In USC: Counterforce players are tasked with leading a group of Space Commandos in turn-based squad tactics combat inspired by the likes of UFO/XCOM, Space Hulk, and Aliens. The players’ commandos have been sent to a planetary body to investigate and take down a powerful alien threat. Players must discover the truth behind the demise of the planet’s colony and plan an efficient strategy to protect humanity from this threat. I went in with no knowledge about this game. I just got hooked by the fact it's supposed to be turnbased and looked pretty nice,
It's pretty straight forward in the tutorial and when you hit the real game you are in for a ride of pain :)
It took me almost 3 hours to complete the first mission. But it sure was rewarding. But try it out at easiest difficulty first not at hard like i did.
I really like the game and I will continue to play it.
Recommended if you are a true turnbased nut and doesn't mind some ass-wopping on the way to glory.

Unfinished and abandon by the developer left with bugs and empty promises. Another Steam Early Access Failure. But of course, there isn't a tag on this game that it's abandon, even after a post in the steam forums of the game by the developer stating it's no longer being supported. This title came out of early access unfinished, and was almost instantly abandon.

6.5/10 XCom-like TBS in space

TLDR: the game is for the uber-hardcore TBS nerds, though much of its difficulty comes from cluttered UI design and poor onboarding. Visuals are polished yet the top-down perspective is just a unfortunate choice. Patient players might still want to check it out at a discount

Good:
+ it has the XCom/JA2 formula at its heart
+ pretty UI graphics
+ very nice music
+ a lot of small interesting stuff like pushing/pulling objects, fully destructible environments, jumping over poison puddles
+ if you like complexity, it's a very complex game - if only this complexity was introduced gradually and not all at once

So-so:
+/- the story is too verbose. Just to start the first mission, there is a whole Zoom call with half a dozen characters involved. And nothing interesting is actually said. I mean, we hate that already at our jobs, so games should not try to replicate that. The game desperately needs humor or some kind of life to it. But no, it's just too serious about itself, and you can even see it from the guy on the game's Steam banner. So serious! You don't mess with this guy!
+/- the tutorial is long and detailed. The white arrow pointing where to click should be animated because it's often hard to locate it. Still, much of the tutorial is just text, and you forget most of it later. The amount of stuff this game has to teach is just way too much. Instead, the game should have introduced its mechanics more gradually. As it is now, you go thru a whole academy and then, in the very first mission of a campaign, face the whole game's complexity like an impenetrable wall. That's not how even hardcore games should be designed
+/- attacks have very small action point cost, so in some cases a character can perform 7-8 precise shots with a sniper rifle in a single turn! Cmon, that's just unrealistic. Also, the enemies are usually bullet sponges.
+/- weapons have geometry-based range patterns instead of a circle. So, often an enemy is just 3 tiles away but you can't shoot at it! The only other game where I saw this was Gorky 17, and it was a rather simple RPG-TBS with only 3, sometimes 4 characters in your team. This system doesn't fit the uber-detailed XCom-like simulation here...
+/- it's often hard to see which tiles are passable and which aren't, where your soldier can see and walk. There are 3D terrain objects used here but they don't match the tiles all that obviously, also due to dynamic 3D lighting. Maybe this game should have been 2D, with clear pixel graphics
+/- while walking, characters have annoying micro-delays at every tile while moving

Bad:
- top-down view is pretty bad. In fact, I can't recall any successful TBS game with such a view. Even Jagged Alliance 1 had it slightly from the side. Dune 2 was an RTS game almost without infantry, and already C&C and Wacraft 1/2 had units shown at a slight angle. Battle Isle - didn't have humans, just tanks. Templar Battleforce - a bad mobile game that no one should want to copy... With the top-down view, soldiers feel anonymous, too much alike (can't even tell females from males). Soldiers get visually lost in the surrounding gray-ish ground. Small aliens similarly look like gray blobs, with little character to them (big ones are okay). There are boxes that you can shoot over and those that you can't - the difference is impossible to see from above. All this would require a proper 3/4 view angle. Just imagine how crappy JA2 or Fallout 1/2 would look and play in this top-down presentation!
- the UI is designed according to the principle "show max amount of stuff possible that the screen space allows". This results is complexity akin to that of controlling a nuclear reactor. The irony is, most of the data shown on the screen you don't even need most of the time. For example, the whole contents of a character's inventory are shown at the bottom as if at a quick action panel (but what is ammo then doing in the quick action panel?). Stats of shots of a weapon are always shown (should have been visible only when you're targeting a weapon). Character stats like resistances and front/rear armor could all go into a character info dialog that you'd bring up with a right click. Tooltips are incredibly long and pile in just about everything possibly related to the thing - to the point that you just don't want to read them
- inventory management is counter-intuitive. E.g. to load ammo into a weapon, the most natural way is to drag the ammo item over a gun. But here it's right clicks on buttons. It seems that the dev found out that players were confused in the playtests, so they have those "right-click to equip, _THEN_ right click to load ammo" sentences revealing their frustration with player stupidity. Just don't re-invent obvious designs that have been tested over decades... Put up a ragdoll with slots and a backpack, and it would all be obvious to anyone who played an RPG game before, and the tutorial would shrink a bit
- there is a 3D overlay that shows the "1st person view of the selected character" - carries no information and only adds clutter
- no tutorial for base management / room construction (I found an encyclopedia article on it hours after I've kinda figured it out thru trial and error)
- can't order soldiers to swap places. Which is kinda important cuz most maps are very tight here, and your melee soldier can span in a back row inside an elevator for example
- there is a huge encyclopedia, even with videos, that explains many things. But in my first battle I couldn't find an answer to the simple question: how can poison be cured? Can it be? One article says soldiers can "heal themselves". How? I spent all medkits yet the soldiers were still dying. Encyclopedia needs a "search" function like the one in Civ 5. Though again, I'm pretty sure that with a tighter design about 30% of those explanations would not be needed at all

X-COMの様なマイクロマネジメントが必要なストラテジー

古い方のX-COMが好きでマイクロマネジメントの面倒さに耐えられる人ならば楽しめるかと思います。
評価の悪さに納得できる一方、戦闘が面白いので惜しいなと感じます。

戦闘システムと高めの難易度は、かなり良いです。
AP制の戦闘や装備の管理も結構好きです。
簡略化しすぎて物足りないものよりも、きめ細かく管理できる方が好きなので楽しめました。
多くの人には受け入れられないけど、好きな人はとことん好きみたいな印象を受けます。

評価が悪くなった理由は、面倒・時間が掛かる・何をやったらいいか分からない、辺りなのだと思います。
3時間かかるミッションばっかりだったりするので、時間が掛かって面倒って部分は、どうしようなく辛いけど。
キャンペーンやミッションなどをもう少し改良すれば良いゲームになったと思います。
クリア扱いになるまで遊びましたが、これで終わりなのかという内容でした。
ストーリーを読まなかったのもあり、釈然としない気持ちになりました。

いきなり24名の隊員を管理するなど、面倒な面も多く時間が掛かります。
はじめて小隊管理画面を見た時は、なんて面倒くさそうなんだと思ってしまいました。
1ミッションでも時間が掛かるので、キャンペーンを1回クリアするだけでも一苦労です。
行動次第かもしれませんが、ターン数制限は短い模様です。

戦闘以外の要素の完成度は、粗が目立つ感じ。
基地建設は、作って壊しての繰り返しで、効率よく稼げる方法が分かれば深みを感じられません。
独立のモードでも遊べたりマルチプレイも出来たりと色々広げ過ぎなのかもしれません。

研究開発などは、簡略されて寂しいです。
一応、武器のアップグレードを改良出来ますが、X-COMなどの研究開発と比べると楽しさに欠けます。
これも稼ぎ方が分かってしまえばすぐに終わります。

武器のプロトタイプの方は、ランダムで性能が向上するみたいでとても面白いです。
ベースの武器が弱くても凶悪な兵器に化ける可能性があります。

隊員の成長要素も少し寂しい感じです。
ポイントを割り振って能力を決めるのですが、必須のものとそうでないのが直ぐに分かってしまうと思います。
そのおかげで役割が決まってしまい途中から方針転換など出来ません。
効率を考えると武器のカテゴリを使い分けるなども出来ないですし。

操作は、ショートカットキーがしっかりと設定されていて快適です。
ただ、アイテムの管理は、選択してから決定みたいな2段階なのでちょっと引っかかりますが。

PC環境が原因かもしれませんが、マップが広いと重くなります。
ただ、オプションでエフェクトなどを切れば大分軽くなります。

[h2]# 難易度[/h2]

戦闘の難易度は、高めです。
敵は、40～60体と基本的にこちらより多く、数で押して来ます。
多いのですが、攻撃力自体は高くなく攻撃されても直ぐに死ぬ事はほとんどありません。
そのため、こちらの攻撃を外しても即座に危険にならないので、命中率に悩まされるって感じではありません。
その一方で、厄介な能力でこちらをじわじわと削ってきます。
出血・毒・酸・爆発・炎上など。
HPにダメージを受ける事は多いですが、回復する余裕が取れる事も多いです。
出撃の度にゴミの様に隊員が死んでいくゲームとは違います。
やり直しの為のロードをあまりしなかったので遊びやすかったです。

ミッションによっては、敵が一斉に向かってきます。
この時に対処を間違えると大損害を受けます。
緊張感を感じられてとても良いです。
正面の敵に手一杯なのに横や後ろからも攻められる事もあってたまりません。ｳﾋｮ
多数の敵を撃退できた時は、爽快です。

[h2]# マニュアル[/h2]

チュートリアルとマニュアルはしっかりしています。
調べる気になれば良く分からない仕様は無くなると思います。
一方で、敵の情報の見方が載っていないので良く分からなかったりします。

ただ、キャンペーンの説明に若干不備があります。
基地を作る必要があるのですが、どうやって作れば良いか分からなかったです。
Defend the Baseを遊ぶか、マニュアルを読めば何とかなると思いますが。

[h2]# ミッション[/h2]

1フェーズ1時間以上で2～3フェーズに分かれているものもあります。
入念な準備が必要だったりと面白さに繋がっている面も有りますが、やっぱり大変で疲れてしまいます。
便利な装備を忘れたり、弾薬が足りなくなると泣きをみます。
長期戦になるので、隊員がじわじわと消耗していき、焦燥感を感じられるのは良いです。

ちょっと気になるのは、マップが暗くてどこが壁なのか良く分からない事です。
分かりやすいように強調表示などが欲しかったです。

任務は、細かい違いはもっとありますが、敵の殲滅と指定地点の到達に分けられます。
殲滅の方が、文字通り敵の全滅で終了です。
最後の数匹で終了するので酷い仕様ではないですが、場合によっては敵が見つからずに時間が掛かる事があります。
壁に囲まれた場所に敵が配置されたりもします。
センサーは持っていきましょう。

指定地点への到達は、隊員1体ずつ脱出させないといけないので手間が掛かります。

[h2]# ゲームモード[/h2]

- Campaign
- Single Mission
- Operations
- Defend the Base!

Single MissionやOperationsは、決められた任務を達成したら終わる単発戦闘のモード。
Single Missionは、キャンペーンのランダム戦闘を遊ぶ感じ。
Operationsは、特別な目標が設定されたイベント戦闘を遊ぶ感じ。

どのモードも部隊の編成が必要。
キャンペーンは、毎回編成が必要。
それ以外のモードは、編成を保存でき、次回以降遊びやすくなります。

編成時に選べるアイテムは、クリアした時のスコアに基づいてアンロックされる形式です。
この形式は、全体的に時間が掛かるゲームなので辛いと思ってしまいます。

[h2]## Defense the Base[/h2]

基地を作り守るモード。
指定された量の資源を採掘できれば勝利。
建設と防衛フェーズに分かれていて、建設フェーズで採掘施設や補給などを行う。
防衛フェーズは、他のモードと同じ戦闘になる。
弾薬などの物資の補給は、建設フェーズで注文して防衛フェーズで受け取る。

あまり完成度が高いと思いません。
キャンペーン以外で独立して遊べるようになっている為に、補給のルールがちぐはぐな印象を受けます。
キャンペーン中でも基地防衛時に補給を受け取れるために悪さも出来る(出来た?)ようです。

やる事の流れとしては、

1. 資源を得られる地形にHarvesterを設置
2. Harvesterを動かすためのGeneratorを設置
3. 余裕があれば、Refineryなどを設置して採掘量を増やす
4. 防衛の必要があるならばベッドやタレットなどの各種防衛施設を建設する

となります。

Generatorなどは、部屋に設置しないといけません。
部屋は、

- 床を敷き詰める
- 壁で囲む
- 1つの扉を設置する

を満たす必要がある。

[h2]## Campaign[/h2]

基地を作り勢力圏を広げて星を支配するモード。
ざっくりとした流れとしては、

- 基地を作って収入源を確保する
- エイリアンが攻めてくるので防衛する
- 部隊を送ってエリアを確保したり、敵を排除する

などを繰り返して進行していきます。
実際には、基地を作らなくても問題ないようですが。

始めにどの勢力に所属するか選びます。
自勢力からの名声(renown)が高いと収入が増えるので、自勢力に受けが良い行動を取る必要があります。
といっても取れる行動は、ほとんどありませんが。

以下のゲージを維持出来れば勝利な様です。

- Intelligence: エリアをスキャンなどで上昇
- Control: 基地を作ったり、部隊の派遣で上昇
- Threat: 敵の排除で下がる?

ワールドマップは、へクスに分かれていてそこに、

- 基地の建設・管理
- 部隊の派遣
- エリアのスキャン(Sector scans)
- 核爆弾(Nuclear Warheads)を落とす

が出来る。
また、部隊の編成と外交も行える。

基地は、スキャン済みで建築可能な地形のエリアに建築可能。
採掘できる資源に限りがあり、作った基地は壊して他のエリアに移す事になります。
初めて設置する段階では、壊しても全額返ってくるので試行錯誤しても問題ないです。
ただ、設置してしばらくたつと全額は戻らなくなります。
1つの基地をずっと守る方が良かったし、面倒でもなかったと思いますが。

基地を作るとエイリアンが攻めてくることがある。
何もしないと基地で迎撃になる。
先に部隊を派遣して攻撃を阻止する事も出来る。

1ターンに(Mission Time Phase(MPs))に1回だけ部隊の派遣が可能。
送ったエリアによって任務の内容が変わる。

スキャンをするとそのエリアの情報が手に入る
スキャンは、1ターンに1回復し、3まで溜めらる。
エリアの情報が十分でないと、エイリアンの活動を察知できない事もあるようです。

エリアに核爆弾を落とすとエイリアンを消し去ることが出来る。
落とされたエリアは、汚染され基地が建設不能の地形になる。

[h2]### 資源[/h2]

資源は、他の資源へ変換可能。

- Requisition Credit

店(USCF)でアイテムを買う時に使用。
自勢力からのRenownに応じて貰える。
序盤は、資金に余裕が無く思うような装備が組めないのがもどかしいです。

- Resource Point

基地建設で使用。
時間経過で増えない。
増やすには、他の資源から変換する。

- Deothonit:

主に取引で使う貴重な資源。
基地の採掘能力に応じて得られる。

- Crafting Materials

アイテムの作成やアップグレードで使用
資源の変換、取引、アイテムの解体で入手するしかないようです。

[h2]### Communications[/h2]

他の勢力と取引。
主にDeothonitを使って武器のプロトタイプやアップグレードなどを得る。
取引した勢力とは仲が良くなり、それ以外とは仲が悪くなるようです。

最大3小隊
1小隊6人
控えの人数に制限があるは不明。

[h2]## 隊員[/h2]

名前などの情報はいつでも編集可能。
顔グラフィックは、入隊時のみ変更出来るみたい。
残念ながらカスタムポートレートは、設定できないみたい。

キャンペーンの隊員は、戦績が細かく記憶されていく。
また、戦績に応じて勲章が貰えて能力が微増する。
勲章は、2種類だけの模様。
とても寂しい。

[h2]### パラメータ[/h2]

- HP
- Moral:
低くなりすぎるとPanicやBerserkになり操作不能になる。
基本ダメージを受けると減っていく
- Armor: Front/Rear:
詳細不明ながらダメージ軽減に役立つみたい。

各隊員のインベントリは、10個。
内訳は、以下のようになっている。

- 武器2個
- 弾薬2個
- 汎用5個
- 制限1個: 使用するアイテム専用

[h2]### 武器[/h2]

- small: APコストが低めで扱いやすい。SMG, Shotgun, Assult rifle, Sniper rifle等
- heavy: APコストが高め。状態異常や範囲攻撃が多め。Minigun, Grenade launcher, Flamethrower, CryoBlaster等

資金が許すならば特定の武器を使うと思いますが、どの武器も特徴があり面白いです。
コストが掛かるのも特徴ですが。

[h2]#### Upgrades[/h2]

武器には、Slotが3つあり、その分だけUpgradeを付けられる。
キャンペーンなどは、このアップグレードの質を上げる事で武器を強化していく感じ。
武器自体の基本性能が上がったPrototypeも作れるようにもなる。

[h2]#### Ammunition[/h2]

同じ武器でも使用弾薬によって攻撃力などが多少変化する。
例えば、Armor penetrationが上がるが攻撃力が下がるなど。
特殊弾の方が強いけれども、値段が高くなるので中々手を出せない。

[h2]#### Attack mode[/h2]

モードに応じて、発砲数や使用APが変わる。
例えば、Minigunの場合は、範囲攻撃になるScatterと、1体を狙うFocused Fireがある。

[h2]#### Range[/h2]

最小射程と最大射程が設定されていてその距離にしか攻撃できない。

[h2]#### Pattern[/h2]

どの位置に発砲出来るかがこれで決まる。
Starの場合、隊員の上下斜め方向の直線状の敵にしか発砲出来ない。
例えば、斜め上の敵を攻撃する場合は、同じ列に移動して軸を合わせないと攻撃できない事になる。
Ranged Overwatchが発動する場合は、任意の位置の発砲が出来たりするけど。

このPatternは、ゲーム開始時の設定でほぼ無効にも出来ます。
一部の強力な攻撃などは、Patternが固定です。

[h2]## スキル[/h2]

9分野あり、それぞれ5レベルある。
大まかに以下のようになっている。

- Endurance: HP
- Agility: AP
- Mental conditioning: Moral
- Melee combat: Melee weapon
- Marksmanship: Small weapon
- Heavy arms: Heavy weapon
- Field expertise: 押す/引く、グレーネードの投擲などの雑多なアクション使用
- Electrotechnics: Electrotechnics系のアイテム使用
- Biochemistry: Biochemistry系のアイテム使用

32スキルポイントを割り振れる。(32/45)
リセット何時でも出来る。

スキルは、それぞれ1つずつ、

- Primary Specialization
- Secondary Specialization

に設定できる。
スキルに応じてボーナスが変わる。

[h2]# Stash[/h2]

Stashは、一見するとが小さいですが、Stockする事で店の在庫になります。
これは、後で無料で引き出せます。

[h2]# 戦闘[/h2]

隊員は、APの分だけ行動できる。
大体40～60程度。
複数回攻撃できるなど結構融通が効いて良い感じ。

視界が設定されており、視界内の敵しか発見できない。
正面90度で距離10。
向きを変えるのにAPは消費しない。

取れる行動は、以下の様なものがある。

- 攻撃:

装備してる武器のAttack Modeによって使用APが変わる。
大体5～10程度消費する。

- 移動

1マス2～3消費。

- ジャンプ: 障害物やダメージ地形を飛び越すのに使う
- しゃがむ

後ろにいる立っている隊員の射線を遮らない。
若干、命中率と回避率にボーナスが掛かる模様。
しゃがんだまま移動するとAPコストが+1される。

- インタラクト
- オブジェクトを押す・引く
- ハッキング
- ドアを開ける
- アイテムの使用
- Defense Mode

射撃武器を持ってDefense Modeになると、Ranged Overwatchが発動する。
Ranged Overwatchになると射線内に入った敵を可能ならば射撃する。
格闘武器の場合は、残りAPに応じてMelee Defense Valueが上がる。

[h2]## Friendly Fire Lock[/h2]

攻撃する時に味方にダメージを与える恐れがある場合は、発砲が出来ない。
これは、自発的に攻撃する時や、Ranged Overwatchで自動発砲する時に適用される。
ロック中でも命中率が低くて外れた弾に当たる事はある。
解除すれば、味方を巻き込む攻撃も出来るようになる。

[h2]# オブジェクト[/h2]

大部分のオブジェクトは、破壊可能。
押したり引いたりも出来る。
このため、押して通路を作ったり、壁を壊して侵入なども行う事が出来る。
逆に敵に壁を壊されて側面を突かれるなんて事も起こったりします。
そのまま隊員の半数以上が燃やされて壊滅させられた事もあります。ﾏｿﾞｸﾃﾀﾏﾘﾏｾﾝ

床に所々存在するハッチから敵が出現する可能性がある。
ハッチを溶接する事でそれを防ぐ事が出来る。

ドアは、開閉可能。
また、溶接で閉じたり焼き切ったりも出来る。
脱出ミッションで敵を相手してられない時に閉じると楽に脱出出来たりします。
溶接機も役立ちます。

マスに炎や酸が残る事がある。
このマスに入ると影響を受ける。
これが結構厄介でかなり戦いを制限されます。
時間経過で消えるようですが、基本的にジャンプなどを駆使して避ける事になります。

宇宙船から脱出するミッションでは、ハッチが解放されてしまうと、空気が無くなっていきます。
空気が無くなってもダメージは受けないようですが、隊員が徐々に凍えていきます。
また、発砲音も消え、炎が付かなくなります。
緊張感を感じられる非常に面白い演出と思いました。

[h2]# 耐性と状態異常[/h2]

属性付きの攻撃を受けると数値が溜まっていき状態異常の効果が表れる。

- Armor: ダメージ軽減に役立つのだと思う
- Tranquilization/Paralysis: 徐々にAP使用コストが上がり最終的に行動不能になる
- Acid: アーマーを削る。アーマーが無くなるとHPダメージを受ける
- Cryo: HPにダメージを受ける。APコストが上がり命中率が下がる。十分に凍ったユニットに強い衝撃などを与えるとSHATTEREDが発生して即死
- Knockback/Impact: ノックバックする事がある。影響を受けるとターン開始時のAPが減る
- Fire: HPにダメージ
- Poison: HPにダメージ。効果が重なると、回復が半減、APコストが上がる、APが減る等が起こる
- Shadow energy: HPにダメージ。APコストが上がる

[h2]## Combo[/h2]

燃えているユニットに酸を掛ける(逆も)と火が強まる。

凍った敵に、強い衝撃を与えるとSHATTEREDが発生して即死する。
凍ったユニットを燃やす事でも発生するみたい。
