Awesome boomer shooter where you play as Arcane John Wick versus Muppet Goblins. The levels are huge. Weapons are fun, an insane amount of tools and spells aside from the weapons and the music is unreasonably good.

The lack of jumping (or any verticality for that matter) was a turn off for me at first but I got used to it. The game sets limitations for itself and works within them exceptionally well.

I just noticed this game is criminally under reviewed so I decided to do my part.

Spent hours searching for that secret that you have to shoot, man, how the hell anyone gonna figure that one out on thier own. other than that secrets are really well done, lots of them. Love its like doom where it tells you and shows you once you get the secrets map, but even then you still have to figure some of them out yourself and its still impossible like that shoot here, next to dead wizard one. sesh. Combat is kinda bland and easy, playing on nightmare mode, only time i really get killed is when I enter a room to a gangbang or goblins and exloding toxic barrels. Some of the rooms you can't see where your getting shot from because of the lame draw/render distance in dark rooms. It basically is played by save scumming the whole way or just redoing up until the last auto save and sometimes you have to restart the level if your not save scumming because auto save, traps you in a spot with no health after getting gangbanged.

overall decent. Mostly enjoy the secret hunting. Wish the AI was smarter, even on nightmare its just getting overwhelmed by numbers and wild spawns. Wish the weapon wheel was easier to use in combat. Love the shotgun, that thing smacks.

What a delightful surprise! This flew in under the radar for some reason.

Wizordum is a bit like if you combined Hexen, Heretic, and Wolfenstein 3D into one package. It's a real 'video-gamey' video game too, if you know what I mean. Pure dopamine gaming, basically. Pretty cool stuff and you can tell the developers really give a damn. I'm only on the secret level in episode 1, and it seems likely that the experience is going to get better and better.

Much to say but it all boils down to 'Quite Good'. My only advice is that you should probably play on the penultimate difficulty; the game gives many tools and judicious use of them streamlines combat.

However, keep in mind that it's a modern day adaptation/homage of old school Wolfenstein and its designs. That's pretty different from most classic FPS throwbacks. A cynical part of me sees this as a bit of a brave choice on the development group's part, but that just means that they 100% wanted to make it exactly how they did. The game is better for it.

Let me start by saying I am much more into games like Doom and especially the frenetic movement of Unreal Tournament. I usually do not enjoy fantasy games with magic weapons and such but I was convinced by Civvie, I saw the first few moments of his video and wanted to play it spoiler free. I say this because it had the odds stacked against it, since this is not a type of game I usually pick up. I am glad I did, I am having a lot of fun with this one. I can understand what people saw in Hexen and Heretic now. This is the best Wolfenstein 3D grid style game I have ever played, easily.

Great art direction and sound that quickly immerses the player and a steady loop of combat choices, puzzles, and secrets to sustain gameplay. Some people gripe with the meaninglessness of weapons, but they're all fun. This has great bones to become more fleshed out in a future rpg with a greater story and upgrade emphasis.

Excellent mix of doom with heretic. Levels are great with nice shortcuts and enemy placement. Enemy variety is pretty cool and the mix of classes and spells lets you enjoy multiple playthroughs.

Add to that the multitude of custom levels and if you enjoy the gameplay you can keep playing forever.

10/10 would play again.

I think this game is very good and definetly worth it. However there were some bugs. Throughout my playthrough enemies would get stuck in walls and then attack me through them. It created some funny moments like when a rat jumpscared me by jumping out of a wall or something like that. But there were some moments where it was just a pain. For example in chapter 2, the ghost lady enemies would get stuck in the wall and stay there zooming out now and then with an attack and be unhittable. In the final level before the final boss, the fire imps were constantly shooting fireballs through the floor causing me to take loads of uneccesary damage in the hardest most stressful level. The game really was good and don't let this discourage you from playing it, just watch out for it.

The unapologetically unrealistic funhouse feel of OG Rise of the Triad, the epic exploration feel of Hexen, and the bold style and colours (not to mention beautifully simple and satisfying gameplay loop) of the ancient Catacomb3D games all mashed together into a sleeper hit fantasy FPS. The many criticisms you'll read (repetitive, too easy/hard, lack of weapon roles, bugs) all have some varying degrees of truth, but for me the whole experience is such charming, epic toy-like and addictive FUN that it's hard to care! Remember when games were fun? I'd love to write more, but I'm too busy playing WIZORDUM!!!

I like it. Gameplay is smooth and satisfying, decent enemy and weapon variety, sick level design, great music and adorable artstyle. Some items and spells are more useful than others, but that is just normal. Three different characters to choose from, all of them lead to different play styles. Classic secrets, some of them are hard to find, but that does not bother me - called a "secret" for a reason. The "secrets map" is a nice idea and helps a lot with hunting those secrets. Level editor is available, also some pretty decent user levels (e.g.: remake of first level of Wolfenstein 3D, stuff like that). No technical issues. Recommended!

Runs smooth, graphics are fun and in the style of Wolf3D, but
- navigating is a chore, even with the minimal help from the minimap.
- you can soft-lock yourself behind blocking objects like trees if you use the rush/fast move ability to pass them, and the ability only recharges when killing things.
- you can soft-lock yourself with some movable walls since you can move faster than the walls and trap yourself.

Wizordrum es a primera vista un boomer shooter en toda regla, y si bien su presentación y ciertas características están fuertemente inspiradas en Heretic y Hexen (lo cual es gracioso porque también tendríamos un remaster de estos el mismo año), una vez lo juegas te das cuenta que se trata más de un híbrido que inyecta mecánicas modernas como habilidades con cooldown y armas que pueden ser mejoradas, con el más clásico y tradicional diseño de niveles que pueda ofrecerte este género, estoy hablando de empujar paredes para descubrir cuartos secretos, colectar tesoros para ganar puntos y un mundo que teme con la misma intensidad tanto a un dios iracundo como a construir paredes en diagonal.

I'm not sure why I slept on this for so long but it's a fantastic game. It reminds me of a mix of Wolfenstein and Doom with it's own spin on it. It's surprisingly long and has enjoyable weapons. I think my main critique is the "shotgun" in this game being like a handheld musket but that's not enough to detract from my overall enjoyment. So far, I'd give this game a solid 8.5/10.

Really fun FPS. The action is tight and the enemies are fun. The difficulty levels are finely tuned. I thought the game was great and then I discovered the completion system. It gives me a reason to play each difficulty level. Play on easy to complete that difficulty, get the lore books, learn the level a bit, and to do the "par time" completion. Then play the harder difficulties and complete other challenges, like finding all the secrets. Having my character unlocks bound to the account rather than a single save game is brilliant. Instead of playing through what would have been a fun FPS, you're playing through the entire game. It's really smart and well done.

I just finished this game. I think this is just barely above avarage. While the visuals are nice, everything else is mostly just mediocre for the most part, The weapons or at least most of them feel good to use, the music is only enjoyable on some levels but is very boring overall and the level design is atrocious where there are many traps in a narrow hallway that monsters also shoot at you at the same time..

The enemy design is nothing new it's like a combination of DOOM and Hexen/Heretic which made me wonder the whole time, why not just play that instead?

This game is also FILLED with bugs, whether its secrets that won't budge, or monsters shooting you THROUGH THE DANG WALL!!

but give it a try I like the premise the idea is fun and we don't have enough wizard games, I think there are too many secrets for my taste and or at least they were annoying to look for (for example a button that a vine conceals) which made me give up on the secrets, some require too ride a cart and you need a pre-requisite light to see in the dark form a different secret or the cart goes too fast for you to react to a button that opens a secret making you re-ride the whole time

Kinda wish there was a Middle option - Overall Thoughts: Project Warlock 1 did it better?
Still a good game but I almost everything beside the Levels were done better by Project Warlock

Pros: Charming Artwork
Each weapon has effects (IE: Fire ring burns foes, Ice Staff freezes foes near death)
Some of the Levels are crazy and feel like half a Shadow Warrior or Duke Nukem (also bad thing)
You get a variety of items to use

Cons: Arsenal is stinky, you only get like 8 and really only the Ice Staff and Crossbow are good
The "Weapons" are like normal Doom versions with nothing else
Weapons got upgrades but most of them suck and very little to buy that actually change the game (See Project Warlock where you got generic upgrades and ones that change the weapon function)
I could never figure out what more "effective" to use on some enemies
Your "Spells" are abilities you stole off people from the game Evolve pretty much
(IE: all you need for a proper "Spell" have a animation of you preparing it and idk shoot a fireball, ice wave or generate a explosion in your targeted enemy)
Also FINAL Boss is like a joke, I thought he was going to be harder

Pet Peeve of mine is Secrets, everyone got them but they are annoying, especially when the map will show you it nearby but the activation is like "over there"

Beside that, It runs smoothly, shoots smoothly, looks nice and some of the levels are really good but imo it "Get it on a Discount" level

It kinda messed up I was complaining Project Warlock 1 only has 3 offensive spells out of 10 and Project Warlock 2 downgrades them to abilities (They are nice but the enemy is Legion)
And this game like "Get down mister president!" all over it. xox

When I came across the game for the first time, I felt little vibes similar to good old Heretic and also Hexen. And once I got it and played it, I wasn't too far off from what I expected from the game. And I had a lot of fun with it despite not touching any kind of FPS since 2004.

You have four difficulties to pick, and I've played on master which is the second highest. There were spicy moments at times, but nothing really felt unfair or over the edge to me so I had a good time getting through the game. I never ran out of ammo for weapons, trying to balance out which weapons to use which helped to always be able to use the weapon I wanted to.

Should you not like, or even want more gore, you can adjust it to your preferences so everyone can play it in a way they enjoy.

You have three different classes to pick which differ in their main weapon, and what abilities you may get over time, different playstyles for different tastes being given which is nice.

The levels vary in appearance and length, some being of moderate length, some taking you longer until you've reached the end of the level. Which felt like the balance of the levels was done well.

From different weapons and their usage, items to use for more fire power or to support yourself, you have a good amount of choices in how to approach situations and enemies to handle them. And with all the treasures you find in the levels, you can upgrade your weapons and class abilities plus get some passives so it gets rewarded to be curious.

The levels have secrets which one can find by different means, even coming across some Easter Eggs which surprised me in a good way. And these secrets are often needed to get a level fully done. So exploring and checking for walls and other places which you find suspicious gets rewarded if figuring out how to get to these places. And if you find the right places, you may get some help in trying to find what you may seek, or didn't know you seek yet.

Enemy variety is plenty, different beings threatening you, and the further you get, the more new faces will show up. From minor to major threats, you'll eventually know when you want to use your better weapons to take them out quickly before taking a lot of damage.

You have a rather basic story, and you get lore about each level if you find the items which tell you about them. With the focus being the gameplay, this didn't feel negative to me as you got your information about what's going on and what you may run into if you were curious enough to find these information.

Speedrunner can enjoy to try to go fast when each level has a par time. And fully found treasures, monsters, and secrets give people options if they just want to get through levels fast, or explore and find everything the level has to offer.

I really like the music as it gives the right atmosphere for the different levels for sure. And when you hear the music getting intense or of epic levels, you know you're in for some fun.

There wasn't honestly anything what felt bad to me. One can argue if it's needed to know where to go since the game helps you with that, the levels not feeling overwhelming or confusing that I needed that feature. But that's just my opinion.

Overall, if seeking an FPS game with retro feeling from the Doom, Heretic, or similar games era, you'll enjoy Wizordum, and have a good time in general.

Izzy Wizzy! Let’s get BLOODY!

Wizordum is a classic “boomershooter” style game. One that takes the formula and strips it right back to some of the most bare essential elements and then fleshes things out from there. It goes less for the tried and tested Doom / Quake formula and throws it further back, reflecting more Wolfenstein and Catacomb 3D, but as it does so it adds many extras that reminds of both Heretic and Hexen with special abilities and classes. It is likely one of the best examples of a modern throwback shooter that takes a classic approach and then adds its own spin, standing out from the crowd with more gusto than most of its peers.

As I imagine most folks who play FPS titles a lot will have heard, there is this throwback genre people call “boomershooters”. Bar the name being somewhat bad, it describes a throwback style of game that harkens to 90s designs. The good thing is they tend to be very much “pure” games, lacking a lot of superfluous online features and tend not to be too intrusive, as well as keeping their designs relatively simple. The bad thing is that, in the past half decade, there have arguably been WAY too many of them. While in 2019 they were a breath of fresh air, now they are seemingly just more games for the sake of there being more games. This means for folks who are not massively into the genre, you have to be somewhat selective of your titles.

Wizordum, as established, is one of these games. How does it stand out?

As mentioned above, the design is more like Wolfenstein or Catacomb 3D. These are notable for being some of the earliest titles by the genre’s greatest pioneers, Id Software. How they differ from Doom and Quake later is how basic they were. While Doom had no jumping and could not do room over room, it did have height and you could drop down to rooms below. Wizordum does not have that. In face, Wizordum does not even have angled walls. The entire playing area is limited to a single plane (well, mostly) contained in areas that are broken up into perfect cube blocks that only have right angles. If you come to the edge of any of these areas, even when there is a drop below you, you cannot jump down. This mostly limits your movement to having no Z axis capabilities without jumping. While there is height, this is can only be accessed either via portals on walls (dressed up as staircases in a 2D picture) or the occasional elevator. This makes Wizordum’s closest comparison point the other modern title Project Warlock.

In a small way, this makes Wizordum stand out from the pack. While there are hundreds of Quake clones at this point, there are few titles with the more simplified horizontal movement on display here. How Wizordum stands out further is mostly via its aesthetic and tone.

If you have not noticed via screenshots, Wizordum is not a modern or scifi shooter. Instead, it opts for a medieval setting. You don’t shoot guns (well, with one exception), you cast fireballs with magic rings, you shoot iceshards from a wand, you shoot enchanted bolts from crossbows etc. This places it more into the realm of Hexen than Doom. Considering that the fantasy shooter genre is somewhat underserved, this is a nice change.

While many boomshoots op for a more dark and gritty tone, Wizordum is about as bright and colourful as you can get. The early levels are filled with vibrant greens under a bright blue sky. The enemies are bold and clear, the pickups are clear with good silhouettes, the environmental hazards are bold and clear. Not only is Wizordum visually bright and distinct, it is easy to read as well.

This bright and whimsical aesthetic somewhat clashes with some elements, though this may seem intentional. Although the character may seem goofy, the music and story seem to do their utmost to make the game out to be quite serious. Not only is it there a bombastically voiced introduction, but the average level has a fantastic score accompanying it. It is hard to state how well the music suits the game. Think less Hetetic, more the orchestral theme to Medal of Honour or a slightly Danny Elfman influenced Medievil.

So far, so basic. Even if the game is whimsical and has a good score, is that reason enough to get Wizordum?
Maybe not, but there is more.

Each successive level here changes things up significantly. While the initial map is relatively small, on average each level is about 20 to 35 minutes long without secret hunting. These levels vary it up from castle courtyards, sewers (yes, a sewer level), graveyards, docks, burning cities, ancient woodland and various other fantasy tropes. While this may seem very ordinary, the quality of the level design, especially with the basic limitations set with the game’s logic, is typically outstanding. Levels progress quite naturally in most instances, and backtracking is rarely too much of a pain. The combat scenarios are well paced and, difficulty selected dependent, are challenging enough to not cause issues in most instances. Combine this with so many damn secrets and you have a fantastic adventure awaiting!

Aside from the variation in levels, there is the variation in powers. Besides the normal selectable weapons, the characters in Wizordum all have their own powers and abilities. Aside from the now obligatory grenade button, there are powers that can be called upon once a set number of foes have been felled. These vary from healing oneself, causing a flaming nova, pushing the enemies back, homing projectiles that heal you etc. These are somewhat class dependent, so a holy nova or self heal are for the cleric, while blood projectiles that heal you are for the blood mage.
These abilities are bolstered by one use pickups, which can be used to speed up your character, cause you to blink through enemies, become invisible, fire off frost breath in front of you etc. Like the class abilities, these can be used when the player feels it is best, but are based on pickups found through the game.

All these factors combine to make the apparently simple Wizordum to be a far deeper game than it initially seemed. While Wizordum has all the ingredients to seem like a throwback to a set, certain game from the 90s, it is thoroughly its own beast.

This distinction is the selling point for Wizordum. Not only is it a really well made, cleverly thought out title that was clearly made by people who cared about what they were making, it is a very unique feeling FPS in a sector of the market that is bloated right now. This reason alone elevates Wizordum above a lot of its peers, such as Forgive me Father or Project Warlock 2.
Wizordum is not only good, it is better.
That alone is good enough reason to play it than anything else.

Flashback to 1996. I'm a kid enjoying my NES and Genesis, playing as many fantasy games as I can, letting my imagination run wild as I see the pixelated graphics, wishing I could be in these worlds. Don't get me wrong, there's been plenty of great fantasy games that have come out since the 90s that kinda do that, a logical progression of adventure, rpg, etc.

But there's something really special about this game, that just struck me as being the exact kind of game that my imagination conjured up back then. I just wanted to step into the games, and get a better perspective, as if I was in the game itself. And this game nails that feeling. I didn't really have a grasp of polygons, or what games could look like. I knew the wonderful pixelated graphics from those early 90s games, and they are what I imagined in that 3D world. The exploration, the mood, the shockingly good music, and variety of enemies, surprises, secrets, and paths to take just tickle the right parts of my brain. I do not say this lightly: This is one of my favorite games. It's so simple, and that's exactly where the dopamine hits. It is just complicated enough to be fun, but simple enough to just flow with zero friction.

And can you believe it, this thing has a LEVEL EDITOR. I wish it was a little more intuitive, but they even let you import your own graphics. I haven't figured out if I can import sounds yet,

Also, I really must highlight: I've had a hard time really putting time into games on the level and with the consistency that I would like. This game is so easy to pick up and put down, save anywhere with no issue. That can be very useful. Also, great entry for steam deck.

I want more levels from the devs, I hope you guys do either a sequel, or DLC to make another equal length campaign. I think this game is perfect, and wouldn't need a full new game to justify more content, so some good DLC seems ideal (and would give the added benefit of more visual resources for our level editing efforts)

Von Anfang bis Ende ein fantastisches Retro FPS Game!! Hat 2-3 Level gebraucht bis ich mich vollends an die Steuerung gewöhnt hatte, aber dann war es nahezu ein perfektes Spielerlebnis.
+ wunderbare Grafik
+ abwechslungsreiche und sehr gut durchdachte Level und Levelführung (Map)
+ extrem gutes Balancing (Gegner, Ammo, Health etc.)

Great little game. Old school style so don't expect jumping. Plays like a fantasy version of Wolfenstein 3D if they had the processing power back then to make the same intricate levels. The art style is a little cartoony for my test but there's a solid gameplay loop if you look past that. The spells and weapons don't feel super impactful but they are passabley fun to use and work well enough that enemies don't feel like tedious damage sponges. So while I don't rate this game amongst my all-time personal favourite games it's fun as hell and I see myself replaying it every now and again in the future. Definitely worth trying the demo to see if you like it.

No user support for these issues. - Mod: Clicking Steam to use mod.io doesn't work, and without it I can't even play other mods, which is wrong. Editor: Copying a block is very buggy: The editor says Right-click to copy, but it's actually Shift+Right-click in all block copy cases. The main block and floor do copy the texture data usually for suture placing, I've not tested ceiling, but the other block types don't copy texture data which means copy simply isn't working at all; I'm just placing a new block with default texture.

If I had to describe this game with a single word, "charming" would the one I'd choose. The gameplay is very old-school, as you might expect, though there are some abilities and consumables mixed in. What really made this game work for me, were the levels and the gimmicks some of them had. Most of them felt like actual places and not the artificial mazes from the era the game is emulating. The things I didn't enjoy, weren't really fault of the game per se, but the expected core features that come with it being '90's style, but that just proves the game is good and clearly a lot of care went into it.

Solidna podstawa w mechanikach, wizualnie, jest jak powinno być, to nie jest gra dla szukających raytracingu w grach, pierwszy epizod, bardzo solidny, ale im dalej tym gorzej. W pewnym momencie do level designu dorwał się jakiś fan teleportowania przeciwników za plecami gracza, co może być zabawne gdy jest raz na kilka leveli, choć generalnie, nie powinno się tak robić, natomiast gdy jest to kilkanaście razy na level, a same levele są zaprojektowane tak, żeby gracz musiał bardzo intensywnie używać quick save, to znaczy że ktoś chyba zgłupiał. Stare wolfensteiny potrafiły jakoś pogodzić wysoki poziom trudności, uczciwość w designie poziomów, i nie zmuszanie gracza do zapisywania gry co 30 sekund. Były tam oczywiście inne błędy w designie, jak np. nie dawanie graczowi żadnych podpowiedzi gdzie mogą być ukryte sekrety, ale tu wizordum znowu ten błąd bardzo często (nie zawsze, ale często) wnosi na nowy poziom, bo sekrety potrafią być nie tylko ukryte tak, żeby nikt ich nie znalazł, ale są np. ukryte za podłogą z lawy, więc znowu, zmuszanie gracza żeby zapisał grę, "ostukał" ściany, w przypadku gdy to jednak nie tu, quick load i idziemy dalej. Kolejny błąd w designie, mapa, tak jak rozumiem to jak są rozbite levele na "poziomy", w końcu gra udaje korytarzówkę z czasów wolfensteina z paroma bajerami, tak nie rozumiem czemu mapa nie pokazuje dokąd dane drzwi nas poprowadzą, co w połączeniu z dość skomplikowaną architekturą leveli sprawia, że jak ktoś chce wygrzebać wszystkie sekrety, będzie błądził, chyba że ma fotograficzną pamięć. Na koniec dodam że finałowa walka jest nieuczciwa, tzn. design który jest oparty na szczęściu, a nie na umiejętnościach gracza to g...no nie design, bo trzeba mieć bardzo dużo szczęścia żeby przeżyć te hordy przeciwników, nie wleźć do lawy, i unikać fal ognia rzucanych przez bossa. I've really enjoy this game. I just finished Chapter 1, and this definitely feels like a game from the 90s in all the best ways. It doesn't hand hold you like modern games do, but it doesn't leave you high and dry either. The graphics are wonderfully done, and the soundtrack is an A+. This is a great game for someone looking to not get overwhelmed by the large games of today and just enjoy shooting bad guys with cool weapons.

Very fun game with a retro feel. If you like Doom, Duke Nukem, Heretic, Blood; you'll love this game. The combat or spells feel really fun and switch between the choices was great. 8.7 out of 10. If, way back when, you enjoyed Catacomb 3D by apogee, you will love this game. This feels very much like a spiritual successor to that game. Bright punchy colorful graphics and music are wonderful. Likewise, lets say if you like Boltgun or other FPS retro shooters, this is a standout on style alone. There is also a lot of bang for the buck with 21 lengthy missions.

There are some downsides - some have complained about the map layouts and complexity. That doesn't bother me so much, it's just some maps seem to wear out their welcome for a bit, like one of the missions took me over an hour to get through - but to contradict myself, I love the themes of the maps; the designers found clever ways to give the maps atmosphere.

Some other downsides covered in The Scarlet Seeker's youtube review (@ 7:52) where he covers "monster closets". I do agree with him but at the same time it doesn't bother me too much, there are just some sequences where it feels like from instinct I've cleared a room and I let my guard down then I get attacked and lose valuable health.

Bottom line though, I bought this on a 20 % discount (I think around 18 to 15 bucks) but I don't feel like I threw my money away - I've been coming back to this game and I have a lot of competition in my library.

Probably one of my favorite boomer shooters that came out, this game is kind of like you take those super colorful apogee 2D shooters and put them into the wolfenstein 3D engine, but a bit more advanced since it has textured walls and ceilings, plus technically height values, though you only operate on one plane at a time. Outside of a few elevators, you never go up and down. Mix in the variety of fun magic weapons akin to Heretic/Hexen with the Heretic inventory system and that's what you got! Even have a few wizard powers to enjoy. A good time, though I will say it gets much better after Episode 1 and honestly Episode 1 is very good. You got 3 episodes to enjoy!

It's kinda like Doom or Quake but with magic, nothing too deep or super innovative, but it is a lot of fun. It plays very well, you have a variety of weapons and abilities, half of which I usually forget to even use. There are lots of secrets and puzzles, most of which can be ignored, but they do offer some additional challenge with extra rewards.

One minor issue I'm having is with the controls - I'm using ESDF instead WASD and while the controls are remappable, there seem to be some hardcoded controls when you have the map open, which interfere with my movement controls - mainly the F key which toggles "map view" and is used for scrolling the map to the right. There doesn't seem to be a way to remap these keys. It doesn't really affect the gameplay, but it is still an issue that I noticed, so I'm mentioning it.

In any case, overall great game, and the developer is really cool too.

This is a great game. It's made with love and care, and really rewards exploration and obsessive searching for secrets. The gameplay is tight, the aesthetic is lovely if a but simple, the audio is solid and the music, while a little boring, suits the environments. My only real complaint, though it is a significant one (for someone with my tastes) is that, between trying to find secret areas and simply navigating the relatively large and circuitous levels, backtracking becomes unavoidable. Combined this with how multifaceted the levels are, and backtracking starts becoming borderline constant, especially because it's easy to get turned around and lost, which quickly bores and then frustrates me. I doubt I'll finish the game, but that doesn't mean there's anything wrong with it. It's just a matter of my preferences in gaming.

Gamefeel is great - a blend of DOS-era shooter mechanics and modern gaming convention that is very satisfying. You're given so many different capabilities that I struggle to remember to use them all. The game has a very bright retro aesthetic and there's a setting to reduce the violence and gore. It's really refreshing to play an FPS that's cheery and welcoming in its aesthetic. We need more games that don't glory in sin and darkness.

The levels are packed with secrets. Treasure, your currency for upgrades, feels legitimately good to collect. The artistic limitations of a 3d-tile-based world are used to great effect - the levels get really big and sprawling. You've got a map and you'll need it. There's a level editor and a community of folks making custom content for the game.

On the standard difficulty setting I find myself dying from time to time, but not with frequency, which is about what I like for an enjoyable gaming session.

Fun game.

I've played 12 hours at time of writing and I'm only a little ways into the 2nd episode. I comb every level after I clear it, and despite only usually finding half the secrets I can easily spend an hour in each level.

Wizordum feels like it was influenced from Heretic, Wolfenstein 3D and other old "boomer shooters" (goodness i hate that term), it isn't enjoyable for me at all, quite boring, combat is very anemic with very little substance, the sound mixing is BAD to the point of where it physically started to hurt my ears, level design isn't good, granted, I haven't played past the first couple of levels, but I'm not a particular fan of games that only get good after a spesific amount of time playing, except if it's only like.. a little bit of time or the second half of the game makes up for it well, which from what footage I'm seeing, the game doesn't particularly do, I do know that a new class rolled around that looks... ok(???), but it doesn't pique my interest enough to go back into the game, Apogee's newer releases I'm not too interested in but this one I really do not like at all

Игра получилась неплохой, но видно, что интеллект разработчиков заметно ниже, чем у создателей оригинальных шедевров, это видно на каждом шагу. Скопировать многие вещи из старых игр получилось, но понимания, что и для чего, нет на всем протяжении игры.

Начну с плюсов:

1. Не самое плохое музыкальное сопровождение. Не отвлекает, но создает атмосферу, не надоедает, не сильно повторяется.

2. Игра длинная. В наши дни это очень важно, потому что DLC-мания губит игрострой.

3. Отлично обыграли пиксельность, она именно такая, какая надо, без перегибов.

4. Многие вещи из Catacomb, Heretic, и даже Blood "скопированы правильно" и радуют.

5. Уровни сделаны не слишком банально.

6. Есть удачные находки, типа книги заклинаний или рождественского гоблина.

7. МОЖНО ЕЗДИТЬ НА КРЫСЕ!!!

Минусы тоже есть, и ощутимые:

1. Нет чит-кодов. Это тяжелое поражение когнитивных функций современных игроделов, они почему-то думают, что пользователям читы не нужны. Для дефективных умственно людей неочевидно, что читы нужны просто по факту, например, я 3 раза намертво застревал в текстурах, был бы noclip, я бы выбрался, но нет его и не будет. И так далее. За отсутствие читов ОЧЕНЬ жирный минус.

2. Не хватило ума сделать управление в меню с клавиш - работает только мышь. Whyyyyy?? Также в меню сверху нет первой же опции "продолжить игру с last save", ну нахрена так делать?

3. Секреты. Отдельный разговор. Итак, раньше в играх секреты были разбиты примерно на три категории. Первая - очевидные, мимо сложно пройти. Примерно 30-40% должны быть такими. Вторая - надо подумать, и найдешь. Примерно 30-40%. И последняя категория - легендарно запрятанные секреты, их от 10 до 30 процентов максимум должно быть - это для самых мрачных фанатов. И механики поиска и открытия этих секретов должны быть простыми, потому что иначе это уже чтение солюшна/просмотр на ютубе прохождения, а не игра. Что же сделали наши милашки? А вот - 60% от всех секретов - легендарно запрятаны так, что даже с картой хрен поймешь, как до них добраться. Так делают только дураки, собственно, еще один ЖИРНЫЙ минус.

4. Оружие. С одной стороны, оно неплохое. С другой, оно сделано абсолютно БЕЗ ПОНИМАНИЯ. Ждешь, ждешь последний посох, апгрейдишь его, а он все равно полная фигня, и даже морозная палка лучше. Но книга заклинаний меня порадовала, так что сильно ругать не буду.

5. Игра сыровата, и это наверное нормально, но когда убитые враги встают и ждут, пока ты их еще раз прикончишь, становится смешно.

6. Мало пасхалок. ИХ РЕАЛЬНО МАЛО!!

7. Дурацкий магазин - все покупаешь очень быстро, товаров крайне мало, и потом это превращается в насмешку - деньги есть, а купить нечего раз за разом.

BONUS: ЗАЧЕМ ВЫ СДЕЛАЛИ СПЕЦИАЛЬНО УЛЬТРА-МЕДЛЕННУЮ ЗАГРУЗКУ СЕЙВОВ??? Неотключаемую к тому же. Да и вообще, игра почти не настраивается, опций практически нет.

BONUS2: Почему я сначала играл в демо, потом купил фулл, сейвы переехали, а АЧИВКИ НЕТ? Я уже честно прошел первые уровни, но для получения ачивок их придется перепроходить. ТУПОСТЬ!

В целом, деньги потрачены не зря. Надеюсь, в команду в будущем придет такой же страстный ретрогеймер, как я, и вычистит глупости.
