[h1]An All Time Classic with Innovative and Fun Gameplay[/h1]
Wonderful 101 is the kind of game that appeals to a very specific kind of person. Did you grow up on the GameCube playing stuff like Pikmin and Viewtiful Joe? Do you love arcade game genres like Beat 'Em Ups and Shmups? Did you grow up watching Tokusatsu films and television and have a weird manchild obsession with giant rubber suit monsters and martial artist superheroes? Do you want to be blocked by Hideki Kamiya on Twitter? If you answered yes to all of these... and owned a WiiU in 2013, then The Wonderful 101 was probably your favorite game of that year. For the rest of you out there, you probably looked at people who spoke highly of this game like they were insane lunatics. But hey, love is kind of a crazy thing ain't it?

The Wonderful 101 follows the story of a band of over 100 superheroes you amas over the course of the game who must defeat the invading alien force know as the Geathjerk federation. To defeat these aliens, our heroes must form together physically into massive weapons like fists, swords, whips, and more. The main character is a school teacher turned superhero known as Wonder Red. He is very clearly inspired by characters like Viewtiful Joe, and as the story goes on, you'll come across other heroes who join the party who are inspired by Kamiya's other games. The story is mostly predictable Saturday morning cartoon shenanigans, but what makes it stand out is just how good the voice acting is. Each character goes HAM in the recording booth. In addition to the great voice work, the presentation is great. You have this isometric camera with depth of field that gives the game this toy like appearance from a distance which is cool. The enemies are all very distinct and have great telegraphed attacks and, even if they're off screen, most attacks have good sound cues which you should expect from the director of Bayonetta. The music is also so damn cheesy and catchy which makes it a joy to listen to. All in all, this game is a very charming masterpiece.

The gameplay is where Wonderful 101 really shines. It's this character action, platformer, quasi-strategy game hybrid that truly feels unlike anything else. You control up to 100 heroes (plus up to 15 additional unlockable ones) and use your second analog stick to march them into formations to draw different shapes. These shapes then become weapons known as unite morphs. Circles give you a giant fist made out of multiple heroes, lines give you a sword, L shapes give you a gun, S shapes give you a whip, and there are many many more. The more heroes you use to draw, the bigger the shape, the larger, slower, and more damaging the weapon will be. Drawing your teammates can also slightly damage enemies and add to your combo. The fact that cycling between weapons is part of the combat loop is such a novel idea and it's executed extremely well once you get used to the controls. What's great is that multiple enemies may seem like they are very vulnerable to one specific weapon, but the truth is that there are multiple strategies to besting just about every enemy in the game. You can even draw shapes and then press the team attack button to have your allies perform a combo with that weapon drawn without you having to switch your current weapon out. You'll also level up each of your 100 heroes throughout the game which will then unlock different moves for the weapon they're assigned to. I personally didn't like the unlockable air combo move for the gun unite morph because it would cause me to shoot quest items I sucked into it up into the air. Well guess what? The game has a menu where you can disable specific combo moves you don't want to trigger by accident! That is such a great idea that more action games should consider. Overall, the depth here is insane!

There are a ton of unlockables and secrets after you finish the game and excellent difficulty modes that change up enemy spawns and behavior. There is an insane amount of content for this game that makes the replay value near infinite. And you will want to replay this game given how great the bosses and combat sequences are. Just a superb package that will keep you coming back as you master the bizarre gameplay loop and complex controls.

The primary drawbacks of this game are it's gimmick sections. There are scenes where you take control of a ship in a shmup inspired section, or have to watch your characters enter something on one small screen while the action happens on the main screen. You can cycle between these screens with the select button. This is a holdover from the game being on the WiiU with it's gamepad that had a screen on it and, as creative as these sequences are, these moments can be infuriating if you're not familiar with them already. Simply put, these don't work well with one monitor and can feel like pace breakers. The SHMUP sections fare about as poorly given how bad the camera can be during them which makes it easy to get shot during them. There are two Punch-Out inspired bosses also that some will find endearing, some will find infuriating.

Lastly, this port is a little weird. I found that when I gained enough achievements to unlock one of the many unlockable characters, the game would instantly crash on repeated attempts of getting that achievement. Because of this, I'd recommend using the cheat codes that unlock the different post game heroes once you know you're close to obtaining the last achievement required for unlocking them. This really should have been fixed but you still see people complain about this unfortunately.

Overall though, while this port may not be the absolute perfect way to play this game, it is an incredible privilege to get to play it on modern systems. This is one of the most joyful and creative arcade action games ever made and you owe it to yourself to give it a shot. Here's hoping Kamiya gets to make at least one more game this creative again at some point in his life.

Really solid character action game! I like the drawing to get different weapons (even if it can feel a touch inconsistent sometimes) and I really enjoyed the character moments and the writing; this game made me chuckle quite a number of times.

The difficulty can be a bit high at times (I did swap to Easy about halfway through which made this better) owing to how getting hit just once can feel a little more punishing than I'd like, but when you get into the rhythm it can feel really satisfying and pretty creative!

It definitely has flaws but this is definitely worth a play especially if you like Platinum's other work. The ending sequence especially feels really epic and well done!

Quite possibly my favorite game of all time. I'm 31 years old and first played this back when it release on the WiiU when I was graduating high school. I started on the lowest difficulty because I had never played a game like this before, and was still really unconfident in my skills back then. I fell in love with the game and worked my way up to playing almost all of the difficulties. The highest I just couldn't do. I put an untold number of hours into it and it got me hooked on Platinum as a developer. I supported the kickstarter and own a Switch copy in a lenticular case that I still haven't opened. Bless them for handing out free steam keys when those got delayed.

You can imagine that I'm a bit biased towards this game, but I can't recommend it enough. The sheer depth of combat and amount of replayability is insane. Throughout your playthrough you'll see a bunch of things that you can't interact with using your current abilities. Going back to those levels on a higher difficulty to find all of the upgrades and collect all of the wonderful ones is a real treat. There is no NG+ here. You just replay the level on whatever difficulty you want. The highest two levels have completely different enemy spawn setups, with harder enemies showing up much earlier.

Don't worry though, enemies in this can be taken down in so many different ways. Attacks can be dealt with by absorbing, reflecting, parrying, dodging, catching, shooting, time stop, using a whip to restrain the enemy, and many more that I'm forgetting. Your first playthrough is a little rough because you don't have tools to do all of these things, but going back and getting higher ratings when you're fully decked out is so rewarding. Enemies that you struggled with at first become a walk in the park, but that's where the rating system comes in.

Ratings are based on time, combo, and damage taken. You have to defeat enemies fast enough to meet the time threshold for a good time rating, but while getting a good enough combo rating AND taking little to no damage. This balance is where the real challenge lies. This may seem daunting at first, but every encounter has it's own thresholds for these ratings, and it's worth it when you finally see that pure platinum trophy at the end of a level.

I'm not going to say too much about the story. It's just the right mix of self away and seriousness that you can get invested in the world and its characters while enjoying their goofiness. The whole thing is very campy and fun, but still has one of the most climactic final bosses of any game I've ever played. They endear you to these weirdos so well that the buildup to the final encounter feels earned. I still get goosebumps listening to the music.

All in all, should you play this game? Well it changed my life, and I think you should give it a chance to change yours.

one of platinum games most in-depth games in terms of gameplay, and that says a lot when this is coming from company that created bayonetta. the possibilities and sheer combo creativity is worth playing the game in it's own right, but that's the best part about it, where the game peaks in gameplay, it goes hand-in-hand with it's story. this game and its characters will leave you with a smile on your face from start to finish!

Another over the top action packed platinumgames button masher. Massive bosses, almost too many weapons, and a unique way to control your loadouts. It gets a little frustrating sometimes trying to change weapons sometimes (And screw you operatin 7A), but I've been really enjoying it.

It's literally pikmin meets bayonetta.

The story is fun and cheesey the voice acting is pretty good. The story is the highlight the gameplay is clunky and can be made worse by using the bonus codes in the menu since it unlocks abilities early before they are introduced. It took a majority of the game to get used to the combat but when it started to feel good the game was over. Still would say play the game just be aware that the game does have a learning curve to make the combat feel smooth.

The Wonderful 101 is a game I really wish I could appreciate more than I do. The combat system is fantastic but new moves are unlocked at a snails pace. Even basic moves like stinger need to be unlocked, which takes time, and each weapon has individual attacks that need to be separately unlocked. You might say you need to complete the whole game before you can play the game proper (i.e. you have access to your full arsenal). I've played action games like this before. I don't want to have to play for hours before it gets good.

Dialogue is a roughly 50/50 split between funny satire and boring. There is definitely more of it than there should be. Likewise, combat is incredible but the gameplay is broken up into some combat, and lots of gimmicky minigames and setpieces, which pretty much always feel half baked and shallow. In short, the game does not play to its strengths.
They often make use of the "picture in picture" window which is an atrocious idea designed to attempt to make use of the Wii U's gamepad as best they could. Even worse is that the PC port offers no way to move this second screen to your second monitor, or have it be a separate window which would have at least alleviated some of the problem. Instead it takes up a constant portion of the lower right screen. The UI as a whole feels clunky and awkward to use too.

Given enough time poured into the progression systems and time spent learning individual missions I'm sure the game really could shine, and perhaps if I gave it that time then I'd feel more positively about it overall - but I've tried to get into it several times and failed on each count, for which reason I really can't recommend buying, especially at the price point which has strangely remained high despite the game's commercial failure.

I got this game on wii u back in the day and i disliked it then figured id try again. I have to say im still not having a good time. this game feels messy. parrying and dodging are important but this game won't tell you which is a parryable and which is a dodgable and some animations from enemies are impossible to tell which is which since they look the same. I also keep having to fight with the camera. and then there is lots of mini game kinda puzzle things which are poorly explained. I really appreciate the attempt to take a action game and turn it into something new but it just feels even now after the "remaster" that it still lacks a level of polish id expect from Platinum. I can't recommend this. its frustrating and janky. I may force myself to keep playing further but so far im so not having a good time and feel like every wrong move is a huge punishment. so jank and bad camera make this game feel so not fun.

Очень смешанные впечатления после прохождения, я наверное не могу пока советовать эту игру. Она очень душит своими долгими и повторяющими репликами, которые очень надоедают, а первые сражения кажутся скучными из-за лишения большого количества приёмов.
Я просто перечислю, что мне понравилось и не понравилось из плюсов:

+ Реиграбельность
Из минусов:
- Местами затянутые бои
- Сюжет
- Слишком много пафоса
- При отключении геймпада игра не ставится на паузу
Игра и в правду чудесная, но мне кажется, разрабы не смогли в баланс, где нужно остановиться, из-за чего вместо 2 минут хорошей постановы или сражения мы получаем 8 минут, но мне кажется, что при втором прохождении игра становится намного лучше.
«Control» не была для меня такой душной, как эта игра, но это лично моё восприятие.
Я обязательно ещё вернусь в эту игру и, скорее всего, я изменю отзыв на положительный, но сейчас я хочу отгородить от этой игры тех, кто ожидает от неё слишком многого.

This is an Incredible game! However, the learning curve is steep and the built in tutorials are inadequate. I watched Saurian's tutorial videos on Youtube to get a grip on combat system. Then it still took me almost an entire play through to develop the muscle memory to be able to call up the Unite Morphs on demand. However, once every clicked I found the combat system probably one of the best in a Kamiya game. Couple with the stylish and evocative art and bombastic set pieces this game really blew me away in the end. Looking forward to multiple playthroughs now that I have some skills. Highly recommended

Хочу начать со слов одного мудреца: "Наш спаситель и одна из ипостасей божественного присутствия в этом измерении, Камия-сан, создал нам, недостойным, блюпринт сосредоточия всего блаженного и утвердительного. И ничего удивительного, ведь "божественность" в имени его." И ведь именно так и можно описать The Wonderful 101. Глубина и разнообразность боёвки здесь просто поражает. Хотите - используйте кулак, хотите - меч, хотите - молот и всякое другое. А когда комбинируешь всё это - то чувствуешь себя прям мастером боевых искусств. А какие тут боссфайты...аж словами не описать, в ЭТО НУЖНО ИГРАТЬ. Что же касается сюжета - он очень хороший, и несёт в себе очень важные темы, которые особенно актуальны в наше время. Персонажи прописаны великолепно, озвучка просто на высоте благодаря изумительной игре актёров. Я особо не умею расписывать и рассказывать про что-либо более красноречиво, поэтому я не знаю что мне ещё сказать... В общем, The Wonderful 101 - это одна из самых лучших игр на свете, лучшая игра PlatinumGames, и лучшая работа Хидеки Камии.

有趣好玩,但是操作差点意思,材质建模很粗糙,虽然是willu上的游戏,但是移植略显粗糙,保留分屏设计很蠢。
普通难度通关后评价：一款让人又爱又狠的游戏，玩法非常的有趣，几乎每个章节都会加入一些新机制，后续章节几乎全是超爽的大型演出。小游戏之最，在光头的游戏里，开飞机打光枪的小游戏也是内容最多最丰富的一代。剧情也出奇的不错，非常带感。不足在于通过画线来输入，输入的精确度不高，好在不同难度下会给时间减速来辅助，不敢想象最高难度下把这个辅助去了会是多么折磨，初见不知道怪的处理方式，挫败感很强，尤其是有些莫名其妙的小游戏，经常不知道该怎么躲避或者操作。好游戏，值得一玩

The idea of the game is pretty cool, and the thematic too. But the tutorials are non-existant, and A LOT of times you have to literally guess what the game wants you to do. The game might tell you "cover to cross", and you will think "cover with what?, cover were?, and cross were?". Well, GUESS boy, GUESS, because it won't tell you.

I'm enjoying the gameplay, HATING the camera (because enemies attack you from outside of it and you take damage because you don't see the attack), and HATING the "do this" (and then it doesn't tell you what "this" is, or "how" to do it).

The rating system (bronze, silver, gold, platinum) is a bad implemented mess.
It rates you for example "time", but many times you waste time because enemies get knocked unconscious in a border of the screen where you can't see them due to the static camera that you can't move, and this makes you waste time searching for an enemy that you can't see.
It rates you also "combo", which (like I said before) they don't explain what it is. Do I have to change my weapon mid-attack to count as a combo?, do I have to attack consecutively non-stop like in a fighting game?, WHAT do YOU consider a combo, devs?.

Maybe I'll change my review later, after I learn many of the mechanics via Wiki and Youtube, because the game tells you nothing. The "tutorial" (if you can call it that) was made by someone with autism.

This is 101% a gamers game. You probably won't understand how to play the game until after you already have beaten the game already. The controls are weird to get used to, but that isn't a knock against the game. There just aren't any games that play like this and it will take time to get used to it. Much like when first person shooters came out on console and no one knew how to operate in that space. But if you stick through it you will find one of the best gaming experiences that you will find of the 2010s. A truly wonderful game

This game is a mix of Pikmin, Marvel Ultimate Alliance and Bayonetta making it one of the most unique experiences in gamming even with inspirations mentioned. Story and characters are pure super hero wank, and it is [b][i]WONDERFUL[/i][/b], every single moment is full of passion and enthusiasm. Music, again, is the hypest capeshit ever and very silver age-esque at that. When my only critique to the game is that the final level overextends itself, I knew that I was in for something truly [b][i]WONDERFUL[/i][/b].

One of Kamiya's best in terms of pure combat (and the story/cutscenes are over the top hilarious!). However, it is bogged down by unnesescary minigames. One third -- perhaps nearly one half -- of the game time will be spent doing something else besides actually playing the game. There's shooter segments, flying/jumping/platforming sections, a wannabe punch-out section, puzzles/sections that are designed for the WiiU gamepad and annoying to do with a controller, etc. Some people may love the gameplay variety, I find them annoying. Despite this, it's still worth your time because of just how good the core combat is.

It's a cute play on the genre with lots of talent behind it, but overall, I just don't enjoy it. The wondercursor is the most important part of the gameplay, but it just feels like abysmal ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥. Parrying is very important when fighting, but enemies have the same animations for some parryable attacks as unparryable attacks. The camera feels like it's constantly bouncing back and forth between not giving me enough space, or trying to run away. The tutorials barely even explain the more finnicky stuff like the wonder team and wonder leader system (which I still don't understand). Despite being a fast-paced beat-em-up, it constantly flashes stuff mid-fight that has realistically nothing to do with anything. It's all just so clunky and makes it hard to enjoy.

Take any Platinum Games titles and any superhero comics and you get this masterpiece, i remember i play the original demo on the wii u and i am getting used to the game's mechanics with the gameplay and the combos, and now they made a remastered of this 1 decade later, thank you Platinum Games. :)

I would recommend this game only if you're patient enough to learn how the combat system works. It’s exactly what you’d expect from a PlatinumGames title—chaotic battles where you’ll be dodging, guarding, and chaining combos while facing hordes of enemies.

The catch? You can literally draw weapons mid-battle. It’s a unique mechanic where you draw your heroes into shapes—sword, gun, hammer, whip, and more—and they’ll form those weapons to attack your foes. Yes, you’re actually controlling a hundred heroes in this game! It sounds amazing on paper, and it is, but it also takes a lot of patience to master.

I’m using the right thumbstick on my PS5 controller to “draw” weapons mid-battle, but sometimes it ends up drawing the wrong one, which can be super frustrating—especially when things get hectic. Oh, and quick-time events? They rely on those drawings too. I can’t count how many times I failed in the early stages because I couldn’t draw the “Fist” move properly.

As amazing as this game is—and yes, I finished it—it has a steep learning curve. I don’t think casual players would have the patience to stick with it. An amazing experience overall, but I’d give it a 7/10.

From what was originally a Wii U exclusive title, this game is absolutely a fantastic experience, even if it's a bit shorter than I remembered it being. That said, this game isn't without it's flaws, so I'll break everything down into 3 categories. This will be from the perspective from a player who is using Keyboard & Mouse controls.

The Good:
- This game has incredible replay value, and the Wonderful Codes allow for an added experience to the beginning of the game where you can basically access some of the Unite forms much earlier than anticipated.
- The gameplay, combat flow and overall coordination of the actual combat in the game is very very good. Most enemy attacks are very sightread-able. And the available difficulty options at the start and after the game make for a user friendly experience available to players of all kinds.
- The added comedic moments spread throughout the entirety of the game really gives The Wonderful 101 a unique charm compared to Platinum's other titles. Amazing choreography and sound effect usage.
- The game has a generous autosave system, so if something were to happen (and trust me, it does), you won't get pushed too far back.
- Wonder-Beer
- Wonder-Cash
- Wonder-Toilet
- Immorta and Wonder-Pink are hot

The Bad:
- Remembering what every button does can be a struggle in the beginning. Trying to remember that Unite Guts was on Shift and not CTRL gave me some trouble early on.
- The Wonder Liner can be very finicky. Having to Hold ALT and drag the mouse around has caused me some issues when solving certain puzzles, and is certainly much harder than using a joystick or the Wii U gamepad like in the original. I've had many instances where I'm trying to make Unite Sword and I end up making Unify Naginata, or when I'm trying to create Unite Gun and I end up making Unify Boomerang, Unite Hand and Unite Drill etc. The sensitivity of the Wonder Liner can be very hard to master, and considering this is the whole gimmick of the game, it can be troubling
- "Tables Turn", one of my favorite soundtracks in the entire game, got a complete overhaul in the Remaster, and while it's not a bad overhaul, it just doesn't have that kick and oomph that the original soundtrack had. And it's definitely noticeable in the Remaster.

The Ugly:
- The Pause glitch. Oh boy where do I even begin with this one. At random times the game will just pause with no possible way to "unpause" (not even hitting R, the default key, unpauses it). The only way to get rid of it was to close the game. I've mentioned that the game does have a generous autosave system, but there are times where it really hurts. Not too long ago I completed a bossfight, and was watching the end cutscene when the pause glitch happened, and I had to restart the entire stage. Bossfight included. So while mostly reliable, the autosave doesn't work everywhere.
- There are other potentially game-breaking bugs still left in the Remaster, and while it's troubling to encounter them, it really hurts when you have to close the game to fix them.
- Wanna use Wonder-Director? Hope you like getting one-shot, cuz getting hit while using him is an instant KO. (I dunno if it applies to Wonder-Goggles).

With all this being said, should you get this game? YES. By now the Wii U is pretty much dead, and the experience in the Remaster is pretty faithful to the original. Not 1-to-1, but very close.

[h1]Story[/h1]
TW101 sets itself in a future where humanity has grown advanced enough to build suits of armor so powerful they effectively turn the wearer into a nigh invincible super hero. Earth is pock marked with craters large enough to cover a quarter of a continent and remote regions of the world are littered with the decaying husks of robots tall enough to dwarf skyscrapers. Despite this, human society is advanced, efficient, clean, and optimistic. The game thrusts players into a bright and vibrant city only seconds before an alien invasion. These aliens have been here before, and now its up to you to stop them yet again. Players control not just one hero, but over one hundred of them, often all at once; each donning a power suit as they fight together to save the world. A man named Wonder Red is the primary face of the group, but as the game progresses, you'll control many more characters for brief windows of time.
The story itself isn't mind blowing. Despite the wacky premise and tone, the game actually does put in admirable effort to build a somewhat layered world with a history that produces joy, dread, despair, and excitement. Its tongue in cheek antics are guaranteed to keep you smiling for the duration, but the game's more somber moments won't really grip you. It's not a disappointing story by any stretch, and the absurd consistency with which the stakes and power levels of events rise by the end will entertain you the entire way, but don't go in expecting moving character moments or thrilling twists. TW101 is, at the end of the day, here to have fun and it delivers that in spades. It just doesn't mind giving characters and the world a little more depth along the way.

[h1]Gameplay[/h1]
101 is an isometric action game with an incredibly unique twist. Players control not one character, but an entire mob of them. While you'll only have twenty or so to start with, civilians can be temporarily empowered and recruited to bolster your ranks, and the other eighty or so actual heroes like yourself are hidden all throughout the game just waiting for you to find them and add them to your army. Partaking in combat will slowly increase each individual hero's ranking. While this doesn't really affect them, their combined ranks will level up the total rank of your army, unlocking new abilities, upgrade slots, and chunks of your health bar. The primary gimmick of the combat is the Wonder-Liner system. Activating the Wonder-Liner lets you draw your heroes out in single file to create a myriad of shapes. Drawing a circle will combine all of them into a massive fist for you to swing around. The larger you draw the circle, the bigger the fist. A straight line will get you a sword. A curvy line grants a whip, and you'll only continue to find more and more shapes you can draw as the game progresses. Many of those shapes also have secondary abilities both for combat and traversal. Drawing can also interact with the world directly in many ways. Bridging a gap will create a literal bridge for your team to cross while encircling larger objects or even stunned enemies will let you pick them up and throw them. Your line of heroes can be sent into doors or windows to search the interior for collectible items of which their are hundreds buried all over the game in many different and rather clever ways; some only being hinted at by the faint sound associated with their presence.
Combat itself is a joy ride that only gets better the more you learn about it. While you do control the entire group of heroes, what you really control is the Leader you've designated either manually for through Unite form selection, and whom the rest of the mob will follow. It is this character taking damage that will affect your health bar. If other heroes take a hit, they're momentarily cast aside and stunned, rendering them unusable by the player for several seconds, but scurrying over to wake them up sooner is something you'll get use to doing in the heat of combat. Mobbing enemies with your allies will allow them to clamber up on top and attempt to stun them while stunned enemies can be juggled into the air and battered with your combos. Different movement inputs allow you to throw out area clearing spins or alpha striking thrusts. Drawing shapes can be Multi-United, allowing you to let some of your heroes let loose with a sword while you maintain control of the Unite form currently in your hands. Enemies have different weaknesses and counters and the game isn't shy about making you experiment to find them. While this can be a pain point early on, there's nothing quite so invigorating as discovering the perfect Unite combo to nuke an otherwise troublesome enemy into dust. Along the way you'll gather resources which you can use to purchase combat moves and abilities as well as Custom Blocks; passive upgrades that grant varying effects like faster Unite Gauge regen, a timed damage nullifying Ukemi jump, or double damage at the cost of extra Unite Gauge use. There are other aspects of the game's mechanics it doesn't even bother to tell you about and learning about them is a true joy as the game reveals hidden bits of depth you beat the entire thing without even realizing it had.
The game also includes a few sections to break up the action by allowing you to pilot a ship, play through a rail shooter sequence, or partake in a shmup level as well as other unique gimmicks. On a Normal difficulty playthrough, these sections are novel sequences that add flavor to the proceedings. On Hard, their tuning leaves much to be desired. Fortunately, nothing will ever take away from the sheer joy of that first Normal run.
There's also a unique Subscreen, picture in picture style, that can be freely manipulated to the size and position you desire and shown or hidden at the press of a button. While not particularly useful for most of the game, it makes itself known during a few very specific and tailored sequences built with it in mind and also tends to hold a few easter eggs if you open it at the right time.

The game features a Time Attack mode that skips cutscenes and challenges you to race through levels for leaderboard high scores. There's a local multiplayer mode for playing through specially built missions with up to four players. Finally, Prince Vorkken mode lets you to play the game with Vorkken as your leader, replacing Multi Unite attacks with Unify Monster attacks that let your allies take on the form of many of the game's fearsome beasts.

[h1]Presentation[/h1]
Pure love. There's really no other way to describe this game. This game loves you and you'll love it. Despite the simple and cartoon nature of the visuals, the game is packed end to end with nothing but pleasing colors, massive scale, inspired designs, and constantly entertaining spectacle. The music, sound, and voice acting is equally as excellent and the attention to detail throughout at the game is nothing short of inspirational. It's utterly filled with small easter eggs, quirks, gags, and details at every imaginable turn from the loading screens to the music lyrics, character defeat screens, and beyond. Many of these details go far above and beyond being anything the game ever needed, which makes their inclusion all the more appreciated. Once you complete the game, a massive and exhaustive gallery of character models, concept art, and musical tracks are made available. There's really just nothing more to say about the presentation. The game is simply oozing with soul and you can feel it in every pixel on the screen. It did suffer a few crashes, some of which are replicable which is regrettable, but can be avoided and won't interrupt the flow of normal gameplay.

The Wonderful 101 это крайне нетипичная экшен-супергеройка, которая легко обманет своим видом неподготовленного игрока. Однако не стоит на это вестись, это может быть ваш самый неожиданный Hidden Gem за всю жизнь, так случилось и у меня. Он ощущается как духовный наследник Okami, Viewtiful Joe и Bayonetta сразу, это доведенный до совершенства почерк Камии в геймдеве который, я надеюсь, закрепит будущий Project G.G. если он вообще выйдет.. (P.S перечисленные мною игры стоит пройти перед The Wonderful 101 для наилучшего экспиренса)

[h2]LVL-дизайн[/h2]
В игре 9 операций, каждая операция делится на 3 под-операции A, B и C (за исключением операции номер 7). На A нам обычно дают новое оружие, на B нам выдают новых врагов, ситуации для этого самого оружия, и на C босс файт, от чего босс файтов в игре много.
И КАЖДАЯ операция нам постоянно предлагает что-то новое, новые ситуации, новые некие головоломки которых разбросано по всей игре нереально много, и они нереально хорошо спрятаны. Игра заставляет тебя проникнуться своей логикой, логикой ее создателя - Камии от чего любые казалось бы непримечательные детали обретают смысл. Как пример приведу самый пролог игры: может быть не в первое прохождение, но внимательный игрок заметит, что в одном из отсеков поезда в который мы не попадаем сами по себе, в ходе пролога, есть дети и нужные для расширения стамины коллектблсы. Позже по ходу игры мы получаем способность превращаться в молоток, а в том самом прологе если мыслить логически есть только один способ пробраться внутрь - пробить потолок/открыть аварийную дверь что мы и можем сделать тем самым молотком. И это не какой нибудь шаблон загадки который будет много-много раз реюзаться по ходу игры, нет, это абсолютно уникальная ситуация коих в игре десятки, если не сотни..

[h2]Боевая система[/h2]
The Wonderful 101 предоставляет абсолютно уникальную концепцию боевой системы, так ещё и с шикарной реализацией. Ее зародыш был еще в Okami, но ей не хватило глубины чтобы стать настолько же крутой. Суть концепции заключается в своебразном рисовании силуэтов нужного тебе оружия правым стиком, от чего даже казалось бы обычная смена оружия требует игрока сосредоточиться, особенно в аир комбо. Говоря о самих комбо - нереально весело и уникально. Сначала тебе нужно сделать врага уязвимым для того самого аир комбо, и даже тут есть свои нюансы у разных врагов: у кого то нужно просто уложиться в тайминг и поставить блок прямо перед ударом, на кого то выгоднее будет натравить толпу свою толпу кнопкой Y, кто-то требует определенного оружия, а кто-то несколько сразу и тд. После того как враг стал уязвимым для комбо тебе нужно придумать комбинации для того чтобы удержать его в воздухе как можно дольше, и это очень важно, ибо стан у врагов кончается очень быстро и они будут готовы к атаке почти сразу после приземления. Для этого в игре 11 кардинально разных оружий со своим мувсетом и уникальными способностями, которые раскрывать в этом обзоре я не буду, дабы каждый смог познать их изучение самостоятельно. Однако, могу дать наводку - никогда не забывать про Multi-Unite, способность покупаемая в магазине, позволяющая атаковать несколькими орудиями сразу, очень помогает в комбо.

[h2]Сюжет[/h2]
Сходу - обычный карикатурный супергеройский сюжет, но чем дальше игра тем больше можно заметить интересных нарративных приемов, затронутых тем, крутых лорных моментов и деталей. А концовка не оставит вас равнодушным уж точно. Хочу без спойлеров поэтому эта часть обзора получилась довольно маленькой.

[h2]Слабые стороны игры, а точнее ее ремастера[/h2]
Увы и ах, на пару с Okami ремастер The Wonderful 101 очень плох в техническом, и не только плане. Эта игра - слишком хорошая игра для Wii U. Камия нашел много интересных применений его планшету, от того дельный порт на другие платформы - практически нереален. И ладно если бы проблема была только в сегментах с использованием планшета, но нет. Ремастер полон графических багов из за родного разрешения, и не менее полон геймплейных багов, а иногда даже критичных, которые не пофиксили даже спустя столько лет после выхода ремастера. Например недавно столкнулся с тем, что игра вылетала на получении ачивки нужной для разблокировки секретного персонажа. Обходится путем мгновенной паузы после получения ачивки, почему не фиксят - непонятно. Однако почти все баги и их фиксы расписаны в фанатской [url=https://the-wonderful-101.fandom.com/wiki/] википедии [/url] игры.

i will change my review once i have bought a controller as i do believe this game is great even though i haven't played before but unfortunately you CANNOT play this game without a controller. the drawing system is AWFUL on mouse or even drawing tablet. controller is the only way even remotely possible to draw anything correctly. i really don't understand how this happened this game was made for WII U gamepad AND A DRAWING TABLET AND A MOUSE ARE HARDER TO CONTROL THEN JUST USING A CONTROLLER. LITERALLY HOW?!?!?!
If i could make a suggestion for an alternative way the devs can fix this until they can 100% fix the drawing system is to make it so you can switch untie morphs with a set of buttons.

How the hell does this game have less than 1,000 reviews?

This is probably the most creative game Platinum has ever developed, taking clear influence from their previous works (both at Platinum and Clover Studios), along with some Pikmin influence, yet making something one-of-a-kind out of the elements it combines. The combat is interesting, encouraging the player to chain as many Unite Morph attacks in as little time as possible without getting hit in each encounter. It takes the spectacle fighter formula Platinum has perfected, and makes a gameplay loop that, while proudly wears it's influences on it's sleeve, I cannot directly compare to any other game out there. All of this is thanks to the game's Unite Morph concept and the unique control scheme that compliments the system well.

The art direction is beautiful and captivating. It's a really colorful game with playful, toy-like setpieces that are a joy to journey through and do some light exploration in. These setpieces have exhilarating spectacle going on, from giant robots collapsing city streets and skyscrapers, to trekking through crumbling ancient ruins. The game has a wide variety of setpieces to play through, and it keeps things interesting through the game's runtime!

The storyline is there. It is not exactly an amazing story, being a really simple good vs. evil story between a group of superheroes and alien invaders. With that being said, it is still entertaining throughout the cutscenes and dialogue, with funny comedy playing throughout that pays homage to the sentai shows that influenced it. The QTE fails in particular are amazing and some of the best QTEs ever made because of that. The story does drop from simply written to lazily written by the third act, but that does not bother me thanks to the comedic writing staying cosistantly strong throughout.

It's not a perfect experience. I do feel the controls can be janky at times, with some Unite Morphs being a bit harder to do properly than others. This especially applies to certain Unite Morphs you get if you apply certain cheat codes into the game, where you need to be more precise to avoid the system confusing certain unite morphs with others. There is also keyboard and mouse support, but the game is best played on a controller due to how poor the mouse support is. That is a shame, since I was hoping drawing shapes with the mouse would be a good experience. But at least the right analog stick isn't too bad for what the game wants you to draw.

Ultimately, I recommend The Wonderful 101. It is an incredibly unique game that is worth at least one playthrough, even if it is not as good as some of Platinum's other titles, such as Bayonetta or Metal Gear Rising. This game is underrated, and I wish more people into spectacle fighters tried out this game.

The best Platinum game and easily one of the best action games ever made. This game is absolutely incredible and truly is so much more than it looks like it is. It takes some time to click but once it does this is the most character ass action game ever made. Worth every penny I even went and bought the Switch version so I could own a physical copy.

I still own my WiiU copy of TW101, this game is such a gem. I was kind of surprised to see Nintendo let this one go multiplatform but then again, seeing that nobody really cared about the game it makes sense. Everybody keeps complaining about developers only putting out uninspired sequels but then they also ignore unique and fun new IPs like this one.

The game has a very fun hack n slash combat in which you draw the weapons you want to use via the right stick, e. g. a circle for a fist, a line for a sword, etc. In order to draw you need to recruit units that can be found throughout the different missions. Them more units you have the bigger the shape so you deal more damage damage. I will say though that the drawing can be a bit finicky, especially later on when you have shapes that can overlap a bit. The drawing system also feels terrible to use in missions that limit your available units so you have to rely on small shapes.

The writing is super funny with constant bartering between the party members. The game relies heavily on stereotypes but not in a malicious way, it's just fun. The visuals have also aged really well with its colourful artstyle.

I will say though that revisiting the game has made me more aware of its frustrating aspects:
- The camera often doesn't play nice, it's way too zoomed in during fights and you can very often get hit from attacks/projectiles that you can't even see because the camera doesn't allow for it.

- Blocking and dodging have to be purchased from the shop after the prologue but the game doesn't tell you so. If you don't buy it (which I didn't) you will have an absolute terrible experience in the first mission. When you look at the achievement completion rate you will see that only 80 % of the players finished the prologue. But then there is also a massive drop off for chapters 1 to 3 which only 20 % of the players finished. I wouldn't be surprised if a lot of players ended up quitting during chapter 1 because they didn't buy the block in the shop

- Another reason people probably quit is how difficult the game is. The game really punishes the players. If you get hit, not only do you lose a lot of health but your units get knocked out and cannot be used until they recover after like 10 seconds or before you touch them. So getting hit means that you lose HP, cannot attack yourself and cannot block/dodge because that also requires units.

- The game is also a bit too long for this genre with its roughly 15 hours. There are a couple of missions that suck, mostly the ones that switch genre like Shmup and PunchOut. If they were cut it would have made for a better and more replayable experience.

Overall though despite all the frustrating things the game is pretty awesome and there is really nothing quite like it on the market.

Honestly has become one of my favourite games, the only problem it had was that it was saddled to the WiiU, and that's now been fixed! Way more people need to check this out, one of Platinum's best.

Being able to finally complete this game on PC is something I never thought I'd get to do, and the secrets are well worth it.

The Wonderful 101 tiene uno de los sistemas de combate más interesantes que hay en la industria.
Una lástima que PlatinumGames tenga la necesidad de sabotear el ritmo del juego con mini-juegos constantemente.

Es la única razón por la cual no lo puedo valorar por encima de Bayonetta (El cual también tiene mini-juegos pero en una cadencia más aceptable).

En mi opinión uno de los problemas más grandes del estudio es no saber leer bien el ritmo de sus juegos. Se puede ver también en Metal Gear Rising como tienen un problema similar con las llamadas de "codec" que interrumpen la acción en los momentos menos deseados.

Aun con todo, The Wonderful 101 es uno de los mejores hack n´ slash del mercado y un juego obligatorio si eres amante del género.

Tiene su periodo de aprendizaje por tener controles tan poco tradicionales, pero si se toman el tiempo de aprender a jugar el juego se convertirá en la madre más adictiva y rejugable que van a probar en su vida, sin mencionar todo el espectáculo que tiene el juego, cosas que serían el jefe final en cualquier juego son solo el segundo jefe. Wonderful 101 is a game that starts out with a frustrating, clunky, and slow feeling. Then after you spend some time, it evolves into the complete opposite. It's a satisfying, enjoyable, and fast paced action game. The characters and humor in the game is well done. The music really makes you feel pumped and ready for action. Despite its cartoony family friendly appearance it's still a platinum games title. So expect it to be difficult and expect it to be down bad because that development studio has not been outside since 2007. If this game looks like something you'd be down to play or you're a platinum games enjoyer then this will be a great pickup. If you're expecting a casual fun game then you might want to look elsewhere.

I’ve been a big fan of Platinum Games’ work ranging from MGR: Revengence to Nier Automata/Replicant, but it turns out I was first exposed to them through The Wonderful 101 when it first came out on the Wii U. Back then, I was a preteen and I couldn’t make it through the game’s demo, but instead of being frustrated, I was sad because I thought what the game showed me so far was really cool. Fast forward a decade and I finally gave it another go. This time, I had an absolute blast. In my eyes, it has the most satisfying gameplay I’ve seen from them, but it takes a lot of work to get there. The game’s story and presentation are superb and most of the characters are easy to get attached to. Of course, it has a lot of small flaws that persist throughout the entire game, but that doesn’t keep me from recommending it to just about anyone. Give The Wonderful 101 a try! I promise you won’t be good at it right away, which is the best thing possible for a unique action game.

GAMEPLAY

When I first started playing, I struggled to get high scores and I often sucked at figuring out what I was supposed to do against particular enemies. The game isn’t clear about its grading system, both in level and at the final tally at the end of each level. Even when I felt like I was getting a hang of the core gameplay and figuring out all of the things that were not explained to me, I would still be thrown for a loop at nearly every level because of the insane amount of variety this game has. There are certain parts of each level where you’ll be forced to play in a different genre for a short time, like a side-scrolling shooter, a Punch-Out minigame, a blocky mining minigame, or a fast-paced Star Fox shooter. We are given little time to master the new mechanics in these sections and we’ll often be killed because of our inexperience. These sections are great in a vacuum, but they are frustrating for first-time players since they have pretty much nothing to do with the core gameplay. At this point, you may be wondering why I recommend this game when I have all of these criticisms, and that’s because the most satisfying part of this game is “getting it”. The common consensus for TW101 is that you aren’t truly playing the game until it’s your second playthrough, where everything has become clear. Finally being able to handle everything the game throws at you is the best feeling ever, which leads me to everything I love about this game, once again starting with the gameplay. First of all, the game’s core combat is one of a kind. You look at the enemies in front of you and make a split-second decision about which weapon would be best to use. It took a while for me to get the hang of drawing stuff like the hammer or the claws, but most of the weapons were simple enough to draw and understand their strengths and weaknesses. The most satisfying part of the core gameplay is gradually increasing the amount of people in your group, so your weapons can either get bigger, or you can choose to use multiple weapons at once. It always feels nice to wrap the Wonder Liner around people and it's awe-inspiring to see how big your weapons can get by the end of the game. This game is amazing at slowly increasing the scale of every battle. At the beginning of the game, your weapons make you look ant-sized compared to the city-destroying mechs you encounter, but by the end, those mechs are adopted into your party, so your weapons become larger than cities or even states. While this game has a cartoony art style meant for a dated console, the weapons looked beautiful in their respective colors, especially the fist and the sword. Overall, the core combat is among the best I’ve seen in a video game, but that’s only half of what makes this game iconic. The other half is made up of spectacular quick-time events. A multitude of these can be found in every level and they all bring a sense of humor and awe to the gameplay. They can fulfill a character arc, like when Red shoots an arrow up at Laambo, piercing him, and from above, he grabs Laambo’s blade to cut him in two. At the time, we don’t realize this is the person who killed Red’s father, but now that we know, it’s extra satisfying to see Red give him a taste of his own medicine. The same can be said for Blue’s big moment when he relied on his teammates for the first time to take down his big brother’s betrayer, Vijounne. They can also be pretty hilarious, like when Red tickles a giant mech’s armpit to get it to let go of the Virgin Victory. My favorite quick-time event, which combines humor, spectacle, character growth, and a bit of meta-commentary, is the final one where Red is giving his final attack a ridiculously long name as Jerginga’s laser is barreling toward Earth. Blue gets more and more restless until he jumps at Red to fire the cannon, which he does, and then the most meta thing I’ve seen from Platinum Games turns its head. Throughout the game, I’ve been mashing the button with one finger during quick-time events, and in this final quick-time event, they show the main cast of the Wonderful 100 doing the same thing. I also have to point out that there are a ton of creative fail-state animations for every quick-time event that go unnoticed, but I appreciate them nonetheless. While the soundtrack in this game doesn’t have a lot of variety, it carries the game to the end and it sends the big spectacle moments into overdrive whenever the cheesy vocal theme pops up. It just feels like a necessary part of the game’s DNA.

STORY

All that’s left to talk about are the story and characters. The game’s story is basically Gurren Lagann the video game, so it’s predictable, unpredictable, and fist-pumping awesome the whole way through. I had a great time getting to know most of the characters by seeing their personalities unfold as the story progresses, Red and Blue especially. Blue is just Sonic the Hedgehog (voice included) with a “learning the power of teamwork” arc and Red already reached a level of maturity that Blue will eventually learn from. I love all of the ridiculous names he has for special moves and the overly detailed title cards he blurts out for every main character in the game. Both of their personalities shine through right when Red is assigned as the leader. He doesn’t think himself worthy since he couldn’t save his dad but he embraces the role regardless. At the same time, we see Blue frustrated with the new chain of command so when we first enter a level, Red tells the team to “Unite Up!” and everyone enthusiastically yells “Roger!” except for Blue who says it like he just got put in time out. In retrospect, Red had a crazy amount of reserve for not going berserk against his father’s murderer, which is an example Blue eventually learns from. Later, Blue goes on his revenge arc and Red chases after him and they beat the ♥♥♥♥ out of each other because Red wanted to knock some sense into Blue (another Gurren Lagann trope) because he wants to help him with whatever he’s going through. Afterward, when Red is put in mortal peril, Blue unconsciously chooses Red over his thirst for revenge so he kinda learns his lesson until he makes another big mistake and is lore dumped about Red’s sad backstory making them “not so different after all”. Blue embraces the power of teamwork and the rest of the story is just the coolest and dumbest ♥♥♥♥ ever. I gotta say the voice acting in this game is incredible, especially Red’s. Everyone including Blue is pretty one-note but it feels like Red’s voice actor knew how to confront every emotion necessary. The other characters are serviceable, but I wanted to point out Black just because of how hilariously racist his intro is. He’s got dreads, he breakdances, he refuses to socialize, he’s always playing video games, and he throws BOMBS. I was laughing my ass off at how on the nose he was. So yeah, the story is great fun and it’s cool seeing events unfold in a second playthrough because of our new perspective.
