I like the exploration and combat system, just pay extra attention to the difficulty of the mission you are about to tackle or you might get stuck in an unwinnable mission and you will have to load a previous save, you CAN abort some missions, but not all
It feels like the dev(s) got the "chance to hit" and the chance to miss switched. 4 out of 5 attacks (it feels rather like 90% though), miss the enemy. No matter the difficulty grade. Otherwise it's a rally cool game. I like most skill trees on most classes, i like the progression, I like the hacking part, the amount of content, and the synergy between certain classes in the team. But missing the enemies 4 out of 5 times is extremely frustrating, up to the point that I often stop playing the game, before revisiting it again.

I purchased this years ago when it went into EA. Played for a bit and then let it fade down the list. Decided to pick it up the other day and dive into it again and I can say that for an old-school dungeon crawler with a sci-fi twist, I'm really enjoying it. The dialog is funny, the combat is as good as this kind of game can give and overall, they just put together a pretty good game. If you like the old Wizardry and D&D style of play, I think you'll enjoy this one as well.
Really a fantastic cyberpunk dungeon crawler. Lots of longevity. The hacking minigame is the best I've seen since Shadowrun on Sega Genesis.
It doesn't look like it does anything that a bunch of other RPG's don't do, but the atmosphere, skills, balance, and unlimited procedural sidequests really make this game work. The sidequests are a bit samey but the overall loop they provide is really good.
The one thing I don't like about Starcrawlers, if I had to say anything, is that it overstays its welcome, A full run probably takes about 30 hours (my hours look really high because I had a couple of aborted runs). Right now I'm level 15 and halfway done, or close to it. At level 15 I've already fully unlocked and developed all the skills I really want or need for my characters and getting those was great. But what's left... not only do the additional skills I'll pick up not match my playstyle, but I won't be able to use them in a battle anyway because you can only have so many active skills at a time. Equipment? I haven't replaced any gear on anyone since I was about level 11.
So I've had fun with it but the progression isn't there. The main quest could probably be 10 hours shorter. I think the last 2-3 hours I'll be playing this because I'm close and I want to finish it, not really because I'm loving the experience anymore... you know that type of game.
It's debatable if it's worth $20. It is worth it on sale though.
A hidden gem of a game. Grid-based movement like old school dungeon master but in a futuristic cyberpunk setting similar to Shadowrun. Very fleshed out writing and dialoge. The music is excellent and suits the theme/vibe perfectly. I bought and played starcrawlers through once back in 2017 ish. Just started playing again in 2025 to play the new game+ and ++. Very happy i dug back into my library. With so few good games and so many clone game being release lately, its nice to play an old school character building hard game that really feels like someones passion, rather than a crappy game only made for money. Overall a solid 8.5 outta 10.

So I've played this game for about nine hours, trying out different classes, and it honestly seems to have infinite replay value. Yes, the side dungeons are randomly generated, and can feel samey, but the fact that each class has nine different background stories that effect the narrative and you can side with different factions, it's honestly a highlight for me. The Void Psyker class, for example, actually feels like you're playing with dangerous forces beyond human understanding, treading the line between power and destruction from your own hubris.
The character class and skill options seem interesting and the the dungeon movement feels good, but interaction/puzzle solving feels like a needless chore on Steam Deck. The in-dungeon cursor seems to be misaligned. Clicking on an object like a switchboard or a chest does nothing- you have to find some vague space off to the side of what you're actually trying to click. Very discouraging when dungeons frequently require you to interact with specific things on specific tiles. I have to keep second-guessing whether I'm in the right spot.

I have played this game off and on since it was in early access. While I have been frustrated with this game lately, I have finally figured out a strategy that gets around the most frustrating elements. This game will be irritating and ragey up until you figure out how to properly use every class you pick for your crawlers.
Experiment with the different classes and figure out the best combination for you. I used to always use the same four classes and finally started to experiment with the other ones and realized their combination was better than my traditional one.
A masterpiece of a game you get back to multiple times.
Great balance, fun puzzles, marvelous dialogues, awesome humor and easter eggs, captivating story, sleek albeit cheap video effects and widescreen support, plus music you don't ever need to turn off.

I've been playing this game on and off for years. It's the quintessential DRPG game that I think every DRPG enthusiast needs in their library. It's just a fun game to play through with unlimited replayability and a great spacepunk theme.
Do you like Etrian Odyssey? Then you will probably like this game. Add in a Freelancer-style Faction system, replace the "harvest enemies for parts and craft your gear" with a Diablo-style loot method. And remove 80-90% of the grindiness.

Do you like Legends of Grimrock? Then you will probably like this game. Add some NPC's to interact with between missions, and switch it's combat to an Oldschool-RPG style. Also, while your party can only be 4 people, there are 8 to hire, and between missions, you can trade members in. And... add in a Freelancer-style Faction system and a Diablo-style loot method.
Graphics and sound are decent (nothing special, nothing jarring).
There are a couple bugs to watch out for; none were game-breaking, though do remember... if the "close this window" dialogue option is missing, the ESC key should do the job as well.
Simple game, simple recommendation. 7.5/10.

Has a good base, but feels unfinished. There is no motivation or story to keep me playing past a few hours. The rep system is interesting but they could have spent less time on that and developed a coherent and engaging storyline instead. There is little in the way of a tutorial, so picking weapons, armor, or skills seems arbitrary.
Nice bones, just needs to be fleshed out.

If you've ever played the old Shadowrun on Genesis, this game will keep you entertained. Lots of fun so far.
Combat (especially decking) could be faster and needs an autobattle button, but that's about my only issue with the game. It's a nice little dungeon crawler otherwise.
In terms of the base game, Starcrawlers is an amazing experience. They creators have gone to painstaking efforts to deliver a sci-fi romp through a corporate run space society. The factions for the most part all have their own story and operate on their own goals, and even though a random generated dungeon is inevitably going to re-paper skins, each place feels unique in its own way.
I also have to praise the characters, where I can't recall playing a game where the classes legitimately feel unique and as if they're playing into the role. Whether it's your hacker throwing cyber attacks on enemies, your tank lobbing bombs and sending out spread fire, your robot charging up his arm cannon and shutting down from errors, your engineer who's building robots that are dancing all over the screen, you're ninja whose every attack has him flying about in front of you, your gunslinger whose engaging in showdowns, or your psychers, who tap light and dark energy and unleash it to devastating, every class literally feels like it's supposed to.
My only gripe with the game is the endgame. Don't get me wrong, StarCrawlers is an excellent 40-60 hour affair which is totally worth the price of admission. The problem is, especially if you';re an achievement hunter, the game has been stretched into a 250 hour+ grind which highlights its failings due to the ambition involved. It feels like a lot of this was just tacked on, because when you start playing alternate faction stories, you realise the plot beats are mostly identical, with your liaisons literally saying the exact same lines. Loot, especially armour and shields, becomes completely pointless, whereby the high end stuff from level 28-30 in the original game completely wallops drops in NG+ from the 30-50 range simply because the epics are jam packed with resistances that greens and blues don't have. And while the immersion when you're first introduced to the game is top-tier, once you've been forced to run 500+ dungeons you begin to realise that the variation between enemies and settings is rather superficial.
Is this enough to say the game isn't worth it? No. But there is a part of me that wishes they'd have forsaken NG+ and high grind achievements in favour of coding three unique stories for whatever faction your StarCrawlers decide to align to.
I thought this was quite fun. But my favorite part was that you could re-spec the Talents so could tweak your people all around.
The game is great. Don't buy the soundtrack bundle. The soundtrack gets you an empty folder. My emails to their support have gone unanswered and their website gives me a security error when I try to visit it.

Настолько странного баланса я еще не встречал, что цифры урона и цифры здоровья (плюс щитами сверху помазано, боже мой) различаются даже не в разы, а на порядки. И чем дальше, тем хуже, в последних миссиях вы как от зубной боли будете кривиться от каждого энкаунтера, потому что это снова одни и те же 10-15 минут унылого прокидывания по кругу уже к этому моменту осточертевших способностей по уже осточертевшим роботам. Я прямо терпел уже, подбадривал себя, мол, надо добить и все равно сломался и дропнул игру буквально на фишишной прямой, подозреваю чуть ли не в последней миссии, где два дрона с голограммами настолько паскудно тратят твое время, что это уже больше похоже на издевательство.

Better than I thought it'd be. For one, this feels like a fantastic way to get into the dungeon crawler RPG genre, a lot of the classic mechanics are modernized and both easier to control and understand. Secondly, this game plays a lot better than just screenshots and video show. The game has fantastic atmosphere, jamming music, and combat/sound effects in general feel really satisfying. The procedurally generated dungeons feel pretty comfy and the specification of each according to the target you're infiltrating really helps diversify the locations. The loot, enemies, and the environment in general will change and it lends another angle to the whole taking sides aspect. The gameplay is solid and pretty easy to understand, with most of the classes feeling powerful in their own right. The random events are also pretty enjoyable and feel surprisingly impactful, in one of them I actually managed to recruit a cyber dog that you can call into combat and exploration from then on. I also enjoy how itemization works, where you don't have to identify an item to know what's special about it but you do have to spend money to unlock all the special traits. I've been playing on hard (or expert, whatever the one before hardcore is) on ironman, lost one run but been doing pretty good on this one. If you're looking for a dungeon crawler that equally juggles chill exploration vibes with tense risky fights with little downtime, or if you're a newer face to the genre, this is a great game to pick up.

Imagine, if you will, that you are a twenty-something little squirt, and someone says "first-person turn-based dungeon crawler" somewhere in your vicinity. And once those words reach your ears and register in your mind, you picture one of those horrific pieces of software that are older than you are. Those games that are comparable in entertainment value to carving your favorite punk rock musician's name into your forearm with a sharpened spoon. But they come from a dark age that your grandpappy must have lived through, when the only pastimes were building barns, going to war, and dying from the plague, so people were content playing them. And as a cold shiver passes your entire body, you offer your praise to the stars that you were born in an age where you have fun videogames to play as you scroll past that tag like it's literally haunted.
This is not that kind of dungeon crawler. It's actually really smooth and intuitive and comfortable and even, imagine this, fun. No manual reading, no asking unsettling 40 year old men for advice on how to build your void psyker lest you get soft-locked when you reach the second boss, no running in circles trying to find the 3 pixel sized button to open up a pathway and progress to the next main story objective. None of that. It just works. But, like, unironically. Try it.

Having finally finished my first playthrough, I can finally say this: "Yeah, it's pretty good." 👍🏿
It's also a bit addictive, so take breaks to avoid burnout. If you aren't willing to, do harder missions than you normally would.
One thing it does really well is, during story missions, surprise dahell outta me. I'm talkin' "wtf, y'all actually did that?" ♥♥♥♥. Just "what in the actual hell, that looks so dope compared to the usual" vibes. These changes really help spice things up.
Oh, do yourself a favor and turn on combat's fast mode in the settings. It might end up feeling like normal speed halfway through anyway and you'll wish you could make it faster. 😅
A fantastic little turn-based dungeon crawler that I always seem to keep coming back to! This game really helps scratch the loot and dungeon crawling itch that I get every now and then and coming back to it has been rewarding every time with the multiple endings and the many different unconventional classes you get to play around with in your party. A word of advice for anyone having any difficulty in the early-mid game is to make sure you work on focusing on increasing your rep with specific factions and upgrading your gear (especially your weapons) to keep up with the difficulty curve. Also if you find any party members lagging behind in levels you can fire and rehire them to match the level of your highest level crawler (note: this does not work for the party member that does not get hired through the "hire crawlers" section). Overall this game is a great for fans of dungeon crawlers and for the price is a game you can sink many hours into!
A good modern blobber.
Starcrawlers is an interesting game. It punches above its weight and in many ways I think it's more ambitious that it should have been in others. Still, it provides near endless content in a smooth and slick presentation.
It starts with a team of four (out of seven classes) heading to a derelict space cruise liner in a basic salvage mission. I thought this was just a one-off intro but it turns out to be the centerpiece of the game; practically every story mission is a return to the same cruise liner. It makes me think this game was originally intended to be a megadungeon just exploring that one place. There's even a mission with a special dimensional shifting mechanic, just for that one part of the cruise ship, and then never occurs again. The final battle is also a baffling wtf and I don't think storytelling is this dev's strong suit.
In between this is a mission based game with procedural content, almost like Shadowrun in space. You take on contracts for various megacorps against their rivals and rake in money and loot in the process. Once you beat it the level cap increases and you can do it all again with even more challenge and rewards, and then do it again with an even high cap. New game plus plus. It feels otherwise detached from the story and almost like two separate games crammed together. But it's plenty fun running these missions and experimenting with the game's highly inventive classes and combat system.
The game does have some flaws:
-The faction reputation system is horrid. Every mission you gain rep with some faction and lose it with another. However along the mission if you loot most treasure you find you will lose even more rep, but not gain any. This compounds the reputation loss until everyone in the galaxy hates you. The only way to avoid this is to just not pick up any loot, which sucks.
-The classes have a lot of depth and options but some abilities and combos are so strong they dominate way too easily (void psyker). Once you figure out a tactic that works you pretty much repeat it in every battle for the rest of the game.
-The limit of 5 active abilities per character makes leveling past a certain point feel meaningless.
-Too dependent on good loot. Your weapons determine all your damage but sometimes I went 10 or more levels before finding an upgrade. The shops are unreliable and loot in missions is pretty sparse.
Overally a good game. The developer went on to make a single character roguelike set in the same universe. It looks interesting but it's not what I was hoping for, I'd like a real Starcrawlers 2.

Stunlocked in a random battle in the third mission?!
The first thing I did in this game after making a character was reading trying to read the codex (effectively the in game manual). Its entries should be scrollable but they are not. Literally click on "BASIC" and the text cuts off.
Game released over 6 years ago and something this basic is still there? Until this bug is fixed I cannot recommend a game without this level of basic polish.
Pretty fun Might and Magic style RPG with a big slathering of Sci-Fi on it.
I've played until my four party members reached level 13ish and think it's a good moment to write down what I like and what not so much. I will ignore the fact that this game isn't finished yet. I have only played with a party of four: a smuggler, a soldier, a Cyberninja, and the prototype.

Right now (Dec 2023) I would only recommend this game, if it's still around 3 to 4 bucks. Like it says on the front page, this is not a finished game, and while I consider it okay-ish to pay 3 to 4 bucks for a few hours of fun, I would not pay more than that for what is there at the moment.
Early access IS still a strange concept to me; it makes me feel like a Windows user who is expected to live with an unfinished product until its creator has found the time and ressources to finish it (I'm not much of a beta tester when I pay for software. If people pay ME, it's a different story).
The many good elements are, sadly, accompanied by a game world that seems lifeless and dead with a highly repetitive game play; every mission seems to happen after everyone went home to have dinner, and the main hub is nothing more than an abstract map of clickable doors and objects.
To be fair, right before this game I re-played Fallout 4 (where a dead world feels really alive compared to SC's): there, I can SEE NPCs go about their business, I can HEAR them talk, I can remember individual ones because they have character. IN SC? Not so much, I can't even remember one name (oh, yes, one: Luna), because they have yet failed to touch me and make me care.
From the start, there are dozens of corporations that have different names but no other distinguishing qualities. They seem to be there only to have some faceless, characterless opponents to p*ss off by working against them. Being "hostile" with a corporation does not seem to make a difference, but maybe I just didn't notice the assassins hired by them to get back at me or that their products were more pricey on the market...
The mission that killed my whole team was supposedly a rescue mission, but I got attacked by worms and security robots against which most of my party members' attacks were useless. Since I didn't think of stuffing my backpack(s) full of medkits (which aren't always in plentiful supply on the market, either), my team was eradicated and I forced back to the main menu. Will I try again? Probably not.
I haven't fully understood a few game elements. Server doors I could never open. Hacking (even more repetitive than regular battles since only a handful of "programs" could be used to fight the three or four different enemy types) isn't explained, so I blindly hacked my way through the different nodes and apparently sometimes managed to open previously locked doors (where?). Why I would ever want to crash a network, is still unclear. As is why I sometimes find keycards that don't seem to be good for anything.
There are several skills that I still do not know what they actually do for me, but the skill system as a whole feels as if someone went for interesting and complex but merely ended up with complicated. I'd rather have less aspects that influence game play if that means that I understand how everything works together. Zeroing, guidance, empowering... all stuff I could probably do without and have more fun.
Actually, I'd love it if the skill system were as simple as the other important part of any RPG; each crawler can have exactly one weapon, one shield, one armor and one accessory. That kind of simplicity is what the skill system needs in my opinion.
But: would that be enough for me to keep going?
Most of us probably know DIABLO or one of its successors where you have your character(s) simply run through the scenery, kill monsters dead and loot, loot, loot. In SC, I am missing some kind of guiding light, something that makes me want to keep going. During my 13 levels of playing, there was exactly one main mission and several side missions available, which, I suspect, were mainly for grinding and helping to develop your crawlers to a point where they can tackle the main mission. I'd like more diversity, more options in how the story progresses. To have an end goal would be nice, too.
You can use your own art for the characters! And I have a lot of character art. Oh, and the game is pretty fun too.

Тут никакие бои, слабый дизайн (речь не о картинке) локаций, даже сюжетных, минимум взаимосвязи между снаряжением/локацией/боевкой/хакингом, и самое главное, все монотоннее чем моя работа.

I love dungeon crawlers, turn based combat and RPGs in general so I was certain StarCrawlers would be my jam. It makes a decent enough first impression but you'll quickly find out you've seen everything there is to see in the first few hours. Combat is woefully simple - your characters learn a very small number of skills and even then can't even equip them all at once. Most encounters will be resolved in the exact same way, bosses included. Procedurally generated dungeons are unfortunately pretty bland with scant items/resources to find (they're also pretty difficult to discern from the environments themselves). Class balance is funky and the game gets pretty repetitive quickly. The U.I. is good and writing is decent enough, it just felt like the game needed a little more time in the oven to expand its systems.
An amazing turn based game but Sci Fi instead of the usual trope of Fantasy. I really enjoyed this game and truly hope the dev finishes the solo 2nd game...As for this one ive put in about 191 hours and it was well worth it.
A cost-efficient turn-based hack-and-slash with a compelling enough game loop to keep you playing for many hours. Comes with an interesting setting and plot and a splat of dialogue and characterization. Will run on a potato. Performs as advertised.
This is a clever little game. It's a mix of old and new features and may not be for everyone. It's a blobber. That's an old-fashioned genre where your whole party moves one tile at a time, turning 90 degrees at a time, with a first-person view. Thus the party is a sort of "blob" of abilities and stats that moves around a square tile map in turn-based mode. The game is a kind of random scenario generator, creating new missions and treasures on the fly. Your crew explores derelict spaceships and such. The backdrop is a somewhat cyberpunk story on a lowlife space station that serves as your home base. You can't explore the station per se, it's just a scene picture with various places to click and access services. There is no voice acting. The writing is not bad. A felt a few times my character personality was a bit forced by the dialogue and would have preferred if the main character never spoke or had text. But that's not a huge deal. The best buyer for this is probably someone who wants endless turn-based party battles in a sci fi setting. I have not gotten that far but have read the randomizer just keeps growing and growing, so you can keep playing the same party as long as you like, after the main story is done. The graphics are fine, not fancy or inspired, but passable. Recommended for what it is.

A seriously underrated dungeon crawler. Combat is tactical with unique characters, story-line is branched and interesting, randomised loot and procedural generation keep things interesting. Really enjoyed my play through of the campaign.

In-game breaking bugs while in combat. For example, open the inventory and then healing a character might result in all the UI to disappear and you are unable to continue fighting nor you can't exit game unless you kill the task on windows.
Combat feels unbalanced once you reach certain levels. Energy damage literally kills your entire party very easily.
Can't believe this game is this old. Graphics are fine, the mechanics shine. Very addicting to go delving into dungeons. Some things could be handled better, but it's extremely enjoyable.

I'll be honest, the game is super intimidating and unintuitive at first and could really use some additional documentation. That being said, once you get a hang of things it's super fun!
You'll set up synergies between you and your team, explore progressively cooler locations and generally just have a great time ♥♥♥♥♥♥♥ over corporations and looting the ♥♥♥♥ out of everything.

I am a 52 yo father, probably one of the oldest people playing StarCrawlers. I am a single father to my Son, who is 14 now. My son found this game at Christmas, so we installed it on his computer and he started playing. By the end of the week he had 24 hours on this game. This was horrible for me, as it was already hard for me to find ways to spend time with my son, as he is always out with his friends or just watching YouTube. So i decided to make a Steam account and get this game to see if I could maybe play alongside him. loaded into the game world and started playing but I was stuck on what you were supposed to do. I asked my Son for help and he helped me. Loved it as it was the best time had spent with my Son since my wife had died. This game has ever since brought me and my son closer again and now we actually spend time together outside the house together as well. This game reminded me that there's fun to be had in everything, and it has brought both me and my Son many happy memories.

Pros- The art is good, both 3d and 2d, that's what drew me into the game.
Cons- The game is buggy. After the tutorial and your first mission, when I went on a bounty (as I love side quests) about five minutes in the audio would loop half second clips. After trying to slog through hearing the same audio effects for ten minutes, I just wanted to leave the mission and hope it fixes itself. The game slowed down substantially after this. And of course I ran into an enemy, and when they clearly were too strong for me I tried to flee, but fleeing only brought me back to the same hallway I ran into them, and as soon as I fled they reattacked me. Fine whatever, game wants me to be more careful/more prepared, just not sure why the flee option would be there if I can't really flee. I died and was brought back to the main menu, not really feeling the game I tried to leave and it almost crashed my computer.
TLDR: Good art, very buggy, not optimized

also, during missions you can choose different factions to help and get different rewards and dialogue and probably other stuff, if you like that type of choice
Cool Dungeon crawler with a bare thread of plot. The hacking feature provides a 2nd dimension of exploration. Great leveling features and character options. A lot went into making this game and it shows.

I purchased StarCrawlers on sale for $1.99 and so far it has given me 96 hours of enjoyment. I've paid for triple A games for so much more than that with less than half the fun.
In those 96 hours, I've had 3 playthroughs all ending in the permadeath of one or all of my characters (challenge + ironmode). In this difficulty setting, when a character dies, you can no longer rehire a new one of the same class. Theoretically, you can end up running out of classes to hire and ultimately foil your chances to finish the game. I never tried rehiring new characters. The loss of a character I leveled and nurtured is sad enough that I called off the playthrough each time and started anew.
It's a first person, grid-movement, RPG dungeon crawler with turn-based combat. I could tell the devs put a lot of thought and love into this project. Your choices on who to work for and go against has a lot of impact in your campaign. I love dungeon crawling, returning to base with nice loot and improving my reputation with various factions which I can cash in for rewards. In between crawling, I can take on "hacking" jobs which is really just another series of turn-based combat.

A "barely recommend" from me, for those who are fans of the genre. The game has a lot of fun systems but as other reviewers have mentioned is EXTREMELY repetitive. If the game had 1/5th the grind it'd be quite enjoyable.
Additionally, there are some mercs that are just flat-out better for your team than others as they have mission options to bypass difficult obstacles. The hacker, for instance, is a must-take unless you really like the hacking mini-game and/or sneaking past security systems and tripwires all the time.

Really wanted to like it but it needs some QOL to really make it shine. Even with fast battles turned on, it still took forever for battles. I made it 11 hours in and had to give up. Love the concept/setting and the graphics are nice just felt way too grindy for my liking.
One of the best dungeon crawlers on the market in my opinion. The teambuilding, puzzles, secrets, and level size are all excellently fun. On top of the traditional elements it also has a very cyberpunk storyline about the various corporate factions, tying into the faction system which lets you gain allies and enemies. My only critique is the hacking minigame, which can be skipped by getting a hacker on your team, which is what I did, and what I suggest.
I would highly suggest this game for someone looking for a dungeon crawler or something that has a sci-fi/cyberpunk feel (spacepunk?).

Not a bad game. All mission based. Modern take on old RPG's where you would move one cell at a time in dungeons then pop into a fight with the sprites right in front of you taking turns on actions.
Good graphics. 3D map, though 1 cell movement. Sound is eh. Character abilities are OK. You get to do a bit of 'hacking' that is just different combat in a non 3D map- though it can change things like unlock doors in the 3D map. Choices do matter, not just factions but if you decide to save someone or not. Offers different difficulty missions, with rewards to match. Old reward codes can be used for elite gear. There are bosses.
Not open world. Can not repeat missions. Only one character per a class. Limited inventory, more so than I like. Random merchant inventory that sells boxes with a random item in them for the better gear, may not even be for the character you want something for, 8 times out of 10 is junk- even though blue quality etc. Work up one faction, other faction hates you- you have to look at a guide just to see if the faction is even useful at all. Can not save in missions, missions can be very long for full completion.
Lots of negatives I listed yet I like this game. There are things I would change. Yet I still like it enough to play it anyways. I value my money at a minimum of 1 hour per 1 dollar spent and I got my moneys worth. I can not say that about all games.

Starcrawlers is a party-based, turn-based RPG, played in a somewhat off-putting, weird sci-fi universe (i'm still not sure if my characters were robots or humans or what). You assume the role of "crawlers", which are basically some kind of space mercenary. You will lead your party on missions to office buildings, mines, and other ships, though truthfully even the meager diversity offered in these choices is rather undifferentiated in function and feel.
You will field missions from a variety of corporations, often against rival corps. The missions you choose to take will correspondingly gain (and lose) you favor with said respective corps. Gain enough favor and each corp may bestow some minor boon upon you. There is always one campaign mission (at a fixed level) and about a half-dozen randomly generated missions to choose from. The randomly generated missions are always of difficulty relative to your party level (i.e. one super easy, one easy, a few normal, one hard, one super hard). The random mission objectives are rather dry, basically find the correct spot on the map and click there or go kill someone. The hand-crafted campaign missions are only slightly better, often featuring puzzles to figure out, though frankly I often found the puzzles unintuitive and tedious.
You may find level-specific gear on these missions (weapon, armor, shield) as well generic accessories for your characters (each char may hold one each of these four items). You may also find credits (i.e. money) and loot (i.e also money, but you must annoying sell it piece by piece first).
You may field up to four crawlers on a mission from a roster of eight of in total. At first hire, the new crawlers will match your team's level. However, crawlers you don't take on missions with you won't gain experience (at least this is what the interweb told me).
You may also find a 'data-jack' on each mission which is it own separate virtual world. There may be some minor benefits to participating in this virtual world, but for the most part its sole purpose seems to be to make you stronger in order to fight in the virtual world, thus enabling you to fight better in the virtual world, where you will get better gear to fight in the virtual ..., well you get it. It is worth noting that to find the core of the virtual world and destroy it, and then loot all of the data nodes typically takes just as long as your given mission.
Each character may learn 18 skills, each of which has three levels. These 18 skills are broken out to 3 families of 6, with each family offering your character specific text-based abilities in-mission (like disabling security systems). These skills are broken into actives and passives. Unfortunately, you may only load your character up with a subset of these active skills, so once you learn all passives and your favorite handful of actives, future level-ups become largely pointless and certainly boring.

[*] The corp system, with its corresponding favors was kind of cool in theory. Unfortunately, most of the missions had you gaining 5 favor with one corp, while losing 5 with another. So you never made any overall progress, rather some liked you while some hated you. Having never played before there is no way to know who to suck up to and who to piss off.
[*] Inventory was large enough and the space in between missions was functional.
[*] Auto-mapping is always appreciated.

Just take normal missions to raise your level, then do the campaign mission when it is at your level. I never even came remotely close to dying. I could try harder missions, but why should I?
[*] The missions are ridiculously repetitive. The scenes are the same. The objectives are the same. The enemies are the same.
[*] Since chars off-mission don't level-up, and leveling up is rather slow, there is no incentive to mix up your team. So you will probably only ever use four out of the eight characters.

[*] Data-jack world was straight up terrible. It was pointless and took forever. I kept participating since I didn't want to fall behind, as the only purpose to data-jacking seems to be to make you better at data-jacking. And the load-screens were unbearable.

Summary: Star-crawlers is basically a game in which you slowly, but constantly, get stronger, but nothing ever changes. Maybe it would be passable if you leveled up faster to get access to new skills sooner or if you were forced to take a hard mission once in awhile. I made it to roughly Level 20 before I quit, though I got bored a fair bit earlier than that. I did enjoy Starcrawlers for a short time, but it quickly became a chore to play. Probably there is potential here with some different design decisions or pacing, but unfortunately I can't recommend as implemented.

I like dungeon dwellers type of games, like the good old Dungeon Hack. This game check so many nostalgic feelings, but with lots of new things in it. Lots of different faction to deal with. Differents characters and techno. Just a minus thing is that you can't have the same class twice.

An okay dungeon crawler game with a nice universe and a branching story, but the combat and the grind get increasingly boring with very little payoff, which brings down the strengths of the game with it.
You'll usually be doing the exact same thing you were doing since the tutorial, which is performing the same loop of skills over and over again with every party member. This is regardless of whether you're fighting a simple security guard, or a nether worm monster from hell. Important enemies are always immune to the more gimmicky status effects, so you want your main skill loop to always be damage, damage, and more damage.
You spend most of the game grinding for gear that suits your level, which levels you up, so you repeat the process until max level... and then the available missions scale to your level, making the grind feel meaningless. Even the most interesting part of character growth, the skill system, stops getting better at a certain point due to max active skill count of 6-- which is why the optimal builds seem to be 'pick the best active skills per class + get every passives', and the Steam Guides from veterans seem to all be on the same page.
The hacking portion of the game, which basically puts you in a single character with more skill options, feels like how it should've been for the rest of the game: very flexible skill variations, fast pace, and more importance to damage types. The story missions have enemies that should've been common across the board: enemies with specific gimmicks beyond just doing damage and status effects. There are definitely many good parts of the game, but it's been so padded out to hell by the procedurally generated dungeons with the exact same combat every time, it really kills my overall view on this game.
Awesome music though. That alone isn't tarnished by the negatives.
