Absolute blast!
I used to play a lot of Ken Griffey Jr. Presents Major League Baseball as a kid on the Super Nintendo. Super Mega Baseball 3 fills my nostalgic cup many times over. The cartoonish style of characters doesn't really do it for me, but the mechanics are solid. This game is completely worth full price and will provide hundreds of hours of gameplay.

This game was fun for a while but got boring fairly quickly. I haven't played it since Jan. 24, 2024. The characters are just to cartooney.
As of the time I make this review, this is the only major baseball game on Steam right now as The Show hasn't been ported yet (if ever), the RBI series is long gone, and I doubt Konami will actually make a proper MLB version of PROSPI. That being said however, This is a genuinely good game and a genuinely fun experience that I have put plenty of hours into. It also has some of the most satisfying yet simple controls out of any sports game that I've played in the past 4 years, and that includes the show. Do yourself a favor and check this guy out, you won't regret it.

I pride myself and think of myself as a man of faith, as there's a drive into deep left field by Castellanos and that'll be a home run. And so that'll make it a 4-0 ballgame. I don't know if I'm going to be putting on this headset again. I don't know if it's going to be for the Reds. I don't know if it's going to be for my bosses at Fox.

I'm so glad I found this series before EA got it's franchise killing hands on it. I've spent hundreds of hours on my console playing this game, designing team logos and uniforms, creating custom characters and leagues so it was a no brainer when it went on sale for my new PC. If you remember RBI baseball (or any baseball game) from waaaaaaay back and always wished there was stat tracking and what seems like endless customization options, you've found your game. Very highly recommend! Wish the devs would make a hockey game like this!

As someone who has spent over 25 years playing every baseball game i could get my hands on, this one takes the cake for me. Its not a simulation of pro baseball but rather a genuinely fun approach to the pastime. The way they scale the difficulty makes it super accessible to all skill levels and I've really enjoyed ticking the 'Ego' up bit by bit as I've improved. (Usually playing in the high 60's now) The pitching mechanics are simple but effective and dropping a breaking ball on the corner of the plate for a called strike is oh so satisfying. If you're baseball fan and are on the fence about it, just pull the trigger. You wont regret it.
Also, screw the 4th installment. EA touched it and it got cancer.

If you're looking for a review on this game you've come to the wrong place, but if you're looking for an outstanding pie recipe you've come to the right place.
Ingredients:
1. 6 tablespoons unsalted butter
2. 1/2 cup white sugar
3. 1/2 cup brown sugar
4. 1/4 cup water
5. 1/4 teaspoon cinnamon
6. 1 pinch salt
7. 5 apples - peeled, cored and sliced
8. 1 pastry for double-crust pie
Directions:
1. Preheat oven to 425 degrees F (220 degrees C).
2. Combine butter, white sugar, brown sugar, water, cinnamon, and salt in a saucepan over medium heat. Bring to a boil, remove from heat and set aside.
3. Roll out half the pastry to fit a 9-inch pie plate. Place bottom crust in pie plate; pour in apple slices.
4. Roll out top crust into a 10-inch circle. Cut into 8 (1-inch) wide strips with a sharp paring knife or pastry wheel. Weave the pastry strips, one at a time, into a lattice pattern. Fold the ends of the lattice strips under the edge of the bottom crust and crimp to seal.
5. Pour butter-sugar mixture over top of pie, coating the lattice, and allowing any remaining sauce to drizzle through the crust.
6. Bake in the preheated oven for 15 minutes. Reduce heat to 350 degrees F (175 degrees C), and bake until the crust is golden brown, the caramel on the top crust is set, and the apple filling is bubbling, 35 to 40 more minutes. Allow to cool completely before slicing.

This is undoubtedly the best baseball game on the market as of right now which is a sad reality. Both pitching and batting mechanics are simple and easy to understand but are challenging enough at higher difficulties to make the game exciting. It combines mechanics of more 'realistic' baseball games like The Show with a light hearted, comedic feel that is authentically, Super Mega. I was disappointed that this series' 4th iteration was such a let down but this game still holds firm. The pricetag is far too steep for what it is but there is a LOT of depth in this game if you use all of it. However, a lot of that depth is locked away due to the fact that only 10 odd people play it nowadays.
Buy it on sale and enjoy!
This is a great game to mute the soundtrack, play some of your favorite tunes, sit back and hit some balls. It is a very relaxing game. I don't play it on very high difficulty at all, but I enjoy raising the EGO level slowly, and getting better and better at the game. The art style and the names of the players makes the game humorous, but the gameplay seems quite serious and refined. Not sure how it stacks up against other baseball games, this is the only one I have played, but it seems really well-balanced between a simulation type game and a fun, arcadey experience.
Honestly between this and the newer one (number 4, which is nearly identical except for a handful of added retired real life players you can make a team of) this is about the best baseball game/baseball sim you're going to find on PC. I went in not expecting anything. Something to try and kill about 2 hours of time. but I find myself constantly going back to it for a baseball fix. No it doesn't have the ultra realistic graphics/visuals of the ps5 game the show. But the gameplay is on point and I absolutely recommend giving this a try.

Best baseball game I've played.
CPU catch-up mechanics are extremely noticeable. If playing in a franchise mode, expect to have multiple things due to "luck" not go your way. Fielding isn't as crisp, hitters tend to foul off every two-strike pitch or get a hit, pitches that are blatantly balls are called strikes, the list goes on. You can drop ego down 10-15 levels and all this stuff still happens if you are leading your division by more then 4 games in franchise mode.
In multiplayer, the only issues you have to worry about are the constant connection and frame rate issues. Ever since SMB4 released, it seems the quality of online play against other players has gone down. Issues with pitchers being in their wind-ups and then the pitch already crossing the plate while hitting, pitch location and power being uncontrollable while pitching, balls put into play locked into the pitching screen until play is over, etc.

Occasionally knock out pitchers with a hit. Surprisingly deep franchise mode, good series.
This is a great game. The overall flow of play just feels right. Pitching is particularly fluid; I love the physics motion of each pitch type. I do wish they offered a mechanic for knuckleballs and maybe a small selection of different change-up options, but it's minor quibbling.
The endless tweakability is also fantastic. For fun and giggles, I created a custom league with the entire 1962 MLB teams with actual player names and basic stats. (My dad's favorite sports team ever was the '62 Giants). It's a total blast to send up Mays and McCovey against Koufax and Drysdale.
*Edit -- The CPU AI does a good job of identifying situational baseball most of the time. The CPU pitchers will nearly always pitch around Mays if they can (no one on base, or with runner on base but with 2 outs, etc.). It will situationally have pitchers bunt (I play NL). Baserunning feels just right, with a good mix of solid steals when you time it right, but getting your backside handed to you if you get a bad jump or the pitcher catches you in a timed pitch out. One nuance the developers also got right --- playing baserunners from the outfield. It's rare to have a throwout at the plate or getting caught trying to stretch a double where it feels like the computer is cheating. Your good decisions on the basepaths are rewarded, and your bad decisions are punished appropriately.
The Ego settings may take some time to dial in. After about 3 games I pushed it to between 32 and 35, but recognize that within another week or two will need to push up again.
*Edit -- Pushed ego to between 45 and 50 and the game still feels just a *tad* too easy. My biggest worry about pushing to higher ego settings is the computer's proclivity for fouling off pitches. This creates a weird negative feedback loop with the very limited number of pitchers you can keep on your staff. You end up tiring out your limited number of relievers with these long, drawn-out plate appearances by the opponent CPU. I think the game logic needs to have a very slight adjustment to just have batters put the ball in play more (player and CPU). When you've only got 8 pitchers on staff and your starters' pitch counts can't really go above 90 before their performance falls off a cliff, wasting foul pitches is somewhat punitive. If pitch counts and fatigue/stamina were more controllable, it wouldn't be as a big deal. Or if they'd just open roster size up to the standard 25. I know they went with one more player per roster in SMB4 (22 total vs. 21 total). Not sure why you don't just go official MLB roster size, but what do I know?
All that said --- take any minor complaints with a grain of salt. I'm loving this game and give it a wholehearted recommendation.
