The Last Door: Season 2 – Collector’s Edition is the sequel and the last entry in the series, closing the story. Like the previous season, it includes four chapters. This time, they are longer and feature a greater number of puzzles. One of the most noticeable improvements on this season is the visual upgrade, the pixel art graphics are cleaner and much easier to read than in the previous game.

This sequel maintains the same dark atmosphere and the slow paced gameplay style of its predecessor. Sometimes, the puzzles in this game are unclear and less straightforward than before. They now rely less on environmental and tool-based solutions and more on logical deduction. The puzzles are still fun, of course, but they are now somewhat harder to figure out, and it is almost inevitable to get stuck on one or two of them while trying different combinations or approaches.
On one hand, this sequel introduces a new cast of characters with an approach that feels more detective oriented than the mystery or cosmic horror focus of the previous season. The story centers on the search for the previous protagonist and the uncovering of the cult that took him away. On the other hand, the storytelling in this season is much weaker because it focuses so much on side stories that barely connect to the game’s main objective and often feel disconnected from the overall story.

The game’s environments and visual assets are more detailed and visually appealing. The sprites are clearer and easier to recognize compared to those of the previous season. Previously, game elements such as notes, keys, or tools were more difficult to distinguish from the environment. This issue was greatly addressed in this season and stands out as one of the most noticeable improvements.

Like its predecessor, the soundtrack remains faithful to the game’s tone and creates a great atmosphere along the chapters. However, the sound design in this entry feels unpolished and with an inconsistent quality. Sometimes, the sound effects are buggy or play too quietly to be noticeable, while at other times they are so loud that they become distracting and even annoying.

Superior to season one (which I was already vibing with) in all aspects. Very intriguing mystery, and depending on how much you‘d want to dig into it or dissect it, potentially fascinating on a personal and philosophical level. Fittingly sorrowful and beautiful music. I liked that the chapters had larger areas with several points of interest/locations to revisit for the grander puzzle to be solved within that chapter. Wonderful visual style in spite of and because of its simplicity.
Played this right after Hob‘s Barrow, which left me wanting more folklore mystery adventures. Was a great choice.

Solid game just as the last series. I can see some rushing of development with the last episode, given the hype around the concept of the "Last Door", however, the puzzles are intuitive and very nice. I like the effort put into the game story and the atmosphere it conveys. It not only represents well this period in history, but even the way medicine, especially psychiatry is depicted, not very glittery. The story is neatly packed, however at the end it did get me confused on how Devitt's role intersects with Du Pre's intentions and how the whole thing becomes adversarial and what not.
Those seeking wisdom must first know their own foolishness.

A pesar de cambiar de protagonista siendo éste más soso, esta segunda temporada concluye los eventos del primer juego. Aunque la primera temporada está bien y puede plantearse como autoconclusiva con final abierta.
Esta segunda temporada sigue la línea de su predecesora, con sus gráficos pixelados de la vieja escuela, puzles en ocasiones bastante enrebesados, ambientación tenebrosa y tensa... en resumen, si te gustó la primera parte, la segunda es continuista. Así que... a jugar y vivir el terror de hace 2 siglos
Though the protagonist don't have the same vibe than the first game, this secuel is quite a nice conclussion of the saga. More polished, though with the same creepy old school mood and tough puzzles. If you liked the first season, don't miss this one either
[h3]Eight Pixels, No God, Season Two[/h3]
Season Two begins where Season One left off... except now everything’s louder, wetter, and somehow more Catholic. It immediately hands you a cryptic note, a violin stab, and the emotional weight of inheriting a blood curse from someone you’ve never met.
The environments still look like trauma sculpted from geometry homework, but now there are more colors... mostly ones associated with mold. It’s damp everywhere, and you’re never more than a heartbeat away from either a ghost or some bird that’s about to scare the ♥♥♥♥ out of you.
Gameplay remains the classic “click into despair” loop:
You click something.
It ignores you.
You click somewhere else.
Something happens and you’re unclear whether this means progress or punishment.
The puzzles are less “logic” and more “emotional terrorism.”
They’re built around intuitive leaps no functioning adult should be expected to make. You’ll stare at a doorframe for five minutes before realizing the solution was to click a pixel that barely exists. One mistake and you’re back on Google, scrolling through walkthroughs written by people who transcended flesh years ago.
Narratively, Season Two widens the cult...
bigger conspiracies, deeper sadness, and emotional revelations delivered with the enthusiasm of a dying priest.
Characters appear, confess something tragic, and vanish before you can emotionally consent. Everyone has consumption, psychic rot, or a Victorian mental illness that would be instantly cured today with one glass of water and a therapist named Bree.

Fantastic story and world building, and some moments where I genuinely got creeped the hell out and was like 'ah!'. Almost as good as the first one, but I feel that it had a bit more backtracking and some puzzles that were difficult to solve without looking up walkthroughs. Overall though I would definitely replay to try to get more achievements and a different ending, and I'm not a completionist so that says a lot.

La saga Last Door me ha gustado muchísimo como conjunto, pero para esta segunda parte, tengo varias quejas. Primero de todo, me parece vergonzoso haber dividido el juego en dos. Han cogido el juego, y lo han dividido en dos para que te gastes 10 euritos mas. Por otro lado, la trama acaba cogiendo un camino que cuesta seguir la historia y se vuelve un poco extraño las justificaciones argumentales. Por el resto, una gran novela visual como saga, lo recomiendo muchisimo.

[u]The Last Door: Season 2[/u] continues directly from the first game, which you really must play first. It has a similar feel and structure, with fantastic music and sound that heighten the creepy atmosphere. The puzzles are simple, and I never needed help. The story concludes the mystery well. If you liked [u]The Excavation of Hob's Barrow[/u], this offers a similar folk horror vibe with a distinct pixel art style.
Follow up to the first, it builds on all the things good in the original while furthering the story. Again, a mix of cosmic and gothic horror. This time we follow Jeremiah's therapist, Dr. Wakefield as he searches for his wayward patient, delving into the otherworldly mysteries in the process.
Like the first game, this is all done in a very pixellated style. Very distinct and charming, though also lacking in visual details that can be hit or miss. There are occasions where more visual detail might have served the game better, but for the most part, the art style delivers well.
Carlos Viola continues to not disappoint with the melancholic soundtrack and the rest of the sound adds well to the atmosphere with very few instances where the volume rises for a scare.
Puzzles remained interesting, although it seemed I could readily end up in situations where it wasn't clear what I had to do next. When I eventually found the answer, it became obvious in hindsight in most cases, but there was at least one that might border on being too obtuse. The rest remained comfortable brain teasers.
[spoiler]The story comes to its conclusion and delivers decently on the mysteries it has been building. While there are a lot of elements that remain mysterious, the Lovecraftian aspects make it acceptable. Though by that same token, one could argue those elements were left underutilized as a result. While the conclusion came together somewhat swiftly, it never felt "too fast."[/spoiler]
[spoiler]It's entirely possible to play this game without the first. They do recap the important bits. But it will likely feel lacking without the first half to compliment it.[/spoiler]
All in all, quite satisfying. If you like these kinds of games or at least a spooky tale of forbidden knowledge, you might enjoy this too.
전작 엔딩보고 좀 실망했지만 두루뭉술한게 러브크래프트니까.. 짜임새도 괜찮았으니.. 2편 이어서 하고있는데 중간에 목발맨이 뭐 달라고 불편하게 서있는데 내가 다른데가도 얘는 계속 서있다. 심지어 달라는 손모양 그대로. 등 이런 유기성이 많이 떨어짐. 스토리에 집중하려고 나머질 버렸는데 스토리도 어차피 러브크래프트식이겠지.

Love this game. I must’ve played it first on a web browser when I was a teenager and the setting changed my life. I love creepy brooding England old college occult ♥♥♥♥. It’s so subtle and creepy and cool. It’s not a so easy it’s boring, I’d say the puzzles are balanced. Most of the game’s appeal is exploring the setting and so it’s the best experience the first time you play it. And the music…it’s amazing that such a beautifully haunting gothic story can be told through pixels and piano music alone, and I think that’s why this game is so great. At times it’s legitimately scary without relying on shock, it’s just very unsettling in the way that an old creepy mansion would be.
Великолепный квест! Я не помню почему забросил вторую часть, наверное из-за духоты что и куда девать бегая по локациям, но с гайдом и чисто изучая всё и везде, читая реплики наслаждаясь атмосферой получил кайф.
Музыка... не пропустил ни одной заставки, хоть и хотелось видеть разные арты в разных эпизодах. Обожаю эти струнные, навзрыд.
Правда... я не понял до конца твисты с персонажами и символизм. Буду разбирать по контенту сообщества. Может быть это из-за того, что переводил самостоятельно с английского и уже позабыл события первой игры (а пересказ краткий и поверхностный, чтобы цимес уловить). Так и не понял в самом конце зачем нужен корень, плакат, восковая челюсть.
Вроде бы серия сюжетно окончена, хотя есть струнки, которые ещё хотят играть. Но как только сейчас я узнал, у разработчиков были новые игры... Blasphemos! Да как это я мог знать про неё, но не знать, что это от создателей The Last Door?! Пиксель арт перешёл и в новый проект, хотя уже и не такой свежачок. Но это вполне наследник атмосферы и загадочности. Только два последних проекта какая-то измена самим себе, да и отзывы не радуют.
Я остаюсь в недоумении и негодовании, что разработчиков знают не по The Last Door, а по Blasphemos. Теперь будет интересно опробовать испанскую бойню, понимая кто её разработчики.

Jeremiah Devitt vanished without a trace, so the main focus shifts to Dr. John Wakefield, his psychiatrist from the first season. Deeply unsettled by Devitt's visions and the occult background, he turns for help to his colleague, Johan Kaufmann, who is apparently more knowledgeable in this area of expertise (he for sure knows more about the events than he should). Together, they set out on a journey following in Devitt's steps, soon realizing that some secrets should be left forever uncovered, otherwise everyone's safety would be at risk. But [i]The Veil[/i] was already penetrated, and [i]something[/i] has set its eye on Wakefield; there is no other choice than to face this madness head-on. Wakefield will have to brace up and challenge his fears to be able to step through [i]The Last Door[/i].
Sequel to the excellent adventure [i]The Last Door[/i] retains all of its predecessor's qualities. The atmosphere of Victorian England is yet again ominous, unsettling, and quite creepy. The oppressive mood of being watched follows Wakefield even on our trip beyond England's borders; nowhere is safe. I am gonna repeat myself, but I have to highlight the soundtrack again, which is simply exceptional and does a great job in creating the right tense atmosphere. The pixel graphic remains simple, but is slightly more detailed than the first game. The story is very catchy and you find yourself pushing for more to be able to get to the bottom of this occult society! Also, the characters are nicely written, and I really enjoyed the interaction between Wakefield and Kaufmann (even if brief)! The inspiration in the works of Edgar Alan Poe or H.P. Lovecraft is dripping from every word. <3
The whole game stays divided into four episodes with extra minisodes. Each will take us to a different location where we will uncover bits of past events closely tied to Devitt and his friends. We will get some answers on things shown in the first game, but that doesn't mean we won't ask new ones. There are two endings depending on the last choice you make, but as there is no manual saving option, you need to replay the last episode to see the other one. The game is now longer, but still very captivating from the beginning to the end. Second playthrough doesn't get boring, as you will see behind the curtain, and some of the events will make even more sense than before.
Although both endings work as a closure to Devitt's story, I can easily imagine a third season!
The second season bewitched me even more and I have enjoyed every second of it. Wakefield is a sweetheart, even though he consists of black/white/red dots. The simple pixel graphics just intensify the excellent writing you will find in both of the games. Yet again, I can easily recommend it to lovers of adventure games, mystery, and horror stories.
If they ever decide to once more open [i]The Last Door[/i], I will step through it without looking back. <3

Me ha gustado casi tanto como el primero. Está muy currado, la música es buena, el guión es enrevesado para que vayas hilando y tal pero bastante bien. Quizás se me ha hecho un poco largo a partir de la mitad pero es posible que sea casualidad (hay días y días). Pero vaya, mu bieh.

JOGÃO. Pegou todos os quesitos técnicos do primeiro jogo e aprimorou majestosamente, apesar de eu não ter achado o término do último capítulo tão grandioso como o da temporada passada, senti que faltou um refino na narrativa durante esse capítulo final. No geral foi uma ótima experiência como um todo, daria para ter feito um capítulo a mais facilmente e não só isso, também uma terceira temporada, gostinho de quero mais que alimenta sua imaginação a cerca de uma continuação. The Last Door é imperdível para quem gosta de mistério, investigação, ambientação vitoriana e horror lovecraftiano.

Esta segunda temporada de The Last Door no consigue llegar al nivel de la primera por culpa de un diseño de niveles confuso, puzzles peor diseñados y una historia no tan bien llevada.
En cualquier caso, si disfrutaste de la primera entrega merece la pena ya que atesora algunos momentos terroríficos, y al menos proporciona un desenlace digno a un guion un tanto enrevesado.

So, this is a pretty good conclusion to the last door saga so far. Like it clears up most of the questions by the end, but still leaves some questions purposefully unanswered. Now whether that's the reason for if they ever wish to make more of these in the future or just leave them out for some scare factor, it works either way. This one also had the toughest area in both games that is the manor area in episode 2. For because of its length and amount of puzzles, there was time when I was going back and forth, up and down the stairs, and much more to just complete and check on a few puzzles. Though as frustrating those parts were at times, for most of the part the game managed to engage me throughout and had some dang good atmosphere, music, art, and writing.
While I love both the last door games as you can see, if asked to choose, I will definitely prefer the first game over the second, but that doesn't mean that I don't love this game either. It is not even on any objectively parameterized way (as if mathematically scoring each aspect of both aspects of the game like music, writing, and so and so) but for like, I just would love to forget the first game once more and experience it once again, because my god, some of the atmosphere there (and even in season 2) is mind blowing.
But yeah, cannot reccomend the last door series enough.

Como cabe esperar, el estilo visual pixelado se mantiene, donde la simplicidad de los diseños sigue siendo una herramienta perfecta para crear una atmósfera inquietante y aún más siniestra que en la anterior entrega. Esta secuela presenta una mayor diversidad de escenarios que se sienten cada vez más fragmentados y desquiciados. Los ambientes desolados y decadentes, desde las frías y lúgubres calles victorianas, hasta inquietantes hospitales psiquiátricos y paisajes anómalos que parecen sacados de un sueño roto, consiguen plasmar la sensación de un mundo en descomposición. Todo está impregnado de esa atmósfera cargada, donde lo inerte parece tener vida propia, y lo que no se dice es más aterrador que lo que se muestra.
Es una sensación donde lo cotidiano se convierte en lo extraño y lo incomprensible, siempre dejando al espectador con el presentimiento de que algo está mal, pero sin poder identificar exactamente el qué.
Un aspecto que no podemos pasar por alto (ya imaginaréis cuál) es su banda sonora, que al igual que en la primera temporada, se convierte en un personaje más de la historia.
Las melodías continúan siendo tan evocadoras y lúgubres como en el primer título, pero en esta secuela se sienten más maduras, más complejas y melancólicas. Un componente esencial para crear la atmósfera opresiva y desesperante, guiándonos a través de los paisajes y recuerdos desolados de nuestro viaje, como un susurro persistente que nunca se desvanece.
Cada tema refleja perfectamente la tensión creciente, la sensación de estar perdiendo el control, de estar entrando en un abismo del que no hay retorno.
Al igual que en mi reseña del anterior juego, insto al maravilloso Carlos Viola a publicar estas indescriptibles y maravillosas obras musicales en formato vinilo (LP).
En esta temporada, se nos presentan personajes que aportan una mayor complejidad, con un trasfondo oscuro y un destino incierto que se entrelaza con los eventos sobrenaturales que empiezan a desbordar la razón.
Al igual que en las obras de Edgar Allan Poe, el terror se encuentra en los rincones oscuros de la psique humana, en los recuerdos olvidados y las voces susurrantes que nos persiguen cuando más lo necesitamos. No solo exploraremos el pasado de Devitt, sino también el de aquellos que lo rodean, sumergiéndonos en las profundidades de las relaciones humanas, las obsesiones y los horrores de la mente.
Y es ahí donde el horror Lovecraftiano se hace presente, entremezclándose con el del anterior autor. El miedo en The Last Door: Season 2 no es solo lo que podemos ver, sino lo que está detrás del Velo: el conocimiento prohibido, las fuerzas de la otra realidad que se extienden más allá de nuestra comprensión. La verdad es mucho más aterradora que cualquier monstruo, y cuando finalmente se revela, nos deja con más preguntas que respuestas, como si estuviéramos mirando algo que no estamos preparados para comprender.
En definitiva, The Last Door: Season 2 es una experiencia absorbente, una mezcla de horror sobrenatural y misterio que se mantiene fiel a su predecesor, siempre con ese aire inquietante que caracteriza a la serie, dejándonos a nuestra suerte en una espiral de incertidumbre, donde la línea entre la realidad y la locura ya no existe. No hay respuestas definitivas, solo una creciente sensación de horror, un recordatorio de que, a veces, el peor miedo es el que reside en nuestra mente.
Desde luego, es una historia que jamás olvidaré.

What's there to say about this game?
The soundtrack and sound design are A+, the story writing is fantastic, and there are some optional extra lore and exploration things to find.
If you like a good mystery and point and click games this one and the first season are a must have.

Uma continuação exelente do primeiro, com uma história extremamente intrigante do começo ao fim, me fez ficar preso no jogo até o fim. Os puzzle com uma dificuldade média, não muito fácil mas também nada frustrante. Uma trilha sonora impecável de bom, um jogo point in click que vale MUITO a sua experiência!!!

The continuation of the previous installment (See my review of that, it is much of the same)
The new things explored in this season are more interesting and a bit of truth is gleaned at the end. The puzzles feel a bit more obtuse unfortunately but still nothing guide worthy.
I was unfortunately a little disappointed by the ending. A game like this should have a pretty open ending with the Lovecraft and Poe vibes, but I wasn't really impressed with how this one did it. Worth the sale price which is like 2 dollars.

Excellent game, creative puzzles, engaging story.
However, two major issues on Linux: object IDs are present in the top left corner of the screen, which is quite distracting. And, the achievements don't pop up, even though it acknowledges them in-game. Apparently the dev's didn't ship the right libraries for achievements. Unfortunate, since the first game didn't have either of these issues, that the devs won't/haven't fixed this.
Plagued by the same problems as the first one - an incoherent mess of a story, loads of cryptic dialogue, backtracking...At least this time around they included multiple locations accessible through a map, yet not being able to 'teleport' instantly to another location using a map icon is a wasted opportunity. Another thing I liked more this time around is the fact that there are a few more characters this time around, making the game feel a bit less desolate and dreary. 6/10
As a sequel to the Last Door it wraps up the story but explains very little. This is by design though, it's a story about trying to touch the incomprehensible. Maybe in the future we'll get another game, but for now we just have to be satisfied with an ending.
As always, the sound design is amazing, great at setting the scenes.
It's mostly a walking sim/ visual novel style game. But it's really impressive how they managed to create a cool vibe with a handful of pixels. More atmosphere than most triple A games. I recommend it if you are a fan of cosmic horror/ lovercraftian type stuff.

Un jeu culte pour les fanas de l'oeuvre de Lovecraft. Par rapport au premier opus, les énigmes sont plus "tordues", plus subtiles mais l'exploration demeure immersive.
Un vrai plaisir à découvrir et redécouvrir.

Phenomenal experience. More of the first season, no drop in quality whatsoever. Maybe an increase actually, some of the camera effects they worked in here with such a limited pixel count was beautiful. Music is outstanding, writing is intelligent and deep. Would absolutely love for the developers to make another but they will most likely leave it here and focus on another Blasphemous.

Supertolles Grusel-Adventure!
Der zweite Teil der Serie ist noch mal besser als der erste Teil und zeitgleich auch der Abschluss dieser Mystery-Geschichte.
Anders als in Teil 1 spielen wir nun die meiste Zeit über einen der beiden Personen, die dem Ganzen auf den Grund gehen und das Verschwinden der Personen untersuchen.
Es gibt wieder 4 Episoden, die nun aber ein ganzen Stück länger sind und sich auch auf mehr Örtlichkeiten erstrecken.
Man bekommt also von der Länge her ein "vollständiges" Adventure, wie man es von größeren Produktionen allgemein gewöhnt ist.
Grafisch setzt man zwar noch immer auf die etwas zu grobe Pixeltechnik, aber man hat das Gefühl, dass da bei der Inzenrierung allgemein noch einmal einer draufgesetzt worden ist.
Aus künstlerischer Sicht ist das Spiel also echt eine Wucht und viele Szenen, Einstellungen und Abläufe sind wirklich toll gemacht.
Das Spielen macht also wirklich auch in Verbindung mit der erneut überwältigend stimmungsvollen Musik sehr viel Spaß und die Geschichte ist eine sehr willkommene Abwechslung und für sich genommen quasi einzigartig.
Die Steam Errungenschaften sind ein guter Anreiz, diese auch erreichen zu wollen.
Dazu sollte man sich aber vorher bei jeder Episode einlesen, worauf man ggf. zu achten hat.
Auch sollte man im Userverzeichnis die automatischen Episodenspielstände zwischenzeitlich immer mal wieder als Kopie ablegen, um möglicherweise später noch einmal darauf zurückgreifen zu können.
Denn wegen der Länge der Episoden und auch den zahlreichen Zwischensequenzen und Einblendungen etc., kann man da nicht mal eben durchrushen.
Die Schwierigkeit der Rätsel ist gegenüber dem ersten Teil nun ein wenig angehoben worden, auch weil man nun ein wenig mehr Laufwege und Möglichkeiten hat, alles in Allem ist das aber auch für Einsteiger noch gut machbar, also es gibt keine harten Nüsse, wo man sich die Zähne dran ausbeißen sollte.
Weiterhin sollte man darauf achten, dass durch Aktionen woanders etwas passieren kann, und man manchmal einen Auslöser braucht, ehe man etwas machen kann, oder etwas weiter geht.
Nur so kann man halt der Story treu bleiben und gerät in keine Sackgassen.
Mir hat das Spiel wirklich jeden Minute sehr gut gefallen und ich kann es jedem Adventurespieler eindeutig empfehlen, auch denen, die vielleicht eher Grusel- und Horrorspiele in einer 3D-Umgebung mit einer realistischeren Darstellung bevorzugen.
Fazit: kaufen, kaufen, kaufen! :-)
