solid arpg if you like warhammer 40k and arpgs. if you only like one or the other you might want to do some further investigating on if it's worth it to you, but on sale i got the definitive edition for only $12 which is a pretty good deal.

Warhammer 40,000: Inquisitor - Martyr (WH40KI) is a solid ARPG that nails the Warhammer 40,000 atmosphere but is held back by clunky controls and poor optimization.

I thought the plot of WH40KI itself was intriguing, but didn't feel it was well executed after I completed the campaign. I reckon the story itself is the problem, but the voice acting also doesn't help make the storytelling more engaging either, especially when compared to another WH40K series like Dawn of War (DoW). There's humour in the script that fails to deliver almost every time due to the subpar voice acting. The game uses a mission-based structure, like that of real-time strategy games, instead of an actual world to explore - the issue with this is that it detracts from the traditional ARPG experience. The campaign also features these annoying third-person vehicular segments where you control a tank or Imperal Knight that is clunky and I didn't find to be fun. In general, I thought the campaign was unremarkable; but thankfully, I read that you can skip the campaign on subsequent character creations.

In terms of mechanics, the game has a cover system that adds unnecessary complexity while also failing to make the game "tactical" as was marketed. It also has one of the lamest transmog systems I've ever used and it also doesn't work well. Fortunately, the core systems on the other hand, are sufficiently deep and allows for complex build-crafting. In WH40KI, character skills (in general, not always) come from by equipped gear and there's a set of 10+ passive skill trees used in combination to define the overall build. You can reset skill trees with a significant but fixed cost (instead of getting more expensive gradually) and reallocate stats (callled "attributes") freely. You can also re-roll every stat/enchantment on a piece of gear (depending on rarity) for a fixed cost and even keep the enchantment but re-roll just for a higher value. The game gives you the freedom to make the best of your build at any stage of the game as long as you have the resources - I love this. As such, you can hold on to a piece of gear for a really long time without actually having to upgrade constantly and plays a crucial role to min-maxing late game. There are also a few other nice touches to QoL in the game like auto-loot with loot filters, and being able to customize battle info, etc.

The default control scheme is easily the game’s weakest point, requiring significant time and effort to set up comfortably. Playing with a mouse and keyboard feels noticeably worse than other ARPGs like Diablo 2 (D2) or Grim Dawn (GD) and the game feels clearly optimized for a controller or WASD movement. This is compounded by the issue that the maps (i.e. the playing field) have significant verticality in them and the camera view feels too zoomed-in even after max adjustments; there's a constant urge to rotate the camera to clear visual obstructions but the poor default control mapping for camera controls on mouse and keyboard makes doing it an awful experience. To date, I have yet to find a set up I'm completely happy with. Thankfully, controls in the game themselves are very responsive. If you're the type that likes your ARPG played with a controller, the control scheme is perfectly fine and the game even changes its UI to adapt better to controller interaction. One benefit to using a controller is that it supports vibration feedback and can help elevate the experience; however, its implementation feels spotty and some skills that feel like they should have feedback, don't. Another thing about controller, if I recall correctly, is that you can't remap individual controller buttons and can only switch between available layout presets.

The presentation is the game's greatest strength. Everything about the visual and audio design perfectly nails the atmosphere of the WH40K universe. The environments are graphically impressive and feature semi-destructibility, allowing you to blow up most cover and structures. Ability animations also look really nice and impactful. The beautiful graphics, animation and sound design all come together to carry the experience during combat, making it feel punchy and satisfying.

In terms of performance, the game is playable for the most part. However, I did find the game's optimization to be pretty poor. Even on hardware that far exceeds the recommended specs, the game can very often drop down to pathetic frame rates (varies depending on the map) to the extent of hurting gameplay. While I may not have problems completing the missions due to FPS drops, it's pretty disturbing that PC rigs with more than double the performance of the recommended specs could perform so poorly and even after 7 years since its release. Occasionally, you might also be able to spot visual artifacts for a split second. Putting aside the poor performance, at ~60 hours of game time so far, I'm surprised I've only experienced 1 crash with only a tiny loss of progress. Also, the load times are noticeably long, though I'm not entirely sure if it's due to me using HDD for storage.

One thing I think is worth noting is the implementation of Seasonal events in WH40KI and how it works - now that the game is effectively in maintenance stage. Basically, you can choose which season to play when creating a new character but that choice is permanent. That is, when you create a seasonal character, it is permanently a seasonal character with no way to convert to non-seasonal, i.e. season never ends for that character. Also, you cannot change the season of that character; you have to make a new one and start from scratch. While I can't verify, I think this may have implications if you want to share items between characters. The game also has an offline mode (which deserves praise btw) but it should be noted that seasonal content is not available in offline mode. This feels wierd but only because the point of offline mode was to future-proof server shutdowns for the preservation of the game; now that the game is considered content complete (therefore, primed for future-proofing), the seasonal content is however not made future-proof.

Despite its shortcomings, I still found WH40KI to not only be enjoyable, but is also differentiable from the other ARPG titles I've played. Putting aside my gripes with the game's control scheme, optimization and some other complaints, I found its combat and core systems fun, immersive and engaging. The late game experience can be somewhat repetitive but if you've played ARPGs before this, then it shouldn't come as a surprise - its longevity is the same as other titles with the difference being that it is mission-based (and lacks the sense of a "world" to inhibit). Considering it still has severe performance issues even after so many years, I can't recommend buying at its original asking price. Regardless, the Definitive Edition is a steal when it's on sale; it's down to 90% off and contains all DLCs except the Hierophant class. As such, I recommend getting it on sale, especially for any WH40K fan.

[b]PSA:[/b] The Hierophant is probably the most interesting class I've come across and I can't think of an equivalent in other ARPG titles. Although it's a summoner type, it's more like it has its own party of 4 followers (referred to as his/her "retinue"), with which you need to gear separately and set their individual skill tree! These 4 members comprise of the other classes in the game. As such, you might not want to play it as your first character (like I did), because you will be overwhelmed by all kinds of decisions that you have to make without prior knowledge of the other classes.

TL:DR: They just don't care, about you or this game.
I've put enough time into this that sunk cost fallacy will keep me playing for awhile longer, but the more I play this game the more I realize the devs really half-assed this whole endeavor, and makes me never want to buy any game this developer puts out in the future.
The only positive is it's a 40k ARPG, the only one I've come across. So if you really like ARPGs, and are really into 40k, those will have to be enough to keep you engaged. That's it. Now onto the negatives:
The balancing is so terrible they expect you to use "tarot cards" to adjust the balance yourself with random enemy buffs and player debuffs, which are so wildly random they can result in useless buffs/debuffs that do nothing, or ones that are so effective they turn chaff into insane bullet sponges. There's a few that increase enemy spawns, but I realized they drop so infrequently because they will tank your fps and make the ai start making really stupid decisions, like running over to a spot where you were 5 seconds ago and attacking open air. and that's with a pretty decent rig, a lot of people report missions straight up crashing which is unacceptable for any modern arpg.
Most missions are boring where they didn't have to be, in particular the procedurally generated missions for the inquisition are often totally random and nonsensical, it's easy to tell that your choices and their outcomes don't matter, choosing the same option for the same dilemma (which repeat fairly frequently) might result in a wild success or crippling of your operation, only to have the same comically grimdark outcome. Really, they're just 95% purge missions strung together with a handful of bad flavor text that one dev wrote in an afternoon (and what are purge missions? well they're like regular missions except if you happened to have missed a handful of enemies hiding in a broom closet, they will make you run aaaalllll the way back across a now empty map to kill them before letting you proceed to the next mission.)

But how do I know they actually don't care? because of a myriad of little problems that are such easy fixes that it's clear the devs either know about and don't care or barely play their own game enough to even notice. One is that tarot cards sometimes gives buffs/debuffs outside their categories, I use one that is supposed to give "damage reflect or additional enemy spawns" that sometimes gives buffs like "50% increased warp damage for enemies" does that sound like damage reflect or additional enemy spawns? No it does not. and that's as simple as making sure the tarot effects are properly sorted, something that would take 30 seconds to fix. The other is poor armor and weapon design, like assassin arm cables ending in thin air with half the weapons or every helmet clipping through the high neck guard on all militant-apostolic armor. That kind of stuff bothers me way more than other issues, because someone had to have looked at it and said "meh, good enough" when a fix would have taken literal seconds in some cases.
So yeah, save your money, buy a game like expedition 33 where the devs really care about the world they are creating, not this game where the devs probably look at me like a little pay piggy for putting in the money and time that I have already.

Quite good ARPG from the W40k universe,

As an ARPG it has lot of qualities - characters with unique abilities and gear that can be well distinguished in gameplay. Rich gear selection and combination of stats, skill trees and unique perks that allow build variety for each class. There is rich system of crafting and socketing for tune each character, prestige currencies to farm..

As for the W40k universe the main story is pretty good and captivating, characters very believable. Environment, enemies, all made quite well.

However, where the game both shines and fails are its missions - in contrast to other games of this type it does not have some large world one explore and progress.. instead almost all content in game is split into series of missions. There is several types of msisions but most revolve around killing everything or killing/destroying marked targets. Those mission are typically quite short - about 3 to 15 min and offer pure fast pace action. The problem is that in time they rightfuly feel quite repetitive.

Sure you follow your objective like doing main campaign or different serie of missions (eg. Void crusade for extra loot) but it is still about clearing same maps over and over. I also felt shortage of some memorable bosses - not that game dont contain couple enemy types including large elite or boss type enemies, but they are all quite generic, as the missions... There is simply not any Diablo as ultimate antagonist or Duriel to farm. To be fair very last mission in campaign and last mission in DLC contain unique bosses but thats about it. Just one shot and nothing to remember.

Also, difficulty is solved in its own way - there are not different game modes but instead most misisons allow be played at higher than character levels (eg. +5) bringing malus to damage done and received. On top of that there are various mission modifier that are mostly applied by "tarot cards" - mechanic that work on its own, unlocked by compelting missions in specific star systems and leveled through own prestige currency - each card than allow apply some panalty and also bonuslike better loot for the misison.

And that is what the game is mostly about - pick a mission, set modifiers and go for some quick action killing. It is captivating, it is fun, but uiltimately it can become boring. All ARPGs are about grind at end of the day and it is solid fun - but still after some 500 missions done in ~100 hours on main character I am still far from leveling cap or ultimate gear - and bit exhausted to do more missions.

Solid 7/10 game that could be perfect with some better world building. Excellent pick on good sale.

Во имя Императора и Инквизиции!
Тематическая АРПГ по Вахе 40к. Есть даже подобие сводобы мышления, когда ты можешь принять одно из двух решений: радикальное или пуританское, при несении света всяким еретикам и ксеносам.
Суть игры сводится к построению своего удобного билда и нанесения тяжелых телесных и не только повреждений различным еретикам из имперской гвардии, спасимаринам Хаоса (причем, были как последователи дедушки Нургла, так и Черный Легион), ксеносам тиранидам, эльдарам и друкхари.
Сам я, как извечный любитель делать тра-та-та-та-та, выбрал Крестоносца по специфике тяжелого вооружения, использовал во имя Императора тяжелый болтер и мульти-мельту, как самое удачное и удобное для уничтожения всего и вся оружие. Планирую по-маленьку попробовать и другие представленные классы (ассасин, псайкер и механикус), позже по скидке думаю взять Сороритас и Иерофанта.
В целом, эту игру я бы рекомендовал тем, кому после работы или в выходной испортили настроение и есть элементарное желание устроить локальное изничтожение кучи тварей на отдельно взятой локации.
По кампании, каюсь, я делал огромный перерыв в игре в целом, и не уследил соответственно за сюжетным повествованием. Но сюжет есть. Если это актуально =)

Wieder ein sehr gelungenes Spiel im 40K Universum.
Man bekommt hier ein gutes ARPG/Hack'n'Slay mit einer Auswahl an verschiedenen Klassen mit unterschiedlichen Skills und Waffen. Quests fühlen sich dafür ähnlich an und das Schnetzeln steht im Vordergrund und spart auch nicht mit Blut.
Im Endeffekt ein entspannendes "Looten & Leveln". Wobei besseres Loot vor allem später sehr große Glückssache ist.

Buen ARPG sin demasiado RPG pero con bastantes numeritos y parametros y estados. Viciante y repetitivo hasta la saciedad. El Tarot de Uther le da MUCHA CHICHA al asunto de las misiones genéricas, y tambien tienes operaciones y cruzadas que también son eventos bastante dopaminérgicos. Recomendado si te gusta Diablo o Titan Quest, pero un poco mas arcade, y la historia está guay, pero el como la han hecho es bastante bastante pesadillesca.

A highly underrated ARPG set in the Warhammer 40k universe.

It strongly reminds me of Diablo 3 but completely with it's own flavour and unique designs.
Overall gameplay is fun and engaging.
Graphics/Performance is also good for a game from 2018, with no lags, freezes or crashes etc.
The level design varies from mid to very well done.
If you ever wanted an ARPG, like Diablo, set in the Warhammer 40k universe, look no further.

Strongly recommended for Wh40k fans who likes/loves ARPG's: 10/10

Zu Beginn des Spieles lässt sich eine Story vermuten, die spannend ist. Überdies hofft man durch die vielen Gefechte, die man führt entsprechend Abwechslung zu bekommen und sich im Spiel weiterzuentwickeln. Im Großen und Ganzen kann man Inquisitor Martyr nutzen, um ein wenig abzuschalten, aber die Szenarien sind arg redundant, lohnenswerte Belohnungen erhält man auch nicht und verbesserte Waffen oder Rüstungen sind große Glückssache. Letzteres gilt auch für Missionsbelohnungen. Alles in allem wird es schnell langweilig und es kommt kein Feeling auf. Zum Zeitvertreib okay, für den Preis würde ich es nicht nochmal kaufen.

I tried Warhammer Inquisitor again, but unfortunately, I just can't get into it. I like the 40K universe and enjoy games like Darktide, Gladius, and Dawn of War, but this game feels like a horde shooter with 40K skins and very repetitive missions. It's missing the right magic, larger maps, and more mission variety. I can play Diablo 2 day and night, but this game bores me after just two hours.

Ich finde das game macht unglaublich bock, allerdings sollte man auch tiefer in die Materie jeder einzelnen Characterklasse eintauchen, da sich jede etwas anders skillt und spielen lässt. Je nachdem kann man es in dem spiel sehr gechillt angehen lassen oder auch eins auf insane-berserker-on-speed-plus-ectasy machen ... oder so. Einziges Manko für jene die Immersion mögen und eine deutsche Sprachausgabe vermissen werden ist das die Dialoge zwar untertitelt sind, leider aber nur englisch vertont sind. Wer aber eins auf Hack and Slay macht der kann die Dialoge auch einfach wegklicken und metzeln gehen.

I honestly wanted to play this game and I'll probably keep trying but the design and camera angles are so bad it's giving me a headache just to try to move.

It's like the dev said people who play Warhammer are narcissists and just want to look at their character so leave the enemy out of shot constantly.

P.S: Yes I changed offset and tried what tricks I could find online but it didn't work.

Then there's optimization where this game didn't work for me on my pc for a while and then it jittered heavily.

I'm not recommending this for design and for technical issues.

As a Diablo fan, I was aware of this game, but I put off playing it for nearly a decade. I just figured it was a 40k Diablo clone. Turns out, it is a 40k D3 clone, but it is really, really good.
I have finished all of the main and expansion story lines and loved every minute of it. If you are a 40k fan, this is definitely worth playing.

Игра имеет свои достоинства. Но имеет существенные недостатки, главные из которых это ОДНООБРАЗИЕ и бесконечный ГРИНД и ЛУТИНГ. В игре наверное больше пяти видов внутриигровой валюты (кредиты, очки судьбы, очки славы, очки влияния и т.д.). И для их получения, а без них вы например не можете получать апгрейд шмота, вы будете зачищать, зачищать и ещё раз много зачищать однообразных "подземелий", отличающихся друг от друга чисто символически. Сам шмот тоже не блещет визуальным разнообразием, отличаясь в первую очередь только характеристиками.

Игра хочет быть похожей на тот же Диабло от Близзов, но по качеству исполнения очень далёк от своего объекта подражания.
Сюжет есть, но интересен он наверное только в первой трети, потом уже теряешь к нему интерес, зачистив в его рамках пару десятков похожих локаций.

Из ПЛЮСОВ могу отметить хорошую проработку использования огнестрела в игре. Им приятно и эффективно пользоваться. Есть парочку неплохих CG-роликов по сюжету, в стиле тех же старых игр от Близзов.

Как итог, если вы играете ради сюжета и разнообразного геймплея, то проходите мимо. Если вам нравится делать десятки и сотни рейдов, что бы выбить какой-то уникальный шмот, который поможет вам в сложных рейдах выбить ещё более редкий шмот, то можете попробовать.

After many attempts and lot of frustration i figured how to make the game playable and get rid of crashes, hope i won't jinx it now. So i would recomend the game, but i highly recomend to drop the settings to minimum, turn of steam overlap for the game, play in windowed mode and change various other things which i don't even remember anymore, but try googling it. It was crazy.

一句话总结这游戏：用心做流程，用脚做优化，用雨姐的45码大汗脚做联机。

举个例子：虎哥、小亮和唐老鸭师徒三人过完教程后一起联机刷了一晚上；第二天 five 刀也开新号登舰，结果虎哥一带上 five 刀就直接接不了任务。其他两个徒弟又不愿意重练号，最后只能原地解散，改去玩别的游戏。

本人玩游戏n多年，见识过各种亚空间服务器和被混沌侵蚀的网络运营商，但因为联机机制直接给队伍强行开启大裂隙剧情的拉胯狠活，确实是头一次见。

Очень крутая игра! Настоящая Diablo 2 про космос. Игра и по графике отличная и по сюжету, красивые ролики вставки. Очень много разного оружия и вариантов билдостроения. Единственное что плохо, это отсутствие баз ВИКИ, где можно было бы посмотреть подробно про механики игры. Игра реиграбельна многократно! Всем рекомендую! 10\10.

機械召喚クラスしか進めてはいないけど途中ぐらいから面白くなった。（途中からミニオンが強くなったからかもしれない
ちゃんとみてないだけかもしれないけどパッシブスキルがどのスキルの効果をあげるかがわかりづらい（タランチュラミニオンが〜とか支援砲台が〜とかあるけど似た名前のスキルはあるけど同じ名前のスキルがなかったりしてよくわからない
同じ所が作っているらしいので機械召喚クラスのスキルがヴァンヘルシングとほぼ同じだった

Got this game to play as a chill hack and slash. Several difficulties for the missions and many different classes, abilities, and weapons ensure that it never gets boring. It can be somewhat repetitive so some people may not like it but for me, it's a really fun game to just chill on and kill some enemies. Currently playing as a psyker and it's a ton of fun to blow up enemies with an inferno staff and summon pillars of fire.
