The White Chamber is a scifi point & click game with some unnerving horror elements and a hands down incredible story.
I don't know how I stumbled across this game but I'm so glad I did because it is AMAZING! From the voice acting to the art (oh my god the YuGiOh style is amazing) and the story, every inch of this blood soaked suspense game is up my alley.
It's a super short game (About an hour run time for your first run) with 4 endings but wow it packs so much in there. The story is fantastic, drawing heavy inspiration from Event Horizon but I also got a bit of The Thing vibes as well. The plot twist at the ending stunned me, I didn't see it coming and when I replayed the game to get the other endings it just made me fall in love with the game even more.
The White Chamber is free, and has been for 20+ years but if you wanna support the devs then a more polished version is available on steam for ~$3, which is what I played and recommend.

I played the white chamber when it came out. Twenty years later it feels even more raw and captivating.
The mid-2000s deviantart anime-ish character designs that felt so amateurish back then feel fresh when paired with so much surreal violence. The narrative is mostly silly and random but the stakes always feel high when another carefully crafted grisly animation waits around the corner.
If a horror game is the sum of all the weird imagery crammed into it, this is one of the all time greats.
Fairly short, psychological space horror point 'n click game. Relatively easy to solve as well. I managed to go though the whole game without looking into solutions and having moments of hesitation only once or twice. Throughout the whole game the mystery behind all that's happening at the facility kept me going. It is really creatively written, a bit unsettling and intruguing at the same time. Definitely worth the current price.

I'm really happy seeing this on Steam. I remember playing this back it 2007 or so, back in primary school (I probably shouldn't) and it became one of my core memory games. I spent weeks playing this and I have everything ingrained in my mind to this day.
It is not one of the best games ever, but it will always be one of my favorites. Worth checking out if you love indie horror.
I was first exposed to this hidden gem of horror through YouTube videos, and at the time, I thought this was the most terrifying game I'd ever seen. Now, many years later, I found out it's available on Steam for dirt cheap, so of course I had to snatch it up. How do I feel nowadays?
It's STILL terrifying.
For a simple point-and-click adventure, it's VERY atmospheric and EXTREMELY unnerving. There's very little music aside from low drones and piano keys, but it builds that element of loneliness and the feeling that something is very wrong. You'll be feeling uncomfortable from start to finish, which is exactly what a horror game should do.
The story isn't the best thing ever written, but it's a good mystery nonetheless. Throughout the game, you'll find clues and details revealing exactly what went wrong on this space station, and the end just might surprise you. There's also TONS of endings to get, one of which completely throws the horror element out the window, just to add a little bit of comedic value into a predominantly scary game.
The voice acting...good lord, is it bad. It's so laughable that it honestly detracts from the experience. Thankfully, you get the option when you start up the game to turn it off, so do yourself a favor and use that option.
Overall, The White Chamber is a hidden classic of indie horror. It will creep you out with its atmosphere, intrigue you with its story, and will keep you coming back for more until you've finally earned redemption...

The White Chamber is a haunting little sci-fi horror game that really gets under your skin. The hand-drawn art and eerie sound design pull you into its lonely, guilt-soaked atmosphere right away, and the slow reveal of what actually happened on the station is genuinely unsettling. Atmosphere is part of its appeal, and it works for the most part.
You play as a woman who wakes up in a coffin-like chamber aboard a derelict space station with no memory of how she got there. From there, you explore dimly lit corridors, solve puzzles, and piece together logs and clues to uncover the station’s dark history, and your own role in it. It’s part mystery, part psychological horror. It'll run you about 3 hours.
That said, the multiple endings can be a bit of a mess... they're interesting, but not very satisfying, and a few of the puzzles feel confusing just for the sake of it. There’s also a lot of empty space that sometimes kills the tension instead of building it. Still, despite its rough edges, The White Chamber nails the mood and delivers a creepy, thoughtful experience that’s absolutely worth your time.
Plays great on steam deck
Doubtless an inspiration for aspects of [i]Dead Space[/i], this gorgeously drawn point 'n' click obviously took its inspiration from [i]Event Horizon[/i], and maybe other classics of the [b]Eldritch Space Madness[/b] sub-genre. Don't expect a plot that will astound you, but atmosphere that will unnerve you with living walls and squishy revenants -- in crisp [i]Yu Gi Oh[/i] style, no less! Look out for nuggets of ironic, referential humor such as was all the rage back in 2005. (I loved the video game magazine.) When you're done with the main game, there's an audio drama you can listen to. The main voice actor is surprisingly good, and it actually [i]does[/i] add an extra facet to the story of the main game!
A blast from the past, I really enjoyed this game, its a shorter journey that you could knock out in about an hour.
The puzzles and the artstyle was fun, just be on the lookout for the Karma system which does in fact affect the ending of the game.
And freaking Kira Buckland voices the MC
小时候玩的一款很优秀的解密游戏。但是由于当时年纪太小，卡关死活过不去，还被吓得不行，一直没有通关过。现在知道上架了steam，买下来补个票，打个全成就，也算为小时候的遗憾画上句号。没想到当时感觉好难的解密和好恐怖的氛围，在现在看来也不过如此。这是成长的结果，也是长大的后果。小时候那么丰盈而纯真的游戏体验，再也体会不到了。
可惜热心网友翻译了九种语言没有中文，主界面灰塔里那些英文的设定啥的也懒得听了。游戏在当时2005年刚出的时候作为免费游戏还是相当优秀的，画风别具一格，解密部分即便放在现在也算得上可圈可点。还有全程配音和背景设定集，看得出来作者当初很有野心。可惜后面团队两人分道扬镳，没有再出过其他作品，也没能成功重置本作。令人惋惜。

Bought this because I remembered playing and loving it back in the day. Replayed it now, and it's still holds up really well! One of the best horror point & click adventures I've ever played, with clear inspirations from movies like Event Horizon and The Sphere, as well as a bit of Silent Hill. Yet with it's own, unique story and art style. Even the gameplay deserves credit, for the puzzles are all well thought out, and the system for how you get the different endings is really good! The voice acting, graphic style, and animations are all also quite fantastic!
My only critiques would be that instead of having to right click and then choose look or use, you could've just had look and use as left and right click. I'd also change the single use game mechanic that uses the keyboard to use the mouse instead. And finally, the art for the rooms could've done with a better illusion of depth/perspective. These are minor points though, and I highly recommend playing this game!
100% in roughly 3 hours.

El juego es una versión de aniversario del juego original, lanzado hace casi 20 años.
Las diferencias entre el original (gratis, por cierto) y esta versión son mínimas. Las mas destacables son las actuaciones de voz y que todo lo relacionado con "the grey tower" ahora esta disponible desde el inicio, a diferencia del original donde necesitabas completar el juego primero.
Juego decente con varios finales. Aparte, es muy barato.
"the white chamber" is certainly a one of a kind experience. I really love this game. It's so unfortunate that nobody knows about it. It's a great ∼2 hours of your time. The most 2000's video game I've ever played.

Игра из тех времён, когда жанр квестов ещё не до конца умер, а сюжетная завязка, "Ты проснулся один на пустом космическом корабле и ничего не помнишь", считалась чуть менее заезженной, чем сейчас. Вообще про эту игру много говорить не хочется. У меня наиграно 2 часа и уже выбита платина, но несмотря на это, вам не покажется история скомканной, а продолжительность слишком короткой. Вообще, это авторский инди проект и здесь всё сделано, как задумано. Единственное, что может оттолкнуть, так это аниме стилистика, причём не современная няшная и ванильная, а хардкорный и олдовый аниме гуру стайл. Но спешу вас заверить, блевотины, свойственной аниме проектам, здесь не будет, а данный стиль был выбран, скорее всего, из-за нехватки бюджета. Если попробовать как-то описать игру, то это просто классический point&click квест, но с солидными такими хоррор элементами, не свойственными обычным ужастикам, где каждую секунду вылетают скримеры и падает какой-нибудь шкаф. Здесь пугают атмосферой, обстановкой, напряжением, это не передать словами, в это надо поиграть. Я специально главные фишки игры в этом обзоре упоминать не буду, чтобы вы всё прочувствовали сами, а это стоит того. Из минусов могу выделить разве что сложность. Одна-две головоломки заставят вас попотеть, даже чересчур. Сделано это, конечно, для того, чтобы хоть немного растянуть хронометраж. Но я крайне не рекомендую вам пользоваться гайдами и прохождениями, чтобы ничего себе не заспойлерить. Несмотря на всю мою любовь к Белой комнате, я не могу поставить игре больше 7/10, хотя это безусловно уникальная игра, которую я рекомендую абсолютно всем.

Habiendo arrancado como poco más que un proyecto universitario para luego ser extendido al calibre de un producto completo, [b]The White Chamber[/b] acabó estrenando a modo de Freeware en 2005 a manos de [b]Studio Trophis[/b] por medio del [b]Wintermute Engine[/b].
Se trata de una [b]Aventura Gráfica Point and Click[/b] de [b]Horror[/b] y [b]Ciencia Ficción[/b] protagonizada por [b]Sarah Ericson[/b], con quien vamos a ir desentramando lo que sea que haya ocurrido en las instalación espacial en la que despertó.
Es bastante breve, no reinventa la rueda y sufre de algunas carencias respecto al audio (Cuando [b]Sarah[/b] habla se escucha un notorio ruido blanco de fondo; y en ocasiones sus diálogos y los de otros personajes están a niveles de volumen dispares); pero son estas aristas las que aprecio de productos independientes que brillan por su ambición artística a pesar de la precariedad que traen de presupuesto. Me recuerda a clásicos como la adaptación jugable de [b]I Have No Mouth and I Must Scream[/b] o a uno de mis juegos favoritos, véase [b]Garage: Bad Dream Adventure[/b].
Tampoco es un juego muy complicado y por si fuera poco se nos permite guardar y cargar partida en cualquier momento, algo que va a ser de mucha utilidad considerando los varios finales alternativos que ocurrirán si morimos por el camino. Y respecto a éstos, [b]The White Chamber[/b] cuenta con 4 finales dependientes a una estadística oculta llamada '[b]Karma[/b]' que va a aumentar o disminuir en función a las decisiones que tomemos por el camino, dando lugar así a 1 de estos finales.

Respecto a [b]Studio Trophis[/b]; el equipo estaba constituido por 3 integrantes, [b]Richard Perrin[/b], [b]Paul Johnson[/b] y [b]Zakir Rahman[/b], y antes de separarse en 2009 contaron con un lindo historial de producciones animadas partiendo en el 2003 además de la publicación de una precuela de [b]The White Chamber[/b] en formato audio-drama. Me llamó la atención que su sitio en [b]Wikipedia[/b] destacase que estaban trabajando en otro juego, [b]For The Game[/b], no obstante la única información al respecto en línea es tan sólo un par de párrafos y una ilustración en un archivo .pdf en el sitio web oficial del estudio.
En 2014 el mismo trío que realizó [b]The White Chamber[/b] se reunió para arrancar a trabajar en una remasterización que por poco podría haberse considerado un remake, pues los escenarios, sprites, interfaz y animaciones iban a estar rehechas desde cero. En los sitios web de [b]Locked Door Puzzle[/b] y [b]Adventure's Index[/b] (Nombres a los que ahora responden dos de los desarrolladores) continúa hoy disponible información respecto a esta remasterización, incluyendo un trailer muy completo que en tan sólo 1 minuto sirvió para indicar cuán profesional lucía este lavado de cara. Sin embargo en 2024 y ya a una década de haber sido anunciada, uno de los devs contestó en los foros de [b]Steam[/b] que a esta remasterización no se la pudo completar por problemas de comunicación y tiempo, por lo que acabó cancelándose.
Para quien le interese, en el sitio oficial de [b]Studio Trophis[/b] publicaron el código fuente. Por mucho que en [b]Steam[/b] esté a 3 dólares, el juego es en realidad [b]Freeware[/b] y se puede descargar gratuitamente en línea, comprarlo acá es para quienes quieran apoyar a los devs.

[b]¿En conclusión?[/b] Un clásico de culto, grotesco y entretenido por su corta duración. En 4.3 horas registradas me saqué todos los logros, pero mi primer partida me tomó algo de una hora y 10 minutos.

Had no idea what I was doing half the time. But it felt really accomplishing when I would get a brain blast and solve a puzzle. That one with the mirror was ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ though.

Старый британский квест родом из 2005 года, оригинальная версия которого, кстати, до сих пор бесплатно валяется на сайте разрабов.
Здесь неплохой визуапьный стиль (пусть анимешная стилистика вас особо не пугает), запоминающаяся атмосфера, слегка наркоманский сюжет [spoiler]с твистом а-ля Агата Кристи (кто читал "Убийство Роджера Экройда", тот поймет)[/spoiler], несколько концовок.
Как адвенчура игра простая, проходится за 1,5 часа (а если знать что делать - то минут 15), каких-то сложностей или нелогичных загадок не обнаружено. Да, одно из достижений без гайда вы вряд ли выбьете, но собрать хорошую концовку, например, тут проще, чем все остальные. Ну и я бы не отказался, будь игра чуть подлиннее.
Из недостатков. Героиня ходит быстрее чем скроллится экран. Да, там всего один момент, где это заметно, но все же. Ну и в некоторых моментах, когда с персонажем что-то происходит, лучше не ходить им, а то есть шанс его "задвоить".
Очень жалко, что студия так и не выпустила больше игр. Разрабы разбежались по разным компаниям, один из них осел как раз-таки в Locked Door Puzzle, которое и выпустила переиздание этой игры. К сожалению, остальные игры, которыми верховодил данный товарищ, у меня лично интереса не вызывают. Все-таки The White Chamber - это, похоже, результат именно командный, где сошлись звезды и нужные таланты.
Обязательно оцените продукт (напоминаю, можно и бесплатно скачать с сайта разрабов). Это многообещающий квест, приятно и легко играется, оставляет о себе добрые воспоминания.

An absolute underrated classic horror game. It's very short and simple, but very memorable. Definitely left an impact on me all those many years ago when I downloaded it off the developer's website. It was always free there, and still is, but I think it's still worth paying the $3 for this version.

Це римейк безкоштовної студентської гри 2005го року, в неї дуже специфічний стиль та очевидний й наполегливий акцент на гротеск, себто криваві подробиці в дуже великих кількостях, поціновувачам окремо рекомендую. Попри це в грі є сюжет та лор, які в цій версії навіть не приховані, а виділені окремим пунктом меню. Я б радив повернутися до них пізніше, бо без повного проходження ви ніц не зрозумієте, а також звертаю увагу, що це майже повністю аудіофайли без субтитрів (грав англійською й позаяк секретний аудіофайл теж англійською, ну ви пойняли), тож якщо хочете зрозуміти, що там відбулося, добре знання англійської\німецької дуже знадобиться. Звісно ж це якщо ви хочете саме зрозуміти лор та отримати пояснення подіям в грі, там досить цікавий концепт, особливо зважаючи на оригінальну дату виходу.

Ігролад тут простий й весь крім одного моменту вимагає тицяння мишкою, завдання логічні та не важкі, збереження можна робити будь-коли, тож можна отримати більшість закінчень за одне проходження, а можна поекспериментувати, бо тут є трохи прихованих цікавинок та навіть одне своєрідне "зась!", якщо зробити дещо до того, як це стане сюжетно обумовлено (себто, скажімо, під час другого проходження гри). Мої майже чотири години це дослідження всього, що я зміг знайти та перетицяти, гру можна пройти за півтори години, але ви пропустите весь сюжет та отримаєте посередній жахастик про каліцтва, що за таку смішну ціну теж непогано, але гра може запропонувати більше.
Мальовка та стиль специфічні, в мене тепер в голові це навіки стилістичний кросовер Югіо! та Завойовника Зіма, ніц не знаю, люблю обидва фендома. А от музику б зауважив окремо, вона сюди дуже пасує та чудово звучить. Й кажучи "чудово" я маю на увазі звук ваших нервів в блендері, це не сарказм, саундтрек дряпає скальпелем по склу в вашій голові і це про цю гру.
Загалом як завше радив би тим, кого не лякають криваві подробиці та мальовка, але за 74 гривні без знижки докупив би ще саундтрек та артбук, якби були. Можливо, для більшості навіть цей римейк виглядає надто старим, але гра зробила купу цікавих речей, які зараз видадуться менш оригінальними, та все одно працюють.
Good game would recommend, loved replaying it to get the achievements and for the first time.

This is one of the coolest ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ things I've played in a while and rather than attempt to wax poetic I'm just going to say play it now, even if you don't like playing point and clicks (I don't lol), it's aesthetic alone should win it some sort of art award but the pacing is also untouchably good and the plot is engaging.

A legendary classic of the 00s indie games. You could download this for free from the original website, but why not pay a little money for a piece of history? Also check out [i]Iji[/], [i]Cave Story[/i], uh, maybe Ben Croshaw's old games, [i]Datajack[/i]... There was a whole era of weird games you could only find on the internet, back when I was young, and not an ancient millennial boomer who feels sleepy when my bedtime runs past 11:30.
Great horror point-and-click adventure game.
The only things i didn't quite like is the voice acting is weird sometimes and the game is really short. I beat it in 1.5 hours without using any guides and if you know what to do and speedrun it, it takes 5-10 minutes or so.
I played this game years ago, sometime after release, when it was a free download. It was the coolest thing back then, an obvious homage to Silent Hill, lovingly crafted. I'm happy to pay for it!
This game was great! I had died like 2 times in it though, and from those two deaths I had to start over because I didn't know there was a save feature in the game. It's quite a challenging puzzle game that I TOTALLY did NOT need to have watched a walkthrough in order to go past it. Trust me, I am just very smart like that :P

ถ้าใครเคยดูหนังจำพวก Event Horizon หรือเกมจำพวกอย่าง Dead Space หรือ Silent Hill บรรยากาศเนื้อหาจะค่อนข้างใกล้เขียงกันมาก
แต่ต่างตรงที่เกมนี้เป็นแนว Point and click ดำเนินเนื้อเรื่อง เกมจะมีฉากจบหลายแบบและรายละเอียดการทำฉากจบไม่เหมือนกันด้วย
เกมค่อนข้างสั้นถ้าเล่นแบบ งูๆ ปลาๆ พอไปถูกก็อาจใช้เวลา 1 ชั่วโมง แต่ถ้ารู้อะไรหลายอย่างหมดแล้ว 40 นาทีก็น่าจะพอได้
7/10 เนื้อหาดาร์คน่าติดตามใช้ได้ แต่เกมสั้นไปหน่อยแถมไม่ค่อยมีเหตุผลให้เล่นซ้ำ ด้วยความที่เกมมันเก่าด้วยแหละ

Great game, after you complete it once and know what to do the rest of the achievements are super easy to get ! 10\10 good to play quest horror game, The game itself is quite old around year 2000 or something like that but still Im surprised I found it here and even more finished it completely !

I really don't know.
The graphics are great, the art style stands out as this weird melding of late 90s anime meets early 2000s western cartoon that just hits so different. Its dark, moody vivid colours but also a little silly. Harsh angles and cold metal, rotten rusty decayed backgrounds. Its beautiful and unsettling and I love it.
The music is also top shelf stuff, really sets the tone. It's just, good horror game music.
Honestly, if you're at all on the fence the original freeware version is still up! Google it!
Personally for me, I agree with the developers. It's better than pizza.

Hab´s damals gezockt und es heute wieder zu spielen ist einfach zu nice! Mein freund schenkte mir dieses Game wieder und es ist noch cooler als in Erinnerung! Die Atmosphäre, das Feeling generell,alles schön bedrückend wie es auch sein soll.
Was mich wirklich überrascht hat war die deutsche Synchro, diese ist unfassbar gut und die Sprecher haben fabelhafte Arbeit geleistet! (falls jmd die namen der Sprecher kennt droppt die mal gerne würde nämlich sau gern wissen wer hinter steckt) Also im Grunde kann man sagen: Das spiel ist unglaublich gut gealtert und ich liebe es!

I couldn't remember the first thing about it apart from the art style, but it made enough of an impression that I instantly recognized it when it appeared on the Steam's upcoming releases list. I immediately wanted to replay it. Let's put it like this: the Steam edition does not seem to be much different to the original free release, but it's so cheap it doesn't make much difference. As a bonus, you get to add it to your library, relive your memories from 20 years ago, get some achievements, and realize that indie games have come a long way since 2005. I suppose it must be down to the game engines being more developer-friendly than ever, and also the fact that video game stores have opened their doors to any and all developers, regardless of their budget and clout. And so "The White Chamber" does not impress me as much as it used to; I've been spoiled by dozens of small, focused and well put together indie games. That said, it still has unmistakable character. The aesthetic is strange and grungy, obviously inspired by 80s-90s anime, but different: I sense a kind of roughness that's hard to describe, but which makes the game stand out. The sound is certainly oppressive, though sometimes just through sheer volume; I'm used to audio leveling being way more consistent than this. The puzzles are fine. I remember that as a kid I was able to complete this game in 2 hours without a walkthrough. Today, as a 30+ year old with a short temper, I had to resort to a walkthrough twice: once, because I missed a very tiny interactive spot where I could insert a battery, and second, because I missed that I was able to open the freezer door just by selecting the 'Use / Pick up' action (I can't understand why the character won't just open it automatically if it's not locked). So it's not really about the puzzles being obtuse, but about the interactions being badly communicated to the player. That said, the game is very succinct and there are only a couple of locations to visit, so even if you get stuck, you can still try to click on every pixel and you'll figure it out. OK, and how about the story? The story is the one aspect which has aged the most, I think. Horror games on PC were a bit rare in 2005. These days, the market is so saturated that no one is clamoring for more of the "I-just-woke-up-with-amnesia-and-I'm-exploring-a-hostile-environment"-type tales. All in all, nothing about "The White Chamber" strikes me as really great or really bad. It's an OK little indie game in a time where we're lucky to have tons and tons of OK little indie games. It's very cheap and it takes less than 2 hours to complete, so if you have some free time on your hands and you're looking for a spooky point-and-click game, it might stratch your itch.

The only negative about this game is that it's not longer and has more storytelling to offer.
But I believe the price of the game reflects that.

The White Chamber is a visually striking and charming original indie game from the 2000s.
while having a bit of jank and questionable replayabilitiy for the sake of like, 10 achievements you can get for the few achievements, but I'd say playing this game blind is prolly you're best experience with this.
It's a fairly direct storywhen it comes down to it and the mystery gets a lil bit too directly pointed out to you and some parts of puzzles feel like they should be fitting around other ways or only accessible after getting through the "events" and these are pretty short lived for how visually striking they are and honestly don't do much in terms of causing any "danger" to the player, only being completely visual. That being said they are still really good for small team being made. The english voice acting from the main character is a bit mildly toned out to the situation, like most of the cadence is a bit but it's not the worst thing ever. There is a choice for it to play with german voice acting. For 2 dollars this is not a bad experience at all.
Also the main ending you're probably gonna end up getting is the ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ 2005 thing ever once you put everything together.
I was only 7 when the og game came out and despite the my level of exposure to the internet at a young age I wasn't fortunate enough to experience this back in the day. I found this through a Wikipedia rabbit hole and it sounded interesting so I gave it a shot. Really captures the dark creepy vibes of anime and horror-inspired 2000s internet culture. Took me back to my Newgrounds and DeviantArt days after school during the flash player era (it was the best/worst of times). Shoutout to the devs for letting me connect with the weird internet kid within me that I didn't fully embrace as a young 'un. I enjoyed the similarities to Japanese VNs and RPG maker titles I've come to enjoy and the vibes akin to Event Horizon. I enjoyed getting all the achievements as well as the trading cards and level 2 badge, something I don't often do but felt like I should with a rare title such as this. 10/10, recommended for both internet veterans who experienced the original and terminally online Gen Zers such as myself.
On one hand, this is a cool little adventure game with notable Silent Hill vibes. The puzzles are fairly involved and item-heavy but always intuitive, which is quite an achievement, while the art style is very unique (where else can you find a space station with hand-drawn meat walls explored by a Yu-Gi-Oh character in an outlandish punk outfit).
On the other hand, it ends way too quickly and abruptly, with a bare-bones story that just tells you things when the time comes instead of building up to them in any meaningful manner. Looking back, there’s very little connection between what happens at the end and everything you do before it, making most of the game look like a random collection of horror beats without any narrative subtext, even though the finale clearly implies one.
Also, in contrast to the main puzzles, the ending conditions are really unintuitive, placing importance on a few minor actions that could be easily mistaken for more puzzle parts, so it’s a toss-up whether you get the good end, the bad end, the worst end or even the non-sequitur comedic end (though I guess this too can be considered "the Silent Hill way", plus the game clearly wants you to play multiple times and watch most of them anyhow).
"The grey tower" side story gets a bit more in-depth with sci-fi worldbuilding but also goes sideways, hinting at a different interpretation of the main events yet never fleshing it out enough to enhance them.
I have big respect for the team who developed the white chamber, especially since they did it back in 2005, when indie games were barely a thing, and I’m glad it arrived on Steam after all these years. But in terms of recommending it to an average player, this niche classic falls a tad short in my book.
loved this game through and through, the art style and overall vibe scratches a very particular itch that few games can for me. the only vaguely negative thing i feel about the white chamber is that it was over too soon.

An absolute classic.
This is a very short, concise game that has a surprising number of secrets and easter eggs. The visual style is definitely a product of its time, but it's still very unique and visceral. It's a shame that we never ended up getting the remaster we were promised many many years ago, but this is the closest we're going to get.
Also, P.T. stole the whole "fridge hanging from the ceiling that has gross stuff inside it" from this game.
Short, sweet, eerie and thoroughly enjoyable. Quite a pleasant steal for the price it is. While I never played this when it first came out, it is ALWAYS good to see a meaningful re-release of older games. The Grey Tower material included with this gives some added context that enhances the game while still retaining some mysteries.
Overall, it creates an interesting setting with enough world building to leave you wanting more without having obnoxious puzzles (though a tad bit of pixel hunting for some of the interactive elements). Would recommend wholeheartedly!
Extremely stylish point-and-click adventure game that I saw way back but never actually played until now. I loved it but it can be aggravating that a few items are jokes that have no usage besides hidden text. These two items are the extinguisher and soda, in case you plan on playing. Otherwise, wonderful little title with a lovely artstyle that perfectly captures the early 2000s.

I remember playing this over a decade ago now. Never will forget how uneasy and tense it made me feel, trying desperately to get the good ending. With the remaster project from 2014 going basically nowhere, I was extremely happy to see this gem get put on Steam with some of the enhancements promised back then. There IS the free version still available from back then but I was more than happy to send a few bucks the dev's way as a thanks for the memories from it alone. May have been some uni project practically reeking of mid-2000s internet culture, but it became a cult hit as a freeware horror title on the burgeoning indie horror scene and it should be treasured for all those reasons and more.
As for the game itself having been years since I played it, it holds up very well despite its age. There are some bugs, and the age is apparent, but it it still well worth the time investment.
Here's hoping the old Studio Trophis folks do well in all their future endeavors

За открывшейся дверью - заляпанная кровью комната управления и отключённые терминалы. Так начинается переиздание небольшого квеста 2005 года.
Сама игра представляет собой смесь фантастики и хоррора. Основной набор вдохновения явно черпался из "Silent Hill" и фильма "Сквозь горизонт" (даже есть прямые отсылки), но сама история всё равно довольно хороша и неплохо работает над созданием нужной атмосферы. После игры ещё можно ознакомиться с аудио- и текстовыми заметками "Grey Tower", касающимися предыстории событий в игре. Жаль, что разработчики не смогли интегрировать их непосредственно в игру, но имеем что имеем.
Геймплейно "TWC" представляет собой классический point'n'click. Две функции на правой кнопке мыши - осмотреть и использовать, много собираемых предметов (часть из них я так и не использовал - не знаю, задумано ли так или я что-то упустил). Отдельные действия влияют на концовку (их несколько). Плюс в паре моментов можно и умереть, отправившись загружать ближайший сэйв (хотя игра и старается предупредить об этом). В целом, ничего сложного, но и без превращения в спиномозговую бродилку.
Яркий мультяшный стиль и внешний вид героини-альтушки под старое аниме поначалу кажется немного странным, но всё же имеет свою изюминку (художник, к слову, многим должен быть известен по анимационной короткометражке "TIE Fighter"). Оформление уровней добротное - ключевые вещи не теряются где-то на фоне. Настроек разрешения, правда, в игре нет, так что от чёрных краёв никуда не деться. Звуковое сопровождение хорошо дополняет происходящее, а вот озвучиванию главной героини не хватает эмоциональности в нужных местах.
Приятное хоррор-приключение на пару часов за небольшую цену. К покупке рекомендую.
Studio Trophis' most well known game, The White Chamber. Man, I remember playing this back in 2007 when it was new. It's a short adventure game with multiple endings (8 if you include the ways to die in this game), and it's a good one. There is also supplementary material (which has been included) called The Grey Tower. What is not included here, but is on the website, is the White Chamber source code. It's just a lil under 400 mb, if you want to see the materials and code that went into making this. Also on the site (but seemingly not included in this release) is some special art, like a pinup of our lovable protagonist. Although a couple of them are part of the end-game screens.
I'm really glad to see this one get an actual Steam release, it's such a good game that I'd hate to see it get lost like so many other indie games on the internet. And I think more people should get to experience this creepy adventure game. And at less than the price of a lunch, how could you go wrong?
Absolute history, a blast from the past. I remember stumbling on this game in the back when times. Blew me away what was available on the internet then, and I'm glad to finally get the chance to support the devs on this one.
A fairly simple point and click adventure game, with a few creepy twists. Also one of the first instance of multiple ending that I remember so bonus point there.

This game surprised me with how unsettling it was at certain times. I remember reading about this game on some reddit thread and decided to buy it because it was only $3. It can be cryptic at times and you may need to consult a walk through at times like I did. However, the visuals for the environment are surprisingly disturbing and the hallway sequence is downright frightening. For a 2005 game that was originally made in flash, it is impressive that it is so creepy all these years later. There are obviously some dated elements of the game, but I personally give it a pass. The animated cut scenes are also really smooth and satisfying to watch. This game is really a hidden gem and if you buy it on sale for like $1 it will be worth your time.

I only heard of and got this game from randomly seeing it on recently released on steam, never saw it mentioned on any games sites. Not finished but is a fun neat little horror game. It’s an isolated horror remake of an infamous well received flash game with new endings and content, its basically a point and click puzzle game with a heavy anime aesthetic that reminds a lot of Yu-Gi-Ho oddly enough. Game is very isolated, seems you never come across any other living or unliving person on the space station. Great little game and literally only $3!

Vintage indie horror. Was fun back in the 2000s and it's enjoyable even now. Can be beaten in 2 hours and change if you want all the endings.

Classic 2000s Point and Click Horror
A short and sweet horror point and click, well worth the price of admission if you are a fan of the genre. I remember playing this back in the day, so it's great it finally got brought to Steam and includes some extra goodies, including a full audio drama giving the backstory.
A classic, very nostalgic from my teenage years. Gives a mix of SH's psychological horror and Dead Space's isolation/dread through an anime lens. This runs great on Steam Deck

Не, ну это не игра, а тупо база. Всем фанатам квестов с хоррор-тематикой и с неоднозначным сюжетом советую. Правда игра скорее рофл, очень короткая и к тому же большая часть концовок юмористические, однако эстетика графики и в целом идея очень понравились.
Подобных игр не очень много, и мне приятно видеть, что о них всё ещё вспоминают и даже перевыпускают.
Купилась на скриншоты по этой игре и не пожалела, провела приятные два часа в поинт-энд-клик игре с элементами бодихоррора и отголосками дедспейса! Жанр не отталкивает, графика очень сочно выглядит, особенно порадовали видеовставки. Одним словом берите.

Этот проект вернет вас во времена 2005-2010 годов по цене стакана кофе. Плохо это или хорошо зависит от того, испытываете ли вы ностальгию по тем временам. Изменений в игре практически нет, а это означает, что комфортного интерфейса или нормальных настроек не подвезли, а FPS будет пробивать отметку выше 4К и способа это пофиксить на данный момент нет. Кроме того, если вы не знакомы с Point&Click квестами тех лет, и свойственным им проблемами, то также не рекомендую сюда лезть или она тебя сожрет.
Тем не менее, это хорошая, атмосферная история на 1, максимум 2 вечера. Если вы готовы дать ей шанс, несмотря на всю её неказистость на фоне более современных проектов, то она точно вас не оставит равнодушным.
P.S. Тут нет автосейвов, поэтому не забывайте про сохранения, если не хотите начинать игру с самого начала после одной из смертей.
P.S.(2) Грустно наблюдать, что внимания эта игра получила меньше, чем другие проекты, над которыми работал этот разработчик.
During the early 00s most of the game developers were just figuring out how to distribute their games over the internet. The potential was clearly there, but it wasn’t until later in that decade that we will see a true boom of digital distribution and a huge boost in indie development popularity. Possibly due to that, a lot of the smaller independent games released during that period were free and often were quite open and honest about their influences. In case of the white chamber, the game originally released in 2005 as an expansion of a university project of a small team, the biggest influence was Silent Hill. The series were quite alive and well at the time and it wasn’t too long since SH4: The Room was released. So seeing a “Silent Hill in space” as a concept was really fun. But it’s been 18 years since – does the game still hold up?
the white chamber is a quite short horror themed story driven point and click adventure game that is still available to download for free in it’s “Definitive” version from 2008. With this new version released on Steam titled “Anniversary edition” and having several updates and fixes, an integration of a backstory audio drama the grey tower (that was first hidden in game files and later available as a separate download) and some little new features. It doesn’t really change much from that earlier version, although apparently there are a few new secrets I didn’t discover, and as such remains basically as it used to be. And it isn't the remastered version that was once announced, years ago, and has never come to be.
Which is perfectly fine, as the game still has a really neat tale that mixes horror and sci fi in a way that isn’t anything new (even for 2005), but still well delivered. The sound design remains pretty good, although the mixing has always been quite poor. The visual style is… well, not for everyone, but it works for the game. And the script is a bit too talky and tryhard edgy at times, but it’s still entertaining. And the horror scenes that the game occasionally throws you in still look nice. While the adventuring is mostly solid and fun to go through. There are a couple of buggy moments that remained unfixed, a couple of moments are a bit too dependent on you randomly wondering around after doing some story actions, but overall it’s a pleasant experience even today.
Would I recommend the white chamber in 2023? Sure. It’s simple, it’s short, but it has its charm and its still adorable to see such earnest attempts at doing a Silent Hill story that tries to have its own identity, despite borrowing so much from its influence. And as I said last year, as far as the mood goes, I appreciate this title over Signalis, as odd as it may sound.
I love the Sphere/Event Horizon vibe this game gives.

This is a neat point and click adventure game. For the most part, it avoids the pitfalls of many other point and click adventure games with regards to puzzle design and actually delivers a pretty reasonable suite of brain challenges. Admittedly, there are some times where the game doesn't highlight important intractable objects to you, letting you miss important parts of a puzzle.
The atmosphere is quite good. It's oppressive and moody, which is carried not only by the impressively stylized art, but also the sound design. There are various sequences in this game that actually took me by surprise and left me a bit disturbed.
For the price being asked, this is a pretty great deal that is definitely worth checking out.
This game is a crazy blast from the past. I remember trying and failing to get this to run on an old computer of mine back in high school. I never got very far so being able to play it now is awesome! The art style in this game is so weird... it's simultaneously simplistic and noisy af. I love how unique it is. it's certainly creepy too. Young me loved this and current me is very nostalgic for it. try it out if you think it looks interesting! it's certainly one of a kind.

Played this before, so as of writing this my playtime is small since I bought it just to support the devs, but I ABSOLUTELY RECCOMEND THIS GAME. It's on the shorter side but I find it TERRIFYING, one of my favorite point and click games out there and I love its horror, I think about it all the time.
Awesome to see a little expanded section for "the grey tower", which was the audio drama for this game. Not sure about the "remastered" FMVs either, they seemed like they were in the original res, just for those who might not be familiar with the game itself. Just seems so far like it's a rerelease of the original definitive edition with added achievements and the stuff with the grey tower and steam cards.
Either way, very happy to see this game on Steam :)
