Fun 3D collectathon with neat environments and wacky character designs. A great play if you are a fan of the genre but ultimately the game is missing some polish. A lot of the movement tech feels janky which on its own is not the worst but combo that with some messed up geometry and you have a recipe for some very frustrating late stages. There were also some parts which controlled completely differently from the rest of the game and I feel like they should have been cut. They were not fun to control and the already bad camera behaved even worse in those sections.

In the end I enjoyed my time playing the game but I don't really see any reason to come back to it. If the game had been given a little more time to cook it probably would have been more endearing.

In the past when there was a "platforme" section in a driving game is was a hard quit most of the time.
All changed since this small bright professionally driven vehicle reved its engine and made "vroom" !
A Glorious 10, or a 9 for those who hate fun. :3 Nothing else.

This game has many high highs and a couple really low lows nearing the end of the game. When the gameplay consists of driving around open worlds, smashing into things, collecting stuff and using speed to shoot off of ramps it's an absolute blast. It helps that the visuals and music are just wonderful as well.

However, halfway through the game teaches you that you can cancel your spin boost to gain a bit of extra height, which acts as a pseudo jump of sorts. There's nothing wrong with this inherently because it gives the player some extra control, but later levels start expecting you to use this pseudo jump more and more, often times with agonizingly slow moving platforms. The last couple of levels will expect you to use it constantly and it kills the entire pace of the game. Despite being advertised as "a platformer without a jump button" the later levels start acting like the game is a platformer with a jump button, except inputting the jump requires constantly double tapping your spin instead of just... pressing jump. It feels terrible especially since you often want to wait for the car to bounce off the ground so that the spin is recharged.

Also there's a couple segments where the game switches to a top down view and the controls change completely, I'm not sure why these parts were included because the gameplay is just not anywhere as fun as just the standard gameplay. It doesn't help that whenever the camera changes during these segments they just completely lock your inputs for a bit which feels awful.

Anyways that was a lot of complaining but these gripes are ultimately a minority of the game, it's still damn good and I had a great time overall.

this game is fun. I happen to have just beaten the game and had a blast playing it and recommend it to anyone who wishes to play a different take on collectathons! Just be weary of some jank when boosting off of ramps as sometimes you will go FLYING sky high but if you try it again you might just way lower than expected.

Honestly, this was very fun to play. The moment I saw the trailer I just knew it was gonna be a good game, absolute masterpiece! Of course there were some tough moments, but when you learn all possible mechanics and movements of the taxi it becomes much easier and you'll be able to reach high and far places

It’s kind of depressing that a tightly designed modern collectathon 3D platformer that both respects the player’s time and focuses solely on pure platforming is such a breath of fresh air to me. But that’s what happens when you take a page from the gold standard of the Spyro trilogy's collectathon approach of having a variety of bite-sized, open-ended levels that offer plenty of creative level themes and this frantic pacing that makes the flow of collecting green gears (I want to kiss the dev on the head for letting me fast forward the animation when collecting a green gear) and coins so addictive. That’s also due to the fact that you're controlling a taxi vehicle that can speed up, brake, dash forward, and even flip by double-tapping the dash button.

It's a simple moveset with no traditional jump button, making it easy to pick up but hard to master, which this game shockingly pushes you to the edge in order to obtain all the green gears, and especially golden bunnies. This is what I craved in Super Mario Odyssey with that game’s incredible moveset, but it rather wanted to give you 25-50 more Among Us-tier objectives instead. My only notable complaint in that regard is that the super boost momentum can feel inconsistent at times, especially when trying to launch yourself from slopes, but the overall speed and momentum are still solid aside from that occasional hiccup.

Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom is a game where what you see is what you get, but what I got out of it personally is a tightly designed throwback title that feels like a platforming and collectathon paradise while being effectively simple and having frantic pacing like the Spyro trilogy. It won’t be for everyone, but if this sounds right up your alley, I very strongly recommend it! I do feel a bit bummed that Cloverpit overshadows this game, but I am happy that this talented dev has found the success they truly deserve.

A silly platformer that has a great start, but completely fumbles the late game.

Its a wacky driving platformer where you control a little taxi and your only power is to boost forward.
Visually, its very bright and flashy, with crazy characters everywhere and wacky music.

The platforming is mostly straightforward, giving you a lot of experimenting room to find new routes by boosting off ramps or exploiting the cancel mechanics.
Your only power is to boost forward or to cancel the boost. When you cancel, you do a little jump or a backflip which you can use to reach platforms or set yourself higher for a second boost.
While this is very useful, its also unpredictable, because the second boost sometimes has a bigger cooldown.

A lot of the movement of the game is based on boosting off ramps, but its really random. Sometimes the physics engine will bless you with a good jump, sometimes you will drive off it in slow motion, as if you hit an invisible wall.

While the first levels are fun and full of nooks to explore, the later levels become a chore and incredibly frustrating.
Two of the final levels use a completely different movement system, using the analog to move with a topdown perspective, while blocking your jumps.
One of the levels is a stealth segment in a maze, the other is a obstable course in a pitch black room with limited vision. They still expect you to do precise platforming, without being able to see, jump or drive on steady ground, as the pipes make you slip.
The challenge becomes mostly timers and instakills. One level has an enemy that constantly attacks you, causing an instadeath if it as much as grazes you.

After you finish the game, you can unlock special challenge levels, but these are nothing aside "kaizo" type levels where you need to know and exploit every single quirk the game has to finish them.

Overall, it has its charms and an interesting platforming system, but the later levels just soured the experience.

Вайбовый визуал и атмосфера (особенно коричнеговая страна)
ГЕЙмплей настолько четенький что жопа взрывается. Но есть ли разобраться в азах ГЕЙмплея то шедевры Миядзаки покажутся казуальщиной агуша гейминга.
Можно порвать дупу (Донки)Кинг-Конгу, ну разве это не праздник для фэнов нинтенда?

Я скажу одно, это просто 10 из 10, шедевр под кольянчик, на каком же уровне режиссура, взрывы, песочница, есть даже бамблби, законченная история нижнего интернета, все от фанатов для фанатов.

Just got this game from "The Game Club" - game of the month!
And OMG! This hits so hard haha!

Imagine Crazy Taxy (very light connection to that game since you don't really need to drive people around that much or at all) and Mario Galaxy had a baby...

This game is a colectathon in all the right ways!

I love finding Gears and solving the platforming puzzles.

The main core mechanic of dashing is so satisfying and you can technically jump in the game... Yea, its a platformer without actually jumping. Kind of novel as an idea and it had me hooked!

I don't always beat the games of the month but did for this one, put like 10 hours into this so far and feel like I will try my best to collect all the rabbits, gears, and coins!

Overall the game is super polished! There is so much effort in the controls being responsive, the level design being interesting, and the story being lighthearted and funny.

To me its a 10/10 kind of game.

An indie dev doing something new, with a great art style, and I look forward to what else they cook up with their next game!

Un jeu de plateformes déjanté et super original (pas de bouton de saut c'est très rare pour un plateformer) avec une ambiance de folie.
Les musiques et le gameplay vont super bien ensemble fluidifiant l'expérience de jeu.
La maniabilité prend un peu de temps a être maîtrisée mais une fois que c'est le cas, les déplacements sont un pur bonheur. Les sensations de jeu sont le plus gros atout de cette charmante expérience.

This was the featured game of TheGameClub.com for February.

The games we'd played up until this point were very narrative heavy, so having this one was such a departure, and so much fun!!

Many of us finished the game and 100% completed it, even though the premesis is simple, the controls are that typical - easy to grasp, difficult to master - which makes progression so satisfying.

Loads of character, humor, colorful levels and enemies, this was fun from start to finish.

It took a second to get used to the controls, but when it clicks, Yellow Taxi really does go vroom. It has more content than I expected at it's price point. It runs great on the Steam Deck as well. You can just pick it up, play for a while, and then continue with what you were doing.

Great, "simple", 3D platformer.

You only have a couple of "moves" and need to use your momentum and ramps to platform your way through and collect all the gears. At its bones,it's quite a simple game, but the end levels can be quite difficult. Took me about 16 Hours to 100% with no guides.

Extremely good game. From start to finish I was having fun and there was always something to do. I enjoy not being preached to in a video game for once as well.

The only issue I'd say is that there's too many time trial missions toward the end of the game that don't really serve much purpose beyond artificial difficulty which hampers how much you can really explore in the game. Honestly there should just be an option to disable time trials because the game is most fun when you're throwing yourself off of things in fun ways, which resets your time.

What a disappointment. Its novel, being a collectathon without a jump button. It can be fun at times using the boost and stall "jump" ability. At times the jump and be finnicky, and for some reason backflip makes you go higher, which can be annoying. Theres a lot of different worlds, but its annoying because you have secret levels in those worlds that also give you collectibles, but it can be hard to find them and know what gives you real or fake gears. Also you unlock 2 total upgrades in like 5 hrs, one of them is 90% into the game, so its a bit disappointing.

All of this I have mentioned in itself isn't a MAJOR issue, but the late game falls off a cliff. Every level you unlock takes around 10-15 new gears which you will get from the new level and any ones in missed in old levels. This is until the FINAL level, which suddenly required 50 (yes you read that right) more gears in order to unlock. Why it would require around 3.5x the amount of normal gear progression makes no sense, except for trying to force grinding and extend playtime by having to replay levels to try and get almost every gear. If you could teleport to each level from the map this could maybe be tolerable, but all you can do is teleport to the hub world then you have to drive around the long level to get to each level to then get to each secret area that comes off that level to then get more gears, and do this around 5-10x. This means watching walkthroughs so you dont miss a secret level and don't miss all the hidden gears. I've played most major ps1-ps2 collectathons and none are this poorly designed to grind. Why you need all these secret levels off each main level that are required to progress, and why you need 130 gears just to get the final level is brainless game design. I decided to walk away because this is taking all the fun out of these type of games and life is too short to spend grinding wayyyyyy too many collectibles just for the sake of it. 5.5/10.

God this game is absolutely phenomenal and sets a new benchmark for how to make new age unique PURELY movement based 3d platformers with an emphasis on polished and satisfying controls holy moly is this game close to if not entirely perfect.

Do note however it can take a bit to get used to the unconventional 3d platformer controls however once you get it down it will not be slowing you down. So much content with epic surreal visuals, plenty of refrences to memes,movies and games. Banging soundtrack on top.

The absolute only gripe i have with this game is purely nitpicking and is a prefrence rather than a complaint. I did not enjoy the maps that were timed at all and wish they had an option to turn the timer off as it kind of rushes you to the point where you cant slow down and apreciate all the details that are lovingly put into each map.

100% worth every cent youll pay for this, if you like 3D platformers akin to mario 64, do not hesitate you will not regret it.

As with any game, you have to enjoy the genre therein, but IF you are craving a Mario-style 3D platformer collectathon game, then this is an awesome game. It has excellent art design and music, evoking nostalgic feelings of Mario, Sonic Adventure, and even Toy Story. Great for PC players looking for those classic vibes without wanting to shell out the cash for Nintendo premium games and hardware.

This game’s erratic visuals make it a stand out in the 3D platformer genre, but other than that it’s meh. The humor from the characters isn’t going to leave anyone wheezing, and in a game that loves going all out with the character designs, it’s a bit dissapointing.

GAMEPLAY
The collectible gears in this game are fun to find, but not to collect. Some of them make you wonder how the testers even got them in the first place. I would have replaced some of the hard to reach gears with ones that require you to win races. I mean, you are a car.

Il faut s'habituer à un aspect visuel agressif qui n'est pas atténué par la frénésie du titre qui nous impose un timer dans certains stages, mais une fois que c'est fait : quel plaisir ! Yellow Taxi goes Vroom est un platformer qui aurait pu s'arrêter à son concept original (on y joue une voiture et donc les sauts passent par le fait de booster sur des rampes) et proposer une petite aventure amusante. Mais non, il propose un gameplay novateur et va complètement au bout de sa proposition.

On est donc face à un collectathon (d'ailleurs plus proche d'un Mario 3D que d'un Sonic, malgré certaines textures qui évoquent ce dernier) très dense et généreux. Chaque stage est relativement ouvert et nous fait donc principalement récupérer des rouages (collectible nécessaire au déblocage des niveaux suivants) en alternant aisément entre défis de rapidité, d'agilité et d'exploration. Extrêmement plaisant et bien pensé, le level design est admirable et mon seul reproche sur l'aventure concerne l'écriture catastrophique (mais heureusement au second plan).

Non seulement, le jeu est donc varié, mais il est aussi sacrément corsé pour qui cherche le 100%. Voir un rouage au loin et comprendre la succession de sauts très précis pour l'atteindre est un moment qui arrive fréquemment et qui pousse à expérimenter et apprendre parfaitement la physique du titre. Si je n'ai moi-même pas tenté le 100%, c'est plus lié au fait que le deuxième hub (l'île de mamie) n'est pas très clair. Cependant, il n'est pas impossible que je le relance pour récupérer quelques rouages de plus.

There's a Yellow Taxi and it does go vroom.

The lack of a jump button and the movement being based on an accelerator and turbo button makes the traversal really fun, and encourages finding clever setups, doing tricks and generally feeling like you're discovering a new way to approach the collect-a-thon formula. Later areas get a little frustratingly difficult but it was never so bad I wanted to stop. Pretty much the definition of a game that's just pure silly fluffy fun.

This is the kind of game that is chaotic for the sake of being fun and it delivers in full. The story they are trying to go for is that a evil corporation is using gears to take over the world somehow and your legally distinct Italian creator created a spring powered taxi to (somehow) save the world. It doesn't make much sense but the comedy the game has throughout the plot and side characters make is on the lines of "let's go over the top for dumb reasons". (If it makes you feel better, you can crash into people just for the fun of it)

If I had to describe the gameplay of this game, it would be as if Crazy Taxi was a 3d platformer and you drive like a madman/do crazy parkour tricks to make up for the fact that there is no conventional jump button. It feels like you should be going fast all the time but in reality the platforming gives it a unique style to the gameplay and concept. The controls feel tight and the music and level design is good enough. It is a very interest concept the game is going for and it works out well enough to invoke old-school collectathon vibes. The difficulty tends to be a bit harder latter on but if you don't mind it, its a good game filled with colorful nostalgia.

Huge recommend for any classic platforming fans. I love the immediate Crash Bandicoot influence I was hit with when starting it up.
This game is definitely on the harder side, so that is a warning I give to anyone looking to buy it. Be ready for a challenge but a really really fun one.

The game really gets the vibes of a true platformer from the N64 era, with just your yellow taxi and the ability to go vroom you reach all kind of places. This game is cute, funny, and very entertaining. It's one of the few platformers that makes me want to persevere on the harder challenges because it's simply fun to do so.
I also enjoy that the main villain is a blatant reference to that POS El*n M*sk.

One of the most unique and interesting 3D platformers I've played, the way you have to re-learn how to play due to the main character being a taxi and how GOOD it feels once you understand the movement is mind blowing.
It still haves a few rough edges and some levels are in my opinion not really well designed for the mechanics at hand, but overall the game is fun, the lowpoly charm is there and the amount of levels/silly cosmetics will have you entertained for a long time!

Fantastic little platformer with shades of Crazy Taxi thrown in for good measure. Absurd humour. AMAZING Music! Game would be a 10/10, however I have a dock a point for the existence of Morio's Mind. If not for that, this would be a perfect 10. Would still recommend it wholeheartedly in spite this one singular flaw. 100%ing the game will take you about 10-12 Hours I would say, so if you want something you can knock out in a few evenings and have a ripping good time with, there's not many games that can do it quite as well or quite like Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom. All in all, a fine tribute to Arnold. May he Rest in Peace.

This game comes with an epilepsy warning. DO NOT IGNORE IT! It is there for good reason, trust me on this!

Super fun game I was challenged to clear and went overboard with getting all the achievements in 2 days of playing
Very silly and fun story with very good mechanics to play a mix of driving and super mario type game that is very worth to try and learning all the complex jumps and boost timings is very nice
Definitely suggest playing this even if ur the bad at games just give it a try and have fun

Plataformas 3D muy original, que presenta una propuesta que a priori parecería que no tiene sentido, pero que en la práctica funciona sorprendentemente bien y consigue aportar a este género frescura con una movilidad que nunca habíamos visto en un collectathon.

I was drawn in by the absurd title and I stayed for the awesome gameplay. This is a collect-a-thon reminiscent of a Mario Odyssey or Banjo Kazooie styled-game, with very well-designed movement controls as it's main selling point. At first I thought this was speed game, but it plays much more like a careful and thoughtful platformer, despite some levels having a timer (which can easily be extended).

The movement starts out very simple but begs to be experimented with. The game eventually informs you about the entire toolkit, but if you mess around a bit you will stumble on functionalities that will open up so much more of the game early on. This fact combined with the preciseness of the movement makes the gameplay extremely fun to engage with. Exploring levels and trying to find the best place to ramp off of to just BARELY make a jump feels incredibly satisfying. Collectibles are plentiful and have a wide range of difficulty to obtain, but almost all of them are visible or have visual cues that hint at something being just off-screen, and leave you to figure out how to get there. Levels are diverse both in visual design and map design and never really get boring or same-y. There are all kinds of secrets to find aside from just the main collectibles, including many cosmetics that are very unique and often downright ridiculously designed. The few bosses that exist are pretty lame, but they are clearly not the focus and usually just play off of the game's other mechanics. Soundtrack is pretty good, songs fit the areas well and fit the gameplay mostly well.

I do have to call out that the writing in this game is pretty terrible. The comedy falls flat 90% of the time and feels a bit too childish and 'LOL-RANDOM' for me. Might be fine for some people, but it didn't really resonate with me. Also, I like how it changes up the pace of the game, but the level Morio's Mind is the bane of this game in my opinion.

Great game that is very fun to 100%, the last levels in particular are challenging and present some of the best scenarios. Easy purchase for anyone looking for a bright, bouncy collect-a-thon platformer with a touch of nostalgia.

Yellow Taxi Goes Vroom is to Super Mario 64 what Pizza Tower is to Wario Land 4. I’m not really sure if that’s accurate but it feels right to say it.

Judging by the opening moments, I wasn’t expecting much more than a bizarre platformer throwing a bunch of random ideas at the wall. It didn’t take long, though, to realize that beneath all that surface weirdness there’s a deep and extremely fun movement system.

Contrary to what you might expect, combining Super Mario 64 with Crazy Taxi works remarkably well. What sounds like a joke on paper results in one of the most original 3D platformers I’ve played in quite some time, made with an impressive level of care and polish.

The entire system fully embraces the fact that you’re controlling a car, instead of treating it as a superficial gimmick. Movement seems simple at first, but there are many techniques to discover and master. None of them are explicit unlocks; they’re all available from the start, and it’s up to the player to learn and internalize them.

This makes progression incredibly satisfying, since every improvement comes from the player rather than from upgrades. The contrast between how I played at the beginning (struggling with basic movement and thinking certain areas were impossible to reach) and how I moved by the end of the game (flying all over the same levels and feeling like there was no point I couldn’t reach) is huge.

There are a few mechanics that are more context-dependent and felt inconsistent to execute, like the arrow spheres that let you dash and bounce off them. The automatic lock-on failed quite often for me, sending me in completely unintended directions.

I liked how some levels incorporate Crazy Taxi-inspired mechanics. They make great use of the car’s moveset and give you a strong reason to drive at full speed. I also came across a few isolated obstacle-course-style challenges, which I enjoyed a lot. I was disappointed there weren’t more of them.

The levels overall are very creative and fun. That said, there are a couple I didn’t enjoy as much. The worst example is a level centered around infiltrating a tower through a series of stealth sequences. I found it boring and noticeably lower in quality compared to the rest of the game. completely out of place.

Aside from that, the level design is excellent. Environments are packed with things to discover and constantly encourage you to experiment with all kinds of maneuvers.

Presentation-wise, the game is very distinctive. The surreal N64 look fits really well, and there was almost always something absurd enough to make me smile. That’s definitely a plus. Also i really liked the hats you could buy for the car, really a nice touch.

The satirical angle felt a bit too on-the-nose at times (Morio being the clearest example), and I didn’t feel like it added much after a few hours. Still, it never really bothered me. it’s just kind of there, like a background joke.

I don’t think I’ll end up going for 100%, although I’m still messing around with some postgame extras. Even so, my overall impression of the experience is extremely positive. Between the original and highly refined movement, the ridiculous presentation, and the excellent level design, it’s hard not to recommend Yellow Taxi to any fan of the genre.

Bazonkers game. Insanely addicting with a few frustrating parts that are over quickly.
I wasn't really digging the game until I entered the gym where you listen to phonk music, and ultra chad taught me the jump mechanic. From there on out I felt like I had much more control over the movement.
The jump mechanic itself isn't bad but what makes it really annoying over the course of the game is the fact that when you do a jump and hit the ground you bounce up and have to wait an agonizing amount of time until you're back on the ground (where you regain your dash). This makes some jump focused sections feel slow and clunky.
The game has some annoying gimmicks besides that, like in some levels where the camera is locked into place and your movement gets limited to the dash only, literally making the game less fun. Also makes collecting collectables a pain in the ass because the camera is basically hiding them from you and you just have to kinda jump into the dark hoping there's something you weren't able to see. These gimmicks are just short sections of the game though.
Getting collectables that previously seemed impossible to get is so good. Some of them gave Mario Odyssey impossible jump vibes.
