Great Roguelike game, found out about it because of youtube and it immediately caught my eye. The game mechanics are very cool, especially the separate stamina managment for each hand, the gameplay is also great, it gets very addicting very quickly with the amount of gamemodes, challanges and secrets this game has. This is my favorite game of all time ever, ever. It is an incredibly fun roguelike with an amazing hidden story for those who love lore, and fantastic gameplay. The style is so so so lovely and creepy in a wonderful & charming way and reminds me of older games. If you like roguelikes that have a high skill ceiling i would recommend this to you. Scratch that, if you like games i would recommend this to you. You can go super fast or play it safe and go slow. 100/10 game. I am stopping myself from ranting about how much i love every little design detail, sound effect, artistic choice, game design choice, etc; because i am already writing a very long review, but, I love white knuckle <3 thank you to the devs for this amazing game

The Good
Most of the game is pretty fun. The climbing system manages to be the only one in basically any gave I've ever played that doesn't feel like the game is actively trying to make you fall. It's easy, intuitive, and works perfectly almost all the time. There are gimmicks with certain things in the game that make it so you're not just doing the exact same thing the whole game.

The Bad
There are certain parts that feel blatantly unfair. There aren't many (although at first I thought there were but I just had to play those parts more), but there is one in particular. Specifically, [spoiler]The Abyss[/spoiler] feels too punishing to navigate through, even with [spoiler]the artifact you get[/spoiler. I would like to see certain parts of this area nerfed and made easier, but a pro about this part is that the atmosphere is really good.

This game to me is close to perfect, I can't describe this itching feeling to improve constantly that makes me come back more and more. The lore, the gameplay, the plenty of well thought story driven pieces of clues that actually reward you with achievements as a push to actually play those bits, and they are all equally amazing! I especially love 'the ladder' easter egg, to drive to insanity with 0 hope of seeing anything but just "going up more", all of the past climber dying, starving, torturing themselves to climb further.

I also enjoy sub-lore content like chimney and parasite, white parasite feels more as a demanded objective you understand through experience, the chimney is traces to a puzzle left behind about 2 girls and they're love (YURI!!)

More games should strive to be this good, I genuinely am very thankful and it's money very well spent!! I cannot wait for the next 2 chapters 'nest' and the one with what looks to be the AI in the superstructure,

This was without a doubt my favorite game to 100% <3

Это одна из немногих игр, что понравилась мне почти во всем. Даже несмотря на то, что она все ещё в раннем доступе, в ней уже достаточно много контента, для того чтобы провести в ней несколько десятков часов. И хотя она не лишена недостатков, для меня она 8/10.

Она подойдет для людей которые готовы к вызову, не имеют проблем с восприятием цвета и глубины, и обладают достаточно устойчивым вестибулярным апппаратом. Чтобы комфортно себя чувствовать в ней, придется привыкнуть к особенностям физики, и потратить значительное количество времени на бэктрекинг локаций. Это не игра на вечер под чашечку кофе, это реальное испытание вашего терпения и мастерства. Если вы не готовы начинать с самого начала снова и снова, я рекомендую прохождение на YouTube.

This is one of the few games that I liked almost in every aspect. Even though it’s still in early access, it already has enough content to keep you busy for several dozen hours. And while it’s not without flaws, for me it’s an 8/10.

This game is suited for people who are up for a challenge, have no problems with color and depth perception, and have a fairly stable vestibular system. To feel comfortable in it, you’ll need to get used to the physics and spend a significant amount of time backtracking through locations. This is not a game for a cozy evening with a cup of tea - it’s a real test of your patience and skill. If you’re not ready to start from the very beginning over and over again, I recommend watching a playthrough on YouTube.

Holy moly this game is a GOOD. If you're looking for a game that will give you that tryhard sweaty palm dopamine rush then this is it. You will curse, you will scream, you will spend hours and hours doing the same area over and over again and you WILL get better. You'll watch yourself go from barely finishing silos to doing sick skips using rebar knockback and stacks of pills. There's secrets everywhere and super powerful items and equally horrible unfair enemies but they can all be avoided with enough practice.

You will learn to abuse the mechanics, climb faster and faster and STILL die. It's amazing. Also rougelike. Can't wait to see what comes next.

This game is extremely fun, some of the most satisfying climbing mechanics that greatly reward practice and learning new skills. The vibe, art, and lore are generally incredible.

I will say progression in this game can be extremely frustrating. Almost every obstacle in this game can (and in many cases will) immediately kill you, completely resetting all progress. So you will often die and reset without understanding what killed you or how to avoid it in the future.

[b]This game will reward you with very satisfying gameplay once you have smashed your head against the wall long enough to make consistent progress to the later areas [/b](in my case I started feeling much more confident after around 10 hours)[b], [u]but it will not respect your time or assist you at all during that learning process[/u][/b]. You will die, over and over, losing all progress every time, until you either git gud or uninstall. Just know that is what you're signing up for.

Incredible game, just pretty inhospitable to newer players trying to learn and make progress.

Сказать честно не ожидал что подобный продукт мне вообще понравится, но думаю наиграв около 25 часов в демо и почти 20 часов в полную версию я могу выделить плюсы и минусы игры. Скажу сразу, плюсов очевидно больше и наверное если бы я не играл в демо версию то и минусов для меня было бы меньше. И так, у игры очень приятная графика, мало того, она не просто в ретро стиле, она и по требования к железу вполне ретро, конечно я бы не сказал что для меня это важно это очень круто и позволяет игре заполучить очень широкую аудиторию в будущем, да и возможность играть в неё на каком-нибудь старом задрыпанном ноуте тоже вполне себе радует. Ощущения от игры невероятно классные, всё даёт импакт, всё ощущается объемным, рывки, прыжки, броски, удары, всё это даёт очень приятное чувство погружения которое заставляет буквально прилипнуть к экрану в первые часы игры, и лично для меня это несомненно выделяет её на фоне остальных рогаликов которые мне вообще никогда не заходили. Так же очень интересно реализованы предметы которые можно подбирать или покупать в ходе восхождения, по сути если собрать достаточно личинок и шприцев то можно вообще забить на классические препятствия и просто полететь вверх, так же с отдачей при броске арматуры с помощью которой можно делать очень много скипов и одновременно убивать врагов, возможность ставить колышки на лету и сразу прыгать это отдельный вид удовольствия, в общем почти всё что касается обычных предметов очень радует. А теперь пожалуй к тому что мне кажется не очень сильной стороной игры, это разнообразие, да, очевидно что это скорее всего измениться в ходе разработки и я правда на это надеюсь и поэтому отзыв позитивный, но на данный момент мне как будто не хватает тех возможностей что может дать игра, просто вентиляция в начале ведущая на типа шорткат с другими локациями и врагами по факту просто набор из четырёх локаций где ты не имеешь возможности набрать нормальное количество предметов для прохождения что делает его полностью бесполезным как по мне, ибо первый этап как раз и имеет смысл перепроходить чтобы с помощью вещей собранных на нём потом было возможно более эффективное прохождение следующих локаций. Мне кажется что банальные вентиляции которые позволяют проползти чуть вбок или вверх это просто затычка пока на лучшие варианты не хватает ресурсов, потому-что я вижу реальные альтернативные варианты как что-то параллельное основному пути, не путь который ты выбираешь и тебе закрывают дорогу назад а именно тропы идущие от начала и до конца, разные тропы с одинаковой сложностью но разными способами добиться этой сложности, чтобы можно было сменять пути на ходу, если нужно заплатив тараканами. Просто то что на данный момент есть в игре надоедает достаточно быстро, этап с подниманием на лифте, потом подъем в шахте лифта отстреливаясь фаерами от монстра боящегося темноты, потом этап где нужно проползать по вентиляции с ползающими по ней руками, я хотел бы иметь возможность выбирать как мне подниматься ввысь а не просто проходить одни и те же нелюбимые этапы которые заставляют несколько раз подумать над тем а хочу ли я вообще запускать следующий забег. Подобная ситуация касается и улучшений, они в игре реализованы довольно странным образом как мне кажется, всего есть 2 типа автоматов с улучшениями, одни попадаются в каждой безопасной области и предлагают улучшения по типу +75% восстановления стамины, +50% длинны рук за 10 тараканов, +25% скорости бега. И так далее, и есть второй тип автоматов встречающийся всего 1 раз за игру, и казалось бы, раз одни автоматы это обязательный атрибут каждого этапа восхождения, то наверное этот единственный автомат на всю игру даёт значительные изменения в гейплее? И здесь идёт как по мне очень странное решение разработчика, да, автомат как будто кричит о том что призван внести уникальность в каждый забег, и он это делает, в какой-то мере. В нём может выпасть мутация на механику голода когда персонажу нужно есть и он будет получать значительные бонусы но со временем будет голодать и терять в силе после чего умрёт если не поест, есть мутация на двойной прыжок, есть вообще очень интересная мутация работу которой я плохо понял но она даёт значительные бонусы в обмен на появление визуальных галлюцинаций и дверей способных засосать и убить игрока если он не будет способен сопротивляться их притяжению. И всё это звучит правда круто, потому-что и есть круто, но почему-то разработчику этого видимо показалось мало и вместо того чтобы в игре была пара тройка подобных мутаций на всю игру было принято решение добавить в этот уникальный автомат с мутациями временные улучшения по типу +50% высоты прыжка, +75% скорость восстановления стамины и +25% скорости на 15 минут, ну или возможность получить набор предметов в инвентарь, обычных ♥♥♥♥♥ предметов в автомате призванном разнообразить игру, ну это несерьезно даже, есть ещё возможность выбрать мутацию которая даёт падающие время от времени с неба чемоданы с лутом которые можно открывать и получать те же заурядные предметы и сказать честно это выглядит как откровенная халтура просто потому-что не редко подобные мутации (а их если что в этом автомате всего 2 варианта без возможности рерола) попадаются вместе, и ты банально выбираешь между очередным халтурным улучшением на несколько минут и набором предметов, и сказать честно после такого я вообще не особо вижу смысла продолжать забег так как это банально ничем не будет отличаться от той же демо версии, если бы я хотел поиграть в игру где нет ничего особенного я бы выбрал в главном меню режим который вообще отключает эти улучшения, но я хочу поиграть в игру где есть вариативность, и я в неё играю, но почему-то игра просто отказывается давать мне эту вариативность. Мне кажется очень хорошим решением будет добавления режима где игрок сможет настраивать безопасные зоны и например поставить себе туда несколько автоматов с существенными улучшениями чтобы создать себе уникальный игровой опыт. Ещё добавление мастерской и возможности создавать свои этапы для прохождения смогли бы изрядно оживить игру, потому-что нынешних явно не хватает а так была бы возможность добавлять карты сообщества за например упоминание или небольшое денежное вознаграждение что существенно бы упростило разработку игры. Ещё из минусов хочу отметить предметы дающиеся на выбор перед последней на данный момент локацией, есть полностью бесполезные как например телепорт с просто нелепо маленькой дальностью и очень большой перезарядкой, есть предметы сомнительной полезности как например возможность создавать сферы в воздуха за которые можно цепляться в которые будут подбрасывать если с них прыгнуть, есть предметы не помогающие особо прохождению но просто дающие интересные возможности как например часы позволяющие отмотать местонахождение игрока назад во времени (хотя мне кажется что если бы время отматывалось полностью то часы были бы куда более интересным предметом с куда большей сферой применения так как на том же последнем на данный момент этапе часто падения происходят из-за летающей жижи со страшным ебальником а не просто из-за неаккуратности, и по итогу возвращаясь во времени есть совсем не иллюзорный шанс переместиться прямо в жижу и умереть). В общем основная проблема игры в отсутствии хорошего разнообразия и возможности на это разнообразие влиять, но думаю это проблема многих рогаликов и поскольку игры ещё разрабатывается я надеюсь что она сможет прийти к чему-то на уровне римворлда, то есть стать площадкой на которой люди уже будут строить свои проекты и давать игре бесконечную реиграбельность, конец

This game scratches an itch I did not know I have. It oozes with atmosphere (sometimes literally.) And put me on the edge of my seat multiple times in a play through. Even though I still suck at the mechanics of this game, it's really apparent there's a lot of room to grow, and the mechanics are deep. A very thrilling and addicting game!

The game is just so damn fun. The core gameplay is perfect, the items are cool and interesting, the lore only gets deeper with every update, and I'm certain I've not found all the notes in the current update. My one and only criticism with this game is that it feels like it takes a very steep and noticeable increase in difficulty around the last available area. I feel like the developers have played a lot of their game and are incredibly good at it, and so balanced around what THEY felt was a challenge. I'm glad that they play their game a lot, but balance should be around the average skill of the players, not the developers.

Playing this on Linux Mint and it runs great!
The game has the oddest controls I think I have ever used but they make complete sense from a anatomy point of view, the game is difficult but fair and rewarding to get better at. So simple but really keeps you on the edge of your seat.
I wholly support anyone's decision to buy this game, try the demo and beat the demo then buy if you love the game like I did. The demo is very generous too!

Unimaginably peak game. It's not even v1.0 and it's one of the best games I've ever played.
If you are okay with horror elements and an "entry fee" of learning a new type of movement in a video game then $16 bucks is a small price for one of the most unique gameplay and visual experiences you can get on steam.

The premise is simple but the execution is complex and interesting, you move with WASD and jump with Spacebar like most games. but you use Left mouse for your left hand, and your Right mouse for your right hand for grabbing and holding onto ledges to hang or pull yourself towards whatever terrain you're grabbing.

The challenge of the game comes from the very real possibility of running out of hand stamina and falling to your death. The fall damage in the game is very generous and you have to fall very far to actually die, but for the first quarter/third-ISH of the game (or the entirety if you play the roguelike "endless" mode) there is a liquid hazard that slowly fills the level, killing you if you fall in.

After the first quarter/third of the game the primary threat comes in the form of various level and monster hazards with the roguelike and horror elements coming in full swing. there are no cheap jumpscares but the first trips through each zone can be unsettling and takes several to many tries to become fully desensitized and completely unbothered by the few monsters there are.

If you can stay determined to steadily learn the movement, the items and inventory system, as well as the various hazards, monster's behavior and weaknesses then White Knuckle is a fantastic game. Don't get discouraged! it took me several hours to become proficient in the movement and potential breakneck speed you can move in this game. After a tough but satisfying journey I have finally gotten all the steam achievements and hold a proud spot in the top 300 on the global leaderboard of Endless! It's been one hell of a ride and I'm sure I'll have to beat my best run soon to keep that high spot on the leaderboard.

11/10 game, my only possible complaint is that v.1.0 can't come soon enough and I'm chomping at the bit to tackle and be challenged by any and all new content that Dark Machine can deliver for this one of kind, undiscovered gem.

An experience that keeps you super invested even after you've played for awhile. The progression for your first time through the campaign is addicting all the way up until you beat it, always inviting you to try new things with the items and perks given. The worldbuilding is great and leaves you wanting to explore, which often is rewarded in various ways. Great game!

industrial superstructures are my favourite concept in fiction so to have it combined with horror and platforming and this grungy artstyle and presentation, i just adore it.

finally reached abyss and idk how im going to pass this but ill do my best 10/10

White Knuckle или Белые кулачки - для меня огромное открытие в мире рогаликов.
Соглашусь, кулачки подходят не всем. Для когото покажется слишком быстрым и тяжёлым, но нужно попробовать и познать д̶з̶е̶н̶ механику, а дальше все пойдет как по маслу. Достаточно напряженно и с элементами хоррора(особенно в бездне первые разы). После познания механик идет жесткий спидран и усложнения и челенджи которые ты придумываешь себе сам.
Очень рекомендую спидранерам

Unstoppable force meets immovable object: the game. The facility you navigate is punishingly difficult, and you'll have to make your way upwards through miles of it to complete the game, but the control scheme is rock solid. If you have the patience to learn the nuances of the movement and the items you encounter you'll be rewarded with an experience that is satisfying like none other. A hellish experience, in the best way.
The climbing is perfect and really has that flow and sense of control that the best parkour-style games have. The rougelike elements are pretty light - it's mostly your skill that improves from run-to-run. The setting is very atmospheric and surprisingly varied. The higher you go, the weirder it gets.
The horror is pretty unique. It has spooky monsters that want to eat you. But the real fear comes from the pressure of constantly moving up against the rising tide. And [i]then[/i] the spooky monsters show up to tip you over the edge.
There are a few issues though. The game is a bit inconsistent with giving out information. It rarely tells you what items do, and when the mass has stopped chasing you ([spoiler]Especially when reaching habitation, where it stops for good.[/spoiler]).
Overall, definitely recommend, even in early access. I'd be sad if the final region weren't released but what's here is great already.

I'm taking small breaks from Pokemon Pokopia with a good, wholesome adventure: White Knuckle!

Seriously, I didn't expect this game to be that good. Like lots of people, I discovered the niche "climbing genre" with PEAK, that I thoroughly enjoyed.

Not only WK scratches its itch, but it improves on it. The best way I could describe it would be: you forgot to take your antipsychotics, the water is rising and there's Satan in these metal pipes.

The game has a surprising depth with multiple game modes and cosmetics to unlock. In a way, it reminds me of one of my favorite games (Noita): you always lose because what you did is stupid. The game also kinda hates you. But you're lucky, because the feeling is mutual. That's why it's so good.

If you wanna know everything, I'm a woman with a bad vertigo case (I feel bad when standing up on a chair) so my initial reaction to this game was... torture. I hate, hate cockroaches too. And the game wants you to collect them. And they make noises. End my life right now please.

But as I said, there's something deeply compelling about White Knuckle. You feel proud of yourself, especially when the water is two centimetres away from you, you're holding on with your red left hand and there's an unopened can of beans in the right hand - and you gotta jump somewhere FAST. Seriously this game is fun!!

Friendship ended with wholesome climbing PEAK game - now industrial nightmare White Knuckle is my best friend.

还有那个破钢筋，你平地丢没有后坐力，挂着丢，空中丢你就有后坐力啦？我挂着往上丢钢筋，这后坐力直接给我扎水里去了，当场就死啦。10次里有3次都是这么死的，另外7次是被斜坡阴的都飞起来了，我真的好爱你啊斜坡

整个攀爬游戏弄得像STG游戏，死了要从头来，到后面你死了你想再来一次，先爬个十分二十分钟吧，这样你才能有再挑战一次的机会。但问题是，你这玩意缝了个肉鸽元素，我下一次来了，关卡都不一样了，那我不得爬到猴年马月才能把路线探完？STG都没这么恶心吧，最起码人家还有秘籍保证通关吧

Horror, Climbing, and roguelite game that is probably my favorite climbing game, white knuckle is a roguelite mainly because you unlock new content via certain accomplishments, having a perk system but the main roguelite progression feels like your own skill (or just luck). It may not look like it at first but this game has aloooot of side content other than the main campaign mainly either with the various endless modes or the event specials which are like their own mini-campaigns or you could also play the short challenge levels which remind me of neon white. The main thing with this game is that losses can feel pretty devastating even when you have saves in the area you are stuck on but if you are willing to accept the trial and error of this game, its quite a fun challenging experience.

First game that I played them demo then bought the game before finishing the demo I've played about 115 hours of it since and it hasn't disappointed so much replay ability once you beat the game and all sider versions then you get to beat it with iron knuckle and hard mode on would recommend this game to anyone. (Note I don't like parkour games and I would say this is one of the best games to come out in the last year)

An amazing game with thrilling gameplay and unique mechanics! I've encountered a few bugs here and there, but its in the early acces anyways.

I absoultely love every location, enemy, mechanic, detail of UI, secrets, lore, and the vibe of this game!

For me, a person who never played any other horror game, and overall hates them- white knuckle is an ultimate exception.

You should totally try this game! You will fall in love!

But please, never commit crimes. I regret it every single day. Poor children. Hell, poor Mother... I hope I can redeem myself from these sins, but the reality is that I cannot be forgiven.

Визуальный стиль 10/10 несмотря на детализированную но все равно ретро графику, потому что она идеально подходит игре и ее стилю и всему происходящему в ней и дает игре более страшную и жуткую атмосферу
Геймплей 10/10 хотя это и просто симулятор скалолазания но он выполнен идеально, столько предметов, усилений и возможностей есть в игре что это рождает кучу комбинаций и техник прохождения для познания которых придется потратить не мало времени и даже без предметов механика рук у персонажа просто огонь.
И саундтрек тоже 10/ 10 это как вишенка на торте хотя и треки в самой игре почему то обрезаны и для исправления этого необходимо играть с модами и их можно послушать отдельно.
Ну и лор игры вообще захватывает впрочем ради него придется поискать записки и вчитываться в статьи на вики

Впервые вижу игру с переходным жанром, сначала это игра с хоррор-эстетикой, но напряжение в ней строится на риске потери прогресса из-за редких сохранений и длинных отрезков между ними, а не на резких пугающих моментах. Потом, после прохождения и адаптации, напряжение уходит, и появляется интерес к секретам. Игра переходит в режим исследования. Исследовать тут действительно есть что: секреток много, игра поощряет нелинейное продвижение по уровням и поиск обходных путей, особенно приятно самостоятельно догадываться до сути лазеек. Когда находишь основные лазейки и тайники, можно пройти кампанию снова, но уже на хардмоде. Тогда игра возвращается к прежнему восприятию. Снова риск, переживания и напряжение.

Generally i love the idea, there is this solid universe with real mystery to uncover, the artstyle is on point and the gameplay and items are fun to use.

It is still in beta so i hope my cons i experienced will be taken care of:
- No real OST, i was hyped for soundtrack in this game through trailer but there is barely any, the ambience isnt really that scary so i hope there will be some bangers coming up
- The monsters dont have real introduction and because of that they lose their fear factor, also they are still quite buggy
- The save mechanics, oh my god, as fun as this game is, having to get up from all the way down once you all your disks, is just stupid. I suggest making campaign in chapters and wherever are save stations now, there would be beginnings of chapters player can start run from. If you'd want to keep this mechanic, at least make it a true rougelike so there is point to starting runs from scratch
- little thing but i think it NEEDS to be fixed, head bump collision after first save , the moment you jump over the gloo , i lost few saves just because of that stupid jump.

I still reccomend this game because it is really fun and worth the money. Wishing best and hoping to see more updates soon

Отлично отражается чувство того, что ты становишься лучше в игре.
суперструктура проходится за 2 часа, затем полтора, и затем ты достигаешь уровня меньше получаса, имеется кучу способов ускорить своё прохождение и стать быстрее, достаточно перков для разнообразия игры или усложнения своего пути.
И главное, бесконечный режим, где всё это добро стакается в купе с ускоряющийся массой, и особенно шустро наворачиваются круги.

Even with my low play-time as of writing this I can already tell this is a fantastic game with lots of depth and is absolutely worth any time spent playing it. I really want to fully love and enjoy this game...the only catch being that, unfortunately, I've discovered it's the first game I've ever played in my entire life that gives me terrible motion-sickness when I play it.

For context, I used to get very motion sick as a child playing my Gameboy Advance on long/bumpy car rides. I'm going on 30 now and the last time I felt motion sickness was probably about 20 years ago, and never while playing a game sitting down in my room.

Despite this I give this game my full recommendation, and I am going to try to continue playing in spite of the nausea. I'm going to tinker with my FOV settings to see if I can find the right balance that doesn't make me sick, but this point raises a bit of a dilemma for me because I feel that the aspects of the game which trigger my nausea (such as the exaggerating bobbing up and down while climbing or swinging from a handhold) are core aspects of White Knuckle's artistic appeal as a video game, both aesthetically and mechanically. I don't really have a good suggestion for a solution to this; I would love to see more motion-sickness accessibility options added to the game, but genuinely wonder how the developers could minimize the camera swaying effects without nerfing momentum -- which is a crucial aspect of the game's movement that makes it fun.

Tl;dr: I highly recommend this game, with a big asterisk for gamers with known motion-sickness issues.
