This humorous point-and-click adventure has something to say, and it isn't subtle when saying it. It's short and simple enough to at least warrant an honest shot. It is ugly as sin, however, and there are a surprising amount of typos considering the calibre of the writing.
Steam Deck users with poor vision may struggle with the copious text boxes, not to mention one puzzle involving a camera. Protip: use touchscreen controls when you get there.

I never played a Joe Richardson game before. Since his last game Death of the Reprobate came out last year (November '24), the adventure game community already started laughing with the anticipation of laughing with everything the game would have to offer. Instead of playing it immediately like everyone else seemed to have done, I decided to travel back in time (not literally) and play through ALL of Joe Richardson's games available on Steam, starting with The Preposterous Awesomeness of Everything.
After playing for 9 minutes, I got tired of it. I knew the graphic style and character designs would need some getting used to. And yes, that was the case. Also, stupid me got "stuck" by not realizing the screen could sidescroll. So after I don't know how much time and other games went by, I decided to return and lo and behold, the game actually grew on me. I started to appreciate the social, political, anthropological, philosophical satire -- and of course the plain silliness of it all. Though is it really silly? I think a part of me really thinks it's brilliant.
So you play a guy on an island, you find old rocket parts and you decide to engage everyone to build it up again. A couple of other islanders grab leadership, however, but don't really succeed in getting anywhere with society since they take turns in being elected and spend all their time nullifying all progress of their predecessor; basically the way actual politicians conduct their business today.
The game is very short, I finished it in 97 minutes. It has some inventory puzzles, some dialogue puzzles, some main character trickery onto non-playable characters. It doesn't have a manual save function but autosaves whenever you make some progress. Its cutscenes are storybook-style text and pictures that are quite fun to read. Joe Richardson truly is a funny guy who gets his message across.
So in the end, not a bad game at all, and I'm looking forward to the next one, Four Last Things...

Definitely an experience game, that said I would not recommend it for those not after a political satire work. Otherwise, it was pretty f'cking good. I thoroughly enjoyed it and expected it to be crass and frankly, poor quality. It is not.

Decent albeit quite heavy-handed satire. Fun enough for a few pounds but too short to be worth more than that I think.
From squalid survival to sordid society, this short verb-based point and click asks you to lead a bunch of incompetent island folk, and shows us the political system corrupts all.
It's also got silly jokes designed to lighten the mood, unpleasantly-stretched-photo character art and a PewDiePie cameo, so it's an odd mix - as the game itself explains.
I wouldn't say it's the finest way to tell a story, as it relies on rather on-the-nose walls of text to set the scene and advance the story, but it makes its points clearly and got a few chortles out of me.
This was a good early game from the dev: it did what it wanted to do with minimal bugs, but then again it doesn't really have characters you want to spend time with (which is kind of the point it's making).
Definitely worth a play if you're a fan of Joe Richardson's later works, where he really cracked the art that worked best with his animation style, and told the story more subtly.

Rien de compliqué même si c'est en anglais, les "énigmes" sont très simples ; le tout pour desservir une critique littéralement au vitriol de nos sociétés et plus particulièrement démocratiques. C'est un peu dommage, je n'ai pas trouvé de patch en français, même s'il n'y a rien de très poussé, il faudra avoir un anglais impeccable pour saisir toutes subtilités des propos et la satire qui s'y cache. Le parti-pris du design limite creepy peut repousser et faire croire à jeu totalement vulgaire mais il n'en est rien.

It's bureaucracy growing from diapers into adulthood. It's a cage match between nihilism and absurdism. It actually it does have something to say and is a decent enough satire. The wackiness, though, can sometimes get distastefully on the nose. It's adult humor, sure, but the comedic instinct is teen-aged.
I was impressed by the game's cohesiveness. There's a vision here: a distinct graphical and animation style.
So, not much here, but enough to make interested enough to try Joe Richardson's newer games.

Having beaten this game two times in order to get all the story branches, I can say the second play through wasn't worth it, and I should have been out mowing my lawn instead.

Fait en une fois, ça ne dure même pas 1h30. Les deux jeux suivants du créateur, Joe Richardson, m'ont donné envie de tous les essayer. Sauf que si, visuellement à partir du second, il utilisera des peinture de la renaissance de façon hilarante, pour son premier jeu, il faut avouer que la direction artistique est particulièrement laide. Il y a bien certaines gueules qui sont rigolotes, mais dans l'ensemble, c'est presque écoeurant.
Bon, heureusement, c'est quand même très rigolo. Point'n click décalé, ou tout est débile, ça se boucle vite, mais ça demande tout de même un minimum de "réflexion" pour comprendre comment faire avancer l'intrigue. Certaines solutions sont particulièrement déjantées et m'ont rappelé mes belles heures sur Monkey Island. Le ton, ici, est plus british (on le consièdre comme un successeur des Monty Python), un peu méta, mais ça a son ton propre. J'ai maintenant hâte de tester ses jeux suivants pour profiter d'une esthétique bien plus drôle.
Un premier jet quand même rigolo, et pour son prix, on ne va pas faire la fine bouche. Oh, si vous vous laissez tenter, n'hésitez pas à faire la démo accessible depuis le menu principal. Ce n'est pas un extrait de l'aventure, et c'est particulièrement drôle.

As a satire I give it 5/5, but as a graphic adventure game 2.5/5. The aesthetics are very good and the story, as I already pointed out, great as satire. But there is nothing more. Maximum 3 hours of a Monkey Island without pirates.

I admit I refrain playing this first game from the dev until now because of how off-putting and hideous the game looks.
But, honestly, ignore the trailer and the ugly screenshots on the store page. If you played and enjoyed the other games from the dev, play this one too. This is extremely well-made.
Incredible! The Preposterous Awesomeness of Everything has left me utterly awe-struck, and I'm not one to be easily impressed. Move over, 'Fat Baby', 'CATGIRL LOVER' and '地狱矿工 Hell Miner' — this game has redefined the genre of satirical point-and-click adventure and has to be the 'Steam Game Secret Santa' game of the year!
With an art style reminsicent of David Firth, a favourite of mine, and the slight flash of a penis in the opening scene (another favourite, of course) this game stuns from the get go. I would also like to commend the developer on their choice of verbs, this game does truly feature a verb-based interface.
The inclusion of a sexy, seductive, confident and attractive character with the name 'Helen', who shared a lot of my own features, including my name, was at first shocking. Has this developer been watching me? Taking notes on my movements, perhaps? Chalking that up to coincedence, I will draw the conclusion that this developer merely has fantastic taste in names (and women).
Overall I'd give this a pray-for-rock out of ten. They really could have given Anthony a bigger head.

Here, humanity is sticky, ridiculous, and very, very pink in the lips and extremities. It's an apt look for an interactive satire highlighting the greed and stupidity of that too-smart animal we call man. The whole thing is as silly as it is incisive, and quite unpredictable all-around. Be warned that there are many walls of text -- but these are probably some of the most cleverly written text-walls I've seen in indie gaming (not the most likely place for good prose or something so fundamental as [b]proper grammar[/b]), even if they somewhat irritatingly take the place of cutscenes. Hell, I'm somewhat of a wall of text guy myself!

They say all great works of art made you ponder on humanity biggest questions. This game delivers by asking from the first scenes "why are we so stupid?", and it´s a playfull question taken to the extreme in the most fun ways since the game themes are no other than humanity and our interactions with our surroundings. It´s a point and click adventure with multiple endings and a multimeta approach that really makes it stand out.
This game is so dumb and smart at the same time, it needs to be experienced. The layers of satire stack on each other over and over in a fantastic way, the jokes keep coming non stop and they all land, and the whole ending it´s just fantastic, how it plays with both the message of the game and also the conceptions you kind of expect after years of conditioning by every other game made.
For the price it has and the fun you get, this is def a must.

TPAoE is an experimental point & click made by one man who describes himself as an inexperienced "twit with a dream." It doesn't try to have high production value; it prefers to focus its effort in being different. There's no voice acting, barely any music, and it's only 2 hours long. But what it gets right kept me engaged for its entire runtime, even if I can't say I left the experience with some profound takeaway (though it definitely tried).
The writing is good (even if it's in wall-of-text form sometimes), and I enjoyed its satire. I thought the art fit the theme (and budget) quite well, and was one of the strongest aspects of the entire package. The puzzles were dead simple, which is my preference in adventure games (getting stuck for hours clicking around is my personal hell), so i can't complain there.
The satire is the core of what this game should be evaluated on, and though I think it's well written and funny, it's rather ... simple. Themes it satirizes include: "Both political parties are two sides of the same coin; interested solely in maintaining their power", "Politicians lie", "The majority of people are sheep who are too numb and dumb to think anything but what they're told to think by the media", etc. These are topics not commonly covered in games, so I greatly appreciate that they're here, but they're also rather surface level. None of it is particularly poorly done, but none of it is exceptionally well done either.
I had fun with the game though, and I always have to hand it to an artist who's baring their soul. I'll play Joe's other games (already bought them!); curious to see what they're like after this.
This game is either an ugly, basic point and click adventure with puzzles so simple that i spent the most time trying to work out how to get the 'Death by jumping' achievement... Or it's a clever, critical condemnation of modern society, including politics, and the cruel futility of life.
What starts as a slightly odd adventure game, quickly reveals itself as a witty, if a little on-the-nose critique of 'happiness' in the modern world, and the pointlessness of both conformity, and even counter-cultures.
Either way, the art-style is ugly (rather impressively, it's uglier in motion that the screenshots suggest), but has cute overtones of Python, Spitting Image (and perhaps South Park). The sound design is minimal (except for a few musical motifs in some areas it's mostly missing) and there's no speech (tragic, but i doubt the author's budget would have extended to voice actors that would do the game's intent justice). Despite these failings, it's surprisingly pleasing to play, and rarely does it feel like a particular area has out-stayed its welcome.
Overall, I can't help but feel that this game deserves to be played and recommended by more people. I played through it about 2.5x in the 100 minutes i spent with it (mostly to wrap the achievements, though there is some light 'replay' appeal that i don't want to spoil), and at the sale price ($3 CAD) I consider that a price worth paying. I look forward to playing the other two games (which are actually the reason I picked this up).

The game offers some nice graphics and a nice aesthetic, although some ugly glitches here and there, it is pleasant all the same
The game does suffer with some repetitiveness at certain areas of the game but a fun game nonetheless

The Preposterous Awesomeness of Everything is a short (2-3 hours) point and click satirical game themed around humans greediness and ways some use dirty politic tactics to gain ill-gotten-gains they want. The puzzles ain't hard, only twice I had to look hint elsewhere leading to thought in my head "ah, I just didn't realize to check that option too", meaning there's no moon-logic feeling puzzles even when game occasionally gets very abstract with it's story and characters. Only real downside of this game was in my mind lack of voice-acting, though I can fully understand cost perspective of this, given that game is pretty much done by single person.

Silly, pretentious, and funny. A weird critique of human civilization.
Quite enjoyed this game. Funny characters and story. Original art style. Would recommend.
Game didn't solve any of my problems and smelled like lavender soap. I'll give it a thumbs up. Ironically.

- Very unique looking game. Looks like the bits between Monty Python segments
- The music is serviceable, and there is no voice acting

- You're part of a community of dummies trying to build a rocket. The plot follows you fumbling through this process
- The game loses itself a little bit between trying to be satire and also being self-aware
- Despite the philosophical wavering, it's pretty funny

- It's a point-and-click game. That's all you really need to know about the gameplay
- I'll probably come back to knock out the achievements I missed

- You'll want to change your DPI settings (override high DPI scaling behavior) on the game's exe, or the window will be tiny

- [b]6.5/10[/b]. The humor is solid, and I agree with a lot of what the game is saying, but all the self-effacing bits come off as a little trite. Still worth a playthrough if you could use a dose of sarcastic humor
