Introdução perfeita ao universo para quem nunca encostou em World of Darkness e uma ótima visual novel no geral. A arte é muito bonita, os personagens são extremamente interessantes e, principalmente, a narrativa é brilhante. So, let's get a few of the obvious things out of the way: this is an interactive novel, not a video game like Vampire Bloodlines, so obviously keep that in mind. Now, I have played some great interactive novel 'games' - Tell Tale had some excellent Borderlands ones. Unfortunately, this game is nowhere near that level of quality.

Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York does a good job of setting the tone of the World of Darkness. You are a fledgling, a nobody, and you are stuck under the heel of immortal monsters who are not going to give you any power, and they will never retire, and never die. So that sense of "yeah, you're a vampire and can kick the crap out of mortals, but your new reality is pretty grim" perfectly encapsulates the "World of Darkness." However, it's mostly a novel, so it is only as good as the writing and the plot....

I give this a solid C+, maybe a B- in places. The ending was goofy, and you seem to not have enough time to do all the side quests, so not sure how that is supposed to work. You also never get the answers to some pretty major questions that they set up in the beginning (who is your Sire, what's your Clan - well, you know your Clan because you picked it, but the character ends the game not knowing what they are or hooking up with their people). So that seemed to be quite a let down, to me.

If you are a fan of Vampire: the Masquerade, this will absolutely hold your interest for the 5-6 hours of gameplay. It did not make me want to replay it, but it did make me miss my gaming group from back in the day. So, I'm appreciative of the nostalgia dopamine hit.

Il finale mi ha lasciata a fissare lo schermo chiedendomi "ok, e allora?"
Il gioco flirta con tante belle idee a livello narrativo, ma le tronca di netto quasi subito. Le scelte che prendi non hanno praticamente alcuna influenza sulla storia e il finale è solo uno, se togliamo i finali anticipati per morti accidentali varie.
Un gran peccato, anche perchè a livello artistico e di soundtrack è molto interessante, ma sembra il primo capitolo di un gioco che avrebbe dovuto essere ben più ampio.

Найти нынче человека, который шарит за Мир ТЬмы, куда сложнее, чем вампира, соблюдающего Маскарад. А потому новеллы VtM для меня, вовеки вечные, — чистая отдушина, а Coteries of New York в линейке — бриллиант.

Новелла позволяет рассмотреть сюжет с трёх разных сторон, от лиц представителей трёх вампирских кланов: Бруха, Тореадор и Вентру. Откровенно говоря, детективная часть была для меня где-то на десятом плане, ведь я по Маскараду в целом готова схавать что угодно... И тут была крайне приятно удивлена, поскольку история читалась на одном дыхании, и вовсе не только из-за сеттинга. То, как описан сам мир, задаёт истории верный темп и атмосферу, расследование затягивает с головой, а персонажи (даже неигровые) прописаны настолько сочно, что я до сих пор помню их всех по именам, кланам и сюжетной ветке (обычно, когда дело касается npc, я их только на лица запоминаю, и то - пока нахожусь в процессе прохождения). Кадиру так вообще отдала своё сердце, даже не раздумывала! Да, его по-настоящему "звёздный час" будет только в следующей части (shadows of new york), но... Уфф. Девочки, ну вы понимаааете. ♥‿♥

Что ещё мне особенно понравилось — игра не кидает тебя в омут с головой, она крайне последовательна в повествовании, вне зависимости от выбранного персонажа, и щедро снабжает игрока примечаниями, пояснениями по лору, поэтому даже для тех, кто о Маскараде впервые слышит и искал просто какую-нибудь красивую "визуалку" про вампиров, вникнуть в курс дела и с кайфом почитать совсем не будет проблемой — Миру Тьмы уж точно стоит дать шанс, не пожалеете.

I'm sorry, but I can't recommend this game.

I don't have high expectations for a visual novel, but it failed on the key ones I think one should have.

* I found hard to make any logical sense of the plots.
* The game didn't offer me choices where I wanted to intervene, offered them to me where I didn't care, and many times I could not find the choice I would take.
* Sometimes, the game contradicted the choice I took, asuming I took a different path.
* In general, my options to affect the story were very little.
* The main plot doesn't make any sense if you think at it for half a minute.

Even if you receive this product for free (which I didn't) I don't think it's worth your time.

i bought this game because i love consuming vampire-related content, even if it's not exactly high quality.

my first playthrough took ~7 hours, and here's what i can say: this visual novel doesn't really want you to replay it, even tho it has 3 protagonists and a limited number of quests you can complete in a single run. there's no dialogue skip button and you can't save at anytime (i mean, you can save and quit, but what about multiple save files?), that's espeacially painful for those who want to unlock all the achievements.

speaking of the game itself... the ending is questionable. it feels like it cuts off mid-sentence, as if the devs ran out of time to finish the story. the plot feels rushed, and interesting characters don't get the development they deserve. that said, i did enjoy the visual style. the locations look great, even if they do repeat from time to time.

i recommend buying the game on sale, and only if you’re into vampires or interested in the world of darkness lore (tho the second kinda implies the first).

又是个没sire的fledgling开头，但是这里跟vtmb比更加加重了主角的“棋子感”

除了开头能死，往后就只有一个标准结局，选项基本没影响，纯RP效果，算是从一个新的纽约fledgling的角度来看新时代科技发展下的vtm，也更偏向展示权力暗流和丑恶一面的Camarilla&Anarch，[spoiler]厌女又种族歧视的Anarch老白男结果Camarilla王子的狗，又是Camarilla控制Anarch的手段，前面还要在所有人面前装一下，就是为了最后铲除异己，我是你的棋子你又是谁的棋子。重新看开头就会发现开头就暗示了，一直都是蓝眼男的游戏[/spoiler]

7/10，音乐美术氛围到位，注意包含厌女表达，可惜和倒霉MC突然就变成吸血鬼一样，这里突然就结尾了 [spoiler]真就纯跑腿小妹/弟，路人视角呗 [/spoiler]
我感觉最好还是看英语，中文读起来没啥味道，烂烂的（开头选人连氏族名字啊没有怎么回事
nosferatu还是一如既往的可爱，嘿嘿，Qadir也好可爱

蛮适合作为vtm入门作的，比vtmb更加深入吸血鬼社会，很多名词各种方面也都有解释

Чудова візуальна новелла по всесвіту маскараду. Коротенька але завдяки тому, що дають декілька персонажів на старті гри та ігровому таймеру [spoiler] («О боже, я ж їх не люблю» ! Не переживайте, він органічно вбудований в гру і це ніяк не вплине на отримання задволення від гри) [/spoiler] за який у тебе не вийде пройти всі сюжетні арки, гра цікава для перепроходження. У мене з першим проходженням вийшло подружитись з 2 вампірами з 6(?) і цього було достатньо.

В підсумку хочу сказати що гра варта уваги (по повній ціні чи по знижці це вже у кого скільки грошей) і я з радістю перерпройду гру для цілісної картини сюжета

Diferente de [i]Shadows of New York[/i] — que joguei anteriormente —, [i]Coteries of New York[/i] foi o primeiro jogo lançado dentro dessa proposta de visual novel no universo de [i]Vampiro: A Máscara[/i].

E, sinceramente, eu achei a mecânica dele mais interessante.

Pretty solid visual novel that teaches you a lot of the core ideas and terminology involved in the actual tabletop game. Fits into the choose-your-own-adventure style gameplay rather than more complex Japanese VNs but still does a good job giving you options to play with. Play this one before playing Shadows of New York. You can enjoy Shadows without it, but it provides a lot of cool backstory for characters you'll see again. I actually enjoyed this one more than Shadows. The art was much better, in my opinion. And the conversation choices felt more natural.

Долгая завязка. Лора явно побольше насыпали, нежели в недавно вышедшем недоразумении. Разницы в выборе персонажа почти нет и выглядит всё это ещё одной попыткой растянуть реиграбельность, тем более и так для ознакомления со всеми доступными вурдалаками котерии понадобится перепрохождение.

В целом, пойдёт, но точно не за фулпрайс.

It's definitely the weakest entry in the small series it belongs to, and sadly needed to give context to the other two definitely stronger entries. The three different protagonists feel shallow, discipline mechanics feel limited in their use and the lack of any dice mechanics from a game that is inspired by a ttrpg, well... it's lacking. The cast is solid, and overall the mood is a great introduction to show newbies the universe of vampire the masquerade. For veteran fans, not much here is new and the ending can feel poorly done. I'd skip it at full price, and just treat it as an epilogue to Shadows, the following entry (that is really worth playing). That being said: you should play it for Sophie. What a queen.

That being said I though the story was interesting for what it was, but if you're not already a fan of the World of Darkness I think you should go somewhere else for an introduction to it.

Честно, сложно поставить игре что то большее , чем "нейтрально".
Арт и звук приятные, но сюжет, особенно тот факт, что все арки пройти нереально за один заход скорее огорчил. Концовка и вовсе выглядит как резкий рояль из кустов, пусть и на узы крови, как концепт намекали в тексте.
Но этот финальный монолог, прямо кринж. Плюс Софи как персонаж, как то вообще не сработал лично для меня.
При этом начало было довольно интригующим, и примерно до финала было интересно, куда ведут сюжетные арки.
Палец вниз ставить не буду, но берите без особых ожиданий

I have a lot of thoughts on this game and World of Darkness in general so expect this review to be a little bit waffle-y. Vampire: The Masquerade is at its core a game of personal horror - that's the original tagline of the TTRPG. You are a monster cursed to never truly connect with humankind again and walk the path of Caine - on top of that, vampire society is nothing but lies and backstabbing over and over again in an endless pursuit of power that is ultimately meaningless as you will always be a pawn in someone else's game. [spoiler]Thomas Arturo[/spoiler]sums this up very well: "You thought that being an expert chess player would always be enough. You never realized the people at the top simply flip the chessboard over and punch you in the face whenever they don't like how the game is going."

This is why I do not fault the game like many other people who played it and thought [spoiler]"But wait, there's only the one real ending? But what about my choices? They didn't even matter!"[/spoiler]"But wait, there's only the one real ending? But what about my choices? They didn't even matter!" because that's the point. Your choices don't matter because you are nothing and will be chewed up and spat out by everybody else. Granted I think that's a very fair criticism to have with a game. It's really annoying when an ending is such a downer like that despite your best efforts.

In the World of Darkness though? In Vampire: The Masquerade? The game of personal horror? It fits. It just fits.

TL;DR: This game served as my introduction into the World of Darkness setting, and it's a very solid one for that. Get it when it's on sale and view it more like a novel than a game.

What you're getting here is a visual novel that places you in the role of a newly turned Vampire. You're introduced to this secret society you never knew existed with power games that take place over decades and centuries, and you have only a few weeks to figure it all out.

It's not a totally faithful adaptation of the Vampire The Masquerade rules, but that's not the important part here. This game has got the atmosphere of the setting down, the soundtrack is suitably moody and dark, the characters feel like monsters trying to cling onto the humanity they no longer have (or in some cases embrace the inner monster inside of them), and the art style feels grimy in the best way possible.

Now, the issue I have with this game is the lack of any real choice. You are a very small player in a very, very large world, and you will feel powerless and unimpactful many times. While this is by design, it doesn't make for the most satisfying experience if you come into this thinking you have a lot of autonomy or say in the ending you get. The choices you make are fairly minor and don't impact the ending much if at all.

That being said, this game does an excellent job at making you understand what it's like to be newly "Embraced" into Kindred society, and just how out of your depth you really are. From here I played Vampire The Masquerade Bloodlines which is in my top 5 RPGs of all time now. I've gotten the rules and started running the TTRPG for a few friends because of how interesting the world felt.

So from the perspective of "baby's first World of Darkness game", I recommend it. BUT, get it when it's on sale! The game is short and aside from meeting different characters, there isn't much value in replayability.

This is a weird game... You have to be simultaneously a VN fan who can handle a lot of reading, and familiar with the VTM lore (or be very, very openminded) to enjoy it.

The game is not an RPG, it's more like a choose your own adventure story.

For what it's worth, I liked it. The game gets the modern gothic vibe so right, the urban atmosphere is done so well, and all of the characters are interesting without being annoying or one note.

This is what I would recommend for anyone interested in testing out what the VtM world is like. Excellent introduction to the Camarilla, the lingo, the clans, the powers, etc.
Thoroughly enjoyable throughout and a dope ending that has given me all sorts of inspiration for my ttrpg games.

玩到结局前我还能对游戏的整体水平打个4分美术世界观以及一些场景和文化的塑造还过得去
结局实在过于仓促我玩的时候甚至只推了两个好友的线甚至没结束就退完了很多选项看上去有区别其实选出来大差不差而且结局索菲是必死反派利用主角搞死索菲也交代的莫名其妙总体来说是个不错的游戏但是玩的出来成本有限内容有限喜欢这个ip或者单纯想尝尝鲜的还是可以玩玩的但别抱什么期待中规中矩

There's enough here to sink your teeth into.

I had low expectations and they were exceeded. I was new to this genre when I got this, so my observations are probably pretty obvious to others, but the art and music really help set and maintain a tone you wouldn't ordinarily get. It's surprisingly effective how just a looping animation & atmospheric sounds bring you into the story.

I know RPG isn't among the tags for this, because it really isn't one, but the story leaves enough space for you as a protagonist to digest the story beats as the character you're making select choices for.

The game doesn't have any expectations you're familiar with the tabletop, so it maintains a helpful glossary that grows through the story to feed you information in a non-intrusive way organically as the narrative unfolds.

I'd recommend this and I'd even go as far as to say it's worth snatching up the soundtrack if you're into setting background mood music while studying or entertaining guests.

My only criticism is I sort of wish there were more of this caliber. I think the story is just the right length, so I don't necessarily mean longer. Voice acting may have helped enhance the experience.

Coteries of New York was a bloody good time.

C'était sympa, je découvre l'univers avec ce jeu et malgré que j'ai adoré l'ambiance, la fin me laisse un peu sur ma faim... Déjà pas mal de coquilles (ou alors je ne sais plus lire) dans la traduction, ce qui rend certaines phrases un peu étranges, voire incompréhensibles (mais c'est peut-être moi). Ensuite, le fait que nos choix n'aient pas d'impact sur la fin du jeu. De ce que j'ai compris, peu importe qui on joue et comment on le/la joue, la fin sera la même, ce qui me désole. Et aussi le fait que même si je passais mon temps à me nourrir, le jeu me mettait en boucle le message sur la bête, qu'il fallait absolument que je boive, etc... Alors que je venais tout juste de me nourrir.
Mais, tout le reste (les dessins, l'ambiance, la musique, les manigances, les personnages) m'a embarqué et j'ai beaucoup aimé ! Je jouerais aux autres avec plaisir.

Ispirato direttamente alla 5ª Edizione del gioco da tavolo, ci proietta in una New York notturna nei panni di un vampiro "illegale", abbracciato senza il permesso della Camarilla; con un Sire ignoto e la condanna a morte che pende sulla nostra testa, ci ritroviamo catapultati in un intrigo politico dove la sopravvivenza non è affatto scontata.

L'avventura offre una base narrativa solida e d'impatto: il vero pregio risiede nelle scelte del giocatore che, a differenza di altri titoli simili, hanno un peso reale sullo sviluppo della storia e non si limitano a opzioni di dialogo trascurabili. Pur non essendo un capolavoro assoluto, il gioco brilla per atmosfera e fedeltà al World of Darkness. Un valore aggiunto fondamentale per noi è la presenza della lingua italiana, caratteristica purtroppo unica all'interno di questa (almeno per ora) trilogia. Se amate le atmosfere del Mondo di Tenebra e cercate un'esperienza narrativa coinvolgente, vale assolutamente il prezzo del biglietto.

Coteries of New York is not your typical rpg. It's more like an old school pick your story-line text. While the overall story doesn't go deeply into the different lines and the entirety of the Masquerade, it is well written and your choices matter. Choices can get you killed or can limit your available actions in the future. If you're someone like me though who goes for every achievement, this game will turn into just a lot of readied clicks.

If you've ever wanted to live out a scene from Interview with the Vampire, but with more bureaucracy, this is your visual novel. The atmosphere is pure 90s goth-punk noir, dripping with style. You get to make choices that shape your fledgling vampire's allegiances, which feels like being in a political drama, but with more fangs and clan rivalries. it's a slow-burn, dialogue-heavy experience where the real combat is with words a solid win.

Coteries of New York is the first in a trilogy of visual novels from Draw Distance that concludes with Reckoning of New York. And it serves rather well as a players first entry to the World of Darkness setting. As a new Vampire you will have the basics explained to you, but the game won't stop just to give you a full lore-dump. The glossary system to help you follow anything you might be unfamiliar with too.

There's three characters to choose from, but they all play out very much the same, with a few lines of unique dialogue, or a special quest. So your playthrough really comes down to your choices. And again, there are only so many of those. The big ones being which quests you follow with your limited time. This will decide who your allies are, and who won't come to your side when the poo-poo hits the fan.

Overall, it's a good time. Doesn't overstay its welcome and has just enough content to justify three playthroughs, even if you'll be skipping through some dialogue by the third.

Единственная моя претензия по отношению к этой игре - ее недоделанность. В процессе прохождения за все 3 клана сложилось стойкое впечатление, что разработчиков торопили с выходом игры и те в конечном итоге не успели ее доделать. Как будто бы не хватает элементов, чтобы все связать между собой. Концовка, честно сказать, огорчила. Слишком сухо и быстро все произошло.
Я думаю, если бы у разработчиков было больше времени, что из данной новеллы вышло что-то еще более крутое. Но несмотря на то, что мы имеем, очарования своего она не лишена. Визуальных стиль, музыка, лор персонажей - все шикарно. Я влюблен в нее, несмотря на имеющуюся горечь, которая несколько омрачила ее прохождение. Я рекомендую, очень рекомендую всем, кто мало-мальски заинтересован в мире тьмы и вампирах. Игра стоит своих денег, я остался, так или иначе, доволен.
Игры прошел на 100% ачивок. Теперь меня ждут Тени Нью-Йорка. Надеюсь, не разочаруют, ну или хотя бы порадуют больше, чем одной концовкой. (Не надо мне говорить про концовки в начале игры, она филерные и никакого веса для лора не несут)
В целом мое умозаключение на этом все. Стоит ли на нее тратить время? Однозначно да.

For those who came here from the second game just to get an idea.
This sequel explains so well about the vampire factions it gives a lot of content, assist you to understand the foundations of the game and history of the how they are created.
It is a charismatic type of game play (RPG) and the player can see the and feel the weight of the decisions they make, through out it.
The ending is kinda shocking.

Great game. I had played Redemption and Bloodlines before this, but I didn't know what to expect since this is a visual novel, not an RPG hybrid, and I had never played a visual novel before. It was very immersive, in some ways, more immersive than the first two games because of the writing. To me, it seems that every line of text, whether representing what a character said (no voice acting) or telling me (the game player as the character I was playing) what to do or feel, was very refined and crafted, and this had a big emotional impact.

And all the background scenes were gorgeous and appropriate to whatever was going on in the story, and the music was excellent and very relevant. Some was tuneful and some was ambient, but it all felt totally related to each scene and worked well with the backgrounds.

Strongly recommended.

I love the world of Vampire, so I am biased. That being said, this game was, in a word, okay. The story was decent but the plot was too short and the themes weren't really developed. There were many very interesting subplots but these too didn't really get developed. The allies out of which you construct your coterie don't have much relevance to the broader story line--the coterie idea was almost an afterthought, a means of simply adding additional content. Some of the ally plot lines and themes were very interesting and could have even been developed into a game unto themselves, but, again, suffered from lack of exposition and exploration. The choices you could make did not really feel impactful and neither did their consequences. The prose were...fine, I guess, but I admit to a very high standard for this. The ending was not entirely satisfying, but, given my bias, I still enjoyed it enough for the price to recommend it, particularly given the high likelihood that others' here are coming from a similar appreciation of the VtM universe.

I genuinely enjoyed Vampire: The Masquerade - Coteries of New York. This game shines in a few key areas that make it worth playing for fans of the setting. The artwork is fantastic, capturing the dark, moody atmosphere of the Vampire: The Masquerade universe perfectly. Crucially, the characters are well-written; they are complex, memorable, and the best part of the experience. The overall story is engaging, featuring good twists and turns that kept me hooked from beginning to end. However, the narrative can feel a bit rushed and disjointed at times. It felt like some major plot points needed more time to breathe, which occasionally made the progression feel a little abrupt. Despite the pacing issues, the strong writing, phenomenal art, and stellar character work make this an enjoyable and engaging visual novel set in the Big Apple.

Очень подробно разжёвывается нынешнее положение вещей в Маскараде Вампиров. Квестов в игре много, но к сожалению мы ограничены временными рамками, поэтому если распыляться на всё подряд, то можно не успеть закончить дела перед началом финального замеса. Он начинается очень бодро и интригующе, но концовка... Это просто ♥♥♥♥♥♥. Я ставлю негативный отзыв исключительно из-за концовки. Хуже я еще ничего в этой жизни не видел, это самая большая тупость на свете. Не рекомендую к покупке, берите в зелёном магазине эту чушь собачью.
Алсо, в тексте иногда встречаются ошибки и нет возможности произвольно сохраняться. Игру не перепроходил, но другие отзывы говорят, что на концовку выборы вообще не влияют и я им охотно верю. Еще раз повторюсь, что концовка... это просто жесть...
