. Я даже не буду придираться к местами странному взаимодействию с предметами. Но вот загадки это что то не адекватное. Значительную их часть практически не возможно решить без гайдов. Особенно на русском языке. И главное все это отмечают, но такие: "Загадки не логичные и не решаемые, но вот тебе положительная рецензия". Зачем? Зачем вы накручиваете этому поделию рейтинг? Потому что игра бесплатная? Так и фиг с ним. Не ценой определяется хорошая игра или плохая. Играть можно, но только с гайдами. Но какой тогда смысл от такой игры? Не рекомендую. Я конечно попробую добить игру, но лучше бы и не начинал.
A decent point and click game, with a great story. The puzzles got a bit too much for me, about half-way through.
But it is a no-cost game and it has Steam trading cards, so why not add it to your library?

This free point-and-click adventure game was a bit of surprise! While, on the whole, the puzzles suffer from a little bit of moon logic and the ending isn't super great, the story and 2d character art are pretty dang good for an indie team's first outing. Pick this one up if you want to kill a few hours and don't mind a slower-paced horror experience.
Really good mythological horror for fans of a good storyline and point-and-click games – and it's free! Highly recommended!:)

Игра, которую я в детстве не осилил, ибо интернет был очень медленный в те времена, и дошел лишь до середины на моменте с костями. Теперь же удалось пройти полностью, и она вполне себе хороша. holy cow this is bad
overall i thought the game was decent enough though it is very short. i like anything to do with mythology and this horror is based in that. gameplay wise its your typical point and click puzzle type. a 6/10 for me.
The game doesn't get sacary until the final third of the game, not to mention some puzzles are abit obtuse, but considerin its a free game, i guess i can't complaing.
Play it with a guide at hand and you should be fine.
This is a nice little game. Point and click combine the bread knife with butter and attach it to the reciprocating saw kind of games always frustrate you with what the developers think you should be able to piece together in your mind for what comes next. AP is a little like that. You have a tranq gun and need to inject antibiotics into the enraged Polar bear...dont shoot the knockout dart into the bear, put the antibiotic syringe and needle on a six foot pole you sawed the flag off the top of and lance the bear from a distance! Exactlly what any sane person with a sick polar bear would do...right? Well, its not that bad, just a little odd in that way. But my wife and I liked this game so far. Its a free game and sometimes that can be a bad sign but not this one! AP is a good game and there are some shocking things in it to scare a few people out there. Just remember its isn't a POV PVP shooter and you'll be fine. There was some heart and hard work put into this game and it deserves some respect for that alone.
Чудова гра - так і не зрозумів, чому вона безкоштовна. Гострий сюжет, гарні тексти та музика. Також мені дуже близька тема наукового пошуку та боротьби за природу. З недоліків: замале розширення, яке підтримується грою, довелося ставити AeroZoom утілиту. Також багато до чого я б у житті не додумався, без walkthrough точно б не пройшов. Шкода, що нема української локалізації. В цілому, дуже радий, що пройшов цю гру, випав з життя на пару вечорів, можна сказати. Дякую розробникам!

Квест мне понравился, прикольный. НО! Есть загадки которые вообще не понятно как решить без руководства. [spoiler] Одна триангуляция медведя [/spoiler] сколько времени съела пока я не сдался и не посмотрел что нужно делать. А эти задачки где нужно [spoiler] вводить самим расшифровку рисунков [/spoiler] тоже безумие какое-то которое на русском еще и неправильно переведено оказывается. Игра короткая, а сюжет бредовый, но не могу не отметить что присутствует своя атмосфера отдаленной полярной станции. Не сказал бы что похоже на "Нечто" как многие пишут, но интерес такой антураж пробуждает.
В итоге остались приятные впечатления от игры, но сложные моменты вымотали нервы. Кому-то такие хардкорные квесты нравятся - им советую. 7/10
(И советую играть на английском языке чтобы понять правильно все загадки и открыть все достижения, некоторые на других языках забагованные)
An intriguing horror game where we get to understand that as mankind continuously explores and digs deeper into parts unknown, that some things are best left hidden.
The graphics and story are quite good, it doesn't seem to make much of a difference which options you choose during conversations, some have multiple options. Some of those options will reveal further layers of the unwinding story, some won't.

For a free point&click game is rather good I most say, but IMO is hardly a "horror" game, because is very light on that aspect to my taste.
There's also to much backtracking and the character doesn't run, fortunately you can double click on doors and it will teleport the character to them, you can also skip dialogues, what is always nice.
Some puzzles have more than one solution and you get different achievements for solving them each different way (for those that care about achievements... I don't) also to me at lest, some of the puzzles were rather difficult.
Anyway it is free, so play it.

Awesome free horror game.
The plot is good, the characters are likable, the puzzles are fine but somewhat challenging at times.
Whole game reminds me of "The Thing" from 1982. Great movie and you can clearly see the inspiration here.
Overall 8.5/10 imo. Simple yet effective (and first of all, FREE) horror game.

Very old school. Ugly early 2004 style graphics, predictable story, some puzzles feel quite random. Manual input to some of the puzzles.
You have to be a fan of old timey point'n'click adventure games to appreciate this. Nothing outstanding but if you already played similar games back in the day you might enjoy this.
Has a bargain bin quality to it but also a bit of charm.
Alpha Polaris is a point-and-click adventure game where a group of people on a remote oil research station experience maddening dreams about an ancient evil. It's kinda Lovecraftian but leans a lot more to Inuit folklore. The Steam release has bigger resolution, English voice acting, as well as achievements. Trading cards no longer drop due to the game being free now.
Gameplay-wise it plays almost like any other point-and-click game, with the unique addition of parser puzzles. In these ones, you'll have to type the solution. It's not like a multiple choice, you can type anything, so without a guide these might be a bit confusing. You should investigate the area to guess what the solution is. As for the normal puzzles, they are all very logical and makes sense, no moon logic involved.
I really like the atmosphere and slow-burn horror, but in my opinion this game could use more areas as the ones available are usually repeating. Sure it makes sense to not travel too much when you're in the Arctic, but more area especially surrounding the ancient evil would be better. And as I said above, Alpha Polaris used to be paid, but since it's free now sadly due to the closure of the studio, you should give their game a try.

Die Rätsel des Point & Click Adventures sind teilweise wirklich knackig und mit viel Trial & Error verbunden was gut, aber auch schlecht sein kann. persönlich dauert es mir bei P&C immer zu lange, bis sich wirklich was spannendes ergibt und frustriere daran was ich den alles machen könnte. Zum Entspannen am Feierabend super, nur zum streamen vielleicht nicht empfehlenswert. Holt es euch, es ist kostenlos und an sich wirklich gut, aber man muss wirklich sein Hirn anstrengen und darf auch nciht zu viel Horror erwarten. Mein einziges Manko: Der horror kickt nicht wirklich und es ist etwas "zu" kompliziert.

I fully understand how this game might sound appealing, it did to me as well! The only issue is that it feels extremely rushed, which is understandable coming from an indie studio, but it just doesn't hit the spot in this case.
It feels this game was based off of both 'The Thing' and 'Beneath the mountains of madness', which are both amazing pieces of media to pull inspiration from and the buildup was done quite well! The ending however left me not caring about anyone in the game or the actual outcome of the game :(
Definitely give it a go, but don't expect to be blown away!

This game was extremely fun to play through, the story was incredible and the atmosphere was perfectly tense through out it all. the only problem i have with this game is that most of the puzzles made no sense and were very cryptic, which caused me to have to use a guide multiple times. 8/10 would recommend.

This is actually a great game. I enjoyed myself a lot with it. Though if you're like me who isn't smart enough to solve some of the puzzles in the game to help advance the story then you may need a walk through like I did. But overall, I really like this game. Especially since it's my first ever point and click adventure type game so that was a fun experience.
Alpha Polaris is a low-key, atmospheric horror game with a unique setting and story. I was actually surprised to find out it’s free, given how much effort clearly went into the mood and storytelling.
The game takes place in an isolated Arctic research station, where you play as a biologist named Rune. He’s there to study polar bears, but things start getting strange as the team begins to uncover old myths and strange symbols. The setting feels eerie and remote, which adds a nice sense of isolation that suits the horror vibe. There’s a gradual tension that builds up, so it keeps you on edge without relying on big jump scares or gore. The horror here is more psychological, which works well with the slow, creeping pace of the story.
Visually, it’s fairly simple but still effective. The graphics might feel a bit dated, but the lighting and sound design do a good job at keeping you immersed. The puzzles are pretty well integrated, too. They make sense in the context of the story and don’t feel like random tasks thrown in to fill time. They’re not too challenging, but they keep you engaged.
The story touches on Inuit mythology, which gives it a unique angle compared to a lot of horror games out there. It’s not a very long game—about 4-5 hours—but it tells a complete, satisfying story in that time. For a free game, it’s definitely worth checking out if you enjoy slower-paced horror that focuses more on atmosphere and mystery than on fast action.
Alpha Polaris was honestly quite a fun short game! I really enjoyed all the characters and the puzzles were mostly fun. (Nova is Bae!) My only really issues are where certain characters are after cutscenes (Where could they be?!) and that the ending kind of jumped the shark. Oh yeah, this is not really horror as much as it is a thriller! Please play this game if it looks interesting to you!

Lo consiglio solo perché è gratuito.
POSITIVO: Graficamente semplice, tendenzialmente retrò, e quindi adatto a tutti i PC.
NEGATIVO: La trama è un po' lenta e noiosa, troppe azioni per fare pochi progressi, e mi sono stufato, ho guardato un walkthrough ed ho visto che era ancora più noioso di quanto pensassi.
