This is the sequel to one of my favorite games.

Overall, the game plays well and the controls feel solid. It’s definitely enjoyable on a basic gameplay level.

However, I felt like this game has lost a lot of what made the first game special.

There’s much less focus on the boomerangs. While there are still different types, most of them are available in the shop right from the start. This removes the sense of progression and achievement from the first game, where unlocking new boomerangs through missions allowed you to access new areas.

The characters also have far less presence this time around. Their personalities — which were a big part of what made the first game so charming — barely get any attention here.

I also missed the cozy outback feeling that the first game captured so well. Back then, every mission had its own unique flair and was memorable. In this sequel, the areas feel more generic and interchangeable, and the missions themselves often come across as repetitive and somewhat bland.

On the technical side, the game ran well on the Steam Deck.

Compared to the first game, this one is definitely weaker.

Still, it’s a good game overall, and if you like Ty, I can absolutely recommend giving it a try.

A cozy and casual "B-tier" platformer, used to play this a lot on my PS2 back in the day, though I would prefer something like Ratchet & Clank 1-3, it still kinda held a special place as a fun and charming game to return to every now and then, TY2 might be the closest to those in terms of gameplay and progression, especially with all the unique boomerang types you can get (explosive one being an obvious winner)

Has a great soundtrack, hub world full of secrets and collectibles and fun characters all over the town/explorable areas.

If you love 3D platformers of any kind, this is definitely one worth trying, and honestly I wouldnt mind seeing a modern sequel of it some day too.

some of the changes this game made from the first are sorta to its detriment (replacing a compact, on-foot hub level with an open world where you drive to different levels / having a heavier focus on mini-games), but it's still a lovely time regardless
the addition of Hardcore Mode is interesting, with it being permadeath, but ultimately with a bit of care, it's not too much harder than Normal

That stone beetle is so cheap its not even funny. play for hours just to get one shot by that thing before i can even move just because the game feels like it. or somehow survive the beetle to get glitched into the lava on boss cass. brutal.

I've gotten about 65% through, and I feel confident in my judgment on this. Ty 1, love it. This, Ty 2, is not good. It's not awful, which is where a lot of my problem comes from. It's mediocre, and consistently mediocre. It lacks any sort of depth for anything.

The collectibles are just, meh, with most of them offering 2 things:
1. Customization options (like skins for Ty or the vehicle), or
2. Maps that point out the collectibles.
3. Photos for concept art (and that count toward 100% completion) these were in Ty 1, and feel exactly the same, but I think they're a new addition for these remasters and weren't in the originals (may be wrong though).
So... they don't offer much. They're not used to open up parts of the game, buy powerups, or anything of the sort.

Opals, a collectible in Ty 1, but now just a currency (from defeating enemies, crates, exploring, quest/arena rewards), are sad to collect. They're sad, abundant, and easy to collect. There are also opal bags, which contain between 5 to 3000 (maybe more?) opals. Again... collecting even a 1000 opal bag is useless since these things are SO EASY to get. It takes away any fun from gathering opals, because it's not difficult, and they're everywhere. Which leads to the next two problems:

Vehicles (submarine and lava mech), are bought with opals, which again, offers no challenge.

Boomerangs, are all bought with opals. Which again... offers no challenge. Some of the rangs you buy from Sly are expensive, but they're just slightly upgraded rangs you get from the normal rang shop, so they're not critical. Some/most levels require some boomerangs to grab collectibles, which is silly, since it feels more like levels aren't designed around the rangs, rather there's just small spots to open with a smasharang, or teleport rang. Which, means most of these areas are similar and boring. They're mainly a small spot with a cog you open from a smasharang, or a spider hovel you open up with a flamarang. I have yet to even really use the zaparang, the teleport/latch(rope) rang is used in a few spots but it's just so repetitive.

The races and vehicle overworld is terrible. The overworld for the vehicle is just long, tedious to travel, and empty. Sure, an enemy vehicle turns up every so often but... why? They can be ignored, they can be easily taken out, and they just drop a dozen opals...

There a weird helicopter/submarine mini-games, which honestly are terrible as well. They offer no challenge, they can be tedious, you can't move the camera, enemies are either non-existant or offer no challenge, and it's almost impossible to die or mess them up, and they normally consist of either fly here, or fly around and pick up 6 things and drop them off at a drop point.

Some levels, compared to Ty 1, are also huge BUT empty, again, partially an issue with the collectibles. If it's not an issue with size, it's challenge. Half the puzzles/zones can just be skipped, cheesed, or bypassed to get the cog/chrome orb or whatever. A few times I just jumped to a platform and grabbed the cog when there was a few other platforms you were "supposed" to use. There's an "obstacle" course in Sulphur springs that you can skip half of with a glide... it's just... badly designed.

So... I think the overall feeling is that this game has a lot of breadth, but absolutely no depth and no character, for anything that it does. The things it changed from Ty 1 were changed for the wrong reasons (opals being collectibles, rangs being unlocked by collectibles/boss battles). The story is mixed in with random quests, that honestly just pop up (you do them, help someone, then cool... you're done...) barely any of the side quests are even related to the main story/villain.

The voice acting, is awful, in the parts it's not awful it's cringy, where it's not either it's actually entertaining because of how bad and weird it is. Steve, is the strangest and somehow best part of this game, and that sums up a lot.

It's just... a solid 4/10. It's not so bad, it's not broken, it's not hard to play, it's not interesting, it's not fun.

Don't let my low hour count fool you. I played this game as a kid and I can 100% say this port is almost exactly like how I remember it. Just with a few extras like new skins and a photo mode.

I think Ty 2 is where the series really came into its own, Ty 1 feels like nothing more than a shallow collectathon. But Ty 2 experimented with new mechanics and an open world structure that give it a very unique feel. Vehicles provide a nice bit of verity where previously all we had was basic platforming and simplified combat. Now we got submarines, turret sections, four by fours and battle 'mechs.

The open world is nice, yeah its a little on the small side but it despite its size the entire thing is packed with personality and charm. It's more than a big open field with lots of collectables. You can really feel the real life locations the developers called on when designing Burramudgee and the Southern Rivers area.

I might be nostalgia blind, but I can easily recommend this game to anyone who played it as a kid, young gamers, or anyone who just wants a cozy little indie game.

Simple game from my childhood that I saw was ported to steam one day on sale and I decided to buy and revisit.

- Excellent platforming.
- Charming characters.
- Large variety of boomerangs both for combat and unique navigational challenges.
- Decent mission variety including piloting various vehicles.
- Iconic music.
- Literally like 2 GB in size.
- Lots of collectibles.
- Takes around 10 hours to 100% the game.
- Goes on sale for like $3.
- Mostly very well-optimized port. Frill Neck Forest causes some fps drops and that was the only performance hiccup in the entire game.

- Not really much of a story here. Game as a whole feels very short and lacking.
- Hardcore mode?? Why is this a thing? This isn't a combat-focused game and it only serves to force a second+ playthrough and redo everything again. It's unfortunately required to get all the steam achievements.
- No support for advanced resolutions, playing on a 1920x1200 monitor causes letterboxing.

Obviously playing this game when I'm 15+ years older than the kid I was when I first played it on the ps2, isn't going to be as entertaining. But if you're new to platformers or want a simple classic game with no fuss or stress, you will very likely enjoy this.

I remember having fond memories of this game, but those should've stayed as memories. The game feels rushed. The story doesn't make sense and introduces elements that don't go hand in hand with what we learn later on. The ending happens so fast and everything that happened before this had no impact. Most of the rangs are essentially useless, as they are not required for platforming nor combat. Typical to PS2 era games, this one introduces gimmicks. This time they are robots. You use each one maximum 3 times and they all suck. The basic robot is smash square, the next one is a snooze fest where you walk around slowly and pick up objects. one robot allows you to go under lava, which is essentially just slower swimming. The game is filled with the same minigame where you drive either a helicopter or submarine. They both work exactly the same and are the most mind-numbingly tedious missions to do. Instead of having beautiful levels with platforming and cool Australian scenery like the first game, the player is forced to drive a car on a small map to waste your time to enter a small and often poorly designed area with nothing interesting going on.

All-in-all this is a notable downgrade from the first game that remains a classic. Bush rescue was the second entry to the series and where we can already see the downfall that is about to happen to the series. The art style, music, atmosphere and nostalgia are keeping this game afloat. So no I wouldn't recommend this game to everyone to try. But if you yearn for simpler times, maybe want to feel like a giddy child for a moment and ignore the flaws and enjoy a cool looking game, go ahead.

Ok now that I have finished the game let me start by saying this has been the 2nd worst platformer/collectathon I have played/tried.

Nothing really is much better here than probably boomerang mechanics and graphics than Ty 1.
Everything else is such a downgrade in my opinion that it is insane why they chose these decisions...Maybe they tried copying Jak 2's edgy game sense or they came up with similar ideas due to it being the "In" thing at the time,but my god they failed horrendously to make a fun game.

They ruined levels and added in Heli and bunnyip missions which makes literally every level/mission of this game the absolute worst level in other platformers.

I will say two good things about this game it is short and respects your time. And it got me to chuckle at Bunnyip envy.

Definetly don't recommend for fans of collectathon and platformers as this game doesn't give you the itch of wanting to collect anything and that is from the straight beginning of the game with that awful opening.

Pra mim um downgrade enorme em comparação ao TY 1.
Como vc coloca um sistema de mundo aberto sem fast travel? Os menus parecem que foram feitos no Flash Player e até os itens parecem que foram mal desenhados.

O que tem de bom são a trilha sonora e a variedade de armas, mas é tudo tão mal feito que sei lá... perdeu o brilho do antecessor.

Como esse jogo tem tanta recomendação positiva? Eu realmente não sei, vai ver o problema sou eu.
Eu gosto de muitos jogos "ruins", mas esse aqui só é sem graça.

Had this on my PS2 growing up, got on Switch and on Steam as well. I have very fond memories of this game growing up, this and the very first Ty. Both are outstanding games and were ahead of their time. If you want a good taste of games from the older days, this is one of them. Highly recommend it.

A really charming game. Not gonna blow your mind with the platforming but it has a lot of character and I had a great time with it. If you're a sucker for PS2 era games, this is a must play!

Well I must say this game, pushing through the first hours of exploration after the prologue, was indeed very interesting, even if it felt too sparse and almost too empty like the first half of the world Snow Worries in the first Ty game for at least the 30% of this semi open world and missions. Also the bosses were more interesting than most of the ones from the first game, so that also kept me going. And the mechs were all cool and all with their own interesting mechanics. At first non bosses enemies felt more meh than the first game, but going forward they were consistent enough and had some interesting situations even in this game. So, from my point of view, I think the emptier part of exploration is compensated by the bosses and the mechs, making Ty 1 and 2 equally cool and interesting platformers in their own different ways

Very close to how I remember it as a kid. Nostalgia definitely helps make this game better but it's still charming on it's own. You have to keep in mind that this game was released by a small studio who just had a surprise break away hit and now they're trying to keep it going in an era of gaming marked by HUGE technical leaps. They added everything they could to be competitive and new. At the time, it was incredible.
There are issues with volume going in and out, some glitches, and other stuff you'd expect from an early 2000's game but they're not new problems. I kept having runtime errors on my PC but playing on steam deck I've had no issues at all.
If you can like this game for what it is I can't recommend it highly enough. Just don't expect a modern game.

Played the Gamecube version when I was kid. Loved every minute then as I do now. The multirang back then was super fast and fun to mess about with. The quests are fun and all the collectin is always a joy. Always wanted to pilot Sly's Gunyip during the final level. The lifter bunyip never had enough to do though. It needs more love. Thermo bunyip and battle bunyip gets the most love though and it's seen a lot thru the game. Boss fights are a joy and the addition of a hardcore mode is wonderful too. The added two rangs are cool even if they don't have much use other than photo mode and trappin frills with some popsicle sticks. Hey Krome! is you're readin this, can ya allow us some workshop support so we can make custom levels or mods for the game for added replayability? Would love to see the continued support on the game with hopes for another game in the future.

I never played TY 2 as a kid, only the original. This game was a lot of fun still but its a big change from the original. The gameplay and exploration is expanded and it's great, but it feels like the original had more character to me. Could be nostalgia but I think the original felt more like exploring the Australian wild and the sequel feels more like exploring the world of TY. Better sequel than most games get. If you liked the original its worth playing.

While not as good as the first game, Ty 2 is still very fun. What makes Ty 2 less enjoyable as the first is the driving from one point to another in an empty open-world, very easy time challenges, and helicopter missing that feel identical. If not for these issues, I believe Ty 2 would be as good if not better than the first.

[h1]TY 2 Take a Road Trip Down Under[/h1]
TY the Tasmanian Tiger was a fun collect-a-thon platformer. TY 2 is a very different kind of platformer, for better and for worse. But mostly for the better!

This game combines the open-ended collect-a-thon aspects from TY 1 with a more linear mission based structure. Most missions are done by exploring the open world, while others are done within the levels themselves. These missions advance the main story once you've completed enough of them, but the good news is you're not required to complete every mission to progress so there's a bit of choice in which ones you want to skip if you're not going for 100%.

While the level design is a bit more linear compared to TY 1, there's still a good amount of exploration so it doesn't bother me too much. Each level has collectables to find similar to the first game, which encourages exploration and gets the most out of the fun platforming mechanics.

Burramudgee Town is one of my favourite HUB areas I've ever experienced in a 3D platformer! It's not just about how much fun it was to run around in or all the secrets it had to offer, but also the sense of community and how welcoming it feels to be in. Everybody greets you when you walk past them ("G'Day, TY) making you feel right at home in a small country town.

There's also a sort-of open world in this game. Instead of an actual city like other games at the time went for, you're driving around in Shazza's Fourbie around the outback to your next destination. Most of this just consists of driving on empty road with barely anything going on but the occasional enemy every once in a while. These segments could've been more engaging gameplay wise, but at least they make for a decent break from the action in-between missions and accurately portrays how Outback Australia feels to drive in.

TY 2 tries to do the whole "no loading screens" idea that Jak & Daxter did back in 2001, though much like Jak 2, this game relies quite a bit on locking you in rooms that force you to wait for the door to open as the game loads when entering or exiting levels in order to achieve this. Not the biggest deal breaker, but it does break the immersion a little bit considering other PS2 games like Spyro A Hero's Tail and Crash Twinsanity handled this a lot more seamlessly.

Unlike TY 1, item trackers are available to buy from Madame Mopoke's shop. In exchange for Kromium Orbs, you can reveal the locations of remaining collectables on the map, making it easier to track down what you've missed which is a fantastic improvement for those looking to 100% the game. What I also like is that you have to actually earn these item trackers by collecting Kromium Orbs throughout the game so that it doesn't entirely defeat the purpose of exploring levels yourself.

There's a lot more variety to the different boomerangs now, and each one gets more use than they did in the first game. The lasharang was really awkward to use at first, until I learned that you're supposed to press the button again while you're still grappled instead of jumping then try to grapple again. Opals are no longer finite collectables in levels, and are now currency you can use in the shops to buy more boomerangs, bunyip licenses and health upgrades.

Combat is mostly the same as it was in the first game, but with a few changes to make it better. You get a combo multiplier for defeating multiple enemies quickly; the higher the multiplier, the more opals you get, so there's a reason to keep your combo going. There are also a few combat arenas, but they're all optional which is great as they can get a bit tedious with combat as simple as this.

I thought the bunyips were a fun addition to the game. While on foot combat works well enough in most cases, you can also use these to punch enemies up close and are even used for certain tasks like putting out fires or lifting giant rocks. What's nice is that missions with these bunyips are well designed for both on foot and bunyip gameplay in mind so they feel like extensions of the core formula rather than meaningless distractions.

Speaking of which, there are a lot more mini-games this time around. Most of these have you piloting a helicopter which are just okay distractions even if they're a bit on the easy side of things. At least you can ignore most of these if you complete a good amount of the other missions instead. Other side missions have you delivering items to another NPC within a time limit which is fine as they use the same core mechanics and reward your knowledge of the world map.

That said, I absolutely loved the addition of the kart racing mini-game. There are 7 of these in the game and while fully optional, they're a welcome addition if you ask me. These races require you to use powerups against your opponents to give yourself an edge while making good use of drifting much like Mario Kart or CTR. It even has a two player split-screen mode, allowing you to race a friend outside the main game. Despite being side content, these were probably some of my favourite parts of the game.

The bosses were a huge step up compared to TY 1. These require a bit more effort to beat and make much better use of the game's mechanics, although the second boss drags on for a bit too long. The final boss, despite being somewhat easy, was a massive improvement from the previous game. [spoiler]It was also really satisfying whacking Boss Cass to death as he's completely helpless in the final phase! That alone more than makes up for the otherwise easy final battle.[/spoiler]

Like the first game, any issues I had with the PC port are minor. The game only crashed on me twice, both when loading my save file, but a simple restart fixed it in both cases. Other than that, it ran and played really well. I appreciate the addition of a collectable tracker for each level where the original PS2 game only tracked overall completion. Easily the best, cheapest and most accessible version of this game in the current year. And if you find the game too easy, Hardcore mode was added to this port which is one-life permadeath.

TY 2 is easily my favourite game of the entire trilogy, and one I can wholeheartedly recommend to pretty much anyone. If you like platformers, you're likely to have a great time with this like I did. Much like TY 1, it's also got a very low barrier of entry in terms of skill level, meaning it's also a good place to get into 3D platformers if you've never played one before.

Plus, we need more remastered PS2 era platformers on Steam. I'm heavily nostalgic towards this era of gaming and it always makes me happy to see games from this era get the love they deserve.

Very nice remake of a classic Gamecube / Playstation 2 game. Beeing a tasmanian tiger equipped with deadly boomerangs is still as fun as it used to be. It features a really nice open world, a lot of cool missions and funny npcs. Just the kind of stuff you would want from an adventure 3d platformer. The combat feels great, and It's Austrailian theme fits the genre perfectly.

The Ty franchise may not have gained the same levels of recognition as other franchises like Sly and Crash Bandicoot etc. This remake doesn't take anything away from the original experience, and Ty is well worth a try if you're into the genre.

A great sequel made even better with quality of life improvements in this remaster! I love that the remaster makes the original game even better, which isn't always a guarantee with remasters. It is even better than the first game, with more focused level design and creative use of boomerangs. If the first game didn't win you over, I'm sure this one will! Buy it today and support the developers so one day we might get a true Ty 5!

My favorite in the series its even better than the first. The hub world in this game is one of the best I have ever seen. It is filled with characters and items to collect. The soundtrack smacks and even more boomerangs this time around. The karts feel great this port. Outfit swaps are a nice touch. If you haven't played any of these games 1-3 are some of the best platformers you can get.

Pure and utter nostalgia. Wow.

This takes me back. Ty was my childhood's version of Banjo: I adored this game. It certainly has its flaws (many of them glaring), but Krome put so much character and charm into these game that makes it difficult not to love them.

To me, Ty 2 looks and feels better than Ty 1. It has the most charm and better character interactions. The world feels real and it doesn't have the portal system of Ty 1, excelling at lots while perhaps not being as focused as the first. Ty 2 is larger, more open, and with more worldbuilding and characters. And man, if the first game's music is good, the second blows it out of the water.

The core game is very fun, though much of the collecting and platforming is no different from the first game. The best aspect is the arsenal of boomerangs at your disposal once they are all available. My only problems with Ty 2 is the super expensive boomerangs, which leads to race grinding if you want to use them for story missions. I used to really like doing so as a kid, but now it just feels like a timewaster. A new player might also struggle as not all of the maps are as linear as in Ty 1. The cart racing is also bullsh*t. It's full of random nonsense. I passionately hate it and on top of that, it is required to clear the game 100%.

Still… there’s always been something that's stuck with me about this game, ever since childhood. I think it might be the design of the world, the open world-esqe style of driving from place to place, and some of the set-pieces, like the golden grass surrounding Sly's shack, or the city looming just off the coast of the beach. Made it feel like it was it's own little chill world that I could visit anytime I liked. I guess that's probably why l'd consider this game so nostalgic to me. Hits me in the feels. I'm really glad that Krome studios is back and giving the Ty series the love it deserves. It's an above average game experience overall, but screw the cart racing.
