The Mahjong Huntress is a game that is pretty fun at first, but gets increasingly less fun as you progress.
The gameplay is pretty standard mahjong match, but the design and UI while playing the game is pretty nice. The game also has a few twists to the genre, adding a "hold piece" equivalent option and special abilities that you can use. This provided for relatively fresh gameplay for some time, and I was enjoying myself... until I wasn't. As you progress and the level designs get harder, the game becomes increasingly more and more frustrating because of the level design. There are a bunch of levels that are actually just impossible unless you spam special abilities. Levels have randomized piece placements to a degree, and it really just became a frustrating sequence of restart, restart, restart, restart, restart as you end up playing impossible levels. I went from enjoying the game to hating it really fast.
Overall, this is a game with wasted potential. If the devs had put more care into crafting the level design, this could have been a fun game.

I never thought a Mahjong game needed a story incorporated into it. After playing it, I still feel that a Mahjong game does not need a story incorporated into it. Regardless, the game is pretty fun.
Ah, yes, now I remember why I bounced off this game in the past.
I really do love mahjong, but this game has no difficulty settings, randomly deals you crap boards that have no moves from the start of play, and scores you on how fast you make matches, with a very short timer. Not great- mahjong as a "twitchy" game, if you have sow reflexes, while filling up your "energy" meter that lets you use power-up extremely slowly while eating huge chunks of the bar if you use them. You have to restart over and over and over, and it's just not fun. I'll keep trying since I want to finish as many games on my backlog as possible, but I really can't recommend this game for anyone looking for a chill and relaxing game of mahjong.
I get what they were going for, but I just can't recommend this game to any of my friends who want something casual and zen- this ain't it.

A decent mahjong game with a lots of different layouts to solve.
This game very VERY quickly devolves into completely impossible layouts, and relies on you to repeatedly replay levels in order to get crystals you can use to essentially pay to win your way through the levels. Not entirely sure why people think that's fun, but I certainly don't.

When we were going through our separation, I felt lost and unhappy. I was self-destructive. One day, I was so angry with everything spiraling out of control that I punched a concrete wall in a moment of overwhelming emotion. This resulted in breaking my fifth metacarpal in my right hand—the hand I worked with, played games with, and used to carry my children to bed—the hand I desperately needed to ensure I could continue providing.
Upon learning the severity of the self-inflicted damage, I became almost suicidal. Keep in mind that just a few months before this, I was the happiest man, with no history of depression or anxiety. I had never experienced anger outbursts, nor was I the type to break down and cry, but I was in a tough situation that truly prevented me from seeing the light on the other side.
With nothing better to do, I looked for a game I could play WITH ONE HAND while recovering. Somehow, I stumbled upon this game and read some of the comments. I decided it was worth a try... I must admit I didn't beat the game, nor did I play as much as some of you. In fact, I may have played this game for only a day or two. That being said, after doing so, I had a new joy and hope for life. I managed to leave behind the pain and suffering that had been thrust upon me. I could experience the joy and happiness of other people. I relaxed for 5 ♥♥♥♥ minutes listening to this music, long enough to realize that I would be okay.
After realizing this, I turned off the game and went back to work. My hand hurt a lot, but I was motivated. I stopped feeling so sorry for myself and became the father I needed to be at that moment, not the weak boy I was behaving like.
Today, I am close friends with the mother of my children. We don't fight, argue, or say hurtful things to each other. We are parents and friends.
Now I have 3 children. My third child is, wait, ALSO 4 YEARS OLD. The woman I am with was going through a very similar situation at the time of my separation, and we just unexpectedly stumbled into each other's lives. We have been dating for a year and are very happy together.
Moral of the story: you never know what life has in store for you, and if I had given up when all odds were against me, I wouldn't be where I am today. This silly little game helped me realize that.

nice and easy to play
The Mahjong Huntress could be mediocre/average casual game, but these combination ruin any fun you could have,
1. The board doesn't seem to be solvable where you ends up with so many "no more moves".
2. You can power-ups (such as shuffle everthing) in order to create new moves.
3. You need energy to use these power-ups.
4. Energy comes from gems which is very limited. The game doesn't explain in detail how to get more energy/gems, but it seems you need to grind for it by playing level you've beaten.
I run out of all energy and gems after playing about 10-11 levels and grinding previous level isn't fun for me. If you already own this game and like casual mahjong/matching tile game, you can try using cheat engine to increase amount of energy/gems. But if you don't, just seek different game.

Nachdem ich zwei Anläufe brauchte, um in den Flow zu kommen, waren die 60 Levels der Story nach 8h durch. Den Rest wollte ich nicht mehr spielen, da es immer nach dem gleichen Muster abläuft. Anfangs so schnell und so viel wie möglich abräumen, damit der PowerUp Balken aufgeladen wird. Macht man das nicht so, dann wird es immer eng und kommt später in eine Situation, wo man keine PowerUps hat. "No more moves" und das Level ist nicht geschafft. Das war mir schlussendlich zu stressig, die restlichen Levels zu spielen und die 100% Errungenschaften frei zuschalten. Optisch nett anzusehen, der Soundtrack eintönig, spielerisch zweitklassig. Abschließend kann ich es nur deshalb empfehlen, weil ich dafür im Sale 0,49€ zahlte und damit eine paar nette Stunden hatte.
if this game didn't have the powerups, it would be a great game. the story is intriguing and the mechanics are classic, but all of it is ruined by ideas that didn't feel like it got enough playtesting/feedback.

I like to occasionally play Mojang to relax and unwind, but this game is beyond frustrating solely because you run out of moves countless times. This is especially noticeable on the challenges that require you to complete a board without using any power-ups. You will make about five moves before you are suddenly at a standstill with no power-ups to help you and are forced to restart the level over and over and over again until it has completely sucked the enjoyment out of it.
I thought this game would be easy and relaxing, but as I progress, it becomes increasingly tedious, to the point where it feels like a chore and I'm not enjoying the game at all. I do not recommend this game for anyone in its current state. You will only become stressed and irritated if you decide to get into it.

Honestly, I don't remember where I got Mahjong Huntress (MH). I didn't win it from a giveaway, but maybe it was available for free on Steam at some point, or was part of a bundle I'm forgetting about. Either way, mahjong games don't tend to interest me that much. However, it was perhaps the fact that I didn't have any that made owning at least one of them somewhat interesting. Ultimately, I tend to like dabbling in all game genres, as good design can make any of them fun. Its design is adequate, but the main issue with MH is actually its programming.
[h1]Gameplay[/h1]
From what I understand of Mahjong, it's original design is more like a four-person card game, which is popular in countries like Japan. That version hasn't really made its way over to the USA, but using those tile designs, it's been transformed into a matching game. I don't believe many people do that in person though, it's just a different variant of PC solitaire style games. Either way, long story short, taking a stack of tiles, they all have to be cleared off by finding matching pairs. Although some tiles are visible, only ones that could easily be picked up are in play, IE ones on the edge or the topmost layer of a stack. As someone who has long put free PC card games behind them, this style of gameplay isn't really that interesting to me. It's just a little too basic and bland.

This style of gameplay works best with a mouse, though I could imagine a way to make it playable with a controller. I didn't wind up trying to play the game that way, as using my mouse was comfortable and responsive. When trying to quickly make matches it's easy to misdirect the mouse cursor, but I attribute that to my own clumsiness more than bad controls.

A hesitant bride-to-be discovers her male suitor has disappeared in the middle of the night. Although she may not want to marry him, if he vanished without a good reason, this would be a scandal and cause her greater problems. She starts sleuthing around the estate, gathering clues as she tries to figure out what became of him. The clear picture of a werewolf on the cover of the game couldn't possibly expose the potential plot twist, right? That would be a sarcastic question if I knew the answer, but I got stuck partway in MH because of bugs.

Since the actual meat of the gameplay involves a board of stacked tiles, MH looks about as well as it could. Flashiness wouldn't really make the game look better, and unwarranted movement would just distract a player's concentration. There are still at least two issues I noticed. The first is that one of the words on the tiles has a typo, and with how basic a word it is, it makes the game look clumsy and unpolished. Secondly, perhaps because I'm not more familiar with mahjong, I find it hard to easily distinguish between the patterns. Some of them look very similar to each other, so I end up making more mistakes. Additionally, when in-between boards, the story progression has graphics that remind me of a HOG, which isn't a compliment.

Truthfully, I found the music overbearing when first starting the game, and reduced the volume. I would say that I enjoy how the music sounds, but it's a bit too lively and dramatic for this kind of gameplay. It's fairly distracting unless you really lower the volume. For those moments when the story is progressing, such music would be just fine, but for the puzzle genre, its too dynamic. The sound effects are also a bit over the top when tiles clear off the board.

❌ The algorithm for dispensing the tiles isn't made so that it's always possible to clear the board, or if it is, it's only through absolutely perfect play. However, since you have no way of knowing what's underneath the tiles on top, you can very easily move the wrong tile and block yourself from making anymore moves.
❌ Most of the challenge stems from how well you can distinguish between tile designs that look similar to each other. For instance, the ones with seven and eight dots look alike until you get a better POV on them.
❌ I found the difficulty curve inconsistent, as some board patterns are arbitrarily easier or harder than others.

🔍 Try to remember what tiles are available on one section of the board when looking at the other areas. That way you can compare the two and see if there were any matches. In some sense, MH is somewhat of a memory game.

Initially, I thought MH's cardinal sin was its algorithm, since it isn't designed to prevent the monotony of unwinnable patterns. Such a strategy to extend the lifespan of a free game is okay, but nowadays we're all too busy to have our time wasted with situations doomed to failure. I'd much rather have cleared all the boards available without this frustration, even if it wasn't very long, then come across boards that take longer because I have to keep restarting them. When I got stuck on a board that I just couldn't seem to beat, I encountered the real design failure of the game. It's buggy and broken.
You can expend one of the crystals you obtain to fill up the power bar and activate special abilities, which I tried more than once. However, when you activate a power-up, it sometimes breaks the game. An essential, basic feature of the game is enough to make it so I can't clear the board because it's broken. There's no way I could ever recommend a game programmed that badly, especially when I'm not even attempting to strain the game's capabilities. All I did was play it!

Honestly if you're on steam LOOKING for mahjong for some reason, this seems like a pretty good experience. I only played 5 rounds and didn't run into a bug with the sorting algorithm, but I'm not a big mahjong player.

Muy bonito y muy bien ambientado... Pero estoy cansado de que los niveles estén diseñados con el propósito forzarte a utilizar constantemente los poderes para superar un simple nivel.

Full disclosure: I got this game on sale for .49 cents USD. And honestly? Despite all the glitz, storyline and music, it's honestly boring. I felt hustled through each level, which is the opposite of what a good game of Mahjong should be. I should be admiring the tiles, sipping my coffee and relaxing.
Instead, every stage was some new power-up or locket doodads I wanted nothing to do with. Again, rushing you through, but piling more stuff on your plate with each level. Then breaking up the action to fill you in on whatever is going on in the visual novel half of the game.
The end result just jangled my nerves and reminded me of those games where you set a timer and the pieces pop off the board if you aren't fast enough. If you want a casual game that's trying super hard to be an action game, give it a try. But casual game fans won't find a relaxing experience.

i tried, cant like this one. the tile placement is almost exclusively impossible, forcing you to use these powerups wich are in a silly system and in turn making you fail. idk if this will be functional on a touchscreen, but then this might be a bit more fun. if only it had a difficulty setting to combat the poor tile organisation...

- It is impossible to get full star rating on several levels because of the bad tile placement and the requirement for the bonus objective (unless using one or more crystals)
- The game has multiple bugs (language errors, huge white blocks in story, shifted bars on boss levels, shuffling makes the tiles go blanc, pendant block not useable, etc.)
- No feedback or quickfix from developers after large amount of people have pointed out flaws in the game
+/- It's an ok game to waste a few hours on when you're too lazy to play something else and like Mahjong
Just stay away from this game, it isn't worth the time or money.

It's a seemingly good looking Mahjong game.
But unfortunately: It wasn't polished enough.
There's a lot of bugs that you will experience.
My entire game crashed at least seven times.
With the price of 5€, I expected much more.
At least a bugless experience would be dope.
But sadly, that's not what you are paying for.
The developer will probably just never fix tis.
And therefore it's a waste of money for real.
Steam offers plenty of better Mahjong stuff.
You should really avoid this mess, It's awful.

Да, в этой игре отличная графика, хорошая музыка, есть сюжет - это привлекает. Если сильно хотите сыграть - попробуйте, может у вас удачи побольше будет. Хотя лучше поищите что-то похожее. У меня не получилось пройти 3 уровень.
Это одна из тех игр, которые сейчас наводнили мобильную платформу: они выглядят круто, даже сюжет немного спойлернули - интересно стало, но вот гемплейная часть сплоховала. Здесь плохо с рандомизацией. Мне даже попалась комбинация с одной парой в самом начале! То есть заведомо не выигрышный вариант. Нет, я понимаю, проиграть 10 раз на 10 уровне. Но не 30 раз на 3-м!
Хорошо, что эта игра мне досталась почти бесплатно - не так жалко выкинутых денег.

Игра практически сразу начинает выдавать нерешаемые комбинации фишек. Один-два раза это нормально. Но когда я перепрохожу каждый уровень 20 раз очень быстро начинает задалбывать. В других комментариях увидела ссылку на то что игра - переделка мобильной гриндилки. Очень похоже =/

Good old mahjong with decent scenario. It is not something new, it is what we used to play 10-20 years ago, mini games with really good 2D graphics (sometimes 3D, but not that good), and with some decent campaigns.
Mahjong, it's just mahjong. If you like some Chinese board game then it's for you.
There are many levels in the game that are impossible to finish. This isn't exaggeration, this is by design. There are even responses from the developer in the discussion commenting on levels that aren't possible because there aren't enough matches and there are random pieces without a match in the level. If you know about Mahjong, it is about making matches to finish it, so having odd pieces without matches is a problem. Requiring people to use power-ups earned from other levels that you can run out of to complete broken puzzles is pretty poor design. I was enjoying the game for the first few levels until this glaring flaw became quite apparent. It is a real shame and a common enough issue with even a quick glance at the community discussions that I cannot recommend this broken game. I wish it was simply an issue of levels being difficult and tough to solve the puzzle, but that isn't why the levels become a problem to solve sadly.

Fun, but is really needed to understand the programmers logic in order to reach at the end of this game.
This is a very addictive game that’s great for relaxing in-between other games. Nice graphics and sound/music, I usually skip the story bits but may be of interest to some. Linux support is a big plus. Don’t think twice about grabbing it on sale!

唯一的问题就是这个游戏模式
三维麻将牌消消乐，必须先消除上方暴露出来的才能继续消下面的麻将。本来这种模式并非本游戏首创，倒也没有特别坑爹，但是后面的关卡难度越来越高，每一关刚开始的时候暴露的牌非常有限，把能走的步数走完以后可能在四五步之内就无路可走而死掉。而且水晶充能非常难，过关无奖励，死亡一次以后前面的充能会消失，稍有不慎就会卡关，完全就是受苦游戏，魂系连连看。
另外，我十分怀疑系统随机生成的一个牌堆究竟能否保证有解！我猜游戏作者压根就没有考虑解的存在性的问题，才会导致游戏难度这么高。

Но она по духу напомнила весь тот хлам, которым сейчас наводнены игровые площадки для мобильных телефонов. Переполненная ненужным хламом искуственная пробирка, в которую тебя сажают и заставляют задротить, пока не наберешь нужное количество очков, чтобы пройти дальше. Мусор.

My first Mahjong game. Really enjoyed going through the levels and the little intriguing story. However, do not consider this game as relaxing. Some puzzles as well as earning all achievements can be quite challenging. But I had some fun nonetheless. Took me ~13h to finish it 100%. I recommend it.

The board is often unsolvable, they missed the most basic rule of Mahjong games. The board should be solvable. Instead they give you powerups and tell you to use them. So the powerups are not optional or extra they are essential to beat stages. But you don't have nearly enough juice because you will be getting stuck in every stage due to the total random board layout. If you can't create a working algorithm don't try to make a game around your half-assed broken one.

The game is unbalanced and it becomes impossible to progress past the 8th board. The 7th board is only passable with extremely lucky RNG. The power ups do not help with the game progression because it is impossible to build up the power meter that charges them since the board runs out of moves after only a few turns. The pendant mechanic only buys one or two additional moves before there are no more moves left.

The Mahjong Huntress is a mobile app that's been dumped on Steam as a lazy, greedy cash grab. It's a Mahjong themed puzzle/tile matching game. The core gameplay is Mahjong tile matching, with a few "powerups" that let you match tiles you otherwise might not, and a simple "plot" involving, well, some woman hunting clues about some missing person.
While the game plays well enough, there's a very specific problem that stops me from recommending it. Mahjong tile matching is possibly one of the most casual forms of gameplay known to gamers, and yet the developers here felt the best choice would be to remove the casual nature by including flashing lights, powerups and beat-the-clock frantic tile matching action. One step away from tile matching towards Unreal Tournament.
The inclusion of the time-crunch meter and the powerups is intended, of course, for the mobile versions of the game to include microtransactions... yes, apparently the greed of soulless, morally vacant "developers" has gone low enough to add cash grabs to tile matching.
It's sad to see the entire premise for a game being thrown out for the sake of "tabletification". Mobile gaming, much like console gaming, demonstrably makes gaming worse, and this is a fine example of that.
Also, you can play Mahjong tile matching games for free online, so why pay for this?
There's something very very wrong with this game. I know what it is: basically it's not a mahjong game but a "refill powers" one; don't buy it before watching some videos on YouTube!

Primele 7 nivele au fost ok, pe unele a fost nevoie să le rejoc pentru a obține toate cele 3 stele, dar la toate am reușit fără a folosi puterile speciale. Apoi vine nivelul 8 pe care cu greu am reușit să-l termin folosind din plin puterile speciale, nici vorbă să obțin măcar 2 stele. Iar citind discuțiile se pare că e ceva normal să nu poți termina nivelul 8. Parcă dezvoltatorii nici nu au încercat să joace nivelul ăla, că e evident că au gafat cu ceva.

Anfangs recht simpel und plötzlich kommt man wochenlang nicht weiter. Wenn man keine "Moves" mehr hat gibt es keine Möglichkeiten Hilfe in Anspruch zu nehmen außer nen Restart.... könnte auch ein Bug sein, keine Ahnung.
I really wanted to like and recommend this game, but I simply can't do it. The graphics are good looking, there're some cool songs and sound effects, the overall gameplay is acceptable, with some power-ups and everything and there's even a story as a background to keep you engaged. So, what's the problem?
The random premise of the game, combined with some relentless conditions that have to be fulfilled in order to advance, turns the experience that it was supposed to be fulfilling into something completely stressful. In other words, if you're expecting to play something casual and relaxing, you're gonna be extremely disappointed.
If you'd like my advice, save your money, or better yet, save your time: Don't give this one a try.
The necessity of power-ups kind of sucks all the fun out of it.

I agree that the gimmicky nature of the mechanics (pressure on combos, powerups etc.) does not mesh well with what I expect from a well-crafted Mahjong title.
And after trying it I now understand what the "No more moves" reviews meant...

Super gra. Tylko dlaczego do licha ona jest na czas?. I osiągnięcia na czas. Przecież ta gra wymaga skupienia. I zrób tu combo 20, za pierona sie nie da, chyba że na początkowych planszach. I podświetlenie nieaktywnych klocków, za mało znaczące i ciężko przy tych wzorkach odróżnić aktywny-nieaktywny.
Ale mimo, że jest jak jest, gre polecam, jako rozrywkę, bo wbicie archive jest dość ciężkie
