Really great modern Point and Click Adventure game with hand drawn animation. Feels the older point and click games used to feel in some ways.
A very well-structured point-and-click with a deliriously cornball sense of humour, lovingly-crafted graphics and animation, and fun voice acting. It was clearly created with affection by people who understand the subject matter (and have an interesting position on how to render it in a film noir parody format). There are a couple of minor nitpicks with puzzle logic here and there, but the sheer fun and exuberance of the game more than compensate for it. Five stars for the climactic battle scene in particular.
The artwork is gorgeous, especially the character designs. The sort of sketch-look is fantastic, and the line-claire coloring is perfect.
The voice acting is phenomenal. I loved listening to all of the characters. The writing being witty at times really helps.
Cute story, I enjoyed that a lot.
The puzzles are not that difficult (thankfully), making it a great game to enjoy when tired.

Voodoo Detective is a solid addition to any point and click adventure library. If you were to combine Grim Fandango, Monkey Island, and Gabriel Knight into a single game, it would look a lot like Voodoo Detective. It removes some of the more obscure puzzle elements found in each of those earlier games, removes the questionable narrative elements of Gabriel Knight, and captures the feeling of the old LucasArts adventures.
Unfortunately, it is really short. I've completed the game in a little over 4 hours. It is well told and the puzzle elements are integrated well with the narrative. The characters, especially the titular detective, are fully realized. The noir setting is fun and really did remind me of Grim Fandango with a veneer of Monkey Island. I think more puzzles, more locations, and more lore would have helped this game a lot. It was developed by a small studio, so I can't really hold that against them.
If you are okay paying for a well-crafted 4-5 hour experience, it's worth the investment. It is groundbreaking in one specific way: the locations are all designed and intended to provide as little time-wasting as possible. There aren't the random wanderings around maps or pixel hunting for clues. If you read the spell manual you receive, most of the puzzles sort of fall into place. You can't accidentally use an item that is required later in the game, soft-locking your progress (I'm looking at you, King's Quest.)
Give it a shot. You'll have fun.
Voodoo Detective is an excellent modern Point & Click game. Its art direction, voiceover work, and cheek-laced writing are all superb. Fairly short, but it doesn't feel abridged. I would absolutely recommend this to anyone looking for a P&C adventure/mystery.

What sets this point and click apart from other games of the same genre is how voodoo is used. Thinking about Monkey Island, we see how voodoo influences the gameplay and the narrative. Voodoo Detective is different in the sense that this element is the center of the game (as the title implies). Whether it is the gameplay, the story or the cultural context, you can't escape Voodoo. This game offers a deeper and more refined representation of Voodoo, making it an ideal product to explore this rich culture.
As such, everything in this game is well made (gameplay, story etc.) but I also wish to express my satisfaction of the voice acting which has enhanced my immersion of this excellent game.
Classic point and click adventure format. good graphic and humor. good for light casual play. The puzzles are relatively easy to solve and main character gives plenty of hints using puns and humor to guide players along if you get stuck.
The art style is superb. Voice acting very good. Story is engaging. A point and click game well worth your time.

An enjoyable little indie adventure game debut! Classic point and click. Not top-tier level, like other classic adventure games, but definitely good enough to start and finish within one or two weekends. Its focus on your next objectives are always quite clear. Some moments will leave you puzzled but the solutions are mostly right within your reach. Beautiful artwork and enough witty moments to make you chuckle. The game also has a music score made by Peter McConnell (Grim Fandango, Monkey Island, Psychonauts, etc.), which is a big win for the overall atmosphere of the game. I enjoyed it and I look forward to a second game from this studio.

I'm an avid fan of Point and Clicks and really enjoyed Voodoo Detective. The artwork was beautiful, the animation flawless and so were the voice acting and the sound ambiance.
I would recommend this game for a first experience in Point and Click, for the puzzles are not very challenging and clues are very obviously given.

Short but nice point and click adventure. It really takes you back to the 90s. Buy it!
I enjoy a good noir game, and this one doesn't disappoint. The voodoo just adds to its charm. In fact, you can combine items to create "spells" to affect the environment and characters. The story itself is a fun throwback to the old school hardboiled detective stories with a healthy dose of spirituality sprinkled in. Any fan of point-and-click adventure games with a good mixture of Tex Murphy and Gabriel Knight 1 elements should find something to like here.

TLDR: Great game, great atmosphere and a true audio visual treat reminiscent of the classics in the genre very partially marred by some obtuse UI choices (emphasis on VERY partially marred)
Overall it was really pleasant experience and was a fun light-hearted caper with some heavier subtext and subject matter, but would fit right in with a classic Agatha Christie "whodunnit".
I thought the art direction (Art Deco influenced Tropical Getaways and Locations) and animation paired with Peter McConnell's score and the excellent voice acting made it a real audio visual treat.
There was only one puzzle I thought didn't really click or make sense for me even after beating it, but I feel like that's par-for-the-course with the genre.
Overall it was exactly the kind of chill interactive story that you think of when playing a classic point-and-click adventure game.
My only other critique would be some clunky inventory controls/options and keeping everything on a left mouse click made some of the item use on background elements a little clunky. I think I would have preferred the old drag and drop from an active inventory to the elements on the Background I wanted to test the item on would have felt more intuitive/saved some time toggling between menus, but I'm nitpicking here.
I'd definitely recommend to anyone who's a fan of the old Lucas Arts point-and-click adventures or anyone looking for a fun weekend game to escape to!

I loved this game! First of all, the art is beautiful, and the setting is so well-depicted. The humor is witty, plenty of play-on-words and some delightful fourth-wall breaking to lighten the tutorial. The story was well done in my opinion and kept me engaged. I couldn't put this game down and finished it in a few sittings. Puzzles weren't challenging, great interaction with the different scenes presented. I really enjoyed this one
A nice point and click adventure experience! It nails the Lucas Arts games and Monkey Island vibe perfectly with it's art and humor.
I wouldn't say it's too hard by adventure game standards, completable in just a few hours, but some of the puzzles might stump you if your not willing to try everything. The game does give you hints, so if you pay close attention to what it's telling you, you can usually figure out what to do.
Unfortunately I got stuck a few times due the answer requiring me to interact with it in an obtuse way. An example is instead of using the item on a world object like a lot of the games puzzles, I had to inspect the item and then interact with the world object normally. Something that just snuck it's way through testing.
Still, I never needed a guide, and these moments were few and far between. The overall experience is one of well crafted quality. If you're looking for an old school, relaxing, and fun game, Voodoo Detective has you covered! An easy recommendation!

Loved this, the hand-drawn style graphics remind me of Monkey Island 3. Great soundtrack too. I love recipe puzzles, and there's lots of them. There are multiple endings, but I've only played once so far so not sure how many.
Minor points, there's no manual saves or achievements.
Hopefully there will be more games from this series and publisher.

Pero vamos, notable aventura para pasar un gran rato. Y gran trabajo de traducción de los chicos de abandonsocios con el parche de español.

A really nice game for a person like me that grew playing things like Monkey Island, Broken Sword, Simon the Sorcerer etc. It hits the nostalgic spot just fine. A cute little game with impressive art and a music that I could have as background while I try to focus doing something else. Except for a couple of puzzles that aren't that obvious, you won't find really big issues playing it and like every good adventure, it has the comic part too.
I really did enjoy this one, it's a bit short but still I'm glad I got it.

This is not a bad game but a couple of things made it not a great game, for me. Others may enjoy the parts that I disliked and I do recommend you try the game out.
I love that it is point and click. I liked the visuals, location and little bit of story that there was.
I did not like that it only autosaves - no manual saving. I did not like the dying. You will receive a "game over" but when you "reload" you are right back where you were - no need to replay the game as one other reviewer makes it sound. I didn't think this went along with the peaceful island experience. I absolutely did not like the battle towards the end which did not seem to go with the Voodoo story line at all. Why, why, why??? There must me some other way, though I admit, I am not creative enough to say how.

This is such a nice adventure game, although it's quite short and maybe a bit too easy. It has all the right components: great visuals, interesting story, a bit of humor, logical puzzles. There's no moon logic, I never needed to use a walk through. Some puzzles got me stuck but not for long.
I was really enjoying this game. The writing is good. So is the humor. The music is nice. The voice acting is good. Everything was going well until, all of a sudden, BOSS BATTLE! No warning about maybe you want to save the game here. No idea of how anything works in the battle with Victor. His gun can basically one-shot you. Since I didn't know how to fight effectively, Voodoo Detective died and the game ended. My last save was several hours ago. Nothing else in the game gave me a reason to save constantly. I am not going to go back and replay those hours again just to try and get past this boss battle. The game should at least autosave before the battle since this is totally different from the rest of the game and the player has no idea what is going on here without reading a walkthrough. I hate it when cerebral puzzle-solving games all of a sudden become twitch games. This just really ticks me off.

Despite being the studio's first game, Voodoo Detective shows none of the rough edges that you might expect - a smooth and engaging experience with clever puzzles intricately woven in to the lore and story telling, set against a backdrop of beautiful hand-drawn artwork and elevated by a funny script and clever writing.
One of the most delightful and accomplished point and click detective games of the current generation. Strong recommend.

This game was a pleasant surprise. If you like point-and-click adventures like "Curse of Monkey Island," this game is very much in the same spirit. it has first rate dialogue, animations and voice acting -- the developers clearly put a lot of effort into this one. The puzzles aren't particularly difficult, but they're challenging enough to engage your interest. It took me about six hours to complete, and I used a walkthrough only a handful of times. There's an action sequence in the finale, but it requires more brains than reflexes to win the battle. In short, an underrated gem, and I hope to see more adventure games from this developer. 8/10.

Voodoo Detective is a game about avoiding talking with tourists. Which, as an introvert, I can relate to very much. But really, Voodoo Detective is an excellent point-and-click adventure game with fun puzzles, excellent art, stellar voice acting, and an interesting setting. It is not a full adventure game, but then again, the price point does reflect that.
As for the negatives, not all the puzzles make that much sense. I had to consult the guide for a couple of times, which is less than most adventure games, but still noticeable. Maybe part of the genre.
Overall, I enjoyed my time with Voodoo Detective and would recommend it to any fan of the adventure game genre. It is not perfect, but it is almost there. 5/5

A good, short game that can be completed in 6 hours or less. The plot is good, and the dialogue is smart as a whip and funny. The mysteries are fun, though I had to check a walkthrough a couple of times and had concluded after checking that I would not have guessed that. The illustrations are beautiful and the voice acting is a really nice touch.
I'm an avid point and click gamer, and have been since I was a kid. Monkey Island 2 was my first game, so I have been a bit biased (and critical) about the genre ever since. I usually rank them in my mind based on a few criteria, such as: art direction, charm, puzzle ingenuity, and dialogue. Out of 10, I would rank them accordingly as: 7, 6, 2, and 4.
The charm and art direction is what powered me through this game, as the dialogue and puzzle ingenuity are lacking. There are times where the solution to a puzzle is so far removed from what makes sense, that it just doesn't hit right. Such as a time where [spoiler] Voodoo claims that a golden toilet handle you've stolen looks "good enough to eat" (What? Who would say that...), with zero context or inside humor, and the solution is to eat it; and the only reason that makes any sense at all is because you need to hide it, and he wants to eat it. [/spoiler], and plenty of the points of progression come from places that don't really blend with the story or dialogue, but feel like filler. You may even find the detective asking questions he isn't supposed to KNOW he's supposed to ask yet.
The dialogue is a noir-style, snappy come-back, witty-banter type, with some solid one-liners from time to time. However, the substance of the dialogue is lacking charm (which may be a side effect of the noir style), and more importantly: the dialogue trees are infuriating, making the conversations inadvertently seems stiff and forced. A good example of this is when you are trying to leave a conversation, but first have to crawl back OUT of the tree to get there. It basically ends with something like: "Enough about so-and-so --> I have another question for you --> Ok, be seein' ya". This was an artifact of old point and click that was quickly replaced with more fluid convo trees back in the late 90's. It shouldn't be this bad in a modern point and click.
TL;DR: VD is a beautiful game, with stunted potential in dialogue, and out-of-context puzzle solutions.
P.S. I used hints ONCE for a particularly egregious out-of-context puzzle.

I really enjoyed this game. The art style and the dialogues, especially the humor, really caught my attention. While I found a few puzzles challenging, most were quite engaging. The storyline was both entertaining and captivating. This game is a point-and-click type where you have to combine items in your inventory, in contrast to others where you simply interact with them without collecting anything.
A legit fun detective game. Great visuals, good writing, solid puzzles, excelent music and voice acting... the list goes on! The emphasis on respecting Voodoo from a religious, historic and cultural perspective deserves to be praised too.
Very cool game! It is fun, the scenario is great and the graphic style is beautiful!
Must play, only about 3 hours long but very fun, enjoyed the art style and the characters.
It's a fun little game, easily playable well within 6 hours (my playtime went to 4 hours). It is, for the most part, pretty forgiving ([spoiler]with the exception to the last chapter, where you have to stay ahead of the antagonist to not die[/spoiler]). And the humour, writing and voice-acting is pretty top-notch.

A fun little game. It's got it all for a good detective game, dames, puzzles & voodoo shenanigans. a solid 9/10.
Great Adventure! Clearly a nod towards Monkey Island but also a more respectful respresentation of the Voodoo culture. Looking forward to a sequel, if they ever make one!
It's a nice adventure, not really too hard, but at least one or two puzzles (close to each other) where annoying.
The graphics are great, the voice acting is also of high quality.
But I whished they had a few more using items puzzles, as it has a lot of dialog.
I picked it up in a sale and it is certainly worth the money then.
Hope they'll do a sequel or something.
This game is pretty good. I'd say it's around a 6.5 to 7 of 10, and very worth it if you like point and clicks. If you're iffy on point and clicks, grab it on sale.
It's short and sweet. Ultimately, that's fine, but I can't help but feel like it got scaled way down. My only other complaint is some jarring tonal shifts. It's mostly a wacky and lighthearted comedy, but it will sometimes veer in to very dark territory without much warning.
As for the positives, the voice acting is good, the art style and animation is great, and for the most part the pacing is really well done for a point and click. The Voodoo stuff is cool. I actually learned quite a bit about the religion, and nothing presented ever felt cringey or exploitative.
Not fun enough to recommend and the story is nothing special.
There are better detective games and better point n click games out there.

Voodoo Detective ist ein echtes Kleinod, absolut empfehlenswert.
Sehr hübsch, stilvoll und stimmungsvoll, spannendes Setting, gute Story, interessante Charaktere, faire Rätsel. So muss ein Point&Click heutzutage aussehen. Einziger Kritikpunkt: Es ist zu kurz, ich will mehr Voodoo Detective!
loved the puzzles and the story was amazing. it was over too soon
Great looking adventure with in an enchanting tropical atmosphere. The story is engaging and at least most of the puzzles make sense. The writing is a bit hit and miss for me... didn't care much for the characters and the humor, but it's not that bad and maybe just down to preference.
All in all I can recommend this game to any point and click adventure enjoyer.
I really recommend playing Voodoo Detective if you're looking for a fun point-and-click mystery. The dialogue was cleverly written and very well delivered by the voice actors. I loved the hand-drawn art and the music. The puzzles were engaging as well, even though they weren't too difficult to solve. Only downside is that the story is pretty short - I finished the game in just under 5 hours. Otherwise, it was a treat to play! :)
This game is addictive and if I had the time I would have finished it all in one sitting! I love the hand drawn art style and the voice acting. The humour is witty and keeps you on your toes. I can't get enough!
Voodoo Detective has so much soul, and I mostly regret not playing it before now.
Very much an old-fashioned AG, but not in a bad way (tho the fuse puzzle gets an honorable Broken Sword goat award)

A very satisfying game to play ... great voice acting ... beautiful music .... loved the art work ... and a very rich story from beginning to the end ... was not able to stop playing until I finished it ... for a point and click game its a 9/10 recommend
Absolutely wonderful game! Everything about it was amazing - the music, the animation, the jokes, the voodoo! I would highly recommend this game, and I'm desperately hoping they'll consider making another!
