Lovely little VR animated short! It was made for older VR hardware, so the is not visually top notch anymore, but it is not really a problem. Too bad the resolution can't be increased (at least as far as I can tell). Very enjoyable!
Loverly emotive vr movie, unfortunatly it hasn't aged well. On my Pimax Super the game requires my head to be 10cm from the objects to appear sharp, the game appears to intentionally blur the objects further away. Possibly designed for low resolution headsets. It wound be nice if this could be fixed. If you have a basic low rez setup, I fully recommend it.

"Allumette" is not a game. Games contain meaningful gamelike interaction and game loops, which are absent in this "art experience".
Instead of being a game, "Allumette" is a software application that presents a poorly made VR Youtube video.
This is a poorly done Youtube video ripping off themes from Hans Christian Anderson. Youtube videos from failed filmmakers are not games.
We get this non-game shovelware on Steam whenever your usual film school dropout can't get anyone to watch their stuff on Youtube so they turn to Steam Direct to try get their art published somewhere so they can finally dream of moving out of their parents basement.
For those unfamiliar with what actually makes something a game, a "game loop" describes the interaction and feedback a gamer has when playing a game.
Tetris, for example, has a game loop where a random block appears, the gamer interacts with the block to position it, and then the game decides if that finishes a row or not, increases the players score if any rows were completed, then gives the gamer another block to position. Counter-Strike has a game loop where a player seeks another player, tests their skill against that player by shooting them or being shot, the computer rewards the player if they win, and then if the player survives, they repeat that loop.
There's no loop here, no true interactive feedback. It simply is not a game, it cannot be "played".
This has misleadingly been launched in the "Games" section of Steam instead of the "Software" section. This is a common mistake for developers who are new to Steam, or don't understand the difference between games and software which isn't a game. It seems this software published incorrectly as a game is simply lack of experience/knowledge of the correct process.
Here's a link for the process to publish non-game software/non-interactive "art experiences" on Steam:
Steam Developer Help With Software Publishing
It's unfortunate this process was not known about/followed, resulting in a non-game "art experience" being published in the wrong place.
Publishing things which aren't games on Steam in the Games section as games is misleading to gamers and somewhat harmful, because it pollutes the Steam marketplace and takes away visibility and market exposure for genuine game developers who do the right thing and make games for gamers.
There are no gameplay loops in this rejected Youtube video, no "gameplay", no meaningful game like interaction. As such, this has no merit as a video game for gamers, and so I cannot recommend this non-game as a game to gamers.
Still one of the best things in VR
Allumette is a visually enchanting 20-minute VR short film, loosely inspired by Hans Christian Andersen’s The Little Match Girl. Set in a dreamy city in the clouds, it follows a young girl and her mother as they sell magical matches from a flying ship. With no spoken dialogue, the story unfolds through expressive animation and immersive world-building. With no spoken dialogue, the story unfolds through expressive animation and immersive world-building. Its gentle pacing enhances the experience, allowing the stunning visuals and heartfelt themes to shine, making Allumette a truly beautiful and poignant journey.

The story of a young female serial killer, abandoned, cold and alone on the streets of a fascist Italian city floating in the clouds, looking for her next kill. You experience her slow descent into madness and blood thirsty killing in flashbacks telling the story of her mother's struggle to find market fit for their latest invention: LSD on the end of a stick. Her mother resorts to propositioning the local overzealous OSHA inspector, after he tries to fine and shutdown her business for having no safety railing capable of stopping falls over 4 feet. You will watch as our intrepid young character struggles, and finally cracks, with the burden of accidentally murdering her single parent mother with her shoddy mechanic skills. Faced with the choice of saving her mother, or saving the remaining LSD, her drug addiction makes her choice for her. The film ends as she viciously murders a helpless hobo, after giving him LSD, and dumping his body overboard to fall among the clouds. Her killing and LSD addiction is now the only way she can feel close to her mother, to imagine herself in her arms again. Fade to black.
None of the above was true, It's just the twisted alternate story my mind made up while I was bored watching this thing. This is a pretty old and boring animated short film. This is obviously a passion project for a small group of people, so I feel bad ragging on it too badly. However, In my opinion, it is not really worth the time to watch. Novel at the time it was made, it really is showing it's age, and I just don't think it ever really took advantage of what the VR medium can offer, even at the time it was made.
About 18 minutes long, it hijacked my PSVR2 headset with some sort of external 3D Windows Media device player, with no ability to change the scaling, aliasing, graphics, etc, and no way to get back to steam VR without Keyboard and Mouse. The result is the entire thing is ran at a super low resolution, with no super sampling or anti aliasing present after it is blown up to the high resolution of the OLED display on the PSVR2. It looks terrible, there is no real engagement or wow factor for this being in VR, and the film is kind of schmaltzy, slow, and boring. The intro with the windows/silhouettes is kind of cool, It has nice music and animation, but no voice acting, real characters, or interesting plot to speak of. The entire thing never changes the viewer's camera angle, focal point, beyond your own limited head movement, so it can't frame the scenes and convey emotion, urgency, etc. like a director and editor would do in traditional film media. It just kind plays out like a small diorama in front of you, where you are a hovering, bored, omniscient, presence. If anything it really made me think "is this the boredom god feels when he watches tragedy play out and he is unable to intervene?", so i guess that was something.
I am really surprised it even ran at all.
I think it took me longer to write this, than it did to watch it.
Magnificient.
Short, sweet, and strange. Low resolution though, but what can you expect from a 7+ year old game? Plus it's free! It's worth your time for sure.
No Sound...
I really enjoyed this. A wonderful VR experience. Very sad story though :(
I hope the devs make more of these stories.
Incredibly short, but also worth it.
Very fun, cute but short animation. Perfect to introduce your family members to VR!
good sense in the game, makes me impressed
The story was rather boring. Even though the game is super short, they managed to drag it out much more than necessary. Characters are having fake dialogue for a long time, take forever to walk, etc. I felt like nothing was happening more than half of the time.
An emotional little VR film.

No gameplay, but it's free so if you have 20mn to spare, go for it.
Beautiful visuals, boring and confusing story
I played this with a friend watching. And to be honest, while it's not a terrible experience by any means, I don't think it's very good.
The intro was honestly the biggest highlight for me. The windows slowly lighting up, with that cool perspective trick where you could see the silhouettes moving as you move your head. That was clever and honestly quite pretty.
But beyond that, I didn't find myself enjoying much of it. Firstly, the movie has this sort of "low frame claymation" style to it, which is very jarring in VR; it almost seems like the game is lagging, and it doesn't look good.
The story is nothing to write home about. While I liked the moral and the payoff, the story around the message they were trying to show is messy at best, and the ending feels very rushed. Both my friend and I were left like "wait... that's it?" and that's honestly a shame.
Again, not a bad game, but I wouldn't say it's good either. I would say it's somewhat mediocre. It has some good visuals, some nice music, and that's about it. If you have 15 minutes, I guess it's worth your time.
I would give it a
4/10
This movie proves to me that VR can stretch far beyond games. Storytelling through VR is going to be amazing! This movie is just a glimpse to how it will be!
Get it while it's free! Get it while it costs! It doesn't matter! Just get it!
would be magical
sadly lags and blurry

Enjoyed it.

Have used the Allumette story with the Pico 4.
You only need the headset and you don't need the controllers at all.
You come into the menu and think where is the Start button.
He starts the story when you look at Allumette lettering and the lettering becomes more and more yellow then he starts the story.
The story is great with the backgrounds, characters, etc. super set and great to watch the story to the end with the full credits, it took about 38 minutes.
If you are afraid of heights, you are in the air, I would advise against taking a chair or a stool,
Since it's also free, you can enjoy the story with the VR glasses.
Definitely worth it.
nichts besonderes.Ich fand es langweilig.
Doesn't work correctly on valve index
A pretty and moving short "movie" experience. Just stand up and watch it - it's worth your time. :)
This is a well done little short, like most of the rest of the former Google shorts you can now watch through Steam. I don't know that they all deserve to be separate programs, and there is minimal interaction of course, but the story is well told (if somewhat basic) and the visuals are truly stunning (IMO). If you like animated shorts, this is a treat.
cool story , now if gaming could only get as imaginative as this ..!!!
I hope to see more movies like this in the near future, maybe even new series, let make steam the next VR netflix
What an amazing commentary on the migratory habits of jelly fish. I never thought there was such an extreme impact on our geo-political climate!! Amazingly written with such a clear story. While being a supportive person to the LGBTQ+ communities, I do think that was a little much to cram in there. But I cried for 72 hours without stopping; So who am I to comment negatively on that?
10/10 - I ate a squirrel for dinner and Joe Biden did nothing wrong.
beautiful short animate scene, interesting experience
A short story filled with love and compassion.
The art and animations are really good, adorable, and feels like a storybook come to life. The sound track was absolutely amazing as well.
Although, the story was clever but I don't think I was able to appreciate it as others. Worth checking out.
WHY DID NOBODY LOOK UP?!
8/10
Beautiful and emotional short film about the girl with the matchsticks.
Unfortunately no options for graphics or anything else.
somewhat washed out graphics, but for free.
Played on HTV Vive Pro/WIreless/Vive Wands/RTX2060Super.
This is a very beatiful vr story, it's about 15-20 minutes.
I really love the graphics.
Sadly it seems it hasn't been updated for newer higher resolution headsets, as everything is very fuzzy, except when you are really close up. It's like they deliberately have some out of focus setting when you are at regular viewing distances of the scene. And that's a real shame. They should update it or at least make it optional/user preference. This animation really deserves the sharpness all around, not only at close distance, you really have to lean into the animation to see everything sharp.
As it's free, you really should check it out, it really is a beautiful animation.
bien mais très court
3D Side by side анимация https://youtu.be/x3EPCs8anFI
Love it.
Very nice story to watch in VR
Short little animation. Quite okay-ish for 2016.
Low res, aesthetically unappealing, and boring.
An immersive vignette-- heart-rending, and well worth the download.
e.e
Beautiful and sad.
Just some technical issues on my Index due to its age. It has a low fixed resolution and you cannot change the centre.
I got flashbanged 3 seperate times by torch girl, she deserved what happened to her. 5/10

I appreciate this for what it is. It's fairly old, came out when VR was still very new and these types of experiences were few and far between.
It's free so the most you have to lose is 10-20 minutes of you time.
But if I'm being honest, this one didn't do it for me. I like the more cinematic style VR experiences but the animation in this one made me feel like I was chugging along at a bad FPS. I wanted to like it I just couldn't help but be distracted. I ended up not finished the whole movie.
In my opinion your time is better spent with other experiences.
small movie
done in unreal engine
arround 20 mins
liked it
Very touching , cute and beautiful short story (about 20 minutes) about a little girl and her mum.
This video shows what VR can bring to the movie table. Great watch! I loved the birds' eye perspective.
While I can appreciate the effort put into this free VR experience, I didn’t care much for it. I felt that the story wasn’t very captivating and could have been condensed down to 5 minutes or less. The jerky visuals didn’t help either; stop frame type of animation isn’t a great fit for VR.
so amazing story make me cry 9.5/10
Succinct, well-made, emotional, and well made ending.
Very cool concept, would love to see more short films for vr!
Beautiful. Haunting. Sad. A tale about the love of family and sacrifice, with really interesting scenery and well worth the time to sit down and watch.
I've played this game a few times and I still can't quite decide whether or not it's a great game. It's definitely one of those games which you can play once but after that it's very uncertain.
Lovely, emotional, short, and free. Would love to see more VR movies.
This is very touching and heartwarming story that is even better in VR! Short stories/films in VR is such an excellent idea and adds a whole new perspective to the content. Being able to walk around and get closer to the action really adds to the experience. It is short, only about 20mins, but it's a great experience for people who are new to VR. I played this on Quest 2 via AirLink. Hats off to the creative team! It being free makes it even better.
It's pretty meh TBH.
Cool animated short. VR adds another dimension to the viewing experience since the player can roam around while the story goes on. The story itself wasn't anything special in my opinion. Not bad experience overall though. 3.5/5.
mignon comme tout mais triste
Follow "First Person Exploration and Puzzle Games" for more games like this!
A free animated VR movie that takes about 20 minutes to watch.
There are no user interactions, so it's literally just a movie you watch in 3D. The animations are gorgeous, but unfortunately there's not much else to say about it. It's a cute art project, but I'm not sure that makes it worth my time.
10 minutes in, the sound suddenly cut out for me. There's no way to fast-forward, so I ended up having to watch the last half on Youtube. It ends as you'd expect.
This is a great tech demo of what VR might one day be used to achieve. But as a movie, it's not really something worth watching.
Like one of these Pixar short films... but as a great VR experience. Enjoyed it very much :)
Wizualnie i muzycznie równie wspaniała, świetne efekty 3d VR.
Masterpiece, must check out
A very interesting way to tell a story, a bit like a stop motion theater show, I thoroughly enjoyed the experiance!
Vale tirar 15 minutos pra ver :)
A+
Awful, seriously don't play this. No voice acting so everything is off of grunts. No real plot. Like 15 fps animation. Dragged out, could have been condensed into less than 5 minutes. "Sad" my left nut. The ending was garbage.
Short & sweet.
Not a waste of time, but not extraordinary.
If you like any of the Henry Selick animations, that's what this reminds me of.
Kostenloser kleiner VR Film.
The saddest little VR mini movie I have yet seen. It's still worth watching, highly recommended, but bring your hankie and a washable face cushion :-)
Most impressive aspect was that internal modelling of e.g. the flying ship was complete. If you stick your face into the ship you can see a fully-realised interior. Also, the detail/resolution increases with proximity. If you put your face really close to the characters, very fine additional detail emerges (good work devs!); but distant objects are rendered a bit fuzzy which probably saves on GPU cycles.
It's a rather lovely, melancholy little tale of generosity, loss, loneliness and loyalty. Take the few minutes to experience it -- it suggests new worlds for storytelling. I'm imagining retellings of Andersen's fairy tales (or Grimm's!) in this amazing medium. The level of detail is limited only by the developer's willingness and the hardware.
It is not supported without VR
